The Influences of Asia, Africa and the Americas toward Contemporary Society
September 13, 2015
The progression of morality as it relates to the influence of family, religion and society varies
between Asia, Africa, and the Americas. Our contemporary society has been influenced
tremendously in many different areas by these different societies.
Social order in Asia was established by Hammurabi s Code of Laws. Hammurabi himself was an
Amorite king of Babylon, he set these laws to place order in Babylon. Hammurabi s lex talionus
explains that the punishment of a crime should be equal to what crime has been done, these laws
are described as an eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth (Levack, B., Muir, E., amp; ... Show more

Similarities between ancient Egypt and now is that the subject of divorce is a private matter,
unless one of the two wants to publicize it. As for the America s in their advanced agriculture
system led to modern society s agriculture as well. This system was put to use by Ancient Peru after
hunters were in search to consume foods other than meats. Ancient Peru created the spread of corn,
cassava, and potatoes (Adas, 1992), this resulted in the growth population in the Americas, because
people who only had access to cassava were able to eat this new thing called corn. This sense of
spreading food is similar to how we can get Florida oranges, and Georgia peaches to Delaware,
by trade. Lastly, Contemporary society and the Americas both served as a melting pot for existing
civilizations. People of many descents migrated to the Americas in search of something new, and
today people from other countries migrate to the many states of America to start a new life with
new opportunities. Once all the newcomers came and got settled in the Americas, a defined culture
had set in as well, which was different from the rest. Today you still hear people refer to our
American culture across many different areas of life. In comparison to all of the societies
mentioned above, each one has contributed to modern American culture in the subjects of literature
and art. Egyptians were the first to develop an alphabet through their

Community For My Old Volunteer Group
Community for me, is feeling connected, accepted, and at home. It is where everyone is
working together for a mutual cause, and having fun doing it. It is not so much a place to me,
as it is a feeling. I can go to any town, city, or community but it does not necessarily take a place
in my heart as much as the sense of community I have experienced before. What other place to
find community than my old volunteer group, ironically called FOCUS on Community.
FOCUS is an organization whose mission is to reach out to the people of our community, like
teens and families, to prevent substance abuse, smoking, alcoholism, and even to help families
that are already dealing with these issues. My favorite program was the F.A.S.T. program
Families And Schools Together because I worked one on one with people and really saw that
we were making a difference in these people s lives. At the time I first volunteered for F.A.S.T. I
did not realize exactly what I was doing, I merely signed up because I wanted to help out in some
way. However, I soon realized that we truly were bringing these families closer. We gave them a
safe environment with dinner and activities, and a chance every week to have one on one time with
the child of their choice. This helped them solve arguments and build stronger and closer
relationships with children who are having a rough time. Another place where I felt an immense
sense of community was Italian Fest. I have volunteered at this festival for the past

The Equator Principle, A Risk Management Framework...
The equator principle, a risk management framework designed and adopted for financial institutions
that requires those who are bound by this code to carefully measure, determine, and think through
the environmental and social implications of a project and make the proper procedures to ensure
that debtor it is loaning the money to exercise a pretty high standard of care before financing the
said project. The equator principle sets a minimum standard of due diligence to support responsible
decision making for these financial institutions before making a loan.

Phnom Penh Sugar, the sugar plantation behind these dreadful news is a company owned by
Cambodian tycoon and ruling party senator Ly Yong Phat, who with the help from ANZ Bank, has
successfully transformed 20,000 hectares of land in the once peaceful Kampong Speu province in
Cambodia, the country s most impoverished region, into the largest sugar operation in Cambodia.
These news leaves the impression to the public eye, especially the analysts, investors, and
stakeholders, that the banking giant s desire to portray itself as an ethical bank, as a bank that is a
signatory to various internationally renowned standards that are committed to social and
environmental sustainability is less than serious.
Modern times requires the need for modern managers, and these modern managers are required to
have a high sensitivity about issues concerning ethical behaviour and social responsibility due to
increasing pressure from interest groups, legal bodies, government officials, media coverage, and
the public.
A manager s level of thinking about corporate social responsibility ranges from To make a profit is

The Field Of Public Administration
The following paper analyzes the evolution of the field of public administration based on the
leadership style and the organizational structure. It has three parts; the first part will compare the
organizational framework of popular theorists with special attention to the type of leadership and
the environment of the organization. The second part will discuss a comprehensive definition of
the field of public administration, and the third part is the predictions about the field of public
administration, and the opportunities and threats faced by it. The focus of the paper is the
organizational framework. The Y axis has the environment of the organization with Formal at one
end and Flexible at the other end, and the X axis has the role of the leader with Autocratic on one
end and Democratic on the other. The framework will discuss the major relevant contributions of
the following theorists; Max Weber, Frederick W. Taylor, Luther H. Gulick, Mary Parker Follet,
Elton Mayo, Chester Barnard, Herbert A. Simon, Charles E. Lindblom, and Dwight Waldo.
Autocratic and Formal:
Max Weber (1864 1920): According to Weber, the rule of law is bureaucracy
. He focused on
establishing clear lines of authority and control. His theory emphasized the need for a hierarchical
structure of power. His organization operates with a high degree of formality. He believed in the
power of rule and stressed on a clear chain of command (citation). Weber believed in domination,

Price Gouging In The United States
The idea of price gouging can have many different perspectives on it, and is very controversial.
Price gouging is when a seller spikes their prices of goods, services, or other purchase products to
a level higher than reasonable. Ethically, I do agree with the fact that merchants shouldn t sky
rocket their product prices during a state of emergency price gouging.
Illegally, price gouging is continuing to affect our labor market and offset the cost of living in
many states. Price gouging is continuing to affect the health of many people due to pharmaceutical
companies and their major increases in price. Lastly, price gouging just is unjust, immoral, and
against the law in states. While there are no federal regulations to price gouging and ... Show more

Price gouging occurs when a merchant drastically raises their prices on daily necessities. When
setting cities living wage and cost of living, the cost of daily necessities plays a role. Cost of
living is the amount of money needed to sustain a certain level of living, including basic expenses
such as housing, food, taxes and health care.
A book called The fundamentals of minimum wage fixing by Francois Eyraud and Catherine
Saget talks brief about cost of living and how it is incorporated into minimum wage. The authors
gave different ways on how the cost of living is determined. According to the two, they shared that
the cost of living is determined by the price of goods (standard necessities to live), and wage
statistics submitted by the United States Department of Labor (Eyraud, Saget, 2005). Both living
wage and cost of living differentiates by state and cities. Cost of living effects how the government
set the nations minimum wage. When merchants continuously raise prices of daily necessities and
they are unreasonable, it can affect the cost of living. To prevent this trickle down effect, the
United States government should create federal regulations on price gouging to prevent an increase
in cost of living which then leads to an increase in minimum wage, which then leads to possible jobs

Criticism Of Medea
I cannot find one reason for divorcing theatrics from history why must history wear such a dry
cloak of dullness? I love theatre and you see its profound effects in my writing especially tragedy.
History is dramatized through speeches and conversations among the characters I portray, so much
that people have coined the term tragic history to encapsulate my works, in which I proudly claim
ownership.
Euripedes has been thought to be a mediocre playwright but nonetheless determinedly produces
more plays. I have long admired his tenacity in being an innovator amidst a scene that constantly
subjects him to ridicule. With my status as a tragic historian as some may put it, I am in an
informed position to critique this play. My belief is that people accord him with less recognition
than he actually deserves, and I genuinely appreciate the ingenious tragic elements he incorporates
to distinguish Medea from other mainstream tragedies.
As a historian and a Greek citizen, nomos is a concept close to my heart. Before the play, Medea
was portrayed as a ruthless witch renowned for her sorcery and deception. Even though she ... Show

historical barbarism, are mentally prepared foreshadowing for Medea s heinous revenge against his
treachery (tragic end).
I have observed a fair bit of tragic motives dominating the play that I have incorporated in my own
writings. The motives span revenge, or tisis to tragic warners

Although some say that incarcerating people or giving them the death penalty is the only way to
punish criminals, there are alternatives to these such as halfway houses, probation or community
corrections and more. Most of these projects have helped criminals get onto a better path and
rethink their life decisions. There are several ways to reduce crimerates and all of them are
beneficial in one way or another. Imprisonment has been a form of punishment since before the

Descriptive Essay On Cowboys Play
Don t be surprised if u see #57 flying around the field always around the ball making tackles on
Thursday. Wilson is a tackling machine who has a nose for the football. Backup behind Sean
Lee on Will linebacker spot. He s been compared to last year s fourth round pick Anthony
Hitchens, but a better version of Hitchens (which is no knock to Hitchens because he s a good
player.) Athletic and versatile player who uses his length extremely well to avoid blocks off his
body at certain angles that way he can flow towards the ball without getting hung up on blocks.
These are what you call run and chase linebackers. Terrific sure tackler. I m excited to watch him

versatile that he s able to take whatever the coaching staff dishes out to him. Long arms
cornerback who has speed, athleticism, and quickness. Jones can cover athletic tight ends because
of his size, and speed as well as playing tight man coverage while being able to stay with his man.
What I will be looking for during game is how well he will be able to cover these NFL wide
receivers. If he gets beat on a play does he mail it in and continue to get beat? Or does he shake it
off and goes makes a play the next time he s targeted. If I was a betting man I would go with the

Astronomy a Science, Astrology a Pseudo-Science
The word science probably brings many different pictures into your mind, some being: a fat
textbook, white lab coats, microscopes, an astronomer looking through a telescope, a naturalist in
the rainforest, Einstein s equations scribbled on a board, the launch of the space shuttle, bubbling
beakers.... All of those images reflect some aspect of science, but none of them provides a full
picture of what science completely is. Science is defined to be the knowledge attained through
study or practice, or knowledge covering general truths of the operation of general laws, especially
as obtained and tested through scientific methodand concerned with the physical world.
According to the TOK book, astronomy is considered a science and astrology a pseudo science. Do
you agree? Before I start discussing this statement, we should know what science, pseudo science
and astronomy, astrology really is. Science is the pursuit and application of knowledge and
understanding of the natural and social world following a systematic methodology based on
evidence. pseudo science is a concept that is considered to be science but it does not have enough
evidence to go along side with it and prove the concept to be right. Astronomy is a science that
studies everything outside of the earth s atmosphere, such as planets, stars, asteroids, galaxies; and
the properties and relationships of those celestial bodies. Astronomers base their studies on research
and observation. Astrology on the other hand,

Symbolism In Kate Chopin s The Story Of An Hour
There are many phrases in the English language that, when analyzed, don t make sense at all.
For example, the kiss of death is one of these phrases. Typically we think of a kiss as something
nice, a way of affection from a partner, a parent, grandparent, or even friend. So pairing this
joyful word with something that so many people dread is admittedly an odd choice. Used as a
marking of fate, a kiss of death is a concept that seems very taboo, but really this comparison of
light and dark has been used more often than we may think. In Kate Chopin s short story, The Story
of an Hour, she utilizes imagery by using language that is often self contradictory. With her
combination of dark and cheerful imagery, Chopin creates a very uneasy mood throughout the story
that helps to reflect Mrs. Mallards emotional conflict with her physical surroundings.
After Mr. Mallards announced death, Chopin used the sky as a type of symbolic imagery. In a state
of suspension, Mrs. Mallard stood at the open window, looking out at the scenery in front of her
house. As she looked out the window, she saw that There were patches of blue sky showing here
and there through the clouds that had met and piled one above the other, (Chopin 1). In this
example, Chopin uses her imagery to reflect the stress that is being lifted from Mrs. Mallard. Over
the course of her marriage, Louise Mallard had been suppressing these feelings of entrapment,
causing them to build on themselves like the heavy weight

The Second World War Essay
The Second World War The Second World War had three major axis powers. They were
Germany, Italy, and Japan. The Axis were the countries that had expansionist plans. Only Japan
was not a fascist regime in the Axis. Adolph Hitler, the German Nazi leader, was the one who
called upon the creation of an Axis in 1936. Italy and Japan accepted Hitler s offer. Japan
recognized the leadership of Germany and Italy in establishment of a new order in Europe.
Furthermore, Germany and Italy respected Japan s leadership in East Asia. They also agreed that
they would assist each other with political, economical and military means. The main cause of

Introduction
Programming is a skill that is widely specialised in the growing technological environment/market.
There are many programming languages available to the programmer to use. Some of these are
event driven programming and oriented programming language. Within the programming there are
also data types available to the developer which benefits them and the end user.
This report will embrace why different programming languages have been developed. It will also
compare and contrast event driven programming and object oriented programming languages.
Furthermore it will explain the benefit of having data type s available to the programmer.
Why different types of programming languages have been developed
Different programming languages have been developed for many different reasons. A
programming language is a language designed to designate a set of actions to be executed by a
computer. A programming language is therefore a practical way of giving instructions to a
computer to operate. Programs are created to control the behavior of a machine.

Solution-Focused Brief Therapy
Solution Focused Brief Therapy Introduction Solution focused Brief therapy is a postmodern,
constructivist advancement that uniquely focuses on the resolution of the concerns of the client.
It mainly puts an emphasis on facilitating the clients by identifying and prioritizing the solutions.
In short, the solution focused approach is founded on the ground that change can occur over a
brief period of time (Hepworth et.al, 2010). Solution focused Brief Therapy can be represented
by three principal components: Making use of dialogue centered on the apprehensions, concerns,
and fears of the clients Employment of conversations that mainly focus on the co construction of
new denotations that encircle the concerns of the clients Making use of and utilizing certain
techniques for being of assistance to clients in order to enable them co create an image of an
ideal future and to draw upon precedent successes and strengths for their issues resolution
(Franklin et.al, 2012) To cut a long story short, the therapists who practice Solution focused Brief
Therapy follow a very effortless but useful rule i.e. finding out what works and doing more of it
(Kaslow, Massey Massey, 2002). Thus, Solution focused Brief Therapy is really valuable, useful
and efficient as it deals with a good number of problems that clients come up with. It encourages
and offers its clients new ways of thinking regarding their matters. The immediate problems faced
by the clients are solved when they are

Music Techniques In Alfred Hitchcock s Psycho
Psycho
Alfred Hitchcock s iconic film Psycho is one of the best horror movies in history. It is famous as
well as notorious even with today s high standards. The movie is about a secretary, Marion, who
embezzles $40,00 from a client of her employer. She goes on the run and ends up staying at a very
remote and creepy hotel. There she meets Norman Bates, a man who seems to be under a lot of
control of his mother. Marion ends up being murdered in the famous shower scene by Norman s
mother, however, at the end we end up finding out that the mother was actually Norman who had
developed a double personality of his mother. While this movie s story and plot are outstanding
to stay the least, the movie s success also had a lot to do with the sound used within in key
scenes. The sound also helped play a major role in the movie s themes, which I believe to fear, and
guilt.
I think that the music used in throughout the film corresponded with the theme overall in some
way, shape or form. Even at the very beginning of the film, before any scenes take place, we are
given suspenseful music. This is used to convey the over arching theme to the audience right away
to make it obvious that this is the way that they are ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
She thinks that someone could possibly be on to her and following her. As the audience sees this
happening the music starts to become more and more intense to raise the tension within the scene.
To do this they used quick sharper notes and sudden changes in pace and key of the music.
However, once the car takes a different turn, the music stops and the audience is relieved. Another
example, is again when Marion is driving, she is remembering back to the crime that she
committed. In this scene it is obvious that Marion feels very guilty, and the music playing in the
background really helps incorporate that seem tone to the audience

The Transgender Side Of The Lgbt Movement
Throughout American history, numerous influential social movements arose, such as the civil
rights movement, the youth movement, and the animal rights movement. However, one of the
most prominent and rapidly changing movements in the past year, 2015, has been the lesbian, gay,
bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) movement, the advocacy for equal rights between heterosexual
and LGBT individuals. In this year, the LGBT movement made many crucial achievements. Starting
off the year, in February of 2015, the Human Rights Campaign began a movement named the
People s Brief. The purpose of this campaign was to gain nationwide support for the LGBT
movement. The group ended up gaining over 200,000 signatures which was many more signatures
than any other brief ever given to the Supreme Court. The transgenderside of the LGBT movement
also had major successes in 2015. After Caitlyn Jenner came out, the movement changed drastically.
It sparked many transgender people to come out to the media and discuss the inequalities and
violence that trans people face in society. However, perhaps the most important victory for the
LGBT was the legalizing of gay marriage across the country. This event happened on June 26, 2015
when the supreme court declared that denying two people the right to marry, regardless of gender,
is unconstitutional. Even though just a few accomplishments were named, many others occurred
that also had major impacts on the LGBT movement ( Best ). Although in recent months the

granted a title like the Thane brought great honour to your family. How can a brave and loyal

It is just how life works and it has worked like that for many centuries. People are not always
responsible for their actions. Fate vs free will usually decides upon this. Fate can be described
as destiny or in a more realistic way, coincidence. Free will however is the action you
intentionally do. Macbeth s responsibility for the King s murder can be, to some extent can be the
cause of fate vs free will, which is a paradox which keeps reappearing in the play. The witches,
who mysteriously crossed paths with Macbeth and Banquo, was that fate or free will? That can be
considered as fate because if the witches had not crossed paths with Macbeth, he would not have
known the prophecies thus putting the idea that fate drove Macbeth into killing Duncan because if
the witches had not told Macbeth he would be king, Macbeth wouldn t have written a letter to Lady
Macbeth, who will then manipulate him into killing Duncan. These facts can prove that fate may
be the cause of Duncan s death therefore Macbeth wasn t entirely responsible for the murder of

The flowmap denoted $phi_{t,t_{0}}in Diff(R^{N})$ where $Diff(R^{N})$ denotes the group of
diffeomorphisms of $R^{N}$ is defined as a map that takes the initial solution, that is the solution
at $t_{0}$ to the solution at any time $t$, this can be expressed mathematically by
egin{center}
$phi_{t,t_{0}}: Y_{t_{0}}longmapsto Y_{t}$ end{center} That is to say, given any initial data
$Y_{0}in R^{N}$, the solution $ Y_{t}$ at any later time can be easily specified. This can be
done by applying the action of the flowmap to the initial data $Y_{0}$ in order to
$Y_{t}=phi_{t,t_{0}} circ Y_{t_{0}}$.
Consider a function $fin Diff(R^{N})$, by using the chain rule, we obtain
$ frac{d}{dt}(f(Y))=V(Y).partial_{Y} f(Y)$
This means that action of the vector fields on $Diff(R^{N})$ is as first order partial differential
operators since $V(Y).partial_{Y} f(Y)$ is considered as first order partial differential operators.
vspace{0.5cm}
The evolution of $fcircphi_{t}$ is given by
egin{center}
$ frac{d}{dt}(fcircphi_{t})=Vcirc fcircphi_{t}$ end{center} The above equation is an autonomous
linear functional differential equation for $fcircphi_{t}$. Such equation has a solution
$fcircphi_{t}=exp(tV)circ fcircphi_{t}$ as $phi_{0}=id$
Setting $f=id$ provides the representation of the flowmap as follows
egin{center}
$phi_{t}=exp(tV)$ end{center} Hence, in this considered case, the flowmap is the exponential of
the vector field. By compositing the above equation

M.P., INDIA. ABSTRACT: In this paper a watermarking method with contrast enhancement is
presented for digital images. Digital Watermarking is a technology which is used to identify the
owner, distributor of a given image. If the watermarked images is low contrast poor visual quality or
due to poor illumination in some imaging system, the contrasts of the obtained images are often
needs to be improve. In recent years, digital watermarking plays a vital role in providing the
appropriate solution and various researches have been carried out. In this paper, an extensive
review of the literature related to the color image watermarking is presented together with contrast
enhancement by utilizing an assortment of techniques. This method outperforms other present
algorithm by enhancing the contrast of images well without introducing undesirable artifacts.
KEYWORDS: Watermarking, Histogram equalization, CLAHE, CAHE, PSNR, MSE. I.
INTRODUCTION DIGITAL image watermarking has become a necessity in many applications
such as data authentication, broadcast monitoring on the Internet and ownership identification.
Various watermarking schemes have been proposed to protect the copyright information. There are
three indispensable, yet contrasting requirements for a

The Differences and Similarities of the Ottoman Empire and...
While taking the class of Early Modern European History there was two states that really stuck out
and peaked my interest the most. They were the Ottoman Empire and Early Modern Europe. If you
compare and contrast both the Ottoman Empire and Early Modern Europe during the 16th Century
through the 18th Century, you will see that there are a number of similarities as well as differences
when you look at the expansion of the states. You will also see many of these contrasts as well
when you look in terms of each states military and commerce. Although the Ottoman Empireexisted
before the 16th century and continued to exist past the 18th century and in great decline until the
early 20th century, when looking at the state as a whole the time... Show more content on

Also, there is such a thing called supply and demand, and the consumer chooses what is needed or
wanted. This article also signified the evolution of the English economy of moving away of
mercantilism capitalism. Both the articles had a significant impact on the societies of each state.
Perhaps the greatest comparisons can be made in how the two states expanded, grew, and changed
point of view within the time period. The second comparison point would be what role religion
played in to the time period, with the scope of the protestant uprising in the late 15th century and
the change in what citizens perceived the role of god and religion in society. Also important with
this is the role that the Millet system played within the Ottoman Empire specifically when
overtaking new lands and expanding. The third comparison point revolves around the economy and
taxation habits of both states, looking closely at the mercantile, trade, Industrial Revolution, and
taxation. Lastly, you can also look at the fall or change of both great states through important events
and how those events shaped their futures in many ways. Though the end of the 18th century and
the Battle of Vienna didn t mark the end of the Ottoman Empire, it did note the start to the downfall
of the great state. With the same token, the French Revolution marked another change and
progression from Early Modern Europe to

Costa Rican Mountains
A View Of The Mountains Just a little farther! This is the last steep hill! I think... A collective
groan of relief came from behind me as my group started up one of the last steep sections of our
trail up the beautiful, Costa Rican mountain. Our guide, Riza, the mother of our mission group s
host family, gave the rest of the group a smile. You volunteered to climb a mountain! What d you
expect? I seemed to be the only one who was actually enjoying the rewarding exercise. The crisp
mountain air and occasional breeze felt refreshing as I trudged up the path, being careful to
avoid holes and wondering what sights lie ahead. As I reached the crest, I looked at the path
before me. While the last section was the steepest of our recent stretch of the mountain, it was by
no means the last steep hill we would encounter. I stood up straight and did a quick stretch as I
looked around, taking in the scenery around me. It was unlike any view I had ever seen. As far as
the eye could see, within the large, terraced field which was bordered by large foliage, there were

A few white tailed deer bounded this way and that, while birds sang overhead. It was truly
beautiful, but not as beautiful as the view that awaited us down the road. Just a few minutes
down that path, right before it trailed back into the forest, I could literally see for miles. What
lie before me were the fields of coffee on the sides of the mountain. Behind this were
neighborhoods of cream stucco with their brick red ceramic or bright, tin roofs. The cityscape
was unlike any I had seen; instead of rising up, like they do in America, it sprawled out
organically. The city mingled with the greenery in such a way that the homes seemed as if they
belonged there. I was struck by how different the landscape of this beautiful country was compared

people. This could be through emailing, calling, or meeting with an elected official to discuss the
issues at hand. Little a advocacy calls for changes on a personal level, or for changes in

Drug Trafficking Persuasive Speech
A 16 year old boy named Jimmy went to a party for one of his fellow classmates party. Little did
he know what was gonna be at the party. He showed up and had been having a good time until he

was appalled that somebody in his grade and so young be doing those things and how in the world
could they even get them. Well that is from drugtrafficking. Drug trafficking is a illicit trade
involving the cultivation, manufacture, distribution and sale of substances which are subject to
drug prohibition. Drugs are brought into the U.S. every day, so much that it s become almost

Recycling As Puerto Rico s New Economy
Puerto Rico s Economy
Before we delve into the viability of recycling becoming Puerto Rico s economy of the future it is
imperative to understand the current status of the commonwealth s economy. Puerto Rico is
currently experiencing an economic crisis. In the midst of a 10 year recession, it is now $72
billion in debt. The unemployment rate is currently 11.8 compared to 6.6 in Alaska, which has the
highest unemployment rate of any state. The island also has a poverty rate twice that of America s
poorest state, Mississippi. In a CNN Money article titled Why Puerto Rico s economy is in a death
spiral by Patrick Gillespie the author explains that despite Puerto Rico having a similar population
to that of Connecticut, 3.5 million, it carries the same debt load of New York State, 20 million.
Gillespie believes that the problems stem from massive government overspending, a big
dependence on debt and a costly, inefficient energy system. The Puerto Rican government has not
been able to grow the economy for years leading to a rise in unemployment, business moving away
from the island, and Puerto Ricans moving the United States for employment opportunities. Unlike
other islands in the Caribbean, Puerto Rico imports crude oil to generate electricity for its
residents, which results in a very costly process. Other islands are using a combination of solar and
wind power, along with natural gas and oil. The introduction of

Abolishment In Frankenstein
Despite how extravagantly different the creation scene is in Shelley s novel compared to what is
presented on screen, there is little to say on the subject. As already mentioned in the introduction,
the tradition of exuberant, showy creation scenes didn t begin with the original
textit{Frankenstein} (1931), but with the 1910 edition, where it lends half of its runtime to the
conjuration of the monster. Each iteration of Frankensteinthereafter copies this extravagant method
of portraying the creation scene, and as they do so, knowledge of Shelley s minimal description is
lost. First, we must explore why her version of events isn t inclusive of the embellishment and
indulgence on screen.

In Shelley s text, the scene consists of a few ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Yet he acknowledges that this moment is not one to celebrate, and thus compensates for this using
other methods, turning the showy scene from a contradiction to a juxtaposition that emphasises the
monstrosity of not only the monster, but Victor s actions in creating it: First, the monster lunges
from a great copper sarcophagus filled with water to make it a kind of womb. After he lands
sprawling in the spill tank under it, Victor lifts him up, vainly tries to show him how to walk, then
ties him standing to a set of chains. But when the struggling creature is struck by a falling piece of
wood and shortly goes limp, Victor concludes that he himself has killed this luckless heir to massive
birth defects. and that this evil must be destroyed...forever. footcite{James Heffernan, Looking at
the Monster: Frankenstein and Film pp.143} This departure from the novel highlights Victor as a
more paternal figure than the text implies, making a point of the undercurrent of dread the scene
should evoke, yet contrivedly conveying Victor s repulsion at the creature in this scene, Victor is
less repulsed by the creature, as Shelley s text strongly emphasises, but more toward his own
actions. It is only when Victor wakes up to the sight of the lumbering creature in the next scene
does he cry out No! . This decision creates a confusing tone where it could initially be
misconstrued by the audience that Branagh s Victor is merely startled by the presence of a monster
he had presumed dead, muddling up the message of Victor s regret and of the repercussions of
rebirth that Shelley intends on

Paying Attention To Children Research Paper
A person s childhood has an enormous impact on the person they become when they grow up.
Because of this, it is essential that do our best to give our children the best childhood that they can
have in order to nurture successful adults. One way we can do this is by giving children the
attention they need. In 2010 the average amount of time that parents spent with their children each
week was 13.7 hours (Schulte). This must change because paying attention to children is essential
for a number of reasons. First, paying attention to children improves the quality of the childs

The Power of the People Anarchic, civil, radical, militant, and rebellions people is what police

the government. During the Vietnam War, citizens were protesting against the U.S government to

The Apartheid regime and term apartheid in South Africa was introduced in 1948 as a part of
Daniel Francois Malan s election campaign. The apartheid system was a type of racial
segregation introduced in South Africa in 1948, resulting in the majority of Blacks in South
Africa being refused basic human rights, whilst whites were living in a time of white supremacy
. It included laws such as the Population Registration Act 1950, the Reservation of Separate
Amenities Act 1953, and the Immorality Act 1950. These laws severely limited the rights of
blacks. The apartheid system forcefully suppressed any resistance, such as at Sharpeville on
March 21 1960, when 69 blacks were killed, and the Soweto Riots 1976 77, when 576 people

the number of outlets, and focuses the product more to its main target market. The advantage is that

The shocked and flabbergasted diction of this section lends itself to a similar purpose. The
surprise that the narrator shows when Luo initially begins the procedure is indicative to the fear
within the protagonists and the absurdity of the situation as a whole. When the narrator says:
what the devil had got into him? (Sijie 142) it shows the reader that the strangeness of the scene
had not escaped the notice of those involved. The befuddled diction continues when the narrator
says: even today it confounds me (Sijie 142) showing that the situation his oddness was not
reduced with time. Overall, this section sets the scene for an intense and decisively odd
situation. In the second section of this passage, the author uses a horrific imagery and tone, as
well as a fearful diction to show the narrator s impending sense of dread as he comes to realize
that his repressed hate is rearing its head. When headman is put into the vulnerable position of the
operation, the tone of the piece darkens and creates foreboding and menace. When the drill is in
the patient s mouth, the narrator describes the noise made as dreadful gurgling (Sijie 143) and
uses words such as juddered (Sijie 143) and trembled (Sijie 143) in describing the movement of the
headman. This dark tone foreshadows the emergence of the narrator s sadistic

phenomenon, and the help provide a solution for this growing

Similarities And Differences Of Banquets In The...
Research Paper
Have you ever wondered how banquets from the Elizabethan Era are similar and different from
today s era? Everyday life in the Elizabethan Era was amazing; however, banquets and inventions
were the same as how we live today. This paper will explain the different events and similarities
and differences from now and the Elizabethan Era .
In the Elizabethan Era there were many big feasts and festivals. Some feasts were for the queen
and many other royals .These banquets and feast were very different from today. The average
family in the 21st century eats one meal; however in the Elizabethan Era people ate five different
course meals at their banquets and feasts. Some of the foods that were served: a quarter stag, a

In Elizabethan Era their audiences in their theater were filled like some of our movie theaters
today. Their performances were mostly given in the afternoon. Except in this century people mostly
go to movies at night time. Their movies would last two or three hours just like today s theater.
At some of these theater shows in the Elizabethan Era there were many different artist. Queen
Elizabeth even made up some of the arts herself. Some of the artist that painted portraits of Queen
Elizabeth was Hans Holbein, and Nicholas Hillard. Hillard painted a mini portrait of Queen
Elizabeth in 1952. Hillard painted most of his portraits from Henry s courtiers .Most of these
paintings were brought before Queen Elizabeth at these banquets and feasts that were held. These
two artists got their ideas from the European Renaissance.
In the painting that Hillard painted in 1572, he painted Queen Elizabeth in a piece of clothing they
called a ruff. The Elizabethan Era clothing style is something you wouldn t see anyone wearing in
the 21st century. In the 2000s people wore jeans and shirts and casual jackets. In the Elizabethan
Era women wore gowns, corsets, and ruffs. Men wore doublets, breeches, and ruffs as

Edna And Her Husband In Chopin s The Awakening
Edna and her husband, LГ©once, have a marriage that lacks affection and adventure. Edna
personality is much different than what was expected of the typical New Orleans woman of that
time. She is more independent, outgoing, and bold than the women of her time, which is something
that LГ©once does not necessarily see as acceptable for his wife. He expects Edna to partake in the
normal practices of New Orleans women of the time, despite Edna s countless expressions of
distaste. Her marriageto her husband is lifeless and loveless and in many ways what is lacking in
her marriage to LГ©once is one of the main reasons Edna begins her awakening. Her lackluster
marriage begins her search for something more fulfilling, something that will allow her to
express her true self, her true desires, in a way that she has not been able to before. Edna sees her
marriage to her husband as a sort of end her her life of youthful passion and a beginning to a more
mature life of responsibility.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is when she meets Robert Lebrun. Robert is a single, 26 year old man with whom Edna
finds much interest. Robert s relationship with Edna is a very integral part of Edna s awakening.
Although Robert has a known history of courting a different woman, many times who are
married, each summer at Grand Isle, there is something different about his relationship with
Edna. It is Robert s delicate treatment of Edna that shows that there is something more than
simply the superficial, flirty actions he has had with the women of his past. It is when Robert
himself realizes that his feelings have surpassed far beyond those with past women on Grand Isle
that he decides to leave for Mexico. Robert leaves Edna because he knows that no matter how
strong and true his affection his for her, he will never be able to act on his feelings because of her
marriage to

Kana Satake Alternate Ending
Kana Satake walked leisurely with a bag of groceries in one hand and her other hand resting on
top of a large baby bump. She was almost due for conception, in two weeks in fact. She rubbed
her belly absentmindedly as she thought about the possibilities. Would it be a boy or a girl?
Raiden wanted it to be a boy but Kana wouldn t mind if it was a girl. She already had a son named
Renma. Whatever genderit was she supposed, she would lovethem all the same. Her mind wandered
to other thoughts as she continued to walk home not even noticing the oppressive heaviness in the
air and the now deserted streets. A low growl resounded through the air and pulled Kana from her
thoughts. Now sensing the danger that was looming nearby, she looked around warily.... Show more

A Rhetorical Analysis Of Edward Murrow s Speech
In any type of society, speeches have a great impact on the public audience and their views on
different issues. Especially in a dystopian world, sometimes what the people need is a speech to
give them hope and motivation to encourage them to fight for what they believe in. Living in a
dystopian society in Great Britain, V struggles against the government and delivers a well though
out speechto the general public to address his main concerns. In a similar yet distinct way,
American Journalist Edward Murrow also directs a message through a radio broadcasting of his
opinions on the use of television in society. Both speeches bring revolutionary perspectives to light
and highlight the relevant problem the people are facing in that world.

towards the government: I know you were afraid. V uses a rhetorical and persuasive approach with
the use of pathos, connecting to the audience s feelings when he acknowledges their fear of
competing against the government. Comparably, Murrow also persuades his own audience by
directly calling upon their efforts to see the importance of knowledge: let us exalt the importance of
ideas and information. Murrow has a confident tone that is utilized to coerce the audience into
thinking that information is something that is crucial to a part of their everyday

live in a world that we can gain access to countless terabytes of information right at our fingertips.
Many of the popular social media platforms like Facebook, Twitter, and Reddit contribute to the

growing addiction to the internet? Let s look at this with the social media perspective using
Kantianism and Act Utilitarianism. Internet addiction falls in five specific subcategories:
Computer addiction, continuous online gaming, Information overload, inevitable web
searching, Net compulsions, excessive online gambling or shopping, Cyber sexual addiction,
extreme use of adult websites, and Cyber relationship addiction, attachment of online dating
websites. We all live in a world of internet of things, meaning every device we use or mostly
every device is connected to each other. Living the Amish way of life nowadays is very difficult
to complete day to day tasks. First of all, the basics, the internet we use every day in our lives
serves a purpose. That purpose may be work related or for pleasure. Identifying the purpose of
internet use can lead us to what specific internet technology consumes most of our time. The
hardest part of the process is identifying the problem, once you identified the problem, there are
many ways to find solutions to the problem. Before we dig deeper, we can ask

Why Is Albert Einstein Important In American History
Albert Einstein once said, Education is what remains after one has forgotten what one had learned
in school (brainyquote.com). Albert Einstein was a scientist who strongly believed in the
importance of education and knowledge and worked so that the entire world could know more
about what s around them. Albert Einsteinis important in American history because of his many
scientific discoveries and some of his efforts during World War 1.
Firstly, Albert Einstein was born in Ulm, WГјrttemberg in Germany on March 14, 1879 to parents,
Hermann Einstein and Pauline Koch along with his younger sister Maja Einstein (biography.com).

The General Theory of relativity is also one of these accomplishments, this theory explains that
massive objects cause a distortion in space time, which is felt as gravity

energy and mass are interchangeable (biography.com). Along with his many accomplishments
Albert Einstein had many rough times in his life, in 1930 Einstein s son was diagnosed with
schizophrenia and had a mental breakdown before he died, then in 1936 Einstein s close friend

Pat Conroy s The Lords Of Discipline Essays
Pat Conroy s The Lords Of Discipline
Conroy displays his life through his novel, The Lords of Discipline, to give readers a visual
demonstration of how life connections can transform the entity of a novel. Conroy s attendance to
the Citadel, his family, and the South helped influence his innovative writing style. A lifetime in a
Southern family negated any possibility that he [Will/Conroy] could resign from the school under
any conditions other than unequivocal disgrace (6). Conroy s family held a strong control over his
will to renounce the hardship of the Citadel. A pervasive admiration for his motherruns through the
book as he ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
While Conroy s mother treated him with love, his father abused him both physically and
mentally. Through the book, Conroy mentions the torment he endured by his father s negligence
and lack of support. The Lords of Discipline is not the only book where Conroy mentions the
abuse by his father, like in his other novel The Great Santini, but it is the one where he
incorporates the influence of his father into why he attended the Citadel. Being raised in the
South, with a long standing and proud heritage, makes it difficult for Conroy to bow down and
accept the control of the Citadel. His rejection of their norms and expectancies can be seen
throughout the book as Will McLean s refusal to participate in the continual abuse of innocent
plebes, and his apathetic emotions displayed about the school in front of his peers, while on the
contrary he feels a deep and passionate love for it. I did not participate in the rituals of the plebe
system. Cruelty was easier to forgive than forget (109). Conroy s deep connection to the South
allowed him to see first hand the different treatments given to those of the upper classes and the
African Americans. By making the main character, Will McLean, non racist, Conroy innovates an
idea that had been repressed at the

The Angel Of Death By Alane Ferguson
The Angel of Death Reaction The book The Angel of Death by Alane Ferguson is an intense and
gripping story due to its mystery and action in the book. The book is mainly about a mysterious
death surrounding the main character s favorite teacher with no leads or cause of death. The
book keeps you engaged by adding things that you least expect about the case as the book goes
on. Some positives or likes I had while reading are as follows below. One like I had about the
book was the description of the murder. The eye sockets were empty. (pg. 43) This helps you
envision the body, how they found it in the book. Another like I had with the book is, She
bought a car, Cam. She s left New York. (pg.73) The aspect of her long lost mother rushing to see
her the entire story adds more suspense. The last thing I enjoyed about the book is, Kyle s hand
reached in front of her and snapping it shut with a small click. (pg.232). I like the end how Kyle is
the killer, a twist I think no one expected.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One dislike I had with the book was some of the romance that lasted too long on page 128. It was
also mostly awkward the whole time, like when Kyle said weird stuff like, Your hand is so

predictable that Cammie s mom would save her in the end. The last thing I disliked in the book
was the character of the deputy in the book, Kill two birds with one stone. You can be the birds,
she murmured wanting him to fly away. I m the stone. He was just there in the book and just gets
denied by Cammie and really does nothing

High School Dropout Research
Growing Trends in High School Drop outs
One of the major concerns of education is the rate of students who are dropping out of school.
Statistically, the dropout rate has decreased from a national average of 15 percent in 1972 to 10
percent in 2003, according to the National Center for Education Statistics, which rated 16 24 year
olds (Child Trend, 2003). Though, there has been signs of a decrease, drop out rates continue to be
a concern to the public because of the potential consequences and financial costs to the government.
On the academic level, many schools are incapable of handling the new faces in the education
realm. Thus, it forces many students to leave school without a diploma. The drop out rates appears
to be an ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A concern of the statistical data of high school dropouts is the disparaging number of minority
students who drop out of high school in comparison to whites and Asians. A 1993 research by John
Hopkins University flagged 2,000 high schools across the country as potential dropout factories
because 40 percent or more of their freshmen fail to make it to 12th grade on time (Viadero,
2004). These schools are in medium and bigger size cities and have a significant black and
Latino student population. Florida is the one exception, where many of the failing students are
rural white. In 2003, it was estimated that 6 percent of whites, in comparison to 12 percent of
blacks had dropped out of school (Child Trend, 2003). The primary reason appears that these
school districts have a variety of disadvantages, such as resources and money to improve schools
and programs. These schools are located in lower socio economic communities. However, these
disadvantaged students are judged on the same achievement standards as students who live in
higher economic districts with better resources and tools. Latin Americans constitute the highest
percentage of high school dropouts. 24 percent of Latin Americans dropped out of school in 2003
(Child Trends, 2003). This is a significant number because there are just as many Latin Americans
dropping out of school as whites. Yet, Latin Americans represent slightly above 15 percent of the
population. The

Young Men During World War I in the Novel, All Quiet on...
In the novel All Quiet on the Western Front, Erich Remarque discusses themes including
patriotism, honor, bravery, and war. He explains how each topic relates to the lives of nineteen
year old young men during the first World War. In the novel, All Quiet on the Western Front,
Remarque either supports or rejects these topics by illustrating them in the soldier s daily lives.
Each of the characters confronts the four main themes throughout their wartime experience.
Remarque feels that these men should not have to show bravery in war, however, bravery is
possibly the most important of the major themes in the novel. During the story, each of the
characters have a moment in which bravery was a large key factor that helped them survive the
war. Although Remarque believes that bravery in war is not necessary for the young men, he
does believe that standing up to people who have ruled over you with cruel power is a necessary
act of bravery. In the book it says, We seized the bed cover, made a quick leap, threw it over his
head from behind and pulled it round him so that he stood there in a white sack unable to raise
his arms. The singing stopped. The next moment Haie Westhus was there, and spreading his
arms he shoved us back in order to be first in. He put himself in position with evident satisfaction,
raised his arm like a signal mast and his hand like a coal shovel and fetched such a blow on the
white sack as would have felled an ox. (Page 48) This quote shows

Theme Of Voyeurism
Alexis Dygert
Professor Novak
Introduction to Film Studies
November 1st, 2017
Voyeurism: Helping to Solve Murders Since 1954 Alfred Hitchcock has always been known for his
suspenseful and action filled films. His 1954 production of the movie Rear Window is no
contradiction to that. Throughout Rear Window, many different motifs and themes are splayed out
for the audience to dwell upon. One well seen theme is voyeurism. Within the movie, the audience
is challenged with this theme, and left with the uncertainty about the power of voyeurism. Some
critics believe that Hitchcock even went so far as to use the film as a way to say that us as an
audience has an obsession with watching, which invades the privacy of those around us: voyeurism

Without the camera, some of the events that he would have seen would not be shown.
Furthermore, he categorizes his neighbors by names that he gives to them such as Miss
Lonelyhearts , Miss Torso , and Songwriter / Piano Man from their daily activities that he
observes through is watching and looking through his camera lens. As said by Seth M. Blazer, a
writer for the Midwest Quarterly, A camera is used to bring a killer to justice in Rear Window
(Rear Window Ethics, 384). However, the idea of watching stems a lot further than just staring out
a window or peering through a lens.
Given what has been stated, the claim being made is that voyeurism is ultimately a good thing.
Without voyeurism, how are we to know who is the good or evil within our society? However,
this also speaks for us as an audience. For instance, Jeff is a stand in for us in the film. He is
essentially society and the way we are always infatuated with other people. In most cases, this
would not be a positive aspect. However, within Rear Window, Jeff watching his neighbors is a
good thing. Furthermore, the other residents living in the apartments believe in the positiveness of
watching others too. This is evident throughout the movie, especially in the middle. For example, a
female resident stands upon her balcony and bellows out to everyone You don t know the meaning
of the word neighbor.

Human World Views The Influences of Asia, Africa and the Americas toward Contemporary Society September 13, 2015 The progression of morality as it relates to the influence of family, religion and society varies between Asia, Africa, and the Americas. Our contemporary society has been influenced tremendously in many different areas by these different societies. Social order in Asia was established by Hammurabi s Code of Laws. Hammurabi himself was an Amorite king of Babylon, he set these laws to place order in Babylon. Hammurabi s lex talionus explains that the punishment of a crime should be equal to what crime has been done, these laws are described as an eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth (Levack, B., Muir, E., amp; ... As for the America s in their advanced agriculture system led to modern society s agriculture as well. This system was put to use by Ancient Peru after hunters were in search to consume foods other than meats. Ancient Peru created the spread of corn, cassava, and potatoes (Adas, 1992), this resulted in the growth population in the Americas, because people who only had access to cassava were able to eat this new thing called corn. This sense of spreading food is similar to how we can get Florida oranges, and Georgia peaches to Delaware, by trade. Lastly, Contemporary society and the Americas both served as a melting pot for existing civilizations. People of many descents migrated to the Americas in search of something new, and today people from other countries migrate to the many states of America to start a new life with new opportunities. Once all the newcomers came and got settled in the Americas, a defined culture had set in as well, which was different from the rest. Today you still hear people refer to our American culture across many different areas of life. In comparison to all of the societies mentioned above, each one has contributed to modern American culture in the subjects of literature and art. • 3. Community For My Old Volunteer Group Community for me, is feeling connected, accepted, and at home. It is where everyone is working together for a mutual cause, and having fun doing it. It is not so much a place to me, as it is a feeling. I can go to any town, city, or community but it does not necessarily take a place in my heart as much as the sense of community I have experienced before. What other place to find community than my old volunteer group, ironically called FOCUS on Community. FOCUS is an organization whose mission is to reach out to the people of our community, like teens and families, to prevent substance abuse, smoking, alcoholism, and even to help families that are already dealing with these issues. My favorite program was the F.A.S.T. program Families And Schools Together because I worked one on one with people and really saw that we were making a difference in these people s lives. At the time I first volunteered for F.A.S.T. I did not realize exactly what I was doing, I merely signed up because I wanted to help out in some way. However, I soon realized that we truly were bringing these families closer. We gave them a safe environment with dinner and activities, and a chance every week to have one on one time with the child of their choice. This helped them solve arguments and build stronger and closer relationships with children who are having a rough time. Another place where I felt an immense sense of community was Italian Fest. The second part will discuss a comprehensive definition of the field of public administration, and the third part is the predictions about the field of public administration, and the opportunities and threats faced by it. The focus of the paper is the organizational framework. • 6. Price Gouging In The United States The idea of price gouging can have many different perspectives on it, and is very controversial. Price gouging is when a seller spikes their prices of goods, services, or other purchase products to a level higher than reasonable. Ethically, I do agree with the fact that merchants shouldn t sky rocket their product prices during a state of emergency price gouging. Illegally, price gouging is continuing to affect our labor market and offset the cost of living in many states. Price gouging is continuing to affect the health of many people due to pharmaceutical companies and their major increases in price. Lastly, price gouging just is unjust, immoral, and against the law in states. While there are no federal regulations to price gouging and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Price gouging occurs when a merchant drastically raises their prices on daily necessities. When setting cities living wage and cost of living, the cost of daily necessities plays a role. Cost of living is the amount of money needed to sustain a certain level of living, including basic expenses such as housing, food, taxes and health care. A book called The fundamentals of minimum wage fixing by Francois Eyraud and Catherine Saget talks brief about cost of living and how it is incorporated into minimum wage. The authors gave different ways on how the cost of living is determined. According to the two, they shared that the cost of living is determined by the price of goods (standard necessities to live), and wage statistics submitted by the United States Department of Labor (Eyraud, Saget, 2005). Both living wage and cost of living differentiates by state and cities. Cost of living effects how the government set the nations minimum wage. When merchants continuously raise prices of daily necessities and they are unreasonable, it can affect the cost of living. To prevent this trickle down effect, the United States government should create federal regulations on price gouging to prevent an increase in cost of living which then leads to an increase in minimum wage, which then leads to possible jobs ... • 7. Criticism Of Medea I cannot find one reason for divorcing theatrics from history why must history wear such a dry cloak of dullness? I love theatre and you see its profound effects in my writing especially tragedy. History is dramatized through speeches and conversations among the characters I portray, so much that people have coined the term tragic history to encapsulate my works, in which I proudly claim ownership. Euripedes has been thought to be a mediocre playwright but nonetheless determinedly produces more plays. I have long admired his tenacity in being an innovator amidst a scene that constantly subjects him to ridicule. With my status as a tragic historian as some may put it, I am in an informed position to critique this play. My belief is that people accord him with less recognition than he actually deserves, and I genuinely appreciate the ingenious tragic elements he incorporates to distinguish Medea from other mainstream tragedies. As a historian and a Greek citizen, nomos is a concept close to my heart. Before the play, Medea was portrayed as a ruthless witch renowned for her sorcery and deception. Even though she ... This only mounts her fury towards him, and readers, fully aware of Medea s historical barbarism, are mentally prepared foreshadowing for Medea s heinous revenge against his treachery (tragic end). He s been compared to last year s fourth round pick Anthony Hitchens, but a better version of Hitchens (which is no knock to Hitchens because he s a good player.) Athletic and versatile player who uses his length extremely well to avoid blocks off his body at certain angles that way he can flow towards the ball without getting hung up on blocks. Astronomy a Science, Astrology a Pseudo-Science The word science probably brings many different pictures into your mind, some being: a fat textbook, white lab coats, microscopes, an astronomer looking through a telescope, a naturalist in the rainforest, Einstein s equations scribbled on a board, the launch of the space shuttle, bubbling beakers.... All of those images reflect some aspect of science, but none of them provides a full picture of what science completely is. Science is defined to be the knowledge attained through study or practice, or knowledge covering general truths of the operation of general laws, especially as obtained and tested through scientific methodand concerned with the physical world. According to the TOK book, astronomy is considered a science and astrology a pseudo science. Do you agree? Before I start discussing this statement, we should know what science, pseudo science and astronomy, astrology really is. Science is the pursuit and application of knowledge and understanding of the natural and social world following a systematic methodology based on evidence. pseudo science is a concept that is considered to be science but it does not have enough evidence to go along side with it and prove the concept to be right. • 11. Symbolism In Kate Chopin s The Story Of An Hour There are many phrases in the English language that, when analyzed, don t make sense at all. For example, the kiss of death is one of these phrases. Typically we think of a kiss as something nice, a way of affection from a partner, a parent, grandparent, or even friend. So pairing this joyful word with something that so many people dread is admittedly an odd choice. Used as a marking of fate, a kiss of death is a concept that seems very taboo, but really this comparison of light and dark has been used more often than we may think. In Kate Chopin s short story, The Story of an Hour, she utilizes imagery by using language that is often self contradictory. With her combination of dark and cheerful imagery, Chopin creates a very uneasy mood throughout the story that helps to reflect Mrs. Mallards emotional conflict with her physical surroundings. After Mr. Mallards announced death, Chopin used the sky as a type of symbolic imagery. In a state of suspension, Mrs. Mallard stood at the open window, looking out at the scenery in front of her house. As she looked out the window, she saw that There were patches of blue sky showing here and there through the clouds that had met and piled one above the other, (Chopin 1). In this example, Chopin uses her imagery to reflect the stress that is being lifted from Mrs. Mallard. Over the course of her marriage, Louise Mallard had been suppressing these feelings of entrapment, causing them to build on themselves like the heavy weight ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Only Japan was not a fascist regime in the Axis. Adolph Hitler, the German Nazi leader, was the one who called upon the creation of an Axis in 1936. Italy and Japan accepted Hitler s offer. Japan recognized the leadership of Germany and Italy in establishment of a new order in Europe. Furthermore, Germany and Italy respected Japan s leadership in East Asia. • 16. Music Techniques In Alfred Hitchcock s Psycho Psycho Alfred Hitchcock s iconic film Psycho is one of the best horror movies in history. It is famous as well as notorious even with today s high standards. The movie is about a secretary, Marion, who embezzles $40,00 from a client of her employer. She goes on the run and ends up staying at a very remote and creepy hotel. There she meets Norman Bates, a man who seems to be under a lot of control of his mother. Marion ends up being murdered in the famous shower scene by Norman s mother, however, at the end we end up finding out that the mother was actually Norman who had developed a double personality of his mother. While this movie s story and plot are outstanding to stay the least, the movie s success also had a lot to do with the sound used within in key scenes. The sound also helped play a major role in the movie s themes, which I believe to fear, and guilt. I think that the music used in throughout the film corresponded with the theme overall in some way, shape or form. The Transgender Side Of The Lgbt Movement Throughout American history, numerous influential social movements arose, such as the civil rights movement, the youth movement, and the animal rights movement. However, one of the most prominent and rapidly changing movements in the past year, 2015, has been the lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) movement, the advocacy for equal rights between heterosexual and LGBT individuals. In this year, the LGBT movement made many crucial achievements. Starting off the year, in February of 2015, the Human Rights Campaign began a movement named the People s Brief. The purpose of this campaign was to gain nationwide support for the LGBT movement. The group ended up gaining over 200,000 signatures which was many more signatures than any other brief ever given to the Supreme Court. The transgenderside of the LGBT movement also had major successes in 2015. After Caitlyn Jenner came out, the movement changed drastically. It sparked many transgender people to come out to the media and discuss the inequalities and violence that trans people face in society. However, perhaps the most important victory for the LGBT was the legalizing of gay marriage across the country. This event happened on June 26, 2015 when the supreme court declared that denying two people the right to marry, regardless of gender, is unconstitutional. Even though just a few accomplishments were named, many others occurred that also had major impacts on the LGBT movement ( Best ). Although in recent months the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

After he lands sprawling in the spill tank under it, Victor lifts him up, vainly tries to show him how to walk, then ties him standing to a set of chains. It is only when Victor wakes up to the sight of the lumbering creature in the next scene does he cry out No! . A boy named Luo and an unnamed narrator who are put through the difficulties of being forced into another way of life. . In pages 142 144 the headman of the village the protagonists are staying in comes to arrest the narrator for telling forbidden western tales. The befuddled diction continues when the narrator says: even today it confounds me (Sijie 142) showing that the situation his oddness was not reduced with time. Overall, this section sets the scene for an intense and decisively odd situation. In the second section of this passage, the author uses a horrific imagery and tone, as well as a fearful diction to show the narrator s impending sense of dread as he comes to realize that his repressed hate is rearing its head. When headman is put into the vulnerable position of the operation, the tone of the piece darkens and creates foreboding and menace. When the drill is in the patient s mouth, the narrator describes the noise made as dreadful gurgling (Sijie 143) and uses words such as juddered (Sijie 143) and trembled (Sijie 143) in describing the movement of the headman. A 1993 research by John Hopkins University flagged 2,000 high schools across the country as potential dropout factories because 40 percent or more of their freshmen fail to make it to 12th grade on time (Viadero, 2004). These schools are in medium and bigger size cities and have a significant black and Latino student population. Florida is the one exception, where many of the failing students are rural white. In 2003, it was estimated that 6 percent of whites, in comparison to 12 percent of blacks had dropped out of school (Child Trend, 2003). The primary reason appears that these school districts have a variety of disadvantages, such as resources and money to improve schools and programs. These schools are located in lower socio economic communities. However, these disadvantaged students are judged on the same achievement standards as students who live in higher economic districts with better resources and tools. Latin Americans constitute the highest percentage of high school dropouts. 24 percent of Latin Americans dropped out of school in 2003 (Child Trends, 2003). He explains how each topic relates to the lives of nineteen year old young men during the first World War. In the novel, All Quiet on the Western Front, Remarque either supports or rejects these topics by illustrating them in the soldier s daily lives. Each of the characters confronts the four main themes throughout their wartime experience. Remarque feels that these men should not have to show bravery in war, however, bravery is possibly the most important of the major themes in the novel. During the story, each of the characters have a moment in which bravery was a large key factor that helped them survive the war. Although Remarque believes that bravery in war is not necessary for the young men, he does believe that standing up to people who have ruled over you with cruel power is a necessary act of bravery. In the book it says, We seized the bed cover, made a quick leap, threw it over his head from behind and pulled it round him so that he stood there in a white sack unable to raise his arms. The singing stopped. The next moment Haie Westhus was there, and spreading his arms he shoved us back in order to be first in. One well seen theme is voyeurism. Within the movie, the audience is challenged with this theme, and left with the uncertainty about the power of voyeurism.
