Pea (Pisum sativum) is a winter vegetable in plains and summer vegetable in hills. There are three types based on growth habit: bush, medium tall, and tall/pole. The tender seeds are the economic part. Varieties are grouped into round seeded or smooth seeded and wrinkled seeded. Round seeded varieties tolerate higher temperatures better. Popular Indian varieties include Ooty 1, Arkel, Jawahar Matar 1-5, and Pantnagar Matar 2. Ooty 1 yields 11.1 t/ha under rainfed conditions and is resistant to whitefly. Arkel yields 100q/ha of pods and 15q/ha of seeds in 100 days. Jawah
