1. Tuesday
Rationale
The purpose of this lesson is to teach the benefits of nutrition and the risks of an
unhealthy diet. If students learn the risks and benefits of different foods, they will be able
to make healthier food choices on their own.
Discussion Questions
What’s the difference between good fats and bad fats?
What foods are bad for your heart?
Why is fish known as brain food?
Activating Strategy
A voki and podcast will get students’ thinking in the right direction for their
research.
Procedures
1. Upon entering the classroom, students will be separated into their groups.
2. The groups will be directed to the computers or their smart phones to listen to a
voki and a podcast that will help with their research.
3. The students will then begin researching the foods they selected to find out the
risks or benefits by using helpful links that I post on the class twitter page.
Lesson Summary
The lesson will come to an end by having each group share what they learned about
their foods. I will give them tips and hints if they need to do more research.
Formative Assessment
Students will be assessed on their participation and effort during group research.
