diagnoses. Her vital signs were stable and the physical exam revealed only moderate TTP of the
RUQ and epigastric region. The lab results revealed no leukocytosis, no elevation of liver
enzymes, bilirubin, amylase, lipase, alk phos or any other signs of cholecystitis, cholangitis,
pancreatitis or other potential signs of infection. The plan of care began with keeping the patient
NPO. This is recommended as this keeps the patient from further pain secondary to food
stimulating gallbladder contraction.5 It also allows the patient to be prepared for surgery if
urgent cholecystectomy is required. The next step was beginning IV normal saline to keep her
well hydrated. After this we began to give her medication through the IV including Zofran for her
nausea. Zofran is an effective anti emetic and there were no contraindications for use in this
patient. We also gave her Morphine 2 mg IV for pain control. Opioids are an effective option for a
patient with significant biliary colic.6 Although NSAIDS are another option for pain control, PUD
was part of the differential diagnosis so NSAIDS were not an appropriate therapy. We ordered an
abdominal ultrasound as this is the diagnostic test of choice for cholelithiasis. The ultrasound
revealed multiple gallstones in the gallbladder, some mild gallbladder thickening, and some
dilatation of the common bile duct. At this point we consulted GI who scheduled the patient for
MRCP in the morning in order rule out choledocholithiaisis. We also consulted the surgery team

The Other Place By Mary Gaitskill And The Last Speaker Of...
The two short stories that I read was The Other Place by Mary Gaitskill and The Last Speaker of
the Language by Carol Anshaw. I was not thrilled by either story and found that they did not keep
my interest and failed to entertain me. With both stories, I tended to get lost in the scene or
setting and found myself rereading sections. One of the stories I had to rereading to make sure I
really understood the full story. Two characteristics of a successful short stories are the story tends
to begin and end abruptly and limited number of characters. Using these two stories I will analyze
them to see if they meet the short storycriteria.
The Last Speaker of the Language does not start off as an abruptly as a short story could. The
daughter is on a ladder finding small vodka bottles above her mother s kitchen cabinets, a hiding
place that her mother uses. There is no abruptness within the first two paragraphs. I would think
that an abrupt story would have dramatic changes or some sort of wild tale was starting. Something
that would make the reader say, whoa what is going in here?
The Other Place also started off with a slower start. It did however have a more interesting and
dramatic beginning as The Last Speaker of the Language did. The Other Place first starts off on
how the narrator son, at the age of 13 likes guns and violence. However, its only a short paragraph
and the next paragraph goes into the description of the boy and how he resembles the father at age

Individual rights are a very crucial part of our United States constitution, because whether these
rights are being provided towards a criminal defendant or a victim the goal of our national

In the fields filled with fertile soil and abundant plant life, laborers are often found immersed in
their duties. Whether they show efforts to increase their personal profits or in fear of
retributions from their employers, the laborers work silently for countless hours of the day. The
only interaction available for many of these laborers is the interaction between themselves and
the field itself. Due to this interaction, Robert Frost and Jean Toomer write about how workers
seek to communicate with others in similar situations as themselves in order to gain comfort.

Throughout our study we investigated the relationship between secondary and primary
psychopathy and cognitive empathy. Psychopathy is a mental disorder which can cause an
individual to have behavior seen not normal to society. It causes the individual to be antisocial
towards others, and they can become egocentric (Richell, Mitchell, Newman, Leonard, Baron
Cohen, Blair, 2003). Primary psychopathy and secondary psychopathy both show the traits of
being impulsive, angry and very antagonistic however secondary psychopathy also shows the
individual to have social anxiety, doubt themselves and to have swings in their emotions often

someone s ability to be able to relate to another individuals emotions and their mental state (Ali
