As colleges recognize the opportunities and advantages technology brings to the face-to-face and virtual classroom, the distinction between those who provide instructional design, IT, and academic development support blurs. Quality faculty support requires an understanding of adult learning and a focused approach to reducing unnessary faculty effort. Simple tools such as learning object repositories provide an array of resources that can make things easier for faculty and college's support teams. The presenters will discuss techniques for successfully supporting faculty in the virtual classroom including certification training, the use of open labs, workshop formats, and virtual meeting/training tools.
I attended the Pittsburgh Summer LearnLab at Carnegie Mellon over the summer (2016). The work that I did over the week of the LearnLab went into this presentation. I conducted two linear regression models, two support vector classification models, a hierarchical clustering analytics, and a Latent Class Analysis.

The use of technology-enhanced learning (TEL) tools can bring great potential to enhance both students’ and instructors’ experiential learning, but only if they are appropriately adopted (Baneres et. al., 2015). With the challenges of online teaching, it is crucial for instructors to customise their lessons to holistically cover the learning outcomes while ensuring a deeper level of engagement among diverse learners. In this workshop, participants will be exploring some significant stages of selecting appropriate TEL tools in their lessons.

This presentation was given at the 7th Learning Analytics and Knowledge conference (2017) in Vancouver, BC. It presents the trends and issues in student-facing learning analytics reporting research as identified by a literature review including over 90 articles.

Gareth provides an update on delivering flipped learning (to include changes and developments since year 1), and utilizing Lecture Capture and Google Community, in an undergraduate law module.
Presented at the ELI 2015 conference. In an effort to improve the quantity and quality of online and blended courses taught at Purdue University North Central, a new program was put into place in fall 2014. Based on research in the value of peer mentoring in academic settings, a group of faculty mentors with extensive experience teaching with technology were paired with others who are just getting started. This presentation will describe the program structure, as well as the successes and challenges of the program from the faculty point of view, in order to assist other institutions in exploring similar models for improved faculty development.

Elements of exemplary course design are well documented and readily accessible from various resources. Most notable are the Blackboard Exemplary Course Program (http://bit.ly/2jCURRd) and the Quality Matters Rubrics and Standards (http://bit.ly/2jdtwTG). While these are excellent resources that outlines the goals and standards to improve the learning experience of students in an online or blended course environment, workload associated with its deployment and management is difficult to evaluate.
With increasing strain on teaching and learning support teams within institutions, this exacerbates the challenge faced by instructors and academics of HOW to approach improving their courses in a scalable and manageable way.
This workshop will focus on facilitating participants in the development of a course evolution and management framework. The goal is to guide participants in establishing a unique set of foundations for course design, upon which iterative improvements can be planned and executed in a manageable manner. These can then be mapped against relevant Exemplary Course Design Rubric elements to create short-, mid-, and long-term milestones.
There are numerous models for preparing faculty to develop and deliver online courses. This session examines two very different yet successful models used at diverse institutions and presents the advantages and disadvantages of each.

I want to thank everyone who gave up some of their Sunday afternoon. Our purpose today is to share some of the ideas successes and missteps we have encountered in our quest to provide high quality responsive faculty support for the virtual classroom. Macomb Community College is located in Eastern Metro Detroit with at least 26,000 students. David Rausch—As the Director for the Center for Teaching and Learning my responsibilities include our virtual learning area, our instructional technology area and our assessment and academic success areas. Melanie Bartlett-As the Assistant Director of Virtual Learning I focus my energies in the creation, development and delivery of training and learning content to assist faculty in using the virtual classroom.
