ASSURE Method Assignment
1. Teaching the months of the year to a 1st grade class, Special ed, 10 boys, 7 girls, 70% white
20% African-American and 10% Latino. 7 students in the class have mild to severe ADHD.

State Objectives
By the end of the week, students will recite individually the months of the year in order with
100% accuracy. They will learn this through making a calendar of their own, singing songs,
watching a video, and listing them aloud together as a class.
Select Methods, Media, and Materials
Break-down into 3-4 months
 start off by having them learn 3-4 at a time
Making calendars
 give students a calendar that has space for a picture at the top of each month
 have students create pictures that remind them of that month for each month

 is call-and-response, interactive
Utilize Media and Materials
YouTube Video: call-and-response keeps it student centered
Require Learner Participation
 Must sing-along to the song
 Must complete the calendar
Evaluate and Revise
 Ask them to individually recite the months on Wednesday to see if they have retained any
information and to see how much work they still need
 Wednesday’s evaluation may call for revisions in the teaching methods
 Evaluate again at the end of the week by having them individually recite the months
again and by arranging slips of paper with each month on it into the correct order
