2. Print Still Matters
Print text is more beneficial than digital text because it s easier to comprehend and your attention
span lasts longer. When people use print over digital text their comprehension improves drastically.
According to the article Print still matters , It demonstrates that students preferred and performed
better when reading on screens. But their actual performance intended to suffer. This is one
important reason why digital text isn t as great as it sounds. Print text has been used for centuries
during B.C and throughout A.D. It was the only type of medium we had, then why are we trying to
substitute it with digital text? Its been used for educationand pleasure for many years. It s how we

Not everyone is used to reading online, and it s more difficult for people to accommodate to this
new way of learning. People have always done an exceptional job in school using print instead of
digital text. One study from the article Print still matters found that Students were able to
comprehend information in print for texts that were more than a page length. When people read on
the computer they seem to rapidly read the text and it s easier for them to miss information. While
reading on paper you re more likely to take your time and actually interact with the text versus
online. You ll be able to engage deeper and relate more to the text if you concentrate on what you

comprehension. People who use digital text for pleasure don t progress in anything, but when they

Marks and Spencer plc is a UK based company. Many people regard the business as a national

M amp;S clothing could also be sold through Sainsbury s stores, providing a powerful boost to the
supermarket s non food business. Last night one City analyst said there was a lot of logic
surrounding the deal and suggested a move could come soon.
He said: M amp;S have a fantastic property portfolio, there would be huge synergies between the
two companies. M amp;S is strong in non food, Sainsbury is strong in food and Sainsbury is
desperately trying to get into non food so a deal is a possibility. It would also help to find a
successor to Sir Stuart Rose.
Despite Rose persuading the City that the company s profits are going to take a hit while the
recession lasts, he has enraged some shareholders by breaching the City s best practice standards
with his twin roles of chairman and chief executive.
City investors and local authority pension funds that hold shares in M amp;S have demanded that
the company appoint an independent chairman or a new chief executive by next summer, and it
is now widely expected that Rose will step down long before the mid 2011 deadline set last year.
A potential tie up between the two has been rumbling ever since Rose let slip at a retail conference
in 2007 that his shareholders would consider him an idiot if he did not think about mounting a
takeover, before adding: Watch this space.
But since then, the fortunes of the two have changed. While M amp;S is struggling against a

Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., a leader well known for his bravery wanted equality between people
of all races. In the passage Heading the Call , Diana Childress writes about his experiences when
he was young. These experiences shaped his beliefs and actions as an adult. King learned about
racial inequality when two sons of a white neighborhood storekeeper stopped playing with him.
Whether the father of the two didn t want them to play with him or the two boys were influenced
by the events around them is not known. Either way King knew this was wrong. His mother was
never too subtle when she explained racial discrimination, but always reminded him that he was
as good as anyone . King also experienced a similar problem when he was in high school. After
winning first prize in a speech contest, he represented his school at a statewide competition. As he
returned home to Atlanta he and his teacher were forced to give up their seats to white passengers
and remained seat less for 90 miles. King said he had never been so angry in his life. In the future

7. U.s. Department Of Homeland Security
On March 31, 2016, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and the Federal Bureau
of Investigation (FBI) started a nationwide campaign to warn against the dangers faced by the
U.S. utilities against the cyberattacks. According to DHS, there were an estimated 331 hacks
or physical attacks against the U.S. power grid from 2011 to 2014. As of February 2016, they
are occurring at a rate of once every 4 days. A major cyberattack on the U.S. electric grid could
cause over $1 trillion in economic damage, estimates ThreatTrackSecurity.com. (MacDonald,
2016, pg. 2). To detect a cyberattack on the power grid, Western Interconnection should implement
a system that will allow public and private authorities to receive Indications and Warning (I W)
when a cyberattack is in its early phase. Koester and Cohen (2012) discuss their Electric Power
Grid Indications Warning Tool in their paper. The purpose of this tool is to provide near real time I
W to alert private and public sector authorities when the likely causes of outage events are malicious
activity. (Koester Cohen, 2012, p. 1). The tool minimizes false alarms due to severe weather and
high temperatures. Implementing this solution will allow administrators at the Western
Interconnection power grid to take precautionary measures as necessary. For example, the
substations can be manually shutdown in case of a cyberattack, to prevent potential damage and
spread of malware. In addition to the aforementioned tool, a

8. Is Hemophilia A Possible Cause Of Unexpected Bleeding...
Introduction
Hemophilia is a possible cause of unexpected bleeding during surgery. This paper will discuss
important topics related to hemophilia, including pathology, risk factors, signs and symptoms, and
treatment.
Anatomy and Physiology of Hemostasis
Hemostasis is the process whereby blood coagulates at the site of an injury to a blood vessel.
Cellular components involved in hemostasis include platelets, endothelial cells of blood vessels,
tissue factor bearing cells, and coagulation factors (Davoren Wang, 2014). Coagulation factors are
specialized plasma proteins that circulate in the bloodstream in inactive forms. Most coagulation
factors are activated by enzymes that catalyze their conversion to active forms. The active forms
then contribute to hemostasis. Factors VIII (FVIII) and IX (FIX) are the factors involved in the
most common forms of hemophilia. The coagulation cascade has many steps and reciprocal
interactions; however, FVIII and FIX are most involved with the following steps:
Injured blood vessel cells release tissue factor (TF), which activates factor VII.
Activated factor VII (FVIIa) and TF bind together to form complex TF VIIa.
Complex TF VIIa activates FIX and X.
Activated factor X converts prothrombin to thrombin.
Thrombin activates factors VIII, V, and XI.
Activated FVIII and FIX also convert prothrombin to thrombin (Davoren Wang, 2014).
There are other coagulation factors, enzymes, and steps involved in the coagulation cascade. As

developments in math. He is described as the first pure mathematician. Pythagoras is a very
important figure in the development of mathematics and he made many contributions to the math
we use today. Pythagoras was born c.570 BCE in Samos, Ionia, Greece and died on c.495 BCE
on Matapontion. There is not a lot of information about his childhood. In 532 BCE, Pythagoras
emigrated to Italy, where he attended a scientific school. One of the teachers who had a big
influence in Pythagoras life was Pherekydes. As well as Thales, a philosophe. Thales introduced
him to math ideas and suggested to go to Egypt to learn more about every subject. So he took...

we do not know what work is his anf what is his followers because there wasn t much writing.
Even though from the Pythagoras actual work nothing is known, Braumbaugh writes that he
studied proportion of numbers, odd and even numbers, perfect numbers, etc. and he states: Each
number had its own personality masculine or feminine, perfect or incomplete, beautiful or ugly.
This feeling modern mathematics has deliberately eliminated, but we still find overtones if it in
fiction and poetry. Ten was the very best number: it contained in itself the first four integers one,
two, three, and four [1 + 2 + 3 + 4 = 10] and these written in dot notation formed a perfect triangle.

10. Abortion Is The Destruction Of A Fetus
In this essay, I will discuss my position on abortion, how it has changed, and how it compares to
others more established positions. Before I can begin this, however, I must first discuss the terms
that will be used and their definitions. For the purposes of this essay an abortion is the destruction
of a fetusat any point in development. A fetus constitutes a fertilized egg. At the moment the egg
and sperm converge, the product is entitled a fetus. Prior to this course, my opinion on abortion
was firm, but underdeveloped. I had a position that stated abortion to be immoral but acceptable
in some cases. By this, I meant that it was always wrong, but could be understood in some cases,
and thus, somehow, less of a wrongness. I see now the major issues with this argument and will
use this essay to better clarify my position, and I will find myself aligning very closely with the
views of Don Marquis, as portrayed by his article entitled An Argument that Abortion is Wrong. I
will expound upon these views as they are shared by mine, but will also cite portions from
writings by Judith Thomson and Mary Anne Warren. I find that my position was developed by
using terms and ideas from these three authors, but I will also discuss how their writings and
views conflict with mine. My position has been altered by new knowledge, and new incorporation
of different circumstances. Prior to this class, I had an opinion that abortion was wrong, but it was
okay if the mother was raped or if

13. The Importance Of Technology And Its Influence In Our Society
Is the humanity given the correct use to the technology? Nowadays, the advancement of technology
not only has brought numerous discoveries for our benefit but also has changed different aspects of
our culture. As R. Buckminster Fuller stated, Humanity is acquiring all the right technology for all
the wrong reasons . Technology is the main influence in our society; specifically, turning it into a
sedentary society, increasing the rate of violence, and losing the communication bond in families.
Most of the cases, technology represents a threat toward us; affecting aspects as our health, jobs,
and education, and making sedentary societies. First, it affects our health due to lack physical
activities. To illustrate, 13 percent of the population around the world suffers from obesity, and the
country which has the highest level of obesity is the United Statesof America that is also the main
global power. After that, machines have replaced the handwork that provokes unemployment. For
instance, in the recent decades, companies needed one thousand employees to make them work; in
contrast, actual companies only need one employee to make one thousand machines work. The last
aspect belongs to education because of technology makes field works and investigations easier. In
most of the majors, teachers prefer that students make a static research by looking for information
on the internet instead of making a field research doing experiments, analyzing diverse factors, and
making their own summarize from what they research. Technology not only changes the lifestyle of
the mankind but also modify the manner how its members behave themselves. The rate of violence
has increased since technology has become in the main pusher. To begin, violence has seized of our
media motivating the offensive attitudes. Presently, this is a reality because of the majority of TV
shows, movies, and series present topics such as drug trafficking, physical and physiological
aggressions, and extortions. Next, the yearning for everything is another point that changes the
behavior of societies. As an imperfection of every human, it always wants to stand out of the rest.
This gives rise to discussions and competitions to know who should

15. President Woodrow Wilson s Speech
Throughout the semester Joseph Nye s signature concepts of hard and soft power have been
analyzed amongst the backdrop of U.S. foreign relations. Hard power is the use of coercion i.e.
military and economic means to influence the behavior of other political bodies (Hudson). This
contrasts to Soft power which is the use of attraction to produce desired foreign policy results [by
focusing] on three key resources: culture, political values, and foreign policies (Hudson). Through
the wielding and usage of the tools of soft power ideas about U.S. values and culture have been
able to attract partners and support to Washington without the use of force and/or threat of further
war and atrocity. Due to this fact it appears soft power is more integral to influencing foreign
relations, especially when considering the effects of actions such as President Woodrow Wilson s
establishment of a Committee on Public Information, President Franklin D. Roosevelts Four
FreedomsSpeech, and President Harry Truman s support for the Marshall Plan. The first key
resource of soft power, culture, can be addressed when speaking to the establishment of the
Committee on Public Information (CPI) by President Woodrow Wilson on April 13, 1917 in
order to usher support for U.S. participation in World War I. Headed by George Creel, the CPI

23. Tradeoffs Between Relational and Object-Oriented Database...
Discuss the tradeoffs between relational and object oriented database management systems
1) Stating Position
The object oriented DBMS is superior to the relational database on some specific counts,
primarily because it can satisfy the complex demands of the market today better than the any
other. Secondly while the relational data base stores data as tables, the object model stores data as
objects and creates associations. This can create a multiple set of attributes for each object such
that the data base is more flexible to the requirements that may be housed for different sets of data
having both similar and dissimilar characteristics. The paradigms then are developed for each set of
common characteristics and unique characteristics of the objects which is not possible in a
relational database that has a very rigid structure. (Bruegge, 2004)
Earlier the heterogeneous systems integration is a major issue. Therefore it has to be considered if
the system proposed is amenable to multiple platforms and will give the same results. There are
many applications available to enforce this, but it is to be borne in mind that in a data management
system many components have to be integrated with the system and the layering of these
components becomes critical. (Thuraisingham, 2001) But the requirements today have gone
beyond the traditional DBMS and the system is expected too seamlessly perform varied functions
like tracking functions, data analysis and reporting, vendor

24. Trials and Tribulations of a Homosexual Essay
The history of the gay rights movement has been a hard fought battle within the United States. In
fact the first gay rights movement dates back to 1924 with the creation of The Society for
Human Rights in Chicago, Illinois. It wasn t until the 1960 s that gay rights started to make
progress. In the year 1969 The Stonewall Riots took place when gay, lesbian, and transgender
patrons of a New York bar were raided by the police. This forever changed the movement from
isolated incidents to a world wide phenomenon.
As generations proceeded, institutions such as the American Psychiatric Society began to classify
homosexuality as a disease, which was later retracted in the 1970 s and was no longer considered a
mental disorder. At this time... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These same people who oppose homosexuality then influence their children who act in the same
manner in which they do. Students today learn words such as queer and fag all too soon and teach
other students to tease and taunt those who may possess slightly feminine characteristics this in
turn causes the said student to have absolutely no self esteem and to view his or herself in a
unhealthy and unnatural way. Complete acceptance of homosexuality will probably never be
gained within society however there are still various adversities homosexuals must endure more
than heterosexuals, such as anti gay bullying within school systems, various types of
discrimination, and ultimately fighting for their basic rights.
As a child they must deal with certain factors that they cannot change no matter how hard they
try. For example eye color, hair color, height, weight, and so on and so forth. Then based on
these factors it is determined whether a child is liked in school by others. However there is
another factor, that determines if a child is liked, and that is, whether a student is gay . Students
nowadays judge one another solely based on belief if someone is gay . Children use the gay word
out of context everyday and the effects of their harmful slander can be detrimental.
Teachers and principles may refer to this as just normal bullying,

26. Dbq Treaty Of Versailles
Many factors contribute to a group of people failing to accomplish a goal, but the stubbornness of
participants often is a leading cause. The Senate s failure to ratify the Treaty of Versailles in 1919
shows this idea, due to the feud between President Woodrow Wilson and the Internationalists, and
Henry Cabot Lodge and the Reservationists. The Internationalists fully supported the passing of the
Treaty of Versailles, whereas the Reservationists believed it was necessary to change the Treaty,
specifically Article Ten. Similarly, Borah and the Irreconcilables believed that the League of Nations
was in conflict with one of the ideals the nation was founded on; to not engage in foreign
entanglements. As Senator William Borah, put it, the League... Show more content on

The Republicans resisted the Treaty because they believed that if it were to be ratified, Wilson s
prestige would soar and he might even be re elected for a third time (Bailey, 184). Thus, the
Republican Party was against the Treaty of Versailles in its original form out of fear. Wilson
fully believed that the Treaty was going to bring world peace, and regardless of this belief, the
Republican Party voted against it because of who came up with it. Wilson fought greatly for it
and said that if the Treaty failed that he would gather all the soldiers who fought in World War
One and tell them I told you before you went across the seas that this was a war against wars and
I did my best to fulfill the promise, but I am obliged to come to you in mortifications and shame
and say I have not been able to fulfill the promise, (Wilson). Wilson was willing to take blame for
the hypothetical failure of the Treaty of Versailles and the Republicans still voted against it
because they did not want Wilson s popularity to go up. Wilson believed so strongly in Article
Ten that he believed that the League of Nations would justify the United States honor and bring
peace to the world (Wilson). The belief that the Republican Party did not ratify the Treaty
because they did not want to risk another Wilson presidency is absurd. This idea perpetuates the
idea that if one person, in a position of power, strongly believes in something, then it must good.
One can apply this idea to how strongly Wilson believed in the Treaty of Versailles, yet it was not
enough to convince the Senate that the League of Nations Collective Security Covenant was a
good idea. It was not the Republican Party s fear of a third term of Wilson that caused the death of
the Treaty, but Wilson himself. The belief that if

27. Drinking And Driving Case Study
1.Was This Presentation Valuable?
This presentation on the risks of driving while under the influence of cannabis was extremely
informative while also being engaging and interesting at the same time. In my opinion, the
presentation was particularly valuable because drugs have become a very prominent subject
among my age group, and not everyone is knowledgeable of all the risks associated with
smoking. In health, we learn about the effects of drugs and the risks of drinking alcohol and
driving, however, we don t really cover the topic of smoking and driving, which leads people to
think there is nothing at risk. This presentation informs us of the potentially deadly risks of driving
while under the influence of cannabis that many people are unaware of. As well, the information
provided not only informs people who do/might smoke in the future of what they may be putting at
risk, but it also informs people of the risk who then could prevent a friend of potentially making
the poor decision of smoking and driving.

One interesting thing is that almost 50% of youth indicated no concerns about smoking and driving.
I found this puzzling because as teens, our school, parents, and the media constantly tell us about
the dangers of drugs and how they impair our thinking. I found it interesting to know that although
most teens know the risks of smoking, they don t have concerns for increasing those risks by
driving, which would put many more people at risk of an accident. Another thing I found
interesting is that almost 1 in 5 youths in vehicle accidents tested positive for cannabis. This shows
how prominent the issue is in our society, especially in youth, and proves that more promotion of
the risks should be done, such as this type of presentation, in order to control the

28. Why College Should Go To College
Most kids in elementary school believe that they will go to college and become whatever they want,
all they have to do is choose what they want to be, some choosing between a police man, lawyer or
doctor. However things are not as simple as we were told as kids and nowadays people are
wondering if they should even go to college. The increased cost of debtin student loans are one of
the main reasons why people are weary of going to college. People believe that college is a waste of
time and money, however I believe the opposite and that college is the best way to have a
financially successful future as well as become a productive member of society.
While one may argue that there are many billionaires without college degrees like Bill Gates and
Mark Zuckerberg they should also take into account that they both briefly attended Ivy League
schools and that their success stories are an extremely rare occurrence. On average a high school
degree can only get you an annual salary of about $35,000 while a bachelor s degree can get you
an annual salary of around $65,000. The fact that in 4 years you can double your annual income
should be enough evidence that college is where you should go after high school. Along with
getting more pay a college education also provides you with networking. In college you meet

30. Analyzing Gallagher’s Oroonoko’s Blackness Essay
Analyzing Gallagher s Oroonoko s Blackness
Oroonoko is a fascinating text overflowing with descriptions of complex relations between and
within the different races. The attitudes and actions of the Aphra Behn and her characters would
make for a rich analysis from any number of behavioral approaches, but there are many more layers
to this story than the dominant racial themes. In fact, in Oroonoko s Blackness Catherine Gallagher
argues that the main character s unusually dark skin color actually represents kingship,
commodification, and the degree to which he and the author are embodied in the work. Though
Gallagher recognizes the significance of Oroonoko s ethnicity in the conflict between the African
and European groups, she ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
She adds that Oroonoko is also associated with worth in that his color establishes him as a
marketable good. Because he is black and able to be sold in the slave trade, a quantitative value
can be placed on him, transforming him into a commodity. And the fact that he is darker than
other blacks suggests that he would receive a higher price. So Gallagher believes that Oroonoko s
blackness conveys a higher value, and because of her clear reasoning, the reader does, too.
When these ideas, personal worth and blackness, are combined, Oroonoko appears separated
from and elevated above the rest of his race. Gallagher writes that this creates the notion of
kingship, that Oroonoko is really a culmination of all of his subjects less perfect darkness (94).
Despite Oroonoko s royalty, the reader would naturally question why he should represent kingship
when it is his grandfather that rules over everyone, including Oroonoko. Gallagher anticipates this
and describes how the grandfather is merely brown and has a failing body, thereby falling short of
Oroonoko s greater blackness and perfection, which better fulfills the common perception of the
mystical body of kingship (94). She further supports this by citing Oroonoko s treatment of his
subjects as property through the slave trade, which only kingship gives him the right to do. John

speed. Tornados can not spin that fast. But both of their winds are powerful. The fastest tornado

32. Summary Of The Movie Neanderthal
I think the movie did portray the neanderthals abilities realistically. When Charlie made fire, used
stone tools for his benefit, and hunted for small game in his habitat it showed a strongly realistic
perception of him. When looking at archaeological evidence, we see that Neanderthals could carry
out these duties and this is how they survived. Another time Charlie was perceived realistically was
when he adapted to his new environment so quickly. A neanderthals frontal lobe shows some of the
first signs of advancement among early hominins. With this being said, Charlie figured out quickly
how to hunt game, communicate with Shepherd, and how to make fire in his new setting.
Neandertals had to have been skilled hunters. These findings are part of a growing body of
literature that suggests
Neandertal subsistence behavior was more complex than previously thought (Wong, 2000). In the
movie, Shepherd questions if Charlie could interact socially with him and somewhat understand
his english. Charlie does a great job of showing social communication to Shepherd. He has his
own kind of language, which they interpret and understand what he is saying. Charlie also shows
signs of understanding what Shepherd says to him. When he told him no, Charlie kind of turns
away or gets upset as if he knew what no meant. When they realize Charlie is asking where his
children are, he draws children in the dirt. This proved that Charlie had potential for living among
humans today. Charlie also

38. Analysis Of Alfred Hitchcock And Christopher Nolan
When it comes to movies, many directors are good at their jobs. However, other directors are great
in the art of film making. There is no doubt such statement is considered utterly subjective, but what
would life be without subjectivity, for it is our differences that make us thrive against a monotonic
existence. By the same token, Alfred Hitchcockand Christopher Nolanutilize their singularities to
create films that for decades have impacted the movie making universe. In fact, it is their
differences that provide us with a high contrast to compare and scrutinize their job and find what
made them great at it. In his trajectory, Hitchcock was called by many the father of suspense.
Usually, his films would contain a deep level of psychological thrill that would captivate his
audience. Similarly, Nolan was perhaps influenced by Hitchcock and integrated the same degree
of suspense and psychological thrill to his films. Nonetheless, the question becomes why would
they choose this route, and the answer we find in psychology. There are people with adrenaline
seeking behavior, which means such individuals enjoy the adrenalin released through fear
experiences. Nevertheless, real life dangerous situations could lead to death; as a result, people
found a way to experience, to some extent, a similar level of fear without jeopardizing their lives.

39. Critical Reasoning And Battle Of Thermopylae
Critical Reasoning and Battle Analysis of the Battle of Thermopylae
One of the most historic battles fought in the 5th century BC was the Battle of Thermopylae. The
Greeks and Persians battled for control of a narrow pass located at Thermopylae. This pass served
as the most direct route into mainland Greece and allowed freedom of maneuver to the Persians.
The Persians received a critical piece of human intelligence that allowed them to defeat the Greeks
at the pass. The purpose of this paper is to analyze the battle and determine an alternate outcome
based on the use of that intelligence.
The Battle of Thermopylae
Definition of the Battle
The Battle of Thermopylae took place in 5th century BC in Northern Greece. The primary
adversaries were the Persians and the Greeks. The Persian army, led by Xerxes I, far outnumbered
the Greek forces. Despite this, the Greeks were able to maintain control of the pass for three days.
The Settings of the Battle
Strategic and operational overview. The battle of Thermopylae was one of many battles fought by
the Persians in the quest to expand their empire, and the second in their quest to rule Greece. The
Greeks fought at the battle of Thermopylae to maintain rule of their own land and resist
submission to the Persians. In 491 BC, King Darius of Persia sent messengers to demand the
Greeks submit to Persian rule. The Greeks refused and incited the first battle in the war between

The word reading lesson that I focused on is making words and is geared towards a fourth or

words, prefixes, and suffixes. Through accomplishing the lesson students will understand root
words, prefixes, and suffixes, as well as how to create new words by adding prefixes and suffixes to
rootwords, and finally be able to increase their vocabulary understanding by applying their new
knowledge from the lesson. From this lesson students will break words into segments that they
already know or understand. For instance, breaking up the wordungrateful into un grate ful allows
the student to comprehend that the prefix un means not . When looking at the root word, students
