This is a presentation by Dada Robert in a Your Skill Boost masterclass organised by the Excellence Foundation for South Sudan (EFSS) on Saturday, the 25th and Sunday, the 26th of May 2024.
He discussed the concept of quality improvement, emphasizing its applicability to various aspects of life, including personal, project, and program improvements. He defined quality as doing the right thing at the right time in the right way to achieve the best possible results and discussed the concept of the "gap" between what we know and what we do, and how this gap represents the areas we need to improve. He explained the scientific approach to quality improvement, which involves systematic performance analysis, testing and learning, and implementing change ideas. He also highlighted the importance of client focus and a team approach to quality improvement.
The Roman Empire A Historical Colossus.pdfkaushalkr1407
The Roman Empire, a vast and enduring power, stands as one of history's most remarkable civilizations, leaving an indelible imprint on the world. It emerged from the Roman Republic, transitioning into an imperial powerhouse under the leadership of Augustus Caesar in 27 BCE. This transformation marked the beginning of an era defined by unprecedented territorial expansion, architectural marvels, and profound cultural influence.
The empire's roots lie in the city of Rome, founded, according to legend, by Romulus in 753 BCE. Over centuries, Rome evolved from a small settlement to a formidable republic, characterized by a complex political system with elected officials and checks on power. However, internal strife, class conflicts, and military ambitions paved the way for the end of the Republic. Julius Caesar’s dictatorship and subsequent assassination in 44 BCE created a power vacuum, leading to a civil war. Octavian, later Augustus, emerged victorious, heralding the Roman Empire’s birth.
Under Augustus, the empire experienced the Pax Romana, a 200-year period of relative peace and stability. Augustus reformed the military, established efficient administrative systems, and initiated grand construction projects. The empire's borders expanded, encompassing territories from Britain to Egypt and from Spain to the Euphrates. Roman legions, renowned for their discipline and engineering prowess, secured and maintained these vast territories, building roads, fortifications, and cities that facilitated control and integration.
The Roman Empire’s society was hierarchical, with a rigid class system. At the top were the patricians, wealthy elites who held significant political power. Below them were the plebeians, free citizens with limited political influence, and the vast numbers of slaves who formed the backbone of the economy. The family unit was central, governed by the paterfamilias, the male head who held absolute authority.
Culturally, the Romans were eclectic, absorbing and adapting elements from the civilizations they encountered, particularly the Greeks. Roman art, literature, and philosophy reflected this synthesis, creating a rich cultural tapestry. Latin, the Roman language, became the lingua franca of the Western world, influencing numerous modern languages.
Roman architecture and engineering achievements were monumental. They perfected the arch, vault, and dome, constructing enduring structures like the Colosseum, Pantheon, and aqueducts. These engineering marvels not only showcased Roman ingenuity but also served practical purposes, from public entertainment to water supply.

2. Style sheet
DAVID
Berlin Sans FB

Lucida Console
Georgia
Rockwell

Bold
Eras Demi ITC
These are the main fonts I think I will use in my end product. These fonts will be used
in everything except the title of the game. The title’s font is the screenshot at the
bottom of the slide and is known as ‘This Night’. I put the temporary title in to see
what it looked like and it looks good. However my personal favourite font is the
Lucida Console as the letters are spaced out quite well and will suit my game.
However there’s two others that I like, Rockwell and Georgia. These fonts would be
put into my game as headings for either a scoreboard or a message during the
animation. The others that are ones that could be used just incase I lose the font or
the font doesn’t work on Photoshop.
In my end product there’s going to a mixture of different colours which will be used throughout the
animation/game. I will mainly use the green colours because of the level landscapes I’m going to do
and the blue colours for the skies in the levels. The main colours I will use are green, blue, dark blue,
brown and maybe yellow. The connotations of these colours are mainly happiness, love and desire.
However some colours have the meaning of war and danger. That’s why I won’t include the colour red
in my game because I don’t want to recommend war in my game. These colours will hopefully bring
happiness and joy to my audience that play the game. Green represents peace and freshness, blue
presents trust and loyalty. These are examples of colours that I want in my game that can make my
audience feel these different ways. I will use different shades of blue in the background.
3. Layout 1
There are three different parts to this potential design. The title the character and the level as a background. I found the
background image on the internet and used dafont for choosing the font used in the title of my game. I typed in ‘2D level
designs’ to see what came up and similar designs came up such as Layout 1. I downloaded the font and made it transparent
so it doesn’t look badly placed. And I did the same with the character, got it off the internet and got rid of the white
background to make it look better.
My audience I think would like this design because it’s simple and doesn’t look too hard to play. My target audience is aged
7 and above which means there’s a massive variety of different people that could play the game. From my quantitative
research the first question asks about what gender people are answering my survey. The percentage of this question was
100% male which means that my audience are all males that answered my questions. This also means that I will have to aim
my product at a male’s perspective and what they would want in my game.
4. Layout 2
I did a very similar concept to the previous layout. I got the 2D level design off the internet and put it behind the character and the title. However
when it comes to making the proper design for my level I will make it myself and not get it from the internet. The title was just copy and pasted
from the previous layout and put into the same spot.
If I was making my proper design I would include a scoreboard with a time, score and level.
I think my audience will like this idea because it isn’t too complex for a game that’s aimed at young people. If I was to make two levels in my
animation, this is what it would look like. I would try to make it look similar however put my own ideas into it. My quantitative research included
questions about gaming genres and consoles people play on. The most popular answers from those questions were ‘adventure’ which got most
votes and there was a mixed variety of answers for consoles as it was multiple choice. Actually, both questions were multiple choice that’s why
the percentages are added over 100%. PlayStation got most votes however there were a few different consoles mentioned in the ‘other’ section.
I’ve made it so it’s available for phone because it would have been difficult to build a game made for Xbox or PS4 as I would have had to include
controls and other settings.
5. Story Boards
Majority of these shot sizes are long shots. The first amount are made from a certain distance away which makes the viewpoint better. This part
of the storyboard has no characters / or a sight of life in them, it’s just what the level could look like from a distance. The third picture that I
designed has mountains compared to the other two which I think would be good in the background of the level design. This would happen at the
start of the level going through different stages of the level however this could change when making the proper product.
The second part of the storyboard is where the character gets involved in the level. It starts off in the hills, moves onto a lake and then into a
forest. These are shot from the distance or known as being taken as a distance shot. This is when the character starts his story of saving a long-
lost brother of his.

7. Contingency Planning
Potential Issue Solution
Work gets lost Have some backup files just in case. Save the
same file twice and name one backup just in
case you lose it.
Sound or music corrupts. Make sure you have saved the sounds or music
on a computer or hard drive just in case it
corrupts.
Fonts go missing. Have the downloads for the fonts in a file on
your computer or hard drive so you can add
them back without finding it again on the
internet.
Some of the music is copyrighted. When looking for music, search ‘royalty free
music’ and choose from the options that come
up.
Forgot hard drive with all saved work on it. Remember when it’s a day of either editing or
making the product to bring the memory stick
every time otherwise you go a day behind.
Can’t access work Have two of the same file or email the file so
there’s another backup option.
8. Health and Safety
Potential Issue How will the issue be
avoided?
Headache Take some time off the computer or have a rest
or rest your eyes.
Back Problems Rest, sit and the chair properly
Computer overheats Give yourself a break and do some work later
on.
Been on the computer too long, looking at the
screen too much.
Rest your eyes, go for a nap
Spilled drink goes over the computer. Don’t have food or drink near a computer or
parts of a computer.
Trip hazards and fire hazards. This can cause people to trip over and hurt themselves. They
could trip over computer wires and things left around the
computers. The fire hazards could be the computer setting on
fire and people could get hurt. To avoid this don’t leave things
lying around and don’t make the computer set on fire.
