Lynching In The New South Georgia And Virginia 1880-1930
Review: Lynching in the New South: Georgia and Virginia, 1880 1930 Between 1880 and 1930,
lynching became not only a phenomenon but a way of life in the southern states. Lynching was
racially motivated as it targeted mostly blacks. Within this 50 year period, 1000s of blacks and
hundreds of whites were killed by lynch mobs within the southern states alone. Lynching was
bloody and ruthless and a horrifying way to be executed. In Fitzhugh Brundage s book, Lynching
in the New South Georgia and Virginia, 1880 1930, he talks about how lynching peaked and
expanded throughout Georgia and compares mob violence between Georgia and Virginia in that
time period. Brundage states that Lynching in the American South during the late nineteenth and
early twentieth century was but one manifestation of strenuous and bloody campaign by whites
to elaborate and impose a racial hierarchy upon people of color throughout the globe (Brundage
2). Whites used lynching as a means for social and economic control. They did not want blacks
to have any power and wanted to keep them oppressed. This book explores the differences in
lynch mobs between Georgia and Virginia, and how the whites used lynching as a way to keep
economic control in the hands of the whites. There was quite a difference in the lynching mobs
between Georgia and Virginia. Within both states, there were 4 known mobs which included:
terrorist mobs, posses, private mobs and mass mobs. Each of these mobs was distinct in some
aspect with

Rock Hard Abs Research Paper
.Doing crnches or working on an ab machine will get rid of belly fat.
You have to work out all the surrounding areas to tighten up and most likely change the existing
eating habits to a healthier diet. I think the media pushes this myth because a lot of people want
to think its that simple and they will buy what ever machine or exercise plan that claims to give
you rock hard abs . One note that needs to be added to this myth is that you cannot just work out
your abs and see results abs are a very difficult area of muscle to visually achieve and it takes more
diet and work all around since they are located in the center of the body. You have to burn fat to see
the muscle underneath.
2. When it comes to working out, you ve got to feel some pain if you re going to gain any benefits.
no pain no gain This is a dangerous quote to feed off of. It shouldn t hurt to workout or exercise
and if it does then there is something wrong or an underlying issue that needs to be addressed
before continuing to workout. I think a huge factor as to why this is an ongoing myth that is being
pushed in the fitness world is to be a tough guy . You should never be exercising at a level of pain.
3. The more you sweat, the more you burn! ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
You can always burn calories without sweating, Homeostasis is the reason for a person to sweat
it is the body s natural response to cool your skin and regulate internal body temperature. I think
this myth is ongoing because people are mislead from movies and just the fact that it looks as
though they had a strenuous workout. One thing to add to the articles is to inform people when
you lose water weight by sweating you re mainly just losing water weight which you will gain
back quickly, and of course the actual reason the body sweats as stated

Summary Of Why Max Was Right By Karl Marx
Karl Marx is considered a very controversial figure. On the one hand, he was a figurehead for the
common worker worldwide. On the other hand, he was a detestable threat to the very existence
of capitalism according to the millionaires and billionaires that controlled and still control this
country. In David Michael M. San Juan s academic article Why Marx Was Right: Third World
Edition , David shows that economic inequality exists not just within First World countries, but
also exists on a global scale and affects Third World countries as well. The article begins with the
definition of colonialism and a quote by Pope Francis detailing how poor countries become a
simple means of raw resource providers: Colonialism, both old and new, which reduces poor
countries to mere providers of raw material and cheap labor, engenders violence, poverty, forced
migrations...precisely because, by placing the periphery at the service of the center, it denies
those countries the right to an integral development. (Juan 3) He goes on to prove that this
statement by the Pope is based upon data from the United Nations Development Report, which
scores countries on the Human Development Index based on various factors. The article goes on
to recount various stories from various researchers and documentaries, such as the story of the
garbage chicken and mud cake , in which people from developing Third World countries are
documented as eating these things so as to get something in their belly (Juan 4 5). He goes on,
saying that these stories and the subsequent graphs provided in the article prove that there is an
economic disparity. This disparity has been almost exclusively left alone, in favor of economic
studies of First World countries. The article then begins to show the difference between the rich and
poor, and how the combined wealth of the top 1 percent will overtake the bottom 99 percent (Juan
8). The article goes on to show that the Marxist interpretation of capitalist exploitation actually turns
out to be accurate. The article references some disturbing facts, such as the fact that the 1,426
richest individuals have an aggregate net worth of US$ 5.4 trillion, which is more than the
combined gross domestic product

Affluenza Thesis
Based on Webster s dictionary definition, affluenza is described as a lack of motivation, feelings
of guilt, and a sense of isolation. But what really does this mean? Psychologist G. Dick Miller
who defends Ethan Couch, claims that affluenza is a condition fostered by wealthy and
permissive parents who encourage their children to believe normal rules do not apply to the
affluent. If rules don t apply to higher society and wealthy is an economic addiction or obsession,
then how does this impact human society? According to Washington Post, affluenza affects young
kids or adults in their rich world refering to them as poor little rich kids . The psychologist said

with genetic disorders tend to be more controlled by therapists and medications. On the other hand,
nurture is more focused on the impact of behavior, education, society and environment (Karen
Hart), it is the final determinant of how our genes are expressed. A person s development is
formed more by nurture. For example, in the case of Ethan Couch, lawyers defend their client as

Life of a Teenager
The Effects of Teenage Relationships Different relationships affect teenagers in various ways.
Friends impact teenagers almost the same amount as their parents. Teenagers go to their friends
for help or to ask questions that they could not ask their parents about. Most of the time their
friends give them good advice but then there is the down side when they put pressure on their
friends to do something like to smoke, drink, and do drugs. In most cases they tell their friends
how to dress and act when around certain people. Love relationships just make it even harder for a
teenager to get a good education. Some start to fail in school because they are hanging out with
their boyfriend or girlfriend instead of doing their work. Throughout... Show more content on

Close family ties are an important bond for each member of the family. A guy who wants to date
a girl must ask for her parents permission. In case no permission is granted, it is highly unlikely
for the date to actually happen, unless in some cases that the girl and guy sneak out and date out
secretly. However, this is morally unacceptable in Philippine culture. Filipino parents are very
strict with their children having romantic relationships. Brothers are generally protective of their
sisters. Even cousins and other relatives are protective of their young female cousins and
relatives. They become more lenient when their daughters, sisters and relatives reach the legal
age of 18. When picking up the girl at her home for a date, it is common to provide gifts to the
family members (parents, grandparents and siblings) as well. Parents usually want to have
some conversation with the guy and ask about his family and educational background before
they can go out for a date. First Date The first date is officially a time to get to know each other.
The couple ask about each other s backgrounds and it is highly unlikely to have a passionate kiss
after the date. Some girls allow a kiss on the cheek after the first date, but this varies per person
and per couple. Some guys don t even get the chance to hold the hand of their conservative dates.
However, the more liberal females are more open to

Carson Wentz is the captain of the 2018 Super Bowl LII champions, the Philadelphia Eagles. He
led the Eagles by clinching the NFC East title prior to tearing his ACL at the end of the Eagles

The Agricultural Crisis by Wendell Berry Essay example
The Agricultural Crisis by Wendell Berry
In this novel by Wendell Berry, Berry s describes in his thesis that modern culture is destroying
the agricultural culture. He feels that technology is seen as the easy way to produce food faster
and more efficiently. With this modern way of farming comes the idea that hard work is not
needed to make a living. The goal is comfort and leisure. Berry feels that this is the reason for the
deterioration of the agricultural culture. He believes that hard work and pride in workmanship is
more important than material goods and money. This was by no means a perfect society. The
people had often been violent wand wasteful in the use of land of each other. Its present ills have
already taken root in it. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They generally are not interested in anything that cannot be reached by automobile on a good
road. Some of the farmer s children will be able to afford to stay on the farm. Perhaps even fewer
will wish to do so, for it will cost too much, require too much work and worry, and it is hardly a
fashionable ambition.
Another argument that Berry proposes is the connection between the modernization of agricultural
techniques and the disintegration of the culture, as well as the communities of farming and the
consequent disintegration of structures of urban life. What we called agriculture progress has
involved the forcible displacement of millions of people. An example of modernization can be
seen through the idea of Get big or get out. It s a policy that says that you have to become more
modern through change and be competitive in order to keep up with the other competitors. If not,
than you must get of what you are doing. This can be used through a comparison of communist
using military force in order to remove those who refuse to follow their demand for change, and the
government using their economic power to force farmers to improve their farming techniques. In a
Free Market the most successful becomes the richest. To those who could not

The benefits that the changes in the coffee culture bring are multiple and we see a coffee culture
highly adapted to the new trend. This dissertation can be useful for foreign coffee shops to gain
knowledge about the Swedish coffee market and its culture. New markets are opening through
cultural changes, so marketers and others searching for new marketing opportunities on the
Swedish coffee market should read this paper to get ideas, advices and inspiration.

Parable Of The Lost Sheep
How is Luke s claim on the repentance of sinners in the Parable of the Lost Sheep being illustrated
by the differences in detail found, in comparison to the Gospels of Matthew and Thomas?
The Parable of the Lost Sheep is one of the many parables Jesus gave during his lifetime. It is
found in the two canonical gospels: Matthew 18:10 14 and Luke 15:3 10. It is also found in the
non canonical gospel of Thomas 107. It is about a shepherd who leaves his flock of ninety nine
sheep behind to go look for the one sheep that is lost. This context is similar in all of the three
Gospels.
However, although there are similarities, there are also differences. These differences have an
implication for the message grasped by the readers. The focus will be on the repentance of sinners
claimed in the Gospel of Luke and how it differs from the messages found in the other two Gospels.
I will do this by analyzing the effect of the differences in language, symbolic representation, the
location of the parable, audience, and the context in which it is written, found in these three Gospels.
In terms of symbolic presentation, Luke uses the word sinners to compare them to the sheep as seen
in verse 7, ...one sinner who repents... Jesus is giving a reason why he is friends of tax collectors
and sinners. This is because they are like the sheep, lost and need saving through repentance. In the
Gospel of Matthew, Jesus uses the words little ones . Jesus uses these words after giving a lesson

Vietnam, January 31, 1968. The Vietcong and the North Vietnamese army has just launched a
large surprise attack on the U.S and South Korea during the holiday of Tet, engaging in over 120
cities and U.S occupied bases throughout South Vietnam and Cambodia. This large offensive was
led by Ho Chi Minh and other leaders in the North. Their goal: to weaken U.S. forces to wean off
from guerilla attacks and carpet bombings in the North. They never knew that this historical attack
would become an important role in weakening U.S. public support for the war in Vietnam.
Therefore, the Tet Offensive was a major turning point in the Vietnam War regarding public support.

In just six months after the offensive, public support was dropped down to about 40%. The
attack became apparent to the majority of the public that we were still far from winning this was
and that our enemies were still not going to give up. The lack of public support then became a
problem for President Johnson and Westmoreland to take back the offensive in the war. In just
two months after the attack, President Johnson announced that bombing would not take place
below the 20th parallel which saved North Vietnam 90% of their territory so supplies and men
could be moved with ease. The aftermath also killed a lot of morale for the troops and many of
them would contribute to fragging which is when they would kill their officer. Towards the end of
the war, President Johnson was not able to grant Westmoreland s request for 200,000 more troops.
He also cut the line down where 19 miles past Cambodia, the neighboring country of North and
South Vietnam, U.S. infantryman were not allowed to advance past that point. This made winning
the war even harder when restrictions were being put. Finally, it got to the point where only South
Vietnamese were allowed to fight as infantrymen and the U.S. could only provide air support and
transportation. Unfortunately, many South Vietnamese had little to no

The Songs Of Drake s Rise
Popular Albums of 2015
People often go through relationship issues, breakups, sadness, depression, struggles, and other
emotional events. Listening to songs gives people s emotion a voice to which they can relate to.
Being able to connect to people at such a deep and personal level allows songs to become popular
and allows the Artist s album to rise to the top and be successful. In the year 2015, there were
many successful albums that were released, but in my opinion Drake s album If You re Reading
This It s Too Late and Justin Bieber s album Purpose was a success because of how deeply the
artists were able to connect with their fans and listeners.

2015 album release and many people bought it just because they expected Drake s new album to
match or exceed the popularity of his last album. Drake sings about what goes on the daily in his
life and people are able to relate to this, because many of them find themselves in a similar
situation. Thus, allowed this album to rise to the top and be successful.
Moreover, Justin s album Purpose was a huge success because of all the different styles of music
he was offering to the listeners. He included many genre styles in his album such as R B, pop,
EDM, folk, contemporary R B and more. This allowed people from many different music tastes
to listen and like his album. It also helped people try out other genres of music too. This album is
a showcase of how Justin Bieber matured as artist. This album relates to past relations a lot and
how to coup with those lingering feelings. Many of his songs in this album are about relationship
issues but still he is able to keep it uplifting and provide support to people going to the same
situation. Justin Bieber sends a message through his songs that it will be alright and that you

Pros And Cons Of Cyber Warfare
3.1 Cyber Warfare
Richard A. Clark, an expert in security sector governance in his book Cyber War (May 2010),
defines Cyber War as an act of penetration of a country against other computer network with the
intent of causing damage and disruption. The Economist magazine explained that cyber war is the
fifth domain of warfare, after land, sea, air and space. Cyber warfare, (also known as cyber war and
Cyber warfare), is a war with the use of computer networks and the Internet in cyberspace (cyber
space) in the form of defense and attack information. Cyber warfare is also known as cyber
warfare refers to the use of the World Wide Web and computer to conduct warfare in cyberspace.
Although sometimes relatively minimal and lightweight, so far cyber warfare could potentially

Moral Values In The Bible
Morals and Themes Learned From an Important Lesson: The Bible
Many books, movies, quotes and ideas have been crafted and based off of the stories and themes
of The Bible. The parables as shown in The Bible As/In Literature have many characters that
other authors and artists base their work off of as it guides some audiences to believe where these
ideas and morals have come from. One of these art forms being the Dreamworks animated movie,
The Prince of Egypt. It tells the Biblical story of Moses and how he saved the Israelites from the
hard, grueling slave work the Egyptians forced through them, once God gave him the task to. The
movie The Prince of Egypt and the parables from The Bible As/In Literature share many themes
that connect the stories together and the traits shown through their characters. Some major
themes that are used between the two are leadership, determination and faith. One major theme
in The Prince of Egypt that relates to the BAIL story of Joseph is determination. The story of
Joseph is about Jacob s son Joseph and how his brothers despised him. Joseph always had a
dream that one day his brothers would be looking up to him, and that he was someone very
important. His brothers were very angry and they sent him to Egypt and took his tunic and dipped
it in goat s blood. Joseph got to Egypt and met the Pharaoh, and answered his dream and became
Pharaoh s right hand man. One place where we see determination from Joseph is when he told his
brothers and father

Should People Avoid Participation Continue To Hand Out...
Betty Barden once said When awards are handed out like candy to every child who participates,
they diminish in value. Every kid has gotten a participation trophy at some point, or a medal, or
even a slip of paper saying You did it! But after sometime, those awards become meaningless. It s
an award showing that someone participated in something. Does every olympian get a gold medal?
If everyone continues to hand out awardsfor just showing up, no one will ever have to work for
anything. People will expect rewards, good grades, or even trophies to just be handed to them.
Participation trophies should be given out very carefully and with great caution.
People hand out trophies all the time, right? If people continue to hand out trophies like candy,

would have to train to win, or practice to succeed. Everyone would be a winner. There would be
no competition. Success will become meaningless if everyone wins. There would be no definite

Geological Structures Within The Earth
Geology Geological structures within the earth can determine a multitude of variables when
determining such things as formations, permeability, porosity, lithology, mineralogy, saturation and
normal/abnormal/subnormal pressure which in turn can provide the necessary information for
reservoir pay zones. The foundation for hydrocarbons is based off of the organic theory which
states that the hydrocarbons formed through an anaerobic environment (lacking oxygen) over time
with high pressures and relatively low temperatures (300В°F 392В°F) with carbon based
materials such as algae. The basis for algae is the fact that the ocean contained around 95% of
plankton in the ocean and reservoirs for hydrocarbons are found in sediments made up of... Show

Petroleum engineers deal only with sedimentary basin rocks in oil and gas drilling, and these
sedimentary rocks are types of rock that are formed by the deposition of material at the Earth s
surface and within bodies of water. Permeability in these rock is a measure of the ease with
which fluid flows through a porous rock, and is a function of the degree of interconnection
between the pores. Permeability can be separated into three parts: absolute, effective, and
relative. Absolute is when pore spaces are 100% saturated with the same fluid, effective is when
the permeability of a flowing phase that does not saturate 100% of the rock, and relative which
is the ratio of effective permeability to absolute permeability of the same rock. When
permeability is low the degree at which fluids can flow through the rock is low and therefore not
a good means of producing hydrocarbons. Even if a reservoir has a high saturation, a low
permeable rock will have no means of obtaining the porous medium. However this is not the only
cause with saturations of rock. The irreducible water saturation also plays a part in the production
of hydrocarbons. This is when water is held against the rock grains by surface tension and cannot
be produced which is determined by grain structure, i.e. size and mixture. Normal pressure below
the earth has a linear relationship with temperature and depth, i.e. as depth increases the
temperature and pressure increases, however

methods that are best for students with ADHD including reward systems for behavior, to

Based on the research of Bennett et al. (1996), Elliott (1988), Liu et al. (1991), and Power et al.
(1995), it was predicted that: 1. Teachers knowledge of ADHD, knowledge of treatments for
ADHD, and ratings of acceptability for two common treatments (medication and behavior
management strategies) would demonstrate moderate positive relationships with one another. 2.
Teachers experience and training in working with students with ADHD would exhibit moderate
positive relationships with their knowledge of ADHD, knowledge of treatments for ADHD, and
ratings of treatment acceptability. Unfortunately some general education teachers have little to no
training in teaching students with ADHD successfully. The teachers who had more information and
training about ADHD and teaching techniques were found to be more likely to use the strategies
and meet the academic needs of diagnosed students than teachers who had not received training
(Glass, 2001). Medication and ADHD Throughout most research, teachers are shown to have
different views on using medication for treatment of ADHD. Many believe that the popularity of
ADHD is due to the endorsement of the medical profession; the doctors influence decision making
in the government which then results in the popularization of the concept and the ever widening
boundaries of its definition (Timimi, 2005). But there are also studies that show that students who
are treated with medication are more likely to

The Purpose Of A Case Study
Media research indicates that journalistic standards and practices are socially constructed
systems, which deal with complex work processes by organising news flow and explicating roles
and competencies (Tuchman 1978; Fishman 1980). The case study method is regarded as a valid
tool to analyse a complex issue. A case studyis defined as an empirical inquiry that investigates a
contemporary phenomenon within its real life context (Yin 2003: 13). It is best used to understand
complex social and organisational issues. Case study evidence to answer researchquestions and
contribute to theory development originates from a variety of sources, such as documentation,
archival records, interviews (qualitative or quantitative) and observation. In this... Show more

The second is that it is not easily open to generalisation but if it is contextualised and carefully
described then others can consider its usefulness in other contexts and examples (Wisker
2001:191). Finally, Dominick and Wimmer argue that case studies are likely to be time
consuming and may occasionally produce massive quantities of data that are hard to summarise
(1987: 165). With regard to this study, I would like to argue that the strengths of observations
outweigh the weaknesses. In addition, there is simply no other method that applies better to what
I want to investigate. The findings are not representative of all newsrooms experimenting with
convergence since the research is derived from one case. Therefore I do not wish to generalise
any findings from this case study. I tried to provide readers with good raw material for their own
generalising because the reader can make his or her own generalisations and interpret it their way
(Stake, 1995:102). However, the findings will offer insights that could be probed for future

Classical Hollywood Style
Classical Hollywood narrative Classical Hollywood cinema possesses a style which is largely
invisible and difficult for the average spectator to see. The narrative is delivered so effortlessly
and efficiently to the audience that it appears to have no source. It comes magically off the screen.
John Belton, film scholar, Rutgers University Classical Hollywood narrative refers to the
filmmaking tradition established in Hollywood during the 1920s and 1930s. It became the
dominant style throughout the western world against which all other styles were judged. While
there have been some challenges to it in recent years, it remains the accepted style for most

Who Is Henry Fuseli Nightmarish
Henry Fuseli: Nightmarish The Enlightenment in art history is best known for promoting reasoning
and rationality just as much as it favored beauty and social progress. However, Henry Fuseli, who
sought to portray human irrationality, often challenged Enlightenment ideals with his work
(Cothren, Stockstad). Painted in 1771 and exhibited at the Royal Academyof London in 1772,
Fuseli sought to make a name for himself with his composition The Nightmare(Tate). The painting
leaves its audience with a dark sense of wonder and intrigue. Fuseli captured an audience during a
time in which patrons had favored easily understood concepts over complex imagery drawn from
history or mythology (Cothren, Stockstad). Fuseli pushed many boundaries and artistic
expectations set in this period with sexually charged compositions and dark tones in narrative.
Contentious for its time, The Nightmare is a classical painting which hinges upon Fuseli s own
sexual desires, potentially unrequited love, and folklore of the period. Certainly, Henry Fuselis
romanticized gothic style both shocked and awed his audience. However, Fuseli did not always
intend to be an artist. Though he was one of eighteen children with a father who devoted his life to
both creating and collecting art, becoming an artist was not Henry Fuseli s initial pursuit. Despite
his art rich upbringing, in the mid 1760 s, Fuseli moved to England from his hometown of ZГјrich,
Switzerland in search of other achievements. Initially, Henry

Assess the sociological explanations for the growth of new religious movements.
By: Amy Rashid
Over the years, there has been a growth of new religious movements in the society. This growth
can be explained in terms of why people chose to join the movements or in terms of wider social
changes. Hence, in this essay, I shall discuss several sociological explanations for this occurrence.
Firstly, Steve Bruce (1995, 1996) attributes the development of a range of religious institutions,
including sects and cults, to a general process of modernization and secularization. He believes the
weakness of more conventional institutionalized religions has encouraged some people to consider
less traditional alternatives. As modern societies ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Thus, members are expected to remain celibate during their youth. They are to subsequently marry,
have children, and create an ideal family which contributes to world peace. Thus showing that
world rejecting new religious movement attracted the youth with its idealistic, spiritual and caring
way of life. Furthermore, this may be supported by Steve Bruce (1995) who saw world rejecting
movements as having a particular appeal to the young. Many became disillusioned by the failure of
the counter culture in the 1960s to radically change the world. Drugs and exploitation of the
movement disintegrated the hippie culture, and thus these disillusioned youths turned to religion as
a path to salvation rather than religion. An example of this would be the International Society for
Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON), which is also popularly known as Hare Krishna . ISKCON is
based in Hinduism and they worship the hindu god, Krishna as the Supreme God. Hare Krishnas
are also known for their public singing and dancing and distribution of materials including their
magazine, Back to Godhead. ISKCON is actively evangelistic, with the goal of spreading God
consciousness throughout the world. Notable followers of this movement would be the Beatles.
Therefore, showing that new religious movements appeal to youths due to its potential for a more
spiritual and idealistic life via more loving social relationships. Lastly, Wallis also claims that world

Folklore In Fairy Tales
Folklore by definition is: traditional customs, tales, sayings, dances or art forms preserved among a
people. 2) an often unsupported notion, story or saying that is widely circulated (Merriam Webster
Dictionary www.merriamwebster.com/dictionary/folklore). We use folklore in our daily lives
without much thought. Every time we tell a joke, pass long an urban legend, repeat a saying or
proverb you ve heard, as well as every time you read a fairy taleto a child you are using verbal
folklore.
Oral traditions and oral lore is passed down through generations, in poetry, tales, jokes, legends,
proverbs and songs. In addition, verbal folklore has repetitive patterns that quickly identify the
type of lore you are about to hear. For example: a man walks into a bar you immediately know
you are about to hear a joke, additionally Once upon a time identifies a fairy tale. Old MacDonald

Analysis Of Dragon s Village, Things Fall Apart, And...
In Africa and throughout the world, many countries have been forced to undergo the plight of
colonial rule. Along with this, comes varying external impacts which severely alter the cultural,
political, social, and personal identity of a country both during and long after the Colonial Era. The
evidence of these established changes can be found in the novels; Dragon s Village, Things Fall
Apart, and Man of the People surrounding China and Africa. Along with Deepa Mehta s period
films, Earth and Water and Iciar Bollain s juxtaposition piece, Even the Rain that emphasize the
circumstances that occurred in India and Bolivia.
A master at providing alternative context to Africa and concepts of decolonization, Chinua Achebe
wrote a great amount of literary work, including, Things Fall Apart (1956) and A Man of the
People (1966). The first novel, occurring both before and during Nigeria s neo colonial period,
depicts the relationship between Okonkwo and his Igbo tribe in Umuofia. With an identity heavily
dependent on his social status and structure, Achebe s protagonist communicates his extreme
distaste for the entrance of European colonizers:
Okonkwo was well known throughout the nine villages and even beyond. His fame rested on solid
personal achievements. As a young man of eighteen he had brought honor to his village by
throwing Amalinze the Cat. Amalinze was the great wrestler who for seven years was unbeaten,
from Umuofia to Mbaino. (1.1)

Employee Performance And Achievement Of Organisational Goals
1 Introduction: 1.1 Background: Employee behaviours could often have an impact on
organisational performance and achievement of organisational goals. In any organisation, its
members could display varied behaviour where minimalists would contribute just enough to
maintain affiliation while others may exhibit overt and discretionary behaviour which is beyond
their stipulated job description and likely to benefit the organisation (Turnipseed and Rassuli:
2005). This latter behaviour where the employee goes the extra mile proactively engaging in
such activities has been described by various nomenclatures such as Organisational Citizenship
Behaviour (OCB) by Organ (1988) as cited in Organ (1997), pro social organisational behaviour
(Brief and Motowidlo: 1986), contextual performance (Borman and Motowidlo: 1993) and extra
role behaviour (Van Dyne et al: 1995). OCB has been one of the important and popular research
subjects in the recent years. It emphasizes on the most preferred employee level outcomes at
workplace (Bateman and Organ 1983, Smith et al 1983, Anderson and Williams: 1996). Although
the concept of OCB was proposed by Bateman and Organ in the early 1980s, the origins of this
concept could be traced back to early 1960s when Katz recognized three distinct behavioural entities
for the proficient functioning of an organisation. This includes induction and retention of the
workforce in the organisation, employees performing specific dependable job roles in addition to

The creation of the web was not only a revolutionary movement but also acted as a door for endless
opportunities in the music industry. Its ability alone to provide the general public with continuous

was not created with a business mentality but
as the years went by it began and continues to be moulded into a continuous path where consumers
grasp the aptitude to which they could discover incessant possibilities online such as the access to

With such a revolutionary platform such as the internet, users all over the globe are rapidly getting

“White Man’s Burden” Essay
Rudyard Kipling s 1899 poem The White Man s Burden epitomizes the European man s view on
imperialism, Euro centrism and social Darwinism. Four centuries before 1899, such ideas were
briefly hinted in the letter from Christopher Columbus to King Ferdinand and Queen Isabella,
however by 1899 these attitudes strengthened and developed fully into their complete meaning. The
U.S and Europe s imperialism in the nineteenth century were the most influential ever in the history
of human civilization. The immense motive for imperialism came from social factors including
religion and Social Darwinism.
Missionaries frequently rushed to Africa and Asia to convert its people to Christianity. On the other

Taking care indicates improvement of their culture until they reach that of the Euro American
standards which makes it clear that The White man s Burden proposes that the phase after
exploration is the self centered education of the colonial population. The same month Kipling s
poem was published, the Treaty of Paris was ratified and the Philippines, Puerto Rico, and Guam
were acquired by the United States while Cuba remained occupied by the military. Advocates of
this acquisition gravitated to the poem and popularized it as the literary voice of benevolent
assimilation. The poem makes clear Kipling s view of attitudes that allowed colonialism to proceed.
Although a belief in the virtues of empire was widespread at the time, there were also many
dissenters; the publication of the poem caused a flurry of arguments from both sides, most
notably from Mark Twain and Henry James. Mark Twain asserted that Kipling wrote the poem to
help persuade many doubting Americans to seize the Philippines, which seemed to be a fair point
of view for that time period. In the New York Herald, October 15, 1900, Twain describes his
transformation and political awakening, in the context of the Philippine American War. He
recognizes his transformation from being Pro imperialist to Anti imperialist. Many Anti
imperialists like Mark Twain acted on the popularity of the poem to attack the McKinley s policies

Toyota Unintended Acceleration Case Study
A Case Study on Toyota Unintended Acceleration Toyota s Unintended Acceleration disaster
could have been avoided if the software engineers had practiced proper software development
steps. Numerous lessons, both technical and managerial can be learned from this software
catastrophe. Three crucial lessons include: ensuring the proper implementation of fail safes,
adherence to rigorous coding standards (MISRA C), and minimizing software complexity. The
first incident of unwanted acceleration occurred in 2003. However, this was not reported to the
National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) until five years later. And it was not
until 2004 that the NHTSA actively began investigating certain Toyota models. These
investigations were eventually deemed inconclusive due to the lack of resources (rather than
actual evidence) to investigate further (Bagnara, 2014). Over the next three years a series of
investigations open up, but once again have been deemed inconclusive due to lack of
administrative resources (Bagnara, 2014). In 2007, the acceleration issues are associated with
faulty floor mats getting caught beneath the pedals causing the vehicle to accelerate
uncontrollable. Toyota begins issuing recalls soon after. Two years later, a fatal accident occurs
involving the death of four people which was again linked to defective floor mats. However, it was
quickly becoming evident that not all the fault can be blamed on floor mats. In 2010, Toyota

teens are more prone to it due to the influences from their peers, coolest status, and media. I also

Astor Pazzolla Influence On Nuevo Tango
Astor Piazzolla is from Argentina and he is a composer. He created the tango genre called nuevo
tango which incorporates jazz and tango which is the new tango style. This style requires more
instruments than the traditional tango. Ever since tango lost its popularity around 1950s and
1960s, Piazzolla was considered to be the saviour of tango due to the creation of nuevo tango. The
traditional tango was designed as dancing music, and not merely for listening. Furthermore,
traditional tango was mainly played by the poor and the lower middle class. As such, in 1950s,
tango started losing its creativity and popularity. Since then, tango was studied but no longer
played to fulfill its original purpose. In fact, new tango music was not allowed to be melodic due
to its usage of protestant and the expression of power.
Nonetheless, Piazzolla developed the new tango in 1955 and it gained popularity through upper
middle class and tourists. The tango that Piazzolla developed was mainly played for listening due
to its rhythm. He transformed tango music from a functional dance style to a symbolic social
statement (Live Class session 3). This statement depicted the poor and the oppressed in Argentina

Roz says she is a very determined person and the first sign her determination came when the
position of hospitality manager / PA to Richard Branson became available on his privately
owned island, Necker. Roz recalls a conversation she had with her mother before moving to the
Virgin Islands. She was showing her mother pictures of Necker Island and in a glossy magazine
and made a promise that she would one day work there. After beating off thousands of applicants
for the position her promise was realised. The experience of working on Necker Island with the
entrepreneur Richard Branson was an opportunity of a life time. Not only was she able to
observe and assist Richard in his business ventures, part of her job was organise and host parties
and events on the island for some of the world s most prominent business people. This she
believes was one of the first catalysts for her which made her think of setting up business for
herself. After working and socialising with rich and successful business men and women she
realised that they were no different from her and if they could do it then so could she. As she had
done before with the job on Necker she set a goal for herself that she would one day own her own
business. She feels this is another example of the determination that set her on the path to success.
After five years working on Necker Island Roz decided it was time to return to Edinburgh. Upon
her return she went on holiday with a

Ssg Arroa s Squad At Fort Indiantown Gap
SSG Arroa s squad moved cautiously down the path that the Sergeant had marked to the main
gate at Fort Indiantown Gap. The rest of the first platoon had held back as well as the company
to provide cover for the advancing squad. SSG Arroa had cleared about a hundred yards past the
main gain without any problems. They encountered no resistance, but several booby traps, which
they disabled. Their orders were that once they were able to breach the main gate, they were to
begin to remove the barricades, which consisted of everything but the kitchen sink, several cars
that had been pushed into the front of the gate, chairs, benches, large rocks, mounds of dirt, and a
couple of desks. SSG Arroa sent Corporal Reyes to his PlatoonSergeantand told him to send more
men to help clear the barricade. There was no way he could provide security for him and his
men as well as move everything out of the way. SFC Dittmyer was the Platoon Sergeant; the man
was not a great thinker and a very poor leader. He had decided to send one more squad to help
SSG Arroa; why the entire platoon didn t move was lost on SSG Arroa. Once they had cleared
the gate everyone was supposed to move through it so why wait. However, SSG Arroa knew it
wasn t his job to wonder why the Army did things. His job was to execute his orders to the best of
his ability. Second Squad led by SSG Dane moved out of their position in the woods running toward
the main gate, down the path and meeting up with first squad.

Monasticism Research Paper
What is a MONASTERY / MONASTICISM?
Monasteries were places where groups of men or women could live together and worship God.
The men in the monasteries were called monks and the women were called nuns. A monastery
is sometimes called an abbey or a priory . Monasteries for women are also sometimes called
nunneries . Monasteries always had lots of small buildings for the monks or nuns to live in.
These are called cells . British ones were usually round. Saxon ones were rectangular. There would
also be a kitchen and workshops. They could be built of wood or stone.
Monasticism is a religious way of life in which one declares to devote oneself fully to spiritual
work. The term is derived from the Greek word MONACHOS which means solitary ... Show more

Not only were they educated by they also demonstrated skills in agriculture and manual labor. As
time went by the influential families in the medieval era began establishing their own monasteries
within their estates. The abbots who were designated to oversee these monasteries were related,
directly or in directly to the family that owned the monastery. As such, the abbots administered the
monasteries in the interest of the owners. This resulted into the rapid integration of the monasteries
into the power structure of the medieval society.
Where did MONASTICISM spread?
From Egypt, the popularity of Monasticism spread very rapidly to Palestine. This country,
sanctified as it was by the life and death of the founder of the Christian faith, attracted the interest
from all corners of the Empire.
It appeared in Syria during the first decades of the fourth century. The great hymnographer and
theologian Ephraim the Syrian also made successful efforts to organize the monks.
By way of Cappadocia and Asia Minor, monasticism reached the capital of the Empire,
Constantinople. Many of the monasteries that were established in the suburbs on both sides of the
Bosporus became flourishing organizations, and through their activities influenced the course of
ecclesiastical and sometimes of political

The United States During The Postwar Period
Following the increase in immigration rates to the United States during the postwar period, how
well immigrants do in the US Labour market in terms of earnings and opportunities has been of
great interest to Labour economists. Prior to the early 1960 s systems of immigration quotas such
as the National Origins formula were in place aimed to reduce the number of individuals seeking
to enter and reside in the country, however following the Hart Cellar Act (1965) there was an
upsurge in immigrants relocating to the US. This increase has provided for a lot of data that allows
us to analyze many trends related to immigrationleading to the development of policies that result in
economic well being.
In this paper I examine the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Particularly when looking at returns to education and work experience, individuals migrating from
countries with different socio economic backgrounds may not possess human capital that is
transferable in the host country. In a study comparing migrants from neighboring countries with
German immigrants, Schmidt (1997) concluded that the immigrants who completed their primary,
secondary and higher education in Germany had similar earnings to native workers, while
immigrants who completed their education outside the host country earned significantly lower.
Bratsberg, Barth and Raaum (2006) find that growth in immigrant wages are a function of the time
spent in the host country as immigrants will typically earn less pay during the first years after
permanently moving. Immigrants are placed directly at a disadvantage in the labour market as
soon as they ve immigrated (Chiswick 1978). Given the recurring emphasis of this factor in the
literature I include a year moved to the US variable to capture work experience in host country and
the time the individual had to get well integrated. The direct effects of education on wages have
been well documented, however there continues to remain unobservable factors correlated with
education that can affect wages, such as the lack of equal opportunity in the access to education.

  • 3. Lynching In The New South Georgia And Virginia 1880-1930 Review: Lynching in the New South: Georgia and Virginia, 1880 1930 Between 1880 and 1930, lynching became not only a phenomenon but a way of life in the southern states. Lynching was racially motivated as it targeted mostly blacks. Within this 50 year period, 1000s of blacks and hundreds of whites were killed by lynch mobs within the southern states alone. Lynching was bloody and ruthless and a horrifying way to be executed. In Fitzhugh Brundage s book, Lynching in the New South Georgia and Virginia, 1880 1930, he talks about how lynching peaked and expanded throughout Georgia and compares mob violence between Georgia and Virginia in that time period. Brundage states that Lynching in the American South during the late nineteenth and early twentieth century was but one manifestation of strenuous and bloody campaign by whites to elaborate and impose a racial hierarchy upon people of color throughout the globe (Brundage 2). Whites used lynching as a means for social and economic control. They did not want blacks to have any power and wanted to keep them oppressed. This book explores the differences in lynch mobs between Georgia and Virginia, and how the whites used lynching as a way to keep economic control in the hands of the whites. There was quite a difference in the lynching mobs between Georgia and Virginia. Within both states, there were 4 known mobs which included: terrorist mobs, posses, private mobs and mass mobs. Each of these mobs was distinct in some aspect with ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

You have to work out all the surrounding areas to tighten up and most likely change the existing eating habits to a healthier diet. I think the media pushes this myth because a lot of people want to think its that simple and they will buy what ever machine or exercise plan that claims to give you rock hard abs . One note that needs to be added to this myth is that you cannot just work out your abs and see results abs are a very difficult area of muscle to visually achieve and it takes more diet and work all around since they are located in the center of the body. You have to burn fat to see the muscle underneath. 2. When it comes to working out, you ve got to feel some pain if you re going to gain any benefits. no pain no gain This is a dangerous quote to feed off of. It shouldn t hurt to workout or exercise and if it does then there is something wrong or an underlying issue that needs to be addressed before continuing to workout. • 5. Summary Of Why Max Was Right By Karl Marx Karl Marx is considered a very controversial figure. On the one hand, he was a figurehead for the common worker worldwide. On the other hand, he was a detestable threat to the very existence of capitalism according to the millionaires and billionaires that controlled and still control this country. In David Michael M. San Juan s academic article Why Marx Was Right: Third World Edition , David shows that economic inequality exists not just within First World countries, but also exists on a global scale and affects Third World countries as well. The article begins with the definition of colonialism and a quote by Pope Francis detailing how poor countries become a simple means of raw resource providers: Colonialism, both old and new, which reduces poor countries to mere providers of raw material and cheap labor, engenders violence, poverty, forced migrations...precisely because, by placing the periphery at the service of the center, it denies those countries the right to an integral development. (Juan 3) He goes on to prove that this statement by the Pope is based upon data from the United Nations Development Report, which scores countries on the Human Development Index based on various factors. The article goes on to recount various stories from various researchers and documentaries, such as the story of the garbage chicken and mud cake , in which people from developing Third World countries are documented as eating these things so as to get something in their belly (Juan 4 5). He goes on, saying that these stories and the subsequent graphs provided in the article prove that there is an economic disparity. This disparity has been almost exclusively left alone, in favor of economic studies of First World countries. The article then begins to show the difference between the rich and poor, and how the combined wealth of the top 1 percent will overtake the bottom 99 percent (Juan 8). The article goes on to show that the Marxist interpretation of capitalist exploitation actually turns out to be accurate. The article references some disturbing facts, such as the fact that the 1,426 richest individuals have an aggregate net worth of US$ 5.4 trillion, which is more than the combined gross domestic product ... Psychologist G. If rules don t apply to higher society and wealthy is an economic addiction or obsession, then how does this impact human society? Close family ties are an important bond for each member of the family. A guy who wants to date a girl must ask for her parents permission. In case no permission is granted, it is highly unlikely for the date to actually happen, unless in some cases that the girl and guy sneak out and date out secretly. However, this is morally unacceptable in Philippine culture. Filipino parents are very strict with their children having romantic relationships. Brothers are generally protective of their sisters. Even cousins and other relatives are protective of their young female cousins and relatives. They become more lenient when their daughters, sisters and relatives reach the legal age of 18. When picking up the girl at her home for a date, it is common to provide gifts to the family members (parents, grandparents and siblings) as well. Parents usually want to have some conversation with the guy and ask about his family and educational background before they can go out for a date. First Date The first date is officially a time to get to know each other. The couple ask about each other s backgrounds and it is highly unlikely to have a passionate kiss after the date. • 11. The Agricultural Crisis by Wendell Berry Essay example The Agricultural Crisis by Wendell Berry In this novel by Wendell Berry, Berry s describes in his thesis that modern culture is destroying the agricultural culture. He feels that technology is seen as the easy way to produce food faster and more efficiently. With this modern way of farming comes the idea that hard work is not needed to make a living. The goal is comfort and leisure. Berry feels that this is the reason for the deterioration of the agricultural culture. He believes that hard work and pride in workmanship is more important than material goods and money. This was by no means a perfect society. The people had often been violent wand wasteful in the use of land of each other. Its present ills have already taken root in it. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Perhaps even fewer will wish to do so, for it will cost too much, require too much work and worry, and it is hardly a fashionable ambition. Another argument that Berry proposes is the connection between the modernization of agricultural techniques and the disintegration of the culture, as well as the communities of farming and the consequent disintegration of structures of urban life. What we called agriculture progress has involved the forcible displacement of millions of people. An example of modernization can be seen through the idea of Get big or get out. It s a policy that says that you have to become more modern through change and be competitive in order to keep up with the other competitors. If not, than you must get of what you are doing. • 13. Parable Of The Lost Sheep How is Luke s claim on the repentance of sinners in the Parable of the Lost Sheep being illustrated by the differences in detail found, in comparison to the Gospels of Matthew and Thomas? The Parable of the Lost Sheep is one of the many parables Jesus gave during his lifetime. It is found in the two canonical gospels: Matthew 18:10 14 and Luke 15:3 10. It is also found in the non canonical gospel of Thomas 107. It is about a shepherd who leaves his flock of ninety nine sheep behind to go look for the one sheep that is lost. This context is similar in all of the three Gospels. However, although there are similarities, there are also differences. These differences have an implication for the message grasped by the readers. The focus will be on the repentance of sinners claimed in the Gospel of Luke and how it differs from the messages found in the other two Gospels. I will do this by analyzing the effect of the differences in language, symbolic representation, the location of the parable, audience, and the context in which it is written, found in these three Gospels. In terms of symbolic presentation, Luke uses the word sinners to compare them to the sheep as seen in verse 7, ...one sinner who repents... Jesus is giving a reason why he is friends of tax collectors and sinners. This is because they are like the sheep, lost and need saving through repentance. Moral Values In The Bible Morals and Themes Learned From an Important Lesson: The Bible Many books, movies, quotes and ideas have been crafted and based off of the stories and themes of The Bible. The parables as shown in The Bible As/In Literature have many characters that other authors and artists base their work off of as it guides some audiences to believe where these ideas and morals have come from. One of these art forms being the Dreamworks animated movie, The Prince of Egypt. It tells the Biblical story of Moses and how he saved the Israelites from the hard, grueling slave work the Egyptians forced through them, once God gave him the task to. The movie The Prince of Egypt and the parables from The Bible As/In Literature share many themes that connect the stories together and the traits shown through their characters. Some major themes that are used between the two are leadership, determination and faith. One major theme in The Prince of Egypt that relates to the BAIL story of Joseph is determination. The story of Joseph is about Jacob s son Joseph and how his brothers despised him. Joseph always had a dream that one day his brothers would be looking up to him, and that he was someone very important. His brothers were very angry and they sent him to Egypt and took his tunic and dipped it in goat s blood. Geological Structures Within The Earth Geology Geological structures within the earth can determine a multitude of variables when determining such things as formations, permeability, porosity, lithology, mineralogy, saturation and normal/abnormal/subnormal pressure which in turn can provide the necessary information for reservoir pay zones. The foundation for hydrocarbons is based off of the organic theory which states that the hydrocarbons formed through an anaerobic environment (lacking oxygen) over time with high pressures and relatively low temperatures (300В°F 392В°F) with carbon based materials such as algae. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Petroleum engineers deal only with sedimentary basin rocks in oil and gas drilling, and these sedimentary rocks are types of rock that are formed by the deposition of material at the Earth s surface and within bodies of water. Permeability in these rock is a measure of the ease with which fluid flows through a porous rock, and is a function of the degree of interconnection between the pores. Permeability can be separated into three parts: absolute, effective, and relative. Absolute is when pore spaces are 100% saturated with the same fluid, effective is when the permeability of a flowing phase that does not saturate 100% of the rock, and relative which is the ratio of effective permeability to absolute permeability of the same rock. When permeability is low the degree at which fluids can flow through the rock is low and therefore not a good means of producing hydrocarbons. Even if a reservoir has a high saturation, a low permeable rock will have no means of obtaining the porous medium. However this is not the only cause with saturations of rock. The irreducible water saturation also plays a part in the production of hydrocarbons. This is when water is held against the rock grains by surface tension and cannot be produced which is determined by grain structure, i.e. size and mixture. Teachers experience and training in working with students with ADHD would exhibit moderate positive relationships with their knowledge of ADHD, knowledge of treatments for ADHD, and ratings of treatment acceptability. Unfortunately some general education teachers have little to no training in teaching students with ADHD successfully. The teachers who had more information and training about ADHD and teaching techniques were found to be more likely to use the strategies and meet the academic needs of diagnosed students than teachers who had not received training (Glass, 2001). Medication and ADHD Throughout most research, teachers are shown to have different views on using medication for treatment of ADHD. Many believe that the popularity of ADHD is due to the endorsement of the medical profession; the doctors influence decision making in the government which then results in the popularization of the concept and the ever widening boundaries of its definition (Timimi, 2005). Who Is Henry Fuseli Nightmarish Henry Fuseli: Nightmarish The Enlightenment in art history is best known for promoting reasoning and rationality just as much as it favored beauty and social progress. However, Henry Fuseli, who sought to portray human irrationality, often challenged Enlightenment ideals with his work (Cothren, Stockstad). Painted in 1771 and exhibited at the Royal Academyof London in 1772, Fuseli sought to make a name for himself with his composition The Nightmare(Tate). The painting leaves its audience with a dark sense of wonder and intrigue. Fuseli captured an audience during a time in which patrons had favored easily understood concepts over complex imagery drawn from history or mythology (Cothren, Stockstad). Fuseli pushed many boundaries and artistic expectations set in this period with sexually charged compositions and dark tones in narrative. Contentious for its time, The Nightmare is a classical painting which hinges upon Fuseli s own sexual desires, potentially unrequited love, and folklore of the period. Certainly, Henry Fuselis romanticized gothic style both shocked and awed his audience. However, Fuseli did not always intend to be an artist. Though he was one of eighteen children with a father who devoted his life to both creating and collecting art, becoming an artist was not Henry Fuseli s initial pursuit. By: Amy Rashid Over the years, there has been a growth of new religious movements in the society. This growth can be explained in terms of why people chose to join the movements or in terms of wider social changes. Hence, in this essay, I shall discuss several sociological explanations for this occurrence. Firstly, Steve Bruce (1995, 1996) attributes the development of a range of religious institutions, including sects and cults, to a general process of modernization and secularization. He believes the weakness of more conventional institutionalized religions has encouraged some people to consider less traditional alternatives. As modern societies ... Thus showing that world rejecting new religious movement attracted the youth with its idealistic, spiritual and caring way of life. Furthermore, this may be supported by Steve Bruce (1995) who saw world rejecting movements as having a particular appeal to the young. Many became disillusioned by the failure of the counter culture in the 1960s to radically change the world. Drugs and exploitation of the movement disintegrated the hippie culture, and thus these disillusioned youths turned to religion as a path to salvation rather than religion. An example of this would be the International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON), which is also popularly known as Hare Krishna . ISKCON is based in Hinduism and they worship the hindu god, Krishna as the Supreme God. Hare Krishnas are also known for their public singing and dancing and distribution of materials including their magazine, Back to Godhead. ISKCON is actively evangelistic, with the goal of spreading God consciousness throughout the world. Notable followers of this movement would be the Beatles. Employee Performance And Achievement Of Organisational Goals 1 Introduction: 1.1 Background: Employee behaviours could often have an impact on organisational performance and achievement of organisational goals. In any organisation, its members could display varied behaviour where minimalists would contribute just enough to maintain affiliation while others may exhibit overt and discretionary behaviour which is beyond their stipulated job description and likely to benefit the organisation (Turnipseed and Rassuli: 2005). This latter behaviour where the employee goes the extra mile proactively engaging in such activities has been described by various nomenclatures such as Organisational Citizenship Behaviour (OCB) by Organ (1988) as cited in Organ (1997), pro social organisational behaviour (Brief and Motowidlo: 1986), contextual performance (Borman and Motowidlo: 1993) and extra role behaviour (Van Dyne et al: 1995). OCB has been one of the important and popular research subjects in the recent years. It emphasizes on the most preferred employee level outcomes at workplace (Bateman and Organ 1983, Smith et al 1983, Anderson and Williams: 1996). Although the concept of OCB was proposed by Bateman and Organ in the early 1980s, the origins of this concept could be traced back to early 1960s when Katz recognized three distinct behavioural entities for the proficient functioning of an organisation. This includes induction and retention of the workforce in the organisation, employees performing specific dependable job roles in addition to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 29. The Impact of the Internet on the Production,... The creation of the web was not only a revolutionary movement but also acted as a door for endless opportunities in the music industry. Its ability alone to provide the general public with continuous information is astounding, but it also acts a platform for users to access, distribute and produce music. According to Andrew P.S (2006, 1), the internet was not created with a business mentality but as the years went by it began and continues to be moulded into a continuous path where consumers grasp the aptitude to which they could discover incessant possibilities online such as the access to music. Evidently, the internet solely acts as a huge factor in the shaping of the music industry today, more positively than negatively. Below, we... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... O.C Ferrell and Michael D.H (2007: 373) argues that the introduction of a peer to peer website known as Napster allowed online users to share their high quality MP3 digital copies of music recordings through its MusicShare software. With the materialization of such a progressive online distributing site, internet users were rapidly drawn to its straightforward methods of downloading music. Indeed, so many college students were downloading songs from Napster that many universities were forced to block the site from their system in order to regain bandwidth. O.C. Ferrell and Michael D.H. Granting Napster took on the role of providing the society with immense music downloads, it also caused a lot of dispute involving the RIAA which sued the site for violating copyright laws. With such a revolutionary platform such as the internet, users all over the globe are rapidly getting access to it. According to the IDC and the Internet World Statistics, during December 1995 there was a mere 16 million internet users. As the statistics were taken on March 2012, there was a staggering 2,280 million internet users. • 30. “White Man’s Burden” Essay Rudyard Kipling s 1899 poem The White Man s Burden epitomizes the European man s view on imperialism, Euro centrism and social Darwinism. Four centuries before 1899, such ideas were briefly hinted in the letter from Christopher Columbus to King Ferdinand and Queen Isabella, however by 1899 these attitudes strengthened and developed fully into their complete meaning. The U.S and Europe s imperialism in the nineteenth century were the most influential ever in the history of human civilization. The immense motive for imperialism came from social factors including religion and Social Darwinism. Missionaries frequently rushed to Africa and Asia to convert its people to Christianity. On the other hand, social Darwinism argued the survival of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Taking care indicates improvement of their culture until they reach that of the Euro American standards which makes it clear that The White man s Burden proposes that the phase after exploration is the self centered education of the colonial population. The same month Kipling s poem was published, the Treaty of Paris was ratified and the Philippines, Puerto Rico, and Guam were acquired by the United States while Cuba remained occupied by the military. Advocates of this acquisition gravitated to the poem and popularized it as the literary voice of benevolent assimilation. The poem makes clear Kipling s view of attitudes that allowed colonialism to proceed. Although a belief in the virtues of empire was widespread at the time, there were also many dissenters; the publication of the poem caused a flurry of arguments from both sides, most notably from Mark Twain and Henry James. Mark Twain asserted that Kipling wrote the poem to help persuade many doubting Americans to seize the Philippines, which seemed to be a fair point of view for that time period. In the New York Herald, October 15, 1900, Twain describes his transformation and political awakening, in the context of the Philippine American War. He recognizes his transformation from being Pro imperialist to Anti imperialist. • 31. Toyota Unintended Acceleration Case Study A Case Study on Toyota Unintended Acceleration Toyota s Unintended Acceleration disaster could have been avoided if the software engineers had practiced proper software development steps. Numerous lessons, both technical and managerial can be learned from this software catastrophe. Three crucial lessons include: ensuring the proper implementation of fail safes, adherence to rigorous coding standards (MISRA C), and minimizing software complexity. The first incident of unwanted acceleration occurred in 2003. However, this was not reported to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) until five years later. And it was not until 2004 that the NHTSA actively began investigating certain Toyota models. These investigations were eventually deemed inconclusive due to the lack of resources (rather than actual evidence) to investigate further (Bagnara, 2014). Over the next three years a series of investigations open up, but once again have been deemed inconclusive due to lack of administrative resources (Bagnara, 2014). In 2007, the acceleration issues are associated with faulty floor mats getting caught beneath the pedals causing the vehicle to accelerate uncontrollable. Toyota begins issuing recalls soon after. Two years later, a fatal accident occurs involving the death of four people which was again linked to defective floor mats. However, it was quickly becoming evident that not all the fault can be blamed on floor mats. In 2010, Toyota reveals that the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Risk taking will always occur throughout life however teens are more prone to it due to the influences from their peers, coolest status, and media. I also find it interesting how you became a member of the fire department at such a young age and how it helped influence part of your decision making. Personally, I did not have the same experience as you did because I was never shown or explained on why I should be more careful with the things that I do like driving. I was one of those adolescents who wanted to fit in with my friends that I did do some reckless things like racing on a highway. Now I know how bad and stupid that was but at the time I had not been thinking about the possible consequences for my actions, I just wanted to win and make my friends in my car think I was cool.... I also agree that teens would most likely make better decisions if someone talk or show them why some of their actions are wrong and how to avoid some influences from their peers. He created the tango genre called nuevo tango which incorporates jazz and tango which is the new tango style. This style requires more instruments than the traditional tango. Ever since tango lost its popularity around 1950s and 1960s, Piazzolla was considered to be the saviour of tango due to the creation of nuevo tango. The traditional tango was designed as dancing music, and not merely for listening. Furthermore, traditional tango was mainly played by the poor and the lower middle class. As such, in 1950s, tango started losing its creativity and popularity. Since then, tango was studied but no longer played to fulfill its original purpose. In fact, new tango music was not allowed to be melodic due to its usage of protestant and the expression of power. Nonetheless, Piazzolla developed the new tango in 1955 and it gained popularity through upper middle class and tourists.
