The Community Mental Health Centers Act Of 1963 Closed...
Many years ago, mental illness was viewed as a demonic possession or a religious punishment. In
the 18th century, the attitudes towards mental illness were negative and persistent. This negativity
leads to the stigmatization and confinement of those who were mentally ill. The mentally ill were
sent to mental hospitals that were unhealthy and dangerous. A push in the mid 1950s for
deinstitutionalization began because of activists lobbying for change. Dorothea Dix was one of
these activists that helped push for change. The change called for more community oriented care
rather than asylum based care. The Community Mental Health Centers Act of 1963 closed state
psychiatric hospitals throughout the United States. Only individuals who posed an imminent
danger to themselves or someone else could be committed to state psychiatric hospitals (A Brief
History of Mental Illness and the U.S. Mental Health Care System). Deinstitutionalization meant to
improve quality of life and treatment for those who are mentally ill. This would hopefully result in
the mentally ill receiving treatment so they could live more independently. The hope was that
community mental health programs would provide this treatment but sadly there was not sufficient
or ongoing funding to meet the growing demand for these programs. Budgets for mental hospitals
were reduced but there was no increase for the community based programs. Many mentally ill
individuals have been moved to nursing homes or other residential

Blow In Hamlet
Shakespeare s Hamlet is one of the greatest tragedies of all. The character of Hamlet is one who
has deeply rooted conflicts, that come into the light. From start to finish, one can see Hamlet s
mind warp. Throughout the play, Hamlet is manipulated, lied to, and driven insane. He is the
victim at the end. Hamletwants to avenge his father because his uncle killed him. However, the
world around Hamlet is falling apart and he is only doing his best to right all the wrongs he can.
His judgment may be clouded, but there are still bouts of sense from him throughout the play.
Shakespeare strategically plays off of the language, mainly with the word: seems . He uses this
word to show the multifaceted ways of the characters. In Hamlet, nothing is true as it seems to be.

mother to push Ophelia even farther. Hamlet s distancing can be seen as another form of
protecting people from his insanity. By using Ophelia as a pawn, the King, Queen, and Polonius

strings of the other characters. He is manipulative and uses his power to make sure he can get
information about Hamlet. He doesn t try to care for him as a father does, but instead, he spies on

What Is The Ugly Duck Essay
Just like the stream eager to rush into the ocean, whatever the difficulties they may meet, we human
beings always want to go up higher and everyone wants to find their own ocean even though they
might have terrible conditions or in a horrible surrounding.
Everyone has a dream, as we all known, we should make efforts to make it, I believe that all of
us know the story about the ugly duck. She was discriminated by her siblings even his mother, just
duo to her ugly appearance. Her companions all caught up with her and they always laughed at her.
Worse more, even her mother beat her for no reason. In this situation, however, the duck was tough
enough. She just tried her best to fly so that she could get rid of the discrimination by her
companions or maltreat from her mother. She did not lose the faith for life even though she was so

In our society, more and more people make enough money and parents always offer their
children everything they need. Particularly in china, parents will prepare something, such as a
big house, a car or even a big company for their children ahead of time so that their children
cannot spare much energy to possess them. However, their children, in such a good condition, is
always too lazy to do anything they should do and they might do the things not better than others
because they don t undergo much misfortune or the worst hazards of life. For example, the
famous movie star, Jacky Chan. Maybe he is very successful and perfect that he has made so
much money and possessed a bright life, but his son Fang Zuming is reported that he took drugs.
Having such a wealthy father, he doesn t cherish, he spends money like water and uses the money

The Death Of William Shakespeare s Romeo And Juliet
David was not the only artist to be fascinated and inspired by historic suicides. Suicide is not an
uncommon subject of paintings, or any of the arts for that matter. On the contrary, suicide can be
glorified to a certain extent, in the way that a novel or film can romanticize the act without the
brutality or consequences being addressed. Suicidecan appear heroic in the face of a evil. It can
appear to be a triumphant escape from a cruel world. Suicide can even look romantic when
portrayed as the conclusion to a love story, like in Romeo and Juliet, a masterpiece by the beloved
William Shakespeare. Death itself is dramatic, but there is something more to beyond the gruesome
or romantic aspects of death, particularly when it comes to suicide. The Death of Socratesmanages
to grip the viewer with its dramatic climax to death, yet saying something more with it s imagery.
The Death of Socrates effortlessly channels utter despair, and yet, unwavering defiance. The
painting comprises of the moments just before Socrates ends his own life (Metropolitan Museum
of Art). His followers sit beside him weeping in horror as Socrates prepares to die. Socrates
himself holds his left hand high up, finger in the air in staunch defiance, all while his right hand
hovers over the cup of Hemlock. The sunlight beams through a window in the upper left hand
corner, gazing down on the scene about to unravel. The man handing Socrates the Hemlock looks
away in shame or fear as he hands the poison

Overtime Character Analysis
Many people in life do not sit and think about the consequences that would be the outcome of
their actions. Upon approaching this show, people would see that it is just another superhero
show where the hero beats the bad guy. In a sense, it is that kind of show, but the show is more
than those stereotypical hero stories. Throughout Arrow, the protagonist Oliver Queen has
problem accepting for what he has become. Overtime, Oliver was forced to live a rough life
because he found himself trapped on an island; his rough experience of trying to survive changed
him into a type of person who would easily kill a person without a second thought. It conflicted
with his lifestyle once he was able to return home because he was trying to play two roles.... Show

Throughout the show, Oliver decides to plays the roles of investigator, interrogator, judge, jury,
and executioner (Beard). He decides whether or not a man gets to see the end of the day. For
example, during an ultimatum that forced Oliver to decide between the lives of two people, he
chose to save the person who was closer to him. This resulted into an upbringing of an enemy
named Slade. Slade wanted to get revenge and try to kill Oliver loved ones as a duty towards the
other person. Slade then forced to choose between the life between his mother or sister. In
society, nobody should decide who should live or die. The reason for that is because it creates
bias and it the creates a problem. If one were to choose one, then the other would die and they
people would cry for the dead. People do not realize that their actions to judge one could affect not
just the person, but the people around

There were many flaws in corporate governance of the Healthsouth and some of them were very
obvious that makes one question that how could they have been missed. Healthsouth clearly lacked
proper internal controls as employees failed to abide by the laws and principle. It goes to show that
the internal controls procedures and policies are not effective enough to provide reasonable
assurance of the reliable financial statements. It implies that the internal auditors failed to execute
their duties and responsibilities. The fact that accounting personal and managementheld meetings to

What Are The Benefits Of Yoga Essay
While you can practice yoga anytime, many people like to practice right after they wake up and
before they go to bed. If you prefer to only practice in a classroom setting, then you must wait
until class is in session. Having a yoga session first thing in the morning is a great way to wake up
your body and to set your intentions for the day. Even if you only have 20 minutes to set aside
before rushing off to work or to get the kids ready for their day, you will be better prepared for the
day.
Ideally you want to include a yoga session in the evening before you go to bed. It will help you to

Essay on Curling and Team
Curling is a precision team sport similar to bowls or bocce, played on a rectangular sheet of
prepared ice by two teams of four players each, using heavy polished granite stones which players
slide down the ice towards a target area called the house. Points are scored for the number of stones
that a team has closer to the centre of the target than the closest of the other team s stones.
The game is thought to have been invented in late medieval Scotland, with the first written
reference to a contest using stones on ice coming from the records of Paisley Abbey, Renfrew, in
February 1541.
In the early history of curling, the rocks were simply flat bottomed river stones which were
sometimes notched or shape; the thrower had little ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In general the sweepers are responsible for instructing the skip in regards to the weight, or speed of
the rock, and the skip and the thrower instruct regarding aim. Teams confer between throws to
determine where they will attempt to place the next rock.
The process of throwing a rock is known as the delivery. While not mandatory, most curlers
deliver the rock from sliding out from the hack. When sliding out, one must start with one shoe
(the one with the non slippery sole) against one of the hacks . For a right handed curler, this means
starting from the left hack, and vice versa for a left handed curler.
When delivering the rock, it is important to remember that the momentum behind how much
weight is applied to the rock depends on how much leg drive the delivery has. It is usually not
wise to push the rock with the arm, unless absolutely necessary. When in the hack, one must
crouch down with the body lined up and shoulders square with the skip s broom at the other end.
While in the hack, one may hold a broom out for balance. Different curlers hold their broom out
in many different fashions. The broom is held in the hand opposite from the rock, and should be
positioned so that the non sweeping side of the broom is against the ice. This prevents drag which
would be caused by the soft head of the broom dragging against the ice.
Before any delivery, it is important to

are lots of ways to speed up downloads but also several pitfalls you should avoid in your quest to

If all the devices connected to your network are ones that should be allowed web access, either

that time.
If you don t want the kids watching YouTube videos at all or only at certain times of the day,
give their laptops a password protected, Standard or Limited user account and use the settings

you can make sure their computers are set to allow web access only until, say, 10pm and start your
download after that. To change your broadband connections bandwidth priority, go to the settings
menu for your router and locate QoS. Move Skype calls, instant messaging, online gaming and
other bandwidth heavy tasks down the list and promote downloads. Check how long a download

Colonial New England Ideologies And Religious Beliefs
Colonial New England ideologies were strictly religious in their puritan beliefs. Clergymen were
highly educated and forced religious practices in the name of being righteous and holy.
Conformity to religion was not considered a rational choice to those that were forced unto
American soil and forced to live a way of life so different than their own. Enslaved Africans
brought with them their own religious, marriage and funeral, and medicinal practices. These
practices prompted radical puritans to fear these religious traditions that were so unlike their own,
condemning blacks and the various ways they expressed hope in oppression. McMillan states, As

Creating original covert religious rituals and theologies. Many of the bewitching practices that
have been historically accurate refer to Caribbean religious practices and Haitian voodoo, which
is still prevalent in society today. Religious traditions associated with these general regions
include celebration of marriage and funerals, for example, parading the streets with livelihood to
properly bury a loved one. Today this is referred to as the second line funeral procession. White
colonialists also believed funeral processions to be an act that made blacks uncontrollable. As
stated in Piersen s 1988 Notes, In 1721...Boston s selectmen limited the number of bells that
could be tolled for Negro funerals to one in order to cut down on attendance; and they ordered
the funeral processions to stop wending their way all over town and to take the most direct route
to the grave. Well documented manuscripts reveal a tell all of the black experience in colonial
New England. This colony differed to that of many others due to the simple fact that blacks were
recognized and had legal rights. Essentially, blacks were much better off in New England versus
anywhere in the south. Denying religious and moral traditional rights to blacks, white colonists still
insisted that blacks followed a Puritan moral code. With the inability to conform to the Puritan
religion came a spike in witchcraft,

Primer For Black By Gwendolyn Brooks Analysis
The Crippling Disability of Dark Skin The struggle for the acceptance of dark skin tones in
society has been a battle dating as far back as the Colonial Period. Even after slaves were freed,
we were segregated. African Americans were seen as less than human, less beautiful, and
unintelligent, simply because our skin was a darker complexion than our white counterpart. Even
so, after years of battle for equality, influential society members, like Gwendolyn Brooks soon
spoke up on this issue. Later in her career, her poems mainly focused on the racial tension of
America, and the need for change. Her poem Primer for Blacks discusses not only the need to
embrace your skin tone, no matter the shade, but to not feel oppressed by the overwhelming
propaganda of European beauty standards. Gwendolyn Brooks Primer for Blacks emphasizes and
encourages self confidence in the black community, specifically on the color of their skin, and
confronts those who deny their blackness. Throughout the struggle of civil rights in the,
Gwendolyn Brooks advocated her thoughts through the power of her poetry, which soon won her
recognition throughout the country, and the world. She won various awards for her outstanding
work including, but not limited to, The Black Academy of Arts and Letters Award, The National
Book Foundation Medal for Lifetime Achievement, and approximately fifty honorary degrees from
universities and colleges (Brooks). During the early stages of Gwendolyn s career, her main

In the modern era of extended life car maintenance items like engine coolant and spark plugs we
push this painful service down the road.
However, it s on its way and you can bet on that. On some automobiles it s at the 100,000 mile
mark now. One thing is for sure, if you keep the vehicle long enough it will cost you more to
maintain it. On some vehicles this includes replacing the timing belt at a certain mileage. On other
vehicles it s replacing all the extended life fluids. Another thing to consider is spark plug
replacement on some automobiles became extremely difficult and therefore expensive. The face of
regular maintenance has changed, but you ll still find expensive preventative maintenance services
on all automobiles.
Timing Belt Preventative Maintenance
When people are buying a new or used car they usually don t inquire about the timing belt
situation. Keep in mind, that not all vehicles have a timing belt. Some use a timing chain that
doesn t require any maintenance. I personally will not buy an automobile with a rubber timing
belt. However, if you buy a used car you want to find out if paperwork for a timing belt
replacement exists.
Let s use a popular automobile as an example of this expensive preventative maintenance service.
The timing belt falls under preventative maintenance, because it s necessary to replace it even
though there s nothing wrong with it. Failure to do so

The presence of an external auditor allows creditors, investors or bankers to use financial
statements that have been prepared with confidence. Although it does not guarantee the accuracy of
a financial statement, it provides users with some reassurance that a company s financial
statements give a true and fair view of its financial position and its business operations. It also
provides credibility, where in business, is a major asset. With credibility, the willingness of
investors, bankers and others to relate and undertake business projects with a company increases.
Credibility is also important to build positive reputations.
Internal auditors cannot effectively provide an analysis on the company s internal dealings as they
are part of the company. External auditors, however, can observe these processes from the outside
and then determine where the funds of the company and whether the dealings adhere to the
regulations. Using external auditors in a company prevents conflict of interest from happening.
Conflict of interest is a situation where an individual or organization has multiple interests and of
those multiple interests, one could possible corrupt the motivation for an act on the other when the
auditor has any kind of beneficial interest in their client s performance. In other circumstances, there
is also the threat of familiarity where auditors become

According to the national institute on Drug Abuse, Abuse of tobacco, alcohol, and illicit drugs is
costly to our Nation, exacting more than $740 billion annually in costs related to crime, lost work
productivity and health care (NIDA. 2017, April 24). The rising of illicit drug smuggling and abuse
raised questions about legalizing all drug. Although some people think that drugs legalization is a
way to control illicit drug use, it seems that it will do more damage to our society than it will help.
This essay will help us understand all the implications regarding all drugs legalization in this
country.
Drug abuse in general and illicit drug use are one of the most difficult challenges that face all
states around the world. Let us imagine a father with his kids at home who possess a gun without
a safe to secure his gun. Is this family safe? Similarly, legalizing drugs will be a permanent danger
to our society in many aspects.
Firstly, drugs legalization will result in an increased number of users of drug and substance abuse
resulting in high utilization of healthcare services. For instance, legalization of marijuana in
Colorado resulted in an increased healthcare utilization related to marijuana exposure and an
exacerbation of chronic health condition (Monte, Zane Heard. 2015. p. 241). In this example,
legalization means an increased of drug availability and therefore will be accessible

The Weather Of Panama City Beach
The weather in Panama City Beach, Florida, is beautiful in June. Though the twelve hour trip
down there seemed very long and boring, the trip was ultimately worth it. There are a lot of
interesting things to do in Panama City Beach, Florida. The first thing that we did when we
finally got there, was to check into the hotel and take our stuff to the room, which was on the first
floor facing the beach. It had three rooms. One had the kitchenette, a couch, and a bed with a TV
mounted on the wall across from it. The second room had two beds and a TV mounted on the
opposite wall. In between the two rooms was the bathroom. After we finished looking around the
rooms, we went out to the white sandbeach through the sliding glass doors in the first room to
watch the sunset. The colors of the sunset against the light green water were amazing. The reds,
oranges, and yellows seemed more vibrant next to the color of that water. It made me wonder
why people don t just stay on the beach for the rest of their lives. I knew that I would have
happily stayed there forever just to see sunsets like that every night for the rest of my life. We
stayed on the beach until the sun was completely gone and the sky was dark. After the beach was
completely dark and quiet, we headed back to the hotel. The hotel had many things to do inside.
The first thing we did when we got back inside was go to the front desk to see all the activities that
they had at our hotel. We decided that we wanted to do the

The Hobbit And Lord Of The Rings
Once upon a time, before more mainstream genre defining fantasy works such as The Hobbit and
Lord of the Rings, before there even existed an actual fantasy genre at all, Lord Dunsany
masterfully crafted the fantastical The King of Elfland s Daughter, an opulent tapestry of a tale of
what could happen in a typical fairy tale following the happily ever after. Writing in the early years
of the twentieth century, Lord Dunsany was a pioneer in the fantasygenre. He very much belonged
to an earlier, perhaps more enlightened age, when fantasy writers were known for the beauty of
their prose as much as the fantastical nature of their stories. In her essay From Elfland to

Le Guin sees the act of speech in fantasy as the act of creation only the author can create (95),
and Lord Dunsany is a masterful creator in this sense. Since the rules of our world cannot be
used to understand fantastical realms, it is entirely fitting that our language is not adequate for
fantasy, either. To create what Tolkien calls a secondary universe is to make a new world. A
world where no voice has ever spoken before; where the act of speech is the act of creation. The
only voice that speaks there is the creator s voice. And every word counts (Le Guin 95). Because
of his lack of dialogue, this statement is especially true for Dunsany, who Le Guin maintains is the
most imitated, and the most inimitable, writer of fantasy (88). Dunsany s descriptions of
landscape, and the words his characters inhabit, make up the majority of The King of Elfland s
Daughter. We cannot rely on the characters to explain how the world they live in works, nor can we
infer this information through character interaction. We must rely almost entirely on the words
Dunsany uses in his descriptions to understand his worlds. Typical sentence structure and
vocabulary cannot give the reader the sense of wonder Dunsany aims to convey about his worlds,
whether they be typical English woods, or Elfland. Dunsany s language functions in a poetic and
musical style, and the repetition of certain phrases helps give his language this effect. It is

Thomas King Borders
Borders In a world where seven billion people can communicate in fractions of a second across
the globe, share thoughts and exchange cultures, the way we choose to identity ourselves can
often mark us. You can often tell a lot about someone who proclaims to be Quebecois before
being Canadian. And theses thing are often present in areas that have a clash of cultures, such as
QuГ©bec in the former example. But the author Thomas King dives deeper into the subject with
his short story Borders. King s characters do not attach themselves to the place they were born,
instead they take pride in their parents legacy, their heritage. By writing through the eyes of a
twelve year old boy and using opposition, King displays the importance of such things and how
minorities are slowly losing them. Reading the story as told by a young child gives the audience a

The author manages to present these differences in a series of different ways, some more subtle
than others. The first opposition appears early on in the short story. The narrator mentions that his
father is American, while his mother, his sister and he are all Canadian. This leads us to believe
that the family might be no longer together. Further in the story, the boy s sister, Laetitia compares
Salt Lake City to their small town, creating once again a new opposition. And during this
conversation an interesting phrases comes up: Laetitia told her in English. By mentioning the
language in which Laetitia spoke, we can conclude that the mother was speaking in another
language, presumably in her native tongue. This forms an even bigger valley between the two. By
separating herself from her mother, Laetitia disassociates from part of her heritage. This is all
achieved through the various uses of opposition King employs from end to end of

Spinach Chloroplast Lab Report
Before the experiment was conducted, a chloroplast solution was created which was comprised
of deveined spinach leaves. Deveining the leaves cuts off the supply of food and water that is
carried to the leaves and the veins do not carry as much chloroplast compared to the leaves. The
leaves were placed under a lamp to absorb any remaining fluids and then added to a blender that
had been chilled to slow down respiration of the spinach leaves and enzymatic processes within
the spinach leaves that cause browning. The solution was blended in three 10 second bursts after
a .5 M sucrose solution was added to the spinach leaves. Blending was done to eliminate cell
walls and sucrose was added to create an isotonic solution in which the chloroplasts shape was able
to remain the same. The short bursts decrease the amount of heat released from the act of blending,
which would inhibit enzymes from functioning. The solution was poured through three layers of

The Bp Oil Spill Crisis
When presented with this project during class, my group and I knew it would be a challenge, but
knew with the right topic we could easily overcome the challenge. We thought long and hard about
what topic we wanted to research. It had to be something that was interesting, impactful and well
known. We thought of controversial topics, headliner news stories, and topics with familiarity. In
the end, we chose to use British Petroleum s (BP) Oil Spillin the Gulf Coast during 2010. The BP
Oil Spill was a crisis and the BP company responded to the event with socially responsible
leadership style. We ultimately chose it because it was interesting. When it came to research,
we all tried to find different articles on our own to get some general knowledge on the spill. On
the first day, we tried to compare our findings to make sure everyone had a basic understanding
of the BP Oil Spill. Then, we all did our research individually. When we met back up we shared
about our findings and shared our resources. Then Matt created a PowerPoint and shared it with
all of us and included all the awesome links that he found. Several of the links he included were
also discovered by other members of the group. He As far as the presentation goes, we divided
up the different requirements equally and agreed that we could work on it at our own pace, since
we all have access to it. We also created a group message so we could communicate with each

Veterans Compensation For Veterans
With national security playing such sizeable a role today, it is important to ask questions about the
effects it has on the military personnel. Veterans go through a lot to protect, serve, and defend this
nation for a better tomorrow. But in response to their actions to benefit America, do American
citizens and our government do all to support our veterans. Are they appropriately being awarded
compensation as of loss, injury, and suffering? With the number of veterans growing are they
receiving recognition for all their efforts as an individual and a whole? The veteranpopulation has
adapted through the ages, but there has always remained the solid respect and uttermost gratitude
towards them. Even though veterans are thought of very highly for their bravery, they are not
receiving adequate compensation and recognition.
The evolution of the U.S. Department of Veteran Affairs (VA) has grown to accommodate and
benefit the new age of veterans. It dates back to the Revolutionary War where the Continental
Congress agreed to provide pensions for disabled soldiers. This was in an effort to raise support
for the Patriots side during the war. In the Civil War Era Nation s Homes were designed to aid
injured soldiers. The First Nations home located in southern Maine, admitted any Union soldier that
needed medical attention. Approximately thirty years latter marked the climax of the Nation s
homes, for vets with a total of eleven facilities nationwide ( About VA ). These programs were

Flood In Florida Panhandle
At 6pm on April 30th, 2014, a life threatening disaster struck the Florida panhandle. At that time,
Florida residents were not aware of the rain and flooding that was about engulf Pensacola and the
surrounding areas. But as time began to pass, it became obvious this was not an ordinary storm. As
the rain poured and the lightning struck, many people lost power and television connection, unable
to see that what was thought to be a small storm would set national records and be the cause for
severe weatherthreats. This event taught me how to prevent a disastrous situation in dire conditions
as well as the importance of being prepared.
As the rain poured down around 6pm, it became obvious that this thunderstorm was severe. My
family listened to the weather alerts on Channel 3, WEAR, and after two hours, the rain did not
relent. We knew we needed to check for flooding issues around our house. My dad pulled on a slick
black raincoat and walked up our downward slanting driveway to the road, where he discovered
that the cul de sac s road across the street had sent a river of water directly down our driveway. My
mom and I turned on the flood lights to see our backyard and four foot white picket fence lining ...

As the sun rose, we saw that the water flow washed most of our driveway away. However, that
was a small price to pay, as our house had not suffered any flood damage. Upon further research,
we discovered that the single fatality of the storm died just two to three minutes from our house
after she drove into the flooding and was submerged in her car. When sharing this story, I hope the
reader realizes that having the right preparations for natural disasters can mean the difference
between safety and thousands of dollars in damage. Without my dad s smart thinking, my house
would have been flooded with multiple inches of water, or even

SOCIAL:
Attending sports games is a very social activity that people tend to do in groups rather than alone,
this is very beneficial to our marketing campaign as for every person we market too, a small group
finds out about the event. By increasing attendance, we are generating a social hub which will be
appealing for people considering attending due to a fun atmosphere. Furthermore, as young adults

already have a very large and loyal following. With successful marketing in this target market,
Morton should focus his attention on ensuring that alumni continue to return yearly by offering

Upper year students: Upper year students make up the large majority of the Western population, but
as they are further in their education they have reached a point where their education is their
priority. Despite having less disposable income, as upper year students will be going out less often
(due to their busy schedules), they will be more willing to spend money on a more luxury night.
First year students: With 4566 first year students they are the longest term potential clients, and are
arguably the most social. First year students living in residence are often likely to attend events in
large groups , there s also a large concentration of these students in just 9 buildings. Also, these
students often have to purchase food on a daily basis and tend to have the most disposable income.

Deception, Good or Bad Myrrha and Cinyras a Greek tale written by the Roman poet Ovid, depict
the ways in which a deceitful act was carried out by Myrrha and her accomplice, the nurse to
deceive her father, the King, in getting him to satisfy her insatiable desires. Another form of
deception occurred in Jacob and Esau from the Hebrew Bible, where Rebekah plotted against her
older son, Esau, to accommodate her younger and favorite son, Jacob to receive a blessing that
was not intended for him. Both Isaac and Cinyras were deceived by their kin to fulfill their

What Are The Pros And Cons Of Plea Bargaining
Plea bargaining is important in the criminal justice system. It is an essential tool that benefits not
only the prosecutor but the defense attorney and the defendant. Plea bargaining allows attorneys
to decide cases without needing the judge or a jury to decide the case. It can be beneficial to both
the prosecutor and the defense attorney because the prosecutor will have a conviction and the
defense attorney would have gained a lesser charge for his client. Throughout this paper I will lead
you through the process of plea bargaining, the pros and cons, and how it reflects on crimecontrol
and the due process model.
Plea Bargaining
What is plea bargaining? According to Black s Law Dictionary it is a negotiated agreement
between a prosecutor and a criminal defendant whereby the defendant pleads guilty to a lesser
offense or to one of multiple charges in exchange for some concession by the prosecutor. This
usually involves the defendant pleading guilty to a lighter sentence. If the offer by the prosecution
is accepted then the defendant can either plead guilty or nolo contendere which means I do not
contest this. Both of the pleas are similar, the only difference is the nolo contendere plea cannot be
used as admission of guilt in a civil case (Siegel, Schmalleger, Worrall, Chapter 12, 2011).... Show

Examples Of Social Class In Great Expectations
Social and Moral View of Victorian Society Through
The Great Expectations
Introduction:
This project is about the social and moral view of Victorian society through the author of many
acclaimed novels Charles Dickens s Great Expectations. Social view is basically relating to society
or its organization and moral is concerned with the principles of right and wrong behavior. Dickens
was not only the first great urban novelist in England, but also one of the most important social
commentators who used fiction effectively to criticize economic, social, and moral abuses in the
Victorian era. Dickens showed compassion and empathy towards the unguarded and disadvantaged
segments of English society, and contributed to several important social reforms. Dickens s deep ...

He used symbolism and imagery to show various social problems prevailing in society like class
discrimination. Social class determined the way or the manner in which a person was treated that
is according to his class and access to education .In The Great Expectations, a person s social
class shows the amount of education they had. It is important to perceive this relationship
between education and social class to distinctly understand the worth of social class. A person
like Joe who was a common blacksmith had no education at all. On the other side, Pip, in the
early days when he belonged to low class, had poor education at a small school. The school was
not one of the best schools, but it s all that the lower class had for them. The teacher spent more
time sleeping than teaching. Another example of how social class affects education is the
distinction of education between the two convicts. Magwitch, born poor and a low class had no
education at all while Compeyson who was born rich, a high class and a gentleman with an
excellent education. Education was a important factor in showing how Social class really greatly
determined people s lives. Though Social class too determined many other qualities but

Summary Of The Naked Citadel
Confirmation bias is the phenomenon of choosing to accept information that appeals to one s
beliefs. It blinds oneself from another s perspective. It is a cycle that reflects people s lack of
open mindedness. Most Democrats grow up in liberal environments while most Republicans
grow up in conservative environments. These environments affect their political stances, as well
as other beliefs and ideals they have. They then share their beliefs and ideals to those around
them and future generations. These beliefs and ideals we acquire blind us from seeing and
understanding another s perspective. In The Naked Citadel, the admission of a female named
Shannon Faulkner into The Citadel, an all male military college, followed by the immediate
retraction of the admission lead Susan Faludi to investigate the college. After observing the
mannerisms of the cadets in the college, Faludi exposes their cruel and sexist ideals in an effort
to push her readers to have similar impressions of The Citadel, a sexist college known for its
intense hazing. In another essay, Selections from Losing Matt Shepard, Beth Loffreda describes the

Teaching Styles Are Different For Each Educator
Teaching styles are different for each educator, just like all students learn differently. A teacher
must be flexible in their instruction in order to help a child learn to their best of their abilities.
They have to get to know the students and find out whom they truly are. This way, they can adapt
their teaching methods in order to give the student the largest advantage possible to learn and grow
as best as they can. Children often spend more time at school with their teachers than they do at
home with their parents, so sometimes those teachers become the driving force in their lives, and
the largest role models. For a child to receive the best educational experience possible, a teacher
must create a positive learning environment and... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Studies have shown that children who had conflict with the teacher in kindergarten were more
likely to have more behavior problems and lower grades in math and language arts through eighth
grade (Baroody, 2014). The teacher must be able to build the curriculum based on the children.
Teachers must realize that children learn in different ways and must be approached instruction in
such a way. If a teacher does not have a good relationship with their students, they are less willing to
help them (Baroody, 2014). This could cause damage to a student s desire to learn now and in the
future. It is very important for a teacher to maintain a close relationship with his/her students. John
Dewey stated that teachers are there to pick which influences are going to impact the students and
help them learn to respond to the influences accordingly (Dewey, 1959, p. 200). Teachers have so
much more of a role in the students lives than just passing knowledge. They have to create a
learning environment in which students desire to learn. Students and teachers with close, positive
relationships display more enjoyment and pleasure together (Baroody, 2014). These relationships
are important to help the student have a more enjoyable experience, which will encourage learning.
Another thing that can be beneficial to the learning environment is a good curriculum. The
curriculum chosen is a very important part of the

Stereotypes In Hollywood Movies
The first point Berg is trying to make in this chapter is where exactly stereotypes root from, he
talks about this in the the cultural and narrative dynamics of Hollywood cinema where he goes in
depth of why stereotypes were essentially created. Berg explains that the goal driven hero has the
qualities of white, handsome, middle aged, upper middle class, heterosexual, Protestant, Anglo
Saxon male , so with that specific image in mind the WASP wants to be painted with as much
hierarchy as possible so any other roles need to be lesser than the WASP. This is when stereotypes
come into play because roles such as villains, sidekicks, and temptresses are there to function to
make the WASP main character be painted in a much better light. There... Show more content on

Hollywood doesn t like people who go against the grain and aren t the status quo, that is why
Hollywood still tries to ingrain the ideal of WASP so people will be willing to claw their way to
have this luxurious life, as Hollywood paints it. The second point is that he explains in depth the
six most commonly seen Latino stereotypes in Hollywood films, and how horribly they paint the
Latino community. The six stereotypes that are mentioned are El Bandido, The Harlot, The Male
Buffoon, The Female Clown, The Latin Lover and The Dark Lady. The El Bandido is a stereotype
that was portrayed in western films to make the character look gross by their sleazy appearance
and less intelligent by either speaking broken English or English with a very heavy accent. This
stereotype is still prevalent today in the contemporary Hollywood industry by taking on the role of
either a gangster/drug runner or an inner city gang member, but still on the surface the have the
violent dangerous tendencies of the bandidio. The Harlot is a female character that is essentially a
sex machine innately lusting for a white male , she is simply just a commodity to

Johnny In The Outsiders
Outsider When S.E. Hinton wrote her book called the Outsiders she never used the word in the
book, only for the title. She did that so readers could figure out who the outsiders are. The word
outsider means to stand out or to be different. I think the outsiders in the book are Johnny and
Ponyboy. They are different from all the other characters in the book. Cherry gave the readers a
hint at the beginning of the story, she said that ponyboy and johnny seemed different from the other
greasers. Ponyboy and johnny seen like they dont fit in with the greasers. They just stand out.
Ponyboy and Johnny stand out to me because I can relate with them a little. Ponyboy is different
because he lives with his brothers instead of his parents, the other

My Concept Of Accounting Profession
Prior to the trip to DC, I believed that a picture is worth a thousand words and thus expected that
our on site observation of the government s operation and the direct interaction with the field
experts, influencers, and government officials would broaden my view towards the tax accounting
profession. Gratefully, as a result of the trip, my concept of accounting profession was
revolutionized from one that is simply adopting regulations to one that is proactively making a
positive impact on all levels and through various venues of the regulatory system. This one week
symposium was such an eye opening experience for me in gaining insight into the U.S. political
system, economic reality, the relationship of businesses and public policy, and the leading issues in
this emerging economy. Started with a strong ground breaking, professor Jeffrey Weinberg taught
us the fundamentals of U.S. legislative parties, policy making process, and the uniqueness of our
current political system in which President Obama is a Democrat and the majority of the House
and the Senate is Republican. The philosophical difference between the two parties is that
Democrats prefer a high level of taxing to fund welfare programs, whereas Republicans emphasize
low taxrates for the fairness of the society. The Honorable Mickey Edwards, the former House of
Representative, expressed that compromising is the art of closing the gap between the two political
parties for the betterment of the society. Finding

Speech About Push Up
9 Reasons Why You Should Incorporate Push Ups Into Your Daily Routine
Daily exercise is very important, but that doesn t mean you have to head to the gym or invest in
expensive equipment to do so. There is one form of exercise that you can do quickly, without any
special gear, and at any fitness level. The exercise is of course push ups, one of the oldest forms of
working out throughout history. However, thanks to all the high tech equipment available to us in
the modern age, the humble push up is often overlooked because it is so simple to perform. Don t
be fooled though, incorporating push ups into your daily fitness routine is extremely beneficial to
your health. Here are just a couple of reasons why this form of exercise is so beneficial.
1.Increased Endurance As Well As Upper Body Strength
Push ups are one of the most effectively ways to increase upper body strength without having to
resort to weight lifting. The major muscles used during a push up are the ones on the back of your
arms, front of your shoulders as well as your chest. Not only will push ups build and tone these
muscles, increasing your upper body strength, but you ll also be improving your endurance as well.

This is especially important if you spend large parts of your day sitting at a desk while working.
The effects of improper posture can be devastating on your health and comfort as you grow older,
but push ups strengthen the core muscles, which improves posture. Your torso is also exercised
during push ups to stabilize movement, which strengthens it and decreases the chances of back
injuries. Anyone who has suffered the debilitating effects of even a minor lower back injury will
know important it is to keep this vulnerable part of the body in good shape. In addition, the back
muscles stretches during push ups you are also increasing your

  • 2. The Community Mental Health Centers Act Of 1963 Closed... Many years ago, mental illness was viewed as a demonic possession or a religious punishment. In the 18th century, the attitudes towards mental illness were negative and persistent. This negativity leads to the stigmatization and confinement of those who were mentally ill. The mentally ill were sent to mental hospitals that were unhealthy and dangerous. A push in the mid 1950s for deinstitutionalization began because of activists lobbying for change. Dorothea Dix was one of these activists that helped push for change. The change called for more community oriented care rather than asylum based care. The Community Mental Health Centers Act of 1963 closed state psychiatric hospitals throughout the United States. Only individuals who posed an imminent danger to themselves or someone else could be committed to state psychiatric hospitals (A Brief History of Mental Illness and the U.S. Mental Health Care System). Deinstitutionalization meant to improve quality of life and treatment for those who are mentally ill. This would hopefully result in the mentally ill receiving treatment so they could live more independently. The hope was that community mental health programs would provide this treatment but sadly there was not sufficient or ongoing funding to meet the growing demand for these programs. Budgets for mental hospitals were reduced but there was no increase for the community based programs. Many mentally ill individuals have been moved to nursing homes or other residential ... From start to finish, one can see Hamlet s mind warp. Throughout the play, Hamlet is manipulated, lied to, and driven insane. He is the victim at the end. Hamletwants to avenge his father because his uncle killed him. However, the world around Hamlet is falling apart and he is only doing his best to right all the wrongs he can. His judgment may be clouded, but there are still bouts of sense from him throughout the play. Shakespeare strategically plays off of the language, mainly with the word: seems . • 5. The Death Of William Shakespeare s Romeo And Juliet David was not the only artist to be fascinated and inspired by historic suicides. Suicide is not an uncommon subject of paintings, or any of the arts for that matter. On the contrary, suicide can be glorified to a certain extent, in the way that a novel or film can romanticize the act without the brutality or consequences being addressed. Suicidecan appear heroic in the face of a evil. It can appear to be a triumphant escape from a cruel world. Suicide can even look romantic when portrayed as the conclusion to a love story, like in Romeo and Juliet, a masterpiece by the beloved William Shakespeare. Death itself is dramatic, but there is something more to beyond the gruesome or romantic aspects of death, particularly when it comes to suicide. The Death of Socratesmanages to grip the viewer with its dramatic climax to death, yet saying something more with it s imagery. The Death of Socrates effortlessly channels utter despair, and yet, unwavering defiance. The painting comprises of the moments just before Socrates ends his own life (Metropolitan Museum of Art). His followers sit beside him weeping in horror as Socrates prepares to die. Socrates himself holds his left hand high up, finger in the air in staunch defiance, all while his right hand hovers over the cup of Hemlock. The sunlight beams through a window in the upper left hand corner, gazing down on the scene about to unravel. • 6. Overtime Character Analysis Many people in life do not sit and think about the consequences that would be the outcome of their actions. Upon approaching this show, people would see that it is just another superhero show where the hero beats the bad guy. In a sense, it is that kind of show, but the show is more than those stereotypical hero stories. Throughout Arrow, the protagonist Oliver Queen has problem accepting for what he has become. Overtime, Oliver was forced to live a rough life because he found himself trapped on an island; his rough experience of trying to survive changed him into a type of person who would easily kill a person without a second thought. This resulted into an upbringing of an enemy named Slade. Slade wanted to get revenge and try to kill Oliver loved ones as a duty towards the other person. Slade then forced to choose between the life between his mother or sister. In society, nobody should decide who should live or die. Essay on Curling and Team Curling is a precision team sport similar to bowls or bocce, played on a rectangular sheet of prepared ice by two teams of four players each, using heavy polished granite stones which players slide down the ice towards a target area called the house. Points are scored for the number of stones that a team has closer to the centre of the target than the closest of the other team s stones. The game is thought to have been invented in late medieval Scotland, with the first written reference to a contest using stones on ice coming from the records of Paisley Abbey, Renfrew, in February 1541. Teams confer between throws to determine where they will attempt to place the next rock. The process of throwing a rock is known as the delivery. While not mandatory, most curlers deliver the rock from sliding out from the hack. When sliding out, one must start with one shoe (the one with the non slippery sole) against one of the hacks . For a right handed curler, this means starting from the left hack, and vice versa for a left handed curler. When delivering the rock, it is important to remember that the momentum behind how much weight is applied to the rock depends on how much leg drive the delivery has. It is usually not wise to push the rock with the arm, unless absolutely necessary. When in the hack, one must crouch down with the body lined up and shoulders square with the skip s broom at the other end. While in the hack, one may hold a broom out for balance. Different curlers hold their broom out in many different fashions. The broom is held in the hand opposite from the rock, and should be positioned so that the non sweeping side of the broom is against the ice. This prevents drag which would be caused by the soft head of the broom dragging against the ice. Before any delivery, it is important to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 12. Primer For Black By Gwendolyn Brooks Analysis The Crippling Disability of Dark Skin The struggle for the acceptance of dark skin tones in society has been a battle dating as far back as the Colonial Period. Even after slaves were freed, we were segregated. African Americans were seen as less than human, less beautiful, and unintelligent, simply because our skin was a darker complexion than our white counterpart. Even so, after years of battle for equality, influential society members, like Gwendolyn Brooks soon spoke up on this issue. Her poem Primer for Blacks discusses not only the need to embrace your skin tone, no matter the shade, but to not feel oppressed by the overwhelming propaganda of European beauty standards. Gwendolyn Brooks Primer for Blacks emphasizes and encourages self confidence in the black community, specifically on the color of their skin, and confronts those who deny their blackness. The Hobbit And Lord Of The Rings Once upon a time, before more mainstream genre defining fantasy works such as The Hobbit and Lord of the Rings, before there even existed an actual fantasy genre at all, Lord Dunsany masterfully crafted the fantastical The King of Elfland s Daughter, an opulent tapestry of a tale of what could happen in a typical fairy tale following the happily ever after. Writing in the early years of the twentieth century, Lord Dunsany was a pioneer in the fantasygenre. Le Guin sees the act of speech in fantasy as the act of creation only the author can create (95), and Lord Dunsany is a masterful creator in this sense. Since the rules of our world cannot be used to understand fantastical realms, it is entirely fitting that our language is not adequate for fantasy, either. To create what Tolkien calls a secondary universe is to make a new world. A world where no voice has ever spoken before; where the act of speech is the act of creation. The only voice that speaks there is the creator s voice. And every word counts (Le Guin 95). Because of his lack of dialogue, this statement is especially true for Dunsany, who Le Guin maintains is the most imitated, and the most inimitable, writer of fantasy (88). Dunsany s descriptions of landscape, and the words his characters inhabit, make up the majority of The King of Elfland s Daughter. We cannot rely on the characters to explain how the world they live in works, nor can we infer this information through character interaction. We must rely almost entirely on the words Dunsany uses in his descriptions to understand his worlds. Typical sentence structure and vocabulary cannot give the reader the sense of wonder Dunsany aims to convey about his worlds, whether they be typical English woods, or Elfland. • 23. Veterans Compensation For Veterans With national security playing such sizeable a role today, it is important to ask questions about the effects it has on the military personnel. Veterans go through a lot to protect, serve, and defend this nation for a better tomorrow. But in response to their actions to benefit America, do American citizens and our government do all to support our veterans. Are they appropriately being awarded compensation as of loss, injury, and suffering? With the number of veterans growing are they receiving recognition for all their efforts as an individual and a whole? The veteranpopulation has adapted through the ages, but there has always remained the solid respect and uttermost gratitude towards them. Even though veterans are thought of very highly for their bravery, they are not receiving adequate compensation and recognition. The evolution of the U.S. Department of Veteran Affairs (VA) has grown to accommodate and benefit the new age of veterans. It dates back to the Revolutionary War where the Continental Congress agreed to provide pensions for disabled soldiers. This was in an effort to raise support for the Patriots side during the war. In the Civil War Era Nation s Homes were designed to aid injured soldiers. The First Nations home located in southern Maine, admitted any Union soldier that needed medical attention. At that time, Florida residents were not aware of the rain and flooding that was about engulf Pensacola and the surrounding areas. It is an essential tool that benefits not only the prosecutor but the defense attorney and the defendant. Plea bargaining allows attorneys to decide cases without needing the judge or a jury to decide the case. It can be beneficial to both the prosecutor and the defense attorney because the prosecutor will have a conviction and the defense attorney would have gained a lesser charge for his client. Throughout this paper I will lead you through the process of plea bargaining, the pros and cons, and how it reflects on crimecontrol and the due process model. Plea Bargaining What is plea bargaining? According to Black s Law Dictionary it is a negotiated agreement between a prosecutor and a criminal defendant whereby the defendant pleads guilty to a lesser offense or to one of multiple charges in exchange for some concession by the prosecutor. This usually involves the defendant pleading guilty to a lighter sentence. If the offer by the prosecution is accepted then the defendant can either plead guilty or nolo contendere which means I do not contest this. Both of the pleas are similar, the only difference is the nolo contendere plea cannot be used as admission of guilt in a civil case (Siegel, Schmalleger, Worrall, Chapter 12, 2011).... This is when stereotypes come into play because roles such as villains, sidekicks, and temptresses are there to function to make the WASP main character be painted in a much better light. There... Hollywood doesn t like people who go against the grain and aren t the status quo, that is why Hollywood still tries to ingrain the ideal of WASP so people will be willing to claw their way to have this luxurious life, as Hollywood paints it. The second point is that he explains in depth the six most commonly seen Latino stereotypes in Hollywood films, and how horribly they paint the Latino community. The six stereotypes that are mentioned are El Bandido, The Harlot, The Male Buffoon, The Female Clown, The Latin Lover and The Dark Lady. The El Bandido is a stereotype that was portrayed in western films to make the character look gross by their sleazy appearance and less intelligent by either speaking broken English or English with a very heavy accent. This stereotype is still prevalent today in the contemporary Hollywood industry by taking on the role of either a gangster/drug runner or an inner city gang member, but still on the surface the have the violent dangerous tendencies of the bandidio. The philosophical difference between the two parties is that Democrats prefer a high level of taxing to fund welfare programs, whereas Republicans emphasize low taxrates for the fairness of the society. The Honorable Mickey Edwards, the former House of Representative, expressed that compromising is the art of closing the gap between the two political parties for the betterment of the society.
