This document provides instructions and examples for a visual arts final exam. Students must create 2 drawings, each demonstrating a different element or principle of art. The elements include line, shape, texture, color, value, and space. The principles include pattern, rhythm, movement, balance, emphasis, contrast, repetition, proportion, and unity. Sample drawings are provided exemplifying principles like pattern, movement, contrast and balance. Students are reminded to identify the element/principle in their work and describe how they used it. Planning in sketchbooks is allowed during the exam.

Repetition:
Circles are
repeated to
create
patterns.

make your eye move down the line.

9. Pattern: Repetition of circles that create unity.

10. Contrast: Warm color vs. cool color make lines stand out.
Line: Curvy wave flowing from the top to bottom

11. Balance: Equal distribution of colors and lines
on both sides of drawing.
Symmetrical:
Same on both
sides.
Asymmetrical:
Different when
you split in half

Emphasis: Darker & thicker lines in front stand out.

13. Value: Light to dark range of colors.

14. Geometric Shape: Circles, rectangles,
squares, and rigid lines.

15. Organic Shape: free flowing and curvy lines

16. Space: Giving an illusion of depth or a sense of
distance or dimension.

17. Color: Light, dark, bold, or dull.
