Engagement Rings Research Paper
Since prehistoric times we have searched for a way to use unique engagement rings to identify our
chosen mate, and announce our marriage to the world. While engagement rings hold considerably
more sentimental and romantic value in our society, this certainly has not always been the case. In
fact, up until the late 1700 s, engagement rings were used not as a romantic gesture, but as a way for a
man to assert his ownership of his wife.
Throughout history engagement rings have been made from many different materials. From braided
grass rings worn by the wives of cavemen, to rings made of human hair and gemstones worn by 19th
century Victorians, each culture and era throughout history has taken their own approach to this
tradition.

The Psychological Impact of Social Networking Essay
Technology has had a great impact on the way the world communicates. Access to technology has
become an integral part of education, socialization and industry related requirements, and accordingly
Internet usage is evolving and growing rapidly. MySpace, Twitter, Skype, and Facebook are some of
the online connections people use today to stay in contact with friends, coworkers, and family.
Communicating in today s society has become a lot easier with social networking sites allowing us to
communicate with people with a simple click of the mouse. In this paper, I will address the strengths
and limitations of social networking. I will look at the ways that social network can impact the social
world of people and communities, especially those ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As of this morning, 500 million people all around the world are actively using Facebook to stay
connected with their friends and the people around them (Zuckerberg, 2010).
Strength of social networking sites
Social network sites (SNSs) such as such as Friendster, CyWorld, and MySpace allow individuals to
present themselves, articulate their social networks, and establish or maintain connections with others
(Ellison, 2007). These sites could be used for work related situation, romance, connecting with
individuals with shared interest, or creating a connection amongst college students. Facebook enables
its users to present themselves in an online profile, accumulate friends who can post comments on
each other s pages, and view each other s profiles (Ellison, 2007). Individuals can write on the wall of
friends, send private message, comment on posts, as well as chat via instant messaging. Much of the
early research on online communities assumed that individuals using these systems would be
connecting with others outside their pre existing social group or location, liberating them to form
communities around shared interests, as opposed to shared geography (Ellison, 2007). Psychosocial
implications of social networking
The use of SNSs (social network sites) can have both positive and negative effects on the individual;
however, few studies identify the types of people who frequent these Internet sites

The Church Of Liberalism By Ann Coulter

James Holland Michael Martin
Government Politics in the US

Ramblings of the Ill informed
In Godless: The Church of Liberalism, published by Three Rivers Press in 2007, author Ann Coulter
argues that liberalism has become a religion despite liberals rejecting god and religion. On the first
page Coulter writes, Of course liberalism is a religion. It has its own cosmology, its own miracles . . .
its own churches, its own high priests, its own saints, its own total worldview, and its own explanation
of the existence of the universe. In other words, liberalism contains all the attributes of what is
generally known as a religion. Coulter attempts to draw many parallels between liberals and religious
people in the beginning of the book. Coulter then gets into the ideologies that the liberal religion
possesses in the chapters to follow. This includes Coulter s assertion that liberals love violent
criminals, but hate fetuses because all liberals oppose the death penalty and support abortions. Coulter
s overgeneralizations continue when she rants and yells about the liberal media s adoration for
educators and how teachers are the saints for leftists and schools are like churches of socialism. Then
Coulter states that educators are indoctrinating students with false beliefs in evolution and turning
children away from Christianity. Finally, Coulter attempts to disprove evolution a very small amount
understanding of what evolution really is. In Godless: The

Selma Film Analysis
The civil rights events lead by Dr. Martin Luther King in the film Selma share the same goal that
Medgar Ever had when he died. One may ask what civil rights are; well civil rights are the rights of
citizens to political and social freedom and equality. The civil rights most would say are the most
important rights to have as an individual; the individuals of America that are a different race other than
white, prior to 1965, had restricted rights, such as not being able to vote. I for one stand with civil
rights that all no matter what race one is all should have equal rights, and the only way for all to have
equal rights is for people of other race have the right to vote and the ability to give other races
equality. In the film Selma Reverend ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

William Bennett Drug Policy And The Intellectuals Summary
In his essay, Drug Policy and the Intellectuals , William Bennett dissects the intellectuals role in the
National Drug Policy and explains that they are too uninterested and too lazy when it comes to this
debate. Bennett understands that the drug policy is a complex problem, and forcefully suggests that it
must be broken down carefully in order to find a conclusion that best fits our nation as a whole.
Bennett s major claims are that legalization will be wholly ineffective and detrimental, our society has
multiple drug related problems that urgently need solutions, and finally he offers what he believes to
be the most viable and effective solutions to the problem at hand. Bennett explains that the drug
problem is not one that can be easily solved, therefore the simple act of legalizing drugs would prove
to being effective and the solution requires more analysis. He goes one to explain that the intellectuals

time sabotaging our mind and body. He then discredits the intellectuals and affirms that the real
experts on the subject are those who have witnessed it firsthand, such as: teachers, cops, parents, (and)
kids (550). He exclaims that these people are facing living with the consequences of drugs everyday
and witnessing the horrid effects of drugs, while concurrently battling against drug use. The
intellectuals fail to comprehend the complete effects of drugs on these people and their lives, Bennett

What Is The Cautionary Tale Of The Three Brothers
As for many years, J.K. Rowling takes the world by storm with her Harry Potter series from the year
1998 2017. As a reader, you have known if you have read the Harry Potter series, in the second to last
novel of the series Deathly Hallows Part 1 . It displays a brief and cautionary tale known as The Tale
of Three Brothers . As there are many fans that retell this famous short story that can be found on
YouTube, however, I had chosen this film adaptation The Tale of the Three Brothers OFFICIAL
ADAPTATION Newscom HD published by Felicity Giles and link it to the Harry Potter series. This
tale had played a major role in the Harry Potter series including Deathly Hallows Part 1 where this tale
was first mentioned. Since it had a connection to the famous artifacts known as the Deathly Hallows ,
which has a symbol of a triangle that has a circle and a vertical line within the shape, which will be

Japanese Gardens And The Garden
Japanese Gardens are a garden style that originated in Japan with design elements that are in line with
the Buddhist belief. Buddhist teaching is symbolized in the different elements that make up the garden
as a whole. Buddhism belief is used in the inspiration of various elements through the use of water,
stone, and architectural pieces. The Japanese Garden that used to break down the broad scope of all
the different elements is a Japanese Garden. I chose to use this Japanese Garden as my primary garden
since I have visited multiple times at the Dubuque Arboretum and Botanical Garden here in town. In
this garden, all the key elements of the water, stone, and architectural features can be seen. In Japanese
Gardens, water is one of the basic elements in the water surface of the garden. This is the basis over
which the whole garden consists. It symbolizes the continuous flow of time and life change elements
in the garden (5 Japanese Garden Elements). There are several different ways to include the elements
of water in a Japanese garden: the use of a pond, water basin, and waterfall. A pond in these gardens is
usually irregularly shaped to reflect how a natural pool would look the mountains (Harte). The pond
within the garden symbolize vitality and how water is pure (Shinn). A tsukubai or a water basin (as
seen in figure 2), is a special dish with bamboo shoots, which is can be used by visitor to stop and
bend over to wash their hands and mouth. The symbolism behind a

Camille Paglia s Rape and the Modern Sex War Essay
Camille Paglia s Rape and the Modern Sex War
Camille Paglia writes the article, Rape and the Modern Sex War, which is about young women being
vulnerable in today s society against rape and how feminism has mistakenly led women to believe that
they aren t in any danger. Paglia states her opinion to women because she believes that women are
vulnerable and should be aware of the pervasiveness of rape (83) all the time. Rape has been around
for hundreds of years and the effects it has on women are life long terrifying memories. Paglia speaks
to women saying that they should be ready for these situations and not be with a group of guys alone,
always be with other girlfriends, and learn to take feminism out of the picture and realize ... Show

Running to a certain authority is not the definition of a strong woman, says Paglia referring to her
Italian philosophy that existence brings about confrontation (84). She wants women to stand up for
themselves and when a man makes a rude remark about a women s sexuality they should deal with it
then and there. Paglia uses an example from the movie Where the Boys Are when talking about
feminism because the movie takes place in 1960 and is about women anticipating and defending
themselves against horny men. It s victim is lured into a room full of guys not seeing what is about to
happen and says that actions are often not perceived correctly and this is where the different
sexualities are noticed (84). This point can be argued because the media blows things out of
proportion and this evidence isn t really evidence because it 3 lacks reality and is an opinion of Paglia
s. Paglia s final assumption in her essay is geared toward both sexes and how we must prevent rape as
a society. Men and women must come to certain identities, which are somewhat similar but are easily
distinguished according to Paglia in my point of view. When a man has sex with a girl it is said that he
is entering manhood. When a woman menstruates she is becoming a real woman and she wants
women to know

The Impact Of Ethics On The Enron Corporation Essay
Ethics is something that is very important to have especially in the business world. Ethics is the
unwritten laws or rules defined by human nature; ethics is something people encounter as a child
learning the differences between right and wrong. In 2001, Enron was the fifth largest company on the
Fortune 500. Enron was also the market leader in energy production, distribution, and trading.
However, Enron s unethical accounting practices have left the company in joint chapter 11 bankruptcy.
This bankruptcy has caused many problems among many individuals. Enron s employees and retirees

Those same 25 executives announcing the layoffs had just one week earlier paid themselves retention
bonuses of $55 million (Diekmann, 2005). These employees did not show or use ethical business

involved with the accounting scandals.
Wall Street Wall Street can have a heavy influence on a company such as Enron s ethical standings.
During the Enron debacle, Wall Street played a key role in the decision making process for the
leadership team of Enron. Wall Street roles in determining Enron s overall value as the company
influenced Enron to push the boundaries of ethical standards. During the trial of Enron s executive s
former Internet division chief of Enron Ken Rice testified: That he and his co conspirators chose to lie
about their network s capabilities to gain credibility on Wall Street and boost Enron s stock value.
(Flood, 2005) Enron s decision to inflate their values to Wall Street did exactly what the company
executives wanted and the company s stock value skyrocketed. Wall Street obediently obliged,
inflating Enron s share value by as much as 75% from the time the company started bragging about its
prospects. (Lashinsky, 2001) When Enron s bubble finally burst and

Dbq Missouri Compromise
At first, the Compromise seemed to settle the issue; however, the alarming issue arose again when
Mexico ceded new territory to the Union. Differences between the views of the North and South led to
a deeper divide that eventually led to the Civil War. The Missouri controversy, an extremely heated
crisis between the North and South over slavery in the Louisiana territory, reached to new heights
almost as great as the time of secession in 1860. This huge debate showed just how slavery divided the
nation (Forbes). Many people knew the consequences of banning slavery, so they kept the Missouri
Compromise in place. Politicians dealt with the troubling issue carefully because it potentially could
separate the Union, and everyone knew the South would ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Tensions about what congress would do about slavery in the new territories increased rapidly. Lincoln,
during his presidency, explains the difference between anti and pro slavery people. He explains that
the selfish nature of man allows him to go towards slavery, but man s nature to be just and right allows
him to oppose slavery (Lincoln). Wilmot tried to pass a law called the Wilmot proviso, a law
forbidding slavery in the new territories ceded by Mexico. A wild debate over this law ensued between
the North and South (Remini). One congressman said that the House sounded like a bomb went off
because of all of the excitement in the room at the same time (Remini). Aggravated politicians got him
out of the House of Representatives for his radical law. Problems increased when California and New
Mexico wanted to enter the union, but California chose to enter the Union alone due to its increased
population. Henry Clay decided to step in and work his magic. Then he created the Compromise of
1850, which allowed the state to choose whether they will enter as a slave or free state, an idea known
as popular sovereignty (Remini). California entered as a free state, but the other territories from the
Mexican cession were allowed to choose. This new Compromise worked for the Mexican cession
territory, but the Louisiana territory still remained under the control of the Missouri Compromise.
After the repeal of the Missouri Compromise, violence between the North and the South ensued. In
1854, Congress passed the Kansas Nebraska Act of 1854, which repealed the Missouri Compromise
(McGill). This Act established popular sovereignty for all of the territories that want to achieve
statehood. Nebraska would enter as a free state. Kansas still wavered back and forth, on whether it
should enter as a slave or free state. Settlers from both the North and South came to live in Kansas.

Summary Of The Causation Of Vietnam War
A Summary of the Causation of the Vietnam War
Traditionally war serves as an instrument for peace with a defined winner and loser. This was not the
case in the Vietnam War. As the longest war in U.S history, it spanned nearly 20 years encompassing 5
different presidential terms. The war in Vietnam served as a limited proxy war between the United
States and Soviet Union fought to combat the spread of communism, to preserve a democratic state in
Southeast Asia, and to limit the power of the Soviet Union. Due to the complexity of the Vietnam war
itself one cannot categorize the war in terms of winning or losing , rather one must look at the
political, ideological, and historical causations of the war

My Thoughts On My Life
Ok so I needed a little help to focus my thoughts so I used google and found a blog that was very
helpful. The writer Kat Lee said, one of my greatest fears in life is that I will be the same person at 76
that I am at 36; that I will have the same hangups as an older woman that I had as a younger woman. I
think that is my same fear. When I moved to Oklahoma I wanted to reinvent myself, I didn t want to
be the same girl with the same hangups both in life and spiritually. I thought new place fresh start.
As you already know it takes a lot for me to reach out and put myself on full display. I have a
difficulty opening up and putting my feelings/thoughts into words. From the short while I ve known
you I feel like you are a person I can break down those walls and be truly honest without the fear of
judgement.
I have so many questions to ask you about your life. You are not much older than me but you have
lived life. You married a wonderful man at a young age and you have a sweet little boy. You are on fire
for the Lord and it shows through your actions. So maybe you can help me clear some of my obstacles
that are in my life by learning from you who might have already cleared or gone through those
obstacle in your life.
I can be a very critical toward myself and get overwhelmed by the things I need to change or improve
on and end up doing nothing to change. I want to be the best person I can be. I go to my mom but she

Coal Is A Nonrenewable Fossil Fuel
It is clear that our country is approaching turmoil as the population continues to grow and our
dependence on electrical power increases. With limited economic resources at our disposal, we must
ensure that future power plants run on the same primary fuel. With that said, I hope you carefully
consider my recommendations, as they are essential in maintaining the current and future state of our
country. Although using coal as our primary energy resource has minor sociopolitical and scientific
complications, the strategies to address these problems and the social, political, scientific, and
economic advantages greatly outweigh the setbacks. While coal is a nonrenewable fossil fuel, it will
still provide our country enough energy to last over 20 years. Coal deposits in our country are
plentiful, making it a more readily available resource than natural gas or nuclear energy. Since we will
eventually extract the coal, it is logical to use it now to fuel our expanding economy. More
importantly, the method for extraction, mountaintop removal mining, is a generally safe approach that
presents nominal risks for workers. As a result, choosing coal as our country s primary fuel resource
will diminish sociopolitical backlash. In addition, coal proves to be extremely economically viable due
to its high yield factor, allowing it to produce high amounts of energy with minimal effort for
extraction. By using coal, we are saving the time and money needed to educate and teach citizens the

Anti Semitism As A Conflict Of Religious Identity And...
For many centuries the Jewish people were scowled upon in their society and have been physically
and mentally tormented. Anti Semitism was been around for many generations, and it ranges from a
conflict of religious identity and national identity. The holocaust took place 70 years ago and people
claim that it was the stem of Anti Semitism, but Anti Semitism goes as far back as the fourth century,
and ultimately helped pave the path for the Holocaust. Medieval Anti Semitism took place during the
time where the Jews lived under the dominant religion of Christianity under the Roman Empire in
Europe. The Jews during this period suffered from the crusade, blood libels, and hatred from the
Christians. This then transitioned into National Anti Semitism, which took place during the
Enlightenment. Many people during this time were almost Patriotic people believed highly in loyalty
to their nation, Jews being the outsiders, who did not share many of the attributes these people had
such as language or history were a targets for this National anti Semitism (modern Anti Semitism).
Thus Christian Anti Semitism transitioned to modern Anti Semitism: the enlightenment, Jew hatred
did not end but rather changed from religious prejudice, god and law, to peoplehood/national aspect,
unity of a nation (Why The Jews? Secular Antisemitism: The Enlightenment).
There was a period where many of the Christians fundamental beliefs were similar to Judaism, such as
monotheism (Why the Jews?

Artificial Intelligence At a time when computer technology is advancing at a rapid pace and when
software developers are convincingly hawking their products as having artificial intelligence, the
inevitable question has begun to take on a certain urgency: Can a computer think? Really think? In
one form or another this is actually a very old question, dating back to such philosophers as Plato,

us to suppose that he is sitting inside the computer. In other words, he is in a small room in which he

Furthermore, his lack of understanding goes to show, he argues, that computers do not understand

Searle himself does not understand Chinese in the thought experiment, it is perfectly correct to say
that Searle plus look up table understand Chinese. In other words, the entire computer would

could hurt their souls and their way of life. Some of them, at least, concluded that the materialism of
the dominant Roman way of life was a non agressive, but equally corrosive force that would destroy

This assertion has always involved universally several profoundly felt assumptions. 1. That humans,
unlike all other creatures, are called upon to develop, to become better than they are. 2. That to be
most fully human requires individual choice and development by cooperative action with identifiable
but demanding conditions. 3. That these conditions are truly universal, applicable and available to all
people and in that sense absolute both in practice and in idea. In The Bhagavad Gita, for example, the
poet says that whenever he reads the words of Krishna to Arjuna he enters into the Gita s predicament
and experiences a change of soul. Similarly the Christian Gospels invite the hearers of the Word to

beyond us and divinely interested in us as we succeed or fail at living up to our expectations. 5. That
in stories, poems, myths, or codes, the elements of what it means to be human, as well as the passages

milk is a natural source of supply for the baby while producing enzymatic, immunologic, and
hormonal elements to the baby (Kennaugh Lockhart Borman, 2011). During the early 20th century
nearly all babies where fed either with maternal breast milk or donated breast milk. (THE HISTORY
OF MILK BANKING, 2016, p. 1) As time progressed on supplement feeding through the use of
artificial milk became more popular then breast milk. Through history mothers have taken a huge
interest in utilizing supplements of donor breast milk to feed their babies nutritious breast milk. When
maternal milk is inadequate or lacking particularly for high risk or premature infants pasteurized
donor milk is the next best option. Donor milk banking plays an important role in meeting these
recommendations . (THE HISTORY OF MILK BANKING, 2016, p. 1)
Some history of how breast milk came about goes all the way back to a practice called wet nursing. It
is a practice when children were either breastfed by their mothers or breast fed by friends, relatives or
strangers. (THE HISTORY OF MILK BANKING, 2016, p. 1)
In the 13th century, European women made more money working as wet nurses than any other
occupation open to women. By early in the twentieth century, awareness of the possibility of disease
transmission, difficulty finding wet nurse s particularly in North America and an increasing number

The Danse dei Chivau Frus appears in the final movement of Suite No.2. The melody taken from
Danse dei Chivau Frus is described as theme B. The theme B begins on bar 21 in D major until bar

ppp. Flute and clarinet play theme B in unison with the string accompaniment emphasizing the down
beat, making the strong feeling of two on bar 20 to bar 84. Strings are now added to the melody and
brass enters by playing bass in tremolo. Variations of instrumentations can be seen from here.
Tambourin keeps the eighth note whenever theme B is used. For example on bar 17, it emphasizes the
first beat by putting an accent theret, which also makes the strong feeling of two. String instruments

Technology Is Brain Washing Our Kids !
Technology is Brain Washing Our Kids! Imagine being a kid in the 1980 s. Kids back in those days
would run around outside all day, using their imagination to create imaginary worlds to travel to
imaginary places that made way for creative ideas and inventions as they grew older. One of those
inventions turned out to be the tablet, the iPhone, or the netbook. Basically anything that made
everything easier. Everything is now easier. One can simply look up an article and read it on their
computer or phone, or research the latest fashion trends without having to keep updated on the latest
magazine. Easier is okay. Let s make things easier, but it s when the easier starts finding its way into
school systems. Easy technology usage becomes a problem when it creeps into our school, when the
unreliable, and brainwashing abilities of technology creep into the minds of the young to hurt their
ability to actually truly learn and experience life for what it should be. Computers have made writing
papers easier, emails have made communicating with teachers more efficient, and the Internet has
made access to information become extraordinarily easy to come by. However, in this picture, a fourth
grade teacher is asking her students to complete an assignment with their technology. Obviously, this
assignment is supposed to be a warm up, something at the beginning of the year to help the kids back
into the swing of school. While they should be picking up a pencil and thinking of how to write

Evaluation Of A Performance Assessment
Evaluation of a Performance Assessment: edTPA James (Monty) Burger Texas A M University
Evaluation of a Performance Assessment: edTPA Teacher effectiveness is of the utmost importance to
ensure student success. However a valid and reliable performance assessment to evaluate teacher
effectiveness has historically remained elusive. Recognizing this need, Stanford University developed
the edTPA (formerly Teacher Performance Assessment) to specifically measure teacher
readiness/effectiveness. The edTPA began field testing in 2009, and has been administered
operationally since 2013. The focus of the edTPA is to assess an authentic cycle of teaching which is
comprised of three tasks. These tasks include ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
According to the 2014 edTPAAdministrative Report some random sampling was done for scorer
reliability with very positive results. Out of 1,808 portfolios (which were double scored
independently) the scorers assigned either the same or adjacent scores with total agreement in nearly
all cases (93.3%). While that speaks well for the scorer reliability, as far as appropriate sampling for
validation and norming the edTPA appears to fall short. There are several mentions of small sample
sizes and differences in group sizes preventing any strong generalizations or conclusions. Some
sample sizes are as large as several thousand while others fewer than 10, creating the opportunity for
instability. Reliability The next condition that should be closely reviewed when evaluating a
performance assessment is reliability (Rudner, 1994). As discussed above the inter rater reliability for
the edTPA seems to be very reliable. Ten percent of portfolios are randomly double scored to examine
scorer rates, and the results provide evidence of high total agreement. According to the 2014 edTPA
Administrative Report the overall reliability coefficient across all fields was 0.923, indicating a high
level of consistency across the rubrics, establishing that the rubrics as a group are successfully
measuring a common construct of teacher readiness. There was some concern with reliability

The Literature On Equality Dated Back Long Ago
The literature on equality dated back long ago and was more of a statistical issue prior to Rawls
philosophical contribution. The Rawlsian philosophy was based on providing justice beyond
maximizing the civil liberties. His idea difference principle was to make people equal by having a set
of institutions that allocate the worst off individuals the maximum level of primary goods . He viewed,
in this regard, primary goods as the goods necessary for the success of any life plan and hence
ensuring an equal primary good bundles is a way of making a person responsible for his life plan
choice. The other philosophers like Jensen (1969) and Herrenstein (1971) deduced in their papers that
the existence of inequality is due to differential intelligence of the individuals and hence rendering the
society an equal income distribution is merely an imagination. Their views were contradicted by the
other thinkers like Bowles (1973) and Colinsk (1974) who thought of the inequality as an outcome of
unequal opportunity. However, it was Dworkin (1981), Arneson (1989) or Cohen (1989) who
introduced the personal responsibility into the literature on equality. Dworkin (1981 a,b) argued about
how lack of internal resources can be overcome by external wealth distribution and introduced
responsibility into achieving the equality in the society. Unlike Rawls, Dworkin emphasized on
preferences instead of primary goods and showed that preferences of individuals matter into the
welfare

My Life Of Juana
Juana was forced to leave Mexico by her parents because they wanted a superior life for her which left
her heartbroken. Many migrate to the U.S for a better life, but for Juana, this was her biggest fear. She
loved the country she was born in, and the city that build her. However, she realized how amazing it is
to face a new world and the mysteries you can discover. She was living in a world filled with joy,
laughter, and peace. Her childhood was her favorite memorable moment in Mexico. I remember
during the summer; the flowers would bloom and together with my friends would create a different
design with each flower we found. said Juana. The smell of tortillas was her favorite smell of the
entire world, so every time she smelled a tortilla she felt right at home. She lived in a ranch close to a
city called Dolores Hidalgo. The ranch that Juana was from were a lot of trees covered in dust, and
there was a stream where they would wash their clothes and they would take showers. The ranch was
about 4 acres, she lived with 2 older brothers. The house they lived in was a simple house made of
adobe. Dolores Hidalgo was the nearest city to their home. The city that s filled with beautiful trees
and music. Juana would of never imagine of leaving her best loved city.
Juana s parents didn t want her to have a rough life even if she felt like she was in the right place to
live. At the age of 21 Juana was told she was going to face a new life and she immediately poured
tears. The immigration security guard glared at Juana and asked, Why are you coming to the Unites
States? Juana looked at him with innocence and spoke, My parents are going to visit some family
members. The guard looked at her parents and said, Okay, let me see your visas in a vociferous voice.
Juana stared at the guard and her heartbeat began to increase, not from running but from the
anxiousness. The guard looked at Juana in the eyes and spoke with confidence, I m so sorry but you
and your parents can t leave the country , Juana immediately grinned. Juana s parents were told they
needed more documents, so Juana was still at risk on leaving her country. She ran and told everyone
the news, Juana was happier than ever. 2 Years went by and

My Core Philosophy And It s Ongoing Development

development. I will evidence my way of working in context to counselling theory, relating this to the
course s guidelines. Giving reflections on personal, intrinsic values and beliefs, their application in
practice within a placement setting.
There are many emerging influences that shape both my professional and personal development as a
practitioner. Accessing a vast array of life experiences, contributes richly to the evolution of my
individual approach. Aptly noted as Counsellors and therapists are influenced by their own experience
or story as they develop or adopt their theoretical stance (Milner and Palmer, 2001, P. 17)). Ongoing
instruction at college and engagement with fellow students continue to prompt further learning,
allowing for openness and shared knowledge. This facilitates an atmosphere of mutual exchange
which often flows spontaneously. In addition personal research undertaken around theoretical subject
matter expands and enhances understanding. Attending training and workshops in Transactional
Analysis, Emotion Focused Therapy, Neurobiology of Anxiety and Trauma and Seren work with the
survivors of sexual abuse, have promoted exploration, development and growth. Discovering
scientific aspects of neurobiology and its positive affects, affirm the effectiveness of the therapeutic

The Amygdala Neural Study
The interpretation of stress is believed to occur in the cerebral cortex of the brain based upon sensory
and other input (such as from chemo receptors). The two categories of stress act through somewhat
different neurological mechanisms, but the general features are similar. Cognitive processes are
involved in the assessment of the input for both categories as to whether the input represents a
potential threat in a routine manner. The amygdala appears to have a central role in the stress response
[46, 47]. Amygdala neurons release corticotropin releasing hormone (CRH) which has two major
effects: it causes the brain stem (including the rostral ventrolateral medulla) to stimulate the
sympathetic nervous system (SNS) through spinal nerves, and ... Show more content on

How Does Shakespeare Present The Theme Of Isolation
heme of Isolation through their use of form, structure and language and show how The Outsider has
illuminated this.
Julian Barnes postmodern, Booker prize award winning novel The Sense of an Ending (2011),
William Shakespeare s Sonnets (1609) and Albert Camus The Outsider(1942) all present the central
theme of the isolation that, given circumstance, any individual can be subjected to. Barnes presents
this theme of isolation through the retrospective voice of Barnes first person narrator Tony Webster,
who by the conclusion of the novel has managed to agitate and isolate himself from those who he once
knew well. Similarly, Shakespeare s sonnet series demonstrates a gripping narrative of a love triangle;

When she ends up ends up copulating with Tony soon after their breakup, she may have meant for it to
be one last attempt to express her love for Tony, but Tony interpreted this action as some form of
manipulation from Veronica. The ambiguousness of the pronoun it connotes that there could be more
that there be more for Barnes creation, Tony Webster, to get than the concluding part of the novel.
Perhaps Tony fails to comprehend the increased social status of women in 2011. It could be argued
that Tony has become accustomed to the idea of the 1960s woman, which is suggested by his brief
affair with Annie which reflects the sexual revolution of the 1960s in which women were seen as
sexual objects rather than the independent gender which they are today. The dwelling of his past, of
the 60s, has led to the deterioration of his relationships with the other women in the novel as in 2011
women have gained much more independence since the 1960s. Margaret, the woman who Tony
married, stood by his side at first but abruptly left him on his own now after she noted his obsession
for Adrian. This could explain why the latter part of the novel focuses on the aftermath of Adrian s
suicide, an event which occurred when Tony was in his 20s as Tony s obsession

Aside from the beautiful architecture of the temples and palaces surrounding the Forbidden City, and
the sheer magnitude of a holy space dedicated to the emperor, I think the most impressive aspect of
the Forbidden City is the simple fact that such drastic measures were taken to improve the image and
reputation of Yong Le. It is by no means uncommon for leaders to make considerable changes in
themselves, in policy, or in staffing to make a statement, but it seems Yong Le was particularly
concerned with his credibility. He left no stone unturned in ensuring that his people would respect him
as a powerful ruler. As if moving the capitol back to Beijing wasn t enough to convince them, he

Behind The Great Emancipator Analysis
Behind the great emancipator s created public persona lies the real Abraham Lincoln, a man who not
only used his political standing on slavery to get into presidency by consistently changing his opinion
on them, but actually had an ulterior motive to free the slaves with a questionable document, the
emancipation proclamation. While some historians like Eric Foner in The Fiery Trial: Abraham
Lincoln and American Slavery and Richard Striner s Father Abraham: Lincoln s Relentless Struggle
To End Slavery would agree that this change can be described as growth, others like James Oakes
essay Freedom National: The Destruction of Slavery in the United States, 1861 1865 would say that it
was all part of his initial plan to free the slaves. James M. McPherson would complement Lincoln on

McPherson s review of Cox s book, he mentions Vincent Harding who makes the point that Lincoln
did not free the slaves, they freed themselves by escaping from their master to Union lines. Gates,

The Capote Character Analysis
Although Capote appears to be providing information and accounts on the town after the murders, his
true purpose is to illuminate the corruption permeating Holcomb; thus asserting that all places that are
innocent and serene are not immune from wicked influence. Capote, as though taking his own finger
and running it down the reader s spine, creates an eerie and shiver inducing air around Holcomb using
juxtaposition. The Clutter s new appearances, posthumously formed, are described: Nancy wore her
dress of cherry red velvet, her brother a bright plaid shirt; the parents were more sedately attired... and
and it was this, especially, that lent the scene an awful aura the head of each was completely encased
in cotton, a swollen cocoon twice the size or an ordinary blown up balloon, and the cotton, because it
had been sprayed with a glossy substance, twinkled like Christmas tree snow (Capote 95). A jarring
and nauseous feeling accompanies this excerpt, as the town s most revered inhabitants are degraded
down to faceless shells, inert, Q tip shaped reminders of loss and evil. The innocence of Bonnie, the
dependability of Herb, and the intelligence of Nancy and Kenyon have been negatively replaced, and
therefore the true identities of the Clutters are forever lost. As the Clutters were the viewed as the most
upstanding citizens of Holcomb, the hurt felt by the remainder of the town is not just over the family,
but of the purity that Holcomb will never reattain. What was once the Clutter family, and thus
Holcomb itself, is forever gone, replaced by malicious, shimmering cotton.
Capote further presses the loss of innocence and gain of corruption through symbolism, witnessed
during the time in which men from the community set fire to the blood stained and destroyed Clutter
property. Unfolding in the line, [t]he couch, a relic that Kenyon had rescued and mended and that
Nancy had slip covered and piled with mottowed pillows, was a blood splashed ruin...it would have to
be burned.. [along with] blood soiled bedclothes, mattresses, a bedside rug, a Teddy bear doll (Capote
78). These items, representing the larger whole of the Clutter property, symbolize everything the

with the anthropomorphic mental state, if social disconnection increase belief in some religious agents
or actions, and whether the likelihood of attributing humanlike mental states or traits to pets would be
greater among people induced to feel social disconnection than among people not so induced.
Researchers made three hypotheses, one for each study. The first hypothesis was that loneliness was
significantly correlated with the anthropomorphic mental state ratings, the second hypothesis was that
participants in the disconnected condition reported stronger belief in supernatural agents than
participants in the other two conditions combined. The last hypothesis was that participants in the

Throughout history engagement rings have been made from many different materials. As of this morning, 500 million people all around the world are actively using Facebook to stay connected with their friends and the people around them (Zuckerberg, 2010). Strength of social networking sites Social network sites (SNSs) such as such as Friendster, CyWorld, and MySpace allow individuals to present themselves, articulate their social networks, and establish or maintain connections with others (Ellison, 2007). These sites could be used for work related situation, romance, connecting with individuals with shared interest, or creating a connection amongst college students. Facebook enables its users to present themselves in an online profile, accumulate friends who can post comments on each other s pages, and view each other s profiles (Ellison, 2007). Individuals can write on the wall of friends, send private message, comment on posts, as well as chat via instant messaging. Much of the early research on online communities assumed that individuals using these systems would be connecting with others outside their pre existing social group or location, liberating them to form communities around shared interests, as opposed to shared geography (Ellison, 2007). The Church Of Liberalism By Ann Coulter Brittany Zeock James Holland Michael Martin Government Politics in the US 4/30/15 Ramblings of the Ill informed In Godless: The Church of Liberalism, published by Three Rivers Press in 2007, author Ann Coulter argues that liberalism has become a religion despite liberals rejecting god and religion. On the first page Coulter writes, Of course liberalism is a religion. It has its own cosmology, its own miracles . . . its own churches, its own high priests, its own saints, its own total worldview, and its own explanation of the existence of the universe. In other words, liberalism contains all the attributes of what is generally known as a religion. Coulter attempts to draw many parallels between liberals and religious people in the beginning of the book. Coulter then gets into the ideologies that the liberal religion possesses in the chapters to follow. This includes Coulter s assertion that liberals love violent criminals, but hate fetuses because all liberals oppose the death penalty and support abortions. Coulter s overgeneralizations continue when she rants and yells about the liberal media s adoration for educators and how teachers are the saints for leftists and schools are like churches of socialism. Then Coulter states that educators are indoctrinating students with false beliefs in evolution and turning children away from Christianity. Finally, Coulter attempts to disprove evolution a very small amount understanding of what evolution really is. In Godless: The ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

One may ask what civil rights are; well civil rights are the rights of citizens to political and social freedom and equality. The civil rights most would say are the most important rights to have as an individual; the individuals of America that are a different race other than white, prior to 1965, had restricted rights, such as not being able to vote. I for one stand with civil rights that all no matter what race one is all should have equal rights, and the only way for all to have equal rights is for people of other race have the right to vote and the ability to give other races equality. • 9. Japanese Gardens And The Garden Japanese Gardens are a garden style that originated in Japan with design elements that are in line with the Buddhist belief. Buddhist teaching is symbolized in the different elements that make up the garden as a whole. Buddhism belief is used in the inspiration of various elements through the use of water, stone, and architectural pieces. The Japanese Garden that used to break down the broad scope of all the different elements is a Japanese Garden. I chose to use this Japanese Garden as my primary garden since I have visited multiple times at the Dubuque Arboretum and Botanical Garden here in town. In this garden, all the key elements of the water, stone, and architectural features can be seen. In Japanese Gardens, water is one of the basic elements in the water surface of the garden. This is the basis over which the whole garden consists. It symbolizes the continuous flow of time and life change elements in the garden (5 Japanese Garden Elements). There are several different ways to include the elements of water in a Japanese garden: the use of a pond, water basin, and waterfall. A pond in these gardens is usually irregularly shaped to reflect how a natural pool would look the mountains (Harte). The pond within the garden symbolize vitality and how water is pure (Shinn). Camille Paglia s Rape and the Modern Sex War Essay Camille Paglia s Rape and the Modern Sex War Camille Paglia writes the article, Rape and the Modern Sex War, which is about young women being vulnerable in today s society against rape and how feminism has mistakenly led women to believe that they aren t in any danger. Paglia states her opinion to women because she believes that women are vulnerable and should be aware of the pervasiveness of rape (83) all the time. Rape has been around for hundreds of years and the effects it has on women are life long terrifying memories. Running to a certain authority is not the definition of a strong woman, says Paglia referring to her Italian philosophy that existence brings about confrontation (84). She wants women to stand up for themselves and when a man makes a rude remark about a women s sexuality they should deal with it then and there. Paglia uses an example from the movie Where the Boys Are when talking about feminism because the movie takes place in 1960 and is about women anticipating and defending themselves against horny men. It s victim is lured into a room full of guys not seeing what is about to happen and says that actions are often not perceived correctly and this is where the different sexualities are noticed (84). This point can be argued because the media blows things out of proportion and this evidence isn t really evidence because it 3 lacks reality and is an opinion of Paglia s. Paglia s final assumption in her essay is geared toward both sexes and how we must prevent rape as a society. Men and women must come to certain identities, which are somewhat similar but are easily distinguished according to Paglia in my point of view. Aggravated politicians got him out of the House of Representatives for his radical law. Problems increased when California and New Mexico wanted to enter the union, but California chose to enter the Union alone due to its increased population. Henry Clay decided to step in and work his magic. • 16. Coal Is A Nonrenewable Fossil Fuel It is clear that our country is approaching turmoil as the population continues to grow and our dependence on electrical power increases. With limited economic resources at our disposal, we must ensure that future power plants run on the same primary fuel. With that said, I hope you carefully consider my recommendations, as they are essential in maintaining the current and future state of our country. Although using coal as our primary energy resource has minor sociopolitical and scientific complications, the strategies to address these problems and the social, political, scientific, and economic advantages greatly outweigh the setbacks. While coal is a nonrenewable fossil fuel, it will still provide our country enough energy to last over 20 years. Coal deposits in our country are plentiful, making it a more readily available resource than natural gas or nuclear energy. Since we will eventually extract the coal, it is logical to use it now to fuel our expanding economy. More importantly, the method for extraction, mountaintop removal mining, is a generally safe approach that presents nominal risks for workers. As a result, choosing coal as our country s primary fuel resource will diminish sociopolitical backlash. In addition, coal proves to be extremely economically viable due to its high yield factor, allowing it to produce high amounts of energy with minimal effort for extraction. Anti Semitism was been around for many generations, and it ranges from a conflict of religious identity and national identity. The holocaust took place 70 years ago and people claim that it was the stem of Anti Semitism, but Anti Semitism goes as far back as the fourth century, and ultimately helped pave the path for the Holocaust. Medieval Anti Semitism took place during the time where the Jews lived under the dominant religion of Christianity under the Roman Empire in Europe. The Jews during this period suffered from the crusade, blood libels, and hatred from the Christians. This then transitioned into National Anti Semitism, which took place during the Enlightenment. I will evidence my way of working in context to counselling theory, relating this to the course s guidelines. Giving reflections on personal, intrinsic values and beliefs, their application in practice within a placement setting. There are many emerging influences that shape both my professional and personal development as a practitioner. Accessing a vast array of life experiences, contributes richly to the evolution of my individual approach. Aptly noted as Counsellors and therapists are influenced by their own experience or story as they develop or adopt their theoretical stance (Milner and Palmer, 2001, P. 17)). Ongoing instruction at college and engagement with fellow students continue to prompt further learning, allowing for openness and shared knowledge. This facilitates an atmosphere of mutual exchange which often flows spontaneously. In addition personal research undertaken around theoretical subject matter expands and enhances understanding. Attending training and workshops in Transactional Analysis, Emotion Focused Therapy, Neurobiology of Anxiety and Trauma and Seren work with the survivors of sexual abuse, have promoted exploration, development and growth. Discovering scientific aspects of neurobiology and its positive affects, affirm the effectiveness of the therapeutic engagement in counselling. Details consolidating these findings are described ... It is one of the most crucial concepts in both macroeconomic and microeconomic arenas. What is comes down to is, the price and quantity demanded go hand in hand and the price and quantity supplied are directly related. If anyone is to understand market behavior of individual consumers and the decision making processes of businesses and consumers, then they need to understand how fundamentally important microeconomics is. The Simulation From this week of instruction, the simulation demonstrated how a fictional apartment management company is impacted by several monetary influences. • 30. The Amygdala Neural Study The interpretation of stress is believed to occur in the cerebral cortex of the brain based upon sensory and other input (such as from chemo receptors). The two categories of stress act through somewhat different neurological mechanisms, but the general features are similar. Cognitive processes are involved in the assessment of the input for both categories as to whether the input represents a potential threat in a routine manner. The amygdala appears to have a central role in the stress response [46, 47]. Amygdala neurons release corticotropin releasing hormone (CRH) which has two major effects: it causes the brain stem (including the rostral ventrolateral medulla) to stimulate the sympathetic nervous system (SNS) through spinal nerves, and ... To begin the process of collecting ambulatory blood pressure data, the monitor is first initialized via a computer, using manufactures provided software. After initialization, the monitor should be calibrated to a mercury column or gauge by taking simultaneous auscultatory measurements on the study subject. There are two ways to determine what the specific conditions are during each individual ambulatory blood pressure measurement. The first is through direct observation. Specifically, a person other than the study subject continuously watches and records, either in a journal or electronically, the extant conditions when the monitor goes off. The second method involves having subjects self report the ambient conditions in a diary. Specifically, subjects write down or input in a computer the various parameters that are manifest when the blood pressure cuff inflates, including both personal and environmental ... • 31. How Does Shakespeare Present The Theme Of Isolation heme of Isolation through their use of form, structure and language and show how The Outsider has illuminated this. Julian Barnes postmodern, Booker prize award winning novel The Sense of an Ending (2011), William Shakespeare s Sonnets (1609) and Albert Camus The Outsider(1942) all present the central theme of the isolation that, given circumstance, any individual can be subjected to. Barnes presents this theme of isolation through the retrospective voice of Barnes first person narrator Tony Webster, who by the conclusion of the novel has managed to agitate and isolate himself from those who he once knew well. Similarly, Shakespeare s sonnet series demonstrates a gripping narrative of a love triangle; an intimate tale of the fair youth ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... When she ends up ends up copulating with Tony soon after their breakup, she may have meant for it to be one last attempt to express her love for Tony, but Tony interpreted this action as some form of manipulation from Veronica. The ambiguousness of the pronoun it connotes that there could be more that there be more for Barnes creation, Tony Webster, to get than the concluding part of the novel. Perhaps Tony fails to comprehend the increased social status of women in 2011. It could be argued that Tony has become accustomed to the idea of the 1960s woman, which is suggested by his brief affair with Annie which reflects the sexual revolution of the 1960s in which women were seen as sexual objects rather than the independent gender which they are today. The dwelling of his past, of the 60s, has led to the deterioration of his relationships with the other women in the novel as in 2011 women have gained much more independence since the 1960s. Margaret, the woman who Tony married, stood by his side at first but abruptly left him on his own now after she noted his obsession for Adrian. This could explain why the latter part of the novel focuses on the aftermath of Adrian s suicide, an event which occurred when Tony was in his 20s as Tony s obsession ... Yong Le Forbidden City Aside from the beautiful architecture of the temples and palaces surrounding the Forbidden City, and the sheer magnitude of a holy space dedicated to the emperor, I think the most impressive aspect of the Forbidden City is the simple fact that such drastic measures were taken to improve the image and reputation of Yong Le. It is by no means uncommon for leaders to make considerable changes in themselves, in policy, or in staffing to make a statement, but it seems Yong Le was particularly concerned with his credibility. He left no stone unturned in ensuring that his people would respect him as a powerful ruler. Behind The Great Emancipator Analysis Behind the great emancipator s created public persona lies the real Abraham Lincoln, a man who not only used his political standing on slavery to get into presidency by consistently changing his opinion on them, but actually had an ulterior motive to free the slaves with a questionable document, the emancipation proclamation. While some historians like Eric Foner in The Fiery Trial: Abraham Lincoln and American Slavery and Richard Striner s Father Abraham: Lincoln s Relentless Struggle To End Slavery would agree that this change can be described as growth, others like James Oakes essay Freedom National: The Destruction of Slavery in the United States, 1861 1865 would say that it was all part of his initial plan to free the slaves. The concept of mitigation means that not everyone will be punished in identical fashion for a particular crime. Judges and juries weigh factors such as remorse, medical conditions or the person s past reputation or actions in determining punishment (Scarre 305 307). • 38. The Capote Character Analysis Although Capote appears to be providing information and accounts on the town after the murders, his true purpose is to illuminate the corruption permeating Holcomb; thus asserting that all places that are innocent and serene are not immune from wicked influence. Capote, as though taking his own finger and running it down the reader s spine, creates an eerie and shiver inducing air around Holcomb using juxtaposition. The Clutter s new appearances, posthumously formed, are described: Nancy wore her dress of cherry red velvet, her brother a bright plaid shirt; the parents were more sedately attired... and and it was this, especially, that lent the scene an awful aura the head of each was completely encased in cotton, a swollen cocoon twice the size or an ordinary blown up balloon, and the cotton, because it had been sprayed with a glossy substance, twinkled like Christmas tree snow (Capote 95). A jarring and nauseous feeling accompanies this excerpt, as the town s most revered inhabitants are degraded down to faceless shells, inert, Q tip shaped reminders of loss and evil. The innocence of Bonnie, the dependability of Herb, and the intelligence of Nancy and Kenyon have been negatively replaced, and therefore the true identities of the Clutters are forever lost. As the Clutters were the viewed as the most upstanding citizens of Holcomb, the hurt felt by the remainder of the town is not just over the family, but of the purity that Holcomb will never reattain. What was once the Clutter family, and thus Holcomb itself, is forever gone, replaced by malicious, shimmering cotton. Capote further presses the loss of innocence and gain of corruption through symbolism, witnessed during the time in which men from the community set fire to the blood stained and destroyed Clutter property. Unfolding in the line, [t]he couch, a relic that Kenyon had rescued and mended and that Nancy had slip covered and piled with mottowed pillows, was a blood splashed ruin...it would have to be burned.. Creating Social Connection In the article Creating social connection through inferential reproduction: Loneliness and perceived agency in gadgets, gods, and greyhounds by Epley, Akalis, Waytz Cacioppo the researchers conducted three studies. The purpose of the studies were to examine if loneliness was significantly correlated with the anthropomorphic mental state, if social disconnection increase belief in some religious agents or actions, and whether the likelihood of attributing humanlike mental states or traits to pets would be greater among people induced to feel social disconnection than among people not so induced. Researchers made three hypotheses, one for each study. The first hypothesis was that loneliness was significantly correlated with the anthropomorphic mental state ratings, the second hypothesis was that participants in the disconnected condition reported stronger belief in supernatural agents than participants in the other two conditions combined.
