Information, Knowledge, And The Dissemination Of...
Information, and the dissemination thereof, is based on usefulness. It is the foundation upon which we
as humans derive knowledge and understanding from to eventually communicate across platforms and
cultures. As it continues to permeate society, the formation, understanding and transmission of
information becomes heavily specified and relative to the type of information collected, who it is
useful to and how it will be used to generate widespread understanding. This is evidenced in how
people seek and use information in their modern daily lives. A widely accepted model of this process
comprises itself of the following components: data, information, knowledge, understanding and
wisdom to an extent and the synthesis of these components is foundational to understanding how
information is relative and consumed in its specificity today (Ackoff, 1989). Using differing
arguments to examine differing perspectives, I will seek to establish the place of information within
this hierarchy and how it applies to how we establish the use of information as it persists as a
standalone concept in today s society. When people determine the usefulness of data to transform it
into information and therefore understanding, it is essential to establish a mode by which this occurs.
One attempt to do this is evidenced in Russell Ackoff s (1989) article, From Data to Wisdom . As a
general argument, Ackoff (1989) seeks to qualify a model consisting of: data, information, knowledge,
understanding

Every Man In This Village Is A Liar
Compromise is often needed to resolve conflict.
The results of conflict can be absolutely horrendous as depicted in the media everyday, but
disagreement is not generically a negative experience. Compromise between opposing parties is
needed to resolve conflict, as Wayne Dyer espoused Conflict cannot survive without your participation
this presents a relevant adage toward resolving conflict. Conflict can show itself in an abundance of
different ways, I believe that conflict shows itself as an ever burning fire that will lurk around
disagreements to fuel itself into becoming a feral a brute that seeks to harm. The protagonists in the
texts Every Man In This Village Is a Liar and the Life of Galileo all showed compromise to avoid
conflicting disputes. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
But even Stack had to show compromise when faced with conflict, whether she should help women
and play with death, or stay quite and live to see the long term benefits. Other compromises such as
when Brecht and Galileo fought conscience wars which pervaded their everyday lives. Martin Luther
King, I have a dream and Mahatma Gandhi You must be the change you want to see in the world, both
sacrificed their lives to do the greater good. Galileo on the other hand was prepared to recant his
theory s to stay alive, to avoid execution and keep researching. All of these people displayed altruistic
qualities, King and Gandhi died following their beliefs, while Stack and Galileo both compromised
and managed to stay alive to see the long term

Destino And See You Again
Hitting the pain away or letting a person be free is a way to summarize the endings of Destino and See
You Again . The man in Destino picks up a ball of what used to be the ballerina s head and hits it into
the distance. The ball/head is used to symbolize the woman at the beginning of the short film. Letting
her go by hitting the ball away is the equivalent of the part of the song describing how to carry on after
a person is gone. Strength is needed to move on with life and strength is needed to hit a baseball far
away. The baseball player symbolizes the man on the pyramid, reaching for the head at the bottom of
the pyramid. He is also seen reaching for the clock, which can be a way of asking for more time with
the face at the bottom. The

Emotions, The Ability And The Trait Based Perspectives
There are two perspectives in the study of emotions, the ability and the trait based perspectives. The
ability based perspective views emotions as a skill/tool that can be learned through social interaction.
The trait based perspective is concerned more with personalities, specifically how the different
personalities adapt to personal and social implementation (Salovey, 1990). In the past most researchers
of interpersonal communication have look at emotions within our social relationships using the trait
perspective. In recent studies though, some researchers have began to look at emotions within social
interactions using the ability perspective.
Researchers have proposed that there are multiple types of intelligence. One type of intelligence is
social intelligence. Initially social intelligence was very broad, being defined as the ability to
understand and manage people. With further research, several subsets were added to this premise. The
subset that is relative to this present research is, emotional intelligence. Emotional intelligence is
define as, the recognition and use of one s own and others emotional states to solve problems and
regulate behavior, (Salovey, 1990, p.188). Emotional Intelligence (EI) was conceptualized in the field
of organizational communication.
Within work environments people develop ongoing relationships between themselves and their
colleagues, they become dependent on each other to achieve shared goals, and have to be aware of
how their

Beyond Good And Evil By Joshua Lohin
Art is a form of communication. Art is a form of language. The language of art can be elaborated in a
multitude of ways, as well. These methods include the content, process, or themes of the artwork. The
pieces Who Tells the Truth? and Beyond Good and Evil by Joshua Lohin, which I found in the
University Gallery, Fulton Hall 109, are prime examples of art being conveyed as a language through
their content.
Firstly, the artwork Who Tells the Truth? by Joshua Lohin, is a digital print, depicting a woman
standing with what appears to be an opaque veil over her head. The female figure s body is turned
slightly away from the viewer, while her head is facing the viewer. The figure stands in an ostensibly
grainy photograph with the words ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This piece illustrates two faces, one smiling and the other frowning, accompanied by words placed
around the print in a seemingly random order. The two faces are placed in the center of the print, while
the words, Beyond, Good, and, and Evil, are positioned around the edges of the print. Beyond is
printed horizontally, and Good is printed vertically with the base of the word being faced toward the
right end of the print. And is printed on the bottom left corner of the print, with the left end of the print
as the base, and Evil is printed in the same manner as Beyond in the bottom right side of the print.
Located around the faces in the center are smaller printed words being, originality, danger,
imagination, and self assertion. I believe that perhaps the content in this print could be insinuating
human demeanors as well. The smiling and frowning faces in the center are associated with the human
expressions of smiling and frowning. Additionally, the words that are positioned around the faces
describe human qualities. This could also be illustrated by the saying, Smiling faces tell lies. The
quote tells that individuals can obscure their true emotions and feelings with their facial expressions.
This piece appears to be much more simple than the previous one, however many similarities and
differences between the two can be

Effective Teachers Use a Variety of Educational Philosophies
Effective Teachers Use a Variety of Educational Philosophies
Being a school teacher is something I have wanted to do since I was a very young child. I believe
education should be a part of everyone s life because it helps students to develop a sense of creativity,
a sense of reasoning, and a sense of respect. There are many different philosophies used in the
classroom ranging from social reconstructionism to essentialism. My philosophy on education is a
combination of my ideas and beliefs. I have an eclectic view of the philosophies and will not apply
just one philosophy in my teaching. I believe an effective teacher uses a variety of educational
philosophies in the classroom.
During the late 1910 s, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Along with discipline in progressivism, I also agree with the teaching style. I believe it is important
for a teacher to assist learning rather than guide it. Children must learn to think critically, to problem
solve, and to make decisions on their own. I believe cooperative learning groups are the best way to
accomplish this goal. Working with peers allows students more exposure rather than keeping their
ideas to themselves.
In addition to progressivism, I agree with the ideas of social recontructionism. I think it is important
for students to be motivated and with this philosophy children are encourages to study his or her own
culture and to emphasize on social issues. Children of today will be the adults of tomorrow, so I think
they should understand community problems. I do not agree with putting them in the middle of society
s problems, but not leaving them in the dark either.
Along with discipline, teaching styles, and motivation being important, there is also classroom
management. Classroom management may be the most valuable element to teaching today. If you do
not have control of your classroom, you will not be an effective teacher. I believe students respect
teachers who are organized and have control. The children know what to expect and know what is
expected of them; it makes things run smoothly.
The classroom will be the place of learning, so it must accommodate the

Ethical Ethics Of An Ethical Corporation Is Not An Oxymoron
An ethical corporation is not an oxymoron. History is littered with tales of deceit and corruption.
Human conduct towards ethics in today s workplace is an important issue; recent headlines show
consequences of unethical behavior on both companies and employees. Contained within the basic
code of ethics in the workplace are words like, trustworthiness, respect, responsibility, fairness,
(Chatov, 1980).
Consider questions like, is it ethical to take office supplies from work for home use, or is it ethical to
use company time for personal business? What is ethical behavior? The meaning of a code ethics in
the workplace for most; is to conform to accepted basic standards ethical conduct and especially
professional conduct when dealing with data, e. g. scientific research, accurate statistics. In other
words, ethics is putting principles into actions and consistency between what we say we value and our
actions, as a matter of integrity.
An action is not proper just because you can get away with it like, an executive having an affair with
another co worker, or watching videos of funny cats, when you should be doing monthly reports on
sales. Stealing and lying are unacceptable conduct in the workplace, as they are anywhere else. There
is a world of difference between what you have the right to do and what is right to do. A basic
workplace ethical code comes from the desire to benefit society and professions as a whole (Calderon,
2012).

How Marketers And Marketers Influence The Creation Of The...
In a world of consumerism, children represent a giant portion of an important demographic to
marketers because of their purchasing power. They greatly influence their parents buying decisions
and are the consumers of the future. Since children have this advantage, advertisers know that they
should be a main target. Advertising was created to influence the creation of the consumer. This
method became a revolutionary development. The advertisers goal was to cater to the consumers
wants and desires. Although the advertisers used what they knew from the consumer to shape their
wants to create in commodities. Marketers and advertisers use several tactics such as promotion,
positioning, brand voice, demographic segmentation, narrowcasting, ... Show more content on

Marketers use the immense emotional attachment children have to their advantage. Marketers are well
aware of the children s favorites, they use that knowledge to keep generating money by catering the
products to the children s interests. This tactic becomes very dishonest. It is marketing products by
using social aspect that can affect one s behavior rather than highlighting the products actual features.
It encourages buyers to purchase products for their personal gain, instead of the actual use of the
product. For example, when a child watches Barney and Friends it does not insinuate that this child is
more intelligent than a child who does not watch it. Although, since children start watching these
kinds of shows at such a young age, it can damage their attention span causing it to not be as attentive
as one who does not partake in watching shows that are solely for entertainment. Going on, a major
issue between advertised brand names and unadvertised brand names starts to create a structural issue
that does not just stay within children it even extends to the older buyers. It is perceived that
advertised brand names are more effective than generic brands. To be effective in the United States as
a consumer, a child should be able to differentiate the real benefits of a product, rather than just
focusing on the aesthetic of a

Green And Social Responsibility For Global Warming
Nowadays, people are becoming increasingly aware of environmental protection. Going green is a
term used to refer to a series of process aimed at embracing an environmental and ecologically
friendly lifestyle while at the same time adhering to legal and social norms aimed at practicing the
environments and natural resources. The adoption of gen strategies by governments and most industry
players is informed by the adverse effects of climate change that continue to increase the costs of
production while at the same time accelerating environmental degradation. Currently, the world has
put more emphasis on going green and embracing socially responsible approaches. The rising costs of
climate change and the debilitating effects of global warming have been the main reasons for the
vibrant state of going green and socially responsibility conventions in the world. Startling statics about
climate change have informed the need to embrace sustainable approaches in business and governance
as a way of mitigation. To justify the vibrant state of going green and social responsibility in the world
today, one has to revisit the grim statics associate with global warming (Stewart, 2014). Studies have
revealed that at least 45 percent of the world s population is adversely affected by climate change. The
effects of this global phenomenon are evenly distributed across all the continents of the world. From
Australia to Texas, droughts are systematically becoming common environmental phenomena.

Geraldine Brooks s Reading The Secret Chord A Novel
The Secret Chord Reading The Secret Chord A Novel by Geraldine Brooks was like reading about the
biblical character King David for the first time. Author Ms. Brooks brought King David s character to
life. As I read, I hardly realized that the novel is over five hundred pages. Brooks carefully built upon
the biblical story of David. What I appreciate is that Brooks did not omit information rather she
expanded on the facts colorfully and creatively. Some of the expansion is based on theory. However,
the majority of the story aligns with biblical and historical chronology. For example, the story expands
on David s childhood relationship with his paternal and maternal caregivers.
The story interestingly describes King David as a talented musician among his many talents. King
David s musical ability had the power to soothe the savage, unite his offspring, and bring healing and
unity to two split nations. David s instrument of choice was a harp, that was a part of his existence.
Geraldine enlightens us to how beautifully David played the harp; she says if the harp where a loom
the notes he drew from it a bright thread forming a splendid pattern . . . He played this way often, even
interrupting meetings with his generals . . . He said that music its order and precision helped him find
the patterns in things the way through the confusion of events and opinions to the direction to order,
and beyond inspiration (Brooks 40).The text even says you could read his mind through his

The Same Canadian Laws For Sex Work
The existing Canadian laws for sex work have recently undergone a change with the Conservative
government s new implementation of a bill to effectively decriminalize the existence of brothels and
indoor prostitution while illegalizing the advertisement of said service and/or the purchase of said
service.
This new law was originally created as a response to a Supreme Court of Canada ruling stating that
certain sections of the Criminal Code were unconstitutional in the sense that they were being used in a
way to make sex work more dangerous. Those in opposition of the new law state that it does nothing

and film) and will serve to conclude as to why this is the case.
Canadian T.V. Serials
Now sex workers are commonly represented in the fictional universes created in Canadian T.V. and
film as women who are down on their luck and who have found their way into the trade because they
had to. Canadian T.V. has traditionally not incorporated prostitution into very many of our programs
just due to the sheer nature of why Canadian T.V. is produced.
CBC, Rogers, and Bell CTV effectively own all national Canadian T.V. channels. The entertainment
based fictional television programs they produce generally appeal to the widest audience possible.
Because of that, lewd or profane subjects and/or language are generally not included in these
presentations.
It is rare to see an exploration of prostitution in any sort of realistic way in Canadian television
however that doesn t mean they aren t incorporated into programs now and again. When they are
however, they are generally played up cute and in a way where the nature of their trade isn t explicitly
defined but rather merely implied.
One example of this is evident in a recent episode of CBC s Murdoch Mysteries where he enters a
brothel to seek information on a train robbing duo suspected to be Butch Cassidy and the Sundance
Kid. The ladies here hint and flirt with the detective present but nothing more is hinted at beyond this.
This isn t the first time that the title character, Detective William Murdoch, has come into

Analysis Of The 1680 Pueblo Revolt By Andrew Knaut
By August 1680, the stage had been set. The movement s leaders had chose August 12 as the date on
which the revolt would take place (169). The 1680 Pueblo Revolt was the culmination of decades of
exploitation and mistreatment of the Pueblo peoples of New Mexico at the hands of their Spanish
overlords. The Cortes and Coronados set off on expeditions to New Mexico because of the gold laden
settlements always rumored to lie just beyond the horizon (23). Andrew Knaut provides an in depth

The Man Called Peter Brook
On March 21st, 1925, in London, England, a man named Peter Brook was born. He was the, younger
son of two Russian scientists who came to Britain in 1914 as refugees, and set up a successful
pharmaceuticals company, whose bestselling product was a laxative called Brooklax . Peter s older
brother became a psychiatrist , (Peter Brook).Ever since Brook was a little kid, he had a huge interest
in film making. He went to school at Magdalen College of Oxford to read English and Modern
Languages. Brook s first job after graduation was as a writer/director with the Crown Film Unit.
Although theatre directing was his second career choice, he was soon employed and early classical
productions at the Birmingham Repertory Theatre were followed by Shakespeare in London and
Stratford, (Peter Brook).
Mr. Brook is known for directing theatrical productions, but he didn t start off doing live
entertainment. His first completed project was a movie that he did as an undergraduate student at
Magdalen College Oxford. He made his first film on a budget of £250, using redundant sets and some
fledgling actors from among his friends and classmates an early indication of his confidence and his
ability to attract casts and funding,(Peter Brook). According to the New York Times, Brook directed an
amateur adaptation of Laurence Sterne s eighteenth century novel A Sentimental Journey (1943).
From that moment on, little did he know that his career in the theatre world would take off.

within an accredited nursing program to study foundational nursing curricula. During this time, a
professional nursing student is able to take knowledge learned within a classroom and begin to apply

Maximilien Robespierre, Leader of the French Revolution
Europe cannot conceive of life without Kings and nobles; and we cannot conceive of it with them.
Europe is lavishing her blood to preserve her chains, whereas we are lavishing ours to destroy them
(Maximilien Robespierre). For centuries upon centuries, the monarchal system had dominated
European life. The very nature of this method of rule incited rebellious feelings, as a definite
imbalance of power was present. Understandably, people under this system had risen against authority.
The glorious nation of France was no exception. The eighteenth century brought about a great deal of
economic and social turmoil. By the end of this one hundred year period, rebellion had been talked
about by many citizens for quite some time. However, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The personal rebellions of Maximilien Robespierre took many forms, as did those of the French
Revolution, but no specific act of rebellion is perhaps best remembered by history or best associated
with his hand than the execution of the oppressive Monarchy itself. The main problem in France at the
time of the French Revolution was money management. The monarchy was wasting funds on
exorbitant palaces and individual pleasures. They also invested a ton of money into the American
Revolution, money that they had not yet gotten back. These managerial mishaps of the Monarchy
manifested themselves in such forms as utter and widespread destitution among the people, and
starvation among the least fortunate of the country s inhabitants. In some cases, the repair of the
economy would have been trusted to the ruling classes to fix, but Robespierre, along with many
others, realized that nothing would change unless a change in leadership accompanied it. The feelings
of many were embodied by this conclusion delivered by Robespierre in the National Assembly: It is
with regret that I pronounce a fatal truth: Louis ought to perish rather than a hundred thousand
virtuous citizens; Louis must die that the country may live (Maximilien Robespierre). It so passed that

Ever since I graduated from high school, I look back on my childhood, and I can conclude that my

return results in a company like Canadian Chemical to lose sales. TJ Wood who is the Vice President
of Sales for Canadian Chemical understands the dilemma and is unsure how to better generate sales
for the company. After reviewing the sales representatives, products being sold, selling expenses, and
the income statement it is evident changes need to be made in order to remain relevant as a top seller
in the industry.
An overall problem for the industry is the lack of quality products and customer service as a result of
extremely low prices. Many companies are profiting off cheap products that are produced quickly to
commodity businesses. Being a company that considers itself a very high ranking leader in the
industry, Canadian Chemical has to combat this shift in the industry in order to acquire enough sales
to remain afloat. As the Vice President of Sales, TJ is responsible for overseeing the representatives

Migraine, Medical condition that many people have to deal with. This is how to identify the signs of a
migraine, what a migraine simply is, what happens during a migraine attack, triggers and how to
diagnose it. The cause of a migraine could be many different things. This research paper could help
out a lot pf people who may have not yet experienced a migraine attack. A migraine attack is one of
the hardest illnesses to diagnose but a migraine could also lead to other things more severe.
A migraine? Migraines, severe painful headaches often proceeded or accompanied by sensory warning
signs such as flashes of light, blind spots, tingling in the arms and legs, nausea, vomiting, and
increased sensitivity to light and sound. Migraine headaches result from a combination of blood vessel
enlargement and the release of chemicals from nerve fibers that coil around the blood vessel. This then
causes the sympathetic nervous system to respond with nausea, diarrhea, and vomiting. These
migraine headaches are commonly misdiagnosed as tension type headaches or sinus headaches.
During the headache, an artery enlarges that is located on the outside of the skull just under the skin of
the temple. This causes a release of chemicals that cause inflammation, pain, and further enlargement
of the artery. (http://simple.wikipedia.org/wiki/Migraine)

Brief Description Of Public Policy
Part A: Brief description of public policy
Policy refers to a distinct path of action that is suitable for the pursuit of desired goals within a
particular context, directing the decision making or behavior of an organization or individual. There
are three key elements of policies: problem definition, goals to be achieved, and policy instruments to
address the problem and achieve the goal. The policy process is an activity of balancing different
solutions that address aspects of complex problems: the policymaking is typically described as messy
(CITE). Important components of the policy process include identification of a policy problem along
with framing the problem for solutions (also known as policy formulation), implementation of policy
strategies, and establishing outcomes for evaluation of policy effectiveness.
Policies come from those who have legitimate authority to impose normative guidelines for action
(i.e., elected officials). Formulation of health related policies is complex and depends on a variety of
scientific, economic, social, and political forces. As a result, there is a considerable gap between what
public health research shows is effective and the policies that are enacted and enforced (Brownson,
Chriqui, Stamatakis, 2009).
Non elected officials (i.e., practitioners) are generally required to implement the policy through
programs (i.e., interventions). There are many barriers to effective policy implementation. For
example, insufficient

Character Analysis Of Phoenix Jackson
When Eudora Welty finished her studies, she went back to Jackson, Mississippi, she began her career

through her she explores a theme that transcends ace and region (p. 386). The story depicts an era of

African Americans who fled the South and moved where they could survive and receive a proper

Similarities Between The Matrix And Plato s Allegory Of...
The movie The Matrix follows a character named Neo through his struggle adapting to the truth as
well as to a new form of reality. The plot of the film is closely related to that of Plato s Allegory of the
Cave. The idea of freeing one s mind and soul from illusion is stressed in both the film as well as in
Plato s theory. Neo is trapped in a false reality created by a computer program that took over the
world. The plot certainly contains other conflicts such as good versus evil and reality versus illusion.
In the film, Neo is taken away from the matrix and learns that he is the one to save the humans from

The Truman Show emphasizes the formation of false relationships, the loss of identity and the self
deception that comes with virtual reality. Descartes ideas of seeking knowledge to understand the truth
is widely evident throughout the film. Similarly to Descartes skepticism regarding knowledge derived
from the senses, Truman begins to doubt what he believes as well. After seeing his deceased father, he
becomes uncertain about his existence and the people around him, such as when he begins testing the
people of Seahaven and concludes that there are loose threads and slips of the tongue. Unlike
Descartes, though, Truman does not question every part of his reality like physical aspects, but he,

Truman s idea to abandon his trust in knowledge through the senses as well as his skepticism for his

Traditionalism In The Mayor Of Casterbridge By Thomas Hardy
In his foremost literary work, The Mayor of Casterbridge, Thomas Hardy uses the very inspiration of
Casterbridge s traditions and setting itself paired with its foremost characters, Michael Henchard and
Donald Fafrae, to opine that traditionalism in any sense is an outdated and even self destructive
culture; for this reason, it is the duty of the younger generation to resurrect traditionalistic societies
from collapsing.
Hardy constructs the fictional town of Casterbridge by drawing inspiration from his own hometown,
Dorchester, order to convey that standard, traditionalistic societies such as it are lamentable and ever
collapsing. Dorchester s many prominent and unlovable features, as in many of Hardy s novels, in
fact, are portrayed through direct parallels in Casterbridge s key features and traditions. The skimmity
ride organized by Joshua Jopp exposing Lucetta and her shameful history, for example, is a landmark
of the society that Hardy created and had lived in. Skimmity rides were actually well known
traditionalistic English events; they were carried out in order to express public disdain of sinful marital
actions. Seeing that Hardy claims that he has derived Casterbridge from his memories of Dorchester
as a child, it is likely that Hardy has witnessed something like this before. Such an embarrassment
itself is not something that would ever be considered morally acceptable in an even remotely modern
society, especially considering that, seeing the laughter and

Ethics, Unnatural Laws, By Arthur A. Leff
Part One: Summary In the article Unspeakable Ethics, Unnatural Laws, Arthur A. Leff took an
agnostic approach when determining what morality should be comprised of. He suggested that
humans struggle with desiring to follow a predetermined and unchallengeable set of moral rules, while
at the same time wanting the autonomy to create those rules.
If ethical rules are preordained, they would need to come from a supernatural being that was unruled,
unjudged, and beyond question: God. If God exists, we are created to fit into His system and should
therefore abide by His rules. God dictates the laws of the world through what Leff refers to as
performative utterances . These utterances are essentially His will made into reality via His command.
Performative utterances are the act of God creating the rules that govern the world. He is the only
being who has the capacity to do this without facing the inevitable says who mentality.
This sort of attitude ensues when beings of equal rank differ in their opinions of what is right and what
is wrong, with no overarching authority. It is this problem in particular that leads philosophers to
despair; if there is no God, there is no steady ethical or legal system that can be put into place. There is
nothing more correct or more flawed than anything else. There will never be progress, as you cannot
progress from something you cannot deem to be less suitable. If there is no such higher being, we are
all that is left to decide for

It is a powerful tool and it can be used to either impact, positively or negatively, the attitude and belief

The major difference between persuasion and communication is that persuasion is a conscious effort
made to influence the party, along with the awareness that the persuader has a susceptible mind that
may change. Persuasion needs to have a conclusion and a message. The responses are modified by
symbolic transactions which are linked to the emotions and sentiments of the target. Communication
does not focus on trying to change an individual. It is simply an exchange of information and it can be
verbal or non verbal.
In the business world persuasion is highly crucial and it is critical not only to ensure success but also
to create an environment in which the team can be motivated and be unified. Good persuasion skills
help you to achieve your goals by influencing others. And this is definitely the foundation for success
in any big or small business. The ability to be persuasive requires a trusting and a positive relationship
and to build such relationship requires time, attention and the willingness to give and take. These
skills can be learnt just as easily as any other skill, but the magic is in to know when and how to use
the skill to benefit oneself. Effective persuasion needs a person to keep few important things in. A
good persuader not only has good communication skills but also has empathy, good listening skills,
knows how to build a rapport and win trust. Body language is also important as the

A contradictory standard is a set of two rules which like the definition states the dress code has a set of
two rules; one that applies to girls and one that applies to boys. This allows boys to go to school in
tank tops and shorts but if a girl would do that it would be breaking the dress code. In schools
nowadays, the school doesn t see it that way, they see it as what is a distraction and what is not.
School dress codes have unknowingly set up double standards, creating a separation in the application
of the punishment for [violating] the dress code. She explained how boys whose trousers sag are
simply told to pull your pants up without further repercussion while girls are sent to the office and
forced to call their parents to bring them a change of clothes. (Alvarez). If a boy were to sag their
pants, they would asked to pull them up, now if a girl did something similar they would be called up
to the office and asked to call home for an extra pair of clothes or they would be sent home. See the
contradictory standard here? However, I am not arguing that schools shouldn t have dress codes. I
absolutely believe that they should. However, if a dress code is going to take place, it should not be

M.C. Escher Essay
M.C. Escher occupies a unique spot among the most popular artists of the past century. While his
contemporaries focused on breaking from traditional art and its emphasis on realism and beauty,
Escher found his muse in symmetry and infinity. His attachment to geometric forms made him one of
modernism s most recognizable artists and his work remains as relevant as ever.
Escher s early works are an odd mix of cubism and traditional woodcut. From these beginnings, one
could already note Escher s fondness for repetition and clean shapes. While simple and exploratory,
these works were the signs of a nascent art career.
Beginning in the mid 1930s, Escher s work turned very pointedly to the style we associate with him
today. Some of his most ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Something that recurs references itself. The reflection in a mirror of a mirror is recursive: the reflected
mirror is reflecting its own image and doing so indefinitely. You ve also likely seen the Droste effect
when using camcorders hooked up to a TV or a computer: when the camcorder is looking at the

the same image that it s sending to the screen. The game Portal is a great example of recursion, when
two portals could be opened side by side in a narrow space and looking in either one produced an
infinite series of the same image.
Escher combined recursion and pattern repetition in a unique way. Some of the works featuring this
combination exhibits some complex mathematical and physical ideas, but to the casual viewer the
works are sublime. The swans image above features this sort of combination. Note that the swans are
tiled very precisely, with the same distance from adjacent swans and swans in the next row. Note also
that they are in a closed loop, which is one construct made possible with recursion.
The above image is an example of the Mandelbrot set. The Mandelbrot set, along with other sets, is an
example of a fractal. Fractals are fundamentally based on the idea of infinite recursion. If you zoom in
to a particular spot in the fractal, you ll perhaps see a different arrangement of patterns, but you would
still be able to

Evaluation Research Design Literature
253 Chapter 6 Evaluation Research Design: Literature Reviews Synthesis Frequently a research
question or hypothesis can be answered through secondary research, i.e., a literature review or
synthesis. Both strategies requires the researcher to mine existing data sources; ―pull out‖ relevant
data or information; summarize it; logically analyze and/or statistically treat it; and report results. In
many instances, the issue, problem, question, etc. which prompted the idea for an evaluation study is
resolved or answered by studying and reporting previous research reports in the literature or
synthesizing, either logically, statistically, or both, data drawn from existing databases. In program
evaluation, it is often necessary to describe or ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
51). The meta analytical approach advocated by Glass (1976) includes the aggregation of relevant
findings from empirical studies as summarized by the effect size, as well as an analysis of relevant
variables which may operate on the dependent and/or independent variables of each empirical study
included in the analysis. Suri describes advantages of the meta analytic approach over the traditional
narrative review; these include: (1) identification of effects, (2) analysis of operating moderating
variables, (3) an explicit explanation and rationale for study inclusion criteria, and (4) the
methodological flexibility to include a large number of empirical studies. Suri reports that criticisms
include a tendency to over generalize findings, the potential to include poorly designed empirical
studies, overreliance on published juried research, and ignoring studies where effect size isn t
computed. D. Finally, Suri (2000) examines Slavin s (1986) best evidence synthesis. 1. Slavin (1986)
asserts that best evidence synthesis, is designed to draw on the strengths of each approach [traditional
reviews and meta analysis] and to avoid the pitfalls and characteristics of each‖ (pp. 5 6). Slavin goes
on to explain that best evidence synthesis includes the application of rational, systematic methods of
selecting studies to be included and use of effect size

  • 2. Information, Knowledge, And The Dissemination Of... Information, and the dissemination thereof, is based on usefulness. It is the foundation upon which we as humans derive knowledge and understanding from to eventually communicate across platforms and cultures. As it continues to permeate society, the formation, understanding and transmission of information becomes heavily specified and relative to the type of information collected, who it is useful to and how it will be used to generate widespread understanding. This is evidenced in how people seek and use information in their modern daily lives. A widely accepted model of this process comprises itself of the following components: data, information, knowledge, understanding and wisdom to an extent and the synthesis of these components is foundational to understanding how information is relative and consumed in its specificity today (Ackoff, 1989). Using differing arguments to examine differing perspectives, I will seek to establish the place of information within this hierarchy and how it applies to how we establish the use of information as it persists as a standalone concept in today s society. When people determine the usefulness of data to transform it into information and therefore understanding, it is essential to establish a mode by which this occurs. One attempt to do this is evidenced in Russell Ackoff s (1989) article, From Data to Wisdom . As a general argument, Ackoff (1989) seeks to qualify a model consisting of: data, information, knowledge, understanding ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Every Man In This Village Is A Liar Compromise is often needed to resolve conflict. The results of conflict can be absolutely horrendous as depicted in the media everyday, but disagreement is not generically a negative experience. Compromise between opposing parties is needed to resolve conflict, as Wayne Dyer espoused Conflict cannot survive without your participation this presents a relevant adage toward resolving conflict. Conflict can show itself in an abundance of different ways, I believe that conflict shows itself as an ever burning fire that will lurk around disagreements to fuel itself into becoming a feral a brute that seeks to harm. The protagonists in the texts Every Man In This Village Is a Liar and the Life of Galileo all showed compromise to avoid conflicting disputes. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... But even Stack had to show compromise when faced with conflict, whether she should help women and play with death, or stay quite and live to see the long term benefits. Other compromises such as when Brecht and Galileo fought conscience wars which pervaded their everyday lives. Martin Luther King, I have a dream and Mahatma Gandhi You must be the change you want to see in the world, both sacrificed their lives to do the greater good. Galileo on the other hand was prepared to recant his theory s to stay alive, to avoid execution and keep researching. All of these people displayed altruistic qualities, King and Gandhi died following their beliefs, while Stack and Galileo both compromised and managed to stay alive to see the long term ... • 4. Destino And See You Again Hitting the pain away or letting a person be free is a way to summarize the endings of Destino and See You Again . The man in Destino picks up a ball of what used to be the ballerina s head and hits it into the distance. The ball/head is used to symbolize the woman at the beginning of the short film. Letting her go by hitting the ball away is the equivalent of the part of the song describing how to carry on after a person is gone. Strength is needed to move on with life and strength is needed to hit a baseball far away. The baseball player symbolizes the man on the pyramid, reaching for the head at the bottom of the pyramid. He is also seen reaching for the clock, which can be a way of asking for more time with the face at the bottom. The ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Emotions, The Ability And The Trait Based Perspectives There are two perspectives in the study of emotions, the ability and the trait based perspectives. The ability based perspective views emotions as a skill/tool that can be learned through social interaction. The trait based perspective is concerned more with personalities, specifically how the different personalities adapt to personal and social implementation (Salovey, 1990). In the past most researchers of interpersonal communication have look at emotions within our social relationships using the trait perspective. In recent studies though, some researchers have began to look at emotions within social interactions using the ability perspective. Researchers have proposed that there are multiple types of intelligence. One type of intelligence is social intelligence. Initially social intelligence was very broad, being defined as the ability to understand and manage people. With further research, several subsets were added to this premise. The subset that is relative to this present research is, emotional intelligence. Emotional intelligence is define as, the recognition and use of one s own and others emotional states to solve problems and regulate behavior, (Salovey, 1990, p.188). Emotional Intelligence (EI) was conceptualized in the field of organizational communication. Within work environments people develop ongoing relationships between themselves and their colleagues, they become dependent on each other to achieve shared goals, and have to be aware of how their ... • 6. Beyond Good And Evil By Joshua Lohin Art is a form of communication. Art is a form of language. The language of art can be elaborated in a multitude of ways, as well. These methods include the content, process, or themes of the artwork. The pieces Who Tells the Truth? and Beyond Good and Evil by Joshua Lohin, which I found in the University Gallery, Fulton Hall 109, are prime examples of art being conveyed as a language through their content. Firstly, the artwork Who Tells the Truth? by Joshua Lohin, is a digital print, depicting a woman standing with what appears to be an opaque veil over her head. The female figure s body is turned slightly away from the viewer, while her head is facing the viewer. The figure stands in an ostensibly grainy photograph with the words ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This piece illustrates two faces, one smiling and the other frowning, accompanied by words placed around the print in a seemingly random order. The two faces are placed in the center of the print, while the words, Beyond, Good, and, and Evil, are positioned around the edges of the print. Beyond is printed horizontally, and Good is printed vertically with the base of the word being faced toward the right end of the print. And is printed on the bottom left corner of the print, with the left end of the print as the base, and Evil is printed in the same manner as Beyond in the bottom right side of the print. Located around the faces in the center are smaller printed words being, originality, danger, imagination, and self assertion. I believe that perhaps the content in this print could be insinuating human demeanors as well. The smiling and frowning faces in the center are associated with the human expressions of smiling and frowning. Additionally, the words that are positioned around the faces describe human qualities. Effective Teachers Use a Variety of Educational Philosophies Effective Teachers Use a Variety of Educational Philosophies Being a school teacher is something I have wanted to do since I was a very young child. I believe education should be a part of everyone s life because it helps students to develop a sense of creativity, a sense of reasoning, and a sense of respect. There are many different philosophies used in the classroom ranging from social reconstructionism to essentialism. My philosophy on education is a combination of my ideas and beliefs. I have an eclectic view of the philosophies and will not apply just one philosophy in my teaching. I believe an effective teacher uses a variety of educational philosophies in the classroom. I believe it is important for a teacher to assist learning rather than guide it. Children must learn to think critically, to problem solve, and to make decisions on their own. I believe cooperative learning groups are the best way to accomplish this goal. Working with peers allows students more exposure rather than keeping their ideas to themselves. In addition to progressivism, I agree with the ideas of social recontructionism. I think it is important for students to be motivated and with this philosophy children are encourages to study his or her own culture and to emphasize on social issues. Children of today will be the adults of tomorrow, so I think they should understand community problems. I do not agree with putting them in the middle of society s problems, but not leaving them in the dark either. Along with discipline, teaching styles, and motivation being important, there is also classroom management. Classroom management may be the most valuable element to teaching today. If you do not have control of your classroom, you will not be an effective teacher. I believe students respect teachers who are organized and have control. • 9. Ethical Ethics Of An Ethical Corporation Is Not An Oxymoron An ethical corporation is not an oxymoron. History is littered with tales of deceit and corruption. Human conduct towards ethics in today s workplace is an important issue; recent headlines show consequences of unethical behavior on both companies and employees. Contained within the basic code of ethics in the workplace are words like, trustworthiness, respect, responsibility, fairness, (Chatov, 1980). Consider questions like, is it ethical to take office supplies from work for home use, or is it ethical to use company time for personal business? What is ethical behavior? The meaning of a code ethics in the workplace for most; is to conform to accepted basic standards ethical conduct and especially professional conduct when dealing with data, e. g. scientific research, accurate statistics. In other words, ethics is putting principles into actions and consistency between what we say we value and our actions, as a matter of integrity. An action is not proper just because you can get away with it like, an executive having an affair with another co worker, or watching videos of funny cats, when you should be doing monthly reports on sales. Stealing and lying are unacceptable conduct in the workplace, as they are anywhere else. There is a world of difference between what you have the right to do and what is right to do. A basic workplace ethical code comes from the desire to benefit society and professions as a whole (Calderon, 2012). This paper proceeds as follows. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In a world of consumerism, children represent a giant portion of an important demographic to marketers because of their purchasing power. They greatly influence their parents buying decisions and are the consumers of the future. Since children have this advantage, advertisers know that they should be a main target. Advertising was created to influence the creation of the consumer. This method became a revolutionary development. The advertisers goal was to cater to the consumers wants and desires. Marketers use the immense emotional attachment children have to their advantage. Marketers are well aware of the children s favorites, they use that knowledge to keep generating money by catering the products to the children s interests. This tactic becomes very dishonest. It is marketing products by using social aspect that can affect one s behavior rather than highlighting the products actual features. It encourages buyers to purchase products for their personal gain, instead of the actual use of the product. For example, when a child watches Barney and Friends it does not insinuate that this child is more intelligent than a child who does not watch it. Although, since children start watching these kinds of shows at such a young age, it can damage their attention span causing it to not be as attentive as one who does not partake in watching shows that are solely for entertainment. Going on, a major issue between advertised brand names and unadvertised brand names starts to create a structural issue that does not just stay within children it even extends to the older buyers. It is perceived that advertised brand names are more effective than generic brands. Going green is a term used to refer to a series of process aimed at embracing an environmental and ecologically friendly lifestyle while at the same time adhering to legal and social norms aimed at practicing the environments and natural resources. The adoption of gen strategies by governments and most industry players is informed by the adverse effects of climate change that continue to increase the costs of production while at the same time accelerating environmental degradation. Currently, the world has put more emphasis on going green and embracing socially responsible approaches. The rising costs of climate change and the debilitating effects of global warming have been the main reasons for the vibrant state of going green and socially responsibility conventions in the world. Startling statics about climate change have informed the need to embrace sustainable approaches in business and governance as a way of mitigation. To justify the vibrant state of going green and social responsibility in the world today, one has to revisit the grim statics associate with global warming (Stewart, 2014). Studies have revealed that at least 45 percent of the world s population is adversely affected by climate change. The effects of this global phenomenon are evenly distributed across all the continents of the world. From Australia to Texas, droughts are systematically becoming common environmental phenomena. ... Geraldine Brooks s Reading The Secret Chord A Novel The Secret Chord Reading The Secret Chord A Novel by Geraldine Brooks was like reading about the biblical character King David for the first time. Author Ms. Brooks brought King David s character to life. As I read, I hardly realized that the novel is over five hundred pages. Brooks carefully built upon the biblical story of David. What I appreciate is that Brooks did not omit information rather she expanded on the facts colorfully and creatively. Some of the expansion is based on theory. However, the majority of the story aligns with biblical and historical chronology. For example, the story expands on David s childhood relationship with his paternal and maternal caregivers. The story interestingly describes King David as a talented musician among his many talents. King David s musical ability had the power to soothe the savage, unite his offspring, and bring healing and unity to two split nations. David s instrument of choice was a harp, that was a part of his existence. Geraldine enlightens us to how beautifully David played the harp; she says if the harp where a loom the notes he drew from it a bright thread forming a splendid pattern . . . He played this way often, even interrupting meetings with his generals . . . He said that music its order and precision helped him find the patterns in things the way through the confusion of events and opinions to the direction to order, and beyond inspiration (Brooks 40).The text even says you could read his mind through his ... Canadian T.V. has traditionally not incorporated prostitution into very many of our programs just due to the sheer nature of why Canadian T.V. is produced. CBC, Rogers, and Bell CTV effectively own all national Canadian T.V. channels. The entertainment based fictional television programs they produce generally appeal to the widest audience possible. Because of that, lewd or profane subjects and/or language are generally not included in these presentations. It is rare to see an exploration of prostitution in any sort of realistic way in Canadian television however that doesn t mean they aren t incorporated into programs now and again. When they are however, they are generally played up cute and in a way where the nature of their trade isn t explicitly defined but rather merely implied. They also invested a ton of money into the American Revolution, money that they had not yet gotten back. These managerial mishaps of the Monarchy manifested themselves in such forms as utter and widespread destitution among the people, and starvation among the least fortunate of the country s inhabitants. In some cases, the repair of the economy would have been trusted to the ruling classes to fix, but Robespierre, along with many others, realized that nothing would change unless a change in leadership accompanied it. The cause of a migraine could be many different things. This research paper could help out a lot pf people who may have not yet experienced a migraine attack. A migraine attack is one of the hardest illnesses to diagnose but a migraine could also lead to other things more severe. A migraine? Migraines, severe painful headaches often proceeded or accompanied by sensory warning signs such as flashes of light, blind spots, tingling in the arms and legs, nausea, vomiting, and increased sensitivity to light and sound. Migraine headaches result from a combination of blood vessel enlargement and the release of chemicals from nerve fibers that coil around the blood vessel. This then causes the sympathetic nervous system to respond with nausea, diarrhea, and vomiting. These migraine headaches are commonly misdiagnosed as tension type headaches or sinus headaches. During the headache, an artery enlarges that is located on the outside of the skull just under the skin of the temple. This causes a release of chemicals that cause inflammation, pain, and further enlargement of the artery. (http://simple.wikipedia.org/wiki/Migraine) What triggers a migraine? • 29. Brief Description Of Public Policy Part A: Brief description of public policy Policy refers to a distinct path of action that is suitable for the pursuit of desired goals within a particular context, directing the decision making or behavior of an organization or individual. There are three key elements of policies: problem definition, goals to be achieved, and policy instruments to address the problem and achieve the goal. The policy process is an activity of balancing different solutions that address aspects of complex problems: the policymaking is typically described as messy (CITE). Important components of the policy process include identification of a policy problem along with framing the problem for solutions (also known as policy formulation), implementation of policy strategies, and establishing outcomes for evaluation of policy effectiveness. Policies come from those who have legitimate authority to impose normative guidelines for action (i.e., elected officials). Formulation of health related policies is complex and depends on a variety of scientific, economic, social, and political forces. As a result, there is a considerable gap between what public health research shows is effective and the policies that are enacted and enforced (Brownson, Chriqui, Stamatakis, 2009). Non elected officials (i.e., practitioners) are generally required to implement the policy through programs (i.e., interventions). There are many barriers to effective policy implementation. For example, insufficient ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 35. Traditionalism In The Mayor Of Casterbridge By Thomas Hardy In his foremost literary work, The Mayor of Casterbridge, Thomas Hardy uses the very inspiration of Casterbridge s traditions and setting itself paired with its foremost characters, Michael Henchard and Donald Fafrae, to opine that traditionalism in any sense is an outdated and even self destructive culture; for this reason, it is the duty of the younger generation to resurrect traditionalistic societies from collapsing. Hardy constructs the fictional town of Casterbridge by drawing inspiration from his own hometown, Dorchester, order to convey that standard, traditionalistic societies such as it are lamentable and ever collapsing. Dorchester s many prominent and unlovable features, as in many of Hardy s novels, in fact, are portrayed through direct parallels in Casterbridge s key features and traditions. The skimmity ride organized by Joshua Jopp exposing Lucetta and her shameful history, for example, is a landmark of the society that Hardy created and had lived in. Skimmity rides were actually well known traditionalistic English events; they were carried out in order to express public disdain of sinful marital actions. Seeing that Hardy claims that he has derived Casterbridge from his memories of Dorchester as a child, it is likely that Hardy has witnessed something like this before. Such an embarrassment itself is not something that would ever be considered morally acceptable in an even remotely modern society, especially considering that, seeing the laughter and ... • 36. Ethics, Unnatural Laws, By Arthur A. Leff Part One: Summary In the article Unspeakable Ethics, Unnatural Laws, Arthur A. Leff took an agnostic approach when determining what morality should be comprised of. He suggested that humans struggle with desiring to follow a predetermined and unchallengeable set of moral rules, while at the same time wanting the autonomy to create those rules. If ethical rules are preordained, they would need to come from a supernatural being that was unruled, unjudged, and beyond question: God. If God exists, we are created to fit into His system and should therefore abide by His rules. God dictates the laws of the world through what Leff refers to as performative utterances . These utterances are essentially His will made into reality via His command. Performative utterances are the act of God creating the rules that govern the world. He is the only being who has the capacity to do this without facing the inevitable says who mentality. This sort of attitude ensues when beings of equal rank differ in their opinions of what is right and what is wrong, with no overarching authority. It is this problem in particular that leads philosophers to despair; if there is no God, there is no steady ethical or legal system that can be put into place. There is nothing more correct or more flawed than anything else. There will never be progress, as you cannot progress from something you cannot deem to be less suitable. Communication does not focus on trying to change an individual. It is simply an exchange of information and it can be verbal or non verbal. In schools nowadays, the school doesn t see it that way, they see it as what is a distraction and what is not. Escher s early works are an odd mix of cubism and traditional woodcut. From these beginnings, one could already note Escher s fondness for repetition and clean shapes.
