Service Learning Reflection
According to Kathleen Flecky and Lynn Gitlow, service learning is defined as, learning that occurs in
experiences, reflection, and civic engagement (Flecky Gitlow, 2011). In recent years more universities
are implementing service learning into their curriculum. A key concept of service learning is civic
responsibility. Civic responsibility can simply be defined as your responsibilities as a citizen. As will
be shown later in this paper, service learning can have many benefits not only to a student, but also to
the community members
I personally believe that service learning is a great thing for many reasons. One of the biggest reasons
is that service learning can give you great exposure to having face to face interaction which I think
millennials try to avoid. Another reason that service learning is a great thing is that it can teach some
people about how to be more compassionate as well as helping students understand their civic
responsibilities as young adults. As stated by Flecky Gitlow (2011), a unique aspect of service
learning is that it incorporates structured opportunities for students, faculty and community partners to
reflect on their interactions and activities in light of both educational and community objectives. (p. 1
2). My interpretation of this quote is that the authors view service learning in a positive light. My
understanding is that the authors believe by students reflecting on their interactions with the
community, it can help further their

Van Gogh s Life And Effect Today
Speech: Van Gogh s Life and Effect today.
Specific Purpose Statement: By the end of my speech the audience will be able to list 3 parts of Van
Gogh s life and his achievements that affected the future.
INTRODUCTION:
Attention Getter: Imagine being one of the most well recognized names of the modern world, your
name attracts millions, dozens of films and book are created after you. But at the same time imagine
your life being filled with depression and rejection for the craft that you are beloved for.
Thesis Statement: Although Vincent Van Gogh s work is recognized around the world, his life was full
of depression and rejection from people and the art world, but still he impacted the style of art forever.

He also threw many tantrums and was ill tempered constantly.
Also from this article, it had quotations of what different members of his family had to say about
Vincent. His sister Elizabeth claims that Vincent would walk around clumsily consistently in daze
with his head held low. C. Van Gogh did not immediately get involved with the art world, but rather he
was constantly having to adapt to what his parents expected from him, leading his into distress.
1. According to the Article Vincent Van Gogh by Chris Stolwijk, accessed by the Gale Biography in
Context Database, Van Gogh worked very faintly in a french art print dealer business that was
introduced to him by his uncle, also named Vincent Van Gogh, who was a partner. There he learned to
respect the visual arts.
2. Also from the same text, Vincent lost interest in this business and later went on to study theology
and follows his father s expectations. Sadly, he also failed at this endeavour as well. Not until many
occupations later did his infamous brother Theo Van Gogh suggest that he would become what he is
most known for, an artist.
These rejections foreshadowed the future mindset of Van Gogh, constantly rejected and failing ,
leading to his breakdown.
Internal Summary/Preview: Now that we have learned Van Gogh s bring, early life, and multiple
endeavours, we can go to his main attribute in his life, his paintings. We will see the repercussions and

African Women In Colonial Society By Carol Berkin
Essays should have organized thoughts, an interesting writing style, and most importantly get the
attention of the reader. The essay, African Women in Colonial Society, by Carol Berkin was no
exception. The claims were well thought out and clear, and the essay definitely hooked readers in with
an anecdote that led into the story quite fittingly. She had three noticeable claims that were major that
she talks about in the essay, and that is the struggles of African women, moreso compared to that of a
man s, the silver linings that the women found, and finally the unity of the Africans through common
languages and religion. For one thing, women struggled with obstacles, that men could not even have.
Women took a major role in childbirth, but the malnourished, and overworked women were not in the
best condition to have children. Regardless they had many, and that mean a lot of the women and their
children would die during birth. They had about three children in their lifetime, and only two would
survive. Additionally, the laws back then had no care for the wellbeing of the women. This led to
awful laws that actually benefitted the men who would rape and seduce women. Additionally, all of
the adjusting they had to do after their arrival really took a toll on them. Once they came to America
after their brutal transport through the middle passage, they had to immediately be accustomed to a
new language, climate, food, and culture. Once she was sold to her master, a lot of her

The ideas and principles of the traditional women stem off the idea of the patriarchy, a social system
in which the authority figure and main provider of the household is a man while the woman is a
homebound individual whose main concern is to the family. Both Miranda Priestly and the main
protagonist Andrea Sachs simultaneously face different examples on how society views women as
mothers more than working individuals. In respect to Miranda Priestly, she remains so consumed up
with her work that she has gone through several divorces and suffers from one towards the end of the
film. The main reason for the divorce was the fact that Priestly never took time off and never had
enough time for her husband and children. The local newspapers always

Examples Of Juxtaposition Of The British Soldiers
In the first picture shown, the British soldiers are stoically marching in formation towards the
Americans. The image uses juxtaposition of the British soldiers to show that they are in formation,
and are more disciplined than the rogue American army. The author also uses juxtaposition of the
British soldiers to the dead American soldiers to show that they are able to beat the Americans easily.
In the second picture, the author uses juxtaposition of the terrified Americans to the British to show
that the British are able to force the Americans to retreat. The Americans are shown as weak, while the
British are shown as capable of pushing the American army back. This allows the author to convey the
message that the British army is stronger than

Postcolonial Literature (Persepolis Things Fall Apart)
There are many different critical approaches to studying literature. With reference of both texts you
have studied, show what you believe the value to be in using a particular critical approach.
Things Fall Apart by Chinua Achebe and Persepolis by Marjane Satrapi follow a postcolonial critical
approach. Both books take place in a country considered politically inferior through western
perspective and both texts, even though reinforce colonialists oppressive ideology, don t stand
completely against the colonialists and fault their own culture. They present the themes of dislocation
on how western influences changes, religious, social and economical aspects in the Igbo and the
Iranian society. Things fall Apart presents an ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This statement is one of the most significant to understand the postcolonial view of the novel, by
referencing its title with the imagery of a knife breaking things apart expresses not only the cruel
overpowering intentions of the colonialists but also the vulnerability of the Igbo culture. And lastly, as
the book ends with Okonkwo s suicidal tragic death it represents the futility and inefficiency in over
fighting colonizing forces and the downfall of the protagonist is the final indication of the Igbo culture
falling apart. Similarly, in Persepolis the protagonist Marji, also experiences the frustration of western
overpowering influence on her culture. There are innumerous moments in Marjane s childhood in
which she suffers from prejudgments due to the Iranian stereotypes. For example, when she is
travelling outside the country for the first time she realizes that as soon as they learn our nationality,
they go through everything, as though we were all terrorists. They treat us as though we have the
plague. This simile comparing being Iranian with having a disease victimizes the Iranian people, as it
equates racism to an irrational and condemning repugnance. By sharing a young Iranian naïve girl s
experience, westernized readers are presented with another perception and hopefully are able to
overcome their own preconceptions. However Satrapi also condemns her conservative government by
revealing the hypocrisy of the teachers as they ask the children to tear

Analysis Of Cathedral By Raymond Carver
A New Perspective Everyone at one point has judged a book by its cover. In the short story, Cathedral
, Raymond Carver creates a narrator who bases off ideas and assumptions about blind people from
movies. The narrator has never interacted with a blind person before the day where his wife invites her
friend, who is named Robert, to stay. The narrator and Robert have never met, but the narrator has a
strong dislike towards Robert before meeting. The narrator s closed mindedness and misconceptions
leads him to judge Robert, however after a few hours of interaction, the narrator learns more about
him and grows to have a new perspective about people not being who they think they are. The narrator
is pre judgemental towards all people who are blind, whether or not he has met them. He believes all
blind people are the same as those he has watched in movies. The narrator perception of the blind is
that they moved slowly and never laughed and when they went out they were led by seeing eye dogs
(Carver 104). The movie industry creates a false image of the blind, which leads to the narrator s
assumptions. However, the blind are not all the same, just like how everyone else in the world are not
the same. People are designed to be different in their personalities, thoughts, looks and much more.
The narrator s ideas of Robert are based off of false conceptions and this changes his attitude towards
Robert. The narrator already has strong feelings towards Robert before meeting him

The Simple Soul In The Phaedo And The Republic
Within this essay, I am going to argue that the simple soul is a more plausible conception than the idea
of multiplicity within the soul within Plato s work. This is due to the multiplicity of the soul resting on
a circular argument of Plato s ideal city which in turn rests back upon his idea of the tripartite soul.
However, it can also be argued that neither conceptions of the soul are plausible due to them both
relying on Plato s theory of the Forms. Throughout Plato s works of the Phaedo and the Republic, his
account for the soul is conflicting as Plato s two accounts cannot be reconciled. I will also refer to
Plato s work in the Phaedrus to aid my explanation of the multiplicity within the soul.
Simplicity of the soul
Plato s theory of the simplicity of the soul is seen in the Phaedo. Through the mouthpiece of Socrates,
Plato argues for a simple soul which only has one true aim. He states that the soul only seeks truth and
that all other senses and experiences are merely distractions through the soul being embodied the soul
reasons best when none of these senses troubles it, neither hearing nor sight, nor pain nor pleasure, but
when it is most by itself, taking leave of the body and as far as possible having no contact or
association with it in its search for reality. (Plato, 1997, §65c). The simple soul can only aim to grasp
the truth of reality which it gets closer to as man becomes closer to death. This is why, in Plato s
opinion, a philosopher in particular can

Application Of An Artificial Neural Network Essay
We have the previous workload information so we trained that workload information. First we
normalize the value of the workload information by using the formula Where, M = is the maximum
value along the particular column, X= is the maximum value along the particular column, Q= is the
original value. Q =is the normalized value. After Normalized the value we design an artificial neural
network. 3.1 Artificial neural network In this structure of ANN we use the one input layer, one or
more hidden layer, and one output layer. That structure we call MLP (multiple layer perceptron). On
the input layer we use input layer 5 neurons. On the first hidden layer we are using the 5 neurons. And
on the second hidden layer we use the 10 neurons. On the output layer we use the one neurons that
predict the future load.NOW we train the workload information by using the Artificial neural network
i.e. MLP structure. To Train the workload information aim is to find the set of weight values that will
cause the output from the ANN to match to the target values as closely as possible. There several
issues are arising when we train the neural network. First is selecting the number of hidden layer and
neurons how much are used on the hidden layer. Second is to avoid the local minima and finding the
globally optimal solution. To training the work load information first we need to divide the workload
information. How much workload information is used to train? How much workload information for

Sarah Penn Essay
Q2) Characterize Sarah Peen based upon how she is described. What adjectives would you use to
describe her? What activities help to reveal her role as a nineteenth century woman? Sarah Penn plays
the role of a classic mother and wife during the nineteenth century. Sarah was a small woman, short
and straight waisted like a child in her brown cotton gown. Her forehead was mild and benevolent
between the smooth curves of gray hair; there were meek downward lines about her nose and mouth;
but her eyes, fixed upon the old man, looked as if fthe meekness has been the result of her own will,
never of the will of another (Freeman 308). She defends her husband, when Nanny questions the
building of a new barn instead of a new house. Sarah was a good wife; she made all the meals father
liked, and did the cleaning. Even though she was promised a new house forty years ago, she finally
said to father, I ain t complained; I ve got along forty years, an suppose I should forty more, if it wasn
t for that (Freeman 314). This the turning point for her character; the start of her revolt. I would

that the men, or husbands, are blind to the family tension and they do not truly listen to their wives

Relationship Between Cellular Respiration And Photosynthesis
Cellular respiration and photosynthesis are the primary actions that organisms go through in order to
retrieve efficiency through nature. Photosynthesis is primarily done by plants and cellular respiration
is done by animals in order to gain the energy they require. Photosynthesis is the process through
which plant cells convert energy from the sun into chemical vitality. The chemical process of
photosynthesis involves carbon dioxide, water, and sunlight which are then turned to glucose and
oxygen. Cellular respiration consists of the separation of food molecules that results in energy which
is then reserved as adenosine triphosphate molecules. After sugar molecules are formed by
photosynthesis, the plants go through cellular respiration in order to form ATP molecules. Animals

The first stage is glycolysis, the second stage is the linking reaction, the third stage is the Krebs cycle,
and the final stage is electron transport. During the glycolysis stage glucose is disintegrated, this
happens in the cytoplasm of the cell. Once the glucose is broken down two identical compounds are
created. Two electrons and a hydrogen ion are removed then attached to adenine forming NADH.
Water is then formed using an oxygen and two hydrogen atoms. In this stage two ATP molecules are
added. The linking reaction occurs in the mitochondria of the cell. NAD+ and pyruvate come together
to form NADH and an acetyl enzyme. The Krebs cycle involves removing hydrogen atoms from the
acetyl coenzyme in order to form four molecules of ATP. Carbon then combines with oxygen, creating
carbon dioxide. Electrons are unconstrained and move towards the electron transport chain because of
NADH. These electrons go through the electron chain until it finds an oxygen atom, where water is
formed then released. ATP molecules are created because of the energy released by the electron. In
this stage 32 molecules of ATP are

The bill?s basic aim is to use a testing system to shine a light on schools that are not delivering a
quality education. Each child is to be tested annually from grades third through eight in both math and
reading yearly, and once in high school. (Symonds) Tests must be aligned with state academic content
and achievement standards. (Ed gov) By the school year 2007 2008, the same testing will be taking

each student is able to meet or exceed the standards.
Principals may also use the data to assess exactly how much progress each teacher?s students have

Observation Of A Soccer Field In Elementary School
Observation #1 For my first observation I observed my four year old nephew s soccer practice at an
elementary school which lasted about a half an hour. They met on the empty field at the elementary
school, there were about 3 other teams practicing at the same time but everyone was spread out. The
coaches set up cones and pop up goals for the children. There were about 12 15 children there, I think
they said a few kids weren t there. There were about four coaches or helpers working with the
children. The first thing they did with the kids was a few warm up activities, the first being some sort
of running activity where the children ran around following the coaches, next, they hopped in place
being silly. Then the kids each got a ball and began a kicking exercise were the had to go around and
try to kick the ball at the cones and knock them down. Then the kids got in a line with their ball and
followed the leader around while dribbling the ball with both feet. In the next activity, the children got
to practice kicking a stationary ball into the goal. After that, they played a 7 min practice game. At this
point, many of the children were in the pre control level of proficiency because for most it is their first
time playing soccer and I could definitely tell. There might have been a few activities where some
children where at control level but it was very minimal. For example, during the kicking exercise, it
was very hard for the kids to control where their ball was going.

Female Victims Of Domestic Violence Against Women
Introduction
The health of any individual, whether male or female, should not be overlooked in any circumstance.
More specifically, one of the most underrated, controversial health situation for men is domestic
violence against men. Domestic violence, also known as intimate partner violence, occurs between
people in an intimate relationship. Despite the common belief that domestic violence only involves a
physical altercation, it takes on many different forms including threats of abuse, emotional and sexual

However, with the revolution of computers and automation speeding up, multimedia strategies are
also undergoing lot of rapid changes and improvements. There are some key advantages to multimedia
technology for advertising which are listed below: Ease of retrieval: Print media is something which is
not durable for longer periods of time. Unless properly documented, it can be lost in time or its quality
might get compromised. But with digital technology and multimedia, the data can be stored quite
intact and also be retrieved whenever needed. Speed of Transfer: Working in multimedia increases
speed of work because hundreds of copies can be easily generated with click of a mouse. In the earlier

Pharmacist Vs Pharmacy Technician Research Paper
Hospital Pharmacist Vs. Pharmacy Technician In today s world, many people are looking for a job that
would give them fulfillment in life. However, many of us are not sure what job really fits us. At the
beginning of college, I was not sure what career I wanted to pursue. My counselor suggested that I
enroll in General Studies , which would give me the requirements I needed, no matter what career I
chose. As a college student like me, it is really hard to choose between two careers. Since I was a kid,
I always wanted to go into the medical field, not because my parents wanted me to, but because I want
to help people. I always wanted to do something good for other people. I also wanted to get a job
where I can use my skills and abilities. My two major career choices are hospital pharmacist and
pharmacy technician. For selecting a career, I have decided to look for three key areas: education
requirements, skill requirements, and salary potential. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I knew that working in a medical field requires a lot of skill. One of the skills required is
communication skill. I do not have any problem with that. I know that I am a very talkative person and
I do love talking to others, so verbal skills come naturally to me. The Occupational Outlook Handbook
U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics from United States Department of Labor says that hospital
pharmacists must continue their courses throughout their career to keep updated with the latest
advances in pharmacological science. Basically what hospital pharmacists and pharmacy technicians
do are to fill up prescriptions, keep records, and instruct every patient on how and when do they need
to take their prescriptions . One thing that makes these two jobs different to each other is pharmacists
in the hospital are more flexible than the retail one. Although I do not have the job skills now, I will
learn the skills as I continue my journey into the pharmacy

Vimy Ridge Research Paper
On Monday April 9th 1917, at 5:30am, the battle of Vimy Ridge began. The Vimy Ridge is located in
Northern France at the Western Front and is seven kilometres long. The battle was fought for territory
against the British, Germans, and the Canadians. The Battle was successful for the Canadians and
changed their reputation for the better.
In autumn of 1916, Canadians moved to the front of the lines across from Vimy Ridge. The Battle of
Vimy Ridge was the first time that all four divisions of Canadian troops work together as an union.
The planning for the battle and the preparation were very ample. Canadians spent the entire winter
months trying to strengthen their alley. The Canadian troops were trained viciously. Canadians built a
tunnel system with train tracks, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There was about 150,000 casualties. This was a great tragedy for the people and families back home.
Children had lost their fathers and wives had lost their husbands. If the battle would end, there would
be less men to help around the house and earn money for the family.
Germany originally owned the Vimy Ridge, however the French had got some of the Ridge at one
point. Germany had retook the Ridge six months later. Other countries kept fighting for the Ridge to
try to get possession of it. But, the countries kept losing, thus making Germany own the Vimy Ridge
until Canadians came for it and had a plan.

On the day of the battle, the Canadians were well prepared and ready to attack. All four divisions
together as an union came together with more than 15,000 soldiers to attack. A lot of sacrifices
happened, soldiers including officers were killed during the battle, thus Cananda stronger than ever.
They forced the Germans to surrender in dugouts they had made to protect themselves. Canadians had

They should always rely on their research on the needs of their customers so that they can create
products that will satisfy their needs. Looking at the situation of the economy will also help them
generate their next move. If they want to embrace innovation, they should never be afraid to find
means to substitute the products they have or they can focus on acquiring companies that can help
them improvise their product so that customers won t find other substitutes. They should makes sure
that they can keep up with the trend on the economies demand so that they will have an idea on what
to create so that customers will look to them whenever new technologies are produced.
Implementation In order for these plans to be attained, IBM should always have an open mind on the
possibilities that new technologies will enter the market. In order for them to compete with rival
companies, they should continue acquiring companies that will broaden their product line and improve
their production. Outsourcing is one thing, but if possible they should give importance to
programmers and their creative ideas for innovation. There is always a possibility for development on
the technology people use these days. If they can take advantage of their capacity to produce new
products they can always expect customer satisfaction as well as profits from sales. To sum things up,
what I think they should always look into is the demand of customers and their ability to find new

The Origins Of Jazz Into Hiphop
This semester we have learned about various artists that come from different genres. Learning about
the Origins of Jazz into Hiphop was interesting. There are a lot of similarities between many of the
artists back then with the artists of this time period. It was interesting learning about how much the
music related to the social causes happening around certain time periods. It is almost as if music
became a problem free zone for musicians of that time; it was an escape. Of the various artists there
are three that come to my mind when I think about their influence to their time period as well as their
influences to future times periods. These artist included, Jimi Hendrix, James Brown, and Elvis
Presley. Elvis Presley was an important Rock and Roll artist of his time period. He was known for
being a rebel and supposedly causing white people to rebel as blacks did. Rock and Roll itself was
known as the rebel s music. It was a controversial genre that wired up young Americans. Regardless of
the artist, Rock and Roll was thought of being the reason why the youth was being corrupted. Critics
would try to sensor the music, but failed. By the late 1960s, rock music was the accepted musical
vocabulary of young people world wide. Rock and Roll gave shape to the cultural movements going
on around the world. In the United States, rock and roll music could no longer ignore social
conditions. Artists had to start contributing to the events going on around them as part of their

1974 Term Limits
The Term Limits and the 1974 Budget Reform are the two reflections for week five. There has been a
great debate concerning term limits. Term limits are considered to be the key point in rebuilding the
relationship between the government and U. S. citizens. American citizens has lost faith in their
government, because the citizens feel they are not represented, but the officials are focused on
benefiting themselves. However, term limits can remove good leaders out, who may deserve to stay in
office for a longer period of time. As the authors states that political bodies do not experience they
need when there are limits on how long they can be in office. It also may keep qualified individuals

Strategic Alliance Vs. Acquisition M AAnd Organic Growth
STRATEGIC ALLIANCE: A strategic alliance is an agreement between two or more parties to pursue
a set of agreed upon objectives needed while remaining independent organizations. This form of
cooperation lies between Mergers Acquisition M A and organic growth. Partners may provide the
strategic alliance with resources such as products, distribution channels, manufacturing capability,
project funding, capital equipment, knowledge, expertise, or intellectual property. The alliance is
cooperation or collaboration which aims for a synergy where each partner hopes that the benefits from
the alliance will be greater than those from individual efforts. The alliance often involves technology
transfer (access to knowledge and expertise), economic specialization, shared expenses and shared
risk. INtRODUCTION: Nowadays, the commercial competition has surpassed the limits of the
previous era in which dominant markets are protecting their set market shares. Mega commercial
activity back then was completely regulated by the government. The United States has privatized a lot
of sectors related to energy, telecommunication, and transportation sectors. In response, the USA
introduced the deregulations in the aviation industry to increase the competition in the aviation
market. In the past few years, the commercial air carriers have formed strategic alliances with each
other which were not possible before this due to the previous regulations. The main reasons for the
creation of these

Honors Internship Program
Going into my senior year I was originally not enrolled for the internship program; all I had was a
seventh period release. I overheard many of my peers talking about the Honors Internship Program
and the concept sounded wonderful to me: getting an honors credit for a release. I soon realized it was
much more than that. I have had my coaching position at Desert Lights Gymnastics since I was fifteen
years old. Over the course of the last three years I have grown so much in this position and having the
internship program has caused me to come to this realization. Getting the opportunity to reflect and
discuss my position with Ms. Boatright and my mentor was a very empowering feeling. I was able to
share with them the things I had learned and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Desert Lights Gymnastics is not a public facility, it is a business. As a business problems need to be
solved without the gym losing any money. I experienced a conflict with a parent after the winter
testing session, where I test the gymnasts in my classes to see if they are ready to move up to the next
level. After the session, a parent called Christi (faculty member in charge of enrollment) and
demanded to have his daughter moved up to the next level. Christi assured him that this issue will be
discussed with me, because as her coach, I am the only person that has the power to bump athletes up
to the next level. At first I stood my ground and told Christi this child was nowhere near ready to
accelerate to the next level and refused the request. Christi informed me that this was a matter of
moving her up or losing business, after all the girl was a lot older than her classmates and would fit in
better age wise with the higher class. I gave in to the request even if it did get on my nerves. As a
coach I like to believe I know what is best for my students; however, as a business woman, I need to
do what is best for the company. To any future students who would like to participate in the internship
program, go for it! You have nothing to lose and everything to gain. My best advice would be to find a
job you are interested in, or have any sort of passion for. This makes the learning experience all the
more worthwhile and rewarding. Communication is key; making sure to communicate as much as
possible with your mentor and Ms. Boatright will ensure proper guidance. I am thankful I chose this
class to be a part of in my senior year, it was a rewarding experience that taught me a lot about my job

Becoming An Anesthesiologist
In the operating room, one of the most important jobs is that of an anesthesiologist. He or she is a
medical doctor who administers anesthesia, a drug used to reduce pain, to a patient during a surgical
procedure. An anesthesiologist is responsible for monitoring the patient before, during, and after the
surgical procedure to ensure the correct dosage of anesthesia is administered and to deal with any
allergic reactions to or complications with the drug. Before administering the drug, an anesthesiologist
must carefully review a patient s medical history and condition to find the correct dosage of anesthesia
needed. He or she must also meet with the patient to explain what will be happening when the patient
is under the influence of the drug. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Usually, wake up time is around 5:30 AM or earlier on a weekday with an arrival time at the hospital
of 6:00 AM. After entering the hospital, the doctor changes into his or her scrubs and flower cap and
grabs his OR (operating room) schedule. The anesthesiologist then heads to the operating room to
check all equipment and drugs for the day. This process takes about 20 40 minutes. At around 6:30
AM, there is a morning lecture where the doctor meets with the patient to talk about the anesthetic
plans as well as review the patient s medical history. Then the patient goes into the OR. During the
surgery, the doctor may take a fifteen minute break sometime in the morning. However, he or she must
always be easily accessible in the case of an emergency. There is also a lunch break in the afternoon,
but again, the doctor is on standby in case anything goes awry during the surgery. Most cases, the
surgery ends between 3:30 to 5 PM and a resident comes to take his spot after 5 PM. Before the doctor
leaves, he or she must check tomorrow s schedule and review patient s history. This takes about 30 45
minutes. During this time, the anesthesiologist also discusses the patient s conditions with other
members of the surgical team. Sometimes in the afternoon, the anesthesiologist will have to do some
teaching to instruct residents and medical school students. At around 5 6 PM, he or she is allowed to
head home for the day. However, sometimes, the anesthesiologist may be on call and have to come
back to the hospital for an

  • 3. Service Learning Reflection According to Kathleen Flecky and Lynn Gitlow, service learning is defined as, learning that occurs in experiences, reflection, and civic engagement (Flecky Gitlow, 2011). In recent years more universities are implementing service learning into their curriculum. A key concept of service learning is civic responsibility. Civic responsibility can simply be defined as your responsibilities as a citizen. As will be shown later in this paper, service learning can have many benefits not only to a student, but also to the community members I personally believe that service learning is a great thing for many reasons. One of the biggest reasons is that service learning can give you great exposure to having face to face interaction which I think millennials try to avoid. Another reason that service learning is a great thing is that it can teach some people about how to be more compassionate as well as helping students understand their civic responsibilities as young adults. As stated by Flecky Gitlow (2011), a unique aspect of service learning is that it incorporates structured opportunities for students, faculty and community partners to reflect on their interactions and activities in light of both educational and community objectives. (p. 1 2). My interpretation of this quote is that the authors view service learning in a positive light. My understanding is that the authors believe by students reflecting on their interactions with the community, it can help further their ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 5. African Women In Colonial Society By Carol Berkin Essays should have organized thoughts, an interesting writing style, and most importantly get the attention of the reader. The essay, African Women in Colonial Society, by Carol Berkin was no exception. The claims were well thought out and clear, and the essay definitely hooked readers in with an anecdote that led into the story quite fittingly. She had three noticeable claims that were major that she talks about in the essay, and that is the struggles of African women, moreso compared to that of a man s, the silver linings that the women found, and finally the unity of the Africans through common languages and religion. For one thing, women struggled with obstacles, that men could not even have. Women took a major role in childbirth, but the malnourished, and overworked women were not in the best condition to have children. Regardless they had many, and that mean a lot of the women and their children would die during birth. They had about three children in their lifetime, and only two would survive. Additionally, the laws back then had no care for the wellbeing of the women. This led to awful laws that actually benefitted the men who would rape and seduce women. Additionally, all of the adjusting they had to do after their arrival really took a toll on them. Once they came to America after their brutal transport through the middle passage, they had to immediately be accustomed to a new language, climate, food, and culture. This statement is one of the most significant to understand the postcolonial view of the novel, by referencing its title with the imagery of a knife breaking things apart expresses not only the cruel overpowering intentions of the colonialists but also the vulnerability of the Igbo culture. And lastly, as the book ends with Okonkwo s suicidal tragic death it represents the futility and inefficiency in over fighting colonizing forces and the downfall of the protagonist is the final indication of the Igbo culture falling apart. Similarly, in Persepolis the protagonist Marji, also experiences the frustration of western overpowering influence on her culture. There are innumerous moments in Marjane s childhood in which she suffers from prejudgments due to the Iranian stereotypes. For example, when she is travelling outside the country for the first time she realizes that as soon as they learn our nationality, they go through everything, as though we were all terrorists. They treat us as though we have the plague. This simile comparing being Iranian with having a disease victimizes the Iranian people, as it equates racism to an irrational and condemning repugnance. • 10. Analysis Of Cathedral By Raymond Carver A New Perspective Everyone at one point has judged a book by its cover. In the short story, Cathedral , Raymond Carver creates a narrator who bases off ideas and assumptions about blind people from movies. The narrator has never interacted with a blind person before the day where his wife invites her friend, who is named Robert, to stay. The narrator and Robert have never met, but the narrator has a strong dislike towards Robert before meeting. The narrator s closed mindedness and misconceptions leads him to judge Robert, however after a few hours of interaction, the narrator learns more about him and grows to have a new perspective about people not being who they think they are. The narrator is pre judgemental towards all people who are blind, whether or not he has met them. He believes all blind people are the same as those he has watched in movies. The narrator perception of the blind is that they moved slowly and never laughed and when they went out they were led by seeing eye dogs (Carver 104). The movie industry creates a false image of the blind, which leads to the narrator s assumptions. However, the blind are not all the same, just like how everyone else in the world are not the same. People are designed to be different in their personalities, thoughts, looks and much more. The narrator s ideas of Robert are based off of false conceptions and this changes his attitude towards Robert. The narrator already has strong feelings towards Robert before meeting him ... • 11. The Simple Soul In The Phaedo And The Republic Within this essay, I am going to argue that the simple soul is a more plausible conception than the idea of multiplicity within the soul within Plato s work. This is due to the multiplicity of the soul resting on a circular argument of Plato s ideal city which in turn rests back upon his idea of the tripartite soul. However, it can also be argued that neither conceptions of the soul are plausible due to them both relying on Plato s theory of the Forms. Throughout Plato s works of the Phaedo and the Republic, his account for the soul is conflicting as Plato s two accounts cannot be reconciled. I will also refer to Plato s work in the Phaedrus to aid my explanation of the multiplicity within the soul. Simplicity of the soul Plato s theory of the simplicity of the soul is seen in the Phaedo. Through the mouthpiece of Socrates, Plato argues for a simple soul which only has one true aim. He states that the soul only seeks truth and that all other senses and experiences are merely distractions through the soul being embodied the soul reasons best when none of these senses troubles it, neither hearing nor sight, nor pain nor pleasure, but when it is most by itself, taking leave of the body and as far as possible having no contact or association with it in its search for reality. (Plato, 1997, §65c). The simple soul can only aim to grasp the truth of reality which it gets closer to as man becomes closer to death. This is why, in Plato s opinion, a philosopher in particular can ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

First we normalize the value of the workload information by using the formula Where, M = is the maximum value along the particular column, X= is the maximum value along the particular column, Q= is the original value. Q =is the normalized value. After Normalized the value we design an artificial neural network. 3.1 Artificial neural network In this structure of ANN we use the one input layer, one or more hidden layer, and one output layer. That structure we call MLP (multiple layer perceptron). On the input layer we use input layer 5 neurons. On the first hidden layer we are using the 5 neurons. And on the second hidden layer we use the 10 neurons. On the output layer we use the one neurons that predict the future load.NOW we train the workload information by using the Artificial neural network i.e. MLP structure. To Train the workload information aim is to find the set of weight values that will cause the output from the ANN to match to the target values as closely as possible. There several issues are arising when we train the neural network. First is selecting the number of hidden layer and neurons how much are used on the hidden layer. Second is to avoid the local minima and finding the globally optimal solution. To training the work load information first we need to divide the workload information. How much workload information is used to train? How much workload information for ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Her forehead was mild and benevolent between the smooth curves of gray hair; there were meek downward lines about her nose and mouth; but her eyes, fixed upon the old man, looked as if fthe meekness has been the result of her own will, never of the will of another (Freeman 308). Relationship Between Cellular Respiration And Photosynthesis Cellular respiration and photosynthesis are the primary actions that organisms go through in order to retrieve efficiency through nature. Photosynthesis is primarily done by plants and cellular respiration is done by animals in order to gain the energy they require. Photosynthesis is the process through which plant cells convert energy from the sun into chemical vitality. The chemical process of photosynthesis involves carbon dioxide, water, and sunlight which are then turned to glucose and oxygen. Cellular respiration consists of the separation of food molecules that results in energy which is then reserved as adenosine triphosphate molecules. After sugar molecules are formed by photosynthesis, the plants go through cellular respiration in order to form ATP molecules. Animals gather food molecules ... During the glycolysis stage glucose is disintegrated, this happens in the cytoplasm of the cell. Once the glucose is broken down two identical compounds are created. Two electrons and a hydrogen ion are removed then attached to adenine forming NADH. Water is then formed using an oxygen and two hydrogen atoms. In this stage two ATP molecules are added. The linking reaction occurs in the mitochondria of the cell. NAD+ and pyruvate come together to form NADH and an acetyl enzyme. The Krebs cycle involves removing hydrogen atoms from the acetyl coenzyme in order to form four molecules of ATP. Carbon then combines with oxygen, creating carbon dioxide. Electrons are unconstrained and move towards the electron transport chain because of NADH. These electrons go through the electron chain until it finds an oxygen atom, where water is formed then released. ATP molecules are created because of the energy released by the electron. Then the kids got in a line with their ball and followed the leader around while dribbling the ball with both feet. In the next activity, the children got to practice kicking a stationary ball into the goal. After that, they played a 7 min practice game. At this point, many of the children were in the pre control level of proficiency because for most it is their first time playing soccer and I could definitely tell. • 29. The Origins Of Jazz Into Hiphop This semester we have learned about various artists that come from different genres. Learning about the Origins of Jazz into Hiphop was interesting. There are a lot of similarities between many of the artists back then with the artists of this time period. It was interesting learning about how much the music related to the social causes happening around certain time periods. It is almost as if music became a problem free zone for musicians of that time; it was an escape. Of the various artists there are three that come to my mind when I think about their influence to their time period as well as their influences to future times periods. These artist included, Jimi Hendrix, James Brown, and Elvis Presley. Elvis Presley was an important Rock and Roll artist of his time period. He was known for being a rebel and supposedly causing white people to rebel as blacks did. Rock and Roll itself was known as the rebel s music. It was a controversial genre that wired up young Americans. Regardless of the artist, Rock and Roll was thought of being the reason why the youth was being corrupted. Critics would try to sensor the music, but failed. By the late 1960s, rock music was the accepted musical vocabulary of young people world wide. Rock and Roll gave shape to the cultural movements going on around the world. In the United States, rock and roll music could no longer ignore social conditions. I overheard many of my peers talking about the Honors Internship Program and the concept sounded wonderful to me: getting an honors credit for a release. I soon realized it was much more than that. I have had my coaching position at Desert Lights Gymnastics since I was fifteen years old. Over the course of the last three years I have grown so much in this position and having the internship program has caused me to come to this realization. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Desert Lights Gymnastics is not a public facility, it is a business. As a business problems need to be solved without the gym losing any money. I experienced a conflict with a parent after the winter testing session, where I test the gymnasts in my classes to see if they are ready to move up to the next level. After the session, a parent called Christi (faculty member in charge of enrollment) and demanded to have his daughter moved up to the next level. Christi assured him that this issue will be discussed with me, because as her coach, I am the only person that has the power to bump athletes up to the next level. At first I stood my ground and told Christi this child was nowhere near ready to accelerate to the next level and refused the request. Christi informed me that this was a matter of moving her up or losing business, after all the girl was a lot older than her classmates and would fit in better age wise with the higher class. I gave in to the request even if it did get on my nerves. As a coach I like to believe I know what is best for my students; however, as a business woman, I need to do what is best for the company. To any future students who would like to participate in the internship program, go for it! You have nothing to lose and everything to gain. My best advice would be to find a job you are interested in, or have any sort of passion for. This makes the learning experience all the more worthwhile and rewarding.
