Jacksonian Democracy Essay
Jacksonian Democracy
Jacksonian (Democracy, Society, etc.) is a term used to describe reform during the time of
Andrew Jackson s Presidency. Specifically Jacksonian Democracy refers to the general extension
of democracy that characterized U.S. politics from 1824 to 1828. Jacksonian Democracy and its
support came primarily from the lower classes as a rebellion of sorts apposing the aristocracy.
Even though it stressed equality, it was pro slavery and anti Indian (not unlike Andrew Jackson).
Also there was change in both the political parties and the social reforms. Jackson was seen as a
westerner (even though he was from Tennessee) and a president of the common man. This we can
see when he married women ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Democrats wanted to limit the role of government in the market and wanted to resolve the
tensions among the Northeast, West, and South. Also they wanted to do away with the national
bank (Jackson put a lot of money into city and state bands as a result) and sell land at low rates and
leave internal improvement basically to the states to deal with. The proposed government of the
democrats was one centered in local affairs (one of the most important was slavery). Jackson
therefore wanted weak central government within a permanent union. However soon came up the
issue of Nullification with South Carolinas attempt to nullify the tariff of 1828.
Social reform was underway as well with a number of institutions and social movements being
devoted to improving morals of individuals and society in general. Schools started to pop up
around the country. Public tax supported schools set up by Whigs in the north. The school
systems were centralized at the state level and made attendance mandatory. Temperance was also
part of this reform, and this was the most sustained movement in social history. The good old
crusade against the use of alcohol that began in 1820. The reason for this it was argued was that
alcohol led to violence, personal and social disintegration and was associated with being out of
control. This effort was headed up by the middle class (women mostly) that assumed poverty, crime,
and every other thing wrong with society was a result

Compare And Contrast Social Darwinism And The Gospel Of...
Compare and contrast Social Darwinism and the Gospel of Wealth. Who was the principal
proponent of the latter? Social Darwinism was the idea that the fittest forms of life survived over
thousands of years due to biological fitness. Proponents of the Gospel of Wealth believed that
people of great wealth had not only great power but great responsibility to use their riches to
advance social progress. Both of these ideas shared a common idea that society would ultimately
benefits from the removal of the unfit individuals, leaving only the strong and talented to survive.
Andrew Carnegie was a proponent of this latter as he devoted large parts of fortune to
philanthropic work. He used his strong and talented abilities to help those less fit. ... Show more

What attracted immigrants, especially the later groups, to the United States? How did native born
Americans and earlier immigrants react? Those seeking new life in America were ready to leave
their poverted life behind, in hopes to find fulfillment through America s financial, social, and
educational opportunities . Immigrants who came to dominate by the turn of the century, in
comparison to those earlier on, were mostly unskilled, uneducated, and little to no capital to buy
farmland. This made their opportunity very limited at first. Quickly, however immigrants provided
a cheap and plentiful labor supply for the rapidly growing industrialized economy. Similar to early
Irish and European immigrants, this upset native born Americans. They felt as is their job
upcountry was taken away, and were now limited. They reacted negatively and forcefully as the
creation of American Protective Association, a group committed to stopping immigration, came
into existence. Other efforts were made to reduce the influx of immigrants through the Immigration
Restriction League, which proposed screening immigrants through literacy tests and other standards
in efforts to separate the desirable from

How Can Anthropogenic Climate Change Affects Children
The social problem I chose to research is anthropogenic climate change, primarily focusing on
how it will effect children. The reason I chose this topic is because it s a great concern to me and
the future of our planet. It s almost unbelievable how large industries can be so neglectful to the
effects climatechange is having on Earth. I often think about how the generations of the future will
deal with the damage our generation and previous generations have caused to our atmosphere.
There is also the question if they will even be able to adapt, or recover from these extreme
changes. This problem needs to be addressed now rather than later. The longer we wait the more
damage is done to the atmosphere, which results in even greater hardship for future generations.
The research composed in this paper covers what climate changeis, how it is currently effecting us
and how it will affect us in the future. The information also covers how climate change will
specifically affect children and... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

In 2012 diarrhea was responsible for taking the lives of 1,600 children under the age of five
every day. Diarrhea is commonly contracted through contaminated water. In poorer countries
clean water is already a scarce resource. Out of the entire global population 55% of households
have access to piped water supply. In less developed countries however only 12% of households
have this luxury. In the rural areas of these countries that percentage drops to only 4%. In the case
of extreme weather events caused by climate change, massive flooding will contaminates water

Lawrence Kohlberg s Levels Of Morality
Running head: LAWRENCE KHOLBERG S LEVELS OF MORALITY
Lawrence Kohlberg s Levels of Morality
And How We Can Relate Ourselves to his Theory

LAWRENCE KOHLBERG S LEVELS OF MORALITY
Abstract
This purpose of this is to describe Kohlberg s theory of morality in detail; I will describe each level
that pertains to this theory and how they have affected me personally. Lawrence Kohlberg theory
of moral development is divided into three different levels; the first level is the preconventional
level followed by the conventional level, and then the postconventonal level. Within each of these
levels, each level contains two different stages, resulting in six stages in all. Kohlberg s was
influenced by Jean Piaget s theory, his theory focused on cognitive development, but he was
motivated Piaget s theory that described how a child develops moral understanding. It
encouraged Kohlberg to research deeper and develop his theory of moral development more in
depth. For Kohlberg s research, he decided to use the interviewing technique using moral
dilemmas. Kohlberg used several different techniques for his research strategies, but he had one
famous dilemma, known as the Heinz dilemma , also defined as, pits the value of obeying the law
(not stealing) against the value of human life (saving a dying person) (Berk, 2014 pg. 323).

Summary of Grant Writing for Dummies Overview Essay
Part I Setting the Stage with Grant Basics Chapter one helped clarify grant terminology that I
may run into while conducting grant research and filling out grant applications. I found this
useful because I now have a better understanding of what certain grants are looking for and the
grant language that is needed. This chapter also helped me learn how to set up a plan for keeping
track of the grants I am working on and helped set up the process. The second chapter goes over
how to create and complete fundingplans for each grant. It stresses that without a plan it is difficult
to have a successful grant process. This chapter has useful suggestions on what to look for within an
organization to decide where funding is needed. The third... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Some of these sites I have previewed and I think they will help me find grants that are available
in our area that we have not solicited at this time. The seventh chapter covers finding grants for
individuals. This chapter will probably not benefit my work at the Conservancy but it was
interesting to see the types of individual grants that are available and where to look for them. The
eighth chapter covers international grants and funding. I m not sure while working for this chapter
I will use this information but once again it was useful to know that there are resources out there to
help with these types of grants if I ever need them.
Part III Playing by the rules of the Grants Game
Chapters nine and ten are chapters that will help me prepare and write what the reviewers of
government grants are looking for. Each of these chapters covered tips that helped me learn what
to look for while looking for grants. This information will help me know which grants are going
to be right or wrong for our organization based on the qualifications. It was interesting to read that
some grants have picky qualifications and long processes before even submitting a request; while
other grants have quick and easy forms to fill out. It also stressed that with grant writing it is
important to follow all rules and read all guidelines. If you miss something that the grant reviewer
wants you can lose your funding request. The eleventh chapter was interesting because

Marital Expectations In Edna Pontellier s The Awakening
The pressures and expectations of society can be truly grueling; at times it may seem there is
only one way to escape these pressures. The Awakening follows the transformation of a simple
and obedient housewife, Edna, into a self actualized, empowered woman or so it seems. In an
epiphany, Edna realizes the only way for her to truly escape the oppression she feels from
society and her husband, is to commit suicide. At the beginning of the novel Edna is afraid of
water, at the end, it is her escape. Edna realizes that her biggest fear of overcoming society s
expectations is inescapable and these expectations literally and metaphorically drown her.
However, it is unclear if Edna actually made this choice made for herself or if society chose it...

Edna s life completely lacked passion: passion for her husband, passion to be a mother, or even
passion towards her art. Edna lacks the internal motherly instincts expected of a woman, She
was fond of her children in an uneven, impulsive way. She would sometimes gather them
passionately to her heart; she would sometimes forget them. The year before they had spent part
of the summer with their grandmother Pontellier in Iberville. Feeling secure regarding their
happiness and welfare, she did not miss them except with an occasional intense longing. Their
absence was a sort of relief, though she did not admit this, even to herself. It seemed to free her
of a responsibility which she had blindly assumed and for which Fate had not fitted her (Chopin
18). Edna refuses to become the property of her husband even though obedience was expected,
You have been a very, very foolish boy, wasting your time dreaming of impossible things when
you speak of Mr. Pontellier setting me free! I am no longer one of Mr. Pontellier s possessions to
dispose of or not. I give myself where I choose. If he were to say, Here, Robert, take her and be
happy; she is yours, I should laugh at you both (Chopin 108). This is ironic because at this time
according to Louisiana law, women were, in fact, their husband s property. Edna s husband tried
to control Edna s choices and behavior. The oppression Edna feels from her marriage is
symbolically represented through the parrot at the beginning of the novel. The parrot is caged,
showing Edna s imprisonment in her own marriage. The parrot also shrieks and curses at Mr.
Pontellier after he scolds Edna, showing what Edna wishes she had the power to do, retaliate
(Chopin 1). This symbolic representation is present throughout the novel in showing Edna s
imprisonment in her own life. The bird s shrieking shows how Edna wishes she could stand up for

Tumors can either be small cell lung cancer (SCLC) or non SCLC (NSCLC). Non SCLC accounts
for most of the incidences and carries a 5 year survival rate of 15%.1 On average, it is the
metastases of the primary tumor that cause death. NSCLC is often diagnosed late where available
treatment options such as surgery or radiation will be ineffective .2 Because of its nature, metastasis
of cancer is not fully understood as it cannot occur in vitro.2 It has been discovered that the cascade
of events follows similar pathways in each type of metastatic cancer: detachment of cells from
ECM, invasion of neighboring tissue, intravastation into the blood or lymph system, and
subsequent extravasation at a distal site of the metastatic lesion.1 Treatments have included
chemotherapy, radiation, surgery if applicable and other targeted therapies like immunotherapy and
EGFR inhibitors.2 In the past, due to the difficulty of treating and ineffectiveness, chemotherapy
was not the treatment when the patient was diagnosed with NSCLC. Instead, supportive care was
offered. Meta analysis has demonstrated that chemotherapy has offered slight improvements in
quality of life and reduction of symptoms since.3 These chemotherapy drugs work best when
combined with a source of platinum, which can be difficult given the substantial risk of toxicities.4
To combat the difficulties of treating NSCLC, and deliver the chemotherapy that could potentially
increase survival rates while lowering toxicity exposure, science has turned to its new wonder child:

How Does Mary Play A Role In The Life Of Jesus
Mary is very important part of the life of Jesus. She lead an eventful life that lead up to the birth
of Jesus Christ. Not only was she an example of faith for her family, but future generations as well.
Mary was born in Nazareth, Israel, to her parents Saint Anne and Joachim. Anne and Joachim were
unable to have children so Joachim went to the Temple, then to the country to pray. While he was
gone, Anne, the mother of Mary, made a promise to God that if he would give her a child, she
would dedicate that child s life to the Lord s service. The two of them received a vision from an
angel, who said Anne would conceive and give birth to a wonderful child. When Mary was three
years old, Anne and Joachim brought her to the Temple at Jerusalem, to fulfill the promise of
Anne. Mary was left at the Temple and brought up there. This event was very important to the
church and without being raised in service to God, Mary would have been a very different person

Society In Brave New World
Brave New World s fictional society [World State] is practically an extreme, yet logically
developed version of our world s economic values, where economic growth and prosperity is
equated with the success of a society. It has several comparisons to the realistic one we live in
everyday. Huxley describes this part of his vision as being a consumer society, which evidently
was satire of the society he was living in and the one that still exists today. In which people buy
all they can and keep buying useless consumer items: nice clothes, food, and drugs. People
indulge in these items and become so happy that they lose and choose not to care about their
personal freedoms, which is why it is so easy for the World State s citizens to be controlled.
Religion is replaced by the reverence for technology. This can be seen throughout the entirety of the
book, since the World State s citizens substitute the name Ford, or Henry Ford, one of the most
greatest industrialists of the 20th century, where people in our world would normally... Show more

Climate Change Is The Global Climate System
Climate is part of our everyday lives. What we experience is the global climate system. According
to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, climate change is, a change of
climate which is attributed directly or indirectly to human activity alters the composition of the
atmosphere and which is in addition to natural climatevariability observed over comparable time
periods. (Allen, Seaman Delascio, 2009) Australia s climate has warmed a lot more since 1910
by the average of 0.9 C. it has been rising dramaticllay since 1950 s.the daytime temperatures
have increased by 0.8 C whereas in the night time, we experience 1.1 C more heat than the people
living in 1900 s. (BOM CSIRO, 2014). In 2004 more than 234 newspaper articles have concluded
that we may have, in fact, reached the tipping point for the climate change. Walker (2006) believes
that this man made climate change has caused havoc on the earths atmosphere and the most
striking of all the components is the arctic. Farthest north is the carapace of sea ice over the Arctic
Ocean. South of that is the vast ice sheet that covers Greenland. And then there is the ocean
conveyor belt, which originates in a small region of the Nordic seas and carries heat and salt
around the world.
All three seem to have inbuilt danger zones that may deserve to be called tipping points. And the
outside forces pushing them towards those points are gathering. It has been found that the summer

civically and politically engaged, even making certain courses have requirements to complete a
service component. Numerous civic engagement programs exist at Duke that offer different
services and opportunities for students to engage with the community. Duke University s Center for
Child and Family Policy offers a civic engagement program the School ResearchPartnership (SRP),

In 1988, Duke University hired former Ph.D. student Kenneth Dodge, a clinical and

The Center fellows focus their research on the effect of economic distress on child development,
early childhood, the development of risky behaviors, childhood mental illness, and a wide range of
education policy issues including school truancy, charter schools, teacher training and education
reform efforts. From August 2003 to July 2009, the Center conducted the largest violence
prevention study that the National Institute of Mental Health has ever funded. In addition, the
Center houses the Center for Adolescent Risk and Resilience (C*StARR), a research project that
studies the biology and behavior producing teen substance abuse. The Center can give journalists
expert explanations on the above topics, as well as child abuse prevention, youth violence
prevention, children and technology, parenting across cultures, single mothers and more. The
Center provided evaluations of programs that can positively affect the lives of children. They have
worked with federal granting agencies, the state government, public school systems, and community

What I Learned In My Leadership Class
Q1: What have you leaded about yourself throughout this class? How have you changed? Reflect on
both the strength you have discovered and areas you need to improve on regarding leadership.
Think about our Character Traits of the Week, collaborating with others, problem solving skills,
critical thinking, etc.
A: Throughout this 9 weeks, this class has helped to speed up and aid my recovery. Without this
class, I feel as though I would have relapsed into the pit of depression I found myself in last year.
More specifically, this class has shown me my capabilities and given me much more self
confidence. It s amazing to think last year people considered me a pretty carefree person, as I
feel this year I have only become more free with myself and real with how I view myself, and my
world around me. Not only has this class shown me more internal things about myself, but it has
also taught me how to better communicate my thoughts and opinions to others around me. Like

In fact, I did not even know what leadership really was. I was always told I was a leader but never
quite understood what that meant as I viewed myself as bossy . I am glad Mr. Jones clarified the
difference between being a leader and being a boss, as I fear I would have lived my entire life
too afraid to truly take charge due to thinking I was being bossy. This realization of the
difference between the two occurred during our friday jump rope activity when I burst out with
a new idea, only to later apologize for my behaviour in thinking I was being bossy. Mr. Jones
corrected me in introducing the idea that that was, in fact, leading. One of my favorite lessons

Big Jim Mclain Thesis
The character, Jim McLain, from the film Big Jim McLain, stated in one of the last scenes of the
film, there are a lot of wonderful things written into our constitution, that were meant for honest,
decent citizens. I resent the fact that it can be used by the very people who want to destroy it in
reference to members of the Communist party (Fellows, Wayne Ludwig, 1952). Big Jim McLain, is
an anti communist propaganda film from 1952 that focuses on highlighting the ills of communism.

The article, John Wayneand Big Jim McLain (1952): The Duke s Cold War Legacy by Ron
Briley, helps to construct the idea similarity in characterization of individuals in the Communist
party with true Americans . Ron Briley refers to one of the scenes from the film as the disturbing
element of the investigation because of the betrayal of an elderly Polish American couple, the
Lesters, who turn in their son Ed White to the HUAC investigators (Briley, 29). The Lesters,
turned against their son because of his involvement with the Communist party, which shows a
contradiction to the American ideal of loyalty to your family and instead places the greatest
loyalty to a cause or country, that has been a focal point criticized in cinema towards communist,

Summary Of Captain Arsham s Diary
Mars, 2076 Captain Abersham drew her sidearm slowly out of its holster. Her feet waltzed
calmly into the brig, her fancy leather boots guiding the way. She took off her captain s hat and
gave it to the soldier guarding the entrance to the brig. Six men sat in a line on their knees. Their
heads were covered with black bags, and their hands tied up behind their backs . Several guards
removed the bags all at once, revealing the prisoners faces. Gentlemen, Abersham began, in her
southern English cadence, pacing back and forth in front of them. Some of the prisoners looked
around for a way out, whilst the more experienced among them looked straight ahead. Here I have a
pistol. A classic revolver. An antique, Abersham continued, admiring the gun, with one arm behind
her back in a formal manner. She gently... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The prisoner on the very left began crying, sobbing like a child. The Captain was not swayed by
his weeping. She continued. There is one bullet in this gun, she said, overwhelming the faint
cacophony of gunfire that murmured in the background. One by one, I will point this gun at
your heads. One by one, I will pull the trigger. All you have to do to stop me, is tell me the
location of your nuclear devices. None of the prisoners spoke. Abersham continued pacing in front
of them, looking each in the eye. She was a hard looking woman. Grey hair since her thirties.
Abersham was someone who, inexplicably, always looked cold. Freezing, but not daring to admit
it. She stopped her portentous pacing at the crying prisoner: the one on the far left. I think we ll

Guns Should Not Be Forbidden
Guns should not be forbidden! Firearms provide people a sense of protection, many people
seem to feel safer if firearms are being contained in the house , although about 40% of people
both male and female disagree with this. The race that believes in this the most is the white race
at 45%, then followed up by hispanic race at 34%, finally the blacks at a 32%. These are just
statistics but more studies show different results. People argue with the fact that the police can
protect us. Other people say that this is partially true mainly because the police are not able to
everywhere at once so this is why some people take it upon themselves to get guns and use it to
protect their loved ones from harm. Many people say that forbidding guns will stop shootings.
Although this might be true how would this stop a criminal from buying a weapon. When what
they are doing is also illegal? Guns should be forbidden? If that happens what else will criminals
think of to kill innocent people, before guns had been put into easy access many of the killings we
due to bomb explosions. Guns being forbidden would be in good desires but it won t cause good
things to happen, this might even cause an (angrily fight against unfair authority) among the people.
These reasons are why many people argue about blocking/forbidding guns because it provides a
sense of protectionand freedom, people get this sense of freedom because they are being legal and
owning weapons used for protections although some people

Youth Delinquency
I searched for articles and recent publications on the topic of youth delinquency in the United
States on both Google, which is the search engine I use the most, as well as on EBSCO. Reading
through the results on both search engines was very informative and I believe I was able to form a
solid understanding of the topic and current discussions through the information I gathered.
Google
While searching through Google I received a lot of relevant information. However, when I started
to assess my results based on accuracy, authority, objectivity, and currency, I discovered that
researched based solely on the results from Google may not be the most beneficial. In terms of the

The problem with that is that youth face a lot more pressures especially with technology and social
media that those articles did not take into account.
EBSCO
I also searched on EBSCO for information about youth delinquency and this time was able to
compare my results on this research platform to the results I received on Google. The results I
received on EBSCO were heavily academic with the majority being from academic journals, other
research based databases, libraries, established corporations, and open source information. The
results were quite accurate in that they were heavily technical with industry jargon and references
to other works and sources of information. From page to page, the results yielded a high level of
relevance to the topic with little that did not relate to what I was trying to learn. I could discern the
authority of the authors and originators because they had their titles and connection to the topic
clearly stated within the article. I had concrete evidence that these were field experts who had some
level of authority and therefore reliable knowledge to be publishing information regarding youth
delinquency. The objectivity in the article was also clear because the publications had structure and
included the methods that were used to produce the research. Those results often included
components such as an abstract, thesis, graphs, data, and

may bring tears, memories of suffering and loneliness, struggles, or victories. Such disturbance
of peace has wounded and killed many souls. It is on the battlefield we see the most hideous side
of human nature, for every soldier s only objective on the battlefield is to survive and win. Many
people have opposing views about wars which may have been developed over time based on many

use of repetition in this quotation assisted in giving a sense of anticipation as well as creating a
vivid imagery of the bravery of the soldiers, and building up tension as they move forward into the
valley of Death.
Not only do Owen s and Tennyson s depictions of war differ immensely, their views on a soldier s
deaths hold opposing views as well. Owen describes the unsightly view of the soldier s death
with a variety of metaphors and similes while Tennyson portrays a soldier s death as a glorifying
and honourable event that would be perpetually celebrated. Owen s poem conveys the distress of
witnessing a soldier s death with tremendous details, And watch the white eyes writhing in his

gargling from the froth corrupted lungs, Obscene as cancer, bitter as the cud Of vile, incurable
sores on innocent tongues. (Owen, 19 24) Once again Owen successfully created an emotional and
meticulous imagery of the soldier s death by illustrating a strong mental image of the soldier
squirming in agonizing pain. The metaphors obscene as cancer and bitter as cud instinctively

Freshly fallen ash particles can have acid coatings which may cause irritation to the lungs and
eyes. This acid coating is rapidly removed by rain, which may then pollute local water supplies.
Acidic ash can also damage vegetation, leading to crop failure. People can be more fearful of
the health hazards of volcanic ash and gases than of the risk of dying from more major hazards,
such as pyroclastic flows. However, ashfalls can affect very wide areas around volcanoes and
may cause major disruption to normal living.Medical services can expect an increase in the
number of patients with respiratory and eye symptoms during and after an ashfall event. Effects
of ash on health may be divided into several categories: respiratory effects, eye symptoms, and
skin irritation. In some eruptions, ash particles can be so fine that they are breathed deep into the
lungs. With high exposure, even healthy individuals will experience chest discomfort with
increased coughing and irritation. In rare circumstances, long term exposure to fine volcanic ash
may lead to serious lung diseases. For these diseases to occur, the ash must be very fine, contain
crystalline silica (for the disease silicosis to occur) and the people must be exposed to the ash in
high concentrations over many years. Exposure to crystalline silica in volcanic ash is typically of
short duration (days to weeks), and studies suggest that the recommended exposure limits (similar
in most countries) can be exceeded for short periods of time for the general population. People
suffering from asthma or other lung problems such as bronchitis and emphysema, and severe heart
problems are most at risk. The development of respiratory symptoms from the inhalation of
volcanic ash depends on a number of factors. These include the concentration of particles in the air,
the proportion of fine particles in the ash, the frequency and duration of exposure, the

Tap Dancing History
The history of tap originated in the United States from many styles of dance forms from
different ethnicities such as African Tribal, Scottish Dance, Irish and English clog dances and
jigs. Ever since then tap has been updated in many types of styles. Tap is a form of dance using
tap shoes (shoes with metal plates in the heel and ball of the foot) striking the floor as a form of
percussion. It is believed that African slaves and Irish servants had watched each other dancing on
the plantations and combined them together to invent tap dancing, before it was believed that tap
dancing came from an urban environment such as the Five Points District in New York City, where
many ethnic groups lived together. Tap started between the mid and late 1800 s,... Show more

Leonard Reed said there wasn t a show that didn t feature tap dancing. If you couldn t dance you
couldn t get a job! All kinds of shows featured tap dancing like nightclubs, vaudeville shows and

be noticed. The Berry Brothers act included rhythmic, synchronized cane twirling and dazzling
acrobatics to pop out. Soon newer styles were invented such as flash, novelty, eccentric,
legomania and comedy, swing tap also known as classical tap, class, military, rhythm, close floor
and paddle and roll. Flash is a style of dance that incorporated acrobatics and were often used to

Swing/classical tap combines the upper body movement found in 20th century ballet and jazz with
percussive, syncopated footwork, a style used extensively in the movies. Military is the use of
military marching and drum rhythms. Lastly rhythm, close floor and paddle and roll each
emphasized footwork using heel and toe taps, typically of a rapid and rhythmic

Reading Is Outdated, Reading On A Screen Is Evolution
Reading on paper is outdated, reading on a screen is evolution. The twenty first century is a time
of change nowadays people read on the go. Reading has changed yet it is still important in society
recently overtime statistics have shown a decline in reading due to the digital era; with the
capability to read digitally there have been benefits, but also some obstacles.
Reading is an important part of people s lives and how society functions. The amount of literature
someone reads impacts the amount of success they will have academically( Issitt and Cook 1 of 7).
Reading also helps to advance reading skills for later use in life and future jobs it improves the lives
of people. Whether engaged in a book, a newspaper or looking at random signs a requirement of
basic reading skills is needed for engagement and interpretation of the world surroundings(Hoss 1

Students with the right reading skills can in the future develop this more to a higher
academically or professional level(Hoss 2 of 2). Once developed written words are easier to
interpret; to their advantage they use the information to better improve their lives(Hoss 2 of 2).
There are major problems that arise when someone has little or no reading experience. A person

Concept Analysis
Management Focusing on Acute Pain: A Multidisciplinary Concept Analysis
The concept of managing acute pain is extremely significant to nursing as pain is one of the most
common problems for which patients seek out health care resources. Pain is a complex and abstract
concept that encompasses sensory, emotional, psychological, social, and spiritual perceptions of pain
that may occur in combination with physical pain. Pain is difficult to describe and often hard to
measure; although, most healthcare providers agree that pain is subjective and is to be measured
qualitatively and quantitatively as the patient perceives its intensity. Pain can affect the quality of
life of the individual by impacting them physically, emotionally, and... Show more content on

Pain is described as a process instead of a sensation. Pain can be influenced by decreasing sensory
inputs, and changing behavioral cognitive factors. It was no longer necessary to differentiate
between organic and psychogenic pain. GCT is to be utilized as a multidisciplinary approach in
pain management along with CBT and pharmacological interventions. Defining pain from a
psychological perspective, it can be agreed that pain involves a physiological stimulus. The
presence of a physiological stimulus cannot determine the pain behavior. The impact of an
individual s mood, cognition, culture, social, and environmental influences need to be considered
to view the totality of the individual and pain management as a complete concept.
Medical Discipline
Upp, Kent, and Tighe (2013) in their review of the evolution of acute pain management (APM)
recognized that pain is no longer treated as a symptom but as a disease process. APM by
anesthesiologists broadened from the perioperative period to include interventional and
pharmaceutical treatment of non surgical pain in collaboration with chronic pain clinicians. In
APM the totality of the patient is treated through a multi modal and multidisciplinary approach.

Abnormal learning challenges and abnormal physical features and locomotion characterize the
disease. BESS approach of body, effort, shape and space can be used to improve the difficulties in
the learning and the development of motor skills (Thompson 250). Dancing and music improves
the motor skills of the children drastically and thus can be effectively used as an intervention and in
the management of the Down syndrome. Music and dancing was indicated to improve the
cognitive ability and development of the abstract concept in children and adults. In the light of that,
music and dancing can be used effectively to manage and control Down syndrome. In the similar
manner, BESS can be used to intervene and manage bipolar personal disorder, ADD, and attention
deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) (Thompson 249).
Therefore, with physical activity being a significant concept of physical development, BESS and
the Laban Movement Analysis (LMA) promotes both cognitive and physical development. The
technique also increases body s activities that help decrease the severity of the signs and symptoms

Telecommuting Good For Business
Telecommuting is the future, and it gives freedom to the one who choose to work from home.
What is the effect of telecommuting? It is much more than having the freedom to be remote than
people come to realize. Research indicates employees and employers both save time and money.
Statistics proves telecommuting is a good business practice, but some might disagree. The other
advantages for telecommutingare significant. Our business industry is quickly changing daily, but
not everyone might be on board to choose to telecommute. The choice is strictly up to you if you
are a good fit if given the opportunity. So is telecommuting good for business? While
telecommuting has some challenges; it is still a positive business practice because growing trends...

It is ultimately up to the individual or the company on how they handle the situation at hand. Yes, it
is true telecommuting does have its challenges, but there are ways of making sure one does not
become a victim of feeling alone (Dahlstrom, 2013, p.445). One of the most concerning is isolation
according to Crandall (2005), A problem that many telecommuters report is isolation from work
culture (p.32). Having the right manager for this job can make all the difference in the world if not
it can cause a domino effect thus in turns creates an unproductive environment for everyone
involved. According to Dahlstrom (2013), These challenges are likely to impact affective job
responses, and can be influenced by managerial leadership behavior (p.441). Though telecommuting
has some challenges, it is the responsibility of management to ensure the success of the

The Continuing Immigration Debate Summary
Mark Rosenblum, US IMMIGRATION POLICY SINCE 9/11 Mark Rosenblum s U.S
Immigration Policy Since 9/11 does not provide an argument but rather he describes challenges,
and identifies questions central to the future of the U.S immigration debate. Overall, it seems that
prior to 9/11 it seemed migration negotiations were stalled every time. Whether this was done
purposely or is merely a coincidence is my concern.
Rosenblum states that migration negotiations going well until 2001, post 9/11 period, when
migration negotiations with Mexico collapsed (1). Rosenblum goes on to illustrate how policy
changed after 9/11, resulting in five sweeping antiterrorism measures that fall into three groups (4).

Garcia uses surveys to examine various aspects of immigration policy, behavior, and settlement. It is
refreshing to hear that immigrants do not let policy influence their destination of settlement. I
would imagine that policy would have an immense impact on dynamics such as this. In addition, it
was not surprising that economic and social factors more prominently shape immigrants settlements
and residency patterns (1). This perspective was refreshing and different compared to others.

Our Culture is Defined by those Around Us
Culture is defined to the group of people which learned behavior that has already gave the
instruction from previous generation through next generation by imitation and language (Adler
1983 citing Barnouw 1963). Also Schein (1990) describes that culture is a lesson that a group has
been studied and solved the problem for internal integration and learnt to survive from external
environment for over period of time. For example, behavior, cognition and emotion processes and
in the deepest level which is included perception, language and thought processes such as attitudes
and feelings. For most of organizations nowadays have to face with an increasing of a diversity of
employees which are multicultural employees especially for multinational corporation(MNC)
(Fitzsimmons 2013). To deal with different cultures and nationalities, the companies and managers
have to learn and understand their employees such as common language, knowledge sharing and
performance (Lauring Selmer 2011) then see how multicultural individuals can help and contribute
the organizations (Fitzsimmons, Miska Stahl 2011) and set the policies or principles for
employees could be followed (Demo et al. 2012).
Firstly, Lauring and Selmer (2011) state that there has an argument about the better ways to increase
the performance in the organizations which some researches show that when decision making is
improved and have better coordinate, it leads to increase the performance besides other researches

Social Contract Research
Pacing steadily up to the cashier, the masked man presses the pistol against the cashiers head.
He demands for all the cash, and the employee stares blankly forward. Sweat trickles down the
worker s face but she stands there, paralysed. He pushes the muzzle harder into her temple and
her trembling hand reaches forward. In a matter of seconds he starts to yell and all of a sudden
the girl is lying on the floor lifeless. In the matter of two minutes, a life was exchanged for a few
hundred dollars and a candy bar. It is hard to rationalize a scenario such as this, but in reality, it is a
rather common occurrence. Sadly, Humans can be brutal and destructive creatures. Is it instinct or

Rationality is highly subjective and it could be argued that those inclined to have aggressive and
anti social behaviour are not rational beings. With aggressive behaviour , violent inclination, and
detached nature, those with the warrior gene may not be able to make rational decisions (Powledge,
2016). With this conclusion, the rationality of those with the warrior gene is questionable and
therefore unfit to accept the conditions of the social contract. The social contract wholly depends on
the compliance of the people. Not to mention, the study found that those imprisoned were highly
linked to the gene while non criminal controls were not (Thomas, 2016). The fact that those with
the gene are disobeying the law anyways proves that the system at work currently is not stopping
individuals from acting on their aggressive inclinations. Their lack of acceptance of the social
contract makes gene discrimination more appealing for those who do give consent. Chaos
manifests as the incentive to follow the social contract collapses as more people refuse the social
contract. If treatment for those with the gene would mean more compliance to the law, it may be
the ethical decision. However, again, the social contract is dependent on the rationality of beings
and with the question of what is rational or not being up in the air, it is impossible to determine
whether genetically combatant humans should be under the same jurisdiction as everyone

Vlad The Impaler, The True Dracula Essay
Vlad the Impaler, a.k.a. Vlad III, Dracula, Drakulya, or Tepes, was born in late 1431, in the
citadel of Sighisoara, Transylvania, the son of Vlad II or Dracul, a military governor, appointed
by Holy Roman Emperor Sigismund. Vlad Dracul was also a knight in the Order of the Dragon, a
secret fraternity created in 1387 by the Emperor, sworn to uphold Christianity and defend the
empire against the Islamic Turks. Transylvania, along with Moldavia, and Wallachia, are now
joined together as Romania. The name Dracul can be interpreted in two ways, the first translation
from Romanian would be quot;Dragon quot;, but it sometimes also means quot;Devil quot;. Vlad
was not called Tepes, which means quot; quot;spike quot; in Romanian, until after... Show more

Vlad Dracula formed an alliance with Hunyadi, in the hopes of persuading him he was the
rightful heir to the throne, but it wasn t until 1456, that Vlad Dracula would make his move,
killing his father s murderer, and defeating Vladislav II, to take over as the new ruler of
Wallachia. In 1569, following an Easter Sunday feast, Vlad Dracula had all the boyar families
who had been attending arrested. Those who were in good health were condemned to a life of
slavery, and put to work on the construction of his Poenari Castle on the Arges river. Those who
were old and weak were impaled for all to see. Thus began Vlad the Impaler s reign of blood and
terror. Construction of the castle was difficult work, and many of the slaves died in the process.
Many were forced to work naked, for their clothes had fallen off from wear. Needless to say, Vlad
Dracula in no way considered these people human beings, and he treated them worse than
animals, severely punishing and torturing his captives, whether or not they had done anything to
provoke him. He abhorred weakness of any kind, and was determined to be the ruler of a
Kingdom which would only be host to the rich and powerful. One day, Vlad Dracula decided to

The anthropologists are required to record the aging of the bones and various forms of trauma.
They also show the use of anthropometry by measuring and recording the dimensions of the
bones as they placed all elements on the green background cloth or the sandbox, in the standard
orientations for the photographer; hold or place the ruler with the case number next to each
element (Koff 2004:147). I believe Koff is striving to tell a specific story based on the team s
findings. Although she mentions that she enjoys working with dead bodies and finds them
fascinating, there is a bigger reason she is so passionate about her work. In the text, there is a
small passage that displays her emotion towards murder. She writes I felt anger toward people
who deem murder an acceptable political policy. I felt the last of my naivetГ© drain away as I

Jazz Dance History
KEEP CALM AND JAZZ ON
The Jazz dance form is quite popular and is enjoyed by all for its energy and rhythm. It is often
thought of as an American creation, but it truly originates from a form of dance that was African
American in origin. This occurred during the late 1800s. The first man to officially perform jazz
dance was an American called Joe Frisco in around 1910. Though this was the first recorded
history of jazz dancing, its roots seemed to lie further in the past than this.
When slaves were transported from Africa to America, they were allowed by their traders to
dance as it kept them physically fit and emotionally going. The moves thus created by these slaves
were a number of jazzy steps that no one knew would become a major dance ... Show more content

Age Discrimination In Employment Act Of 1967
The Age Discrimination in Employment Act (ADEA) of 1967 was created to promote
employment of older persons based on their ability rather than age; to prohibit arbitrary age
discrimination in employment; and to help employers and workers find ways of meeting
problems arising from the impact of age on employment (as cited in Rothenberg Gardner, 2011,
p. 10). The act was intended to help the older workforce stay employed and prevent employers
from discriminating against employee because of his/ her age. Also, a study showed that between
the years of 2000 and 2010, the number of employees over the age of fifty five increased by over
11 million and the number of age discriminationcases reported to the Equal Opportunity
Commission (EEOC) also increased by over 8,000 during those same years (Tauro, 2014, p. 256).

William Frankfurt s Little Book On Bullshit
Consistently, we can see clear cases of both bologna and lying and the differing outcomes of both
these activities. Be that as it may, what is horse crap, precisely? What are the qualities of bologna?
What is reality? Will horse crap be destructive? The motivation behind this paper is to answer these
inquiries while in the meantime demonstrating that horse crap can most likely once in a while be
hurtful. By looking at: the importance of horse crap as characterized by Harry Frankfurt, why
Frankfurt believes that bologna is hurtful, and an obviously safeguarded unique contention, the
likelihood of mischief from bullshitting will be demonstrated. In Harry Frankfurt s little book On
Bullshit , he recognizes the significance of bologna while in the meantime demonstrating to us
various ways that it can be destructive. The substance of horse crap fixates on the thought that
bullshitters have no sympathy toward reality. In any case, genuine horse crap broadens past this
inside thought on the grounds that we understand that bullshitters allocate no quality to truth in any
connection. To any individual who values reality in any way, horse crap can totally confuse them in
light of the fact that they think that its difficult to accept individuals would just totally dismiss
reality with no push to finding it. Bologna varies from lying in light of the fact that liars perceive
reality and simply decide to hoodwink on the grounds that they think something else or need others

Comparing Gilgamesh s Polpol Vuh And Other Myths
Polpol Vuh and other Myths After reading the book Polpol Vuh, I was able to instantly point out
many similarities and differences between two other myths that we have read throughout the
class. The first myth that came to mind was Genesis. Genesis and Polpol Vuh both talk of
creation of animals, trees, and mountains, as well as the creation of mankind, After doing
research in the past, I knew that Genesis and Gilgamesh had similarities which then put
Gilgamesh in the category with Polpol Vuh and Genesis. While reading these tales, I was also
able to answer a series of questions based on my opinions. In this essay, I will explain my beliefs
about what the people in these three tales seem to believe about how they came to be, what
qualities they share, what is important to them, why their creator(s) make them, their reason for
being where they are and lastly, what a good person and bad person would be like if these people
wanted to be like their creator(s). I believe that the people in Genesis believe that they are created
from Gods image. In genesis, it states, And God created the human in his image, in the image of
God He created him, male and female He created them. (Norton Vol. A 159)

Friday Night Lights Movie Essay
My favorite movie is Friday Night Lights, Peter Berg is the director. It is based on a book written
by H.G. Bissingers with same title Friday Night Lights. The book was originally published in
1990. This story is about the 1988 Permian Panthers High School football team in Odessa Texas.
Bissingers followed the team for the entire football season. The coaches and football players faced
many obstacles during that particular season. They endured racial tensions from the opposing
teams and opposing fans. The Panthers had to form a brotherhood and bond that no outsider could
break.
This team was anticipating an undefeated season and to be crowned state champions that year.

Essay On Summer Vacations
Mom! I am bored.
Summer vacations barely begun and children start a chorus of complaints. They are bored. They
have nothing to do. There is no excitement in their life. The days are too long, too dull or too hot
and the grumbling goes on and on. Children wait for summer holidays with a great deal of
anticipation but once vacations start they are no longer happy.
Most mothers are at a loss as to what to do and how to fill the long summer days with enough
activities and excitement to keep children occupied and out of trouble. Keeping energetic and
bored children cooped up inside homes for 10 weeks is like inviting insanity and trouble.
It is not only the children who do not know how to manage their overflowing energy and idle hands

Rashid wants her children to develop creative and artistic abilities something she feels cannot be
done during regular school days. It is almost criminal to waste the time children have during
summer vacations. There are so many new things they can learn and experience. School books
and good grades are fine, but for today s competitive world, children need to learn new skills to be
confident and have a well rounded personality.
Other parents are of the view that summer camps bring organization and discipline in their children
s life during the holidays. I feel very frustrated when my children have breakfast at lunch time and
demand lunch in late afternoon. Routines disintegrate very quickly with bored kids. They sleep
away the morning and come alive at night like things out of a horror movie, one mother laughed.
When they have a new activity to look forward to, it is amazing how punctual and responsible they
can become.
While many mothers were unanimous in their approval of summer camps, they also agreed that
means of transportation and high fees charged by institutions were major deterrents especially when
there is more than one child to be sent. Although more and more schools, organizations and even
fast food restaurants are offering summer activities for kids, many remain out of reach of even
upper class income

  • 2. Jacksonian Democracy Essay Jacksonian Democracy Jacksonian (Democracy, Society, etc.) is a term used to describe reform during the time of Andrew Jackson s Presidency. Specifically Jacksonian Democracy refers to the general extension of democracy that characterized U.S. politics from 1824 to 1828. Jacksonian Democracy and its support came primarily from the lower classes as a rebellion of sorts apposing the aristocracy. Even though it stressed equality, it was pro slavery and anti Indian (not unlike Andrew Jackson). Also there was change in both the political parties and the social reforms. Jackson was seen as a westerner (even though he was from Tennessee) and a president of the common man. This we can see when he married women ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Democrats wanted to limit the role of government in the market and wanted to resolve the tensions among the Northeast, West, and South. Also they wanted to do away with the national bank (Jackson put a lot of money into city and state bands as a result) and sell land at low rates and leave internal improvement basically to the states to deal with. The proposed government of the democrats was one centered in local affairs (one of the most important was slavery). Jackson therefore wanted weak central government within a permanent union. However soon came up the issue of Nullification with South Carolinas attempt to nullify the tariff of 1828. Social reform was underway as well with a number of institutions and social movements being devoted to improving morals of individuals and society in general. Schools started to pop up around the country. Public tax supported schools set up by Whigs in the north. The school systems were centralized at the state level and made attendance mandatory. Temperance was also part of this reform, and this was the most sustained movement in social history. The good old crusade against the use of alcohol that began in 1820. The reason for this it was argued was that alcohol led to violence, personal and social disintegration and was associated with being out of control. This effort was headed up by the middle class (women mostly) that assumed poverty, crime, and every other thing wrong with society was a result ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Social Darwinism was the idea that the fittest forms of life survived over thousands of years due to biological fitness. Proponents of the Gospel of Wealth believed that people of great wealth had not only great power but great responsibility to use their riches to advance social progress. Both of these ideas shared a common idea that society would ultimately benefits from the removal of the unfit individuals, leaving only the strong and talented to survive. Andrew Carnegie was a proponent of this latter as he devoted large parts of fortune to philanthropic work. He used his strong and talented abilities to help those less fit. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... What attracted immigrants, especially the later groups, to the United States? How did native born Americans and earlier immigrants react? Those seeking new life in America were ready to leave their poverted life behind, in hopes to find fulfillment through America s financial, social, and educational opportunities . Immigrants who came to dominate by the turn of the century, in comparison to those earlier on, were mostly unskilled, uneducated, and little to no capital to buy farmland. This made their opportunity very limited at first. Quickly, however immigrants provided a cheap and plentiful labor supply for the rapidly growing industrialized economy. Similar to early Irish and European immigrants, this upset native born Americans. They felt as is their job upcountry was taken away, and were now limited. They reacted negatively and forcefully as the creation of American Protective Association, a group committed to stopping immigration, came into existence. Other efforts were made to reduce the influx of immigrants through the Immigration Restriction League, which proposed screening immigrants through literacy tests and other standards in efforts to separate the desirable from ... • 4. How Can Anthropogenic Climate Change Affects Children The social problem I chose to research is anthropogenic climate change, primarily focusing on how it will effect children. The reason I chose this topic is because it s a great concern to me and the future of our planet. It s almost unbelievable how large industries can be so neglectful to the effects climatechange is having on Earth. I often think about how the generations of the future will deal with the damage our generation and previous generations have caused to our atmosphere. There is also the question if they will even be able to adapt, or recover from these extreme changes. This problem needs to be addressed now rather than later. The longer we wait the more damage is done to the atmosphere, which results in even greater hardship for future generations. The research composed in this paper covers what climate changeis, how it is currently effecting us and how it will affect us in the future. The information also covers how climate change will specifically affect children and... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Lawrence Kohlberg s Levels Of Morality Running head: LAWRENCE KHOLBERG S LEVELS OF MORALITY Lawrence Kohlberg s Levels of Morality And How We Can Relate Ourselves to his Theory Sarah Blasco Tri County Technical College LAWRENCE KOHLBERG S LEVELS OF MORALITY Abstract This purpose of this is to describe Kohlberg s theory of morality in detail; I will describe each level that pertains to this theory and how they have affected me personally. Lawrence Kohlberg theory of moral development is divided into three different levels; the first level is the preconventional level followed by the conventional level, and then the postconventonal level. Within each of these levels, each level contains two different stages, resulting in six stages in all. Kohlberg s was influenced by Jean Piaget s theory, his theory focused on cognitive development, but he was motivated Piaget s theory that described how a child develops moral understanding. It encouraged Kohlberg to research deeper and develop his theory of moral development more in depth. For Kohlberg s research, he decided to use the interviewing technique using moral dilemmas. Kohlberg used several different techniques for his research strategies, but he had one famous dilemma, known as the Heinz dilemma , also defined as, pits the value of obeying the law (not stealing) against the value of human life (saving a dying person) (Berk, 2014 pg. 323). Summary of Grant Writing for Dummies Overview Essay Part I Setting the Stage with Grant Basics Chapter one helped clarify grant terminology that I may run into while conducting grant research and filling out grant applications. I found this useful because I now have a better understanding of what certain grants are looking for and the grant language that is needed. This chapter also helped me learn how to set up a plan for keeping track of the grants I am working on and helped set up the process. The second chapter goes over how to create and complete fundingplans for each grant. It stresses that without a plan it is difficult to have a successful grant process. This chapter has useful suggestions on what to look for within an organization to decide where funding is needed. The third... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Some of these sites I have previewed and I think they will help me find grants that are available in our area that we have not solicited at this time. The seventh chapter covers finding grants for individuals. This chapter will probably not benefit my work at the Conservancy but it was interesting to see the types of individual grants that are available and where to look for them. The eighth chapter covers international grants and funding. I m not sure while working for this chapter I will use this information but once again it was useful to know that there are resources out there to help with these types of grants if I ever need them. Part III Playing by the rules of the Grants Game Chapters nine and ten are chapters that will help me prepare and write what the reviewers of government grants are looking for. Each of these chapters covered tips that helped me learn what to look for while looking for grants. This information will help me know which grants are going to be right or wrong for our organization based on the qualifications. It was interesting to read that some grants have picky qualifications and long processes before even submitting a request; while other grants have quick and easy forms to fill out. It also stressed that with grant writing it is important to follow all rules and read all guidelines. If you miss something that the grant reviewer wants you can lose your funding request. • 8. Marital Expectations In Edna Pontellier s The Awakening The pressures and expectations of society can be truly grueling; at times it may seem there is only one way to escape these pressures. The Awakening follows the transformation of a simple and obedient housewife, Edna, into a self actualized, empowered woman or so it seems. In an epiphany, Edna realizes the only way for her to truly escape the oppression she feels from society and her husband, is to commit suicide. At the beginning of the novel Edna is afraid of water, at the end, it is her escape. Edna realizes that her biggest fear of overcoming society s expectations is inescapable and these expectations literally and metaphorically drown her. However, it is unclear if Edna actually made this choice made for herself or if society chose it... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Edna s life completely lacked passion: passion for her husband, passion to be a mother, or even passion towards her art. Edna lacks the internal motherly instincts expected of a woman, She was fond of her children in an uneven, impulsive way. She would sometimes gather them passionately to her heart; she would sometimes forget them. The year before they had spent part of the summer with their grandmother Pontellier in Iberville. Feeling secure regarding their happiness and welfare, she did not miss them except with an occasional intense longing. Their absence was a sort of relief, though she did not admit this, even to herself. It seemed to free her of a responsibility which she had blindly assumed and for which Fate had not fitted her (Chopin 18). Edna refuses to become the property of her husband even though obedience was expected, You have been a very, very foolish boy, wasting your time dreaming of impossible things when you speak of Mr. Pontellier setting me free! I am no longer one of Mr. Pontellier s possessions to dispose of or not. I give myself where I choose. If he were to say, Here, Robert, take her and be happy; she is yours, I should laugh at you both (Chopin 108). This is ironic because at this time according to Louisiana law, women were, in fact, their husband s property. Edna s husband tried to control Edna s choices and behavior. The oppression Edna feels from her marriage is symbolically represented through the parrot at the beginning of the novel. The parrot is caged, showing Edna s imprisonment in her own marriage. The parrot also shrieks and curses at Mr. Pontellier after he scolds Edna, showing what Edna wishes she had the power to do, retaliate (Chopin 1). This symbolic representation is present throughout the novel in showing Edna s imprisonment in her own life. The bird s shrieking shows how Edna wishes she could stand up for ... NSCLC is often diagnosed late where available treatment options such as surgery or radiation will be ineffective .2 Because of its nature, metastasis of cancer is not fully understood as it cannot occur in vitro.2 It has been discovered that the cascade of events follows similar pathways in each type of metastatic cancer: detachment of cells from ECM, invasion of neighboring tissue, intravastation into the blood or lymph system, and subsequent extravasation at a distal site of the metastatic lesion.1 Treatments have included chemotherapy, radiation, surgery if applicable and other targeted therapies like immunotherapy and EGFR inhibitors.2 In the past, due to the difficulty of treating and ineffectiveness, chemotherapy was not the treatment when the patient was diagnosed with NSCLC. Instead, supportive care was offered. Meta analysis has demonstrated that chemotherapy has offered slight improvements in quality of life and reduction of symptoms since.3 These chemotherapy drugs work best when combined with a source of platinum, which can be difficult given the substantial risk of toxicities.4 To combat the difficulties of treating NSCLC, and deliver the chemotherapy that could potentially increase survival rates while lowering toxicity exposure, science has turned to its new wonder child: ... In which people buy all they can and keep buying useless consumer items: nice clothes, food, and drugs. People indulge in these items and become so happy that they lose and choose not to care about their personal freedoms, which is why it is so easy for the World State s citizens to be controlled. People can be more fearful of the health hazards of volcanic ash and gases than of the risk of dying from more major hazards, such as pyroclastic flows. However, ashfalls can affect very wide areas around volcanoes and may cause major disruption to normal living.Medical services can expect an increase in the number of patients with respiratory and eye symptoms during and after an ashfall event. Effects of ash on health may be divided into several categories: respiratory effects, eye symptoms, and skin irritation. In some eruptions, ash particles can be so fine that they are breathed deep into the lungs. With high exposure, even healthy individuals will experience chest discomfort with increased coughing and irritation. In rare circumstances, long term exposure to fine volcanic ash may lead to serious lung diseases. For these diseases to occur, the ash must be very fine, contain crystalline silica (for the disease silicosis to occur) and the people must be exposed to the ash in high concentrations over many years. Exposure to crystalline silica in volcanic ash is typically of short duration (days to weeks), and studies suggest that the recommended exposure limits (similar in most countries) can be exceeded for short periods of time for the general population. People suffering from asthma or other lung problems such as bronchitis and emphysema, and severe heart problems are most at risk. The development of respiratory symptoms from the inhalation of volcanic ash depends on a number of factors. These include the concentration of particles in the air, the proportion of fine particles in the ash, the frequency and duration of exposure, the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

With aggressive behaviour , violent inclination, and detached nature, those with the warrior gene may not be able to make rational decisions (Powledge, 2016). With this conclusion, the rationality of those with the warrior gene is questionable and therefore unfit to accept the conditions of the social contract. The social contract wholly depends on the compliance of the people. Not to mention, the study found that those imprisoned were highly linked to the gene while non criminal controls were not (Thomas, 2016). The fact that those with the gene are disobeying the law anyways proves that the system at work currently is not stopping individuals from acting on their aggressive inclinations. Their lack of acceptance of the social contract makes gene discrimination more appealing for those who do give consent. • 50. Comparing Gilgamesh s Polpol Vuh And Other Myths Polpol Vuh and other Myths After reading the book Polpol Vuh, I was able to instantly point out many similarities and differences between two other myths that we have read throughout the class. The first myth that came to mind was Genesis. Genesis and Polpol Vuh both talk of creation of animals, trees, and mountains, as well as the creation of mankind, After doing research in the past, I knew that Genesis and Gilgamesh had similarities which then put Gilgamesh in the category with Polpol Vuh and Genesis. While reading these tales, I was also able to answer a series of questions based on my opinions. In this essay, I will explain my beliefs about what the people in these three tales seem to believe about how they came to be, what qualities they share, what is important to them, why their creator(s) make them, their reason for being where they are and lastly, what a good person and bad person would be like if these people wanted to be like their creator(s). I believe that the people in Genesis believe that they are created from Gods image. In genesis, it states, And God created the human in his image, in the image of God He created him, male and female He created them. (Norton Vol. A 159) ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 53. Essay On Summer Vacations Mom! I am bored. Summer vacations barely begun and children start a chorus of complaints. They are bored. They have nothing to do. There is no excitement in their life. The days are too long, too dull or too hot and the grumbling goes on and on. Children wait for summer holidays with a great deal of anticipation but once vacations start they are no longer happy. Most mothers are at a loss as to what to do and how to fill the long summer days with enough activities and excitement to keep children occupied and out of trouble. Keeping energetic and bored children cooped up inside homes for 10 weeks is like inviting insanity and trouble. It is not only the children who do not know how to manage their overflowing energy and idle hands and minds ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Rashid wants her children to develop creative and artistic abilities something she feels cannot be done during regular school days. It is almost criminal to waste the time children have during summer vacations. There are so many new things they can learn and experience. School books and good grades are fine, but for today s competitive world, children need to learn new skills to be confident and have a well rounded personality. Other parents are of the view that summer camps bring organization and discipline in their children s life during the holidays. I feel very frustrated when my children have breakfast at lunch time and demand lunch in late afternoon. Routines disintegrate very quickly with bored kids. They sleep away the morning and come alive at night like things out of a horror movie, one mother laughed. When they have a new activity to look forward to, it is amazing how punctual and responsible they can become. While many mothers were unanimous in their approval of summer camps, they also agreed that means of transportation and high fees charged by institutions were major deterrents especially when there is more than one child to be sent. Although more and more schools, organizations and even fast food restaurants are offering summer activities for kids, many remain out of reach of even upper class income ...
