This document discusses nosocomial antibiotic resistant organisms MRSA and VRE. MRSA is resistant to most antibiotics and is found in healthcare facilities. It is easily spread and difficult to treat. Risk factors include surgery, devices, age, multiple antibiotic treatments, illness or disability. MRSA is spread through direct contact and health care workers are main carriers. VRE is also hard to treat and some forms can pass on drug resistance. Risk factors are similar to MRSA. Proper hand washing before and after contact is key to preventing the spread of MRSA and VRE between patients and health care workers.
