This document provides an ASSURE model lesson plan for teaching months of the year to a 1st grade special education class. The class has 17 students, most are white with some African American and Latino students. Seven have ADHD. The plan breaks the months into groups of 3-4 and uses a months song video and calendar activity. Students will sing along and complete the calendar. Progress will be evaluated midweek and at the end to see if the objective of reciting the months in order with 100% accuracy is met. Revisions may be made based on the midweek evaluation.

State Objectives
By the end of the week, students will recite, in order, the months of the year with 100%
accuracy. They will learn this through making a calendar of their own and singing songs.

Break-down into 3-4 months
 start off by having them learn 3-4 at a time
Making calendars
 give students a calendar that has space for a picture at the top of each month
 have students create pictures that remind them of that month for each month

Evaluate and Revise
 Ask them to individually recite the months on Wednesday to see if they have retained any
information and to see how much work they still need
 Wednesday’s evaluation may call for revisions in the teaching methods
 Evaluate again at the end of the week by having them individually recite the months
again and by arranging slips of paper with each month on it into the correct order
