Thus metals are electropositive elements with relatively low ionization energies. They are characterized by bright luster, hardness, ability to resonate sound and are excellent conductors of heat and electricity. This happens due to the conversion of some electric energy passing through the conductor into heat energy. This effect of electric current is called heating effect of current.The heating effect of current was studied experimentally by Joule in 1941. After doing his experiments Joule came to the conclusion that the heat produced in a conductor is directly proportional to the product of square of current (I2), resistance of the conductor (R) and the time (t) for which current is passed. A United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) report found that more women have enrolled in higher education, from 7.5 percent in 2002-03 to 20 percent in 2012-13. According to an ILO paper on employment trends for women in India, about 85 per cent of rural and 59 per cent of urban women workers are illiterate or literate only up to primary level. It further states that just a small percentage of women have benefited from higher education. A majority of women in India who are regularly employed are with the informal sector, undertaking domestic, household work, with no fixed, fair wages or facilities, limited social security benefits, no rights or entitlements and most importantly, no safety. This is perhaps the reason why many girls today are not being receptive to the idea of “working” or “being employed”.
There have to be enabling conditions with progressive policies and ensure these are implemented effectively. It is essential to adopt a lifecycle approach for girls, as the needs vary in each phase of their lives – right nutrition at birth and very young ages, quality early childhood education and care, capacity to address discrimination and help them recognise their rights.

The most immediate threat AI posed was to Academic Integrity with Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) focusing their efforts on combating the use of GenAI in assessment. Guidelines were developed for staff and students, policies put in place too. Innovative educators have forged paths in the use of Generative AI for teaching, learning and assessments leading to pockets of transformation springing up across HEIs, often with little or no top-down guidance, support or direction.
This Gasta posits a strategic approach to integrating AI into HEIs to prepare staff, students and the curriculum for an evolving world and workplace. We will highlight the advantages of working with these technologies beyond the realm of teaching, learning and assessment by considering prompt engineering skills, industry impact, curriculum changes, and the need for staff upskilling. In contrast, not engaging strategically with Generative AI poses risks, including falling behind peers, missed opportunities and failing to ensure our graduates remain employable. The rapid evolution of AI technologies necessitates a proactive and strategic approach if we are to remain relevant.

Dear Dr. Kornbluth and Mr. Gorenberg,
The US House of Representatives is deeply concerned by ongoing and pervasive acts of antisemitic
harassment and intimidation at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Failing to act decisively to ensure a safe learning environment for all students would be a grave dereliction of your responsibilities as President of MIT and Chair of the MIT Corporation.
This Congress will not stand idly by and allow an environment hostile to Jewish students to persist. The House believes that your institution is in violation of Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, and the inability or
unwillingness to rectify this violation through action requires accountability.
Postsecondary education is a unique opportunity for students to learn and have their ideas and beliefs challenged. However, universities receiving hundreds of millions of federal funds annually have denied
students that opportunity and have been hijacked to become venues for the promotion of terrorism, antisemitic harassment and intimidation, unlawful encampments, and in some cases, assaults and riots.
The House of Representatives will not countenance the use of federal funds to indoctrinate students into hateful, antisemitic, anti-American supporters of terrorism. Investigations into campus antisemitism by the Committee on Education and the Workforce and the Committee on Ways and Means have been expanded into a Congress-wide probe across all relevant jurisdictions to address this national crisis. The undersigned Committees will conduct oversight into the use of federal funds at MIT and its learning environment under authorities granted to each Committee.
• The Committee on Education and the Workforce has been investigating your institution since December 7, 2023. The Committee has broad jurisdiction over postsecondary education, including its compliance with Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, campus safety concerns over disruptions to the learning environment, and the awarding of federal student aid under the Higher Education Act.
• The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is investigating the sources of funding and other support flowing to groups espousing pro-Hamas propaganda and engaged in antisemitic harassment and intimidation of students. The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is the principal oversight committee of the US House of Representatives and has broad authority to investigate “any matter” at “any time” under House Rule X.
• The Committee on Ways and Means has been investigating several universities since November 15, 2023, when the Committee held a hearing entitled From Ivory Towers to Dark Corners: Investigating the Nexus Between Antisemitism, Tax-Exempt Universities, and Terror Financing. 8. SOAPS
Soaps are the sodium and potassium salts of the
long chain carboxylic acid. A soap molecule
consists of a long hydrocarbon chain
(composed of carbons and hydrogens) with a
carboxylic acid on one end which is ionic
bonded to metal ion usually a sodium or
potassium.
A soap has a large non-ionic hydrocarbon group
and an ionic group COO-Na+.
10. SAPONIFICATION
The process of making soap by the
hydrolysis of fats and oils with
alkalies is called saponification.
Soap is made by heating animal fats
or vegetable oil with concentrated
sodium hydroxide (NAOH).
Fat or Oil + NaOH → Soap + Glycerol

15. DETERGENTS
Detergents are the sodium salts of long chain
benzene sulphuric acids.
Detergents are primarily surfactants, which could
be produced easily from petrochemicals.
Surfactants lower the surface tension of water,
essentially making it 'wetter' so that it is less
likely to stick to itself and more likely to
interact with oil and grease.

Two basic examples of well-known detergents of the sulphonate
group or the sulphate group are:
17. CLEANSING ACTION OF DETERGENTS
Synthetic detergents have the same type of molecular structure as
soaps i.e. a tadpole like molecule having two parts at each end
i.e., one large non-polar hydrocarbon group that is water repelling
(hydrophobic) and one short ionic group usually containing the or
group that is water attracting (hydrophilic). Thus the cleansing
action is exactly similar to that of soaps whereby the formation of
micelles followed by emulsification occurs. However, synthetic
detergents can lather well even in hard water. This is because they
are soluble sodium or potassium salts of sulphonic acid or alkyl
hydrogen sulphate and similarly form soluble calcium or
magnesium salts on reacting with the calcium ions or magnesium
ions present in water. This is a major advantage of the cleansing
property of detergents over soap.
18. ADVANTAGES OF DETERGENTS
Since detergents are the salts of strong acids they
do not decompose in acidic medium. Thus
detergents can effectively clean fabric even if the
water is acidic.
Synthetic detergents are more soluble in water than
soaps.
They have a stronger cleansing action than soaps.
As detergents are derived from petroleum they save
on natural vegetable oils, which are important as
essential cooking medium
19. DISADVANTAGES OF DETERGENTS
Many detergents are resistant to the action of biological agents and
thus are not biodegradable. Their elimination from municipal
wastewaters by the usual treatments is a problem.
They have a tendency to produce stable foams in rivers that extend
over several hundred meters of the river water. This is due to the
effects of surfactants used in their preparation. Thus they pose a
danger to aquatic life.
They tend to inhibit oxidation of organic substances present in
wastewaters because they form a sort of envelope around them.
20. SOAPS
They are metal salts of
long chain higher fatty
acids.
These are prepared from
vegetable oils and animal
fats.
They cannot be used
effectively in hard water
as they produce scum
i.e., insoluble precipitates
of Ca2+, Mg2+, Fe2+ etc.
DETERGENTS
These are sodium salts of
long chain hydrocarbons
like alkyl sulphates or
alkyl benzene
sulphonates.
They are prepared from
hydrocarbons of
petroleum or coal.
These do not produce
insoluble precipitates in
hard water. They are
effective in soft, hard or
salt water.
