This document provides first aid guidelines for snake bites. It outlines common signs and symptoms of snake bites such as pain, swelling, increased heart rate, and numbness. For first aid, it recommends ensuring the scene is safe, reassuring the victim, removing tight clothing, immobilizing the bitten area, and promptly transporting the victim to a health facility. Actions to avoid include panicking, trying to harm the snake, cutting the wound, applying a tourniquet or ice, sucking the venom, or giving anything by mouth.

1. FIRST AID FOR SNAKE BITE

2. INTRODUCTION :
• Humans can be victims of snake bite accidently.
• There are venomous and non-venomous snakes in the world.
• Most of the snakes are non venomous but need careful
prevention and treatment.

3. SIGNS AND SYMPTOMS
• Pain
• Redness
• Fang marks / Two puncture
wound
• Swelling
• Increase heart rate
• Nausea
• Sweating
• Bleeding
• Restless
• Blurred vision
• Breathing difficulty
• Numbness

4. FIRST AID MEASURES:
• Scene safety
• Make sure the environment is safe for
the victim and first aid provider.
• Move away from the area where the bite
occurred.
• Reassure- Reassure the victim that many
snake bites are caused by non-
venomous snakes.
• Even the risk of death is not immediate
if venomous snake bites also.

5. • Remove tight fitting
• Remove anything that is tight
objects from of the body as these
can cause harm if swelling occurs
e.g.: rings, anklets, bracelets etc.

completely by applying a
splint to the limb to keep it
still.

7. TRANSPORT
• Transport the person to a health facility as soon as possible.

9. WHAT NOT TO DO
• Do not panic as it will increase the heart
rate and blood loss.
• Do not try to kill or harm the snakes.
• Do not cut the wound as it may increase
the chance of infection.
• Do not use a tight arterial tourniquet as it
may interfere the circulation.

10. • Do not suck the venom of the wound as it will
risk a venomous effect to the provider.
• Do not apply ice on the wound as it may
• increase the damage.
• Do not give anything to mouth eg- Alcoholic
beverages, caffeine etc.
• Do not follow traditional first aid methods
(herbal etc.) and other unsafe forms of first aid.
