ASSURE Method Assignment
Scenario
Teaching the months of the year to a 1st
grade class, Special ed, 10 boys, 7 girls, 70%
white, 20% African-American and 10% Hispanic.7 students in the class have mild to
severe ADHD (attention deficit hyperactivity disorder).
Analyze Learners:
Analyze the students’ prior knowledge by asking them to write down as many months as
they may know.
State Objectives:
Each student will learn at least 75% of the months and associate them with something
that will help them remember each one.
Select Methods, Media, and Materials:
Using flashcards that have a picture that represents each month. For example, the
flashcard for December will say December on one side and have a Christmas tree on the
other side. PowerPoint can also be used in the same way as well as matching cards.
Utilize Media and Materials:
Students will be shown flash cards or a PowerPoint to help them learn the months and
associate them with something. Matching cards will be used in a game to match the
month with the picture that represents them.
Require Learner Participation:
All students must participate in learning the months through PowerPoint and flashcards.
I will get them engaged by letting them know about the game that follows and that them
listening can help them win the game.
Evaluate and Revise:
I will evaluate all techniques used and the effect they have on the students. Changes will
be made if necessary.
