The Rise And Fall Of Troy Maxon
The Rise and Fall of Troy Maxon: An Analysis of August Wilson s play Fences In Fences, August
Wilson, the playwright, provides a believable and powerful examination of the African American
experience in the late 1950 s. It provides an apt portrayal of the mentality of African American men
going into the civil rights movement, as well as a well developed account of the friction that occurs
between a father and a son, and a husband and wife in the face of conflict. According to Wilson, his
play provides Caucasians with a view into an African Americans life to find similarities to their own
(Kennedy and Gioia 1883). Not only did Wilson accomplish this, but also provided a representation
of interfamily relationships that occurs in many cultures. For instance, Katz maintains that the
father son relationship contains ... inherent seeds of conflict (Katz). The relationship between Cory
and Troy mirrors the conflict between many young men and their fathers as they attempt to create
their identity and independence while the fathers are still attempting to shape their future based on
their experiences, creating conflict that transcends differences in race and culture. Similarly, the
issue of infidelity in a marriage is another issue that is common in a multitude of cultures (Hartnett),
and addressed in this play through Bono s accusations toward Troy, and Troy s subsequent
admission to Rose that he had an affair resulting in a child. Wilson puts the most effort into

Persuasive Essay About What You Will Never Go With You
A wise woman once said, I believe that great people do things before they are ready. They do
things before they know they can do it. She also said, Never go to the movies without being
completely stoned. I whole heartledly agree with both. (hahaha just kidding mom) But aside from
that, I love Amy Poehler, and I love Tina Fey. Tina Fey didn t say these things, but I could go on
about quotes from them. During this week I wanted to drop out of school. But then I went and
met with my Student Success Advisor, which is someone who basically helps you plan out your
schooling, and my further education was saved. I left her office on top of the world. I kid you
not, I walked around campus saying in my head, wow, Madie, you are so smart and cool and
funny. You are the whole deal. School is going to fly by and you will be one bad A lawyer. etc...
etc.... I got so motivated, I finished all of my homework, cleaned my whole house, applied for
several jobs, and studied for a philosophy exam. (philosophy sucks by the way) So I thought I
would share some positivity with you. First piece of advice, don t be so hard on yourself. The
mom in E.T. literally had an alien living in her house and didn t notice. The thingthat you may be
going through, you most likely have not been there before. We often jump into things without
knowing what is going to happen next. That doesn t mean we are dumb or stupid or foolish, but
rather brave and daring. You don t know what is going to happen. Every

Oklahoma Funded Program Case Study
Oklahoma funded program 9: Lead to Read. LTR had 36 AmeriCorps members serving schools in
Lincoln, Osage, Logan, Creek, Pawnee, Okfuskee, Payne and Carter counties. LTR members were
assigned to local districts and provided one on one and small group literacy instruction to k 3
students in need of remediation (OCSC, 2015).
Through the OCSC. the LTR program was established. Public School programs and in particular
literacy programs are one of the most prolific areas for AmeriCorps service (Simon, 2002).

report using time sheets. Students are assessed two other times throughout the year for progress

Review Of Richard Louv s Last Child On The Woods ( 2008 )
The twenty first century fills itself with fast improving technology that alters people s lives. The
world adapts to technology as a normal way of life and without it, people are considered out of
this touch or unknown. Society has become too reliant on their smartphones, televisions, and video
games that they seem to be delusional about the world around them and tend to go outside less and
stay inside more hiding themselves from humanity. Statistics say that technology keeps friends,
family, and co workers in touch, but it does not keep them in touch with nature. Today, civilians
are separated from reality by new advancements that are supposed to enhance people s lives for the
greater good, yet what all of these new advancements do is... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

The sheer popularity of stimulating nature or using nature as ad space demands that we
acknowledge, even respect, their cultural importance, suggests Richtel. Culturally important, yes.
But the logical extension of synthetic nature is the irrelevance of true nature the certainty that it
s not even worth looking at. (Louv lines 9 19) The text illustrates how today, advertisers only
value their financial opportunities rather than the significance of the environment. Major
companies place billboards, street signs, and bench ads to reach out to a fraction of the
population that is on the road. Not only are the ads a disturbance to the drivers, but the
businesses do not pay the least attention to the environment and only consider the economic
improvements and money they will receive. Yes, ads are essential to improve the consumer rate
for a company, but it is not needed to destroy a part of nature or to violate a child s view from the
car window to get a company s point across. Technology may be there to create a cure for cancer
or to build better lives for the poor, but look at what technology is doing to the minds of children,
teens, and adults. Can people see their shifts in behaviors or the differences in how they talk and
communicate with one another? Can people see their children suffering or see teenagers
cyberbullied? Technology

The Emperor Is Wearing No Clothes, By Mark Henkal
Mark Henkal is the self described National Polygamy Advocate. In his speech The Emperor is
Wearing No Clothes, he argues the case of why Christian polygamy should be accepted. He uses
four main points to get his opinion across: grace law hypocrisy, polygamists in the Bible, the
meaning of adultery and one flesh, and prohibitions of leaders in the Bible. An individual with little
to no Biblical knowledge might find that his argument makes sense. Just listening to the speech,
without any critical thinking involved, might even persuade those with slightly more Biblical
knowledge. Although outwardly he may seem to make solid arguments, there is much more to the
polygamyargument than he brought forth. The first justification for polygamy that he presents is
that it was not banned, but was regulated under the law, therefore causing polygamy to be an
accepted form of lifestyle. The verses given to support this claim are Exodus 21:10, If he marries
another woman, he must not deprive the first one of her food, clothing, and marital rights, and
Deuteronomy 21:15, if a man has two wives..., but there are issues with how these verses are
being used. The Bible is not addressing the issue of polygamy in these verses. They are being
taken out of context and bent to please the will of one man; the former is under the context of
servants and the latter is about the rights of the firstborn son. Based on this, I would say that this
point invalid and not worth further discussion. The

Malcolm X As A Transformational Leader
From his troubled childhood to his politically powerful movement for Black equality, Malcolm
Little, later known as Malcolm X, evolved into a transformational leader. The effects of his
leadership were felt around the world during the 1960s. Americans were faced with great
uncertainty during this time. For all minority groups in the United States, politics, the government
and its laws, and society as a whole were changing drastically. In response to years of oppression, a
collection of concerned groups formed the civil rights movement which rallied African American
people together to fight for equal rights, access, and opportunities. Malcolm Xwas one of the most
influential civil rights leaders of this era as the loudest voice for the African American community.
His leadershipwas effective because of the way he utilized a radical idea to convert and influence
his followers.
Malcolm X was born on May 19, 1925, in Omaha, Nebraska as one of eight children. He learned
very early on the value of his African American history and culture. His father was a Baptist
minister and an avid supporter of Pan African activists which attracted death threats and violence
from white supremacist groups. He was later suspiciously killed and Malcolm s mother suffered
an emotional breakdown and was later committed to a mental institution. Sadly Malcolm was
displaced from his home and forced into foster care where he had no support system and felt the
weight of white oppression daily. Nebraska

An Experiment On The Reaction Of Acid And Decanting Has On...
Purpose:
It s important for reactions in aqueous solutions to reach equilibrium, meaning that both products
and reactants need to be present before continuing to the next reaction or next step. In this
experiment, copper was changed through eight different reactions. Throughout the process,
qualitative observations were recorded to see what effect each type of acid and decanting has on
copper. All of these steps were successfully completed by using different acidic solutions and zinc
to take copper through the cycle from copper solid to copper nitrate to copper hydroxide, to copper
oxide, to copper II sulfate, and back to copper solid.
Procedure:
CHE 131 Experiment 8, General Chemistry I Lab, 131 Quarter 2014 2015, DePaul University.

Zinc was added till the solution was clear during the reduction.
When washing the copper at the end, there was only one wash with water.
Data and Results:
The table below shows the qualitative date observed throughout the whole process of the copper
cycle.

“Hello Ladies (And Gentlemen)”, Ever Wonder What Other
Hello ladies (and gentlemen) , ever wonder what other meanings commercial ads bring to the
table? Generally often used to attract buyers and consumers, some popular ads were created to
have an appeal to the topic of a certain gender in order to endorse that product advertised.
Commercial ads can give a very positive appeal, or even a negative one, being a widespread topic
that could be considered as controversial to many today. Genderin advertisements can create an
influence upon those who are currently viewing it, and may even convince the viewer to buy that

image that all men want to be seen as. There is that manly air of toughness, confidence, and self

Old Spice ads create that male gender characteristic with the low voice, muscular body, and
appearance of wealth. This is not exactly what men are, but it is almost what men are expected

The Time Value Of Money Essay
Until Wednesday April 8, 2015 no country had ever offered a ten year bond that gave investors a
yield of less than zero percent. That was until Switzerland offered ten year bonds that lenders are
paying to hold. While many countries like the United States Federal Reserve are preparing to
increase interest rates, the European Central Bankis driving them down. The decreasing interest
rates have forced countries like Switzerland to offer negative yields on their bonds in order to keep
their currency from increasing too far about their Eurozone (European nation) neighbors. However,
this notion challenges the very fundamentals of investing in the bondmarket. Numerous countries
throughout the Eurozone and Europe are also seeing their yields turning negative. Whereas, various
European countries rates have only slightly fallen below zero, others continue to fall deeper into
negative territory. It appears that the time value of money (one of the fundamental cores of
investing) seems to count for very little throughout the European bond market.
Although Switzerland was the first to sell ten year bonds with negative interest rates several other
European countries (both inside and outside the Eurozone) have sold government debt securities
with negative yields. Up until now the highest government debt instrument were five year
maturities.
Switzerland s issuing of a ten year bond with a negative yield is only one of the numerous strange
monetary occurrences throughout the European

Application of the Vitalistic and Mechanistic Philosophies...
With regards to vitalism and mechanism, there lacks a distinct boundary separating these two
scientific philosophies. However, their implications and biases when slanted either particular way
are significant enough to observe. Natural history has been the subject of great debate, scrutiny, and
passion amongst many scientists from early on in biologyto present times. Currently mechanism has
risen to be the dominant theory in biology, but not without hardship and deep philosophical
reasoning supported by empirical evidence. To understand these two philosophies, it s imperative to
establish a clear understanding of what each category represents. The mechanistic philosophy
purports that life operates as mechanical process governed by the fundamental physical laws
provided via the universe. This philosophy goes further in thought that there is not necessarily a
designer or ultimate purpose for the execution of life in general. In contrast, vitalist philosophy
claims that there is an innate specific quality and function that gives existence its ultimate
characteristics. Folks in this line of thought tend to argue further that there is definite design and
purpose living entities, implying the existence of a celestial super power or being that interacts
making life what it is. A pronounced example of a naturalist who conceded with this line of thought
was Georges Louis Leclerc, comte de Buffon. Referring to his paper From the natural history of

By taking pilgrims hostage, King Philip and his colleagues made a deal that they could exchange
their prisoners for payoff as cash, weapon, or procurements. The assault on Lancaster in 1675 was
one of the most punctual strikes. However, it did not come completely abruptly. Before the assault,
gossipy tidbits had coursed that the Wampanoag tribes were arranging vicious strikes on the
boondocks settlements of what is presently in western Massachusetts. A few pilgrims including the
Reverend Joseph Rowlandson were considered these bits of gossip and noticed important and
ventured out to Boston to approach the administration there for military guide. The assault was
crushing. Numerous pioneers in the town were executed or injured, and other, including Mary
Rowlandson and a few of her relatives were taken hostage.
IN a Mary Rowlandson s narrative, the relationship between the Native American and the Puritans

Native American and the Puritans in New England supported their life by hunting and plotting the

Havn Fun Family Entertainment Center (HFFEC) is in the industry of Family Entertainment
Centers also known as FECs. Family entertainment is a very profitable business because families
are always looking for affordable local facilities to enjoy their time together. We want to help
restore the broken bond between families caused by many outside forces, the busyness of life, and
common distractions that drive them apart. We plan to make fun cool again. Starting out in
Beaumont, Texas we have the advantage of entering into a place where strong familyvalues are
important. As a child growing up in this city I remember there were many places to go to have
fun. Places like Putt Putt Golf, a skating rink that was off Highway 105 where after the skating
stopped at midnight it would turn into a dance floor where people could dance, mingle, have good
clean fun until they closing time. There were also a small amusement parkwith children s
amusement park, rides and games. There was also a Go Kart riding place for families to just ride
around the track laughing and smiling. After moving away from Beaumont, I moved into bigger
cities where I saw family fun on a greater level. Visiting six Flags in Atlanta introduced me to plenty
of fun, excitement, and amusement on a grand scale.
We want to bring that same kind of family oriented fun, love, and excitement to the city of
Beaumont. We will have some of the latest technology in the Family Entertainment Industry

Persuasive Speech On Rock And Roll
Today, rock and roll music, is not in the forefront of the music industry. Much debate is being
made over its decline, with many people saying that, Rock is dead. While on the other side of the
record album, people are saying, It s not dead and will make a comeback. It is this writer s opinion,
that rock and rollis awaiting its rebirth, and if you pay close enough attention to the birthing
sounds, you will agree. Rock and roll was conceived by rhythm and blues musicin the 40 s and 50
s, with a fast, dynamic rhythm, that held a powerful beat. Its lyrics were filled with anger and
defiance. Today, our world has plenty to be angry about and of course, even more to be defiant

the turbulent passion that they themselves experience every day in the form of grief, strives

USB and Seth complains about leaving the club and coming back to the office at 10:00pm.
Compared to Peter, Seth cares more about the well being of himself than of the survival of the
company. For example, when Peter and Seth are in the taxi, Seth pulls out a large beer and asks
Peter if he wants one, Peter says no and Seth says What, we got them on our way to meet you at

attachment and need for her daughter overpowers her knowledge that it is time for Nola to grow up.
She would prefer for Nola to remain young. Despite her mother s desire, Nola is growing up and
becoming her own person.
Nola has embraced the beginning of adulthood and handles it very well. She tries to be an
individual by picking out clothes that are funky and fashionable (Oates 836). She makes an
astute and mature recognition be expressing the fact that she is not worried about the disheveled
woman [ s] affect on the people but the effect the people will have on the women (Oates 836).
She also defiantly smokes a cigarette in front of her mother. The rebellion is trying to show that
she is old enough to not have to follow her mother s rules or that she even cares what her mother
thinks. However, she has not reached full maturation because she is unable to recognize that her
mother only wants to be a part of her life. Her mother has needs too. Her mother only wants to be
loved, but Nola is constantly pushing her mother away.
In a store, Mrs. Dietrich watches her [Nola] covertly, and once Nola notices that she is being

Essay on Franz Kafka s Use of Humor
Franz Kafka s Use of Humor
Franz Kafka, born on July 3, 1883 in Bohemia, in the city of Prague, has been recognized as one
of the greatest writers of the twentieth century. His works have been called cloudy, mysterious,
inexplicable (Oates ix). Most people hear the term Kafkan or Kafkaesque and think of dark,
fantastic tales with almost no basis in our known reality. But what of Kafka s sense of humor? I
personally laughed out loud several times while reading Kafka s Amerika. Were these snippets of
humor part of Kafka s plan or mere accidents?
According to Roy Pascal, author of Kafka s Narrators: A Study of His Stories and Sketches, There
is a good deal of humour in these early stories, as in the novels and later stories, but ... Show more

Georg s father goes on to kick and yell at Georg extensively. Through this entire barrage and
beating from his father the only thought that pops into Georg s head is he has pockets even in his
shirt (Kafka 86) referring to his father s nightshirt. This left turn from the heat of the moment is
quirky enough to give the reader pause and wonder what is going on. Such was Kafka s intent.
Another good example is in the novel Amerika. Here, protagonist Karl Rossman comes to at
3:00 am after a serious fight with two men, Robinson and Delamarche, whom he met shortly
after his arrival to the United States from Germany. He wanders out onto the balcony of the
apartment he is trapped in and makes the acquaintance of a student studying on the balcony next
door. Karl discovers the student works at Montly s department store all day and then studies and
goes to school all night. When asked when he sleeps Karl hears, Oh sleep! said the student. I ll
get some sleep when I m finished with my studies. I keep myself going on black coffee. A fine
thing black coffee. I don t like black coffee, said Karl. I don t either , said the student laughing.
But what could I do without it? If it weren t for black coffee Montly wouldn t keep me for a
minute. I simply don t know how I would get on in the shop if I didn t have a big bottle like this
under the counter, for I ve never dared to risk stopping the coffee drinking... (Kafka 267). Why

Food Log Report From Diet Plus
In my food log, I tracked my food and liquid consumption for five days in a row. I thought this
was interesting process, but I kinda of liked it. At some points of the process I thought it was
kinda of difficult to remember to log the food I ate on the computer. But, ultimately I thought it
was worth it because I got to see all the macro and micro nutrients I consumed which is something
I don t always get to see.
I would saw that my consumption of kcals were around the same range. Out of the five days I
tracked my intake, I ranged around 1,000 kcals a day. I guess you could say that I don t really a
good variety of foods in my diet, so I would definitely change that by adding more fruits and
vegetables. I also would make the change of eating a little bit more food, because I think only 1,000
kcals a day is a little less. I think I will try to bum it up to 1,500 or 1533 which is my recommended

Looking at the combination report, it was in all the appropriate ranges from the AMDR range. I

Comparing the Openings of the Film Versions of Romeo and Juliet by Franco Zeffirelli and Baz
Luhrmann Both openings of Romeo and Juliet by Franco Zeffirelli and Baz Luhrmann show
similarities and contrasts. Although both versions are faithful to the text as the words spoken by
the voiceover in the Prologue are the same, the methods of presentation are clearly different.
Zeffirelli places the film in the 17th century and takes a more traditional approach. By using a
white middle aged male for the voiceover, Zeffirelli is just giving the audience exactly what they
expect, the first opportunity to see Romeo and Juliet on the screen is when as the film was made in

I think it is also important that the statue is smaller than the skyscrapers as this suggests that the
families in this time were so powerful that they were in fact more influential than God. I think
that the purpose of the frantic introduction and the short takes represent snapshots taken by a
camera and give the impression that there is a lot of action in the film. Zeffirelli, however uses
only 2 shots in his opening with slow panning from left to right, this connotes a slow, more
tranquil film. Luhrmann ignores the stereotypes of Shakespeare, so therefore he has more
freedom to portray the film in a modern way. There is a quiet string quartet playing in Zeffirelli s
opening which creates a calm atmosphere. The non diegetic music in Luhrmann s is Cammina
Burra , which is a dramatic opera and as the music crescendos, all of the snapshots become faster
and have more dramatic images like gun battles and fighting. This makes the audience realise that
the music will be connected to what is happening in the film, and the directors could use a
diminuendo to build tension during tense moments. This opera connotes the emotions anger,
despair and confusion, and because the music climaxes early on, before the audience has time to
settle into the film, suggests that the film is going to be action packed and will grab their attention
straight away. The uses of the various sizes of

Essay on California Space Heaters
California Space Heaters, Inc.
November 30, 2010
There is a fine line between how much safety a corporation should provide to the consumer
regarding its products vs. how much responsibility of safety should fall on the average consumer.
Take, for instance, the all too familiar McDonald s coffee episode. Does McDonald s have a
responsibility to its customers to ensure the coffee isn t hot enough to scald if spilled upon one s
lap? Or should the customer be held responsible for their own safety in regards to common sense
judgment? This is what California Space Heaters, Inc. (CSH) must consider when deciding exactly
which products to launch. Kerosene heaters are often times used in shops and garages as well as
inside homes. They ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A corporation that has been given such estimates from its engineering department has a
responsibility to implement a safety device. Electric start is the single most important option that
should be incorporated on all models for safety reasons. The profile of users in a shop or garage
setting differs greatly from users in a home. Users in a shop or garage are more likely to be
mechanically inclined. Additionally, safety features are arguably more important in a home than in
a shop or garage. In a home, the heater is typically closer to combustibles, including furniture,
curtains, and carpet. Due to these variables, CSH should market an indoor/outdoor heater and an
outdoor only heater. The only necessary option on the outdoor heater is the electric start, as
previously discussed. A shop or garage user will likely be more mechanically inclined and able
to adjust the wick accurately. A thermostat shouldn t be needed because the unit will less likely
be near combustibles. Overheating due to flare ups will not be as big of an issue either because
of the surroundings, not to mention the user is more likely to notice flare ups because the unit
will only be operating when he or she is in the garage or shop, in most cases. A removable tank
would also not be necessary since fill up is easier outdoors.
On the other hand, the indoor/outdoor heater should have three options incorporated on the base
model. The first is the electric start option, as mentioned

Paul Von Hindenburg Argument
In the words of Max Weber, This lecture, which I give at your request, will necessarily disappoint
you in a number of ways. I begin here to let the reader know I do not intend on conforming to the
regular hypothesis in the case of Paul Ludwig Hans Anton von Beneckendorff und von Hindenburg,
more commonly known as Paul von Hindenburg. This general hypothesis on his character may
paint him as a villain in the eyes of history, however, I will argue here that he was forced into a
situation of unfortunate circumstances. His case consists of many political and military ups and
downs and he is most famously known for appointing Adolf Hitlerto the position of chancellor and
therefore plunging the Nazi party into power. This one choice by Hindenburg was the first domino

In this essay I will argue for neither option provided by the prompt as I feel the options provided

Germany knew it and that his actions were constrained by the pre existing circumstances. I will
argue that the existing political climate in which Hindenburg was elected to was already on the
way to radicalism. Furthermore, I will also use historical evidence to help prove that his
decisions did help to shape modern Germany. Each choice a leader makes has the potential to
shape a world for years to come. Throughout history we see time and time again one pivotal
choice that had a butterfly effect and created a massive change in the way history occurred. I am
arguing that Paul von Hindenburg s decision to promote Hitler to this position of power, even if
reluctantly, was one that has had a major impact on history as we now know

Korean Americans racial relations with Latinos changed after the 1992 Civil Unrest. The
relationships between Korean and Latinos are described as labor relations. Korean merchants
employed Latino workers more than any other ethnic groups because the cost for Latino labors is
less costly. (Park, 1997). In addition, many Latinos believed that Korean Americans have a
positive impact on their neighborhoods because Korean owned businesses provide employment
opportunities for Latino immigrants (Park, p.147). Even though the relationship between Korean

worked together for a very long time and are familiar with each other s culture customs. After the
1992 Civil Unrest, the relationship between some Korean Latino changed negatively. Some
Latinos have negative experiences with Korean merchants before, where they received black

Tudor Succession Problems Essays
Tudor Succession Problems
The Tudor period is unique in that it is marked by succession difficulties in every generation. The
Tudor dynasty was plagued by poor health, short lives and a shortage of male claimants to the
throne. For three successive monarchs the throne passed not from ruler to child, but from sibling to
sibling and three consecutive monarchs died childless. Henry VIII s search for a suitable male heir
to his throne had far reaching ramifications. This period is distinctive in that it would start the
precedent of determining the succession by statute in consultation with Parliament. The
parliamentary enactments and wills that he had created complicated the succession issue for future
generations in the attempt to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Even if his Beaufort line could be considered for the throne, Henry s mother would be in line to
succeed before him. It was in fact remarkable that Henry VII ever succeeded to the throne and
England accepted him as king for Henry VII was a former attainted exile who did not have a
strong hereditary claim to the throne. But it was his victory at Bosworth field that brought him
the throne, not his descent; his weak hereditary claim gave his accession some semblance of
legitimacy. Bosworth helped him consolidate his dynasty for it not only eliminated some of the
other principle claimants to the English throne, it was regarded by contemporaries as an
expression of divine will, as Henry would tell parliament the true judgement of God in granting
him victory over his enemy in the field. In order to further consolidate his claim Henry married
Elizabeth of York. He did so partially at the request of Parliament, partly because he could not
afford the political price of going back on his pre Bosworth promise and most importantly to
prevent anyone with ambitions for the throne from marrying Elizabeth, who had the stronger
claim. However the succession was by no means secure in Henry VII s reign. When Henry VII s
heir Prince Arthur died prematurely on April 2, 1502 Prince Henry was only ten, and if he were
not to survive there remained only his sisters Margaret and Mary. Henry VII fell ill

Sonnet 116 Love Essay
Love is a central theme in William Shakespeare s sonnets, yet the means by which love is
expressed and the form in which it takes differs across various sonnets. In sonnet 116,
Shakespeare lavishes the reader with beautiful imagery of love in its most idyllic form. On the
other hand, in sonnet 130, he adopts a more realistic approach to loveas it is experienced by
everyday people. In both cases, the poet is able to artfully convey the theme of love in its various
forms such that the reader is able to easily recognize and identify with it.
Sonnet 116 depicts love in its ideal form. The poet discusses how marriage brings together true
minds (1). By emphasizing the importance of the mind, he is minimizing the physical attraction

There is no use of grandiose metaphor or allusion; he does not compare his love to Venus, there
is no evocation to Morpheus, etc. In fact, it is the polar opposite as he states, I grant I never saw
another goddess go , essentially making clear that his love is no form of beautiful divinity. The
ordinary beauty and humanity of his lover are important to Shakespeare in this sonnet, and he
deliberately uses typical love poetry metaphors against themselves. Another example of this
reversal is when he says how I have seen roses damasked, red and white, but no such roses see I
in her cheeks to emphasize that she does not fit the mold of classic romanticized imagery. The
references to love affiliated objects of perfection are indeed present, but they are there to illustrate
that his lover is not as beautiful a total rejection of Petrarch form and content. Shakespeare utilizes a
new structure, through which the straightforward theme of his lover s simplicity can be developed
in the three quatrains and neatly concluded in the final couplet. He uses this counter intuitive
method of describing his lover to call out the clichГ© of typical grandiose love lyrics and to further
develop the claim that the love he has for this woman is unique. Rather than being seduced with
perfect femininity, he is deeply in love with someone who does not emulate these qualities.

Plagued with addiction, health issues, emotional distress, and a rough upbringing, Tennessee
Williams was able to put these ailments to the side and carry a career as an accomplished
author, poet, and playwright ( Biography 1 2). In Tennessee s novella The Glass Menagerie, a
story of a family s struggles taking place in St Louis, Missouri, 1937, much of the story s plot and
characters have a strikingly similar reality to that of Tennessee and his own personal life. In
particular, one of the main characters and the story s narrator Tom Wingfield shows a life with
close correlation to that of Tennessee s. It can be concluded that Tennessee Williamsuses his art
and talent for writing as an outlet to express his emotional pain. Williams shows that emotional
pain can be expressed through the process of art by the tension Tom s mother creates, the love
for reading and writing, and the need for adventure. Williams shows that emotional pain can be
expressed through art by showing a connection between Tom and his own mother s inability to
accept their sister s potential and proficiency in life. In the case of Tennessee and his sister,
Tennessee s mother Edwina wasn t truly accepting of his sister Rose and was convinced to have
an operation on Rose s brain to fix what was seen as erratic behavior ( Biography 1). Tennessee

Recognition And Tragedy In Oedipus Rex, By Sophocles
An ancient Greek Philosopher as well as a Scientist named Aristotle was the teacher of Alexander
the Great and a student of Plato. Aristotle defines tragedy as imitations of life consist of action with
a serious lesson to convey and purges emotions into the audience which leads to catharsis of these
emotions. OedipusRex written by Sophoclesis an Athenian tragedywhich practically fulfills the
Aristotelian theory of a tragedy. Oedipus, the King of Thebes is a noble man with great

Firstly reversal is the situation in which the unexpected action occurs which is not following the
law of probability and possibility. Recognition and reversal occurs parallel to each other every
time that is when there is reversal in the ongoing plot, recognition is the realization of the Hero
which expound the previous events and is a resolution to the play. Reversal and recognition
evokes the emotion of fear and pity in the mind of the audience thus, leading to catharsis which
is releases the emotional tension cleansing one s mind. Thus in the Oedipus, the messenger
comes to cheer Oedipus and free him from his alarms about mother, but by revealing who he is,
he produces the opposite effect. The audiences develop the emotions of pity and fear towards
the tragic hero Oedipus as the suspicion of King Laius s murder fall on Oedipus which creates
terror to the time when it is confirmed that Oedipus had done the sin of ignorance/immorality by
murdering ones father and marrying ones mother. Therefore, this reversal of fate in the hero s life
fills the mind of the audience with sympathy and fears that at last during the catastrophe Oedipus
pokes out his eyes which leads to the liberation of emotional tension giving pleasure to the
audience. Deus ex Machina is a literary technique which means god out of a machine. This
technique is not used in between the play, but can be used at the beginning as a report or at the

Technot Trash Is Wrong
Let s face it we all buy and use the latest tech without thinking about the consequences. After all,
when the new iPhone is released, who s going to think about its effect on the environment and

consequences of using technology and advancing it beyond what we can understand. Today, with

hard to meet demands and mass produce technology for both society and businesses, they release

according to the slave who escaped Laius slaughter, he might actually be the killer as Tiresias

himself by having his wife teach Josh how to read, write, and count money.

Guilt In Maus II By Art Spiegelman
In Maus II, Art Spiegelman emphasizes the effect that guilt has on him and his father. This guilt is
the product of Vladek and Art s relationship with the Holocaust as a whole. In Maus II, the
relationship between the past and the present is relatively important. In the very beginning of
chapter one, we see how Art reflects on this idea of guilt in detail. When Art and Francoise are
driving to Catskills, he states that he wishes that he would [have] been in Auschwitz with [his]
parents so [he] could really know what they lived through! where he comments that it is some form
of guilt about having an easier life than they did (Spiegelman II, 14). This form of guilt stems from
never having to live through the Holocaust. Moreover, Art is not

Hot Flat And Crowded Summary
Hot, Flat, and Crowded written by Thomas L. Friedman examines our need to become a sustainable
country in not just the environment, but also in our financial markets. Friedman argues that the
world is getting hot as a result of global warming (8). Our planet s average temperature is rising.
The increase can be attributed to humans and their use of large scale manufacturing that began with
the Industrial Revolution when manual labor was starting to be replaced by machinery (68).
Friedman s next argues that world is getting flat due to the increase in high consuming middle
classes brought on by technological, market and geopolitical events (8; 66). The combination of
several factors including the invention of personal computers and the Internet, changes in
transmission protocols, collapse of Communism, the Berlin Wall, and the Soviet Union led to...

When flat and crowded intersect you get the energy supply and demand problem. David Douglas,
a chief sustainability officer for a corporation used this analogy: if you give 1 billion people a 60
watt incandescent light bulb and they all use their light bulbs four hours a day, that s 10,000 watts
at any given moment. You would still need about twenty new 500 megawatt coal burning plants
just so the next 1 billion people can turn on their lights (68). We also have to keep in mind that
burning coal releases CO2 and other pollutants into the air which then effects global warming. We
have now brought in the concept of hot. Friedman also gives the example of the cities Doha and
Dalian who have rapidly grown sprouting a mini Manhattan leading to much higher energy
consumptions. He called this high consumption an America lifestyle saying that affluenza, the
unsustainable addition to economic growth was spreading all over the world

  • 2. The Rise And Fall Of Troy Maxon The Rise and Fall of Troy Maxon: An Analysis of August Wilson s play Fences In Fences, August Wilson, the playwright, provides a believable and powerful examination of the African American experience in the late 1950 s. It provides an apt portrayal of the mentality of African American men going into the civil rights movement, as well as a well developed account of the friction that occurs between a father and a son, and a husband and wife in the face of conflict. According to Wilson, his play provides Caucasians with a view into an African Americans life to find similarities to their own (Kennedy and Gioia 1883). Not only did Wilson accomplish this, but also provided a representation of interfamily relationships that occurs in many cultures. For instance, Katz maintains that the father son relationship contains ... inherent seeds of conflict (Katz). The relationship between Cory and Troy mirrors the conflict between many young men and their fathers as they attempt to create their identity and independence while the fathers are still attempting to shape their future based on their experiences, creating conflict that transcends differences in race and culture. Similarly, the issue of infidelity in a marriage is another issue that is common in a multitude of cultures (Hartnett), and addressed in this play through Bono s accusations toward Troy, and Troy s subsequent admission to Rose that he had an affair resulting in a child. Wilson puts the most effort into developing ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The world adapts to technology as a normal way of life and without it, people are considered out of this touch or unknown. Society has become too reliant on their smartphones, televisions, and video games that they seem to be delusional about the world around them and tend to go outside less and stay inside more hiding themselves from humanity. Major companies place billboards, street signs, and bench ads to reach out to a fraction of the population that is on the road. • 6. The Emperor Is Wearing No Clothes, By Mark Henkal Mark Henkal is the self described National Polygamy Advocate. In his speech The Emperor is Wearing No Clothes, he argues the case of why Christian polygamy should be accepted. He uses four main points to get his opinion across: grace law hypocrisy, polygamists in the Bible, the meaning of adultery and one flesh, and prohibitions of leaders in the Bible. An individual with little to no Biblical knowledge might find that his argument makes sense. Just listening to the speech, without any critical thinking involved, might even persuade those with slightly more Biblical knowledge. Although outwardly he may seem to make solid arguments, there is much more to the polygamyargument than he brought forth. The first justification for polygamy that he presents is that it was not banned, but was regulated under the law, therefore causing polygamy to be an accepted form of lifestyle. The verses given to support this claim are Exodus 21:10, If he marries another woman, he must not deprive the first one of her food, clothing, and marital rights, and Deuteronomy 21:15, if a man has two wives..., but there are issues with how these verses are being used. The Bible is not addressing the issue of polygamy in these verses. They are being taken out of context and bent to please the will of one man; the former is under the context of servants and the latter is about the rights of the firstborn son. Based on this, I would say that this point invalid and not worth further discussion. The ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

For all minority groups in the United States, politics, the government and its laws, and society as a whole were changing drastically. In response to years of oppression, a collection of concerned groups formed the civil rights movement which rallied African American people together to fight for equal rights, access, and opportunities. Malcolm Xwas one of the most influential civil rights leaders of this era as the loudest voice for the African American community. His leadershipwas effective because of the way he utilized a radical idea to convert and influence his followers. Malcolm X was born on May 19, 1925, in Omaha, Nebraska as one of eight children. He learned very early on the value of his African American history and culture. His father was a Baptist minister and an avid supporter of Pan African activists which attracted death threats and violence from white supremacist groups. That was until Switzerland offered ten year bonds that lenders are paying to hold. While many countries like the United States Federal Reserve are preparing to increase interest rates, the European Central Bankis driving them down. The decreasing interest rates have forced countries like Switzerland to offer negative yields on their bonds in order to keep their currency from increasing too far about their Eurozone (European nation) neighbors. However, this notion challenges the very fundamentals of investing in the bondmarket. Numerous countries throughout the Eurozone and Europe are also seeing their yields turning negative. Whereas, various European countries rates have only slightly fallen below zero, others continue to fall deeper into negative territory. It appears that the time value of money (one of the fundamental cores of investing) seems to count for very little throughout the European bond market. Although Switzerland was the first to sell ten year bonds with negative interest rates several other European countries (both inside and outside the Eurozone) have sold government debt securities with negative yields. However, their implications and biases when slanted either particular way are significant enough to observe. Natural history has been the subject of great debate, scrutiny, and passion amongst many scientists from early on in biologyto present times. Currently mechanism has risen to be the dominant theory in biology, but not without hardship and deep philosophical reasoning supported by empirical evidence. To understand these two philosophies, it s imperative to establish a clear understanding of what each category represents. The mechanistic philosophy purports that life operates as mechanical process governed by the fundamental physical laws provided via the universe. This philosophy goes further in thought that there is not necessarily a designer or ultimate purpose for the execution of life in general. In contrast, vitalist philosophy claims that there is an innate specific quality and function that gives existence its ultimate characteristics. Folks in this line of thought tend to argue further that there is definite design and purpose living entities, implying the existence of a celestial super power or being that interacts making life what it is. Comparing the Openings of the Film Versions of Romeo and Juliet by Franco Zeffirelli and Baz Luhrmann Both openings of Romeo and Juliet by Franco Zeffirelli and Baz Luhrmann show similarities and contrasts. Although both versions are faithful to the text as the words spoken by the voiceover in the Prologue are the same, the methods of presentation are clearly different. Zeffirelli places the film in the 17th century and takes a more traditional approach. By using a white middle aged male for the voiceover, Zeffirelli is just giving the audience exactly what they expect, the first opportunity to see Romeo and Juliet on the screen is when as the film was made in 1968. I think it is also important that the statue is smaller than the skyscrapers as this suggests that the families in this time were so powerful that they were in fact more influential than God. I think that the purpose of the frantic introduction and the short takes represent snapshots taken by a camera and give the impression that there is a lot of action in the film. Zeffirelli, however uses only 2 shots in his opening with slow panning from left to right, this connotes a slow, more tranquil film. Luhrmann ignores the stereotypes of Shakespeare, so therefore he has more freedom to portray the film in a modern way. There is a quiet string quartet playing in Zeffirelli s opening which creates a calm atmosphere. The non diegetic music in Luhrmann s is Cammina Burra , which is a dramatic opera and as the music crescendos, all of the snapshots become faster and have more dramatic images like gun battles and fighting. This makes the audience realise that the music will be connected to what is happening in the film, and the directors could use a diminuendo to build tension during tense moments. This opera connotes the emotions anger, despair and confusion, and because the music climaxes early on, before the audience has time to settle into the film, suggests that the film is going to be action packed and will grab their attention straight away. November 30, 2010 There is a fine line between how much safety a corporation should provide to the consumer regarding its products vs. how much responsibility of safety should fall on the average consumer. Take, for instance, the all too familiar McDonald s coffee episode. Does McDonald s have a responsibility to its customers to ensure the coffee isn t hot enough to scald if spilled upon one s lap? Or should the customer be held responsible for their own safety in regards to common sense judgment? This is what California Space Heaters, Inc. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... A corporation that has been given such estimates from its engineering department has a responsibility to implement a safety device. Electric start is the single most important option that should be incorporated on all models for safety reasons. The profile of users in a shop or garage setting differs greatly from users in a home. Users in a shop or garage are more likely to be mechanically inclined. Additionally, safety features are arguably more important in a home than in a shop or garage. In a home, the heater is typically closer to combustibles, including furniture, curtains, and carpet. Due to these variables, CSH should market an indoor/outdoor heater and an outdoor only heater. The only necessary option on the outdoor heater is the electric start, as previously discussed. A shop or garage user will likely be more mechanically inclined and able to adjust the wick accurately. A thermostat shouldn t be needed because the unit will less likely be near combustibles. Overheating due to flare ups will not be as big of an issue either because of the surroundings, not to mention the user is more likely to notice flare ups because the unit will only be operating when he or she is in the garage or shop, in most cases. A removable tank would also not be necessary since fill up is easier outdoors. On the other hand, the indoor/outdoor heater should have three options incorporated on the base model. The first is the electric start option, as mentioned ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

I begin here to let the reader know I do not intend on conforming to the regular hypothesis in the case of Paul Ludwig Hans Anton von Beneckendorff und von Hindenburg, more commonly known as Paul von Hindenburg. This general hypothesis on his character may paint him as a villain in the eyes of history, however, I will argue here that he was forced into a situation of unfortunate circumstances. His case consists of many political and military ups and downs and he is most famously known for appointing Adolf Hitlerto the position of chancellor and therefore plunging the Nazi party into power. Furthermore, I will also use historical evidence to help prove that his decisions did help to shape modern Germany. Each choice a leader makes has the potential to shape a world for years to come. Throughout history we see time and time again one pivotal choice that had a butterfly effect and created a massive change in the way history occurred. The Tudor dynasty was plagued by poor health, short lives and a shortage of male claimants to the throne. But it was his victory at Bosworth field that brought him the throne, not his descent; his weak hereditary claim gave his accession some semblance of legitimacy. Bosworth helped him consolidate his dynasty for it not only eliminated some of the other principle claimants to the English throne, it was regarded by contemporaries as an expression of divine will, as Henry would tell parliament the true judgement of God in granting him victory over his enemy in the field. In order to further consolidate his claim Henry married Elizabeth of York. He did so partially at the request of Parliament, partly because he could not afford the political price of going back on his pre Bosworth promise and most importantly to prevent anyone with ambitions for the throne from marrying Elizabeth, who had the stronger claim. On the other hand, in sonnet 130, he adopts a more realistic approach to loveas it is experienced by everyday people. In both cases, the poet is able to artfully convey the theme of love in its various forms such that the reader is able to easily recognize and identify with it. There is no use of grandiose metaphor or allusion; he does not compare his love to Venus, there is no evocation to Morpheus, etc. In fact, it is the polar opposite as he states, I grant I never saw another goddess go , essentially making clear that his love is no form of beautiful divinity. The ordinary beauty and humanity of his lover are important to Shakespeare in this sonnet, and he deliberately uses typical love poetry metaphors against themselves. Another example of this reversal is when he says how I have seen roses damasked, red and white, but no such roses see I in her cheeks to emphasize that she does not fit the mold of classic romanticized imagery. The references to love affiliated objects of perfection are indeed present, but they are there to illustrate that his lover is not as beautiful a total rejection of Petrarch form and content. Shakespeare utilizes a new structure, through which the straightforward theme of his lover s simplicity can be developed in the three quatrains and neatly concluded in the final couplet. He uses this counter intuitive method of describing his lover to call out the clichГ© of typical grandiose love lyrics and to further develop the claim that the love he has for this woman is unique. Friedman examines our need to become a sustainable country in not just the environment, but also in our financial markets. Friedman argues that the world is getting hot as a result of global warming (8). Our planet s average temperature is rising. The increase can be attributed to humans and their use of large scale manufacturing that began with the Industrial Revolution when manual labor was starting to be replaced by machinery (68). Friedman s next argues that world is getting flat due to the increase in high consuming middle classes brought on by technological, market and geopolitical events (8; 66). He called this high consumption an America lifestyle saying that affluenza, the unsustainable addition to economic growth was spreading all over the world ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
