Explanation Of The West Nile Virus
A Quick Explanation of the West Nile Virus and How to Protect Yourself The West Nile virus is a
growing problem in North America, and it is prevalent in the United States. A lot of research has been
done on this virus, and one piece of information that you need to be aware of is that it is spread by
mosquitoes. There are no symptoms of this virus, but according to the Center for Disease Control, one
in five people will develop a fever, and in addition, one in a hundred will have serious complications
that can result in death. Where the virus is found Not every place in the nation has been affected yet,
mostly it is in the western half of the United States, however, it has been found in Mississippi and in
the northeast state of Delaware.

Urbanization Of The United States
When we take a look on our current life, we definitely will not be strange to everything surrounding
us. But what if we lived in the past and traveled to the present, we must be shocked by this great
urbanization in our city. What is urbanization? Urbanization is defined as the process by which towns
and cities are formed and become larger as more and more people begin living and working in central
areas. In Boston, the government sets up a freedom trail that reflects the history of the United States.
However, there is also a latest freedom trail that is constructed by my own, which shows how
urbanization in Boston was going step by step. The core factors indicated by this new freedom trail are
trade, immigration, education and manufacturing. Long Wharf is the first stop. It was constructed
around 1710 in downtown Boston. Why does Long Wharf play a determined role in the development
of urbanization? Going through the history, when the British colonists came to Boston, they were
seeking to find clean water for survival. They began to set up home around the Quonehassit and then
built Long Wharf. From the geographical point of view, Long Wharf was at the mouth of several
rivers extending inland, which made a naturally ideal port. At the time of the society and even today s
society, trade is essential in the survival of the community. By looking at trade between one colonial
and another colonial, and between the New England region and the other countries, Long Wharf

Internal Rhyme Scheme Of The Raven
The established works of literature in society today, allow for readers to develop their own unique
sense of interpretations of the deeper meanings of these texts. The Raven by Edgar Allan Poe, is a
piece that deals with the struggle of a loved one passing and the main character s internal and mental
struggle of dealing with this scenario. Whilst, sitting amongst his gloomy, dark chamber of the hours
of midnight the traumatized male is met by a dark raven, who of which is the responder to his
thoughts out loud of the attempt of forgetting about his love named Lenore. The raven, has only yet to
reply with a single phrase. This phrase is the statement of Nevermore , displayed through the raven s
choice of words ignites the thinking process in the reader s brain, as had myself been wondering what
this exactly could signify. The first source ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Within the text of The Raven, the tone of the scheme followed a underlying pattern relating towards
mourning and sadness. The pattern was kept flowing throughout the entirety of the poem. Poe was
able to master, through the use of literary devices, the ability to add, emotion, depth and tone to this
piece. The internal rhyme scheme creates a sense of anticipation and tension, which plays into the
external rhyme schemes as well. Lines crafted together reflect my formerly made ideas relating
towards the criticism, an example shows as the line states Once upon a midnight dreary, while I
pondered weak and weary (Poe 1. This chosen quote plays into allowing the reader to become more
engaged with the words and helps them find a pattern. Poe s repetition of sound throughout his
external rhyme schemes heighten the mourning for Lenore, as the poem states But the Raven, sitting
lonely on the placid bust, spoke only That one word, as if his soul in that world he did outpour (Poe,

Analysis Of The s Metamorphosis
One major difference Apuleius makes in his depiction of Psyche is that he places a premise in her
original encounter with Cupid she is not allowed to know his identity nor to see his face. The sequence
of Psyche s acquaintance with her lover, in fact, plays quite an important role in the story. People often
say that, To see is to believe. However, it is not always the case. Under the circumstance of love, what
one sees will be highly deceptive, as it is human nature that one will prefer individuals with charming
faces or distinguished reputations and thus more easily fall victim to his/her biased judgement. As
illustrated by the misery of Echo in Ovid s Metamorphosis, her love for Narcissus bases so much on
his outstanding ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As a matter of fact, the way a person communicates is a significant reflection of his/her mindset;
hence, through their conversations, Psyche is able to understand the internal world of his lover and
build up psychologically empathetic connection with him. (Quotes from the story of Cupid and Psyche
that she is able to feel his kindness.) Without the intervention of illusive perception, Psyche senses the
concern from her husband more distinctly by heart, and consequently enforces their association in
later time. (outwardly attractive) Some might argue that even though Psyche might take advantages of
learning about the true characteristics of her husband by her mind and soul instead of her eyes, the fact
that she can neither perceive Cupid s appearance nor get information about his life span still violates
their relationship; Otherwise, Psyche will never try to ascertain Cupid s identity. Nevertheless, to
grasp the real essence does not imply that Psyche should never have knowledge of Cupid; instead, to
know a person in a comprehensive way, both the interior nature and the exterior features are crucial.
The thing that matters is the chronology of the cognitive process. In Psyche s situation, she manages to
decipher her husband to form their mental ties before she actually catches sight of him, and after that
her discovery of Cupid s truth constructs a more inseparable interconnection rooted with her
intellectual comprehension, much

Sexualization Of Women In Video Games
Does the sexualization of women in video games affect women s self esteem and perpetuate female
stereotypes?
Annika Lindburg
Linfield College
Introduction
It is difficult to find a video game that does not depict females as a damsel in distress or a sex object.
The target audience for video games has been males, and video game companies are marketing to
males with stereotypes of females in video games. A surprising finding is that around 150 million
Americans, or almost half of women play video games (Kelleher, 2015). Yet video games continue to
depict females as old fashioned stereotypes that leave a lasting affect on a female s health.
How are women in video games treated?
Donkey Kong was released in 1981 and was one of the earliest arcade video games that portrayed
females as a damsel ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Video games are created from a male perspective that is exaggerating female s sexual or feminine
traits (Near, 2013). Part of the problem is the lack of diversity in the gaming industry. Most game
developers are men, which result in less sexism on purpose, and more of a diversity problem among
video game creators (Ferguson, 2015). If there were more females in the video game industry, there
would be more realistic female avatars in video games. Royse et al. (2007) argued that the gaming
industry has begun to make games for females like Dance Dance Revolution and Eyetoy but that
females are still wrongly thought of as having one perspective or experience. Since the majority of
video game writers are males, they create video games that interest them and their target audience.
Near (2013) found that predominantly male audiences identify better with a male avatar than a female
one. Thus males write a stereotypical script in which a woman is scantily clad and needs to be saved
which brings them revenue and further undermines a women s self

Essay On The Massachusetts Bay Colony
The Massachusetts colony, otherwise known as the Massachusetts Bay colony was originally settled
by Puritans in 1630. They were plagued by the religious persecutions of King Charles I and the
Church of England. Weary from this dogged torment, they left England under the leadership of John
Winthrop. These original colonists quickly established many small towns in the name of high religious
ideals and strict societal rules. They also planted churches, spread Puritanism and religiously educated
the masses, as these were some of their goals. A utopian society that other colonies looked upon with
high regards was the ultimate goal. The charter that gave the Puritans freedom to leave the England
had a significant loophole the colony did ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Strong religious views that coincided with a reverence for family and accountability for one s own
actions made for a strict lifestyle in the colony. The minister was considered to be the most important
man within the community. To have spoken out or fallen asleep during a four hour sermon was
thought to be unacceptable and a harsh punishment was handed out. Another example of the rigidness
of the colony was that if a person were to miss a sermon without just cause, they were to be placed in
a pillory and have their ear nailed to it. Simplicity was a key element in worship as there were no
candles, religious ritual, or decoration. Emphasis was solely placed on the sermon. Puritans did not
participate in traditional holidays as it was thought to be sacrilegious. Dramatic plays along with any
form of gambling were banned also. Oddly enough, drinking was allowed but no toasts could be made
as it was considered to be wasteful. Another core belief was the family had a social order . The father
was the head of the household, with mother as the helper (as stated in the Bible) and children were the
lowest in the hierarchy. Obedience of the children in the home was expected and demanded. A just
love of the children was to discipline the children justly. If the children were obedient then the
austerity and goodness of the mother were seen to be her saving grace in the hereafter. However, if the
mother was too tender loving and not stern with the

Evaluation Of A Tabu Search Generator Based Memory...
Casertaa and Uribe [46] proposed a Tabu Search (TS) based memory mechanism for problem solving.
It was capable of navigating both local information and in formation from search space. They took
tabu tenure as the performance measuring metrics. The efficiency of this algorithm was verified by
testing four benchmark problems using problem solving software. The results showed that TS
produced globally optimal solution in CPU time less than 0.1 seconds. Further they have generated
large random instances for testing and get optimal solutions using branch and cut solver on them.
Conclusions were drawn that proposed method was able to solve problems having 1300 binary
variables in 3 CPU seconds, but branch and cut solver takes 2500 CPU seconds. For larger problems
having 2300 binary variables, optimal solution could not be obtained using branch and cut solver, but
nearly optimal solution was obtained using TS with dual gap of 13%. So it was suggested that TS was
able to solve software reliability problems efficiently.
Daz et al. [47] derived a Tabu Search Generator (TSGen) for automatic structural software testing with
intensified and diversified search to attain high branch coverage. It also uses memory mechanisms and

The Impact Of Sports On Sports Industry
The study of Pitts et al. (1994), the books of Parks, et al (1998) and additional studies including Meek
(1997) allow us to reach a definition of sport industry; the sports industry is a market wherein the
products manufactured and offered to its customers are sport, recreation and fitness related and may be
activities, amenities or people.
Sports we support, follow and play today are part of our day to day lives and we forget that over 250
years ago the sports established today did not yet exist and the few that did would be unappealing and
unrecognisable to the sports fans of today. Looking back to the history of sports we see a story of

The Industrial Revolution, beginning in Great Britain, quickly spread throughout the world. This time
period saw the mechanisation of agriculture and textile manufacturing and a revolution in power (i.e.,
steam ships and railroads) and had a massive effect on social, cultural and economic conditions. The
Industrial Revolution had an enormous effect on Sport in Britain. Many changes that may appear far
from linked to sport had a direct effect on how sport was played, when sport was played, and how
much more sport was encompassed into everyday life. The revolution saw mass migration into the
main urban, city areas of an area. In order for workers to travel to work and also for factories and mills
to deliver their goods transport was developed quickly. This development helped towns and cities
grow, and it also helped sport surge in popularity. Teams now had the option, and availability to travel
to different towns and play teams from all over the country. In return supporters were also allowed to
travel and support their local team or factory team. This meant that more people could see sport and
gain interest. This was helpful in encouraging people, which would increase participation levels. The
ability to travel quickly and conveniently between towns and cities improved sporting contacts.
However, the industrial revolution could not have been seen as development. During the revolution a
large class divide was

Distal Radioulnar Joint
The wrist is an anatomic linkage bridging the hand to the forearm. Eight bones of carpus and the distal
radius and ulna form complex articulation that allow 3 degrees of movement. The hand, relative to the
forearm, can flex and extend, pronate and supinate, and deviate ulnar and radial. [17]
In order to have such mobility while maintaining stability, the wrist has complex configuration of
ligaments and bones. Malfunction of the wrist occurs when the structural alignment of the bones has
changed or when the ligamentous constraints have been disrupted. [17]
The distal radioulnar joint (DRUJ)
Problems of the DRUJ have been called by Palmer as the low back pain of the wrist. [18]
Over the last years, there has been a tremendous surge in research involving the anatomy, function,
and treatment of DRUJ pathology.
In the DRUJ: The shallow concave sigmoid notch of the distal radius articulates with the convex
asymmetric shaped ulnar head.

There is also reported a palmar osteocartilagenous lip in 80% of the people which acted as a stable
buttress to palmar dislocation of the ulna.
The articulation of the sigmoid notch with the ulnar head allows rotation of the radiocarpal unit in the
transverse plane.[ 19]
The ulna head:
The medial area of it has a bony prominence, whichis known as the ulnar styloid process. This is the
point of attachment for soft tissue structures. The dorsal nonarticular portion of the ulnar head has an
osseous groove to accommodate the extensor carpi ulnaris tendon (ECU). Articular cartilage covers a
90 to 135 degrees arc of the ulnar head, and only a 47 to 80 degree arc on the sigmoid notch.[20]
One important geometric joint characteristic of the DRUJ is the radius of curvature between the two
articulating surfaces. The radius of curvature of the ulnar head (averages 10 mm) is different from the
radius of curvature of the sigmoid notch (averages 15 mm). Consequently,

An Agile Software Application Development Essay
The top reason for adopting an Agile software application development approach is that it promotes a
culture of collaboration and continuous feedback that concentrates on early delivery of superior
products that meet important end user requirements. Agile software development is in use by many
organizations and has been accepted not only as a method of developing software but in project
management as well. This business case will outline the justification for Company X to move towards
using the Agile development method and help guide management to evaluate and consider this option.
An article related to the Agile method of software development was perused in preparation for this
business case. The article examined is titled Agility in Context [1] (Hoda et al, 2010). This article
along with my prior employment experience with Company X has helped provide the context for this
business case. 3 BUSINESS NEED AND CURRENT SITUATION Company X is large corporation
that is involved in producing, selling, and maintaining advanced technological products to both
commercial and non commercial customers. For the reason that Company X is such a large company,
it is assumed that my account of their software development method is not company wide and only
attributable to that section of the company I was involved in. Based on interactions with the
organization s software development team with regards to a software application request, it was

Summary Of Interactive Data Visualization By Charles...
In his essay, The Re Emergence of Emotional Appeals in Interactive Data Visualization , Charles
Kostelnick compares printed data to language by noting media s limited ability to stimulate thought
and send a relatable message. Kostelnick states these two modes of messaging can evoke empathy or
fear in an audience, but for what purpose? As his essay unfolds, he makes it clear that messaging must
be multi faceted implementing color, interactive elements and animations to truly evoke a substantial
response in the viewer. This dissection seems to parallel many elements and stylistic approaches film
uses to captivate its audiences. Perhaps Kostelnick is right viral ad campaigns show that the average
consumer connects well to a message that is truly heartfelt. For example, the new Amazon Prime ad ...

Here I found parallels between his depiction of language s ability to evoke and express emotion and
the limitations that coincide with printed data expression. Kostelnick posits that if one can connect one
s audience to data in a tactile, immediate way, their emotional response will bring about engagement
and interest. Data then, like language, must collaborate with color, imagery, and the viewer s ability to
directly relate and feel empathy. Otherwise, printed data alone as with language alone simply cannot
accomplish the same level of human connection. In sum, to be effective the message needs movement,
color, and human influence. The viewer must feel that they are an active part in the data in order to
feel most connected to it. Similarly, this is the case in the viral video messaging and film of today s
world. Kostelnick may not have mentioned film in his essay, but he doesn t have to directly say it to
point out to us just how we can make data consumption a more engaging, empathy inspired action by
pulling from the ways of

With slow cuts as well as the blockage in the scene, the film brings all eyes to Jules as he delivers his

people might still argue that the character Jules didn t evolve at all and it might be true. Despite that
this scene locks Jules s position as a progressive character and leaves everyone without doubt that the
stereotype of the typical gunman has been crumbled. Pulp Fiction s intellectual choice of words takes
hold of our interest while simultaneously making us feel as if we were there. Jules s words of wisdom
respecting Ezekiel 25:17 were emphasized by all the incorporation of slow cut scenes. Adding Ringo s

Hurdle And Gerrit Cole In Major League Baseball
Imagine it is the final game of the Major League Baseball (MLB) season in the seventh inning of an
interleague game between the National League (NL) Pittsburgh Pirates and the American League (AL)
Toronto Blue Jays. Gerrit Cole is pitching for the hometown Pirates and is having an exceptional
game, allowing only one unearned run. The Jays lead 1 0 and Gerrit Cole is up next to bat. The
question then for General Manager, Clint Hurdle, is whether to pinch hit for him in exchange for a
better hitter, or to leave him in the game so he can continue to pitch. If only there was a way to keep
Cole in the game, while having someone like Pedro Alvarez; a non everyday starter who can hit the
ball, pinch hit and give their team the best chance to win ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
What it comes down to is the difference between the need to do something and the option to do
something. None other than Bill James, a widely known baseball writer, noted that the perceived
strategy is actually very trite, predictable, and actually nonstrategic. Instead of manager s deciding on
what substitution, or lack thereof, can give their team an advantage, they are forced with situations in
which they must bunt, must pinch hit, and must double switch. As James notes, the American League
game allows a true option, and thus true strategy. This means that whatever AL managers decide to do
when it comes to offensive batting substitutions, they do so to benefit their team, not because they are
forced to do so (Meehan, 2013). These substitutions, including the commonly used double switch
where a pinch hitter is substituted for the pitcher and the next inning is substituted again for a relief
pitcher, take up time in the game. It is significantly a problem in the MLB where the longevity and the
slow pace of the game has caused many fans to get bored sitting through a full nine innings.
Especially with the addition of instant replay, the game continues to get longer and it has become a
challenge for many fans to watch an entire game. Brian Costa, sports reporter for the Wall Street
Journal, wrote an article about the reasons for the length and slow pace of the game. He mentions that
it has become normal for fans to complain about hitters stepping out of the batter s box, pitchers
pacing around the mound and pitching changes. Red Sox Chief Operating Officer Sam Kennedy even
states that this problem is one of the most critical issues facing baseball as we move forward into the
next three, five, seven years (Costa, 2014). Joe Sheehan also wrote an article about the increasing

different universal themes occurred. Not just in this book but in movies and TV shows as well. The
different themes all show morals surrounding situations both good and bad. One main theme that is
present is how people abuse power when it is not earned. This happens because people crave power
and they want to be in control. In the following paragraphs, different themes will be linked with the
book Lord of the Flies and similar movies and TV shows such as the Walking Dead and the book Miss

The second quote from Lord of the Flies is when Jack said to Piggy You would, would you? Fatty!
Jack had said this in a vicious and humiliating way because he wanted Piggy to feel left out and very
discouraged. The same thing happened in the book Miss Peregrine s Home for Peculiar Children
because Jacob had been an outcast ever since he had seen that horrible beast like thing. His friends had
started calling him crazy only to make themselves feel better and to put Jacob down. The last theme
that occurred in both books was that society holds everyone together. In Lord of the Flies, the Island
had been their society. The quote that shows how society is falling apart is The world, that
understandable and lawful world, was slipping away. The same meaning is also present in Miss
Peregrine s Home for Peculiar Children. When Jacob left his home in Florida, he had lost all signs of
society. He had shut out all rules and went to a different time zone. His world was overrun with
monsters. With all the different themes happening inside the book Lord of the Flies we are able to link
them to other movies and TV shows. The different themes show how any movie or TV show can have
similar themes but can have a very diverse background. In conclusion, the themes of the book Lord of

Creatine and its Dangers Essay
Creatine and its Dangers
Creatine is a very controversial supplement on the market today. Many endorse the uses of creatine,
but others are skeptical about the advantage a person receives from taking it and the dangers one
inherits as a result of creatine consumption. The debate remains due to the short amount of time that
creatine has been available. People base their opinions on preliminary studies that have been done but
no one knows the long term effects of creatine on the body. Many take the risk without vast
knowledge, but others still remain skeptical based on preliminary evidence that discourages the intake
of creatine.

Creatine allows for increased storage of ATP. The transfer of a molecule of phosphorous from creatine
phosphate to adenosine diphosphate(ADP) results in the formation of ATP. ...since the muscle creatine
phosphate concentrations can fall to almost zero, it(creatine consumption) can make a significant
contribution to the energy supply needed for brief bursts of very high intensity exercise, says Dr.
Bolotte. The equation for the synthesis of ATP from creatine phosphate and ADP is as follows: PCr +
ADP forms ATP + Cr. (http://www.lsms.org/journal/98creat.html) Also, lactic acid levels, which cause
muscles to burn during workouts, are lowered by the consumption of creatine. Without the burning
sensation, athletes don t feel the need to stop exercising. Athletes begin their creatine process with a
loading phase of twenty grams per day for five days. Then, they consume three to five grams per day.

gains after this process of consumption.
The Theory Behind Creatine
The supplement creatine is used for faster recovery for muscles after short periods of exercise. The
theory is an athlete on creatine can exhibit more explosive bursts of energy allowing for longer weight

alone has increased by 646% between 1980 and 2010, rising from 1,118 to 112,797 (CITE). The rise
of women in prison and other correctional facilities can be explained for a variety of reasons including
the decline in chivalrous attitudes toward women, which increases pressure to administer law in

Throughout history women have been the primary caretakers of children. According to sociologist
Parsons, women are natural caregivers and the ones who take care of the kids and are often more
likely to be a single parent than a man (Cite source on this). Therefore this becomes a problem if
women go to prison. With more women going to prison more children are going to be at loss of a
primary caregiver, leading them to seek attention and affection in other places. Children are already at
a disadvantage with one parent in prison, however having a mother in prison is more disadvantageous
(Pollock, 2014, p. 27). According to Pollock, it has been reported that adult children of mothers who
have ever been incarcerated are 2.5 times as likely to be incarcerated themselves, compared to the
children who had fathers incarcerated (2012, P. 271). Children with mothers in prison are at a great
risk of engaging in a criminal lifestyles, therefore the way that a woman mothers her child while
incarcerated can greatly affect the lifestyle her child or children have in the

The Basic Function Of A Police Officer
The Use of Force
It is the basic function of a police officer to deal with any problems that might require the use of
coercive force according to Carl B. Klockars (Dempsey and Frost 2011). I feel it is how they uses that
force is what makes the difference between a good officer and a bad one. This first example from
(www.justice.gov) is of an officer that uses excessive force on a suspect that is already unter control,
the only good i seen out of this is that the other officer on the scene reported his conduct to their
supervisor.
This case arose from Boone s use of excessive force against Orville Hill during Hill s arrest on Feb.
19, 2013. During the incident, Boone arrived at a scene where three fellow Des Moines police officers
were holding Hill on the ground and a fourth officer was standing over the group. Boone ran up to the
group and kicked Hill in the face, knocking out two of Hill s teeth and breaking his nose. Other
officers reported Boone s conduct to supervisors after learning that Boone had submitted a written
report in which he failed to account truthfully for his actions. On March 13, 2015, a jury found Boone
guilty of violating Hill s civil rights by using unreasonable force .
My next example shows were an off duty officer used a text book case of the use of deadly force, i
feel the suspect was hunting the officer and would have killed the officer given the chance.
The Oct. 8 incident occurred after the 33 year veteran was heading home in his personal

Letter By Marion Shepardson Summary
Marion Shepardson wrote a letter in 1949 that functions like a time capsule to what Poway looked like
back then. In it she spoke about the trees and little but pleasant breezes until November . (Mary
Shepardson 1.) She wrote about a lot of things but mostly about how how docile life was. The simple
pleasures that Shepardson got from nature is are rare to find now. Poway is no longer a quaint little
farming town, San Diego as a whole is slowly blossoming into a metropolitan area. Now more then
ever it is important to recognize the changes that are coming and prepare for the future. We have two
paths to follow at this crossroad. San Diegians can prepare for the future and protect what Shepardson
once fell in love with or we can ignore the incoming

Historical Poetry Essay
Literature 115 003 April 22, 2010 Donna Craine The Hit Man s Contradiction T. Coraghessan Boyle is
a unique modern author whose work is a mixture of humor and social exploration. Boyle seems to
have a very morbid sense of humor; most of what he writes pushes the envelope and challenges the
meaning of what humor is. T. C. Boyle was born on December 2, 1948. He grew up in a small town in
Iowa and first had dreams of being a musician. To this day Boyle still performs in a garage band and is
very passionate about music. Boyle quickly realized in college that he could not make a living from
music and drifted through classes until liberal arts became his passion. Boyle was successful in
schooling from that point on, He received a Ph.D. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He responds to the Hit Man s knock, expresses surprise at the Hit Man s appearance. The Hit Man
takes Cynthia by the elbow, presses a twenty into her father s palm, and disappears into the night. This
is a very unique first date story even for the culture of the 80 s which seemed to be more sexually open
than ever before. On an average first date the male usually tries to impress the father and gets a lecture
about what time he should safely bring the daughter home. But the Hit Man is different and Boyle
creates these differences by contrasting the Hit Man to the social norms of the eighties. The next major
event of the story I find conflicting with the history of T. C. Boyle is when the narrator skims over the
death of the Hit Man s parents. The narrator only gives this event in the Hit Man s life five lines of the
story. When the Hit Man s mother is in the, Hospital dying of cancer or heart disease, or something the
Hit Man doesn t even care; he is out shooting pool, lifting weights and drinking milk from the carton.
Briefly skimming over these events makes you believe that Boyle didn t have a good relationship with
his parents. When in fact that s quite the opposite, Boyle has always been a family man and at one
point of his life he was even employed at the same school where his mom was a secretary and his
father was a janitor. (Cite this information) This is further proof that Boyle uses contradictions to the
normality of his life to create a dark

The Poem ‘Mother To Son’ By Langston Hughes First Published
The poem Mother to Son by Langston Hughes first published in 1922 and The Road not Taken by
Robert Frost have a number of similarities. These poems are parables in which experienced people
give advice about life choices. In both poems, the personas were initially in some trouble in life but
they currently have no remorse for the way they made choices and lived. Also, both poems have a
moral lesson that life may not always be easy but at the end, the choices that people make will
determine their destiny. However, the poems are considerably different in their writing style, diction,
the point of view, tone and imagery. This essay aims to compare and contrast the two poems. Though

He, however, chose the road that was less favorable to people. This road represents a road of hard
work or integrity since majority of people love short cuts to life. In the end, the speaker is not only
relieved but also proud that he took that road. He says I shall be telling this with a sigh (Frost 16). The
reason for him telling the story is to give advice because he is proud of the decision that he made.
Also, Hughes and Frost both use symbolism and imagery to bring out the picture about life. For
Hughes, the stairs symbolize the life life that has been lived through pressing on because of the
difficulties and uncertainties involved. The mother symbolizes the old generation of people who are
experienced and their role in giving advice. The old generation is familiar with life challenges that the
younger generation, symbolized by the son, are undergoing. They provide hope for the young
generation. The dark corners without light symbolize times of uncertainties, the corner symbolizes
changes experienced in life, and the climbing symbolizes difficult situations requiring extra effort and
so on. Reading through the poem a person can easily picture the life that the speaker lived.
Conversely, Frost also uses symbolism in his poem. The divergent roads that emerge as the persona is
traveling symbolize a dilemma in life. The persona needed to make a tough choice in life for it was
impossible to live a double life.

Vaccine Exemptions Must Be Protected
Joseph Mercola in his article Vaccine Exemptions Must Be Protected provides data about the nature of
vaccinations as well as current outbreak evidence to support his claim that vaccine exemptions should
be allowed. He argues that the immunity provided by vaccinations is inferior immunity (Mercola 6) in
comparison to naturally acquired immunity antibodies to a disease produced by the body after
contracting a disease. If one ignores the false assumptions about the immune system Mercola s
argument appears sound because of all the statistics of failing vaccinations. However, Mercola relies
on hasty generalization, the fallacy of reaching a hasty conclusion without evaluating all the evidence,
to conclude that vaccines are failing.
Mercola assumes that natural immunity is 100% effective and will not fail as vaccine acquired
immunity is. Because vaccines are not 100% effective, Mercola argues that people should be exempt
from mandatory vaccinations. The implication being that submitting to a vaccine that will fail in the
future is putting oneself at unnecessary risk. Mercola s argument can be reconstructed as follows...
1. If vaccines are not 100% effective, then people should be exempt from mandatory vaccinations.
2. Vaccines are not 100% effective.
Therefore, people should be exempt from mandatory vaccinations. Premise 2 depends on Mercola s
use of the fallacy of hasty generalization. He relies on three specific outbreaks (2010 California B.

Being A Hearing Impairment Problem
The world is full of people but all people are not same in terms of fate. That is why some are
physically and mentally fit while others are not lucky in this regard. The ones who are having any kind
of disability are considered as special and that is why special treatment should be given to them so that
they can be able to live their lives in an adequate manner. The disable persons especially children tend
to face so many problems. If the child is deaf then he will have to face harsh behavior of the other
children because neither he is able to express what he wants to say nor he is able to understand what
others are saying. This document deals with the problems of Michael who is a five years old child and
is having a hearing impairment problem. The document will discuss those strategies which are
necessary to be implemented in order to support Michael in a school setting. In addition to this, it will
also be discussed that in what ways Michael can be able to bridge the social and cultural gap (Javier,
2005).
Hearing Impairment: According to Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) deafness or
hearing impairment is defined as the inability of an individual to understand the verbal language due
to inability to hear. According to this definition, Michael hearing problem has also affected his ability
to understand the verbal language. The reason is that when the lesson is taught to the students, they

Violence And Its Effect On Society
Introduction The presence of violence is all around us; embedded in our everyday lives. Such acts may
be masked and subtle; while others are exposed and evident. One thing, however, is certain, a single
act of violence creates a rippling effect of repercussions. The use of violence can often leave much
longer lasting residues of violence which return again in the future (Brand Jacobsen, 2005, p. 12). This
cycle of malice and destruction must end. Thus, where does one begin to initiate change? Awareness is
key in the stand against violence. For I cannot solve the problem if I am incognizant of it preying in
plain sight. Moreover, claims of ignorance and partial justification are not acceptable excuses to
dismiss or ignore the veracity of violence among us. I believe just as violence can propagate from one
act, so can acts of peace. Reflection I am guilty of turning a blind eye in the face of violence
(structural and cultural). I have walked away and dismissed it in my mind because to acknowledge it
makes it real. And once it becomes real, I have to do something about it. By nature, I am a very
anxious person. As such, I am uncomfortable with uncharted waters and conflict. I do not instigate or
involve myself in conflict to keep my stress level at a minimum. Therefore, I adamantly avoid
situations with a propensity for violence at all costs. Until this class, I was uninformed of the various
forms of violence with the exception of direct violence. However, I believe the

Nt1210 Basic Service Set
Wireless LANs have expanded greatly and rapidly in recent years. The expansio¬¬¬¬¬n has caused
many benefits to the end users but at the same time it has introduced problem of overlapping BSS
(Basic Service Set) where BSS (i.e. WLAN cells) is fundamental block of IEEE 802.11 WLAN
architecture. OBSS occurs due to two or more unrelated BSSs are used at the same place, at the same
time and with the same frequency channel. With the expansion of channel bandwidth to 80 MHz (may
be, 160 MHz) in upcoming standards, the OBSS problem is likely to be very severe in the future. This
paper examines how OBSS can be harmful to the networks and how it can be avoided using beam
forming, distributed coordination across different APs, and power management. ... Show more content

The problem becomes intense when there are many OBSS using the same channel. The wide range
WLAN usage has caused tragedy of commons problem especially at public places. OBSS cause
problems such as low efficiency, higher congestion and low data rate. OBSS is a problem for 802.11
when it is intended to use for applications which require QoS. EDCA does not solve this problem as it
does not require other BSSs to coordinate. Admission control only solves bandwidth allocation
problem within a single network and does not address OBSS [2]. POTENTIAL SOLUTIONS A
number of solutions have been recommended in the past up to today to reduce potential interference
due to OBSS problem. Frequency channel assignment can be a solution where BSS, during initial
setup, scans the area to avoid channels that are already being used at other BSSs in the same area [1].
This solution can be useful only if the network has been carefully designed. Second solution can be
dynamic channel switching. Channel switching has the same concept like frequency channel
assignment but it periodically checks for any OBSS situation. If an AP detects other BSS on the same
channel then it will switch to different channel. A third solution can be falling back to narrow band
mode when two BSSs operate on the same channel [1]. So, if two BSSs found to be operating on same
80 MHz channel (in case of 802.11ac), they both can fall back to two different 40

The New Leader Integration Process
The book, Before Onboarding, illustrates a productive way to hire and retain quality candidates for
executive positions in a cost effective and efficient way (Burroughs, 2011). Moreover, the book
explains ways to improve the transition of the new leader, whether he or she is an internal transfer or
an outside executive. Regardless of where the new leader originated, internal or external, the process
is fundamentally the same and it consists of 6 distinct steps (Burroughs, 2011). The New Leader
Integration process is first explained to the prospective new hire and the mutual benefit for both the
new leader and the organization is explained. Primarily, a set of interviews are conducted with the
bosses, peers and direct reports with all the answers to the questions kept confidential (Burroughs,
2011). In addition, interviews may be added to include large customers, suppliers and trustees if
needed. Once the 6 steps of the process are completed, the new executive should have the necessary
knowledge of the organization, thereby improving his or her chance for success.
The benefit of using the New Leader Initiative as a means to hire the best leader for the organization is
based on a concept described as the Leadership Pipeline (Ram Charan, 2001). In this style of
leadership an individual must pass through a series of leader transitional phases, each with their own
individual defined passage (Ram Charan, 2001). If the organization ignores the inherent pitfalls of

Mississippi Burning Closing Scene Analysis
Mississippi Burning
Describe the closing scene of the text. Explain how the closing scene helped you to understand at least
one important aspect of the film.
In the film Mississippi burning, directed by Alan Parker, there are many important scenes. One that I
found most important was the closing scene. Three things that helped portray the closing scene were,
music, camera angles and their body language/facial expressions.
The music in the closing scene was sad and eerily, signaling the sadness and death that had recently
accorded. A black woman sings a song that brings hope, saying But we must walk home, by faith .
Then soon after these words are sung the rest of the group (whit and black) begin to join in. I think
this is an important part of the closing scene, because it shows that, after everything that has
happened, the blacks and whites now stand together and sing about freedom to the ones they lost. The
only disappointment in this scene is James Chaney s grave stone, which I will get to later. Ward and
Anderson stand watching the blacks and whites come together in a time of grievance. This scene
helped me understand what a big impact the KKK had on the whites. The whites could have kept their
distance from the blacks, even after the members of the KKK has been arrested, but they chose not to.
This shows that the whites were purely agreeing with the KKK out of fear. I could tell that Ward and
Anderson were happy with the peace they made after solving the case of the three missing boys.
During the closing scene, there were many camera angles used. I feel there were two important ones.
The first was the close up. The close up was used to show the grief on the peoples faces as they stood
and sang about freedom. I think the decision to use a close up in this scene was good, because it let us
see what the characters were feeling at the time. Secondly there was a panorama shot. The shot panned
from where the group was singing, all the way around to James Chaney s grave stone. This showed
how all the graves in the grave yard were still intact apart from his. I know I mention how things were
looking up, but this was a step down. I wish the movie would ve kept going, because I was eager to

Analysis Of Nothing Gold Can Stay
Nothing gold can stay was written by Robert Frost in 1923. Frost was a U.S. citizen. Frost did write a

humanity. He only gave the original to people he trusted but released this copy to the world instead.
although the original poem is about the world ending this version is about losing something new and
good so it becomes a story which makes it a narrative.
The meaning of the title of the poem is slightly hidden because it refers to the meeting of the poem,
but the meaning of the poem is hidden by figurative language. Nothing Gold can Stay could be
interpreted different from person to person however there are only 2 meanings to the title. There is no
antithesis or historical reference to this poem.
There is little repetition in this poem and there are no repeated phrases but one repeated word is gold .
This poem time frame is from spring to winter because the poem starts with the a bud then it becomes
a flower it changes then begins to die and you can arrive at this conclusion by the phrase dawn goes
down to day and nothing gold can stay. Those phrases both refer to a change whether metaphorically
or literally.
Eden is mentioned in this poem however Eden wasn t really a character in my eyes but rather a form
of personification, so kind of like mother nature but not exactly the same.
This version of the poem isn t the whole poem but rather is pieces of another different

Negative Effects Of Television And Social Media
Television and Social Media: How harmful is it?
Our social tools are not an improvement to modern society, they are a challenge to it . This signifies
that even though advances made in social media were supposed to help improve the life for everyone,
it s actually causing more serious problems within the younger and upcoming generations. Distracted
from distraction by distractions . This quote merely tells that television and social media is nothing
more than a big distraction from whats going on in the real world and what s going on around
you.Television is a valuable tool for most people, young or old, as of today most information is
delivered to the public via this technology. It can now be assessed quickly via cables or satellite,
which could provide consumers with any type of information that they would ever need, either for
work, leisure, interest and so forth. With the emergent of this media and the production of various
programs, television has caught the attention of most people. With all of this being said, Television
and social media has a more negative impact on children rather than good. This thought has been
reached because, it decreases attention spans and lowers performance in school, promotes and
advertises sexual and violent behaviors and drug use, Also it increases cyberbullying and suicide
For the past 15 years, the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) has put their concerns about a
number of time children spend viewing the television (AAP, 2001). Referring to the AAP guidelines,
children older than two years old should watch no longer than 1 to 2 hours of quality programming,
and children under two years old should not have any television viewing, as the first two years of life
is a critical period for brain development. Also, no media should be in the child s room, especially
young children. However today, it is an epidemic scenario for children to ask for their personal
television in their bedroom. In a study by Roberts, Folour, Rideout, Brodie (1999), it reported that
32% of the children between 2 to 7 years old and 65% of 8 to 18 years olds have television sets in
their bedrooms (AAP, 2001). These percentage leads to an estimation of 3 hours per day of television
and an

Determinism In Star Trek
This discussion is based a television show called Star Trek and a starship named Enterprise, who was
set out to explore the galaxy. Serving at a high respectable rank was Data, a Lt. Commander, who was
also an android, was made to mimic human behaviors like formulating relationships and the ability to
make choices. Maddox, a Commander with the Enterprise came to Starship with orders to have Data
transferred over to him. Even though Maddox was given orders to take Data for research purposes,
Data didn t want to leave. Soon enough there was a court case being held against Maddox by Picard,
Data s Commanding officer. After learning about the resignation Data filed, Maddox stepped in to
dispute the matter. Picard had plans to disassemble Data ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Are they property? (Star Trek Synopsis). Picard exhibited a materialism view towards Data. As stated
by Hasker, Does consciousness exist only in biological systems, such as humans and other animals, or
would it also arise in a properly constructed assemblage of microchips and integrated circuits? (70).
Although Data is a machine he was constructed by man and made to mimic man and his emotions.
Hasker also states, Materialism functioning according to natural laws, with the result that crucial
aspects of human existence morality, rationality, aesthetic experience, religion inevitably are either
slighted or denied altogether (72). The materialism view is very simplistic as it leaves no room to
argue. Maddox ultimately lost his case due to the multiple attempts made my Picard to prove Data has
rights and the ability to choose for himself what ultimately will happen to

How Mauna Kea Should Remain Cultural And Not Allow Project...
We are Mauna Kea Mauna Kea should remain cultural and not allow project TMT (thirty meter
telescope) on the mountain. According to Hawaiian legend, Mauna Kea is the meeting place of Papa
(Earth Mother) and Wakea (Sky Father) who are first ancestors in Hawaiian history. We as Hawaiians
view Mauna Kea as a temple or house of worship. In our cultural understanding, it is believed that
Mauna Kea was not created by man, but by Ke Akua (God). Mauna Kea is both the burial ground and
the embodiment of the most sacred ancestors. This is why I am advocating that a thirty meter
telescope, or TMT does not belong on Mauna Kea. Mauna Kea is a volcano on the island of Hawai i
that is sacred to Native Hawaiians as an elder ancestor and the physical embodiment of deities revered
in Hawaiian culture and religion. According to Kay Ala Kahaulelio, a Hawaiian astronomer and
student at University of Hawaii, he says, the sacredness of Mauna Kea is beyond what we can
comprehend in the human realm. It is so scared because it is the portal and the closest temple where
we can connect with our God. In Hawaiian genealogy, Mauna Kea is perceived as the center of ones
being. It holds burial grounds and is a place where people scatter ashes of their loved ones. On Mauna
Kea there are a total of 13 telescopes a number that I feel is too high that there are enough telescopes
on Mauna Kea. Currently, there are thirteen working telescopes being operated by astronomers from
11 different countries, so why do

  • 3. Urbanization Of The United States When we take a look on our current life, we definitely will not be strange to everything surrounding us. But what if we lived in the past and traveled to the present, we must be shocked by this great urbanization in our city. What is urbanization? Urbanization is defined as the process by which towns and cities are formed and become larger as more and more people begin living and working in central areas. In Boston, the government sets up a freedom trail that reflects the history of the United States. However, there is also a latest freedom trail that is constructed by my own, which shows how urbanization in Boston was going step by step. The core factors indicated by this new freedom trail are trade, immigration, education and manufacturing. Long Wharf is the first stop. It was constructed around 1710 in downtown Boston. Why does Long Wharf play a determined role in the development of urbanization? Going through the history, when the British colonists came to Boston, they were seeking to find clean water for survival. They began to set up home around the Quonehassit and then built Long Wharf. From the geographical point of view, Long Wharf was at the mouth of several rivers extending inland, which made a naturally ideal port. At the time of the society and even today s society, trade is essential in the survival of the community. By looking at trade between one colonial and another colonial, and between the New England region and the other countries, Long Wharf ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 6. Analysis Of The s Metamorphosis One major difference Apuleius makes in his depiction of Psyche is that he places a premise in her original encounter with Cupid she is not allowed to know his identity nor to see his face. The sequence of Psyche s acquaintance with her lover, in fact, plays quite an important role in the story. People often say that, To see is to believe. However, it is not always the case. Under the circumstance of love, what one sees will be highly deceptive, as it is human nature that one will prefer individuals with charming faces or distinguished reputations and thus more easily fall victim to his/her biased judgement. Without the intervention of illusive perception, Psyche senses the concern from her husband more distinctly by heart, and consequently enforces their association in later time. (outwardly attractive) Some might argue that even though Psyche might take advantages of learning about the true characteristics of her husband by her mind and soul instead of her eyes, the fact that she can neither perceive Cupid s appearance nor get information about his life span still violates their relationship; Otherwise, Psyche will never try to ascertain Cupid s identity. Nevertheless, to grasp the real essence does not imply that Psyche should never have knowledge of Cupid; instead, to know a person in a comprehensive way, both the interior nature and the exterior features are crucial. The thing that matters is the chronology of the cognitive process. In Psyche s situation, she manages to decipher her husband to form their mental ties before she actually catches sight of him, and after that her discovery of Cupid s truth constructs a more inseparable interconnection rooted with her intellectual comprehension, much ... • 7. Sexualization Of Women In Video Games Does the sexualization of women in video games affect women s self esteem and perpetuate female stereotypes? Annika Lindburg Linfield College Introduction It is difficult to find a video game that does not depict females as a damsel in distress or a sex object. The target audience for video games has been males, and video game companies are marketing to males with stereotypes of females in video games. A surprising finding is that around 150 million Americans, or almost half of women play video games (Kelleher, 2015). Yet video games continue to depict females as old fashioned stereotypes that leave a lasting affect on a female s health. How are women in video games treated? Video games are created from a male perspective that is exaggerating female s sexual or feminine traits (Near, 2013). Part of the problem is the lack of diversity in the gaming industry. Most game developers are men, which result in less sexism on purpose, and more of a diversity problem among video game creators (Ferguson, 2015). If there were more females in the video game industry, there would be more realistic female avatars in video games. Royse et al. (2007) argued that the gaming industry has begun to make games for females like Dance Dance Revolution and Eyetoy but that females are still wrongly thought of as having one perspective or experience. Since the majority of video game writers are males, they create video games that interest them and their target audience. Near (2013) found that predominantly male audiences identify better with a male avatar than a female one. Thus males write a stereotypical script in which a woman is scantily clad and needs to be saved which brings them revenue and further undermines a women s self ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

These original colonists quickly established many small towns in the name of high religious ideals and strict societal rules. Another example of the rigidness of the colony was that if a person were to miss a sermon without just cause, they were to be placed in a pillory and have their ear nailed to it. Simplicity was a key element in worship as there were no candles, religious ritual, or decoration. Emphasis was solely placed on the sermon. Puritans did not participate in traditional holidays as it was thought to be sacrilegious. Dramatic plays along with any form of gambling were banned also. Conclusions were drawn that proposed method was able to solve problems having 1300 binary variables in 3 CPU seconds, but branch and cut solver takes 2500 CPU seconds. Teams now had the option, and availability to travel to different towns and play teams from all over the country. As his essay unfolds, he makes it clear that messaging must be multi faceted implementing color, interactive elements and animations to truly evoke a substantial response in the viewer. Otherwise, printed data alone as with language alone simply cannot accomplish the same level of human connection. In sum, to be effective the message needs movement, color, and human influence. The viewer must feel that they are an active part in the data in order to feel most connected to it. Similarly, this is the case in the viral video messaging and film of today s world. None other than Bill James, a widely known baseball writer, noted that the perceived strategy is actually very trite, predictable, and actually nonstrategic. Instead of manager s deciding on what substitution, or lack thereof, can give their team an advantage, they are forced with situations in which they must bunt, must pinch hit, and must double switch. As James notes, the American League game allows a true option, and thus true strategy. This means that whatever AL managers decide to do when it comes to offensive batting substitutions, they do so to benefit their team, not because they are forced to do so (Meehan, 2013). These substitutions, including the commonly used double switch where a pinch hitter is substituted for the pitcher and the next inning is substituted again for a relief pitcher, take up time in the game. It is significantly a problem in the MLB where the longevity and the slow pace of the game has caused many fans to get bored sitting through a full nine innings. Especially with the addition of instant replay, the game continues to get longer and it has become a challenge for many fans to watch an entire game. Brian Costa, sports reporter for the Wall Street Journal, wrote an article about the reasons for the length and slow pace of the game. • 23. Historical Poetry Essay Literature 115 003 April 22, 2010 Donna Craine The Hit Man s Contradiction T. Coraghessan Boyle is a unique modern author whose work is a mixture of humor and social exploration. Boyle seems to have a very morbid sense of humor; most of what he writes pushes the envelope and challenges the meaning of what humor is. T. C. Boyle was born on December 2, 1948. He grew up in a small town in Iowa and first had dreams of being a musician. To this day Boyle still performs in a garage band and is very passionate about music. Boyle quickly realized in college that he could not make a living from music and drifted through classes until liberal arts became his passion. He responds to the Hit Man s knock, expresses surprise at the Hit Man s appearance. The Hit Man takes Cynthia by the elbow, presses a twenty into her father s palm, and disappears into the night. This is a very unique first date story even for the culture of the 80 s which seemed to be more sexually open than ever before. On an average first date the male usually tries to impress the father and gets a lecture about what time he should safely bring the daughter home. But the Hit Man is different and Boyle creates these differences by contrasting the Hit Man to the social norms of the eighties. The next major event of the story I find conflicting with the history of T. C. Boyle is when the narrator skims over the death of the Hit Man s parents. The narrator only gives this event in the Hit Man s life five lines of the story. When the Hit Man s mother is in the, Hospital dying of cancer or heart disease, or something the Hit Man doesn t even care; he is out shooting pool, lifting weights and drinking milk from the carton. Briefly skimming over these events makes you believe that Boyle didn t have a good relationship with his parents. When in fact that s quite the opposite, Boyle has always been a family man and at one point of his life he was even employed at the same school where his mom was a secretary and his father was a janitor. • 26. The Poem ‘Mother To Son’ By Langston Hughes First Published The poem Mother to Son by Langston Hughes first published in 1922 and The Road not Taken by Robert Frost have a number of similarities. These poems are parables in which experienced people give advice about life choices. In both poems, the personas were initially in some trouble in life but they currently have no remorse for the way they made choices and lived. Also, both poems have a moral lesson that life may not always be easy but at the end, the choices that people make will determine their destiny. However, the poems are considerably different in their writing style, diction, the point of view, tone and imagery. This essay aims to compare and contrast the two poems. This road represents a road of hard work or integrity since majority of people love short cuts to life. In the end, the speaker is not only relieved but also proud that he took that road. He says I shall be telling this with a sigh (Frost 16). The reason for him telling the story is to give advice because he is proud of the decision that he made. Also, Hughes and Frost both use symbolism and imagery to bring out the picture about life. For Hughes, the stairs symbolize the life life that has been lived through pressing on because of the difficulties and uncertainties involved. The mother symbolizes the old generation of people who are experienced and their role in giving advice. The old generation is familiar with life challenges that the younger generation, symbolized by the son, are undergoing. They provide hope for the young generation. The dark corners without light symbolize times of uncertainties, the corner symbolizes changes experienced in life, and the climbing symbolizes difficult situations requiring extra effort and so on. Reading through the poem a person can easily picture the life that the speaker lived. Conversely, Frost also uses symbolism in his poem. The divergent roads that emerge as the persona is traveling symbolize a dilemma in life. The persona needed to make a tough choice in life for it was impossible to live a double life. ... • 27. Vaccine Exemptions Must Be Protected Joseph Mercola in his article Vaccine Exemptions Must Be Protected provides data about the nature of vaccinations as well as current outbreak evidence to support his claim that vaccine exemptions should be allowed. He argues that the immunity provided by vaccinations is inferior immunity (Mercola 6) in comparison to naturally acquired immunity antibodies to a disease produced by the body after contracting a disease. If one ignores the false assumptions about the immune system Mercola s argument appears sound because of all the statistics of failing vaccinations. However, Mercola relies on hasty generalization, the fallacy of reaching a hasty conclusion without evaluating all the evidence, to conclude that vaccines are failing. Mercola assumes that natural immunity is 100% effective and will not fail as vaccine acquired immunity is. Because vaccines are not 100% effective, Mercola argues that people should be exempt from mandatory vaccinations. The implication being that submitting to a vaccine that will fail in the future is putting oneself at unnecessary risk. Mercola s argument can be reconstructed as follows... 1. If vaccines are not 100% effective, then people should be exempt from mandatory vaccinations. 2. Vaccines are not 100% effective. Therefore, people should be exempt from mandatory vaccinations. Premise 2 depends on Mercola s use of the fallacy of hasty generalization. He relies on three specific outbreaks (2010 California B. Pertussis, 2010 New Jersey/New ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 29. Violence And Its Effect On Society Introduction The presence of violence is all around us; embedded in our everyday lives. Such acts may be masked and subtle; while others are exposed and evident. One thing, however, is certain, a single act of violence creates a rippling effect of repercussions. The use of violence can often leave much longer lasting residues of violence which return again in the future (Brand Jacobsen, 2005, p. 12). This cycle of malice and destruction must end. Thus, where does one begin to initiate change? Awareness is key in the stand against violence. For I cannot solve the problem if I am incognizant of it preying in plain sight. Moreover, claims of ignorance and partial justification are not acceptable excuses to dismiss or ignore the veracity of violence among us. I believe just as violence can propagate from one act, so can acts of peace. Reflection I am guilty of turning a blind eye in the face of violence (structural and cultural). I have walked away and dismissed it in my mind because to acknowledge it makes it real. And once it becomes real, I have to do something about it. By nature, I am a very anxious person. OBSS occurs due to two or more unrelated BSSs are used at the same place, at the same time and with the same frequency channel. With the expansion of channel bandwidth to 80 MHz (may be, 160 MHz) in upcoming standards, the OBSS problem is likely to be very severe in the future. This paper examines how OBSS can be harmful to the networks and how it can be avoided using beam forming, distributed coordination across different APs, and power management. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The problem becomes intense when there are many OBSS using the same channel. The wide range WLAN usage has caused tragedy of commons problem especially at public places. OBSS cause problems such as low efficiency, higher congestion and low data rate. OBSS is a problem for 802.11 when it is intended to use for applications which require QoS. EDCA does not solve this problem as it does not require other BSSs to coordinate. Admission control only solves bandwidth allocation problem within a single network and does not address OBSS [2]. POTENTIAL SOLUTIONS A number of solutions have been recommended in the past up to today to reduce potential interference due to OBSS problem. Frequency channel assignment can be a solution where BSS, during initial setup, scans the area to avoid channels that are already being used at other BSSs in the same area [1]. This solution can be useful only if the network has been carefully designed. Second solution can be dynamic channel switching. Channel switching has the same concept like frequency channel assignment but it periodically checks for any OBSS situation. If an AP detects other BSS on the same channel then it will switch to different channel. A third solution can be falling back to narrow band mode when two BSSs operate on the same channel [1]. So, if two BSSs found to be operating on same 80 MHz channel (in case of 802.11ac), they both can fall back to two different 40 ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The New Leader Integration Process The book, Before Onboarding, illustrates a productive way to hire and retain quality candidates for executive positions in a cost effective and efficient way (Burroughs, 2011). Moreover, the book explains ways to improve the transition of the new leader, whether he or she is an internal transfer or an outside executive. Regardless of where the new leader originated, internal or external, the process is fundamentally the same and it consists of 6 distinct steps (Burroughs, 2011). The New Leader Integration process is first explained to the prospective new hire and the mutual benefit for both the new leader and the organization is explained. Primarily, a set of interviews are conducted with the bosses, peers and direct reports with all the answers to the questions kept confidential (Burroughs, 2011). In addition, interviews may be added to include large customers, suppliers and trustees if needed. Once the 6 steps of the process are completed, the new executive should have the necessary knowledge of the organization, thereby improving his or her chance for success. The benefit of using the New Leader Initiative as a means to hire the best leader for the organization is based on a concept described as the Leadership Pipeline (Ram Charan, 2001). In this style of leadership an individual must pass through a series of leader transitional phases, each with their own individual defined passage (Ram Charan, 2001). Explain how the closing scene helped you to understand at least one important aspect of the film. In the film Mississippi burning, directed by Alan Parker, there are many important scenes. One that I found most important was the closing scene. Three things that helped portray the closing scene were, music, camera angles and their body language/facial expressions. The music in the closing scene was sad and eerily, signaling the sadness and death that had recently accorded. A black woman sings a song that brings hope, saying But we must walk home, by faith . Then soon after these words are sung the rest of the group (whit and black) begin to join in. I think this is an important part of the closing scene, because it shows that, after everything that has happened, the blacks and whites now stand together and sing about freedom to the ones they lost. The only disappointment in this scene is James Chaney s grave stone, which I will get to later. Ward and Anderson stand watching the blacks and whites come together in a time of grievance. This scene helped me understand what a big impact the KKK had on the whites. The whites could have kept their distance from the blacks, even after the members of the KKK has been arrested, but they chose not to. This shows that the whites were purely agreeing with the KKK out of fear. I could tell that Ward and Anderson were happy with the peace they made after solving the case of the three missing boys. During the closing scene, there were many camera angles used. I feel there were two important ones. The first was the close up. The close up was used to show the grief on the peoples faces as they stood and sang about freedom. I think the decision to use a close up in this scene was good, because it let us see what the characters were feeling at the time. Secondly there was a panorama shot. The shot panned from where the group was singing, all the way around to James Chaney s grave stone. This showed how all the graves in the grave yard were still intact apart from his. This signifies that even though advances made in social media were supposed to help improve the life for everyone, it s actually causing more serious problems within the younger and upcoming generations. Distracted from distraction by distractions . This quote merely tells that television and social media is nothing more than a big distraction from whats going on in the real world and what s going on around you.Television is a valuable tool for most people, young or old, as of today most information is delivered to the public via this technology. It can now be assessed quickly via cables or satellite, which could provide consumers with any type of information that they would ever need, either for work, leisure, interest and so forth. With the emergent of this media and the production of various programs, television has caught the attention of most people. With all of this being said, Television and social media has a more negative impact on children rather than good. This thought has been reached because, it decreases attention spans and lowers performance in school, promotes and advertises sexual and violent behaviors and drug use, Also it increases cyberbullying and suicide For the past 15 years, the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) has put their concerns about a number of time children spend viewing the television (AAP, 2001). Referring to the AAP guidelines, children older than two years old should watch no longer than 1 to 2 hours of quality programming, and children under two years old should not have any television viewing, as the first two years of life is a critical period for brain development. Also, no media should be in the child s room, especially young children. However today, it is an epidemic scenario for children to ask for their personal television in their bedroom. In a study by Roberts, Folour, Rideout, Brodie (1999), it reported that 32% of the children between 2 to 7 years old and 65% of 8 to 18 years olds have television sets in their bedrooms (AAP, 2001).
