PEAS
Garden Pea: ( Pisum sativum var. hortense )
 It is also called table pea. In this type, young, green seeds are
used mostly in vegetables and also for canning purposes.
Seeds are bold and wrinkled. The plants are generally white
flowered. Leaf axils are generally green. Seeds are yellowish,
whitish or bluish green.
Field Pea: (Pisum sativum var. arvense )
 In this type, the ripe, mature seeds are used as pulse(dal). They
are also grown as a forage or green manure crop. These are
hardy and grown on large scale without irrigation. Can also
withstand frost . Seeds are round and little angular. They have
coloured flowers . Leaf axils are often pigmented. Seeds are
grayish green, grayish brown and grayish yellow.
Arkel:
 Plants are dwarf, first flower appears in about 30 days after
sowing.
 It takes 60-65 days to first picking.
 Pods are well filled and attractive. Three harvesting is done.
 Average green pod yield is about 50-60 q/ha.
Meteor:
 Plants are 35-40 cm tall, dark green, flowers borne generally
singly, dark green pods, 8 cm long, well filled with 7 seeds,
having shelling percentage 45.
 It is round seeded early variety introduced from England.
 It is sweet and gives the first harvest in about 70 days in Delhi.
Asauji:
 It is and early dwarf plant with dark green seeds, curved, about
7.5 cm long and filled with 6-7 smooth seeds per pod. The
pods are ready to harvest in about 60 days.
Bonnevile:
 It is an mid season variety introduced from America. Plants are
medium tall, flowers in 55-60 days after sowing with two pods
per peduncle.
 Pods are light green , straight, 9 cm long.
 Average pod yield of 85 q/ha with 45% of shelling.
 Seeds are green and wrinkled.
Sylvia:
 Introduced edible poded variety suitable for kitchen garden.
 Pods are curved, yellowish green without parchment.
N.P. 29:
 It is a wrinkled seeded variety, very tasty and pods are ready to
harvest after 100-110 DAS.
 It is suitable for dehydration.
Pusa Shree
 Fusarium wilt resistant early variety of garden pea.
 It is also tolerant to high temperature environment
prevalent in north Indian plains and lower hills at the time of
early sowing (October).
 Harvesting time 50–55 days after sowing in early October.
 Pod yield 4.5–5.0 t/ha during early sowing and 9.0–10.0 t/ha
in normal sowing (November) condition.
Pusa Prabhat (DDR 23):
 Suitable for irrigated and rainfed situations
 Average seed yield is 15.5 q/ha
 It is dwarf, extra early maturing (average 102 days)
 It is a powdery mildew resistant variety
Pusa Mukta (DDR 55) :
 Yield : 2.5t/ha
 A bold seeded variety having resistant to powdery mildew.
 It matures in 110-115 days.
Pusa Panna (DDR 27) :
 Yield : 1.7t/ha
 It is a dwarf, extra-early (90 days) and powdery mildew
resistant variety.
Arka Karthik :
 This is a mid season variety developed at IIHR and released at
the Institute level during 2001.
 It is resistant to both powdery mildew and rust and suitable
for freezing. Pod yields 11 tonnes per ha. in 90 days. The pods
are 10.5 – 11.0 cm long, seeds bold, light green and sweet.
Arka Pramodh
 Mid-season pea variety; pods are medium long (8.0 cm) and
slightly flattish round, mature in 65 days; seeds are bold,
round, dark green and very sweet.
 Resistant to powdery mildew and rust; pod yield 12 t/ha in
90 days
Arka Ajit:
 Developed through back cross and pedigree method of
selection involving the Parents Bonneville, IIHR 209 &
Freezer 656.
 Pods 8-9 cm long Seeds bold, green and sweet Shelling
percent 55. A mid season garden pea Combined resistance to
powdery mildew and rust Duration 90 days.
 Pod Yield 10 t/ha.
Arka Priya:
 Mid-season variety; pods are round, medium long (8 cm),
mature in 65 days; seeds are round, medium bold, dark green
and very sweet; resistant to powdery mildew and rust; pod
yield 12 t/ha in 90 days.
Arka Sampoorna:
 It is a whole pod edible mid season pea variety developed at
IIHR. Pods mature in 55 days.
 Pods are light green, medium long, with less parchment in the
pod walls and medium sweet and crisp.
 The pods are edible at any stage of development. Seeds are
medium bold, sweet. Pod yield 8 t/ha in 85 days.
Arka Harini :
 Early variety , suitable for both kharif and rabi .
 Pods are straight and round with dark green ,bold and sweet
seeds developed by pedigree method of selection from F6
generation involving (IIHR 103 X Arka pramodh ) .
 Pod yield is 8 t/ha in 60 days
Arka nirmal :
 Early variety , suitable for both kharif and rabi .
 Pods are short round and straight seeds are dark green and
bold ,developed by pedigree method of selection from F6
generation involving (IIHR 103 X Arka pramodh )
 Pod yield is 8.5 t/ha in 60 days.
Arka Tapas:
 Medium tall , mid season variety , tolerant to high temparature
(upto 35oc )
 Pods are short and dark green colored .
 Seeds are dark green round in shape and sweet developed by
pedigree method of selection from F6 generation involving
( Arka pramodh X Oregon sugar) X Arka priya
 Pod yield is 6 t/ha in 90 days .
Arka Mayur:
 Early variety , suitable for both kharif and rabi .
 Pods are short, staright and oval . Seeds are dark green ,bold
and sweet developed by pedigree method of selection from F6
generation involving ( IIHR 105 xArka pramodh ) x oregon
sugar.
 Pod yield is 8 t/ha in 60 days.
Arka chaithra:
 Tall , mid season variety , tolerant to high temparature (upto
35oc)
 Pods are long and light green coloured.
 Seeds are light green round in shape and sweet .
 Developed by pedigree method of selection from F6 generation
involving ( Arka ajit X Arka Sampoorna) X (Arka Pramodh X
Oregon Sugar ).
 Pod yield is 7 t/ha in 90 days
Arka Uttam :
 Tall , mid season variety , tolerant to high temparature (upto
35oc) pods are long and dark green colored
 Seeds are dark green, round in shape and sweet .
 Developed by pedigree method of selection from F6
generation involving ( Arka ajit X Arka Sampoorna) X (Arka
Pramodh X Oregon Sugar ).
 Pod yield is 7 t/ha in 90 days .
Kashi Nandini
 This is an early maturing variety developed through pedigree
selection from the cross P 1542 x VT-2-1.
 Plant height is 47-51 cm, first flowering at 32 days after sowing,
bears 7-8 pods per plant.
 Pods are 8-9 cm long, attractive, length 8-9 cm, well filled with 8-9
seeds, shelling percentage 47-48; yield 110-120 q/ha. It is tolerant
to leaf miner and pod borer.
Kashi Mukti
 It is an early maturing powdery mildew resistant variety developed
through pedigree selection from the cross No. 7 x PM-5.
 Plant height is 50-53 cm and 50% plants bear flowers at 35-36 days
after sowing. Pods are 8.5-9 cm long, attractive filled with 8-9
bold soft textured seeds, selling percentage 48-49 and yield 110-120
q/ha.
Kashi Samridhi:
 New high yielding and resistant to powdery mildew pea
variety.
 It is a tolerant to leaf minor and pod borer.
 A new addition to late-maturing group, Kashi Samridhi is ideal
for U.P, Bihar, Jharkhand and Punjab.
Pant Uphar :
 This variety is of intermediate duration between early cultivar
Arkel and late maturing cultivar Bonneville.
Pant Matar-2 :
 This is an early maturing variety. The first green pod picking is
possible after 60 days of sowing. This variety is equivalent to
Arkel in maturity duration and other features and gives about
10 percent higher yield than Arkel.
 The yield potential is about 100 q/ha.
Pant Sabji Matar-3 :
 Pods are long curved and well filled.
 Seeds are wrinkled with green seed coat colour.
 The first picking of green pods in 60-65 day and thus Pant
Sabji Matar-3 is of Arkel duration and belongs to early
maturity group of pea varieties.
Pant Sabji Matar-4 :
 It is an early variety (70 days to green pod picking) and
resistant to powdery mildew. It is leafless type. Yield is 90
q/ha.
Pant Sabji Matar-5
 It is an early maturing variety and gives first picking in 60-65
days after sowing.
 Plants are dwarf (65 cm) with green foliage.
 Pods are long and curved toward the tip.
 Seeds are wrinkled and green at maturity stage.
 Average green pod yield is 90-100 q/ha. This variety is
resistant to powdery mildew
Ooty-1:
 Developed at Udhagamandalam through pure line selection
from the accession PS 33.
 It is a dwarf type having yield potential of 11.9 t/ha in 90 days
crop duration.
 It is resistant to white fly
FRENCH BEANS
French bean varieties are of two types ;
 Dwarf or bush types
 Climbing or pole types.
Dwarf or Bush varieties:
CONTENDER:
 This is an introduction from USA.
 This is an early variety, developed at IARI, New Delhi.
 Plant busy with pink flower.
 Pods are stringless and dark green in colour and seeds
oval in shape.
 The variety has been found to be resistant to mosaic and
powderymildew.
 Yield 20t/ha.
GAINT STRINGLESS:
 This variety was developed at IARI,New Delhi.
 Early, pods are green medium size slightly curved and
stringless.
 The seeds are glossy and yellowish brown.
JAMPA:
 This is a Mexican variety, suitable to grow in
Maharashtra.
 This is very early variety, pods are available for first
picking 50 days after sowing.
 Pods flat, smooth, non –stringy and pale green in colour.
 It is resistant to wilt and can grow successfully in
warmer climate.
PUSA PARVATI:
 This is an outcome of mutation breeding(cv.wax pod,
and American Variety)done at IARI,New Delhi.
 The variety is early. Plant bushy with pink flowers.
 This is high yielding and most suitable for hills.
 Resistant to mosaic and powdery mildew.
 Yield 22-25t/ha.
NDVP 8:
 This variety was developed at NDUA& T, Faizabad.
 Mid season variety with pod yield of 105q/ha
BOUNTIFUL:
 This variety is high yielding, suitable to grow from September
to February in South India.
 On main stem, pods form in cluster. Pods are tender green,
available for harvesting within a week of flowering.
 The pods remain for long period even when left unharvested.
PANT ANUPAMA:
 The variety was developed by GBPUA&T, Pantnagar.
 This is early maturing variety, suitable for both hills and
plains.
 Plant bushy and dwarf with concentrated fruiting.
LAXMI:
 Pods are formed in clusters of three, 13-14cm long, stringless
,green round and attractive.
 Pods ready for picking in 65-70 days.
 Seeds white in colour with light yellow scar.
 Average yield of green pod yield is 120-140q/ha.
 Tolerant to angular leaf spot.
PREMIER:
 This variety suitable for the plains of Tamil Nadu.
 This is less susceptible to wilt and mosaic. Seeds black in
colour.
VL-BONI-1:
 This variety has been developed at VPKAS, Almora.
 Plants dwarf(30-40cm) having white flower with purple
tinged.
 Pods are round, light green, attractive , stringless and
fleshy.
 First picking starts at 45-60 days.
 Suits for multi cropping and can be planted in the hills
from march to July.
 Yield 100-120q/ha.
YED 1:
 Bushy, dual purpose variety suitable for kharif season.
 Pods slightly flat,15cm long.
 Tolerant to root rot, rust, yellow mosaic and anthracnose.
 Yield of green pods 97.5q/ha.
OOTY 1:
 This is released by by TNAU, Tamil Nadu.
 It has yield potential of 340q/ha of green pods in a
duration of 80 days.
 This is moderately resistant to leaf spot, anthracnose and
pod borer.
PHULE SUREKHA:
 It has been developed from Jampa improved variety by
employing pure line selection.
 It is released by MPKVV, Rahuri.
 It is semi-determinate variety.
 Its pods are straight flat with average length of 9.25cm and
breadth 1.07cm.
 It suits for kharif, rabi and summer seasons(photo-thermo-
insensitive).
 It is specifically bread for small straight edible pods and
resistant to anthracnose, leaf crinkle, bean yellow mosaic
virus and wilt(caused by stem fly attack).
 It gives highest yield of (153-39q/ha)which was 53.68%
higher than contender.
KASHI PURAM:
 Its plant determinate in height ,grow 70cm high and are
bush type, with dark green leaves.
 It is developed by IIVR, Varanasi.
 Its pods attractive, fleshy, average length 14.7cm, round
and dark green.
 Its green yield 120-140q/ha, suitable for cultivation in
Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Uttraanchal,
Madhya Pradesh and Maharastra.
NDVP10:
 This variety was developed by NDAU & T, Faziabad,
UP.
 A mid season variety with pod yield of 100q/ha.
ARKA KOMAL: (SELECTION-9)
 Introduced bushy variety from Afghanistan.
 The plants are erect and bushy. The pods are straight and flat.
It can tolerate long distance transportation.
 It has better yield performance than Pusa Parvati.
ARKA SUBIDHA ( IIHR 909)
 Plants are bushy and photosensitive.
 Pods are straight and oval, light green , stringless and fleshy.
 Yields 9 t/ha in 70 days.
ARKAANOOP:
 The plants are bushy and photo insensitive. It can be grown
during all the three seasons. Its pods are ready for picking 45
DAS.
 Pods are flat ,smooth, long (17-18 cm) and crisp with less
parchment , the yield potential being 20 t/ha in 70 days. It is
resistant to both rust and bacterial blight diseases.
TKD 1:
 Developed by TNAU, Tamil Nadu.
 It is a hybrid derivative of a cross between two pole types,
viz., Sel 1 and PV 118. A pole type suitable for growing in
hills.
 The green tender pod yield ranged from 50-60 q/ha in 90-100
days.
SELECTION-5:
 It is developed at IIHR, Bangalore.
 The pods are round stringless. It is suitable to grow in kharif
season.
SVM 1:
 Pods are green round stringless, 13-14 cm long.
 Ready for harvest from 65-75 DAS.
 Average pod yield is 105-125q/ha.
 It is resistant to angular leaf spot both in leaves and pods.
 A dual purpose variety and thus can be used as vegetable and
seeds as pulse.
 Recommended for mid hill areas.
POLE TYPE:
KENTUKY WONDER:
 This is a late maturing variety, developed at IARI, New Delhi.
 The pods are green in colour, large curved, round and stringed
at later stage. The seeds are light brown in colour.
 This variety has high yield potential.
 Average pod yield is 100-125 q/ha.
KKL- 1:
 It was developed at TNAU, Tamil Nadu.
 It is a pole type best suited for elevation of 800-2400m.
 Pods are long (28 cm) with low fibre. Seeds are white and flat.
It has a potential yield of 70 t/ha of pods or 30 q/ha of grains.
PUSA HIMALATA:
 Developed by IARI, regional station Katrain.
 It is a climbing or pole type. Vine is medium in height
(2.5cm long).
 The internode distance is small, each nodes bear 3-4
flowers.
 Pods medium in size and ready for picking in 60days.
 Seeds white and suitable for processing as green –
shelled bean.
 Mature seeds have good cooking quality and are suitable
for use as dry bean.

Peas and beans

  • 2. Garden Pea: ( Pisum sativum var. hortense )  It is also called table pea. In this type, young, green seeds are used mostly in vegetables and also for canning purposes. Seeds are bold and wrinkled. The plants are generally white flowered. Leaf axils are generally green. Seeds are yellowish, whitish or bluish green. Field Pea: (Pisum sativum var. arvense )  In this type, the ripe, mature seeds are used as pulse(dal). They are also grown as a forage or green manure crop. These are hardy and grown on large scale without irrigation. Can also withstand frost . Seeds are round and little angular. They have coloured flowers . Leaf axils are often pigmented. Seeds are grayish green, grayish brown and grayish yellow.

  • 4. Arkel:  Plants are dwarf, first flower appears in about 30 days after sowing.  It takes 60-65 days to first picking.  Pods are well filled and attractive. Three harvesting is done.  Average green pod yield is about 50-60 q/ha.

Meteor:  Plants are 35-40 cm tall, dark green, flowers borne generally singly, dark green pods, 8 cm long, well filled with 7 seeds, having shelling percentage 45.  It is round seeded early variety introduced from England.  It is sweet and gives the first harvest in about 70 days in Delhi.
  • 6. Asauji:  It is and early dwarf plant with dark green seeds, curved, about 7.5 cm long and filled with 6-7 smooth seeds per pod. The pods are ready to harvest in about 60 days. Bonnevile:  It is an mid season variety introduced from America. Plants are medium tall, flowers in 55-60 days after sowing with two pods per peduncle.  Pods are light green , straight, 9 cm long.  Average pod yield of 85 q/ha with 45% of shelling.  Seeds are green and wrinkled.
  • 7. Sylvia:  Introduced edible poded variety suitable for kitchen garden.  Pods are curved, yellowish green without parchment. N.P. 29:  It is a wrinkled seeded variety, very tasty and pods are ready to harvest after 100-110 DAS.  It is suitable for dehydration.

Pusa Shree  Fusarium wilt resistant early variety of garden pea.  It is also tolerant to high temperature environment prevalent in north Indian plains and lower hills at the time of early sowing (October).  Harvesting time 50–55 days after sowing in early October.  Pod yield 4.5–5.0 t/ha during early sowing and 9.0–10.0 t/ha in normal sowing (November) condition. Pusa Prabhat (DDR 23):  Suitable for irrigated and rainfed situations  Average seed yield is 15.5 q/ha  It is dwarf, extra early maturing (average 102 days)  It is a powdery mildew resistant variety
  • 9. Pusa Mukta (DDR 55) :  Yield : 2.5t/ha  A bold seeded variety having resistant to powdery mildew.  It matures in 110-115 days. Pusa Panna (DDR 27) :  Yield : 1.7t/ha  It is a dwarf, extra-early (90 days) and powdery mildew resistant variety.

  • 11. Arka Karthik :  This is a mid season variety developed at IIHR and released at the Institute level during 2001.  It is resistant to both powdery mildew and rust and suitable for freezing. Pod yields 11 tonnes per ha. in 90 days. The pods are 10.5 – 11.0 cm long, seeds bold, light green and sweet. Arka Pramodh  Mid-season pea variety; pods are medium long (8.0 cm) and slightly flattish round, mature in 65 days; seeds are bold, round, dark green and very sweet.  Resistant to powdery mildew and rust; pod yield 12 t/ha in 90 days

Arka Ajit:  Developed through back cross and pedigree method of selection involving the Parents Bonneville, IIHR 209 & Freezer 656.  Pods 8-9 cm long Seeds bold, green and sweet Shelling percent 55. A mid season garden pea Combined resistance to powdery mildew and rust Duration 90 days.  Pod Yield 10 t/ha. Arka Priya:  Mid-season variety; pods are round, medium long (8 cm), mature in 65 days; seeds are round, medium bold, dark green and very sweet; resistant to powdery mildew and rust; pod yield 12 t/ha in 90 days.
  • 13. Arka Sampoorna:  It is a whole pod edible mid season pea variety developed at IIHR. Pods mature in 55 days.  Pods are light green, medium long, with less parchment in the pod walls and medium sweet and crisp.  The pods are edible at any stage of development. Seeds are medium bold, sweet. Pod yield 8 t/ha in 85 days. Arka Harini :  Early variety , suitable for both kharif and rabi .  Pods are straight and round with dark green ,bold and sweet seeds developed by pedigree method of selection from F6 generation involving (IIHR 103 X Arka pramodh ) .  Pod yield is 8 t/ha in 60 days

Arka nirmal :  Early variety , suitable for both kharif and rabi .  Pods are short round and straight seeds are dark green and bold ,developed by pedigree method of selection from F6 generation involving (IIHR 103 X Arka pramodh )  Pod yield is 8.5 t/ha in 60 days. Arka Tapas:  Medium tall , mid season variety , tolerant to high temparature (upto 35oc )  Pods are short and dark green colored .  Seeds are dark green round in shape and sweet developed by pedigree method of selection from F6 generation involving ( Arka pramodh X Oregon sugar) X Arka priya  Pod yield is 6 t/ha in 90 days .
  • 15. Arka Mayur:  Early variety , suitable for both kharif and rabi .  Pods are short, staright and oval . Seeds are dark green ,bold and sweet developed by pedigree method of selection from F6 generation involving ( IIHR 105 xArka pramodh ) x oregon sugar.  Pod yield is 8 t/ha in 60 days. Arka chaithra:  Tall , mid season variety , tolerant to high temparature (upto 35oc)  Pods are long and light green coloured.  Seeds are light green round in shape and sweet .  Developed by pedigree method of selection from F6 generation involving ( Arka ajit X Arka Sampoorna) X (Arka Pramodh X Oregon Sugar ).  Pod yield is 7 t/ha in 90 days

Arka Uttam :  Tall , mid season variety , tolerant to high temparature (upto 35oc) pods are long and dark green colored  Seeds are dark green, round in shape and sweet .  Developed by pedigree method of selection from F6 generation involving ( Arka ajit X Arka Sampoorna) X (Arka Pramodh X Oregon Sugar ).  Pod yield is 7 t/ha in 90 days .

Kashi Nandini  This is an early maturing variety developed through pedigree selection from the cross P 1542 x VT-2-1.  Plant height is 47-51 cm, first flowering at 32 days after sowing, bears 7-8 pods per plant.  Pods are 8-9 cm long, attractive, length 8-9 cm, well filled with 8-9 seeds, shelling percentage 47-48; yield 110-120 q/ha. It is tolerant to leaf miner and pod borer. Kashi Mukti  It is an early maturing powdery mildew resistant variety developed through pedigree selection from the cross No. 7 x PM-5.  Plant height is 50-53 cm and 50% plants bear flowers at 35-36 days after sowing. Pods are 8.5-9 cm long, attractive filled with 8-9 bold soft textured seeds, selling percentage 48-49 and yield 110-120 q/ha.

Kashi Samridhi:  New high yielding and resistant to powdery mildew pea variety.  It is a tolerant to leaf minor and pod borer.  A new addition to late-maturing group, Kashi Samridhi is ideal for U.P, Bihar, Jharkhand and Punjab. Pant Uphar :  This variety is of intermediate duration between early cultivar Arkel and late maturing cultivar Bonneville.
  • 20. Pant Matar-2 :  This is an early maturing variety. The first green pod picking is possible after 60 days of sowing. This variety is equivalent to Arkel in maturity duration and other features and gives about 10 percent higher yield than Arkel.  The yield potential is about 100 q/ha. Pant Sabji Matar-3 :  Pods are long curved and well filled.  Seeds are wrinkled with green seed coat colour.  The first picking of green pods in 60-65 day and thus Pant Sabji Matar-3 is of Arkel duration and belongs to early maturity group of pea varieties.
  • 21. Pant Sabji Matar-4 :  It is an early variety (70 days to green pod picking) and resistant to powdery mildew. It is leafless type. Yield is 90 q/ha. Pant Sabji Matar-5  It is an early maturing variety and gives first picking in 60-65 days after sowing.  Plants are dwarf (65 cm) with green foliage.  Pods are long and curved toward the tip.  Seeds are wrinkled and green at maturity stage.  Average green pod yield is 90-100 q/ha. This variety is resistant to powdery mildew
  • 22. Ooty-1:  Developed at Udhagamandalam through pure line selection from the accession PS 33.  It is a dwarf type having yield potential of 11.9 t/ha in 90 days crop duration.  It is resistant to white fly
  • 24. French bean varieties are of two types ;  Dwarf or bush types  Climbing or pole types. Dwarf or Bush varieties: CONTENDER:  This is an introduction from USA.  This is an early variety, developed at IARI, New Delhi.  Plant busy with pink flower.  Pods are stringless and dark green in colour and seeds oval in shape.  The variety has been found to be resistant to mosaic and powderymildew.  Yield 20t/ha.
  • 25. GAINT STRINGLESS:  This variety was developed at IARI,New Delhi.  Early, pods are green medium size slightly curved and stringless.  The seeds are glossy and yellowish brown. JAMPA:  This is a Mexican variety, suitable to grow in Maharashtra.  This is very early variety, pods are available for first picking 50 days after sowing.  Pods flat, smooth, non –stringy and pale green in colour.  It is resistant to wilt and can grow successfully in warmer climate.
  • 26. PUSA PARVATI:  This is an outcome of mutation breeding(cv.wax pod, and American Variety)done at IARI,New Delhi.  The variety is early. Plant bushy with pink flowers.  This is high yielding and most suitable for hills.  Resistant to mosaic and powdery mildew.  Yield 22-25t/ha. NDVP 8:  This variety was developed at NDUA& T, Faizabad.  Mid season variety with pod yield of 105q/ha
  • 27. BOUNTIFUL:  This variety is high yielding, suitable to grow from September to February in South India.  On main stem, pods form in cluster. Pods are tender green, available for harvesting within a week of flowering.  The pods remain for long period even when left unharvested. PANT ANUPAMA:  The variety was developed by GBPUA&T, Pantnagar.  This is early maturing variety, suitable for both hills and plains.  Plant bushy and dwarf with concentrated fruiting.

LAXMI:  Pods are formed in clusters of three, 13-14cm long, stringless ,green round and attractive.  Pods ready for picking in 65-70 days.  Seeds white in colour with light yellow scar.  Average yield of green pod yield is 120-140q/ha.  Tolerant to angular leaf spot. PREMIER:  This variety suitable for the plains of Tamil Nadu.  This is less susceptible to wilt and mosaic. Seeds black in colour.

VL-BONI-1:  This variety has been developed at VPKAS, Almora.  Plants dwarf(30-40cm) having white flower with purple tinged.  Pods are round, light green, attractive , stringless and fleshy.  First picking starts at 45-60 days.  Suits for multi cropping and can be planted in the hills from march to July.  Yield 100-120q/ha.
  • 30. YED 1:  Bushy, dual purpose variety suitable for kharif season.  Pods slightly flat,15cm long.  Tolerant to root rot, rust, yellow mosaic and anthracnose.  Yield of green pods 97.5q/ha. OOTY 1:  This is released by by TNAU, Tamil Nadu.  It has yield potential of 340q/ha of green pods in a duration of 80 days.  This is moderately resistant to leaf spot, anthracnose and pod borer.
  • 31. PHULE SUREKHA:  It has been developed from Jampa improved variety by employing pure line selection.  It is released by MPKVV, Rahuri.  It is semi-determinate variety.  Its pods are straight flat with average length of 9.25cm and breadth 1.07cm.  It suits for kharif, rabi and summer seasons(photo-thermo- insensitive).  It is specifically bread for small straight edible pods and resistant to anthracnose, leaf crinkle, bean yellow mosaic virus and wilt(caused by stem fly attack).  It gives highest yield of (153-39q/ha)which was 53.68% higher than contender.
  • 32. KASHI PURAM:  Its plant determinate in height ,grow 70cm high and are bush type, with dark green leaves.  It is developed by IIVR, Varanasi.  Its pods attractive, fleshy, average length 14.7cm, round and dark green.  Its green yield 120-140q/ha, suitable for cultivation in Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Uttraanchal, Madhya Pradesh and Maharastra. NDVP10:  This variety was developed by NDAU & T, Faziabad, UP.  A mid season variety with pod yield of 100q/ha.
  • 33. ARKA KOMAL: (SELECTION-9)  Introduced bushy variety from Afghanistan.  The plants are erect and bushy. The pods are straight and flat. It can tolerate long distance transportation.  It has better yield performance than Pusa Parvati. ARKA SUBIDHA ( IIHR 909)  Plants are bushy and photosensitive.  Pods are straight and oval, light green , stringless and fleshy.  Yields 9 t/ha in 70 days.
  • 34. ARKAANOOP:  The plants are bushy and photo insensitive. It can be grown during all the three seasons. Its pods are ready for picking 45 DAS.  Pods are flat ,smooth, long (17-18 cm) and crisp with less parchment , the yield potential being 20 t/ha in 70 days. It is resistant to both rust and bacterial blight diseases. TKD 1:  Developed by TNAU, Tamil Nadu.  It is a hybrid derivative of a cross between two pole types, viz., Sel 1 and PV 118. A pole type suitable for growing in hills.  The green tender pod yield ranged from 50-60 q/ha in 90-100 days.
  • 35. SELECTION-5:  It is developed at IIHR, Bangalore.  The pods are round stringless. It is suitable to grow in kharif season. SVM 1:  Pods are green round stringless, 13-14 cm long.  Ready for harvest from 65-75 DAS.  Average pod yield is 105-125q/ha.  It is resistant to angular leaf spot both in leaves and pods.  A dual purpose variety and thus can be used as vegetable and seeds as pulse.  Recommended for mid hill areas.
  • 36. POLE TYPE: KENTUKY WONDER:  This is a late maturing variety, developed at IARI, New Delhi.  The pods are green in colour, large curved, round and stringed at later stage. The seeds are light brown in colour.  This variety has high yield potential.  Average pod yield is 100-125 q/ha.
  • 37. KKL- 1:  It was developed at TNAU, Tamil Nadu.  It is a pole type best suited for elevation of 800-2400m.  Pods are long (28 cm) with low fibre. Seeds are white and flat. It has a potential yield of 70 t/ha of pods or 30 q/ha of grains.
  • 38. PUSA HIMALATA:  Developed by IARI, regional station Katrain.  It is a climbing or pole type. Vine is medium in height (2.5cm long).  The internode distance is small, each nodes bear 3-4 flowers.  Pods medium in size and ready for picking in 60days.  Seeds white and suitable for processing as green – shelled bean.  Mature seeds have good cooking quality and are suitable for use as dry bean.
