Role Of Of The Jain Religion
Shoshana Pollack
April 19 2015
RLST:1620003 Final Paper
The Role of Women in the Jain Religion
The Jain tradition was born in India, a small but powerful religion that grew up alongside Buddhism
and Hinduism. Like the other religions of India, Jainism teaches that when the body dies, the soul
(known to the Jain as a jiva) is reincarnated. Eventually, through living religious lives, the soul will
reach realization, the end of the process of death and rebirth. In his piece Fundamentals of Jainism,
Champat Rai Jain explains that, within the Jain tradition, the path of salvation consists in Right Belief,
Right Knowledge and Right Conduct, called the three Jewels ( Jain, 7.) One must know and
understand the Jain tradition, believe what it is saying, and act in accordance with those beliefs. In
order to conduct his or herself properly, a person of the Jain tradition must follow five vows. The most
central statute of the Jain religion is the vow of Ahimsa, which means non injury. The religion places
great emphasis on the 4 other vows as well, Satya (speaking only the truth) Asteya (taking only what
is given,) Brahmacharya (chastity) and Aparigraha (non possession.) (Kinsey, lecture 3/7.) The Jain
religion, while similar in some ways to Hinduism and Buddhism, is in many ways very unique. The
respect that Jainism holds for all life is entirely it s own. In his writing on Jainism, The Jain Tradition,
Vasudha Narayana explains the importance of the Jain saying Ahimsa

Comparing The Landlady And The Monkey s Paw
Many Stories show various literary elements in their text to add more detail to and context to the plot.
The Landlady and The Monkey s Paw is a perfect example that displays these elements. In The
Landlady , A businessman named Billy Weaver looks for a place to stay. He comes across a bed and
breakfast. Little does he know the contents inside that building are unthinkable. The story The
Monkey s Paw has just as much suspense. A family, the Whites, are visited by Sergeant Major Morris.
They talk about a preserved monkey paw that holds magic. The son, Herbert, is doubtful but the
parents believe that the paw may have some potential. They are warned that the paw will have
consequences along with the wishes granted. In The Landlady and The Monkey s Paw the author uses
the characterization of unusualness and sarcasm, foreshadowing death and evil consequences, irony
dramatically and verbally, the tone of darkness and deviousness, and an unsettling and anxious mood
to add details to the story. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For example, the landlady was unusual, suspicious ,and stalkerish. The story says, he hadn t even had
time to time to take his finger from the bell button the door swung open and a woman was standing
there. Since there was no wait, this shows that she might have been stalking and she is not normal. In
addition, Herbert in The Monkey s Paw is doubtful and sarcastic about the paw s magic being real.
Hebert comments, Well I don t see the money and I bet I never will. This means Herbert is a
pessimistic and doubtful kind of character. Including characterization, these two stories also have

The Chocolate War And An Absolute Diary Of A Part Time Indian
When people think about tribalism, they usually associate it with a strong possession of a cultural or
ethnical identity. Tribalism can take many forms. For example, it can refer to popular culture in which
people are exhibiting loyalty to their social group. Certainly, there are positive and negative
perspectives to either side. When reading The Chocolate War and An Absolute Diary of A Part Time
Indian, I experienced both sides of tribalism. When, reading An Absolute Diary of A Part Time Indian,
by Sherman Alexie, I saw how the protagonist Arnold was able to gain support from his tribes while
discovering strengths inside of himself that he never knew existed. In comparison, I discovered while
reading The Chocolate War, by Robert Cormier, the protagonist Jerry had the foundations of support,
but it ended up crumbling when he needed the support the most. Why was Arnold able to become an
individual while being a member of numerous tribes, when Jerry s tribes didn t support him for being
an individual?
Jerry, a freshman who comes into Trinity and is able to throw off its balance. He is able to defy the
Vigils and that action alone is huge, because no one has ever dared to defy them before because the
Vigils are their own tribe at Trinity. Jerry is able to disturb the tribe and almost rally supporters behind
him, but it doesn t last very long and Jerry is singled out by the Vigils. Jerry had the football team as
his tribe early on before he was assigned to not sell the

The Message of Hate in Babi Yar Essay
The Message of Hate in Yevgeny Yevtushenko s Babi Yar
There are very few people in the world who are willing to go against the popular trends and do what
they feel in their hearts is correct. But Yevgeny Yevtushenko is one of those people. In his poem Babi
Yar, he tells the story of the modern persecution of the Jews, focusing on atrocities like those of the
massacre at Babi Yar and the pogroms at Beilostok, and also the general anti Semitism that killed men
like Dreyfus and pervades the entire Russian people. The poem uses many literary devices, such as
graphic imagery and contrasts, while painting a very clear picture of the scenes of pure horror.
Babi Yar is written in many different voices, all of which, however, have ... Show more content on

He says that he too must be a Jew for he is afraid of what his people and his society have become.
Many years ago, in the ancient days, it would not be such a shock to see the Jews enslaved in Egypt or
crucified as a means of torture and death, but even in modern times the same things are going on he
still has the marks from where the nails pierced him. The author has used classical examples of Jewish
persecution which every one knows is gone in the physical sense, but show how they still exist in the
theoretical aspect, as the persecution is still occurring.
In the next three stanzas, the poem takes the standpoint of three figures whose stories are pertinent
examples of what Yevtushenko is trying to rely in this poem. First the voice of Dreyfus is used, and
the stanza describes how horribly and unfairly he was treated, and how the country and its leaders
turned their backs on him.
There are two important literary devices used in this section. First the author puts the word pettiness
on a line by itself. This is used as a declaration of what the author feels anti Semitism is based on. It is
because of pettiness that Dreyfus was accused and further because of pettiness that he was not
pardoned when it was proven that he had not committed any crime. The next important device is the
description of ladies with their umbrellas. This is an image to the wealthy

Mexican Restaurant Research Paper
Best Authentic Mexican Restaurants in Little Rock
Everyone has their own favorite type of cuisine. Common favorites range from American, to Italian, to
Chinese, and for me, Mexican. I spent one year in Arkansas at Little Rock and found the best Mexican
restaurant in the area. Currently, I have tried eight different Mexican restaurants, which include both
Tex Mex and Authentic Mexican Restaurants. I picked my top four favorite authentic Mexican
restaurants to review and critique based on price, menu, service, house salsa, and appearance to help
peoples, as future customers, decide which restaurant is the best choice for them.
For all four restaurants none of them are entirely overpriced. In terms of bang, buck Riviera Maya is
best option. He/she pay $8 $9 for a quality burrito that he/she can only finish about half of. Taqueria
Karina Cafe is pricier, but for the amount of food a person get and how fantastic the quality is, it is
worth the few extra dollars compared to the other restaurants. Senor Tequilas is very cheap, but the
customers pay for what they get which is a smaller portion of food at a lower quality. Lastly, El Porton
was $8 for a 6 inch quesadilla which I would ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

cream, and a tomato. As a customer and reviewer I cannot judge the taste of food on appearance at
Mexican restaurants. Although the moment I saw Taqueria Karina and Riviera Maya s food I knew it
was going to taste heavenly, just by how full and even overflowing the plates were. El Porton knows
how to spice up a website to attract customers, but do not let fool the customers. The food does not
look like this in the restaurant. Most online reviews rave that for the price Senõr Tequilas has great
drinks, and they do look phenomenal. That cannot be said for their food. They do not even post photos

An Open Letter to Roderick Nash on Island Civilization Essay
A man named Robert Laughlin once said, The Earth is very old and has suffered grievously: volcanic
explosions, floods, meteor impacts, mountain formation and yet all manner of other abuses greater
than anything people could inflict. Yet, the Earth is still here. It s a survivor. Laughlin clearly believes
in this quote that the Earth can take care of itself. The Earth has been through worse disasters than just
pollution, and extinction of species and plants. Roderick Nash, an environmentalist and activist, says
otherwise. In Nash published an essay, Island Civilization: A Vision For Human Occupancy of Earth
in the Fourth Millennium, that clearly shows his negative view in humanity. He discusses the history
between humans and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Environmentalists worry so much about the well being of the planet for merely the human species
survival. Things such as natural disasters, which reasons.org say Part of that response acknowledges
that the forces behind these natural disasters play a critical role in Earth s capacity to support life. If
people are so concerned about the planet, then people should realize that these natural disasters
actually help the Earth regenerate itself. Without these natural disasters , the planet would not be how
it is today. As Nash continues to criticize humans, he states, ...capitalist driven culture in its cancer like
tendency to self destruct. Pollution and destruction of wildlife is a problem, but it is something that
can be fixed, or having Earth fix itself. Nash is saying that humans are destroying the planet entirely,
which is kind of ridiculous. If people were really destroying the Earth as much as Nash says, Earth
itself would have already gotten rid of people through things like natural disasters, disease, or natural
selection. The Earth will take care of itself and as Tom Haering says, Nature plays no favorites:
Survival of the fittest. Nash begins talking about wilderness, As a starting point let s consider
wilderness. It s a state of mind, a perception, rather than a geographical reality... Consider this, how is

Ms. Kimberly Rich is motivational. She does not fall short of inspiration, just like the other teachers
from whom we have learned in the previous chapters. She has inspired me to implement her classroom
management technique and she encourages other teachers in her school to learn strategies for effective
social skills. I hope I can inspire students and other teachers the way she does. One of the main points
she made was her classrooms management system. I am planning to use this method in my teaching

The Fight For Equal Marriage
The fight for equal marriage rights has been one of great length. Although this topic only brought to
attention of the Supreme Court in 2015, gay marriage has long been a topic of interest in American
society. Prior to 2015, gay marriage was only acknowledged and legal in select states, not nationwide.
This caused great distress and heartache. One case in particular, the case that was brought to the
supreme court, is very representative of such dejection. The subjects of such case are James
Obergefell and John Arthur of Ohio. In 2013, the two were legally married in Maryland. Shortly after,
however, Mr. Arthur grew terminally ill, and eventually passed away. Due to Ohio state laws, the state

Hodges 40 41). Based off of these cases, there has clearly been great perplexion as to how
homosexuality should be viewed and treated. Which leads to the controversy of gay marriage, and
Obergefell v. Hodges.
Obergefell v. Hodges was the Supreme Court case of 2015, which ultimately granted equal marriage
rights to same sex couples. Obergefell was arguing in favor of equal marriage rights, while Hodges
had an opposing argument. This case was brought to the Supreme Court after the state of Ohio refused
to put a married status on the death certificate of James Obergefell s late husband in 2013. Theodore
Wymyslo, James Obergefell s defendant in the original Ohio case, appealed the ruling against
Obergefell, which led to the case being pushed to higher courts throughout 2014, eventually reaching
the Supreme Court in 2015 (LGBT Rights on the Docket). In the Obergefell v. Hodges case,
Obergefell s side discussed topics such as the expansion of marriage and gay rights, the due process
clause of the Fourteenth Amendment, and the undeniable rights associated with marriage in their
argument. Hodges side, however, had much weaker arguments, such as same sex marriages will ruin
the reputation of marriage, and religious views are conflicting of the premise of same sex marriage.
Taking a more extensive look into both sides of this case proves to be very interesting and thought
provoking.
Oberefell s first argument was that marriage has

My Friend As A Friend
As a child growing up you meet many people that you like. Everyone tends to make your day from the
kind stranger whom gave you a dollar at the grocery store to your neighbor that lets you pet their dog.
As I ve gotten older I ve grown to love people more than like. Moreover, I have made many long term
friends and continue to do so. I ve always been a social person so making good quality friends has
never been a problem. As my mom would say, I have never met a stranger. Now that I am a freshman
in college and making more friends than ever. Although I ve only been here for three weeks, I have a
large circle of friends that I like very much. Since then, the circle has gotten smaller. Now, there is one
person that I do like the most, Vanessa Rodgers.
In fact, Vanessa is one of my twelve close friends that I have made since I first got to Grambling State
University. Since being her friend I have learned that she is also from my hometown, Houston, Texas.
Vanessa is the opposite of me on the surface but we do share very many similarities. Besides our place
of origin, we re also very sarcastic and hilarious. Our friends and strangers alike say that we re good
people to be around. Always making someone laugh or if you ever need a friend to talk to, Vanessa is
the person I call on. She has a very high pitch squeaky voice that makes everything she say sound so
much better. Everyone gets tickled every time she opens her mouth to speak. Vanessa always has to

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Die Casting
1. Hot tear is an irreversible failure or crack formed in casting. It is commonly related to the
inadequate compensation of solidification shrinkage by melt flow with the occurrence of thermal
stresses. Controlling the right pouring temperature, prevention of rapid changes in section and
consistency in cooling rates can be done as remedies to this phenomenon.
2. Die Casting is a manufacturing process that can create geometrically complex metal parts by using
conveniently reusable molds that are commercially referred to as dies.
Processes:
 Clamping clean the earlier injection and then apply oil to ease the application of the next process
 Injection manage the temperature for the molten metal in the furnace in preparation for its delivery

7. A sprue ought to be tapered in order to minimize if not prevent the occurrence of vortex. It can be
used to scatter the kinetic energy of the dropping stream and avoid splashing and turbulence as the
metal is subjected to spinning in the runner.
8. Defects of die casting are as follows:
a. Shrinkage defects happens when thick metal hardens because of the unavailability of standard feed
material.
b. Gas porosity bubble formation present on the cast after cooling process.
c. Mold shift commonly happens at the final line when parts of the cast are misassembled.
d. Rough surface finish phenomena wherein too much fluidity of the metal is occurs and hard pouring
takes place.
Usage of proper mold of sad, perfect placement of feeders and uniform pattern alignment are ways on
how these abovementioned defects can be prevented.

Theory of Charles Chesnutt s Technique in The Wife of His Youth
From the time they arrived on slave ships, continuing for centuries, African American s were at the
mercy of white men in America. They had little to no control over their own lives, and they had no
voice to communicate their agony. Despite the fact that slavery ceased, the lives of black men,
women, and children improved very little. Writing was one of the very few ways that African
American s could release the frustrations of their maltreatment. When their writings were finally
published, their voices broke ground and boldly crossed racial lines. One of the first African American
s to accomplish this courageous feat was Charles Chesnutt. Although Chesnutt s ... Show more content

Although whites undeniably made life very difficult for African Americans, Chesnutt knew that
placing blame would be ineffective, and forceful or authoritative techniques would miss the mark. For
this reason, Chesnutt skillfully and subtly... wove a delicate pattern of racism and the inhumanity of
slavery through his stories, avoiding the commonly stereotypical battle between the heartless master
and the rebellious slave, [Chesnutt] captured the true injustice (Wintz, Black Culture 56). His
technique was deliberate yet gentle, compelling but subtle.
Chesnutt did not place blame on the whites outright, but strategically acknowledged the problem
within his own race. Wintz, also the author of Race and Realism in the fiction of Charles W. Chesnutt,
acknowledges that among black culture, there were emotional and highly explosive subjects of
racism...racial distinction and prejudice within the black community itself ( Race and Realism 126).
And Chesnutt skillfully utilizes the unfortunate conflict as a tool to deliver his message. Instead of
writing directly of the injustices blacks endured under the hands of white men, he writes from the
critical view of racism among blacks, pitting light skinned blacks against dark skinned to gain
sympathy, while avoiding a defensive response from the white audience.
In The Wife of His Youth, Chesnutt writes of a prestigious Blue

Hot Crisis: 2007 present
With electronics chains CompUSA and Circuit City already struggling even before the brunt of the
economic slowdown, larger retailers such as Wal Mart and Target saw an opportunity to grab a piece
of the lucrative electronics business. Wal Mart, for example, greatly expanded its selection of high
definition televisions and home theater systems. This not only threatens Best Buy s market share, but
applies some price pressure to Best Buy s high margin items. This seems to be a textbook example of
why a market leader cannot sit on its laurels even when it appears to be the dominant player. Now that
other tough competition has entered, Best Buy relies on its unique customer service features to
continue to bring in shoppers.
As the U.S. economy has slowed, bringing consumer spending down with it, nearly every retailer has
felt some pain. Best Buy has managed this crisis better than its most similar competitors, considering
that the slowdown all but killed Circuit City and CompUSA. Nevertheless, Best Buy s stock fell 16%
from December 2007 to February 2008, and has fallen another 12% since then, while low cost retail
leaders such as Wal Mart have benefited as consumers seek out the lowest possible price for everyday
necessities. Best Buy s

Normative Development
In the latter part of the 19th century, psychology began to separate from its previous philosophical
standing, emerging more as a scientific discipline. Abstract laws were devised, and objective and
quantitative measurements of isolated variables analysed. Theories of development emerged and have
continued throughout history, providing organization, and a lens through which researchers can
interpret and explain any number of specific facts or observations (Sigelman amp; Rider, 2012, p. 32).
In postulating what is seen as normative development, these theories provide a model or map from
which science and society are largely influenced.

The revolutionary thinking of Sigmund Freud and his psychoanalytic approach of the early 1900 s
challenged existing human nature and development and inspired offshoot theories that continue to be
applicable to healthy development in modern day society. Bandura s social cognitive theory, for
example, was devised in response to Freud s philosophy regarding the conscience (Peterson, 2010).
Bandura s theory asserts that individuals will behave similarly across the lifespan through modelling
or imitation. This behaviourist based theory explains human behaviour in terms of a reciprocal
interaction between cognitive, behavioural and environmental factors (Sharf, 2012). In observing
other people, the learner pays attention to and perceives the other model, constructs and remembers
the behaviour, and retrieves and reproduces this behaviour subsequently, dependent on motivating
factors (Archer amp; McCarthy 2007). An individual is said to be motivated internally, as in achieving
a personal goal, or vicariously, when the learner observes the consequences of the behaviour in the
model.
In his parameters for healthy development, Bandura gives no credibility to collective stages, rather
offers the process as being gradual and continuous in a generation of learning (Sigelman amp; Rider,
2012). Principles of learning can be seen to operate throughout life, and can be used to describe

My Love Short Story
I always thought that I did not need anyone but myself. A black and white world with only myself in
it. I never really cared for anyone; if I did they would be a family or a close friend. Anything romantic
was always thrown out of the window. I did not want to think about love or even pay attention to it.
That all changed when I fell in love. It changed my whole world and how I viewed it. It is not just
liking someone and being in a relationship; love is so much more than that. Love is a wonderful
feeling. Love took me to places I have never been before; it taught me a lot about myself; it is a wild

It all started when I first met him. At the time, I did not think more than our growing friendship. We

similarities and differences. I would often laugh at how predictable he is sometimes. Our differences
on the other hand did not hinder our relationship. I found it interesting how he could talk and it would

Greek And Roman Gods In Greek Mythology

mythology have different names in many ways I believe they are alike.
One of the most famous gods in Greek mythology is Zeus. Built with muscle and smarts Zeus is the
Greek god of Mount Olympus. Zeus is Responsible for, keeping order and ruling over all the Greek
gods (Gill, 2014). With the mighty weapon of the thunderbolt Zeus controls the skies. It might not be a
reputation that most people would pride them self s of having but Zeus was openly known for his

side there is the also the god know as Jupiter. Just as Zeus Jupiter is built with muscle and smarts with

The International Civil Aviation Organization
1. Introduction A conference was initiated by the US President Franklin D. Roosevelt in 1944, in
which all the allied powers as well as some neutral governments convened at Chicago to discuss the
future of civil aviation. The expectations from this conference, which came to be known as the
Chicago Convention, were high even though the timing of the convention wasn t perfect. The Chicago
Convention proposed the formation of the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO), which
later became a part of the UN in 1947. The ICAO contains universal rules covering airspace

Fifty four countries attended the Chicago conference and although it did not quite achieve all of its
goals, it did provide the groundwork for the founding of the ICAO in 1947. The Soviet Union was
invited to the conference but did not attend. Many of the countries which the Allies were at war
Germany, Japan, Austria, Hungary, Romania, Bulgaria, Italy and Finland were not invited and were
not represented but it was the absence of the USSR which was mainly felt as the USSR represented
the largest land territory of the world and were expected to play an important role in after war
arrangements. This negative attitude of the USSR was perhaps a sign of the cold war mistrust and
isolation and that the secretive USSR was not ready to open its air space to international cooperation.
The official reason given for the non participation though was that among the nations taking part in
the conference, there were some countries like Switzerland, Spain, and Portugal which for a number
of years have carried on a hostile policy towards the Soviet Union. 3. Outcomes of the Convention
The atmosphere of the conference was one of uncertainty and some anxiety, which was felt by all

Magna Carta Vs Japan
Although Japan and Europe are on the opposite sides of the world, the Middle Ages and Shogun Japan
had similar histories.
During the Middle Ages, the King performed as a head leader for his country but without his knights
and nobles, he wouldn t have anyone to protect him or the kingdom. He conquered all the rules until
the Magna Carta was signed in 1215. The Magna Carta, also known as the Great Paper, was a list of
rights from his barons. King John was the one who signed the document. Before the Magna Carta was
signed, King John would promise anything to anyone if there was money included and also raised the
taxes whenever he wanted, but this was against the law of England. From the start of Magna Carta, the
Kings and Queens could only do what was on the Magna Carta and they were not allowed to make up

ruled mainly by a succession of shoguns (highest ranking warriors). The Japanese believed that their

he was regarded as a direct descendant of the sun goddess, Amaterasu. She was one of the creators of

Comparison Between Hamlet And Aristotelian Tragedy
Aristotle describes tragedy as beginning of a staid deed, that is total and of high degree.

Plato s Euthyphro, Socrates And Euthyphro Essay
In Plato s Euthyphro, Socrates and Euthyphro had a conversation about piety. During the conversation,
Socrates raised a question which was a challenge to the Euthyphro s definition of piety. Also, this
question is a challenge to the theists view of divine command theory. I agree with the arbitrariness
objection which succeeds giving a good reason to theists to reject the divine command theory. This
objection indicates that the arbitrariness of God s commands contradicts to the fundamental attribute
of God, and God s commands are unable to make an act morally good or bad.
Socrates asked Euthyphro about the definition of piety and impiety. Euthyphro attempted a couple of
times to answer Socrates question, and he finally defined piety as the pious is what all the gods love,
and its opposite, what all the gods hate is the impious (Reeve and Miller 58). Then, Socrates
responded to Euthyphro by asking him a question which was also the challenge; Socrates asked, is the
pious loved by the gods because it s pious? Or is it pious because it s loved? (Reeve and Miller 58).
This question not only gives Euthyphro a challenge to his definition of piety, but it also challenges the
theists view of commands of God. In Socrates question, there are two interpretations about the
commands of God. One interpretation is the divine command theory, this theory is that whatever god s
commands equal to the moral goodness; wrong acts are wrong because god prohibits them, and good
acts are good

Anthony Burgess A Clockwork Orange Linguistic Differences in the Film and Novel A Clockwork
Orange, written by Anthony Burgess, is experienced differently as a novel than it is as the movie
directed by Stanley Kubrick. The heart of the difference between the two forms is expressed by
Bakhtin: The potential for [ double voiced discourse between the author and narrator] is one of the
most fundamental privileges of novelistic prose, a privilege available neither to dramatic nor to purely
poetic genres (Bakhtin, 320).1 An entire dimension of the novel s story is lost in the movie when Alex

happening when Alex says, you may, O my brothers, have forgotten what these mestos were like,
things changing so skorry these days and everybody very quick to forget, newspapers not being read
much neither (Burgess 1). On one level, Alex says these words to comment on the way society is
going. He presupposes his audience has a basic familiarity with his world. He reminds his audience
what sort of mestos the milk bars were, but does not need to explain what a mesto is. On another level,
Burgess uses this moment to give the reader some indication of the setting. Through this commentary
of Alex s, the reader s subconscious mind is able to pick up on the fact that time has passed for Alex
since the events of the story took place. This difference in time between action and narration is
resolved with the controversial twenty first chapter, where Alex looks back at his younger days and
the way he spent his time, and feels bored with it. At the same time, the reader detects some trace of
an unstable social and political situation around Alex. The audience Alex is addressing with the
familiar O my brothers is different from the audience which Burgess is addressing the readers of his
novel. While the readers of Burgess novel are also the audience of Alex s story, Alex does not

The Piano Sonata Op.35 No.2, By Johann Sebastian Bach Essay
Macdonald believes in the individuality of the keys. Moreover, in the history of the keyboard music,
the work developed by Johann Sebastian Bach during the Baroque period entitled, The Well Tempered
Clavier, is harmonically and musically substantial since he uses a pedagogical way to state the
individuality of each key signature; he demonstrates a preference for sharps rather than flats. He
chooses F sharp in both books of preludes and fugue. In the second movement of the Piano Sonata
Op.35 No.2, the Scherzo is written in the key of E flat minor. However, Chopin ends this movement in
the relative key with a G flat major chord. The key of G flat is closely related to the Key of B flat
minor as the relative key of E flat minor, which is the subdominant of B flat minor. Musical Analysis
and Performance Chopin wrote three piano sonatas: Sonata Op. 4 No. 1 in C minor, Sonata Op. 35 No.
2 in B flat minor, and Sonata Op. 58 No. 3 in B minor. Scholars agree with the idea that Chopin had a
sort of appreciation for minor keys in this type of work. Also, these sonatas are examples of Chopin s
interest in the older tradition of the large forms. Chopin demonstrated acceptance of the traditional
concepts of the sonata form. For instance, he uses double bars and repeats marks at the close of the
exposition. The Sonata Op.35, No. 2 in B flat minor was composed in 1839 in France but, the third
movement of this sonata was composed and played separately in 1837. This sonata

Essay about The Remains of the Day by Kazuo Ishiguro
The Remains of the Day by Kazuo Ishiguro
Postmodern literature has its many spokesmen. Many would agree that Kazuo Ishiguro is not the most
typical representative of this somewhat anarchistic literary and social movement, but he is certainly
one of its most subtle and valuable artists. He uses the principles of post modernistic writing in a very
meaningful way, and only after a thorough analysis can one fully appreciate all carefully constructed
and presented elements trough which he successfully delivers his story. Remains of the day, as a
novel, is a unique example of how a story of a personal fate of one man can reflect on such large,
historical and social scale.
Above all other motifs, the one of history, especially personal, ... Show more content on

The intention is revealing its artificiality. An abundance of blank spaces , puns and irony serves as a
constant reminder of the fact that postmodern writers do not attempt to create an illusion of reality, but
quite the opposite. By emphasizing the actual body of a novel as a construct, they, more or less
successfully, attempt to provoke an inner dialogue, a discussion between the reader and the writer, or
the narrating character. The reality, claims the postmodern fiction, is already irreversibly compromised
and altered by the cognitive mechanisms and even more so, the language itself. In this novel, the use
of the language is to reveal the character behind it, although at the beginning it is a weapon Stevens
uses to disguise the truth. The style Stevens uses, particularly his formal tone and the choice of certain
words (bantering) excellently present his character. Often he even repeats some phrases, or sentences,
word by word. However, Ishiguro himself is rather reluctant of making the techniques he applies too
visible and obviously revealed in his writing. He states:
[F]or me, while the nature of fiction or fictionality are things that writers might need to be concerned
with to get on with their work, I don t believe that the nature of fiction is one of the burning issues of
the late twentieth century. It s not one of the things I want to turn to novels and art to find out about.

a sense of responsibility among naval aviators. As the BuAer expanded and became a vitally
renowned function in the Untied States, technology, operations, budgets, and strategies all improved.

As a developing civilian pilot and a future naval officer, naval air power is the most significant aspect
of the Navy. Since naval air power developed after numerous ship to ship altercations, it is believed
that the ideas of naval air power developed from the theories of Alfred T. Mahan. According to
Professor Rubel, the Dean of Naval Warfare Studies at the Naval Warfare College, Naval aviation has
established and developed no separate theoretical basis for either its own justification or employment
(Rubel 64). Alfred T. Mahan strategies ranged from having complete and utter control of all
movements across the sea, to having a large Navy that is capable of controlling and using force to
either preserve our territories or deter enemies at all costs. Naval air power piggy backed off of Alfred
T. Mahan s theories and strategies, and eventually composed three naval air power operations that
seize, maintain, and exercise command of the sea/air (Rubel 64). Whether these operations are through
long distance missile attacks, bombardments, or even land based amphibious attacks with the Marine
Corps, NAVAIR has developed technology that allows the United States to be the world s most

Autistic Observation
The writer is hoping to carry out an observation and engage with 3 children who have Autism and
assess how they engage with iPads in the classroom compared to a lesson with no iPads. Thomas
(2013) opinionated that Observation is one of the most important ways of collecting data in social
research. During the observation the writer will be taking notes, taking pictures and perhaps even short
videos. These will all help the writer when it comes to analysing it and to write the observation up.
The writer intends to observe 3 Autistic children in a school setting. From this method of research, this
will provide me with Qualitative data. According to Mason (2002),Qualitative data is focused on
methods of data generation which are flexible and sensitive to the social context in which data are
produced . The writer is hoping to observe a P3 child in a mainstream school, ... Show more content

From carrying out such research there are many ethical issues that the writer must be aware of. The
writer must store all the data in a password protected folder on the computer so that the data is kept
secure and confidentially. The data that has been collected will only be used for the intended purpose
and not used for anything else. With the data all being stored on the computer, the writer must take
extra care as it can be lost very easily and will prove hard to retract. Once the final copy has been
written all evidence of data must be destroyed. To ensure that schools can keep the school and
participants anonymous, the schools and children s names must not be used but can use a brief

Essay about Labour Market Inflexibility in Europe

Labour market inflexibility in Europe is the main reason why Europe is not as dynamic an economy as
the United States
In not more than 2500 words and not less than 1500, critically discuss the above statement.
Introduction
Today labour markets in Europe and the USA are often compared and discussed. The general view
seems to be that the US has a more dynamic economy, people tend to believe Europeans are worse off
than
Americans. The main reason given for Europe lagging behind the USA economically is Labour market
inflexibility other reasons why the
European Economy is not as ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The advent of the Euro was claimed to make labour markets more flexible. As top economist Michael
Burda said, My predication is that unless an improbable miracle occurs in pan European collective
bargaining, labour markets will become less flexible in the future Cited www.cepr.org/press.
Ten years on and we still have the same problem that Europe does not seem to be flexible enough to
provide an adequate rival to the world superpower the USA. Whilst there appears to be general
agreement that increases in flexibility are necessary to increase the competitiveness of European
Economies, there is no such consensus about what constitutes a flexible labour market Adnett, (1996).
For a long time now Europeans have been told they need to make their labour markets more like the
USA, in the USA things tend to be much more flexible when it comes to hiring and firing . However
many
Europeans do not want a system like that in the USA, as put in an article from The Economist, on
European Unemployment, ...many Europeans reject the American hire and fire model, arguing that it
means wide income inequalities and dismantling the welfare state Neighbourly
Lessons (2002).
Other reasons why Europe is not as dynamic an economy as the USA
Inflexible labour markets is just one of the reasons why

BEAAssociates: Enhanced Equity Index Funds
On the afternoon of July 13, 1992, Messrs. Jeffrey Geller and David DeRosa, derivatives portfolio
managers at BEAAssociates, were considering alternative ways of investing the assets of a new $100

Immigration Pull Factors
The West during the 1800 was seen as a better place for a future, the American dream. People
migrated because of push and pull factors. Push factors cause people to leave home and can include
war, no freedom of religion, danger, few job or education opportunities. While pull factors draw
people to a new country because it is the opposite of what is occurring back home, what they seek.
Immigrants are often motivated by both factors. Beginning in the late 1800s, more than 30 million
Europeans came to America to escape from push factors and were attracted to the freedom America
granted and job opportunities. Push factors that caused the immigration was the poverty they had to
face, loss of land, unemployment, and persecution based on one s

  • 2. Role Of Of The Jain Religion Shoshana Pollack April 19 2015 RLST:1620003 Final Paper The Role of Women in the Jain Religion The Jain tradition was born in India, a small but powerful religion that grew up alongside Buddhism and Hinduism. Like the other religions of India, Jainism teaches that when the body dies, the soul (known to the Jain as a jiva) is reincarnated. Eventually, through living religious lives, the soul will reach realization, the end of the process of death and rebirth. In his piece Fundamentals of Jainism, Champat Rai Jain explains that, within the Jain tradition, the path of salvation consists in Right Belief, Right Knowledge and Right Conduct, called the three Jewels ( Jain, 7.) One must know and understand the Jain tradition, believe what it is saying, and act in accordance with those beliefs. In order to conduct his or herself properly, a person of the Jain tradition must follow five vows. The most central statute of the Jain religion is the vow of Ahimsa, which means non injury. The religion places great emphasis on the 4 other vows as well, Satya (speaking only the truth) Asteya (taking only what is given,) Brahmacharya (chastity) and Aparigraha (non possession.) (Kinsey, lecture 3/7.) The Jain religion, while similar in some ways to Hinduism and Buddhism, is in many ways very unique. The respect that Jainism holds for all life is entirely it s own. • 3. Comparing The Landlady And The Monkey s Paw Many Stories show various literary elements in their text to add more detail to and context to the plot. The Landlady and The Monkey s Paw is a perfect example that displays these elements. In The Landlady , A businessman named Billy Weaver looks for a place to stay. He comes across a bed and breakfast. Little does he know the contents inside that building are unthinkable. The story The Monkey s Paw has just as much suspense. A family, the Whites, are visited by Sergeant Major Morris. They talk about a preserved monkey paw that holds magic. The son, Herbert, is doubtful but the parents believe that the paw may have some potential. They are warned that the paw will have consequences along with the wishes granted. In The Landlady and The Monkey s Paw the author uses the characterization of unusualness and sarcasm, foreshadowing death and evil consequences, irony dramatically and verbally, the tone of darkness and deviousness, and an unsettling and anxious mood to add details to the story. ... • 4. The Chocolate War And An Absolute Diary Of A Part Time Indian When people think about tribalism, they usually associate it with a strong possession of a cultural or ethnical identity. Tribalism can take many forms. For example, it can refer to popular culture in which people are exhibiting loyalty to their social group. Certainly, there are positive and negative perspectives to either side. When reading The Chocolate War and An Absolute Diary of A Part Time Indian, I experienced both sides of tribalism. When, reading An Absolute Diary of A Part Time Indian, by Sherman Alexie, I saw how the protagonist Arnold was able to gain support from his tribes while discovering strengths inside of himself that he never knew existed. In comparison, I discovered while reading The Chocolate War, by Robert Cormier, the protagonist Jerry had the foundations of support, but it ended up crumbling when he needed the support the most. Why was Arnold able to become an individual while being a member of numerous tribes, when Jerry s tribes didn t support him for being an individual? Jerry, a freshman who comes into Trinity and is able to throw off its balance. He is able to defy the Vigils and that action alone is huge, because no one has ever dared to defy them before because the Vigils are their own tribe at Trinity. The Message of Hate in Babi Yar Essay The Message of Hate in Yevgeny Yevtushenko s Babi Yar There are very few people in the world who are willing to go against the popular trends and do what they feel in their hearts is correct. But Yevgeny Yevtushenko is one of those people. In his poem Babi Yar, he tells the story of the modern persecution of the Jews, focusing on atrocities like those of the massacre at Babi Yar and the pogroms at Beilostok, and also the general anti Semitism that killed men like Dreyfus and pervades the entire Russian people. Many years ago, in the ancient days, it would not be such a shock to see the Jews enslaved in Egypt or crucified as a means of torture and death, but even in modern times the same things are going on he still has the marks from where the nails pierced him. The author has used classical examples of Jewish persecution which every one knows is gone in the physical sense, but show how they still exist in the theoretical aspect, as the persecution is still occurring. In the next three stanzas, the poem takes the standpoint of three figures whose stories are pertinent examples of what Yevtushenko is trying to rely in this poem. First the voice of Dreyfus is used, and the stanza describes how horribly and unfairly he was treated, and how the country and its leaders turned their backs on him. There are two important literary devices used in this section. First the author puts the word pettiness on a line by itself. This is used as a declaration of what the author feels anti Semitism is based on. It is because of pettiness that Dreyfus was accused and further because of pettiness that he was not pardoned when it was proven that he had not committed any crime. Obergefell was arguing in favor of equal marriage rights, while Hodges had an opposing argument. This case was brought to the Supreme Court after the state of Ohio refused to put a married status on the death certificate of James Obergefell s late husband in 2013. Theodore Wymyslo, James Obergefell s defendant in the original Ohio case, appealed the ruling against Obergefell, which led to the case being pushed to higher courts throughout 2014, eventually reaching the Supreme Court in 2015 (LGBT Rights on the Docket). In the Obergefell v. Hodges case, Obergefell s side discussed topics such as the expansion of marriage and gay rights, the due process clause of the Fourteenth Amendment, and the undeniable rights associated with marriage in their argument. The Chicago Convention proposed the formation of the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO), which later became a part of the UN in 1947. Many of the countries which the Allies were at war Germany, Japan, Austria, Hungary, Romania, Bulgaria, Italy and Finland were not invited and were not represented but it was the absence of the USSR which was mainly felt as the USSR represented the largest land territory of the world and were expected to play an important role in after war arrangements. This negative attitude of the USSR was perhaps a sign of the cold war mistrust and isolation and that the secretive USSR was not ready to open its air space to international cooperation. The official reason given for the non participation though was that among the nations taking part in the conference, there were some countries like Switzerland, Spain, and Portugal which for a number of years have carried on a hostile policy towards the Soviet Union. 3. • 31. Plato s Euthyphro, Socrates And Euthyphro Essay In Plato s Euthyphro, Socrates and Euthyphro had a conversation about piety. During the conversation, Socrates raised a question which was a challenge to the Euthyphro s definition of piety. Also, this question is a challenge to the theists view of divine command theory. I agree with the arbitrariness objection which succeeds giving a good reason to theists to reject the divine command theory. This objection indicates that the arbitrariness of God s commands contradicts to the fundamental attribute of God, and God s commands are unable to make an act morally good or bad. Socrates asked Euthyphro about the definition of piety and impiety. Euthyphro attempted a couple of times to answer Socrates question, and he finally defined piety as the pious is what all the gods love, and its opposite, what all the gods hate is the impious (Reeve and Miller 58). Then, Socrates responded to Euthyphro by asking him a question which was also the challenge; Socrates asked, is the pious loved by the gods because it s pious? Or is it pious because it s loved? (Reeve and Miller 58). This question not only gives Euthyphro a challenge to his definition of piety, but it also challenges the theists view of commands of God. In Socrates question, there are two interpretations about the commands of God. One interpretation is the divine command theory, this theory is that whatever god s commands equal to the moral goodness; wrong acts are wrong because god prohibits them, and good acts are good ... • 36. The Piano Sonata Op.35 No.2, By Johann Sebastian Bach Essay Macdonald believes in the individuality of the keys. Moreover, in the history of the keyboard music, the work developed by Johann Sebastian Bach during the Baroque period entitled, The Well Tempered Clavier, is harmonically and musically substantial since he uses a pedagogical way to state the individuality of each key signature; he demonstrates a preference for sharps rather than flats. He chooses F sharp in both books of preludes and fugue. In the second movement of the Piano Sonata Op.35 No.2, the Scherzo is written in the key of E flat minor. However, Chopin ends this movement in the relative key with a G flat major chord. The key of G flat is closely related to the Key of B flat minor as the relative key of E flat minor, which is the subdominant of B flat minor. Musical Analysis and Performance Chopin wrote three piano sonatas: Sonata Op. 4 No. 1 in C minor, Sonata Op. 35 No. 2 in B flat minor, and Sonata Op. 58 No. 3 in B minor. Scholars agree with the idea that Chopin had a sort of appreciation for minor keys in this type of work. Also, these sonatas are examples of Chopin s interest in the older tradition of the large forms. Chopin demonstrated acceptance of the traditional concepts of the sonata form. For instance, he uses double bars and repeats marks at the close of the exposition. The Sonata Op.35, No. 2 in B flat minor was composed in 1839 in France but, the third movement of this sonata was composed and played separately in 1837. This sonata ... Many would agree that Kazuo Ishiguro is not the most typical representative of this somewhat anarchistic literary and social movement, but he is certainly one of its most subtle and valuable artists. He uses the principles of post modernistic writing in a very meaningful way, and only after a thorough analysis can one fully appreciate all carefully constructed and presented elements trough which he successfully delivers his story. An abundance of blank spaces , puns and irony serves as a constant reminder of the fact that postmodern writers do not attempt to create an illusion of reality, but quite the opposite. By emphasizing the actual body of a novel as a construct, they, more or less successfully, attempt to provoke an inner dialogue, a discussion between the reader and the writer, or the narrating character. The reality, claims the postmodern fiction, is already irreversibly compromised and altered by the cognitive mechanisms and even more so, the language itself. In this novel, the use of the language is to reveal the character behind it, although at the beginning it is a weapon Stevens uses to disguise the truth. The style Stevens uses, particularly his formal tone and the choice of certain words (bantering) excellently present his character. Often he even repeats some phrases, or sentences, word by word. However, Ishiguro himself is rather reluctant of making the techniques he applies too visible and obviously revealed in his writing. He states: [F]or me, while the nature of fiction or fictionality are things that writers might need to be concerned with to get on with their work, I don t believe that the nature of fiction is one of the burning issues of the late twentieth century.
