The Great Gatsby
Being provided with amusement or enjoyment is important and is essential for being content in
life. Entertainment in general is fascinating; such as movies, television shows, video clips on
YouTube, music, comics and other ridiculous things that people do in this world, not only
entertain us but also teach concepts and morals either directly or indirectly. Books are either
entertaining to some or are just objects that make life stale and boring, but yet these insignificant
objects can provide more entertainment while also allowing cognitive thinking skills and
learning universal truths that teach life lessons. People have different opinions towards books
and how to utilize them for the generation of today and if reading novels is even relevant for
students in the future. Although reading a novel provides the reader a better understanding of its
concepts, it is not necessary or important to read an entire novel to understand the book. Endings
of books are usually there to bring the novel to a close and deliver a life lesson at the end. All of
the concepts and themes are in the body of the book and are well presented depending on the
author. In Fitzgerald s The Great Gatsby, the American Dream was the theme that was presented,
and according to the story it is unachievable and just an infant fantasy that America portrays. While
reading the story, the characters views on how their interpretation of the American Dream, is well
established in the middle of the story. There

The Bachelor And The Construction And Destruction Of The...
The Bachelor and the Construction and Destruction of the Fantasy Romance Reality TV shows,
especially dating programs, has become a popular culture phenomenon status globally in the past
few decades. The media have taken advantage of this trend to incorporate them into their
mainstream programming in order to maximize profits from the intense followership it attracts
among various audiences. This popularity has also captured the interest of many scholars and
researchers who seek to identify why such controversial portrayal of love and romance attracts so
much attention among audiences. Most, therefore, focus on what motivates the viewers to watch as

Introduction The Bachelor is a trending reality TV show that has attracted controversial
responses from viewers all around. It formed a cult followership even from those who oppose its
depiction of unrealistic fantasy love and romance and impractical ideals of women. It has
become a popular culture phenomenon in the Western countries, as well as Australia; bringing in
remarkable revenue for media companies like Network Ten. Network Ten has a high return from
airing this show and others amidst its continuous annual losses. One cannot but wonder how a
show like The Bachelor Australia, which depicts an incredibly unrealistic premise, can attract
such a following. It turns the idea of true love into something that one can win as a prize in a
competition. In it, twenty five girls compete while sharing the same house, in a contest to be the
ultimate one that the supposedly eligible and desirable Bachelor will pick to be his wife. It
imposes unrealistic fantasy of love and romance and unrealistic ideals of women. It entails a pool
of romantic interests eliminated through a continuous public series of group dates, rose
ceremonies, two on one and one on one dates until only one woman remains. The coveted bachelor
then proposes to the remaining one for marriage. The Bachelor Australia is a pop culture because it
denotes a group of customs or practices that

The Common Characteristics Of Christianity And Christianity
One may argue that all religions are the same at the core, however different religions advances
very different teachings of the most important subject. That subject is how to achieve the goal of
where you will remain in the afterlife. Islam is one of the oldest religions practiced today. Zoroya
(2015), Islamis projected to grow more than twice as fast as any other major religionover the next
half century because of a higher fertility rate, While Christianitywill remain a dominant global
religion (para. 2). Although there are many religions we will compare Islam with the common
characteristics of other major religions.
Common Characteristics
Muslims are people who submit to God and their religion is called Islam. Islam has a
monotheism faith believing in one God denouncing any other messiah or deity. Muslims often
refer to God as Allah, which is considered the universal God not be mistaken of a God of only the
Islam faith. Islam is based on one faith that God or Allah is the creator of the universe and his
greatness cannot be compared with his creation. God is the only one to be praised and only one
deserving of worship. Muslims believe God created man for one purpose, to worship him.
Muslims refer to the Quran for direction of how to live, worship, and carry out assignment to
fulfill the requirements of life. This may sound familiar to the Christian faith because according to
Luke 4:8 in the Holy Bible, Jesus tells Satan, saying get thee behind me, Satan: for it is

The History and Technology of the Computer in the...
In our fast pace society, technology is ever changing. This has ultimately resulted in technology
always being at our fingertips. On an average day so many people are dependent on computers for
their capabilities; including, police officers, small businesses, Wall Street, and even the average
person for leisure. Without the invention of the first mechanical computerdesign in 1822 by Charles
Baggage, our society would not be where it is at today. The computer has been noted to be most
of the most powerful technology that societies will ever have.1 The first computer consisted of
nearly 4,000 different parts. Measuring roughly seven feet tall and 11 feet long which is nowhere

In current society today, a decent security protection is necessary to protect your privacy on
computers. The invention and technology capabilities of the computer has not only advanced and
created new technological developments for society, but the computer has also impacted social and
cultural aspects of life as well. Culture refers to a human s way of life, which includes daily and
religious traditions, activities, beliefs and anything not related to technology. One theory about
technology and its impacts on culture is called technology determinism this theory states that
technology determines society s cultural and social values and beliefs. As a result of this theory,
technology and culture are two distinct factors. However, according to the technology determinism
theory, technology always remains ahead of society s culture. This results in society continuously
changing to keep up with the technological changes that occur.6 A specific example about the
technology and cultural change that the computer has contributed to in society is the meaning of
dating and interaction with friends and family members. In today s society the computer allows for
individuals to meet and interact with a wide variety of people that

Jesus In Pilate
It is a tempestuous and perilous time in the Roman Empire. Nowhere more so than in the Roman
occupied city, Jerusalem. The holy city teems with pilgrims for the springtime fete of Passover;
decades of violent resistance have tightened the iron grip of the Roman governor, Pontus Pilate.
Myriad messiahs have endeavored to free the Jewish people from the yoke of Roman oppression.
All have failed. Into the powder keg rides Yeshua of Nazareth, known today as JesusChrist.
Accompanied by a group of armed followers, Jesus strides into the court of the Gentiles and attacks
the center of religious and commercial life, overturning tables and driving the sacrificial animals
out. As Roman law dictates, Pilate crucifies Jesus for his zealous disruption... Show more content on

His book reads like a novel. A graceful, entertaining narrative designed to present the public with a
simplified picture of ancient Palestine and early Christianity. The book does not even look like an
academic work of historical analysis. Zealot is absent of footnotes, settling for an extended
notes section towards the end of the book. In the text, he picks his sources with a selective bias.
When proving his point, Aslan pulls one quote from the gospels as evidence, but neglects
legitimate sources that conflict with or repudiate his argument. This is exampled in Aslan s
analysis of the kingdom of God. He argues that Jesus s kingdom of God calls for violent action
against any who don t support it. To verify this, he refers to the especially violent Parable of the
Great Supper in Matthew 22.2: The Kingdom of God in Jesus s teachings...is at once the joyous
wedding feast within the king s royal hall, and the blood soaked streets outside its walls. (124)
However, he fails to recognize the same parable in Luke, which does not possess the violent
passages Mark has. Many Jesus scholars would have acknowledged this as Matthean redaction a
popular belief of Jesus scholars that suggests Matthew edited certain parts of the Q gospel. As a
scholar of Religions, Aslan must have known about Matthean redaction. Yet, he doesn t include it in

ton of extracurriculars. When he was in class teachers wouldn t even acknowledge him as a
student. They would just assign him stuff and he turned it in with beyond expectation results every
time on time no matter what. He was short and skinny with brown hair. Philip is an interesting

kid that changed Philip. It started at the beginning of ninth grade. Brody was in two of Philip s
classes. Phillip s first impression of Brody was that he was just a really entertaining guy. He
seemed like he would be a good friend. Slowly they bonded with one another and became
friends. But the more and more they hung out you could tell Philip wasn t quite the same. It
really started when Brody told Philip his close were trashy and ugly. Immediately Philip started
to wear different clothes. Slowly but surely more things were changing. Philip dropped out of
his nerdy clubs and his grades started to slip. About a month later Philip had become a second
version of Brody. Trouble making, problem student, and jerk, Brody. But was the most
interesting thing about it was that Philip was not the happy go lucky, funny and kind he used to
be. Nowadays he always wore a nasty and sad look on his face. He always put other down and often
compared people to himself. But the worst part was that Philip would always try to still just be like

The Lone Ranger And Tonto Fistfight Essay
The Lone Ranger and Tonto Fistfight in Heaven is a book written by; Sherman Alexie. In this
book, Alexie writes about a group of Native Americans who live on the Spokane Indian
Reservation. As this novel may be fiction, some of the stories that are portrayed in the text have
some very real meaning the them. These Native Americans endure lots of heartache and tragedy
in this book as they are faced with problems like alcoholism, car accidents, loss of loved one and
houses burning. In the face of adversity, many of these Native Americans in this story carry on
with their lives and become Warriors . The search for warriors in this publication has many
themes that come along with it such as; Resilience and Forgiveness. This desire of being a
warrior drives characters in this book to stand out and be strong leaders. This is needed because
many Native Americans on the reservation needs a warrior to stand up and fight for them.
Currently, a warrior does not have the same meaning as it did centuries ago. When looking for a
warrior we will not find a gladiator or Spartan walking the streets. What we will find is a person
who is strong and resilient enough to carry on and care for his own family or loved ones around
them. A warrior is possible to find today, just many are looking in the wrong places as this novel
give clarity to what a true warrior is. All through Sherman Alexies writing, there ae stories of how
the Native Americans he is writing about are faced with adversity. The

The Stapedial Or Acoustic Reflex ( Ar )
ABSTRACT:
The Stapedial or Acoustic Reflex (AR) is the contraction of the stapedius muscle in response to an
adequately loud sound. Bilateral reflex pathways are involved in this occurrence. The aim of the
study was to compare the test retest variability on an individual, following a short interval, after the
initial test, and also to compare the ARs with pure tone thresholds. The subject had a normal
hearing sensitivity, with bilateral A type tympanogram, which indicated normal functioning of the
middle ear, and bilateral AR thresholds within normal limits. It was delineated that AR was elicited
with requisite intense acoustic signal and this test can be used as a diagnostic tool in collaterally
with pure tone audiometry.
INTRODUCTION:
When a sufficiently intense acoustic signal is presented to either of the ears, stapedius muscle in
both the ears contract, as a response to this sound. This phenomenon is termed as AR.
Stapes, the smallest middle ear ossicle is attached with a small striated muscle (stapedius muscle) on
the side. In response to a loud sound, this muscle contracts, pulling the stapes laterally, which in
turn reduced the force by which the footplate of the stapes propels against the oval window. This
action permits a considerable protection against loud and stable background noise, but not against
sudden loud sounds (e.g.: bomb blast).
There are several theories stating the need for AR.

Deere Company has a high expectation of the increase in profit in the future with several
perspectives. First, they expect the increases in demand for the agricultural industry because of the
increase of total population around the world, especially in the Asian and Africa regions. Thus, they
expanded the plants in China, India, and Latin America, where the middle class population is
getting larger. Second, they expect the increases of urbanization in the developing countries, where
to require the development of infrastructures in those countries. The population in the urban area is
expected to increase from 50 percent in 2014 to 70 percent at the end of 2050. (Gamble, Peteraf,
Thompson, 2015, p. 367). However, it has been just a forecast. In fact, the unexpected situation

Why Is Calculator Is Not Appropriate In The Classroom
Math Research Paper
Since the 1980 s calculator use in the classroom has been a huge controversy between educators
(Golden, 2000). It is becoming increasingly common to use calculators in the classroom on a
regular basis. Some states allow students to use calculators on standardized tests and as part of the
regular curriculum (Dion, 2001). Because we live in such a technologically changing world, hand
held calculators have been far surpassed and can be purchased for as low as $4.00 each. This low
price however, has not swayed the many people that believe calculators are not appropriate in the
classroom.
These critics argue that calculators take away student s basic knowledge of mathematics, prevent
children from truly ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This evidence alone is enough proof, for some, that calculator use takes away basic skills and
when given a test where these skills come into play, children do not perform well. It is believed
that the difference in calculator use based on race and wealth may reinforce inequality in
scholastic achievement, rather than narrow them (Golden, 2000). Because calculators are so
cheap, in comparison with computers, most schools can afford to provide them for each student,
therefore, this is the only technology readily available to low income schools and calculators are
often overused (Golden, 2000). In addition, another concern with calculators is that many children
feel they are cheating, taking the easy way out, or taking and illegal shortcut by using a calculator.
They think they are skipping out on the work and by doing so are being immoral (Dresdeck, 1999).
On the contrary, advocates of calculator use in the classroom claim that calculators allow students
to spend less time on tedious calculations and more time on understanding and solving problems,
help students develop better number sense, allow students to study math concepts that they could
otherwise not have time to perform without calculators, allow students who are normally turned off
to math increase

Analysis Of Diego Rivera s Man At The Crossroads
The ever so common breach of artist freedom was brought to life in 1934 when Diego Rivera s
commissioned painting, Man at the Crossroads, was destroyed for its controversial content. This
piece, originally commissioned by the Rockefellers to place on the ground floor of Rockefeller
Center, representing hope and a new future. Rivera s depiction of this began with painting a man
controlling a machine at the center of the mural, surrounded by what Rivera called elongated
ellipses that were filled alternately with cell patterns and cosmological explosions (qtd. In Social
History of the United States 325). Within his first few weeks of painting the mural, the New York
World Telegram called the mural anti capitalist propaganda . After Rivera saw this article he was
outraged,he sent his assistant to get pictures of renown communist Vladimir Leninquoting, If you
want communism, I will paint communism (qtd. In Destroyed by Rockefellers, NPR). After this
addition, the news outlets went haywire and the Rockefellers tried to get Rivera to remove Lenin.
When he wouldn t they fired him and left the painting incomplete until it was destroyed by workers
in 1934.
Although Rivera s addition of Lenin was unexpected and spontaneous it wasn t out of character.
Rivera was an outspoken member of the Mexican Communist Party in the 1920 s. In fact Man at
the Crossroads wasn t even the first of Rivera s murals to be taken down for its use of communist
propaganda. Years prior a mural of

Blind Side Symbolism
The blind side, produced by John Lee Handcock, is based on the story and events of the Tuohy
family as they take in a young homeless boy by the name of Michael Oher. A fatherless Micheal
Oher is left in the care of his drug addicted mother in the gang filled projects of Memphis. But
soon things are about to change for him. Through a series of events he is accepted into Wingate
Christian School, which is an exclusive private school, even though his education level did not
meet their standards. During the attendance at Wingate he meets the Tuohy family who bring
him into their home and help him succeed in high school, college, and reach his professional
football career as he became the first round pick of the Baltimore Ravens in the 2009 NFL draft.
The Blind Side uses detailed scenes amplified by dialogue and symbolism to portray the theme of
judging a person by their appearance and past verses judging them by their character and abilities.
The first time this theme is displayed is after Tony Hamilton, father of Steven, goes to Wingate in
order to get his son ,Steven, a better education. After prospecting Steven as an all star sports player
to coach Cotton, Tony tells the coach that not only does he wants Steven to attend Wingate but he
also would like Big Mike(Michael Oher) to attend. After the coach looks out the window, seeing
Bike Mike and Steven playing basketball, he presents their paperwork to the board of Wingate. As
the board is sitting around the table discussing

Hand Muffs: The revamped way to keep warm this winter season!
In the modern digital age that we live in, anything hands free are considered a need rather than a
novelty, and maybe this is the reason why the old concept of fur muffs have taken the current
fashion scene by storm.
This chilly winter season have somehow come of age from the gloves and the mitts and have
supposedly taken respite in the good old muffs which are nothing but cylindrical fur or otherwise
hand warmers which dated back into existence in the times of the early 16th century with its roots
in the Imperial Russia.
Fur muffs have come back to the current fashion trend this winter season and how, when all of the

Montgomery Bus Boycott Rosa Parks Arrest
Today, many people believed that the arrest of Rosa Parks in 1955 kicked off the Montgomery
Bus Boycott, and that her arrest is known to be the start of the Civil Rights Movement. To put it
bluntly, she did not start the Civil Rights Movement; the murder of Emmett Till is the catalyst
that started the Civil Rights Movement. As for the Montgomery Bus Boycott, that part is
slightly true and slightly false. Rosa Parks herself was not the first black woman who refused to
give up her seat. That right belongs to Claudette Colvin. Claudette Colvin, a 15 year old high
school student was arrested for refusing to give up her seat to a white couple. She was sent to
court despite the city law required passengers to move only if another seat was available, which in
this case there were no more seats available (McGuire 68). With this as major evidence, one would
think that she got off without a guilty sentence. That, in fact, did not happen. After she was found

Ray Bradbury s There Will Come Soft Rain
Ray Bradbury short story There will come soft rain is a chilling science fiction that hits closer to
home than we like to admit. Ray Bradbury s theme, setting and image shows what this can truly
happen to all of us. There will come soft rains and the smell of the ground, And swallows circling
with their shimmering sound; And frogs in the pools singing at night, And wild plum trees in
tremulous white, Robins will wear their feathery fire whistling their whims on a low fence wire;
And not one will know of the war, not one will care at last when it is done. Not one would mind,
neither bird nor tree If mankind perished utterly; And Spring herself, when she woke at dawn,
Would scarcely know that we were gone. This poem showing the world will not care when the
human race is gone. The world will go on with our without us. It is the year 2026, almost ten
years and seven months from now there is a self sustaining house that can run itself for months
or even years. The house is made to cook for the family that inhabit it, as well as remind it the
date and time. It also cleans for the people living in it constantly as well as set activities to pass
the time, but all that is heard is silence. The house tells the inhabitants the daily events and what to
do at what time. But there is something different about this particular house. The family that is
suppose to be living there has died, along with everyone else in the area around the house. It seems

Hampshire Company As A Tool For Measure The Business Activity
The Hampshire Company was evaluating on which cost system would best fit their needs as a tool
to measure the business activity. When conducting this process, Hampshire Company took a look at
traditional cost method versus activity based costing. Traditional Cost method is defined as The
traditional method of costaccounting refers to the allocation of manufacturing overhead coststo the
products manufactured. The traditional method (also known as the conventional method) assigns
or allocates the factory s indirect costs to the items manufactured on the basis of volume such as the
number of units produced, the direct labor hours, or the production machine hours. We will use
machine hours in our discussion. By using only machine hours to allocate the manufacturing
overhead to products, it is implying that the machine hours are the underlying cause of the factory
overhead. Traditionally, that may have been reasonable or at least sufficient for the company s
external financial statements. However, in recent decades the manufacturing overhead has been
driven or caused by many other factors. For example, some customers are likely to demand
additional manufacturing operations for their diverse products. Other customers simply want great
quantities of uniform products. If a manufacturer wants to know the true cost to produce specific
products for specific customers, the traditional method of cost accountingis inadequate.

Of Pride And Arrogance In Nino Ricci s Lives Of The Saints
The Effects Of Pride and Arrogance The inability to take responsibility for immoral actions causes
destruction. Nino Ricci s Lives of the Saints tells the story of a young boy whose life drastically
changes due to his mother s infidelity. Throughout the novel, Cristina s attitude toward her sin
becomes a prevalent matter as it starts to damage aspects of her and her familys life. Cristina s
excessive prideand arrogance lead to her choice to stay silent and proud, which results in its
destructive nature. The hubristic mindset Cristina harbours, damages her personal relationships.
Throughout the novel, Cristina chooses to remain prideful and silent and ignores the
consequences of her infidelity. In one particular scene, Cristina, Vittorio and his grandfather sit
together at the dinner table, but no one says a word: When he did come, he remained walled up
in his stony silence, his head bowed over his plate, while my mother sat turned away from him
crosswise, her legs never under the table, as if she expected at any moment to have to rise up
suddenly on some errand, (Ricci 133). Vittorio s grandfather stops eating dinner with Vittorio and
Cristina. Vittorio notices the irrefutable tension and the change in the atmosphere. However,
Cristina is unregretful of her sin that results in the damage of not only hers, but the people around
her lifes as well. Vittorio s grandfather continuously directs his anger on Cristina, who does not

Class Structure Of Victorian England
The difference in class structures of Victorian England was dependent on the lifestyles and jobs
of individuals. The Victorian era of England lasted from 1837 to 1901. The Victorian England
hierarchy was divided into three different classes; the upper, middle, and lower class and was
reliant of occupational differences. The hierarchy was very rigid and there was little social
mobility, because of the fact that normally a person was born into their class and even their
future career. In Great Expectations, Charles Dickens displays the model of class structure
through the character Pip Pirrup. Pip struggles to find his place within the hierarchy. Throughout
the novel, Dickens writes about the different classes in England. Pip belongs the working class
due to his family and is set to be a blacksmith, but finds himself in the societal shift that occurred
in England in the nineteenth century. Pip wants to achieve his great expectations and change the
path that his life was going on. He wants create a better life for himself than what he would have
had if he followed in the footsteps of his family. Dickens also creates various characters in the
different classes to expose the relationship between each class. An individual s class was a
dominant factor in creating an identity. People of the upper classes thought very little of the people
below them. Throughout his journey, Pip reveals information about how the different social classes
lived and how members of each

Financial Statement And Financial Statements
Introduction A company s financial statements contain the true fiscal pulse of the company. If ever
there is a need to check the health of a company to see how strong or weak it is fiscally, the
financial statements hold the answers. These statements allow shareholders, lenders, and investors
the opportunity to assess a number of things about the company such as how it can grow it s
customer base, where it falls short at any particular time, and even how well the company is doing
amongst it s peers. Financial statements also provide key information regarding a company s
accounting principles. The purpose of this paper is to identify and assess each of the documents
that make up a firm s financial statements, which are, the income statement, the balance sheet, and
the statement of cash flows.
Income Statements The first of the important financial statement documents is the income
statement. According to our text (2014) the purpose of the income statement is to report the
revenues generated and expenses incurred by a firm over an accounting period, such as a quarter or
a year. Essentially, the income statement allows a general snapshot of what a company makes and
spends for a specific period of time. Harold Averkamp of AccountingCoach.com (2015) sums up
income statements best with, The income statement is important because it shows the profitability
of a company during the time interval specified...People pay attention to the profitability of a
company for many reasons.

Abstract
The popularity of m commerce devices, especially mobile phones among consumers high lighted a
new source of revenue for businesses. An industry review in mobile commerce found a variety of
current trends and business models that will affect future strategic uses from a project management
perspective. This paper explores m commerce technology from a business perspective; how it is
similar and differs from e commerce technically; and tries identifying and exploring potential
strategic uses for this new technology.

US Revenues from m commerce in 2009 were $1.2 billion(Maher, 2010) and in 2013 it is $25.4
billion and still growing (Brohan 2013), and as consumers become more comfortable with making
purchases with these smartphones, business generated through m commerce is expected to
continue to grow. To capture some of this revenue, most wireless mobile providers now offer
phones with marketplaces that deliver ringtones, music and customer applications, and major
business firms such as Ebay, Macy s, Scottstrade, and Bank of America have custom applications.
These factors make m commerce a new and important form of business technology that firms need
to strategically consider.
What is m commerce? In the past, business typically mass produced goods and services, selling
them through store, catalogue and phone. In the 90 s, the Internet produced a shift to these
marketing strategies; forcing business to reevaluate its own business models and how it
communicates its product and services to customers. This diffusion of commerce through the
Internet created e commerce, and it unleashed a revolution in buying power. Today, with the rapid
production of the mobile phone market, mobile telephone offers the potential platform for
unprecedented penetration of the Internet and services such as m commerce. According to Buse
and Tiwari (2007) M commerce is defined as

Questions On Search Engines By A Search Engine
Assignment 1
Search Engines
The two main functionalities executed by a search engines are building and crawling an index,
provision of a hierarchical list of the most relevant websites for search users. A world wide web
is like a big networked city with stops and subway system. Each stop, usually a web page is
unique. The search engine needs to formulate a method to span the whole town and identify all
breaks alongside the way. The search engine, therefore, uses the best path available that is what we
commonly refer to as links. The connection configuration of the web servers binds all the pages
together. Using links, automated robots known as crawlers can reach billions of documents that
connect to each other in the web (Fishkin, 2015). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Search engines serve as an answering machine by providing, firstly, the results that are more
relevant to the search query. Secondly, the ranking of results in order of popularity of the website
that is serving the information. An assumption made by Search engines is that the more prevalent
a website or web page is, the more useful the information it contains. A search engine will always
use mathematical equations to determine the popularity and relevance of a web page or website.
This algorithm will be used to separate the sort and later on rank in the order of its popularity and
quality. The mathematical algorithms contain variety of variables often mentioned to as place
factors.

Amanda Knox Essay
9 October 2012
The muder of Meredith Kercher was covered very differently from beginning to end. Media bias
was present on both sides of guilty and not guilty. The story was hard to keep straight as
information was either left out or presented falsely. News articles presented soon after a story, is
useful for awareness of the issue; however, exact details are generally not presented fairly or true

An article written in 2007 was one of the first published after the murder of Meredith Kercher. This

Amanda who is the prime suspect, changed her story over and over again during the first few
weeks following the murder. Her first story was that neither she nor her boyfriend, Rafaelle, were
present at the apartment during the murder. She says they were at Rafaelles smoking pot and
having sex ( Murphy Denis). Just five days later her story changed again. She claimed she was
present at their apartment as well as Lumamna, who she claimed killed Meredith. However, during
her court trial, she confessed that Lumumna was never present and that she made the confession
up. Her final confession came back to the first: that she was never at the apartment the night of
November 1, and that she didn t remember much of the night because of the weed. Another thing
covered in Denis Murphy s, NBC news article was hat Amanda claimed to have returned on the
morning of November 2nd and saw traces of a break in, blood on the carpet, but was not alarmed.
Amanda then showered and returned to Ralealles houses. They both returned to the apartment
around 12:30pm when the police showed up and broke down Meredith s door to find the gruesome
murder scene.

I choose the topic Racism in today s society because it is a topic that dramatically effects our way

everyone.
My position on the topic of racism is that it s a negative faction in our society that results in death

The importance of racism in America.
Racism in the U.S. is important and should be know because it is an important part in our history

International Relations In Yogyakarta
Yogyakarta
It has been a widespread knowledge that the international relations study is state centric , as it

However, this misappropriation of focus created a rather problematic understanding of
International Relations as a whole, as there are actors which often times are also quite fitting to be

One Size Does Not Fit All
One Size Does Not Fit all If my future were determined by just my performance on a
standardized test, I wouldn t be her. I guarantee you that Michelle Obama. Once upon a time our
education system was based on one s knowledge of the simplicity of things; however, now a days
a children s knowledge isn t based on whether he or she knows the different countries or how to
answer 2+2 unless they can relate it to a real world situation. It is based on the pure skill of how to
take a test. Standardized testsand Common Core (CC) have recently started denouncing our school
system more and more. Children are starting to get lost and confused on topics, parents deem
them excessive and unnecessary, and teachers feel inclined to teach to the test and emphasising
relating everything back to a real life situation instead of teaching their students a broad spectrum
of ideas. With the adoption of Common Core and the addition of multiple standardized tests
children are starting to feel lost and left behind when it comes to curriculum. According to Cary
Grimm Common Core standards can be compared to jumping over a fence that one knows was 2
feet but evidently was told 3 feet and missed the next level standard. When you set a standard of
what a child needs to know in each grade but only used standardized testing to test their knowledge
of what they know instead of using a more personal approach, this degrades the system (Stern).

Similarly, Cascio (1991) suggests that the combination of the following five requirements along
with a performance based pay system can also have a very significant impact on performance.
The first of these is skill variety, where a wide variety of tasks or procedures is available to the
employee. Next is task identity, where the employee can clearly identify the output of a task as a
product of their efforts. This is followed by task significance, where the work is recognised as
important and meaningful. After this comes autonomy, where the employees have a major say in
work planning and execution. The final requirement is feedback, where employees receive
constructive advice or criticism on their performance.
The rewards offered can be extrinsic such as wages, incentives and bonuses, or intrinsic such as
job satisfaction, an internal feeling of worth and a sense of well being on the job.
O Neil (1998) suggests six minimal criteria for the design of a performance based pay system. The
first of these criteria is that the reward system should be self funding, that is, the performance
increases should as a minimum offset the cost of the rewards provided. The second criterion is that
the distribution of the rewards must be consistent, fair and justifiable. In addition reward plans must
be transparent and clearly communicated. The third criterion

Book Report
In Incidents in the Life of a Slave Girl Jacobs argues that many slaves were treated with extreme
punishment and inhumanly in the south. She shows that slaves were treated more similarly to
property than as workers or actual humans and the fear that they have because of it. This fueled
many believers of the antislavery to take action in the abolition of slavery. Throughout Incidents in
the Life of a Slave Girl, Jacobs gives multiple examples that show the extreme treatment that many
slaves encountered.
When Jacobs was talking with Dr. Flint about her wishes to marry a free man and she spoke her
mind, she was hit by Dr. Flint. Do you know that I have a right to do as I like with you, that I can
kill you, if I please? (Jacobs, 64). This shows that it was not safe for a slave to speak openly and
honestly to their masters. If a slave s master was not satisfied, they had every right to punish, rape,
or kill the slave because they were considered to be property. This could also be one of the reasons
that Jacobs uses the pseudonym Linda Brent; for her own protection. ... Show more content on

Slaves should have not been seen as someone s property, but at least as workers and their lives
should not have been as expendable as they were. Jacobs shows rebellion from her master by
defying the wishes of Dr. Flint and has 2 children with Mr. Sands. Sally, they are going to carry
my children to the plantation to morrow; and they will never sell them to any body so long as
they have me in their power... (Jacobs, 118). She hides in the attic of the house for 7 years because
she believes the treatment that Dr. Flint tried to give was unfair and she wanted to save herself and

The Raft of the Medusa by Theodore Gericault
The Raft of the Medusa by Theodore Gericault is considered by many to be one of the greatest
paintings of Romantic Art. Here I will discuss Romantic Art, some history behind the painting, the
painting in general, and to prove why the first statement is true. If we are going to call this painting
Romantic Art one must first know what it actually is or have some sort of idea what is counted as
Romanticismor as something that Romantics would do. Romanticism celebrates the spontaneity
and the use of the imagination. Abandoning tradition constraints of the art world to explore new
and creative ways of expression. Possibly seen as intuitive individualism and primacy of feeling.
Romantics didn t reject reason but though emotions were... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

He interviewed the survivors, drew mutilated corpses in the Paris morgue, and had a model
created in his studio of the raft. The painting was 16 feet 1 inch by 23 feet 6 inches so it is huge
in size and the dramatic impact was just as amazing. This gave the people a record of an event
that happened in a time before photography. At first glance a viewer might just see people
huddled on a raft together, a couple waving down a ship, and trying to get someone off canvases
attention while others try to keep those who are weaker on the raft. But if they look closer they
might notice other things of interest that are commonly found in Romanticism or Romantic Art.
Gericault use of the double triangles in this image of the mast and rope help keep the main
focus on the people on the raft who are dying or dead. Suffering against heat, dehydration,
starvation, and forced to canalize each other to survive which is a true struggle against nature but
also against ones self. It would be a very horrific and emotional experience for anyone to have to
choose between eating another human being or dying of starvation. He focuses on the true
emotion, the disgusting horror of the event, and what had to be done or was done to survive. It
has very rustic looking colors in the image, reds, oranges, yellows, browns, blacks, and grays that
give it an autumn like color theme. This gives you a sense that they

A Single Advertisement
A single advertisement can have hundreds of effects on mankind every day without anybody
noticing. It gives the indication that life is not whole until the one last item is acquired. Then
one will be considered cool and accepted in today s society. Many believe once they hit their
mid life crisis. The mid life crisis hits around age 35 to 40 when men realize they are not fitting
in as much as he once did. Men s lives have significantly changed and now he has money to buy
things he was not able to before. Because his financial status is finally in the black, he is able to
pick up his head from the computer desk and look around. Things making men look more stylish
and hip in today s society. Advertisers seem to hit this hard. They use cynicism to make the men
going through their crisis believe if they get the object of their desire, they will be the coolest guy
on the block.
This advertisement portrays the type of man that every man wants to be as well as the type of
woman every man wants to be with; really hitting the mid life crisis bone hard. He s a middle
aged man that obviously has stayed in shape his whole life. Most middle aged men are married
with kids and a little gut hanging over their belt. When the men reading this ad see a man like
David Beckham, they start questioning if they look like that to other women. In the process, the ad
actually gives an unintended effect to destroy self esteem. When the advertisement hurts that self
esteem, men tend to buy what

The Causes Of The Dust Bowl
The Dust Bowl
It started off as a normal day for the Johnson boys, They woke up, ate breakfast and headed off to
the fields to start their chores. Their chores included feeding and tending the livestock and
taking care of the crops. There were two boys, Rick and Morty the youngest son, Morty loved
feeding the cows and sheep his favorite was a calf named Chad. Chad and Morty have been best
friends ever since Chad was born. When Morty was feeding Chad he looked over and saw a
cloud of dust that ranged for miles. He yelled at his brother to look and together they put away
all the livestock and went inside for shelter. Four hours goes by and the storm finally passes. The
two boys go outside to see that everything has been covered in dust. They run to the barn and see
that all their livestock had died from dust suffocation. Rick and Morty go in a panic everything
they worked hard for was gone. They had no other choice but to migrate to try and find a job so
they can survive. So the next day they packed everything they could carry and got the next ticket to
California. This was very usual for the farmers in the midwest to do this. The Dust Bowl affected
people s way of life in the Midwest forcing them to migrate to California in search of a job and food.
For years the Dust Bowl traveled the southern plains making the everyday activities not so simple.
According to a English Professor at University of Illinois, Cary Nels on, the dust bowl lasted about
a decade (Nelson). Maria

  • 2. The Great Gatsby Being provided with amusement or enjoyment is important and is essential for being content in life. Entertainment in general is fascinating; such as movies, television shows, video clips on YouTube, music, comics and other ridiculous things that people do in this world, not only entertain us but also teach concepts and morals either directly or indirectly. Books are either entertaining to some or are just objects that make life stale and boring, but yet these insignificant objects can provide more entertainment while also allowing cognitive thinking skills and learning universal truths that teach life lessons. People have different opinions towards books and how to utilize them for the generation of today and if reading novels is even relevant for students in the future. Although reading a novel provides the reader a better understanding of its concepts, it is not necessary or important to read an entire novel to understand the book. Endings of books are usually there to bring the novel to a close and deliver a life lesson at the end. All of the concepts and themes are in the body of the book and are well presented depending on the author. In Fitzgerald s The Great Gatsby, the American Dream was the theme that was presented, and according to the story it is unachievable and just an infant fantasy that America portrays. While reading the story, the characters views on how their interpretation of the American Dream, is well established in the middle of the story. There ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Introduction The Bachelor is a trending reality TV show that has attracted controversial responses from viewers all around. It formed a cult followership even from those who oppose its depiction of unrealistic fantasy love and romance and impractical ideals of women. It has become a popular culture phenomenon in the Western countries, as well as Australia; bringing in remarkable revenue for media companies like Network Ten. Network Ten has a high return from airing this show and others amidst its continuous annual losses. One cannot but wonder how a show like The Bachelor Australia, which depicts an incredibly unrealistic premise, can attract such a following. It turns the idea of true love into something that one can win as a prize in a competition. In it, twenty five girls compete while sharing the same house, in a contest to be the ultimate one that the supposedly eligible and desirable Bachelor will pick to be his wife. It imposes unrealistic fantasy of love and romance and unrealistic ideals of women. It entails a pool of romantic interests eliminated through a continuous public series of group dates, rose ceremonies, two on one and one on one dates until only one woman remains. The holy city teems with pilgrims for the springtime fete of Passover; decades of violent resistance have tightened the iron grip of the Roman governor, Pontus Pilate. Myriad messiahs have endeavored to free the Jewish people from the yoke of Roman oppression. All have failed. Into the powder keg rides Yeshua of Nazareth, known today as JesusChrist. A graceful, entertaining narrative designed to present the public with a simplified picture of ancient Palestine and early Christianity. The book does not even look like an academic work of historical analysis. Zealot is absent of footnotes, settling for an extended notes section towards the end of the book. In the text, he picks his sources with a selective bias. When proving his point, Aslan pulls one quote from the gospels as evidence, but neglects legitimate sources that conflict with or repudiate his argument. This is exampled in Aslan s analysis of the kingdom of God. He argues that Jesus s kingdom of God calls for violent action against any who don t support it. To verify this, he refers to the especially violent Parable of the Great Supper in Matthew 22.2: The Kingdom of God in Jesus s teachings...is at once the joyous wedding feast within the king s royal hall, and the blood soaked streets outside its walls. • 12. The Stapedial Or Acoustic Reflex ( Ar ) ABSTRACT: The Stapedial or Acoustic Reflex (AR) is the contraction of the stapedius muscle in response to an adequately loud sound. Bilateral reflex pathways are involved in this occurrence. The aim of the study was to compare the test retest variability on an individual, following a short interval, after the initial test, and also to compare the ARs with pure tone thresholds. The subject had a normal hearing sensitivity, with bilateral A type tympanogram, which indicated normal functioning of the middle ear, and bilateral AR thresholds within normal limits. It was delineated that AR was elicited with requisite intense acoustic signal and this test can be used as a diagnostic tool in collaterally with pure tone audiometry. INTRODUCTION: When a sufficiently intense acoustic signal is presented to either of the ears, stapedius muscle in both the ears contract, as a response to this sound. This phenomenon is termed as AR. Stapes, the smallest middle ear ossicle is attached with a small striated muscle (stapedius muscle) on the side. In response to a loud sound, this muscle contracts, pulling the stapes laterally, which in turn reduced the force by which the footplate of the stapes propels against the oval window. This action permits a considerable protection against loud and stable background noise, but not against sudden loud sounds (e.g.: bomb blast). There are several theories stating the need for AR. пѓ Protection theory: states that AR protects the cochlear ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

It is becoming increasingly common to use calculators in the classroom on a regular basis. Some states allow students to use calculators on standardized tests and as part of the regular curriculum (Dion, 2001). Because we live in such a technologically changing world, hand held calculators have been far surpassed and can be purchased for as low as $4.00 each. This evidence alone is enough proof, for some, that calculator use takes away basic skills and when given a test where these skills come into play, children do not perform well. It is believed that the difference in calculator use based on race and wealth may reinforce inequality in scholastic achievement, rather than narrow them (Golden, 2000). Because calculators are so cheap, in comparison with computers, most schools can afford to provide them for each student, therefore, this is the only technology readily available to low income schools and calculators are often overused (Golden, 2000). In addition, another concern with calculators is that many children feel they are cheating, taking the easy way out, or taking and illegal shortcut by using a calculator. They think they are skipping out on the work and by doing so are being immoral (Dresdeck, 1999). On the contrary, advocates of calculator use in the classroom claim that calculators allow students to spend less time on tedious calculations and more time on understanding and solving problems, help students develop better number sense, allow students to study math concepts that they could otherwise not have time to perform without calculators, allow students who are normally turned off to math increase ... When conducting this process, Hampshire Company took a look at traditional cost method versus activity based costing. Traditional Cost method is defined as The traditional method of costaccounting refers to the allocation of manufacturing overhead coststo the products manufactured. The traditional method (also known as the conventional method) assigns or allocates the factory s indirect costs to the items manufactured on the basis of volume such as the number of units produced, the direct labor hours, or the production machine hours. We will use machine hours in our discussion. By using only machine hours to allocate the manufacturing overhead to products, it is implying that the machine hours are the underlying cause of the factory overhead. Traditionally, that may have been reasonable or at least sufficient for the company s external financial statements. However, in recent decades the manufacturing overhead has been driven or caused by many other factors. For example, some customers are likely to demand additional manufacturing operations for their diverse products. Other customers simply want great quantities of uniform products. Amanda who is the prime suspect, changed her story over and over again during the first few weeks following the murder. Her first story was that neither she nor her boyfriend, Rafaelle, were present at the apartment during the murder. She says they were at Rafaelles smoking pot and having sex ( Murphy Denis). Just five days later her story changed again. She claimed she was present at their apartment as well as Lumamna, who she claimed killed Meredith. However, during her court trial, she confessed that Lumumna was never present and that she made the confession up. Her final confession came back to the first: that she was never at the apartment the night of November 1, and that she didn t remember much of the night because of the weed. Another thing covered in Denis Murphy s, NBC news article was hat Amanda claimed to have returned on the morning of November 2nd and saw traces of a break in, blood on the carpet, but was not alarmed. Amanda then showered and returned to Ralealles houses. They both returned to the apartment around 12:30pm when the police showed up and broke down Meredith s door to find the gruesome murder scene. Murphy, an NBC news journalist, did a great job of collecting quotes from both sides of Amanda s personality. International Relations In Yogyakarta Yogyakarta It has been a widespread knowledge that the international relations study is state centric , as it concerns and analyzes more towards interactions of state, whether bilaterally and/or multilaterally. In spirit of this rather unorthodox choice of actors, there is one particular actor which has a rather big say in shaping national politics if not world politics, cities. Once upon a time our education system was based on one s knowledge of the simplicity of things; however, now a days a children s knowledge isn t based on whether he or she knows the different countries or how to answer 2+2 unless they can relate it to a real world situation. It is based on the pure skill of how to take a test. Standardized testsand Common Core (CC) have recently started denouncing our school system more and more. Children are starting to get lost and confused on topics, parents deem them excessive and unnecessary, and teachers feel inclined to teach to the test and emphasising relating everything back to a real life situation instead of teaching their students a broad spectrum of ideas. With the adoption of Common Core and the addition of multiple standardized tests children are starting to feel lost and left behind when it comes to curriculum. According to Cary Grimm Common Core standards can be compared to jumping over a fence that one knows was 2 feet but evidently was told 3 feet and missed the next level standard. When you set a standard of what a child needs to know in each grade but only used standardized testing to test their knowledge of what they know instead of using a more personal approach, this degrades the system (Stern). Similarly, Cascio (1991) suggests that the combination of the following five requirements along with a performance based pay system can also have a very significant impact on performance. The first of these is skill variety, where a wide variety of tasks or procedures is available to the employee. Next is task identity, where the employee can clearly identify the output of a task as a product of their efforts. This is followed by task significance, where the work is recognised as important and meaningful. After this comes autonomy, where the employees have a major say in work planning and execution. The final requirement is feedback, where employees receive constructive advice or criticism on their performance. The rewards offered can be extrinsic such as wages, incentives and bonuses, or intrinsic such as job satisfaction, an internal feeling of worth and a sense of well being on the job. O Neil (1998) suggests six minimal criteria for the design of a performance based pay system. The first of these criteria is that the reward system should be self funding, that is, the performance increases should as a minimum offset the cost of the rewards provided. The second criterion is that the distribution of the rewards must be consistent, fair and justifiable. In addition reward plans must be transparent and clearly communicated. The third criterion ... In fact, many justices struggled with how to make sense of the ruling and how it could be applied in both similar and different contexts. • 42. Jacobs Incidents In The Life Of A Slave Girl Book Report In Incidents in the Life of a Slave Girl Jacobs argues that many slaves were treated with extreme punishment and inhumanly in the south. She shows that slaves were treated more similarly to property than as workers or actual humans and the fear that they have because of it. This fueled many believers of the antislavery to take action in the abolition of slavery. Throughout Incidents in the Life of a Slave Girl, Jacobs gives multiple examples that show the extreme treatment that many slaves encountered. When Jacobs was talking with Dr. Flint about her wishes to marry a free man and she spoke her mind, she was hit by Dr. Flint. Do you know that I have a right to do as I like with you, that I can kill you, if I please? (Jacobs, 64). This shows that it was not safe for a slave to speak openly and honestly to their masters. If a slave s master was not satisfied, they had every right to punish, rape, or kill the slave because they were considered to be property. This could also be one of the reasons that Jacobs uses the pseudonym Linda Brent; for her own protection. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... If we are going to call this painting Romantic Art one must first know what it actually is or have some sort of idea what is counted as Romanticismor as something that Romantics would do. He interviewed the survivors, drew mutilated corpses in the Paris morgue, and had a model created in his studio of the raft. The painting was 16 feet 1 inch by 23 feet 6 inches so it is huge in size and the dramatic impact was just as amazing. This gave the people a record of an event that happened in a time before photography. At first glance a viewer might just see people huddled on a raft together, a couple waving down a ship, and trying to get someone off canvases attention while others try to keep those who are weaker on the raft. But if they look closer they might notice other things of interest that are commonly found in Romanticism or Romantic Art. Gericault use of the double triangles in this image of the mast and rope help keep the main focus on the people on the raft who are dying or dead. Suffering against heat, dehydration, starvation, and forced to canalize each other to survive which is a true struggle against nature but also against ones self. It would be a very horrific and emotional experience for anyone to have to choose between eating another human being or dying of starvation.
