Organizational Change Essay
Crafting an essay on the subject of organizational change is no simple task. This topic
encompasses a wide array of concepts, theories, and practical considerations, making it a
multifaceted and challenging area to explore. Delving into the intricacies of organizational
change requires a comprehensive understanding of various disciplines such as organizational
behavior, management, and leadership.
One of the primary difficulties lies in the dynamic nature of organizational change itself. The
landscape of businesses and institutions is in constant flux, influenced by internal and external
factors. This complexity demands a thorough examination of change theories, models, and
frameworks. Additionally, the writer needs to stay abreast of the latest developments and trends
in organizational change to provide relevant and up-to-date insights.
Furthermore, an effective essay on organizational change should not merely present theoretical
concepts but also integrate real-world examples and case studies. Analyzing successful and
unsuccessful instances of organizational change helps illustrate the practical implications of
theoretical frameworks, enhancing the depth and credibility of the essay.
Another layer of complexity arises from the need to address the human element in organizational
change. Managing resistance, fostering employee engagement, and understanding the
psychological aspects of change are crucial aspects that require careful consideration. This adds a
psychological dimension to the essay, necessitating the incorporation of behavioral theories and
psychological principles.
Moreover, organizing the essay coherently is a challenge in itself. Balancing the theoretical
underpinnings with practical applications, maintaining a logical flow, and ensuring a clear and
compelling argument are essential elements of a successful essay.
In conclusion, writing an essay on organizational change demands a deep dive into diverse
disciplines, ongoing awareness of industry trends, incorporation of real-world examples, and a
nuanced understanding of human behavior in the context of change. It is a task that necessitates
meticulous research, critical thinking, and effective communication skills to produce a well-
rounded and insightful piece of academic writing.

The White Heron By Sarah Jewett
In the short story the White Heron (1886), Sarah Jewett portrays a young little girl,
Sylvia, bear the temptation of money and affection from the young man with mental
struggle, and resolutely determined to protect the fairy of nature a white heron.
Through describing Sylvia s authentic emotions and using of vivid theme colors and
exquisite word choice, Jewett delivers the story like showing a lifelike 19 century
country life drama in front of the readers.
The beauty of the story is about authentically conveying the author s emotion
experience, depicting the true feeling of the characters, and delivering the thought
process by putting readers into their shoes, in order to create resonance with the
readers, like her emotion for the love of nature, for her struggle towards money, and
for the crush she had towards the hunter. Sylvia s love of nature showed from As
for Sylvia herself, it seemed as if she had never been alive at all before she came to
live at the farm. (5) . She found her real self here, embracing the nature, knowing
every life that lived here, and fully enjoying the freedom in the woods, just like a
jungle fairy.
Sylvia s struggle towards the hunter is also lifelike. The hunter used the money to
tempt Sylvia, which drove her crazy. No amount of thought, could decide how many
wished for treasure the ten dollars, so lightly spoken, would buy . (13) It is the
original and authentic feeling that most kids can get, but the author didn t omit the
impact of money
Idiopathic Intracranial Hypertension
Discussion
History
In 1890, a German physician named Quicke described a neurological condition in
which patients had signs and symptoms of increased intracranial pressure without a
brain tumor being present [1]. Between 1927 and 1937, Dr. Dandy, a pioneer of
neurosurgery was able to gather the most common signs and symptoms of 22 patients
with pseudotumor cerebri [2]. These symptoms included headache, nausea, vomiting,
diplopia, dizziness, and loss of vision. It is important to note that the patient seen in
our clinic was not experiencing any of the mentioned symptoms except for vision
loss. According to Dr. Dandy, the most common ocular signs were bilateral
papilledema and some patients had retinal hemorrhages, which indicated long
standing severe intracranial hypertension. In each case intracranial pressure was
measured by ventricular or lumbar puncture and measured to be anywhere from 250
to 550 mm of water and in every instance the ventricles were smaller than normal and
symmetrical. The treatment for most of these patients was a right sub temporal
decompression. This was done if the signs and symptoms indicated a need for
intervention. In most patients there was a complete, spontaneous cure [2]. A more
recent prospective study of 50 patients showed the breakdown of the most common
symptoms of idiopathic intracranial hypertension [3]:
в—ЏHeadache (92 percent)
в—ЏTransient visual obscurations (72 percent)
в—ЏIntracranial noises (pulsatile tinnitus) (60 percent)
A Scandal In Belgravia Essay
This essay will be discussing representation, with reference and key examples from
Sherlock, by closely analysing the episode, A Scandal in Belgravia, by exploring the
technical elements such as; framing, focus, lighting, editing, soundtrack, costume and
set detail, to help understand the relationship between Irene Adlerand Sherlock
Holmes, and how power comes to play.
The first encounter between Irene and Sherlock is first seen in the scene of the
Buckingham Palace, 18 minutes into the episode. In this moment, we see Sherlock
been given a photographic image or Irene, and is asked to identify the women. Here,
she is described as the woman , an unconventional character who possess great
mystery and seductive darkness to her physical appearance ... Show more content on

The focus is on Irene Adler, her naked body with white question marks placed
beside her head, and then jump cut to Dr. Watson, who has specific labels placed
on his describing himself according to Sherlock ( ). In this scene, we begin to see
Sherlock s weakness, which is Irene, because he could not figure her out based on
physical appearance. The choice of no pieces of clothing placed a significant part
in this discovery. Without the secret, specific intimate details provided by the
clothing, Sherlock was unable to draw inspiration from Irene. Then at 26:24, we
see Sherlock hand over his black, signature coat for Irene to cover her naked body
with. She sits down and begins to engage in a conversation with Sherlock and
Holmes. From 26:20 till 26:56, the audience see firsthand that Irene is more than a
sexual object, but a woman of intellect and mystery. Revealing information about
the unreleased murder case, both men are surprised and amazed by her capabilities
of finding information. In this, she is quoted saying that, I know one of the
policeman, well I know what he likes , and then continuing to say, I like detective
stories, and detectives. Brain is the new sexy. ( ). Irene, from reading this, is a
woman who knows what she wants, how to get it and is very persuasive when doing
so. Irene wearing the black coat, made famous by Sherlock, symbolizes that Irene, in
that moment, holding the brains in the room. She is commanding attention for brain,
through her wits and charms, but proves to the men that she is just as capable of
holding an intellectual conversation about detective discoveries and work at hand
throughout the episode. This plays hand in hand with the genre of the episode which
is a detective show. Now, with her having a conversation with the two men, it also
blends in smoothly with the idea that women can also command a strong role
amongst men. And
Myths And Myths Of The Greek World
A myth is a traditional story, concerning the early history of people or explaining a
natural or social phenomenon; they typically involve supernatural being or events
(Dictionary.com, 2016). Myths certainly had a simple aesthetic function of
entertainment; they were presented through the means of visual and theatrical art
(Cartwright. M, 2012). Myths provided advice on how to lead a good life. Some
myths were purposely composed to be outrageous and wrong because it taught the
people what not to do. Myths, however, were also thought to be a reflection of the
Greek s way of thinking; this was depicted through them portraying their deities as
humans, giving them human traits (Vandiver. E, 2000). Myths explained the
environment in which humankind lived in and the natural phenomena they witnessed
(Vandiver. E, 2000). They were also intricately connected to religion in the Greek
world and explained the origin of Gods and where humanity had come from and
where humans would go after death (Mark. J, 2012). Myths provided entertainment
and also shocked people into behaving. Myths were represented in visual art on
sculptures, pottery, and even public buildings and were also prominent in within
theatres in plays written by famous playwrights like Sophocles, Euripides and
Aeschylus (Cartwright. M, 2000). Some myths deliberately contained characters or
Gods with undesirable traits. These myths all contained morals that shocked the
Greeks and taught them how to live a good life and what

Anti Internet Surveillance Speech
There is a massive amount of videos online devoted to an experience that most of
you have probably experienced; it is an experience where a person, thinking they are
alone, engages in some expressive behavior, such as dancing or singing, only to
discover that they are not alone, that there is someone watching them. This discovery
often causes them to immediately stop what they are doing and recoil in shame and
embarrassment, the sense of privacy that allowed them to express themselves gone.
Similarly, when Edward Snowden exposed how the government has turned the
Internet, once known as a revolutionary tool for self expression and freedom, into a
tool for mass surveillance, Internet users recoiled in horror because they realized
that their sense of privacy was completely false much like the people in those
videos. Why is privacy so important to us? The desire for privacy is ingrained into
our minds and when we do not have privacy our behavior is vastly different. Think
to yourself do you behave differently by yourself than when you are with other
people? Most likely, the answer is yes. This is an example of the power of shame and
the desire to conform to the rest of society. When we take away privacy, we lose
our true selves and are restricted in our behavior. This idea can be applied to online
privacy, too. Would you visit the same websites if you were using your
The Unexamined Life Is Not Worth Living Essay
Socrates was considered by many to be the wisest man in ancient Greece. While he
was eventually condemned for his wisdom, his spoken words are still listened to
and followed today. When, during his trial, Socrates stated that, the unexamined life
is not worth living (Plato 45), people began to question his theory. They began to
wonder what Socrates meant with his statement, why he would feel that a life
would not be worth living. To them, life was above all else, and choosing to give up
life would be out of the picture. They did not understand how one would choose not
to live life just because he would be unable to examine it.
Socrates felt that if he was unable to examine life, he would not be really ... Show

Socrates shocked everyone when he said he would choose death over anything
else. However, the answer to why he would do that lies in his statement. Socrates
knew that, had he choose to go into exile, he would be expected to stop living the
way that he was. He would no longer be able to teach others, let alone question and
examine his own life. For Socrates, this would be absurd. He believed the entire
point of living life was to examine. He felt obligated to live a life where he
questioned not only what was going on in his life but also the rights and wrongs that
happened. He would rather give up his life than not be able to question what was
happening.
Philosophy is about questioning life and the world one lives in. Without questioning
and wondering, life and philosophy would be worthless. An unexamined life would
lead to one that was without question and curiosity, something which Socrates could
not fathom. Without the curiosity that comes with examining life, philosophy would
fail to exist. According to Socrates, a great philosopher, life would not be worth
living without the addition of the philosophical thinking that helped to make our
lives more exciting and worthwhile. Socrates lived his life to question and to
wonder. The addition of philosophy made this possible. If examining ceased to exist,
so would the life of those who
V For Vendetta Government Surveillance Essay
Surveillance
Surveillance is the main part that portrays both the book V for Vendetta by Alan
Moore and our environment. Our daily life should be private and secured, however,
due to regulations of laws and the demand for protection, people are been secretly
watched by the government whether it is through the traffic camera by the nearest
store or when turning on our private phones. Therefore, both the book and reality
shares a relationship between the today s government surveillance and the fictional
book V for Vendetta. It is disappointing how chaotic the story line goes throughout the
book correspondingly happening in our arena of the government spying and
controlling the people through technology, laws, and police.

Furthermore, in V for Vendetta, provides various types of government surveillance
such as: watching citizens on security cameras, having curfews for listening into
people s conversations. Likewise, in our own society, government surveillance is
used all over the country. In the past, Government Surveillance mostly used
detectives spying on criminals. However, due to improvements and advanced
technology, Surveillance is fully capable of using technology for searching
criminals and terrorists which now is capable of spying everyone. It is used in,
hotels, banks, and heavily populated cities such as New York City, Chicago, and
Las Vegas. The government can access any satellite and zoom in on any location.
For example, Edwards Snowden should be considered to the V of our time. Even
though he does not have a mask, yet he is an example of revealing to the people
that the government is not just spying on terrorists and other nations but actually
spying on its citizens. According to an article, End User Privacy and Policy Based

Coca Cola As A Non Alcoholic Version
Coca Cola became one of the most notable brands in the history on mankind. The
trademark design is completed by the white logo on the Pantone 484 red background.
Being active in more than 200 countries, with a 120 years of history, this brand is
noticed as the biggest in the world and it has come top of an Interbrand poll of all
global brands. It is now estimated that Coca Cola s brand is worth ВЈ39bn.
It was invented in 1886 by John Pemberton, the drink appeared on the market as
Pemberton s French Wine Coca, on that time it was considered a wine to treat cough
problems. Due to the local prohibition laws, a non alcoholic version was developed
and a new name was created by Pemberton s partner, Frank Mason Robinson.

However, illustrations of a red suited and bearded Spirit of Christmas have been
visible in the United Kingdom starting in the 17th century. In the US, too, the
american artist Thomas Nast drew the character from the mid 1800s, with no cast of
colours, looks or hight. Coca Cola first displayed Santa in its commercials in the
twenties, which were illustrated in a method resembling very much to the Germanic
Nast Santa. The Santa myth, as we know it, was introduced in european culture
starting 16th century. In the early thirties, the illustrator Haddon Sundblom took over
animation job at Coca Cola, using the Saturday Evening Post newspaper. At that
point the image management started to make any kind of outcomes. Blissfully for
Coca Cola, Santa s red and white colour solution went well with its own symbol and
Sundblom s highly popular Santa cheerfully endorsed modeled the green bottles for
the next 35 years.
The best part of the Coca Cola branding wasnВґt the invention of the product, or even
the manufacturing and distributing it, but in telling a clean, particular, periodically

Ryan Air
1. Executive Summary
To identify an appropriate strategy for a given industry one must look into the
external and internal factors influencing the company. The following report will
discuss these factors regarding Ryanair, which is one of the leading budget European
airlines.
This report identifies important issues of Ryanair s environment which have been
formed since the company s development. It also goes on to analyse the future
opportunities and threats which Ryanair is likely to face in currently and in the future.

3.3 Rivalry Among Existing Firms
Not only does Ryanair have to compete against existing budget airlines, but they also
have to compete against chartered airlines and mainstream airlines such as British
Airways and Luthansa. Due to the competitive nature of budget airlines, companies
generally would rather return lower profits but obtain the majority of market power.
The rate of industry growth has been alarming and according to CNBC European
Business, it is about to be saturated with airline companies. Due to the high amount
of operators and high number of seats available, companies can only gain more of
the market share at the expense of others (First Conference Ltd 2007). Hence larger
airline companies have been bullying less fortunate companies and causing them to
fail.
Since Ryanair is one of Europeans most predominant budget airlines, they do not
take likely foreign firms investing in their home state . An example of this is with
Go s foray into Dublin. Ryanair saw this move as a personal attack and so they
increased the frequency of flights around Dublin and reduced the prices to levels
which Go could not match. Eventually Go stopped servicing Dublin. This gives a
indication of how intense rivalry is in the European budget airline industry.
Exit barriers for airlines are typically high. Large amounts of investment are easy for
airlines to acquire but once a company
African American Culture And History Of African-
American Hair
African American Hair
The African American culture includes many things such as clothing and music.
However, the highest beauty standard for black people is hair. Kinky, curly in
other words nappy , is an important aspect of the culture. It is as if it tells a story
about where we came from and the troubles our ancestors faced on a day to day
basis. Their hair is multicultural, meaning that there are several types varying from
straight to extremely tight curls.
A significant difference between African Americanhair and Caucasian hair is the curl
pattern or bond of the hair follicles. Other than that, they both have the same identical
makeup. A single hair folliclepossesses some complex structures such as a cuticle
and root. It contains three layers; epidermis, dermis, and the subcutaneous layer.
These are the outer, middle, and inner layer of the follicle. It is composed of
certain connective tissue like adipose or fat found in the subcutaneous layer. The
strand has cells like keratin and melanophore that provides the hair with the many
shades of hair color. The smaller hairs around the perimeter, also known as baby
hairs develop within the first trimester of conception. They often grow out as a
person gets older, but with some people, it remains. There are several different types
of curl patterns that people may have. It varies from soft waves to tight coils. This
depends on the type of bond a hair follicle has. The tighter the bond, the tighter the
curl and

In addition, since ACE is willing to invest in the necessary machine and guarantee at
least 100 engines per month, working with ACE would reduce cost of labor to
disassemble and repair damaged casting, and disruption cost as well as maintain

However, regardless of its advantage, sole sourcing of supply is usually considered
as risky decision since the company has to rely on the sole supplier. Therefore, it may
result in a catastrophic event which is delay in shipment or stop production if the sole

complacent or financial problems may occur if ACE increases the cost of production.
Thus, maintaining the strong relationship between companies is crucial.

Anzac Day Becomes A Sacred Holiday
1921: Anzac Day becomes a sacred holiday
Anzac Day is celebrated on 25th of April. The day of commemorating all the New
Zealanders killed in the war, also to honour the returned service men and women.
Every year New Zealand remembers the anniversary of the Gallipoli landing. The
day when thousands of men, far from home and their families, arrived at Gallipoli
Peninsula in what is now Turkey. New Zealands journey to Gallipoli began with the
outbreak of war between the United Kingdom and Germany in August 1914. A year
later, British authorities send Australian and New Zealand forces to capture the
Dardanelles, the gateway to Bosporus and the Black Sea
New Zealand fought alongside Australia, Great Britain, Ireland, India and
Newfoundland against Ottoman forces fighting to protect their homeland, for eight
long months. The Gallipoli Peninsula dominates a waterway, the Dardanelles. By
opening the Dardanelles, the Allies hoped to threaten the Ottoman capital,
Constantinople (now Istanbul) and knock the Turks out of the war.
By the time the campaign ended, more than 130,000 men had died: at least 87,000
Ottoman soldiers and 44,000 Allied soldiers, including more than 8700 Australians.
There were 2779 dead New Zealanders, which was about a fifth of all those who had
landed on the peninsula.
The date April the 25th, was officially named Anzac Dayin 1916. But the status of
Anzac day wasn t clear until the 1920 s. During the twenties, ANZAC Day became

Using Islamic Banks, Commercial Banks And Dual Banks
We conduct a raft of additional tests to ensure the robustness of our findings. First,
our sample consists of Islamic banks, commercial banks and dual banks, thus to
ascertain how MLG work among the three categories, we re run equation (1) by
separating the sample to three sub samples: Islamic banks (IBs); commercial
banks (CBs); and dual banks (DBs). The results reported in models 2, 3, 4 in Table
6 and models 11, 12 and 13 in Table 7 respectively. The results are basically the
same with slight different in the coefficients significant. Nevertheless there is
negative impact of GOWN on risk disclosure however this relation is insignificant.
Also the results show the FOWN and CC has more impact in IBs rather than CBs and
DBs. Finally, the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Third, we test the robustness of our results by re regressing equation (1) and
equation (2) using weighted RDI as alternative risk disclosure index. The results
reported in Table 7 are mostly the same with those results reported in Table 6 with
slight different in the coefficients significant, therefore these findings indicates that
our results are robust whether RDI is un weighted or weighted. Finally, and to test
potential endogeneity problems which have been debated to be a common
problem in CG studies (Elshandidy Neri, 2015; Larcker Rusticus, 2010; Mollaha
Zamanb, 2015; Ntim et al., 2013; Ntim Soobaroyen, 2013), we uses 3SLS because
it is more efficient than 2SLS (Belsley, 1988; Larcker Rusticus, 2010; Zellner Theil,
1962). Three stages least squares (3SLS) methodology consist of three steps:
estimates MLG instrumental values in first step, estimates the covariance matrix for
MLG instrumental values based on the residuals in second step and finally, performs
GLS regression based on covariance matrix (Dennis Taisier, 2014; Mollaha Zamanb,
2015). Therefore, the model to be estimated is specified as: (2) Where everything
remains unaffected as identified in equation (1) except that we use the covariance
matrix from the second step

The Controversial Source of Nuclear Power
Nuclear Power is widely regarded as a viable choice in enabling sustainable
development, especially when renewable energy sources remain in their growing
stage of development and distribution. Nuclear Power has many benefits compared
to f of However, nuclear power also remains one of the most controversial sources of
energy. The debates on it are mainly based along the lines of environmental, safety
and security.
History
Since 1939 when Hahn and Strassman found that fission released energy and
neutrons to help uranium nuclei to be a self sustaining chain reaction that would lead
to an enormous release of energy (WNA), harassing nuclear fission become an
important part in creating a nuclear bomb. The government had control over all
nuclear research and began the Manhattan Project. In June 1942 the US Army took
over process development, engineering design, procurement of materials and site
selection for pilot plants for four methods of making fissionable material (WNA).
Until after World War II nuclear reactors were harnessing nuclear powerfor other
reasons than for electricity. After World War II the idea of using nuclear energy for
good, rather than for war was a reason not to keep all nuclear research controlled by
military organizations. Electricity was generated for the first time by a nuclear
reactor on December 20, 1951 near Arco, Idaho.
Nuclear power uses Uranium. Mining is the only way to obtain Uranium 238 which

Crimes And Crimes Of Children
Crimes can be committed by everyone. The age of criminals have decreased as the
crime committed increased in violence through time. Innocent lives are often lost in
acts of violence, such as what had happened at Columbine. Children who commit
malicious crimes can either be tried as a child or an adult. Children tried in the
juvenile court systems are able to get out of jail around or before they turn 21.
Juvenile courts are meant to rehabilitate children who are said to be too young to
understand their actions. Adults who commit the same crimeas children are believed
to be fully aware of their actions and the repercussions. If a child is tried as an
adult, then the child can be given a longer sentence. Children who commit serious
crimes should be tried as adults. With time, the severity of the crimes committed
by children have been seen to be worse. Juvenile criminals, are still regarded by the
law as children first criminals second (Collier 1). The juvenile court was originally
created to help rehabilitate children who commit crimes such as stealing. Now the
juvenile court can be seen harboring criminal who were well aware of the vicious
acts he or she have done such as a murderer. Statistics show that, crimes committed
by juveniles have increased by 60 percent since 1984 (Collier 1). The rapid increase
of crimes that occur shows how the system in place is not effective in the prevention
of crimes. Government statistics show that, Since 1965, the number of

Positive influence of Hippies on Canadian society in the 1960s.

Hippies are the real activists of freedom who love each other in a positive way. The
word hippies generally invoke sterotypes that involves drugs, sex and bare feet.
Though it is true that many hippies did practice these sterotypes, they were people
who fought for rights and freedom without violence. They gave up the traditional
morals and values to promote new values that were about freedom of experssion and
loving each other. After getting the attention, they expressed their needs, hopes and
wants in a piercing yet nonviolent way. The hippies made great, positive changes to

The second wave of feminism was the movement of the view of females in society
the birth control, and divorce. There is controversy on how women are viewed in
society. Some believe that they are the left hand to everything. But no sooner had we
started some small events, than some hippie look alike would begin distributing fliers
promoting some leftist cause. [4] Women were however very involved with the
hippie movement. The anti Vietnam movement of the hippies in Canada got women
active politically, and these radicalized women noticed that there is so much more
they can expand in.[5] The freedom over a woman s body was very limited up
until the government leaglised the birth control pill. Women were able to speak out
about their sexuality and be happy with the freedom they gained with the pill.[6] In
the video one of the women, looks like a hippie because of her loose carefree

hippies a positive enforcement of the introduction of the birth control pill.
Flower power was another name for hippies and their sense of style which was

The Role Of The Complex And Communication System
Anthony Robbins, an advisor to global leaders who has achieved many goals, states,
to effectively communicate, we must realize that we are all different in the way we
perceive the world and use this understanding as a guide to our communication with
others (About, 2014). Comparing Robbins statement of leadershipand communication
between others to the role of leadership in the healthcare system, it is similar in ways
that fit into a complex systemthat includes all healthcare professionals and the
communication system between them. One important component of the complex and
communication system is nurse leaders. A nurse leader is defined as a well rounded
person, who is empathetic, compassionate and respectful, while having the ability...

The Meaning of Complex Adaptive Systems
The complex adaptive systems, according to Thomas Clancy (2008), registered nurse
and practitioner, are a combination of several systems or networks of people that can
learn and adapt over time that may change the structure of the system (p 249). These
systems are interdependent of each other, therefore a change in one system or
network would change another system.
The complex adaptive systems are characterized by self organization, emergence, non
linearity, chaos, and turbulence. Self organization is forming teams within the unit
through interaction and without the guidance or influence from an outside source
(Clancy, 2008, p 252). An example of self organization is when nurses form into
teams that rapidly respond to emergencies due to an introduction of a mobile
personal communication devices (Clancy, 2008, p 252). As a result of self
organization, emergence is created, which is the pattern or order of a behavior. For
instance, the pattern of when medication administration occurs is an emergence since
each nurse administer medications to patients are a specific range of time as well as
how each nurse behaves in front of the patient before giving the medication. The
characteristics, non linearity and chaos, goes hand in hand as non linearity shows that
a system behavior can be non linear as the stimulus and the response can be different
and not equal, while chaos

Milton Friedman Free Market Monetarism Milton Friedman was the most
prominent economist of free market in 20th century. Friedman was born in
Brooklyn, New York on July 31, 1912. Friedman earned his B.A. from Rutgers
University, M.A. from University of Chicago, and Ph.D. from Columbia
University. In 1967, Friedman was the president of the American Economic
Association and served as a economic adviser to President Nixon. In 1976,
Friedman won the Nobel Prize in Economics Sciences, for his achievements in the
fields of consumption analysis, monetary history and theory and for his
demonstration of the complexity of stabilization policy. Friedman taught economics
at the University of Chicago for over 30 years. Sadly, Friedman passed away of heart
failure at 94 years old in 2006. Friedman believed a free market economic system
with minimal state intervention works best. Friedman s idea of Laissez Faire,
Monetary Policy, Negative Income Tax, and School Vouchers are revealed in the
following paragraphs. First of all, Friedman created Laissez Faire that states allowing
industry to be free from the government intervention, such as tariffs and government
monopolies. Companies expects to be completely unregulated, so they can maximize
their profits. In addition, the private individuals motivated by self interest would
work together to make the society better. The companies still needed help from the

say that this are just genes passed on, some say that you can only get it with intense
training at least 4 times a week. But the 21 century, the century of speed, no one

We tried different chemicals but in the end we realized that the answer was still in
Mother Nature. And so Raspberry Ketone was discovered. A raspberry ketone is
generally described as the aromatic element of a raspberry that one first recognizes
when in close proximity of a raspberry. While this ketone clearly affects the scent

In 1965, the US Food and Drug Administration placed raspberry ketone on

inclined to the fact that the Ketones do more good than bad, until otherwise

The Ability Of Overcome Degenerative Policy Making Is...
The ability to overcome degenerative policy making is through policy analysis
which deconstructs policy designs in order to expose degenerative characteristics
and deceptions (Schneider Ingram 1997). Public policy needs to be inclusive and
should provide a clear vision of possibilities, explanations of how and why
antidemocratic elements are embedded in policydesigns, and interpretations of how
designs impact democratic life (Schneider Ingram 1997, 207). According to Stone
(2011), knowledge tools reduce the need for coercive action or force because in the
rational model, information will resolve conflict between actual behavior and desired
behavior.
Providing knowledge or educating make it unnecessary to incentivize or sanction
the target in order to elicit the desired behavior. Instead, lack of information or
capacity is the primary barrier, and once the appropriate information is relayed to
the target, the desired behavior will follow (Schneider Ingram, 1997; Stone, 2011).
However, people use a variety of strategies to help their interests and political goals.
Critics of rational choice theory contend that people act largely according to prior
attitudes and beliefs rather than new information (Stone, 2011, p. 314). One must be
aware of human and social behavior if they are to try and analyze policy.
Schneider Ingram (1997) identify some general principles (203 206) to look for
during policy analysis. Target groups should be constructed across the lines of
Steinbecks Nonteleological Perspective Essays
There is no meaning to life. Life has no inherent meaning. The meanings of our
lives are chosen by what we feel and experience or are assigned to us by others. The
ends of our existence cannot be foreseen and will not be limited by such things as
destiny. These are the ideas and philosophies of those who believe life to be non
teleological. A famous literary example of a non teleologist is a man named John
Steinbeck. Throughout his life Steinbeck experimented with Darwinism,
transcendentalism, realism, socialism, naturalism, and Taoism (Endnotes 1). Each of
these ways of thinking show up in Steinbeck s philosophy and therefore his work
cannot be classified specifically. All that may be said is that he had a non teleological

For instance, we do not use a knife to cut objects because the blade is sharp, we
made the knife in order to cut the object. But teleologists admit that there are objects
that are non teleological. We take advantage of the shape of mountains by skiing on
them, but mountains are not the shape they are in order for us to ski on them (1).
This can also be explained as ends exist in the mind which studies nature, not in nature
itself (1). Teleologists must admit that there on non teleological parts of life,
otherwise their philosophy would include such ridiculous beliefs as sodium and
chloride being combined to taste salty rather than the salty taste being an effect of the
two elements bonding.
Steinbeck was correct in thinking that as a non teleological thinker he must also
take into account the teleological outlook on life. Steinbeck said: Teleological
answers necessarily must be included in the non teleological method since they are
a part of the picture even if only restrictedly true and as a soon as their qualities of
relatedness are recognized. Even erroneous beliefs are real things and have to be
considered proportional to their spread or intensity (Log from the Sea of Cortez
171). Steinbeck believed teleology to be only a small part of the big picture and that
by not expanding their view and opening their minds teleologists would have a very

Bury The Dead Sparknotes
In 1936, the playwright Irwin Shaw synthesized the groans of a restless generation on
the brink of a subsequent, devastating war into an ominous work of art. Bury the
Dead, his expressionistic anti war agitprop, successfully sympathizes with the lost
youth of that war generation, while also pointing a dark finger at those who
perpetrated the conflict. In addition, the play stands at the pinnacle of early sardonic
propaganda. In Shaw s time, the grim reality of a second world war provided his
inspiration. In today s time, another grim reality rises up to inspire a new string of
creative art. James Davison Hunter, a political sociologist, declared in his 1991
book, Culture War: The Struggle to Define America, that America was embroiled in
a war of opinion and social differences that had irreversibly polarized the country
(Hunter). This war could be as deadly to American unity as the Second World War
was to the indomitable spirit of the American doughboy (Shaw). In light of this
comparison, Bury the Dead holds a new, yet equally poignant meaning as a collection
of political pundits, burgeoning party control, and narrowly biased media draws deep
battle lines between this country s people. A transposition of Bury the Dead s pre war
setting to a modern, eerily comfortable juxtaposition of war and American culture
would respect the original themes while presenting a meaningful study on the current
division in America. This approach would also maintain the expressionistic value of
Irony in Antigone
Irony in Antigone When one begins to read Antigone, they may find it very easy to
recognize the use of irony throughout the work. The author, Sophocles, was known
to work his plots into lines in which tragic irony would occur over and over. He
would then bring lines that had been spoken previously in a play in later to form a
climax of the drama (Johns). Sophoclesused tragic ironyoften in Antigone, along with
other plays that he has written. Tragic irony whereby a character s words carry a
deeper and more sinister meaning for the audience than the character speaking them
intends to impart (Dawe). Not only does he use tragic irony, but he also uses verbal
irony and even some situational irony all throughout Antigone. Creonis a character
known throughout the play to display a large number of verbal irony. Irony begins
working its way into the play at the very beginning of the play, during the prologue.
During the prologue of the play Antigone is with her sister, Ismene. While with
her, she begins to beg Ismene to help her go against the new law set by Creon, find
her brother Polyneices body and bury him properly. Antigone believes that
Polyneices deserves a proper burial just as their brother Eteocles received after his
death. Antigone shows verbal irony while trying to persuade her sister to help her by
calling Creon good Creon when she says, that is what they say, and our good Creon
is coming here/To announce it publicly; and the penalty /Stoning to death in
Nationalism As Civil And Ethnic Divides
Nationalism as Civil and Ethnic Divides Philosophers and scholars recognize a group
of factors that may account for influences of nationality. John Stuart Mill lists a series
of practical factors rooted in tangibility including race, religion, language and
geography. These factors serve as a basis to unite certain homogenous groups within a
state, while delegitimizing others. Taking a more intangible approach, Lord Actor
writes about the opportunity, and somewhat destiny, nations have in creating a state.
He notes that all nations are the soul to the body of the state. But philosophers and
later, practitioners of nationalism, experience nationalism differently. Scholars
overwhelmingly understand that civic nationalism encompasses the whole of a
people regardless of ethnic, cultural or religious features, and ignores these remedial
factors for the people are united by a higher entity, the state. On the foundation of
Enlightenment principles, civic nationalism transcends unchosen attributes for unity
among all. In the words of Canadian scholar Michael Ignatieff, civic nationalism
maintains that the nation should be composed of all those... who subscribe to the
nation s political creed. This stands in contrast to ethnic nationalism, which has
become the commonly understood model of nationalism in politics for its infamous
historical pedigree. Ethnic nationalism unites only a group within a larger people
based on unchosen visibly identifiable attributes such as race and

Benefits And Benefits Of Retirement Options Essay
Introduction Companies and government entities enable employees to prepare for
future retirement by offering employees a variety of retirement options. Retirement
options are broken into two categories: defined benefit plans and defined
contributed plans. Defined benefit plans include pension plans, which allow
employees to receive guaranteed payments calculated by focusing on the number
of years of job commitment and average yearly salary. Additionally, the employer
takes on the investment risk instead of the employee. Contributions by any of the
parties are optional, however, contributions are mandatory for defined contribution
plans. Popular examples include 401(k) or 403(b) plans, which employees can
elect to include a portion of a paycheck to the plan as a contribution twice a month
(Defined Benefit Plan 2016) (Defined Contribution Plan 2016). Current Retirement
Plan Options Up through February 2011, Wal Mart Stores, Inc. used the profit

CEO at the time, Michael Duke, pledged to reduce accumulated expenses and
increase net income from decreasing sales by implementing the use of the company

retirement package. U.S. employees are approved for 401(k) eligibility upon hire
and able to beginning contributing to the plan immediately. Puerto Rican employees

black lives being a major problem in society. There are two other types of
movements that many citizens keep talking about also. The two other movements are
known as the All Lives Matter and White Lives Matters. All Lives Matter consists of
stating that every racematters, not only black lives. As well as the other movement,
White Lives Matter, these protesters admit that white lives matter: hence, black lives
do not. These movements are similar and different in many ways, but this subject is
causing more problems than it should. There is a huge amount of racial tension
between these movements. Fights, riots and arguments are being created when others

PERFORMANCE APPRAISAL
Performance appraisal is essential to understand and improve the employee s
performance through HRD. It is viewed that performance appraisal was useful to
decide upon employee s promotion, transfer etc. But recent developments in HRD

performance appraisal is a systematic and periodic process that assesses an
individual employee s job performance and productivity in relation to certain pre
established criteria and organizational objectives. Other aspects of individual
employees are considered as well, such as organizational citizenship behavior,

Are U.S. airport security regulations for flying too strict?
Since 9/11, (America s airport security has) largely been a line of defense ahead of a
departure gate to keep dangerous people and dangerous materials off a plane. By Bin
Laden s calculations, its cost $56 billion since 9/11. In one sense, it is worked as

Part of the directions the airport security say is to take off any metal you have and
place them in the bin. As the direct result of the September attacks, congress passed
the Aviation and Transportation Security Act, which created the T.S.A, an
organization with improving airport security by way more through screening
procedures for passengers and their baggage (Vegas). By paying more attention
during long lines, people can get through quickly and safely. Also, the travelers will

rules and regulations are extremely strict, there are in fact just right for liquids.
Although the airport security could have chosen to ban all liquids because
flammable liquids like gasoline and alcohol could be smuggled aboard, that is
actually not the case. The T.S.A and our security partners conducted extensive
explosives testing since August 10, 2006 and determined that liquids, aerosols, and
gels; in limited quantities, are safe to bring aboard an aircraft (Montaldo). This quote
shows that the T.S.A is always improving the rules and maintaining the safe

take into consideration the comfort of the airline customers as well. As you can see
this is why airport security regulations for flying

Market structures:
Market structures are classified with regards to the competition either their presence
or absence. There are different types of market structures: perfect competition,
monopolistic competition, oligopoly and monopoly. The characteristics of the product
or service and the number of suppliers determine the market structure. This report will
mainly focus on oligopoly market structure.
What is perfect competition?
In perfect competition market structure there are no barriers to entry into or exit out
of the industry and companies produce identical units of output that are not branded.
By looking at these two key features, it can be determined that UK supermarkets are
not operating in that market structure.
What is monopolistic competition?
Many small companies operate in monopolistic competition market structure,
including independently owned and operated high street stores and restaurants. In the
case of
These are the firms that differentiate their product or services, making them unique
but in the end are all competing for the same customers, for example hairdressers or
restaurants.

The Macroeconomic Perspectives of David Ricardo, Karl Marx, and John Stuart Mill
ECON 350 19 November 2012
Abstract
The author surveys three influential economists of the Classical era Ricardo, Marx,
and John Stuart Mill and introduces the reader to their Macroeconomic perspectives
based on some of their more prominent Macroeconomic theories.
David Ricardo
David Ricardo was a Classical Economist who lived from 1772 to 1823. In his
professional life he wore many hats: he was a businessman, a financer, a speculator,
and a member of Parliament. But what he is most remembered for is the role that he
played in the evolution of economic theory, alongside of such other greats as John
Stuart Mill and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This was actually quite a big deal during Ricardo s since Protectionist policies were
hindering free trade, which Ricardo was a proponent of as can be seen from his
Law of Comparative Advantage. One of Ricardo s first interactions in the
economic dialogue of his time was based around the Quantity Theory of Money. At
the time there was something going on in Britain that would come to be known as
the Bullion Controversy . Basically, as a result of a potential war the British
government temporarily suspended the obligation of the Bank of England to
convert its notes into gold. During this time agricultural prices rose (which some
people attributes to poor harvests) and gold prices went up. It is on this second
point that Ricardo chimed in. Ricardo argued that the rise in gold prices was
actually the result of inflation. According to him, since the bank wasn t obligated to
exchange their notes for gold they were printing more notes than they had gold to
back them. This flood of currency, Ricardo said, was creating an excess supply which
was devaluing the currency and thus causing inflation (Laidler, p. 12).
Karl Marx
Karl Marx is probably best known for the work that he co authored with Fredrick
Engels entitled The Communist Manifesto and also for his work entitled Capital. He
is also arguably one of the most well known of the Classical Economists, or of any

as Northern Arizona, are susceptible to drought. In turn, the decrease in
precipitation due to droughts leads to an overall reduction in growth as well as
health for plants. A study concerning Northern Arizona forest found that tree
mortality increased 200% from 1997 2002 to 2002 2007 in mixed conifer forests
and 74% in ponderosa pine forests. This tree mortality can be traced back to forest
insects like bark beetles as well as long term drought stress throughout the ecosystem
(Ganey Vojta, 162). Insects such as the spruce beetle (Dendroctonus rufipennis),
pine beetle (Dendroctonus ponderosae), and especially piГ±on ips beetle (Ips spp.)
threaten forests (MacDonald Turner, 21260). Climate change causes tree mortality
as overall warming leads to greater beetle reproduction as well as greater range of
beetle territory (MacDonald
Symptoms And Treatment Of Clostridium Difficile
Ever since I ve been working in long term care facilities and hospitals for almost
fourteen years, my multiple encounters with Clostridium difficile become prevalent
as the years go by. The incidence of its unprecedented spread has increased
dramatically in the past decade. This observation was proven by the recent National
and State Healthcare Associated Infections Progress Report, published March, 2014
by Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) which suggests that C. difficile
has replaced methicillin resistant Staphylococcus aureus as the most common cause
of the health care associated infection, specifically showing the national standardized
infection ratio of 0.98 for hospital onset C. diff infection against 0.96 for MRSA
bloodstream infection. The etymology of the rising new superbug Clostridium difficile
, also known as C. diff is derived from the Greek word klЕЌstД“r which means
spindle and Latin difficile, difficult, obstinate . The genus name, Clostridium is
used because under the microscope, the colonies of these bacteria looks like
spindles used in cloth weaving and long sticks with a bulge at the end. The species
name difficile owing to the fact that when first identified by Hall and O Toole in
1935 the organism was hard to isolate and grew slowly in pure culture. Based on
Bergey s Manual of Systematic Bacteriology, 2nd Ed., C. difficile belong to domain
bacteria, phylum Firmicutes, class Clostridia, order Clostridiales, and family
Assignment Of Preparing A Strategic Plan Essay
The organization selected for the assignment of preparing a strategic plan to grow
the company over a year period is: The Veteran Beer Company, Founded in 2012. I
was introduced to this company by one of my former subordinate soldiers who serve
with me during Operation Iraqi Freedom. This soldier left the service about the same
time that I retired and he went to work for the Veteran BeerCompany while he was
attending college in Illinois. He started promoting their beer on Face Book and that
is how I found out about the Veteran Beer Company. The Veteran Beer Company s
website states that the company is dedicated to providing lives of quality for
military Veterans through the creation of meaningful post service careers. The
company produces, sells, and delivers craft beers of superior quality, striving to
employ Veterans in every role within the organization. Whenever possible, we use
Veteran owned small businesses in our supply chain and insist that the entire supply
chain have a Veteran first hiring policy. Our employees all Veterans of the US
military adhere to the highest principles of military service, conducting business with
integrity, courage, and loyalty. Importantly, 10% percent of everything we make
goes to charities that support Veterans causes; the other 90% goes to employ
Veterans (Veteran Beer Company, 2016). The company is small but they plan to
employ up to 3500 veterans within five years. Their beer is currently produced in

Morris Fuller Benton Essay
Franklin Gothic is a font style that is unique in its design and has set the standard
as the look for many print based businesses. Franklin Gothic s creator was a man
by the name of Morris Fuller Benton, who also designed or redesigned over 200
typefaces in his lifetime, but of course one of his most popular being franklin
Gothic. Franklin Gothic has been used in numerous logos such as Showtime and
New York University and also in the titles of magazine articles such as Time
Magazine and subtitles such as Star Wars. The simplicity and the boldness of
Franklin Gothic makes this font a classic that has been prominent from the time is
was created to now times. Franklin Gothic itself is an extra bold sans serif type. It

Morris graduated from Cornell university on September 1st, 1896 with a degree in
mechanical engineering. He began working under his father, Linn Boyd, who was
part of the American Typewriters Foundation. Benton s job was to standardize the
production of the merged foundries into one single archive. Doing this, he
acquired well defined knowledge and skills on lettering and design, which helped
him to become one of the most incisive type designers in history. He began
redesigning faces after studying typefaces which were mostly designed for old
printing technologies. He would restructure them and make them ready for up to
date printing of that time. Benton s redesign work included fonts such as Bodoni,
Caslon, Baskerville, Garamond and many more. Morris Fuller Benton was one of
the most prominent figures of the modern type design, not for the inventions of the
first and the designs of the second, but also for the attitude that they had spread into
their field in such a crucial moment, making its passage from an industrial model.

Lab 3: Designing the Infrastructure for the Network
1. Draw a diagram the new network.
2. Will the current horizontal cabling suffice for the new network? If it will not,
what type of cable should be used for the horizontal cabling? Provide detailed
specifications for this cable.
In my opinion Cat 6 cable should be used instead the Category 5 CM rated UTP
cable as the horizontal cables that are connected to the patch panel mounted in a
relay rack in each of building closets. Cat6 is the most advanced cable in its
category. . Cat 6 cable supports up to 10 Gigabit Ethernet for up to about 37 meters or

This layer is also called the Workgroup layer.
6. Does this network need a core layer? What devices would operate at the core layer?
The core layer is considered the backbone of the network and includes the high end
switches and high speed cables such as fiber cables. This layer of the network does
not route traffic at the LAN. In addition, no packet manipulation is done by devices
in this layer. Rather, this layer is concerned with speed and ensures reliable delivery
of packets.
7. Is redundancy required at any layer of this network? If it is, where and how
would this redundancy be added to the network? What device or devices would be
used to make this network redundant?
A goal of redundant topologies is to eliminate network down time caused by a single
point of failure. All networks need redundancy for enhanced reliability. Network
reliability is achieved through reliable equipment and network designs that are
tolerant to failures and faults. Networks should be designed to reconverge rapidly so
that the fault is bypassed.
In a redundant mesh topology network devices are connected with many redundant
interconnections between network nodes. In a true mesh topology every node has a
connection to every other node in the network. A mesh network with redundant
connections is an example of a redundant topology. The level of redundancy can be
measured by network connectivity.
On a redundantly connected network if a
Margaret Garner Significance
Who is Margaret Garner? Why is she significant? One may know this answer by
reading literature. Literature often seems tedious and a chore to read. Students often
dread reading mandatory literature for school, however, literature offers many
benefits. I believe we should read literature to educate us in history and to give us
insight into human suffering in various cultures. Beloved, by Toni Morrison is a novel
about a freed slave who recounts her horrific memories of enslavement. Morrison
based her novel on the life of Margaret Garner. Morrison s graphic details depict the
true nature of slavery, educating the reader in how morally wrong slavery was.

This culture was primarily white, male dominated. If you did not fit into such
category, you were oppressed. Slavery, in all aspects, is wrong. Just the idea of one
human owning another human is sickening. I do not think I would be able to have
such a strong opinion without reading literature. Literature, specifically Beloved,
has taught me how abusive slave labor is on the body, and how psychologically
straining it is being constantly dehumanized. In the last paragraph of Beloved,
Morrison writes, It was not a story to pass on. So they forgot her. Like an
unpleasant dream during a troubling sleep...This is not a story to pass on (Morrison
324). Morrison is making note that this story of a mother s plan to save her
children by murdering them would not have been passed down in society. The
people in these stories, like Margaret Garner, are forgotten in society. Morrison gives
these disremembered people a voice. The horrific events and all the other mentions
of abuse are not talked about or written about because it makes America and its slave
owning history look bad, but this is the truth. We should read literature to educate us
on the past, to sympathize with those suffering in modern day slavery, and to take
action that such events never repeat
Examples Of Involuntary Servitude
Constant terror, abuse, long days and Isolation. These are the feelings human
trafficking victims endure while being held captive and deprived of every basic
human right (Behnke 15). When speaking of the term slavery , most would think of
slaves from past centuries who were brought to North America and were abusively
forced to work. However, slaveryis not an issue of the past centuries. Human
Traffickingis the term that is used today for modern day slavery (Hart 4). Human
trafficking manifests through various types of labor exploitation along with sexual
exploitation and it is a rapidly increasing problem due to lack of awareness, education
and law reinforcement.

The Synthesis Of Nmofs And Other Ligand And Metal...
NMOFs from the Gd and BHC shows that it is possible to process unique NMOFs
from the same ligand and metal combinations by utilizing the multipurpose metal
ligand coordination modes.
The solvothermal approach for the synthesis of NMOFs was reported by two
scientists. In their research, they avidly investigated the transformation of the particle
morphology during the synthesis process. They added N, N phenylenebis
(salicylideneime) dicarboxylic acid solution which was in DMSO to DMF solution
which composed of two equivalents of Zn (OAc) 2. They observed that one
equivalent of zinc ions coordinates to the pocket of the salena and the remaining zinc
ions equivalent coordinates to metalloligands. They further heated the resulting
solution at 120в„ѓ for thirty minutes. As the heating proceeded they discovered that
the nanowires were changing into nanocubes through the intrastuctural fusion and
accumulation. They discovered that by varying the reaction conditions they were
capable of tuning the cubes sizes. The smaller nanoparticle cubes were obtained by
reducing the solubility of the nanowires via application of poor solvent mixture or
lowering their temperatures.
Uses of the nanometer sized coordination polymers
It is well known that nanometer sized coordination polymers can be manufactured
from diverse organic bridging ligands and metal ions, therefore, can be used to made
different materials with exceptional characteristics and composition (Chen et al. 228;

Social Media And Its Effects On Society Essay
Nations around the globe rely on all types of media to address the general population
about occurring events or incidents in the country. Countries such as America and
China are well known for their excessive use of the media to cover important and
none important events around the nation. The general public is affected by the media
s control in many forms, which can include media marketing of consumerism and
social media. The Truman Showalludes the society in which compliance is forced,
due to the media s overwhelming control over the general public; and argues that
there is no actual media control can be broken free from, because it is a person s
choice to seek their own path to freedom. This theme is illustrated through the
symbolism of the characters of Christof, Truman s Wife Meryl, and Truman. The
claim is supported by the articles that include, 13 ways of looking at The Truman
Show by Yacowar , Mapping the culture of control by Wise J. Macgregor, and The
Staging of real life by Kilborn . The central argument that, We accept the reality of
the world with which we are presented (Wise), is supported in Mapping the culture
of control by Wise because the general public want what everyone wants due to their
need of fitting in with the so called social norm.
Christof s purpose is that of a symbolic character in which he supports the media s
control over the general public. In many parts throughout the film Christof displays
himself as overpowering and condescending

Agarwal and research group developed the Hydrazino Pictet Spengler(HIPS) ligation
reaction so that the stable proteinconjugates can be developed . This strategy can be
used in the development of a prodrug delivery system. The advantage of this
scheme over the other oxime and hydrazone ligations is that the ligation proceeds
very fast near the neutral pH(that is the pH of the normal physiological body) and
the product of the HIPS ligation is showing very long stability in human plasma

Analysis Of The Opening And Operations Of The New
Library
On the other hand, student, Brad Kramer wrote that he was utterly overjoyed at
the opening and operations of the new library (Fetter, 1984, 8). Randy Fussell
Everett, responded to comments like this in order for undergraduate students to
receive fair treatment and for the Davis Library to continue as a resource available
to all students (Everett, 1984, 8). Everett argued on behalf of UNC s
undergraduate population by pointing out that Richards was once an
undergraduate herself, as well as the fact that all students on campus have research
that needed to be done. Everett was not the only student upset by Richard s article,
a group of students also wrote an article stating, Dear Mary Margaret, Who the hell
made you God? and pointed out that blaming undergraduates for all of the library s
problems was ridiculous (Prince, Keith, Turner, McCracken, Dorm, 1984, 8).
Concerns pertaining to the Davis library were not without reason (Trotter, 1984, 1).
The number of people using the library was counted for in the Wilson Library
during its last week of operation, totaling 20,681 students, tallied as the number of
students that left the library. In Davis Library s first week, a 41,966 students were
counted leaving the library, more than doubling the number of students. This problem
was further pressed in the weeks approaching exams. University Librarian, James F.
Govan, said that the staff had received a drastic increase in the number of noise
complaints given to them since the
Culture Is A Vital Part Of Our World
Culture is a vital part of our world. From language and art to traditions and history.
But what better way to understand and see a different view of a particular culture,
than to read a novel from that culture? Good morning guests. It is a privilege to be
here with you today to discuss the importance of cultural reading and how it can
enrich our own cultureand understanding of life outside of our own. Without cross
cultural reading, we would be ignorant to the complexity of most cultures and only
know bits and pieces of facts and stereotypes. Cultural reading not only tells you more
about the culture, but it allows you to see the similarities between your culture and
another s. Also coming across misunderstandings in texts are a way to see the
cultural differences between cultures. The particular culture I have explored is
Irish culture. It seems that to many the Irish culture is one full of life, and half
glass full attitudes, which to some extent, is true. However, in some parts of
Ireland, life isn t that simple. Some lives are filled with hardship, and the struggles
of poverty, some show the commitment they have to their family whilst going
through a difficult time, and some use humour to lighten the mood and hide these
hardships. For this study, some of the main texts I have explored is Angela s Ashes

Charles Dickens Search For Money In Great Expectations
My dream was out; my wild fancy was surpassed by sober reality; Miss Havisham
was going to make my fortune on a grand scale (Dickens 146). Charles Dickens,
author of the novel Great Expectations, illustrates a scene in which Pip, the young
protagonist, ponders about the things he will be able to do with the fortune he just
received. His unrealistic expectations soon lead him astray and cause him to make
mistakes he never would have otherwise. With Pip s regretful actions in pursuit of
receiving riches from his secret benefactor, Joe s value of friendship over fortune,
and Biddy s wisdom despite her poverty, Charles Dickensshows that material wealth

It may have been about a month after my sister s reappearance in the kitchen, when
Biddy came to us with a small speckled box containing the whole of her worldly
effects, and became a blessing to the household (Dickens 130). Selflessly, Biddy
comes to help Pip s family care of the ailing Mrs. Joe. Biddy s invaluable assistance
without any expectation for material compensation elaborates that her cordial
manners are not influenced by wealth. You know best, Pip; but don t you think you
are happier as you are? (Dickens 135). Strolling leisurely outside, Biddy gives Pip
canny advice by discouraging him from becoming super wealthy. Biddy believes
that money cannot make one truly happy. Her prudent guidance displays Biddy as
wise and helpful even without the use of money, which adds on to Dickens theme
that wealth does not help one have better morals. Her kindness to Pip s family and
her astute suggestions to Pip demonstrate Biddy s grounded principles as part of the
theme that one s prosperity does not determine

Organizational Change Essay. Tools of organizational change - 288 Words Essay Example

  • 1. Organizational Change Essay Crafting an essay on the subject of organizational change is no simple task. This topic encompasses a wide array of concepts, theories, and practical considerations, making it a multifaceted and challenging area to explore. Delving into the intricacies of organizational change requires a comprehensive understanding of various disciplines such as organizational behavior, management, and leadership. One of the primary difficulties lies in the dynamic nature of organizational change itself. The landscape of businesses and institutions is in constant flux, influenced by internal and external factors. This complexity demands a thorough examination of change theories, models, and frameworks. Additionally, the writer needs to stay abreast of the latest developments and trends in organizational change to provide relevant and up-to-date insights. Furthermore, an effective essay on organizational change should not merely present theoretical concepts but also integrate real-world examples and case studies. Analyzing successful and unsuccessful instances of organizational change helps illustrate the practical implications of theoretical frameworks, enhancing the depth and credibility of the essay. Another layer of complexity arises from the need to address the human element in organizational change. Managing resistance, fostering employee engagement, and understanding the psychological aspects of change are crucial aspects that require careful consideration. This adds a psychological dimension to the essay, necessitating the incorporation of behavioral theories and psychological principles. Moreover, organizing the essay coherently is a challenge in itself. Balancing the theoretical underpinnings with practical applications, maintaining a logical flow, and ensuring a clear and compelling argument are essential elements of a successful essay. In conclusion, writing an essay on organizational change demands a deep dive into diverse disciplines, ongoing awareness of industry trends, incorporation of real-world examples, and a nuanced understanding of human behavior in the context of change. It is a task that necessitates meticulous research, critical thinking, and effective communication skills to produce a well- rounded and insightful piece of academic writing. • 3. Idiopathic Intracranial Hypertension Discussion History In 1890, a German physician named Quicke described a neurological condition in which patients had signs and symptoms of increased intracranial pressure without a brain tumor being present [1]. Between 1927 and 1937, Dr. Dandy, a pioneer of neurosurgery was able to gather the most common signs and symptoms of 22 patients with pseudotumor cerebri [2]. These symptoms included headache, nausea, vomiting, diplopia, dizziness, and loss of vision. It is important to note that the patient seen in our clinic was not experiencing any of the mentioned symptoms except for vision loss. According to Dr. Dandy, the most common ocular signs were bilateral papilledema and some patients had retinal hemorrhages, which indicated long standing severe intracranial hypertension. In each case intracranial pressure was measured by ventricular or lumbar puncture and measured to be anywhere from 250 to 550 mm of water and in every instance the ventricles were smaller than normal and symmetrical. The treatment for most of these patients was a right sub temporal decompression. This was done if the signs and symptoms indicated a need for intervention. In most patients there was a complete, spontaneous cure [2]. A more recent prospective study of 50 patients showed the breakdown of the most common symptoms of idiopathic intracranial hypertension [3]: в—ЏHeadache (92 percent) в—ЏTransient visual obscurations (72 percent) в—ЏIntracranial noises (pulsatile tinnitus) (60 percent)

A Scandal In Belgravia Essay This essay will be discussing representation, with reference and key examples from Sherlock, by closely analysing the episode, A Scandal in Belgravia, by exploring the technical elements such as; framing, focus, lighting, editing, soundtrack, costume and set detail, to help understand the relationship between Irene Adlerand Sherlock Holmes, and how power comes to play. The first encounter between Irene and Sherlock is first seen in the scene of the Buckingham Palace, 18 minutes into the episode. In this moment, we see Sherlock been given a photographic image or Irene, and is asked to identify the women. Here, she is described as the woman , an unconventional character who possess great mystery and seductive darkness to her physical appearance ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The focus is on Irene Adler, her naked body with white question marks placed beside her head, and then jump cut to Dr. Watson, who has specific labels placed on his describing himself according to Sherlock ( ). In this scene, we begin to see Sherlock s weakness, which is Irene, because he could not figure her out based on physical appearance. The choice of no pieces of clothing placed a significant part in this discovery. Without the secret, specific intimate details provided by the clothing, Sherlock was unable to draw inspiration from Irene. Then at 26:24, we see Sherlock hand over his black, signature coat for Irene to cover her naked body with. She sits down and begins to engage in a conversation with Sherlock and Holmes. From 26:20 till 26:56, the audience see firsthand that Irene is more than a sexual object, but a woman of intellect and mystery. Revealing information about the unreleased murder case, both men are surprised and amazed by her capabilities of finding information. In this, she is quoted saying that, I know one of the policeman, well I know what he likes , and then continuing to say, I like detective stories, and detectives. Brain is the new sexy. ( ). Irene, from reading this, is a woman who knows what she wants, how to get it and is very persuasive when doing so. Irene wearing the black coat, made famous by Sherlock, symbolizes that Irene, in that moment, holding the brains in the room. She is commanding attention for brain, through her wits and charms, but proves to the men that she is just as capable of holding an intellectual conversation about detective discoveries and work at hand throughout the episode. This plays hand in hand with the genre of the episode which is a detective show. Now, with her having a conversation with the two men, it also blends in smoothly with the idea that women can also command a strong role amongst men. And
  • 5. Myths And Myths Of The Greek World A myth is a traditional story, concerning the early history of people or explaining a natural or social phenomenon; they typically involve supernatural being or events (Dictionary.com, 2016). Myths certainly had a simple aesthetic function of entertainment; they were presented through the means of visual and theatrical art (Cartwright. M, 2012). Myths provided advice on how to lead a good life. Some myths were purposely composed to be outrageous and wrong because it taught the people what not to do. Myths, however, were also thought to be a reflection of the Greek s way of thinking; this was depicted through them portraying their deities as humans, giving them human traits (Vandiver. E, 2000). Myths explained the environment in which humankind lived in and the natural phenomena they witnessed (Vandiver. E, 2000). They were also intricately connected to religion in the Greek world and explained the origin of Gods and where humanity had come from and where humans would go after death (Mark. J, 2012). Myths provided entertainment and also shocked people into behaving. Myths were represented in visual art on sculptures, pottery, and even public buildings and were also prominent in within theatres in plays written by famous playwrights like Sophocles, Euripides and Aeschylus (Cartwright. M, 2000). Some myths deliberately contained characters or Gods with undesirable traits. These myths all contained morals that shocked the Greeks and taught them how to live a good life and what
  • 6. A Short Note On Anti Internet Surveillance Speech Nick Foker AP English Lang, Period C Ms. Pringle March 2, 2016 Anti Internet Surveillance Speech There is a massive amount of videos online devoted to an experience that most of you have probably experienced; it is an experience where a person, thinking they are alone, engages in some expressive behavior, such as dancing or singing, only to discover that they are not alone, that there is someone watching them. This discovery often causes them to immediately stop what they are doing and recoil in shame and embarrassment, the sense of privacy that allowed them to express themselves gone. Similarly, when Edward Snowden exposed how the government has turned the Internet, once known as a revolutionary tool for self expression and freedom, into a tool for mass surveillance, Internet users recoiled in horror because they realized that their sense of privacy was completely false much like the people in those videos. Why is privacy so important to us? The desire for privacy is ingrained into our minds and when we do not have privacy our behavior is vastly different. Think to yourself do you behave differently by yourself than when you are with other people? Most likely, the answer is yes. This is an example of the power of shame and the desire to conform to the rest of society. When we take away privacy, we lose our true selves and are restricted in our behavior. This idea can be applied to online privacy, too. Would you visit the same websites if you were using your
  • 7. The Unexamined Life Is Not Worth Living Essay Socrates was considered by many to be the wisest man in ancient Greece. While he was eventually condemned for his wisdom, his spoken words are still listened to and followed today. When, during his trial, Socrates stated that, the unexamined life is not worth living (Plato 45), people began to question his theory. They began to wonder what Socrates meant with his statement, why he would feel that a life would not be worth living. To them, life was above all else, and choosing to give up life would be out of the picture. They did not understand how one would choose not to live life just because he would be unable to examine it. Socrates felt that if he was unable to examine life, he would not be really ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Socrates shocked everyone when he said he would choose death over anything else. However, the answer to why he would do that lies in his statement. Socrates knew that, had he choose to go into exile, he would be expected to stop living the way that he was. He would no longer be able to teach others, let alone question and examine his own life. For Socrates, this would be absurd. He believed the entire point of living life was to examine. He felt obligated to live a life where he questioned not only what was going on in his life but also the rights and wrongs that happened. He would rather give up his life than not be able to question what was happening. Philosophy is about questioning life and the world one lives in. Without questioning and wondering, life and philosophy would be worthless. An unexamined life would lead to one that was without question and curiosity, something which Socrates could not fathom. Without the curiosity that comes with examining life, philosophy would fail to exist. According to Socrates, a great philosopher, life would not be worth living without the addition of the philosophical thinking that helped to make our lives more exciting and worthwhile. Socrates lived his life to question and to wonder. The addition of philosophy made this possible. If examining ceased to exist, so would the life of those who

Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... 3.3 Rivalry Among Existing Firms Not only does Ryanair have to compete against existing budget airlines, but they also have to compete against chartered airlines and mainstream airlines such as British Airways and Luthansa. Due to the competitive nature of budget airlines, companies generally would rather return lower profits but obtain the majority of market power. The rate of industry growth has been alarming and according to CNBC European Business, it is about to be saturated with airline companies. Due to the high amount of operators and high number of seats available, companies can only gain more of the market share at the expense of others (First Conference Ltd 2007). Hence larger airline companies have been bullying less fortunate companies and causing them to fail. Since Ryanair is one of Europeans most predominant budget airlines, they do not take likely foreign firms investing in their home state . An example of this is with Go s foray into Dublin. Ryanair saw this move as a personal attack and so they increased the frequency of flights around Dublin and reduced the prices to levels which Go could not match. Eventually Go stopped servicing Dublin. This gives a indication of how intense rivalry is in the European budget airline industry. Exit barriers for airlines are typically high. Large amounts of investment are easy for airlines to acquire but once a company

Children tried in the juvenile court systems are able to get out of jail around or before they turn 21. Juvenile courts are meant to rehabilitate children who are said to be too young to understand their actions. Adults who commit the same crimeas children are believed to be fully aware of their actions and the repercussions. If a child is tried as an adult, then the child can be given a longer sentence. Children who commit serious crimes should be tried as adults. With time, the severity of the crimes committed by children have been seen to be worse. Juvenile criminals, are still regarded by the law as children first criminals second (Collier 1). The Meaning of Complex Adaptive Systems The complex adaptive systems, according to Thomas Clancy (2008), registered nurse and practitioner, are a combination of several systems or networks of people that can learn and adapt over time that may change the structure of the system (p 249). These systems are interdependent of each other, therefore a change in one system or network would change another system. The complex adaptive systems are characterized by self organization, emergence, non linearity, chaos, and turbulence. Self organization is forming teams within the unit through interaction and without the guidance or influence from an outside source (Clancy, 2008, p 252). An example of self organization is when nurses form into teams that rapidly respond to emergencies due to an introduction of a mobile personal communication devices (Clancy, 2008, p 252). As a result of self organization, emergence is created, which is the pattern or order of a behavior. For instance, the pattern of when medication administration occurs is an emergence since each nurse administer medications to patients are a specific range of time as well as how each nurse behaves in front of the patient before giving the medication. The characteristics, non linearity and chaos, goes hand in hand as non linearity shows that a system behavior can be non linear as the stimulus and the response can be different and not equal, while chaos

  • 28. The Ability Of Overcome Degenerative Policy Making Is... The ability to overcome degenerative policy making is through policy analysis which deconstructs policy designs in order to expose degenerative characteristics and deceptions (Schneider Ingram 1997). Public policy needs to be inclusive and should provide a clear vision of possibilities, explanations of how and why antidemocratic elements are embedded in policydesigns, and interpretations of how designs impact democratic life (Schneider Ingram 1997, 207). According to Stone (2011), knowledge tools reduce the need for coercive action or force because in the rational model, information will resolve conflict between actual behavior and desired behavior. Providing knowledge or educating make it unnecessary to incentivize or sanction the target in order to elicit the desired behavior. Instead, lack of information or capacity is the primary barrier, and once the appropriate information is relayed to the target, the desired behavior will follow (Schneider Ingram, 1997; Stone, 2011). However, people use a variety of strategies to help their interests and political goals. Critics of rational choice theory contend that people act largely according to prior attitudes and beliefs rather than new information (Stone, 2011, p. 314). One must be aware of human and social behavior if they are to try and analyze policy. Schneider Ingram (1997) identify some general principles (203 206) to look for during policy analysis. • 29. Steinbecks Nonteleological Perspective Essays There is no meaning to life. Life has no inherent meaning. The meanings of our lives are chosen by what we feel and experience or are assigned to us by others. The ends of our existence cannot be foreseen and will not be limited by such things as destiny. These are the ideas and philosophies of those who believe life to be non teleological. A famous literary example of a non teleologist is a man named John Steinbeck. Throughout his life Steinbeck experimented with Darwinism, transcendentalism, realism, socialism, naturalism, and Taoism (Endnotes 1). Each of these ways of thinking show up in Steinbeck s philosophy and therefore his work cannot be classified specifically. All that may be said is that he had a non teleological way of... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For instance, we do not use a knife to cut objects because the blade is sharp, we made the knife in order to cut the object. But teleologists admit that there are objects that are non teleological. We take advantage of the shape of mountains by skiing on them, but mountains are not the shape they are in order for us to ski on them (1). This can also be explained as ends exist in the mind which studies nature, not in nature itself (1). Teleologists must admit that there on non teleological parts of life, otherwise their philosophy would include such ridiculous beliefs as sodium and chloride being combined to taste salty rather than the salty taste being an effect of the two elements bonding. Steinbeck was correct in thinking that as a non teleological thinker he must also take into account the teleological outlook on life. Steinbeck said: Teleological answers necessarily must be included in the non teleological method since they are a part of the picture even if only restrictedly true and as a soon as their qualities of relatedness are recognized. Even erroneous beliefs are real things and have to be considered proportional to their spread or intensity (Log from the Sea of Cortez 171). Steinbeck believed teleology to be only a small part of the big picture and that by not expanding their view and opening their minds teleologists would have a very limited
  • 30. Bury The Dead Sparknotes In 1936, the playwright Irwin Shaw synthesized the groans of a restless generation on the brink of a subsequent, devastating war into an ominous work of art. Bury the Dead, his expressionistic anti war agitprop, successfully sympathizes with the lost youth of that war generation, while also pointing a dark finger at those who perpetrated the conflict. In addition, the play stands at the pinnacle of early sardonic propaganda. In Shaw s time, the grim reality of a second world war provided his inspiration. In today s time, another grim reality rises up to inspire a new string of creative art. James Davison Hunter, a political sociologist, declared in his 1991 book, Culture War: The Struggle to Define America, that America was embroiled in a war of opinion and social differences that had irreversibly polarized the country (Hunter). This war could be as deadly to American unity as the Second World War was to the indomitable spirit of the American doughboy (Shaw). In light of this comparison, Bury the Dead holds a new, yet equally poignant meaning as a collection of political pundits, burgeoning party control, and narrowly biased media draws deep battle lines between this country s people. A transposition of Bury the Dead s pre war setting to a modern, eerily comfortable juxtaposition of war and American culture would respect the original themes while presenting a meaningful study on the current division in America. This approach would also maintain the expressionistic value of

The author, Sophocles, was known to work his plots into lines in which tragic irony would occur over and over. Sophoclesused tragic ironyoften in Antigone, along with other plays that he has written. During the prologue of the play Antigone is with her sister, Ismene. While with her, she begins to beg Ismene to help her go against the new law set by Creon, find her brother Polyneices body and bury him properly. Antigone believes that Polyneices deserves a proper burial just as their brother Eteocles received after his death. • 32. Nationalism As Civil And Ethnic Divides Nationalism as Civil and Ethnic Divides Philosophers and scholars recognize a group of factors that may account for influences of nationality. John Stuart Mill lists a series of practical factors rooted in tangibility including race, religion, language and geography. These factors serve as a basis to unite certain homogenous groups within a state, while delegitimizing others. Taking a more intangible approach, Lord Actor writes about the opportunity, and somewhat destiny, nations have in creating a state. He notes that all nations are the soul to the body of the state. But philosophers and later, practitioners of nationalism, experience nationalism differently. Scholars overwhelmingly understand that civic nationalism encompasses the whole of a people regardless of ethnic, cultural or religious features, and ignores these remedial factors for the people are united by a higher entity, the state. On the foundation of Enlightenment principles, civic nationalism transcends unchosen attributes for unity among all. In the words of Canadian scholar Michael Ignatieff, civic nationalism maintains that the nation should be composed of all those... who subscribe to the nation s political creed. This stands in contrast to ethnic nationalism, which has become the commonly understood model of nationalism in politics for its infamous historical pedigree. Ethnic nationalism unites only a group within a larger people based on unchosen visibly identifiable attributes such as race and

Benefits And Benefits Of Retirement Options Essay Introduction Companies and government entities enable employees to prepare for future retirement by offering employees a variety of retirement options. Retirement options are broken into two categories: defined benefit plans and defined contributed plans. Defined benefit plans include pension plans, which allow employees to receive guaranteed payments calculated by focusing on the number of years of job commitment and average yearly salary. Additionally, the employer takes on the investment risk instead of the employee. Contributions by any of the parties are optional, however, contributions are mandatory for defined contribution plans. Popular examples include 401(k) or 403(b) plans, which employees can elect to include a portion of a paycheck to the plan as a contribution twice a month (Defined Benefit Plan 2016) (Defined Contribution Plan 2016). Current Retirement Plan Options Up through February 2011, Wal Mart Stores, Inc. used the profit sharing plan in which the company matched 4% of employee contribution. David Ricardo David Ricardo was a Classical Economist who lived from 1772 to 1823. This was actually quite a big deal during Ricardo s since Protectionist policies were hindering free trade, which Ricardo was a proponent of as can be seen from his Law of Comparative Advantage. One of Ricardo s first interactions in the economic dialogue of his time was based around the Quantity Theory of Money. At the time there was something going on in Britain that would come to be known as the Bullion Controversy . Basically, as a result of a potential war the British government temporarily suspended the obligation of the Bank of England to convert its notes into gold. During this time agricultural prices rose (which some people attributes to poor harvests) and gold prices went up. It is on this second point that Ricardo chimed in. Ricardo argued that the rise in gold prices was actually the result of inflation. According to him, since the bank wasn t obligated to exchange their notes for gold they were printing more notes than they had gold to back them. This flood of currency, Ricardo said, was creating an excess supply which was devaluing the currency and thus causing inflation (Laidler, p. 12). Karl Marx Karl Marx is probably best known for the work that he co authored with Fredrick Engels entitled The Communist Manifesto and also for his work entitled Capital. He is also arguably one of the most well known of the Classical Economists, or of any

Forests in Northern Arizona that the tribal communities depend upon are currently threatened by climate change. Ecosystems with high and rising temperatures, such as Northern Arizona, are susceptible to drought. In turn, the decrease in precipitation due to droughts leads to an overall reduction in growth as well as health for plants. A study concerning Northern Arizona forest found that tree mortality increased 200% from 1997 2002 to 2002 2007 in mixed conifer forests and 74% in ponderosa pine forests. This tree mortality can be traced back to forest insects like bark beetles as well as long term drought stress throughout the ecosystem (Ganey Vojta, 162). Insects such as the spruce beetle (Dendroctonus rufipennis), pine beetle (Dendroctonus ponderosae), and especially piГ±on ips beetle (Ips spp.) threaten forests (MacDonald Turner, 21260). Climate change causes tree mortality as overall warming leads to greater beetle reproduction as well as greater range of beetle territory (MacDonald

This observation was proven by the recent National and State Healthcare Associated Infections Progress Report, published March, 2014 by Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) which suggests that C. difficile has replaced methicillin resistant Staphylococcus aureus as the most common cause of the health care associated infection, specifically showing the national standardized infection ratio of 0.98 for hospital onset C. diff infection against 0.96 for MRSA bloodstream infection. It is a very important reaction for the synthesis of the larged fused heterocyclic compounds. Researchers have developed a lot of series of fused heterocycles and analyzed them for their physiological and therapeutic effect. Many new drugs are there in the market that are being synthesised from this valuable and novel reaction. The researchers have also undergone experiments regarding the effect of using various types of substrates, solvent system, catalyts, temperature and many other parameters on the rate and yield of the reaction. Still a lot of research work is being going on to bring the modifications in the reations. In short, this reaction has a bright future aspects in terms of research

Analysis Of The Opening And Operations Of The New Library On the other hand, student, Brad Kramer wrote that he was utterly overjoyed at the opening and operations of the new library (Fetter, 1984, 8). Randy Fussell Everett, responded to comments like this in order for undergraduate students to receive fair treatment and for the Davis Library to continue as a resource available to all students (Everett, 1984, 8). Everett argued on behalf of UNC s undergraduate population by pointing out that Richards was once an undergraduate herself, as well as the fact that all students on campus have research that needed to be done. Everett was not the only student upset by Richard s article, a group of students also wrote an article stating, Dear Mary Margaret, Who the hell made you God? and pointed out that blaming undergraduates for all of the library s problems was ridiculous (Prince, Keith, Turner, McCracken, Dorm, 1984, 8). Concerns pertaining to the Davis library were not without reason (Trotter, 1984, 1). The number of people using the library was counted for in the Wilson Library during its last week of operation, totaling 20,681 students, tallied as the number of students that left the library. In Davis Library s first week, a 41,966 students were counted leaving the library, more than doubling the number of students. This problem was further pressed in the weeks approaching exams. University Librarian, James F. Govan, said that the staff had received a drastic increase in the number of noise complaints given to them since the
  • 53. Culture Is A Vital Part Of Our World Culture is a vital part of our world. From language and art to traditions and history. But what better way to understand and see a different view of a particular culture, than to read a novel from that culture? Good morning guests. It is a privilege to be here with you today to discuss the importance of cultural reading and how it can enrich our own cultureand understanding of life outside of our own. Without cross cultural reading, we would be ignorant to the complexity of most cultures and only know bits and pieces of facts and stereotypes. Cultural reading not only tells you more about the culture, but it allows you to see the similarities between your culture and another s. Also coming across misunderstandings in texts are a way to see the cultural differences between cultures. The particular culture I have explored is Irish culture. It seems that to many the Irish culture is one full of life, and half glass full attitudes, which to some extent, is true. However, in some parts of Ireland, life isn t that simple. Some lives are filled with hardship, and the struggles of poverty, some show the commitment they have to their family whilst going through a difficult time, and some use humour to lighten the mood and hide these hardships. For this study, some of the main texts I have explored is Angela s Ashes by Frank McCourt, The Woman Who Walked Into Doors and Paddy Clarke Ha Ha Ha both by Roddy Doyle, short stories from Dubliners by James Joyce, and the film The

Charles Dickens Search For Money In Great Expectations My dream was out; my wild fancy was surpassed by sober reality; Miss Havisham was going to make my fortune on a grand scale (Dickens 146). Charles Dickens, author of the novel Great Expectations, illustrates a scene in which Pip, the young protagonist, ponders about the things he will be able to do with the fortune he just received. His unrealistic expectations soon lead him astray and cause him to make mistakes he never would have otherwise. With Pip s regretful actions in pursuit of receiving riches from his secret benefactor, Joe s value of friendship over fortune, and Biddy s wisdom despite her poverty, Charles Dickensshows that material wealth does not improve one s morals. In his quest for wealth, Pip makes foolhardy choices, such... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It may have been about a month after my sister s reappearance in the kitchen, when Biddy came to us with a small speckled box containing the whole of her worldly effects, and became a blessing to the household (Dickens 130). Selflessly, Biddy comes to help Pip s family care of the ailing Mrs. Joe. Biddy s invaluable assistance without any expectation for material compensation elaborates that her cordial manners are not influenced by wealth. You know best, Pip; but don t you think you are happier as you are? (Dickens 135). Strolling leisurely outside, Biddy gives Pip canny advice by discouraging him from becoming super wealthy. Biddy believes that money cannot make one truly happy. Her prudent guidance displays Biddy as wise and helpful even without the use of money, which adds on to Dickens theme that wealth does not help one have better morals. Her kindness to Pip s family and her astute suggestions to Pip demonstrate Biddy s grounded principles as part of the theme that one s prosperity does not determine
