Similarities Between La Belle Dame Sans Merci And Annabel Lee
Love in Poe s Annabel Lee and Keats s La Belle Dame sans Merci
Poe s Annabel Lee and Keats s La Belle Dame sans Merci depict the destructive effects that women
exercise upon men. In both poems, women, by death and deception, harm their adoring lovers. In
Annabel Lee, Annabel dies and leaves the speaker in isolation; in La Belle Dame Sans Merci, the
fairy, La Belle Dame, captures the speaker s heart, and then deserts him. The common theme of both
poems, that love generates harmful effects, is a reflection of both poets upsetting and harmful
childhood experiences.
Poetry, Keats purports, comes from the ferment of an unhappy childhood working through a noble
imagination (Keats 16). The lesson of [Keat s] ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He creates an aroma of sex in pacing steed, which might be an innocent horse ride, but is possibly a
sexual metaphor (the speaker being the steed.) The repetition of wild eyes is a sexual euphemism,
furthering the sexual nature of love expressed within the poem. Even the knight s last memory of the
fairy is of a sexual nature; the knight receives kisses four, afterwards the fairy lulls him to sleep. Keats
s love is relatively more tenuous than Poe s, because the fairy s love is unpredictable, and bizarre ( In
language strange she said / I love thee true ). This love is also destructive, as warned by the dead men
in the last stanza with their horrid warning that La Belle Dame/ Thee hath in thrall! Poe and Keats
employ the their speakers painful experiences with love as examples of love s ruinous consequences.
La Belle Dame sans Merci and Annabel Lee develop their characters with attention to details, so that
the impact of the characters experiences are more intense and vivid.. In Annabel Lee, the speaker calls
Annabel a maiden, starting the poem with virtuous connotations. The reader learns that Annabel is
from high birth through reference to her as a highborn kinsmen, and her grave as a sepulchre. Annabel
s wealthy birthright generates the

Similarities Between The Male Lion And The Queen Of The...
King of the Jungle or Queen of the Jungle? The male lion is known to be the king of the jungle, but is
he the one in charge? It is common in many animal species that the female is the dominant sex. It is
also common for the female to be deadlier than the male. The female could contain more venom or the
female could be more adept to kill than the male. An example of the female being deadlier is lions.
The lioness does more hunting than the male and is said to be deadlier. Hickens posed the question in
his essay what makes the female deadlier than the male in reference to humans. When comparing the
lioness to the human female, one would find numerous similarities. Considering the nickname of the
lioness as the Queen of the Jungle, the female human could be dubbed Queen of the Countryside. The
deadly lioness shares many of the same characteristics with the female human. The lioness differs
physically from that of the male lion, much in the way that a female human being differs from a male.
The female lion is typically smaller and has less muscle. While the male lion is typically ten feet long,
the female is usually only nine feet long. However, both of the lions are only about four feet tall on all
four legs. Another main difference between the lions is that the male possesses a flowing mane and the
female does not. While the female and male lion look different, the typical female and male human
look different as well. The typical female human has physical traits that

Emotional Analysis Of The Old Spice Scent Vacation...
We all know a person who looks very confident and put together on the outside, but a conversation
with them reveals that much is lacking in their personality. Similarly, commercials can appear fun or
exciting, but upon further inspection it is greatly lacking in depth. Because of this, creating
commercials is a balance between providing information and keeping the viewers engaged. The
process isn t simply writing a script containing only style and no substance, or one with only
substance and no style. With the former, a commercial could capture the audience s attention, but
provides no supporting information; the latter, provides an excessive amount of information, but does
not seize the viewers. Creating commercials pines for the utmost balance; if the balance is off by a
fraction, it could mean the difference between a million dollars or zero. The Old Spice Scent Vacation
commercial sits atop the pinnacle of this balance. It was made to advertise their new collection of
scents ranging from the scenic beaches of Fiji to the snowy peak of Denali (Mt. McKinley). The
commercial illustrates this balance through the use of emotional appeals, imagery, and appeals to
authority and credibility to convince people of the outlandish benefits of switching to Old Spice, in
terms of confidence and sexual appeal.
Old Spice s use of appealing to certain emotions carries strong effects in this commercial. It evokes a
multitude of feelings, anywhere from anger to lust to joy. The commercial

Nude Photographs Censorship
The relative immaturity of today s world has caused a great deal of calamity over certain issues. As an
example, one main conflict has arisen between the general public of today and an artistic form that
truly depicts the human body. This problem has arisen in museums of today, which by definitions are
locations where objects of historical, scientific, artistic, or cultural importance are displayed. Nude
photographs are appropriate, if not necessary in most museums of today because of their relative
significance to our own backgrounds. Without going into too much detail, every facet of each human
is different from that of another and neglecting that difference would be ignoring the artform that is
the body. Due to the immaturity of today s ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
All forms of censorship seek to hide something from viewers, whether it be blurring nudity on
television or excluding it from places of learning where it is studied and observed, museums. Nudity is
appropriate in museums to the public, however, in some cases, it has been entirely censored. Several
lawsuits have ensued and in some cases, the museums have won, and in others the cases have been
dismissed at an early stage. Facebook even blocked the French art museum, the Jeu de Paume, for
twenty four hours after it posted a nude photo that would come to be displayed. Freedom of
expression is very real, and to censor this pivotal right by not allowing the showcasing of nudity in
museums is technically a crime. Artists have the right to express themselves. Curators have the right to
choose the expression they think matters most. And the rest of us have the right to see that expression,
and judge those choices for ourselves. If anyone s offended by any work in any museum, they have
the easiest redress: They can vote with their feet, and avoid the art they don t like (Gopnik 1). This
quote taken from a Washington Post article puts the entire argument into perspective. It is the right of
museums to showcase what they deem is of value and it not up to the general public to advocate for its
removal. As long as the curator of any given museum deems a piece worthy for the general public,
then it most definitely should be shown. It is hard for some to realize the difference between the
seemingly pornographic and artistic. Yet, museums make the distinction and only house educational
pieces, eliminating all of non historical, non scientific, non cultural, and non artistic significance.
Nude photographs are appropriate in museums because of their educational

Outcasts Of Poker Flat
Total Opposites In the short story The Outcasts of Poker Flat by Bret Harte, the author uses characters
in the story that have very similar characteristics, except for one, Uncle Billy. John Oakhurst is a big
time gambler in Poker Flat. He took large sums of money from many people in town. The residents of
Poker Flat were very upset with him always winning bets and all of their money. Out of all the people
that are banned from Poker Flat, Oakhurst possesses the best qualities out of the group. The people of
the town were attempting to clean up Poker Flat, but they really only rid themselves of one thief and
three good hearted people that had some bad breaks. The other people that were forced to leave were

This is a side that may have never been shown if she had not left Poker Flat. Being a prostitute, The
Duchess did not have a chance to learn about the men that she was pleasuring. The men that she was
with were purely there for business and no relationships could ever take form. This may be the same
type of awakening that Oakhurst had when he left from Poker Flat. Being a gambler by trait, he was
often all alone with nobody to rely on besides himself and the cards. He referred to everything as if it
were a card game. Oakhurst realizes that the way to survive is by caring for the others, and having
them do the same for him. In Mother Shipton s words this Oakhurst was so different that he didn t say
cards once during the evening, (Harte 610). The Duchess and Oakhurst both experienced an
awakening upon leaving Poker Flat. Mother Shipton is another madam from Poker Flat that is being
exiled. She takes on the role of the Mother figure to Piney and The Duchess. At the beginning of the
journey Mother Shipton is very loud and bitter towards the world. She would often use bad language
and at one point expressed a desire to cut somebody s heart out (Harte 608). But by the end of the
story, Mother Shipton has softened up and shows consideration towards members of the group that
was never thought possible. She gives up everything that she has including her own life to try and save

How to Teach Reported Speech
1.6. How to Teach Reported Speech Review Practice Lesson plan
Teaching students reported or indirect speech can be complicated by the all the changes that are
required when moving from direct speech into reported speech. First off, students should understand
that reported speech is quite useful in conversational English as relating what someone has said using
quote and unquote is awkward at best. A further aspect of reported speech is encouraging students to
use other reporting verbs beyond say and tell .
Introducing Reported Speech
Start with Tenses
I find it best to start off with simple examples in which changes are only made in tense. For example:
Write on the Board:
Direct Speech

Both Jack and I commented that Peter was a lucky person indeed.
Exercise 2: Ask you partner the following questions making sure to take good notes. After you have
finished the questions, find a new partner and report what you have learnt about your first partner
using reported speech.
What is your favorite sport and how long have you been playing/doing it?
What are your plans for your next vacation?
How long have you known your best friend? Can you give me a description of him/her?
What kind of music do you like? Have you always listened to that kind of music?
What did you use to do when you were younger that you don t do anymore?
Do you have any predictions about the future?
Can you tell me what you do on a typical Saturday afternoon?
What were you doing yesterday at this time?
Which two promises will you make concerning learning English?
As students become familiar with the reported speech, introduce a wider range of reporting verbs to
help students move past say and tell .
There are a number of other reporting verbs which can more accurately describe what someone has
said. These verbs take a variety of structures. The following list gives you reporting verbs in various
categories based on sentence structure. Notice that a number of verbs can take more than one form.
verb object infinitive verb infinitive verb (that)

Seminar Leader: Ailu Hiew

Date: 20th October 2015
In this essay I will be assessing the different areas of a student transitioning to university. I will be
discussing the key issues and challenges, which students may experience within their transitions and
how they will be able to deal with the difficulties they may have during their first year of university, in
addition to this there are strategies and actions they can take in order for their transition to be
effective. The experience students have can all vary on different students individual perspectives. This
could all determine on the kind of students that will be studying at the university, firstly you have
students who will be studying within their region or those who decides to move abroad to study which
are known as international students.
When students transition to university, there are many challenges and issues that students will
encounter. Briggs, A., Clark, J, and Hall, I, (2012, p2) mentions in his article a significant social
displacement, which may be intensified where the student is mature, is the first in their family to
attend university . This indicates that students may feel pressured by their family members and having
an expectation due to them being the

New Terminology in Criminal Justice
We use research methods in our every day life and not even know it. Research methods play a very
important part in the life of someone who is in the criminology field. Without some of the research
methods that we have, many cases would never get solved, and they would be in the cold case files. In
this paper, I will discuss new terminology and how it helps one who is in the criminology field.
Methodology or methods involve the collection of accurate facts and/or data regarding the nature of
crime and criminal justice policy. In my reading I learned about Researchese: the language of
research. To someone who is not familiar then ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I think since I am in the field of criminology, that knowing all these terms will help me be an asset
over someone who does not know what they are. Knowing a different language of research will also
help me with researching things from homicide to burglary. If I were going to hire someone to be on
my police force, and I had two people to choose from. I would most definitely pick the person who
knew more about the force and what goes on inside the force over someone who did not. People do
not think that Jargon is something very important to know, but in all reality it is very important. Jargon
in any field helps the people in that field know what is going on without letting other people who aren
t suppose to know. It is almost like it is a secret code and you had to be initiated in to know what is
going on. I believe that knowing the language of research is one of the most important methods in
criminal justice or criminology that a person can know. It is something very helpful that no one can
take away from you. It is the knowledge of knowing what is going

The Critique Of The Milgram Experiment
A particular experiment that I found intriguing so far in this class was The Milgram Experiment,
which was conducted by psychologist Stanley Milgram in 1963. The whole experiment was based
around obedience, particularly the conflict between obedience as related to authority and a person s
inner conscience (McLeod). Milgram got the idea for the study after the Nuremburg War Criminals
trial since many of the ones that were being tried claimed to just be following orders from a higher
authority (McLeod). This famous experiment took place soon after the trial of Adolf Eichmann which
left Milgram with the question, Could it be that Eichmann and his million accomplices in the
Holocaust were just following order? Could we call them Accomplices? People that took part in this
experiment were males where one was the learner and the other was the teacher. However, what the
participants did not know was that the learner was actually a confederate, or a person that is directly
involved in the experiment, that way the other person was always the teacher. The two were in
separate rooms, with the teacher s room containing a researcher and an electric shock generator and
the switches which ranged from 15 volts to 450 volts which was deadly. As the experiment began the
learner was strapped to a chair where they then hooked electrodes to him. He was then given a list of
paired words and was told to memorize them, the teacher then tested him by naming one of the words

Outline For The Color Purple
1. Point of View: The novel The Color Purple is written from the first person point of view. The effect
that the author achieves by using the first person point of view is that while you are reading the book
you could put yourself in the main character s shoes and actually imagine what she is going through
and how she feels. 2. Main Characters: a. Celie in her early 50s b. Three adjectives that would
describe Celie are scared, timid, and vulnerable. The quote that supports my choices is I think about
Nettie, dead. She fight, she run away. What good it do? I don t fight, I stay where I m told. But I m
alive (Walker 21). c. Celie is a round and dynamic character due to the big change she goes through in

Nettie is a flat and static character because in the novel she doesn t change at all, she is the same
person from the beginning till the end. d. This character s function in the novel is being the sister and
friend of Celie. Even though they are far apart they never stop communicating from one another
because they always wrote letters to each other. e. In my opinion there is no significance to Nettie s
name. f. You ve got to fight and get away from Albert. He ain t no good (Walker 122). This quote
shows how caring Nettie is with Celie because she is warning her about Albert and that he may be
dangerous. Also she doesn t want her sister to suffer which is why she writes her the letter about what
Albert was going to do to her. 3. Minor Characters: a. Celie s mother b. The connection that this
character has to both Nettie and Celie is that she is their mother. Her name is never mentioned
throughout the book and she is the wife of Fonso who is the stepfather of Celie and Nettie. c. Celie s
mother is always sick and pregnant. a. Olivia b. Olivia is the daughter of Celie but is raised by Corrine
because she was sold by Fonso. Later Corrine dies and Nettie becomes their mother and talks to them
about Celie. c. Olivia is obedient and cares about her education. 4.

Paralysis In Dubliners
Moreover, symbolism plays a big role in Dubliners by characters being symbols of their own
paralysis. In The Dead , Aunt Julie is paralyzed because of her lack of romance in her life and Gabriel
is paralyzed by lacking communication of his family and friends. The what if scenario of Eveline is
with Aunt Julie growing old and still not knowing where she was or where she was going due to her
paralysis of when she was young because she is in between what was and what is next, she is still in
that stage of liminality (Joyce 115). The same paralysis that Mrs. Sinico could have stayed with if she
has not committed suicide to solve her problems. Next, Gabriel Conroy s paralysis like Mr. Duffy in A

Eastern and Western Religions Essay
The Soul According to Eastern amp; Western Religions The idea of the soul varies widely in religious
tradition. While these variations exist, its basic definition is unvarying. The soul can be described as
the ultimate internal principle by which we think, feel, and will, and by which our bodies are
animated. The soul is seen as the core principle of life or as the essence of a being 1. Views on the
permanence of the soul vary throughout religious tradition as well. While some view it as a mortal
entity in flux others believe the soul is an immortal and permanent unit. These interpretations vary
from time period to time period and between religions. These characteristics of the soul are interpreted

Hinduism believes that realizing the soul is the embodiment of Brahman is essential to being released
from the cycle of rebirth, Samsara. Hindus understand that the soul, atman, is permanent and only
inhabits a physical shell which dies and passes the soul on to the next mortal shell, which can be better
or worse than the previous depending on karma. With that said, Hindus believe in rebirth until one
realizes the ultimate divine at which point they would be free from the punarjanma, the transmigration
of the soul, liberating their souls to achieve moksha. Buddhism, on the other hand, challenges Atman
with the belief in Anatman, which is non self. Buddhists believe that the world is constantly changing,
nullifying the concept of the permanent soul, Atman. There is no reason the soul remains unchanged
in a perpetually changing environment. Anatman is the idea of no permanent soul 3. A common
misconception is that Anatman means people have no soul. In reality it describes the constant change
of the soul during its time on earth. Buddhism holds that while there is no soul, the five elements that
make up an individual orient themselves to form a new individual. With each cycle of rebirth, these
aggregates, which include mind, consciousness, body, impulse, and feeling, will combine differently
to form distinct individuals 4. While Buddhists believe in karma, a summation of positive and
negative actions, they

Comparing Odysseus And Penelope In Homer s Odyssey
Odysseus and Penelope
Odysseus and Penelope are one of the oldest and greatest love stories ever known. The couple is most
known for their perseverance through the many hardships in life. It s a classic story showing that love
trumps all. However, there is much more to the story than people actually know. It s a story about
hospitality, loyalty, perseverance, vengeance, spiritual growth.
In the story of Odysseus and Penelope, the two fall madly in love the very moment they see each
other. They end up marrying soon after. They had a son, Telemachus. Odysseus, now the lord of his
island Ithica was sent to fight in the Trojan War for ten years, leaving his brand new son and wife.

The Endangered Species Act
These expenses are rarely tax deductible, leaving landowners uncompensated for the prohibited use of
their property. The lack of financial support from the federal government undoubtedly creates a rift
between the Fish and Wildlife Service and private landowners. Moreover, private landowners shoulder
a regulatory burden in addition to financial burden as a result of the Endangered Species Act. Section
9 of the Act outlines prohibited private landowner actions, including the taking of an endangered
species. The Fish and Wildlife Service defines a taking as the significant habitat modification or
degradation that actually kills or injures wildlife by significantly impairing essential behavior patterns,
including breeding, feeding, or ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Researchers believe that this difference is the result of preemptive habitat destruction by private
landowners responding to the risk of regulatory requirements, also known as shoot, shovel, and shut
up (Wilcove et al., 1996). They state that, landowners are afraid that if they take actions that attract
new endangered species to their land or increase the populations of the endangered species that are
already there, their reward for doing so will be more regulatory restrictions on the use of their property
(Wilcove et al., 1996). The probability that the Fish and Wildlife Service will detect a species
significantly increases the level of habitat destruction by private landowners, indicating that a fear of
regulation is the motivation for this behavior. One frequently referenced case involves Ben Cone, a
disgruntled landowner from North Carolina who faced heavy land use restrictions resulting from the
presence of 12 Red Cockaded Woodpecker colonies on his property. The Red Cockaded Woodpecker,
or Leuconotopicus borealis, was very populous in the sandhills region of North Carolina for hundreds
of years, inhabiting cavities in mature longleaf pine forests (Walters, 1991). Because the species was
found on his property, Cone was restricted from harvesting 1,500 acres of prime timber, worth over $2
million (Stroup, 1995). Cone became extremely frustrated with the federal government, famously

Civil Liberties And Civil Rights
Throughout history, society has pushed the envelope with civil liberties and civil rights by tackling
Supreme Court decisions. The attempts to manipulate civil rights and civil liberties occurred without a
clear understanding of neither of the two. While civil rights and civil liberties regulate collective
action, they differ by providing freedoms from the government and by providing freedoms to act; their
shift in history has been denoted by racial and gender discrimination, nationalization, and rights of the
accused. Civil liberties, as denoted in the Bill of Rights, had limited the government s actions by
providing freedoms from the government. Because the government could not take away the people s
rights, the Bill of Rights listed thou shalt nots, which limit[ed] its [the government s] jurisdiction
(Lowi pg. 107). A famous substantive limitation, or a restriction against what Congress could do, was,
and is, the establishment clause, or the separation between Church and State. As the first component of
the First Amendment, the establishment clause impedes the government s ability from establishing a

What Psychological Information Is Available From The Early...
Recognizing a face is a starting point when interacting socially, as it is the most important stimuli we
see. The face portrays information about a person s identity, their emotional state and where they are
directing their visual attention. To be able to process this information within a very short space of time
is crucial in social interactions and probably dates back to our ancestor s survival. The human brain is
very adept in processing an abundance of information in a simple yet effortless way. These processes
require such specific brain areas to do this. This essay is going to discuss what psychological
information is available from the early stages of face processing. The essay will discuss the
neuroscience and the regions of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When humans cognitively process faces this involves either holistic processing or configural
processing. There is evidence that the processing of faces is done much more holistically than with
objects as this comes from studies of inversion (Yin, 1969). An inverted face impairs the recognition
and is much more difficult to encode than with other objects and this could be due to the spatial
relations.
In facial recognition a face model was created by Bruce and Young in 1986 and is one of the most
influential face models to be created and is still used. It comprises of eight components: structural
encoding, expression analysis, facial speech analysis, directed visual processing, face recognition
nodes, person identity nodes, name generation and cognitive system. According to their face
recognition model various types of information are acquired from faces. When recognising a familiar
face, the components used depend largely on structural encoding, face recognition units, person
identity nodes and name generation. In comparison with an unfamiliar face, the components used
depend largely on structural encoding, expression analysis, facial speech analysis and directed visual
processing. However, as the face model created by Bruce and Young (1986) was quite complex, a
simpler version was created by Duchaine and Nakayama (2006) which provided four stages: face
detection, structural encoding, face memory and emotion/gender etc.

Aspects Of Arctic Sovereignty
Environmental Aspects of Arctic Sovereignty 1. Introduction The Arctic has the world s largest unused
source of oil and it is getting international attention because of its extremely value resources
(Crawford, Hanson Runnalls, 2008). According to Digman (2011) the Arctic s commercial interest
mostly rely on drilling, mining and transportation development. However, Arctic s development not
only will lead to economical profits but also will bring international conflicts. Due to this, a
Sovereignty by the five Arctic s coastal countries such as Canada, Denmark, Norway, Russia and
United States is essential. Moreover, Arctic s climate change is happening right now due to human
induced factors (Isted, 2009) and Arctic s development will lead to environmental damage (Johnston,
2012). The effects of this combination will have significant global consequences and could end in an
environmental catastrophe (Crawford et al., 2008). The purpose of this report is to discuss the Arctic s
resources and developments as well as the environmental impacts of the Arctic s development and
climate change. In addition, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Digman (2011) concludes that melting permafrost will release a large volume of carbon to the sea
water; this will directly impact Arctic s fauna and flora. As a result, animal s distribution, range and

regardless of this situation, economic activities are increasing due to global warming (Isted, 2009)
because some countries consider the Arctic s melting ice an development opportunity (Smith, 2010).
Therefore, Crawford et al. (2008) argue that changing climate is making Arctic sovereignty a more
pressing and consequential issue and strategies are needed for the Arctic s environmental

The Tell Tale Heart Mood
This poem is about the murder of an old man. In The Tell Tale Heart, Edgar Allen Poe uses dark
details, diction, and imagery to convey a haunting mood. The murderer expresses how he killed the
old man and tried to hide his body. The darkness was pierced by a beam of light as the old man was
haunted by the murderer stalking him. In the Tell Tale Heart the author uses dark details to show a
scary and spooky mood. The disease had sharpened my senses not destroyed not dulled them . This
illustrates that he is using negative and dark scary words to show spooky details about the old mans
disease. When I had made an end of these labors, it was four o clock still dark as midnight . This
reveals the this happened very late at night and it gives you a spooky feeling throughout the story. No
doubt I now grew very noel but I talked more fluently and with a heightened voice . This means that
the murderers voice started getting louder and louder to give you a haunting mood. ... Show more

Support The Frightfully Hopeful Future of Technological Singularity Imagine. One day your Doctor
regretfully informs you the person you love the most in your life is tragically going pass away due to
an incurable disease. Instantly, overwhelming feelings of despair and anger burn inside your chest
while graphic scenes of funeral details and goodbyes flood your mind eventually propelling you to the
rhetorical question everyone asks, Is there anything we can do? Then, The Doctor hands you a
pamphlet saying, Have you ever heard of nanotechnology? This Doctor is no Mad Scientist ; in fact,
he is a highly trained professional that has saved several lives with his proposition. What would you
say? This small scale scenario is the perplexing situation the human race will have to face in the near
future. Although some would consider the merger of technology and human biology a completely
crack pot idea, It is this hasty decision of judgment that explains our reaction to fear. This fear
resonates with most of the population globally since it is this very generation that has witnessed the
exponential growth of technology. Physically, psychologically and spiritually, technological
singularity threatens our future and shakes the foundation of morality. However, does this change
bring about negative or positive ramifications? With Technological Singularity s future being so
unpredictable, it would not be wise to ignore its possibilities especially since it was the human race,

Theme Of Selfishness In Fairy Tales
Fairytales often have hidden advice within the story. For example, some illustrate a hidden agenda that
people are willing to do things, even if it is at the cost of others. A masked message is found in the
fairy tale Hansel and Gretel; in Hansel and Gretel the stepmother convinced the father that they should
take their children into the woods and leave them there to fend for themselves in order to have more
food for the stepmother and father, she even says the children must go (144). The stepmother had no
regrets towards leaving the children on their own in the woods to die, as long as it meant she would
have more food to eat. When the father questioned the idea and said he would feel bad doing it the
stepmother responds, You fool! and continues by insisting if they continue to live as a family of four
they will all starve (142). This form of selfishness could result from the fact that the stepmother and
the children do not have a close and loving relationship. The decision of selfishness depends on the
bond with the people who surround you.
Cinderella all the various versions that have been created over the years also illustrates the idea of a
strained relationship that gives results into selfishness. The common theme of each version is ... Show

Administrative controls are to ensure people understand and follow the policies and procedures.
Preventative controls try to stop threats from trying to use a vulnerability to gain access to the network

would be risk mitigation. Viruses and other malware cannot be avoided or transferred to another
business since our computers and network is here in the business for people to utilize. Viruses are also
not an acceptable risk, the damages from viruses will outweigh the money spent to protect the network

within mainland Britain, and in Scotland specifically. The consequence of this resulted in significantly
fewer Irish Catholics having the opportunity of gaining employment in skilled or management

produced a diverse cultural and social milieu on Clydeside, which can be evidenced in dockside
industrial relations of the 1850s. Kenefick s research uncovered the existence, in the 1850s, of the

Two Ulster immigrants Richard McGhee, a Protestant, and Edward McHugh, a Catholic, formed the
National Union of Dock Labour in Glasgow in 1889. Both men had links with and supported Michael
Davitt the Irish republican agrarian campaigner for Home Rule and land reform. McGhee and
McHugh garnered support within the Glasgow docks for the National Union of Dock Labour and in
doing so openly highlighted the combined heritage of both Catholics and Protestants in support of
Irish labour and the struggle for home rule. The Glasgow Harbour Mineral Workers Union was formed
in 1887 for workers in the coal and iron ore docks with a membership made up mainly of Irish
Catholics. The following year it was embroiled in a dispute at the Glasgow docks with Martins (one of
the main companies handling minerals) who, in an attempt to circumvent the issue, advertised for
Protestant only workers in Belfast. In spite of playing the sectarian card, hiring and importing
strikebreaking workers, Martins lost the dispute. Following a period of sustained picketing (fifty
pickets were arrested) the strikebreakers defected, and Martins settled. Reports at the time suggest that
some of the strikebreakers were given money by the Union to pay for their journey back to Belfast,
while others were secured employment in the shipyards. Like the Glasgow Harbour Labourers

The During The Second World War Essay
During the Second World War My grandfather had served in the United States Navy starting in 1944.
During his time in the war he was able to visit many islands that were once being occupied by the
Japanese and could see the remainders of their rule. He was able to see what had happened to the local
people who got caught in the middle of a war that they had no place in and how it affect all of them.
That is what I researched, how the Japanese treated the people that they occupied and what had
happened to the people during the Second World War. Before the start of the war many of the islands
in the pacific had been inhabited by native people, and during the Age of Imperialism many islands
had been taking over by European powers for their natural resources. These islands being just south of
Japan had gained their interest for both economic and strategic reasons and they began to take control
of them in the late 1800 s. Then throughout the war the Japanese had captured many islands during the
war and had moved some ways into China as well. The people who would be used as a labor force and
sometimes the women would become comfort women or sex slaves. It is shown that the way that the
Japanese treated the inhabitants was poor and towards the end of the war when the Americans came in
the Japanese would have the inhabitants actually commit suicide. Japan treated the inhabitants
horribly and some compare it to a Holocaust of their own with other numbers of war crimes. Even

Power Of Music In Sam Cooke s Song, A Change

the 1960 s, until today, music reminds people of where they were when tragedy struck, when their

It was a summer morning and I boarded the bus alone for the first time. I was not on the school bus,

some reason people worry about those intimidating figures on public transportation when they re just

In going forward with the research it is important to understand what Favelas actually are. In the
Encyclopedia Brittanica Jeff Wallenfeldt describes Favelas as, a slum or shantytown located within or
on the outskirts of the country s large cities, especially Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo. A Favela
typically comes into being when squatters occupy vacant land at the edge of a city and construct
shanties of salvaged or stolen materials (Wallenfeldt). At last census count there were 30 plus favelas
in the city of Rio de Janeiro. There is almost 1.4 million people living in the Favelas of Rio (Instituto

work, play environment. Most people own small businesses within the Favela.
It is also important to note the racial makeup of the Favela to better understand who really is living in
the Favela and how or if there is any racial importance to the research. In 2012 a whopping 83% of the
Favela population was of color, indicative of most urban cities racial breakdown (Instituto Brasileiro

Should Sports And The Athletes From A Financial Perspective
To Pay or Not to Pay Athletics have always been a huge part of my life. For as long as I can remember

great opportunities in my life. I played on a state championship football team in high school, I had the

So yes, it is near and dear to my heart. Thus, I pay serious attention to things that often go on in the
world of sports, some that are more important than others. The hot button issue when it comes to
college athletics today is the relationship between the schools and the athletes from a financial

Art as, a component of military art concerned with the theory and practice of planning, preparing,

group (Gaalema 9). The frogs were being trained to see the unconditional stimulus and then know that
it is time to breed upon arrival of the opposite sex frog (Gaalema 9). After the training period, the
experimenter did testing trials to see if the frogs had been conditioned to the stimuli (Gaalema 9). The
training period consisted of both the experimental groups receiving the green LED light (conditional
stimulus) for 90 seconds followed by presentation of opposite sex frogs that remained for five days
instead of 120 seconds (Gaalema 9). The control group testing was identical to that of the
experimental groups but no flashing green LED lights were used in the control group (no conditional
stimulus) (Gaalema 9). Throughout the testing time period, the frogs tank was checked for the
production of eggs twice a day (Gaalema

Compare And Contrast Boy Meet World And Boy Meets World
In Boy Meets World, Cory Matthews says, Someday, Topanga s going to be a mother, and I m going to
be the father. Or, the uncle. Or, the way I m going, the guy down the street with the binoculars. Llittle
did he know that 14 years later he would be teaching his and Topanga s daughter and her friends. The
TV shows Boy Meets World ( BMW ) and Girl Meets World
( GMW ) may seem alike because they have a group of friends going through life together, being
taught life lessons from their teachers, and no matter what happened to the group they always ended
back to each other, but they are actually different because of the gender struggles that they go through,
the different relationship issues, and the time period they grew up in.
One of the biggest differences between both of these shows is one has a male lead and the other has a
female lead. In BMW Cory Matthews is the lead, but in GMW his daughter Riley Matthews takes the
lead. They faced very different problems since they are different genders. For instance, in GMW Riley
has to face the expectation of just being this pretty face. In one of the the episodes, she was paired
with her friend Farkle Minkus to do a science experiment where one partner needs to do the science
part of the whole experiment and the other partner just has to drop a ball into a fluid that was provide
at a certain time after school. When she went to drop the ball with her best friend Maya, she found out
that in her whole class, all the girls were the

The Importance Of Darshan In Puja
The importance of Darshan in Puja
Puja is a Hindu ceremony that centers on the offerings to a deity, this offering aims to earn the deity s
love and gather blessings. This ritual is symbolic, and an individual who performs Puja is offering the
body, soul and all that there possess to the deity to receive what the goddess may have to offer. During
puja, an individual seeks a connection with the goddess through the experience of Darshan. In the
context of darshan, a Murti is an absorption tool in which the deity is seen, and an individual sees god
through that Murti. The ceremony is a personal devotion declaration of love and loyalty to a deity and
establishes direct communication through mind and body.
According to Eck (p.2), the meaning of darshan is religious seeing in which the core mandate of the
individual is to experience the presence of the deity and be seen by the god. While there are prayers
and offerings offered the critical aspect of the ceremony is the worship the image and through the eyes
gain and experienced blessings from the deity (Eck, p.2). Love and loyalty aspects are coined in a
much serious manner, and all the expectations from the deity are not in any way a part of the ritual.
The ceremony of puja is done in homes or a temple in which the icon is bathed, dressed coupled with
offerings, incense, and drums (Flood, p.209). The act of quality of the Puja is dependent on the
intensity, the loyalty of the devotion and purity of the individual performing the

The Doctrine Of Original Sin In Roman Catholic Religion
Doctrines are used as a foundation to Christian beliefs. They serve to many churches as fundamentals
in the direction their members chose to live their lives. It is important to understand the historical
backgrounds of the doctrines that pertain to one s particular beliefs. I will be discussing this very
information for the doctrine of original sin. The doctrine of original sin mostly pertains to the Roman
Catholic religion. I will be covering when, where, and why the doctrine was originated. Original sin is
the theory that every man is born into sin because our mother and father have sinned. The definition
given by the Catholic Encyclopedia is: (1) the sin that Adam committed; (2) a consequence of this first
sin, the hereditary stain ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
So then it is no longer I that do it, but sin which dwells within me. For I know that nothing good
dwells within me, that is, in my flesh. I can will what is right, but I cannot do it. For I do not do the
good I want, but the evil I do not want is what I do. Now if I do what I do not want, it is no longer I
that do it, but sin which dwells within me. So I find it to be a law that when I want to do right, evil lies
close at hand. For I delight in the law of God, in my inmost self, but I see in my members another law
at war with the law of my mind and making me captive to the law of sin which dwells in my members.
Wretched man that I am! Who will deliver me from this body of death? (Romans 7:15 24) The
solution to this problem is stated by Paul in these terms: For God has done what the law, weakened by
the flesh, could not do: sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh and for sin, he condemned
sin in the flesh, in order that the just requirement of the law might be fulfilled in us, who walk not
according to the flesh but according to the Spirit. (Romans 8:3 4) Though the New Testament doctrine
of original sin is most clearly expressed by Paul, it is also implicit in the teachings of Jesus: for
example in such words as: And Jesus said to him, Why do you call me good? No one is good but God
alone. (Mark 10:18) and I am the vine, you are the branches. He who abides in me, and I in him, he it
is that bears much fruit, for

Reflecting On Impact Of Iron
Reflecting on impact of Iron
Iron is part of the most found elements in the earth. Around 5.6% of the earth s crust has been
composed of it, and almost the entire core of the earth. In addition, Iron has been discovered about
5000 years ago, and the name comes from the Scandinavian word iarn . [1]
For this essay, my task is to describe the impact of Iron on society. Furthermore, I will research about
the chemical and physical properties of Iron, the obtaining of Iron, and the uses through history and
lastly I will compare the metal with the metals that were used beforehand, and what impact the
discovery had on society. For this essay, my research question is: How has the discovery of Iron
affected the society? In my opinion the discovery of Iron didn t have such a great affection for the
society and how they handled, because the people only changed from bronze to another like metal.
Everything they could do before, could be done with the Iron too. ... Show more content on

Iron is a bright and shiny white metal that is strong, ductile, malleable and soft. The color of the
surface of Iron is regularly affected by corrosion, as it easily rusts because it easily combines with the
oxygen in the air when moisture is present, but in absolute dry air, the Iron doesn t rust. [3] The metal
is ductile, because it can easily be stretched or pulled into a thin line/wire. Iron is malleable, because it
is possible to be bent and shaped. Iron can also be easily magnetized. The metal is likewise a very
good conductor of electricity and heat. [4] At room temperature the metal is solid, the melting point is
1535.1 oC, and the boiling point is 3000oC.

MRC is as method of diversity combining. MRC multiplied the all branches signal. MRC amplified
higher amplitude signal but shrink the low amplitude signals. It is also add the signal from each
channel and gain of each channel is made directly proportional to the RMS signal value and inversely
proportional to the mean square noise value in that channel. Each channel is different. It is known as
RSC (ratio squared combining) and PC (prediction combining). MRC is also known as optimum
combiner and it is independent of AWGN channels. It can achieved high bit error rate when MRC is
used in multi input multi output receiver. The least square solution in this case is also known as
maximal ratio combining. In the case of two antennas the least square solution can be written as

was dispatched to Corbin Education in regards to a Suspicious Character. Dispatch advised there
would be an indivudal sitting on the steps on the east side of Corbin. The reporting party gave a
description as an unknown male or female, with a black hoodie, and pants on. I arrived in the area at
2325 hours. When I was pulling into the lot a female came up to my patrol car. I asked her if she was
the one who called and she said yes. I asked her where the suspicious person was and she pointed to

Autistic Spectrum Disorder
Autistic spectrum disorder, otherwise known as autism, is a complex disorder of the central nervous
system and a developmental disability that comes from a neurological disorder that affects the normal
functioning of the brain. (Dowshen, 2008). It is not something one can catch or pass along to someone
else. It makes interacting with other people incredibly difficult. Autism was first identified in 1943 by
Dr. Leo Kanner of Johns Hopkins Hospital. Autism spectrum disorder can usually be reliably
diagnosed by age 3, however new research is pushing back the age of diagnosis to as early as six
months. Autism is a developmental disorder that makes it very difficult for one to communicate with
others and live a normal life. (What is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A very good amount of autistic children have very bad tempers. As a result, numerous parents end up
quitting their jobs to care for their autistic child. (Packard, 2009). Many people with autism also have
other disorders of the central nervous system, such as developmental disabilities, epilepsy, or
schizophrenia. However, not all children with autism are severely impacted. Autism persists through a
person s lifetime, although many people are able to learn to control and modify their behavior to some
extent. Some people are affected fairly mildly; several of these individuals learn to live independent
lives. Others more severely affected, require lifelong care and supervision. (Dowshen, 2008). Most
families of autistic children also learn to get support from their parents and other children with autism.
Some children with mild autism will grow up and be able to live on their own. Those with problems
that are more serious will always need some kind of help, but all kids with autism have brighter
futures when they have support and understanding from their doctors, teachers, caregivers, parents,
brothers, sisters, and friends. (Dowshen, 2008). At this point in time there is no cure for autism, but
doctors, therapists, and special teachers can help kids with autism overcome or adjust to many
difficulties they have to face. The earlier a child starts treatment for autism, the better because the best
results are

Prenatal Diagnostic Tests and the Social, Legal, and Ethical Implications
Introduction
Jackie and Michael are expecting their first baby. Jackie is 32 years old and is in good health. She is
15 weeks pregnant and wants to do everything possible to ensure a healthy baby. Even though they do
not have risk factors within their families, she and Michael decide to have an amniocentesis.
The results indicate that their baby is a female with Turner Syndrome. This condition is caused by a
missing X chromosome and results in short stature, ovarian failure, and medical problems involving
the heart, thyroid glands, and kidneys. Some of these conditions can be treated and managed with
great success. The question that arises after diagnoses ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This information relieves a lot of parental anxiety and unfulfilled expectations of an impaired child.
People who may be especially interested and advised for testing might include couples with a family
history of genetic disease, those that might have a birth defect, pregnant women over the age of 34,
couples who already have a child with a genetic disorder, and couples concerned about specific
disorders that occur more frequently within their ethnic group (March of Dimes 1997).
Techniques
Currently, there are four prenatal diagnosis techniques used. The first, and safest method, is an
ultrasound. It is noninvasive and can assess and evaluate gestational age, fetal position, growth,
development, and any structural birth defects. When performed by highly skilled operators,
abnormalities can be detected with as high as 90% accuracy (IOM 1994).
The next technique routinely performed for prenatal diagnosis is amniocentesis. A long needle is
inserted into the mother s uterus to withdraw a sample of amniotic fluid containing cells shed by the
fetus. The cells are cultured and analyzed for chromosome abnormalities. Despite the lengthy time in
obtaining results because the cells need to be cultured, this method has become widely accepted as a
safe and accurate way to determine genetic disorders.
Chorionic Villus Sampling (CVS) is yet another technique that can be performed very early on in
gestation between 9 and 12 weeks. A

  • 2. Similarities Between La Belle Dame Sans Merci And Annabel Lee Love in Poe s Annabel Lee and Keats s La Belle Dame sans Merci Poe s Annabel Lee and Keats s La Belle Dame sans Merci depict the destructive effects that women exercise upon men. In both poems, women, by death and deception, harm their adoring lovers. In Annabel Lee, Annabel dies and leaves the speaker in isolation; in La Belle Dame Sans Merci, the fairy, La Belle Dame, captures the speaker s heart, and then deserts him. The common theme of both poems, that love generates harmful effects, is a reflection of both poets upsetting and harmful childhood experiences. Poetry, Keats purports, comes from the ferment of an unhappy childhood working through a noble imagination (Keats 16). The lesson of [Keat s] ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He creates an aroma of sex in pacing steed, which might be an innocent horse ride, but is possibly a sexual metaphor (the speaker being the steed.) The repetition of wild eyes is a sexual euphemism, furthering the sexual nature of love expressed within the poem. Even the knight s last memory of the fairy is of a sexual nature; the knight receives kisses four, afterwards the fairy lulls him to sleep. Keats s love is relatively more tenuous than Poe s, because the fairy s love is unpredictable, and bizarre ( In language strange she said / I love thee true ). This love is also destructive, as warned by the dead men in the last stanza with their horrid warning that La Belle Dame/ Thee hath in thrall! Poe and Keats employ the their speakers painful experiences with love as examples of love s ruinous consequences. La Belle Dame sans Merci and Annabel Lee develop their characters with attention to details, so that the impact of the characters experiences are more intense and vivid.. In Annabel Lee, the speaker calls Annabel a maiden, starting the poem with virtuous connotations. The reader learns that Annabel is from high birth through reference to her as a highborn kinsmen, and her grave as a sepulchre. Annabel s wealthy birthright generates the ... • 3. Similarities Between The Male Lion And The Queen Of The... King of the Jungle or Queen of the Jungle? The male lion is known to be the king of the jungle, but is he the one in charge? It is common in many animal species that the female is the dominant sex. It is also common for the female to be deadlier than the male. The female could contain more venom or the female could be more adept to kill than the male. An example of the female being deadlier is lions. The lioness does more hunting than the male and is said to be deadlier. Hickens posed the question in his essay what makes the female deadlier than the male in reference to humans. When comparing the lioness to the human female, one would find numerous similarities. Considering the nickname of the lioness as the Queen of the Jungle, the female human could be dubbed Queen of the Countryside. The deadly lioness shares many of the same characteristics with the female human. The lioness differs physically from that of the male lion, much in the way that a female human being differs from a male. The female lion is typically smaller and has less muscle. While the male lion is typically ten feet long, the female is usually only nine feet long. However, both of the lions are only about four feet tall on all four legs. Another main difference between the lions is that the male possesses a flowing mane and the female does not. While the female and male lion look different, the typical female and male human look different as well. The typical female human has physical traits that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Emotional Analysis Of The Old Spice Scent Vacation... We all know a person who looks very confident and put together on the outside, but a conversation with them reveals that much is lacking in their personality. Similarly, commercials can appear fun or exciting, but upon further inspection it is greatly lacking in depth. Because of this, creating commercials is a balance between providing information and keeping the viewers engaged. The process isn t simply writing a script containing only style and no substance, or one with only substance and no style. With the former, a commercial could capture the audience s attention, but provides no supporting information; the latter, provides an excessive amount of information, but does not seize the viewers. Creating commercials pines for the utmost balance; if the balance is off by a fraction, it could mean the difference between a million dollars or zero. The Old Spice Scent Vacation commercial sits atop the pinnacle of this balance. It was made to advertise their new collection of scents ranging from the scenic beaches of Fiji to the snowy peak of Denali (Mt. McKinley). The commercial illustrates this balance through the use of emotional appeals, imagery, and appeals to authority and credibility to convince people of the outlandish benefits of switching to Old Spice, in terms of confidence and sexual appeal. Old Spice s use of appealing to certain emotions carries strong effects in this commercial. It evokes a multitude of feelings, anywhere from anger to lust to joy. The commercial ... • 5. Nude Photographs Censorship The relative immaturity of today s world has caused a great deal of calamity over certain issues. As an example, one main conflict has arisen between the general public of today and an artistic form that truly depicts the human body. This problem has arisen in museums of today, which by definitions are locations where objects of historical, scientific, artistic, or cultural importance are displayed. Nude photographs are appropriate, if not necessary in most museums of today because of their relative significance to our own backgrounds. Without going into too much detail, every facet of each human is different from that of another and neglecting that difference would be ignoring the artform that is the body. Due to the immaturity of today s ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... All forms of censorship seek to hide something from viewers, whether it be blurring nudity on television or excluding it from places of learning where it is studied and observed, museums. Nudity is appropriate in museums to the public, however, in some cases, it has been entirely censored. Several lawsuits have ensued and in some cases, the museums have won, and in others the cases have been dismissed at an early stage. Facebook even blocked the French art museum, the Jeu de Paume, for twenty four hours after it posted a nude photo that would come to be displayed. Freedom of expression is very real, and to censor this pivotal right by not allowing the showcasing of nudity in museums is technically a crime. Artists have the right to express themselves. Curators have the right to choose the expression they think matters most. And the rest of us have the right to see that expression, and judge those choices for ourselves. If anyone s offended by any work in any museum, they have the easiest redress: They can vote with their feet, and avoid the art they don t like (Gopnik 1). This quote taken from a Washington Post article puts the entire argument into perspective. It is the right of museums to showcase what they deem is of value and it not up to the general public to advocate for its removal. As long as the curator of any given museum deems a piece worthy for the general public, then it most definitely should be shown. It is hard for some to realize the difference between the seemingly pornographic and artistic. Yet, museums make the distinction and only house educational pieces, eliminating all of non historical, non scientific, non cultural, and non artistic significance. Nude photographs are appropriate in museums because of their educational ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Outcasts Of Poker Flat Total Opposites In the short story The Outcasts of Poker Flat by Bret Harte, the author uses characters in the story that have very similar characteristics, except for one, Uncle Billy. John Oakhurst is a big time gambler in Poker Flat. He took large sums of money from many people in town. The residents of Poker Flat were very upset with him always winning bets and all of their money. Out of all the people that are banned from Poker Flat, Oakhurst possesses the best qualities out of the group. The people of the town were attempting to clean up Poker Flat, but they really only rid themselves of one thief and three good hearted people that had some bad breaks. Being a prostitute, The Duchess did not have a chance to learn about the men that she was pleasuring. The men that she was with were purely there for business and no relationships could ever take form. This may be the same type of awakening that Oakhurst had when he left from Poker Flat. Being a gambler by trait, he was often all alone with nobody to rely on besides himself and the cards. He referred to everything as if it were a card game. Oakhurst realizes that the way to survive is by caring for the others, and having them do the same for him. In Mother Shipton s words this Oakhurst was so different that he didn t say cards once during the evening, (Harte 610). The Duchess and Oakhurst both experienced an awakening upon leaving Poker Flat. Mother Shipton is another madam from Poker Flat that is being exiled. She takes on the role of the Mother figure to Piney and The Duchess. At the beginning of the journey Mother Shipton is very loud and bitter towards the world. She would often use bad language and at one point expressed a desire to cut somebody s heart out (Harte 608). But by the end of the story, Mother Shipton has softened up and shows consideration towards members of the group that was never thought possible. How to Teach Reported Speech Review Practice Lesson plan Teaching students reported or indirect speech can be complicated by the all the changes that are required when moving from direct speech into reported speech. First off, students should understand that reported speech is quite useful in conversational English as relating what someone has said using quote and unquote is awkward at best. A further aspect of reported speech is encouraging students to use other reporting verbs beyond say and tell . Introducing Reported Speech Start with Tenses I find it best to start off with simple examples in which changes are only made in tense. There are a number of other reporting verbs which can more accurately describe what someone has said. These verbs take a variety of structures. I will be discussing the key issues and challenges, which students may experience within their transitions and how they will be able to deal with the difficulties they may have during their first year of university, in addition to this there are strategies and actions they can take in order for their transition to be effective. The experience students have can all vary on different students individual perspectives. This could all determine on the kind of students that will be studying at the university, firstly you have students who will be studying within their region or those who decides to move abroad to study which are known as international students. When students transition to university, there are many challenges and issues that students will encounter. Briggs, A., Clark, J, and Hall, I, (2012, p2) mentions in his article a significant social displacement, which may be intensified where the student is mature, is the first in their family to attend university . • 11. Individual Research Process and Terminology Paper Raven Jones John Dosdall July 17, 2012 New Terminology in Criminal Justice We use research methods in our every day life and not even know it. Research methods play a very important part in the life of someone who is in the criminology field. Without some of the research methods that we have, many cases would never get solved, and they would be in the cold case files. In this paper, I will discuss new terminology and how it helps one who is in the criminology field. I think since I am in the field of criminology, that knowing all these terms will help me be an asset over someone who does not know what they are. Knowing a different language of research will also help me with researching things from homicide to burglary. If I were going to hire someone to be on my police force, and I had two people to choose from. I would most definitely pick the person who knew more about the force and what goes on inside the force over someone who did not. People do not think that Jargon is something very important to know, but in all reality it is very important. Jargon in any field helps the people in that field know what is going on without letting other people who aren t suppose to know. It is almost like it is a secret code and you had to be initiated in to know what is going on. I believe that knowing the language of research is one of the most important methods in criminal justice or criminology that a person can know. • 12. The Critique Of The Milgram Experiment A particular experiment that I found intriguing so far in this class was The Milgram Experiment, which was conducted by psychologist Stanley Milgram in 1963. The whole experiment was based around obedience, particularly the conflict between obedience as related to authority and a person s inner conscience (McLeod). Milgram got the idea for the study after the Nuremburg War Criminals trial since many of the ones that were being tried claimed to just be following orders from a higher authority (McLeod). This famous experiment took place soon after the trial of Adolf Eichmann which left Milgram with the question, Could it be that Eichmann and his million accomplices in the Holocaust were just following order? Could we call them Accomplices? People that took part in this experiment were males where one was the learner and the other was the teacher. However, what the participants did not know was that the learner was actually a confederate, or a person that is directly involved in the experiment, that way the other person was always the teacher. The two were in separate rooms, with the teacher s room containing a researcher and an electric shock generator and the switches which ranged from 15 volts to 450 volts which was deadly. As the experiment began the learner was strapped to a chair where they then hooked electrodes to him. He was then given a list of paired words and was told to memorize them, the teacher then tested him by naming one of the words in the pair ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

While these variations exist, its basic definition is unvarying. The soul can be described as the ultimate internal principle by which we think, feel, and will, and by which our bodies are animated. The soul is seen as the core principle of life or as the essence of a being 1. Views on the permanence of the soul vary throughout religious tradition as well. Hinduism believes that realizing the soul is the embodiment of Brahman is essential to being released from the cycle of rebirth, Samsara. Hindus understand that the soul, atman, is permanent and only inhabits a physical shell which dies and passes the soul on to the next mortal shell, which can be better or worse than the previous depending on karma. With that said, Hindus believe in rebirth until one realizes the ultimate divine at which point they would be free from the punarjanma, the transmigration of the soul, liberating their souls to achieve moksha. Buddhism, on the other hand, challenges Atman with the belief in Anatman, which is non self. Buddhists believe that the world is constantly changing, nullifying the concept of the permanent soul, Atman. There is no reason the soul remains unchanged in a perpetually changing environment. Anatman is the idea of no permanent soul 3. A common misconception is that Anatman means people have no soul. In reality it describes the constant change of the soul during its time on earth. Buddhism holds that while there is no soul, the five elements that make up an individual orient themselves to form a new individual. With each cycle of rebirth, these aggregates, which include mind, consciousness, body, impulse, and feeling, will combine differently to form distinct individuals 4. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Researchers believe that this difference is the result of preemptive habitat destruction by private landowners responding to the risk of regulatory requirements, also known as shoot, shovel, and shut up (Wilcove et al., 1996). They state that, landowners are afraid that if they take actions that attract new endangered species to their land or increase the populations of the endangered species that are already there, their reward for doing so will be more regulatory restrictions on the use of their property (Wilcove et al., 1996). The probability that the Fish and Wildlife Service will detect a species significantly increases the level of habitat destruction by private landowners, indicating that a fear of regulation is the motivation for this behavior. One frequently referenced case involves Ben Cone, a disgruntled landowner from North Carolina who faced heavy land use restrictions resulting from the presence of 12 Red Cockaded Woodpecker colonies on his property. The Red Cockaded Woodpecker, or Leuconotopicus borealis, was very populous in the sandhills region of North Carolina for hundreds of years, inhabiting cavities in mature longleaf pine forests (Walters, 1991). • 20. Civil Liberties And Civil Rights Throughout history, society has pushed the envelope with civil liberties and civil rights by tackling Supreme Court decisions. The attempts to manipulate civil rights and civil liberties occurred without a clear understanding of neither of the two. While civil rights and civil liberties regulate collective action, they differ by providing freedoms from the government and by providing freedoms to act; their shift in history has been denoted by racial and gender discrimination, nationalization, and rights of the accused. Civil liberties, as denoted in the Bill of Rights, had limited the government s actions by providing freedoms from the government. Because the government could not take away the people s rights, the Bill of Rights listed thou shalt nots, which limit[ed] its [the government s] jurisdiction (Lowi pg. 107). A famous substantive limitation, or a restriction against what Congress could do, was, and is, the establishment clause, or the separation between Church and State. As the first component of the First Amendment, the establishment clause impedes the government s ability from establishing a national Church; consequently, due to religious persecution in England in the 1700 s, the establishment clause serves to protect the citizens from the possible tyranny of religion by permitting the accommodation of all religions through assistance and by not allowing the government to show no favoritism . Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... When humans cognitively process faces this involves either holistic processing or configural processing. There is evidence that the processing of faces is done much more holistically than with objects as this comes from studies of inversion (Yin, 1969). An inverted face impairs the recognition and is much more difficult to encode than with other objects and this could be due to the spatial relations. In facial recognition a face model was created by Bruce and Young in 1986 and is one of the most influential face models to be created and is still used. It comprises of eight components: structural encoding, expression analysis, facial speech analysis, directed visual processing, face recognition nodes, person identity nodes, name generation and cognitive system. According to their face recognition model various types of information are acquired from faces. When recognising a familiar face, the components used depend largely on structural encoding, face recognition units, person identity nodes and name generation. In comparison with an unfamiliar face, the components used depend largely on structural encoding, expression analysis, facial speech analysis and directed visual processing. I played on a state championship football team in high school, I had the opportunity to play college football, and I formed relationships that will no doubt last me a lifetime. So yes, it is near and dear to my heart. Thus, I pay serious attention to things that often go on in the world of sports, some that are more important than others. The hot button issue when it comes to college athletics today is the relationship between the schools and the athletes from a financial perspective. When I first started hearing about it, I can honestly say that I did not know too much about the subject. There are a lot of economics and business concepts and terms that were a foreign language to me. As I continued to research, I became fascinated with both sides of this issue which have credible arguments. On one side of it, there are pundits who will be the first to say we should not pay these athletes for a myriad of reasons that I will go into as I progress. The other side says that the current system is nothing short of exploitation on the highest level that these athletes are not being properly compensated for what they endure day in and day out. This is a delicate issue that is becoming more and more of a focal point throughout the country. The myth ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

As described the endocrine system is a series of glands that work throughout the body to help you function properly. To become an endocrinologist is a long process taking up to 10 years of education. They then have the ability to treat and diagnose a hormone imbalance or problem in the endocrine organs such as thyroid, pituitary, testes, ovaries, pancreas, and adrenals. Some conditions treated by an endocrinologist include cancers of the endocrine system, cholesterol disorders, hypertension, diabetes, growth problems, metabolic disorders and infertility problems. Most are common only around 5% coming to be cancerous. Most times when a person has a thyroid nodule they have no symptoms. If the nodule is causing your glands to make too many hormones it can cause what is called hyperthyroidism. Symptoms of this include palpitations, rapid heart rate, anxiety, restlessness and an increased appetite. If your doctor suspects thyroid nodules they will do tests such as an ultrasound or a thyroid scan. A good example of a procedure done by an endocrinologist is an LHRH test. This test is done to see how your pituitary gland is working when it comes to regulating sex hormone production. The night of this procedure you are to not eat or drink anything. When you go in, you will be made comfortable and have a small needle inserted into a vein in your hand or arm. This is just to get a blood sample and is not to stay. Whoever is taking the blood will use a needle such as a ventflon to make drawing the blood sample easy with little to no discomfort. The blood is then checked for hormones LH and LSH then you get an injection to make the levels of those hormones rise. You will have blood drawn twice. Once each after 30 ... Joint Operational Warfare According to Milan Vego in, Joint Operational Warfare: Theory and Practice, he defined Operational Art as, a component of military art concerned with the theory and practice of planning, preparing, conducting, and sustaining campaigns and major operations aimed at accomplishing strategic or operational objectives in a given theater. (p. I 4) Even though I am not in the business of defining the term Operational Art, I would still suggest amongst all of the various definitions that I have read this one definition by Vego appears to be practicable and serves its purpose well. For any military action, there must be planning, sustaining, executing of a mission such that theater objectives are met. Gaalema performed the experiment Sexual Conditioning in the Dyeing Poison Dart Frog to increase the rate of reproduction among these endangered frogs. 38 dart frogs including 19 males and 19 females were put into pairs and separated into three different groups (Gaalema 8). The three groups included a control group that received no conditioning, an experimental group that received an active control conditioning, and another experimental group that received experimental conditioning (Gaalema 8). In the experimental condition, a green LED light would flash for approximately 90 second intervals followed by a 120 second interval of interaction between the opposite sex paired frogs (Gaalema 9). The LED lights were used as a conditional stimulus and the presentation of the opposite sex frog was used as an unconditional stimulus (Gaalema 9). The active control group was not consistently exposed to the green LED light and the opposite sex frogs, as was the experimental group (Gaalema 9). The frogs were being trained to see the unconditional stimulus and then know that it is time to breed upon arrival of the opposite sex frog (Gaalema 9). After the training period, the experimenter did testing trials to see if the frogs had been conditioned to the stimuli (Gaalema 9). The training period consisted of both the experimental groups receiving the green LED light (conditional stimulus) for 90 seconds followed by presentation of opposite sex frogs that remained for five days instead of 120 seconds (Gaalema 9). • 41. The Importance Of Darshan In Puja The importance of Darshan in Puja Puja is a Hindu ceremony that centers on the offerings to a deity, this offering aims to earn the deity s love and gather blessings. This ritual is symbolic, and an individual who performs Puja is offering the body, soul and all that there possess to the deity to receive what the goddess may have to offer. During puja, an individual seeks a connection with the goddess through the experience of Darshan. In the context of darshan, a Murti is an absorption tool in which the deity is seen, and an individual sees god through that Murti. The ceremony is a personal devotion declaration of love and loyalty to a deity and establishes direct communication through mind and body. According to Eck (p.2), the meaning of darshan is religious seeing in which the core mandate of the individual is to experience the presence of the deity and be seen by the god. While there are prayers and offerings offered the critical aspect of the ceremony is the worship the image and through the eyes gain and experienced blessings from the deity (Eck, p.2). Love and loyalty aspects are coined in a much serious manner, and all the expectations from the deity are not in any way a part of the ritual. The ceremony of puja is done in homes or a temple in which the icon is bathed, dressed coupled with offerings, incense, and drums (Flood, p.209). They serve to many churches as fundamentals in the direction their members chose to live their lives. So then it is no longer I that do it, but sin which dwells within me. For I know that nothing good dwells within me, that is, in my flesh. I can will what is right, but I cannot do it. For I do not do the good I want, but the evil I do not want is what I do. Now if I do what I do not want, it is no longer I that do it, but sin which dwells within me. So I find it to be a law that when I want to do right, evil lies close at hand. For I delight in the law of God, in my inmost self, but I see in my members another law at war with the law of my mind and making me captive to the law of sin which dwells in my members. Wretched man that I am! Who will deliver me from this body of death? (Romans 7:15 24) The solution to this problem is stated by Paul in these terms: For God has done what the law, weakened by the flesh, could not do: sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh and for sin, he condemned sin in the flesh, in order that the just requirement of the law might be fulfilled in us, who walk not according to the flesh but according to the Spirit. (Romans 8:3 4) Though the New Testament doctrine of original sin is most clearly expressed by Paul, it is also implicit in the teachings of Jesus: for example in such words as: And Jesus said to him, Why do you call me good? No one is good but God alone. (Mark 10:18) and I am the vine, you are the branches. He who abides in me, and I in him, he it is that bears much fruit, for ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

However, not all children with autism are severely impacted. Autism persists through a person s lifetime, although many people are able to learn to control and modify their behavior to some extent. Some people are affected fairly mildly; several of these individuals learn to live independent lives. Others more severely affected, require lifelong care and supervision. (Dowshen, 2008). Techniques Currently, there are four prenatal diagnosis techniques used. The first, and safest method, is an ultrasound. It is noninvasive and can assess and evaluate gestational age, fetal position, growth, development, and any structural birth defects. When performed by highly skilled operators, abnormalities can be detected with as high as 90% accuracy (IOM 1994). The next technique routinely performed for prenatal diagnosis is amniocentesis. A long needle is inserted into the mother s uterus to withdraw a sample of amniotic fluid containing cells shed by the fetus. The cells are cultured and analyzed for chromosome abnormalities. Despite the lengthy time in obtaining results because the cells need to be cultured, this method has become widely accepted as a safe and accurate way to determine genetic disorders.
