Blade Runner Research Papers
Blade Runner, adapted from the book Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?, is the cornerstone
science fiction movie of it s time. It s neon lights and overcrowded megalopolis culture helped define
what an entire generation thought of the future. In the movie, a nuclear war makes it necessary for off
world colonies to be made. These colonies employ replicants, genetically designed androids with no
emotions that are identical to humans, as slave labor. After an attack by rebellious replicants, they
were banned on the earth. A police force was made to kill, or retire, these rogue replicants. These
killers were known as blade runners. After a group of replicants infiltrate the earth, a former blade

One particular group, led by Osama bin Laden, used these funds later to form Al Qaeda, a terrorist
organization which has been an ever present thorn in the side of the US since the 90s.
These consequences, among others, demonstrate the consequences of a society driven by fear. This is
reflected in the world of Blade Runner, where people live in fear and paranoia of the replicants,
creating tests to find these replicants and creating a police force for killing them. It even got to the
point where replicant life spans were shortened to prevent them from developing emotion. Like the
US government, the people of the world of Blade Runner ignored how the discrimination would affect
those discriminated against.
Roy, the last replicant, said to be a slave is to live in fear . This was what the replicants were subjected
to. The fear of death, the fear of being killed by blade runners, it was all very real for the replicants.
The humans were also slaves. They were bound by their fear of replicants, which pushed them to
enact all the processes against the

In the past, large organizations have implemented language assessments aimed to assess learners
ability in the use of language in higher education. These high stake tests plays a vital role when
decisions made on individual performance and its outcome is considered as a diagnosis of the learners

writing score is considered by most universities a benchmark against learners success in higher

Scholars perception of the rating process in writing assessments
In terms of rating process in writing assessments, pioneer studies in the field has construct distinct
themes of raters position in the rating process. The process was earlier addressed as decision making
process which evokes the raters cognitive thoughts, commonly effected by memory constraints, to
retrieve related information.(Cumming,1990;Lumley,2002;Baker ,2012) Raters of this process
perform by comparing similar constructions in written essays to rating scales.Retention of the
retrieved information are eventually affected by individual experiences and background. The
psychological process relies on the integration of former information that finally develop into a final
score. Since the final product of each rating process is a holistic score that has different interpretations
according the scale used in the rating process, the notion that such score may ignore to describe the
learner qualifications were raised.Weigle (2002) was able to show that raters often rate holistically
when using an analytic rating scale and adjust their scores to match the analytic criteria. Alderson
(2005) also suggests that diagnostic tests should focus on specific abilities rather than global
abilities.According to these reasons, other reseachers believe that rating is merely an interaction
between the rater and three certain things that is the essay, the task and the scale

Essay On The Origin Of The Civil Rights Movement
The civil rights motion turned into a warfare via African individuals within the mid Nineteen Fifties to
late Nineteen Sixties to attain civil rights same to those of whites, which include identical possibility
in employment, housing, and schooling, as well as the right to vote, the proper of identical access to
public centers, and the proper to be freed from racial discrimination. No social or political movement
of the 20 the century has had as profound an impact at the criminal and political establishments of
America. This movement sought to repair to African individuals the rights of citizenship assured by
means of the Fourteenth and 15th Amendments, which have been eroded by using segregationist Jim
Crowe legal guidelines in the South. It basically altered members of the family among the federal

By 1909, blacks and whites together had formed the National Association for the Advancement of
Colored People (NAACP) which became a leading organization in the cause of civil rights for African
Americans. From its beginning, the NAACP and its attorneys challenged many discriminatory laws in
court, but it was not until after World War II that a widespread movement for civil rights gathered
force. The war itself contributed to the origins of the movement. When African Americans who had
fought for their country returned home, they more openly resisted being treated as second class
citizens. The movement s first major legal victory came in 1954, when the NAACP won Brown v.
Board of Education of Topeka, Kansas, in which the Supreme Court struck down laws segregating
white and black children into different public elementary schools. With Brown, it became apparent

Conformity And Its Effect On Society
In today life people generally tend to conform in many situations to blend in and to live their life
peacefully. They may feel safer doing so and more acceptable by society if they don t stick out with
ideas opposite or different to the main stream .
To answer the question what is CONFORMITY we ca use the description of psychologists who
described it as: The most general concept and refers to any change in behaviour caused by another
person or group; the individual acted in some way because of influence from others. (Breckler, 2006)
Conformity can be caused by different reasons. For some people it will be a way of looking for clues
of how to behave, as other people may have better knowledge or experience than we, and it can be
helpful and informative for us to follow them.
Other example of conformity is when people conform because they want to be accepted by a group,
they want to be a part something, and they don t want to be pounced on them.
Another reason for people to conform is to follow someone s style to look alike as it can come across
positive perception from peers.
Harvard psychologist Herbert Kelman identified three major types of conformity, which were based
on his experiments and research. These are as follow:
Compliance is referred to changing the behaviour publicly, to fit in group despite the fact that
privately we don t agree with it.
The very good example of such conformity is Ash s experiment, when despite the obvious answer
people gave a different

Ralph Waldo Emerson s Ideology Of Self Identity
In the essay, Self Reliance, Ralph Waldo Emerson s ideology of self identity is impractical today
because the media has hindered society from developing our true identities. The use of social media is
ruining this generation s real life social skills. According to Social Media Today, an online community
for professionals, The amount of time people spend on social media is constantly increasing. Teens
now spend up to nine hours a day on social platforms, while 30% of all time spent online is now
allocated to social media interaction. Texting or online communications does not allow people to truly
express themselves for who they truly are. There is a loss of social and personal development
communicating through social media. For instance, people online are unable to use body language,
tone, voice and facial expressions through a text. An article on The Telegraph, pointed out that One in
four people spend more time socialising online, using sites such as Facebook, than they do in person,
according to research. The study also found that even when there is an opportunity to see people face
to face, on weekends for example, up to 11% of adults still prefer to stay at home and communicate on
their devices instead. (USA Today). The problem with socialising online is that affects a person s
ability to communicate properly in face to face interactions. The person will feel a sense of social
anxiety and not project their voice loud enough for their audience to hear them. For

Kick Asss Is A Superhero
Every single comic fan has dreamed to be a superhero, Mark Millar, creator of Kick Ass comic states
in his interview. Millar addresses the superhero fantasies that the intended audience of the superhero
action comic and movie Kick Ass sometimes marveled at (Multipleverses). Dave Lizewski, the main
protagonist of Kick Ass, has a similar dream to the comic s audience; he also wants to become a
superhero. Dave is an average comic lover that turns into a superhero without the qualities many of
the iconic superheroes posses that follow the superhero conventions, such as extraordinary power,

The audience is given a typical scene that a film, which follows the superhero conventions, may
contain, films such as The Dark Knight (Wired). Though the film begins with a scene following a
superhero genre convention, it is immediately undermined when the man clad in the superhero
costume ultimately falls to his death. The scene is utilized to emphasize the point that the film isn t
another typical superhero movie, what happens in real life will occur in the movie. The man trying to
be super instead of a hero is described as one with a history of mental instability. The film ridicules the
idea of a superhero being one with superhuman powers. As Mathew Vaughn describe in his interview,
Dave is an every day kid, [a] peter parker and doesn t get bitten by a spider (Empire). Mathew Vaughn
believes that a superhero can exist in real life and that it can be any person who s extraordinary, not
through the surface, but through the heroism of one s self. The film emphasizes this point by making
Dave, Big Daddy, and Hit Girl, the three characters that displays the most heroism, different from the
other characters.
The difference between the characters is made apparent early on in the movie. In the scene, when
Dave mentions to his friends Todd and Marty that it s not impossible to putting on a mask and helping
people, his friends describes his idea as psycho. Dave s friends ridicules at his perception of a

Compare And Contrast Nevada Constitution And Us Constitution
Constitutions are ordinances set forth by a legislative body to establish the foundations of a
government. The United States of America wrote their constitution to set the rules in place for the
branches of government, their separate powers, and the limitations of the federal government. Since
the United States operates under a federalist government, each state is responsible for establishing
their own governments. There arise the states constitutions. There are inevitable differences between
the content of a constitution of a state versus that of the federal government. In this essay, we will be

Constitution are called the Bill of Rights, they outlined the civil liberties as a citizen of the United
States. Civil liberties are the restrictions of powers the government has on the citizens. For example,
freedom of speech, freedom of the press, no government established religion, and the right to a jury
trial are all examples of liberties the government cannot deny its citizens. According to the Supreme
Court case Barron v. Baltimore in 1833, none of the provisions in the Bill of Rights applied to the
states, they only applied to the federal government and their restrictions (Bowers 43). However, the
authors of Nevada s 1864 constitution included their own Bill of Rights named the Declaration of
Rights. The Declaration of Rights included all of the same principles that the Bill of Rights did such as
the ones listed above. There are two significant differences between the two sets of amendments. For
one, the Nevada constitution requires compensation before the government can seize private property,
the U.S. constitution does not have the same requirement. Second, civil cases in Nevada only require a
three fourths vote to make a decision, federal civil cases require a unanimous decision. However, in
criminal cases, both Nevada and the federal government require a unanimous

The Government And State Government
In understanding the way governments works on a local level, we must first understand that national
government and state government are not the same. The United States uses a system called Federalism
which is a decentralization of the responsibilities of the government. In other words, power is divided
amongst the national and subnational governments all while maintaining a separate and autonomous
authority (Dye Macmanus 56). The purpose for this system is to make sure the national government
doesn t turn into a tyrannical power over the people. This ideology of separation of powers goes even
deeper within the national government and state governments infrastructure. For example, the national
government is divided into 3 main branches, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Each state is governed by these two chambers in their respective state. Due to the autonomy of each
state in the union, services provided and positions on critical issues may vary across states. Moreover,
there is the cultural aspect within each state that plays an influential role in how each state is
governed.
The state of Florida follows the same infrastructure as the national government as far as legislature.
Florida has its own constitution and its legislature is comprised of the two chambers mentioned earlier,
which are the senate and the House of Representatives. Not all states have both chambers and what s
called a bicameral legislature. Nebraska has only one chamber, and thus considered to have a
unicameral legislature. Florida Senate chamber has 40 senators with Joe Negron as president of the
senate. These senators must live in the district of which they serve in. The house of representatives has
120 Representatives with Richard Corcoran as the Speaker of the house. Both chambers are made up
of democratic and republican members.
States such as Florida also has elections which are held for political positions not only in legislature,
but also positions such as Governor. In Florida, the governor is Rick Scott and he is the 45th governor
of Florida. The qualifications to be elected as Florida Governor is you must be no younger than 30

Racial Diversity In Social Media
In todays world of near total dependence on the internet, it becomes increasingly noticed that our
popular culture is defined by the racially diverse nature of most social media platforms. Social media
is well known as a catalyst for any activism or social reformation movements that occur nearly every
day around the world. Platforms such as Facebook or Twitter often start debates over things that
happen online, on television, or in the real world. Those who use interactive multimedia are very
racially diverse and bring unique ideas and arguments to the international community of the internet.
However, it is apparent that both Twitter and Facebook have varied approaches when inviting those of
racial diversity onto their platforms and making them feel welcomed there. It has become an accepted
business practice to meet a certain quota of hiring from diverse racial groups. This trend of identifying
racial diversity began with the idea of setting targets has its roots in affirmative action policies in the
US and South Africa (Jacobs, 1). Previous social movements resulted in the push to identify numbers
regarding grouping those of different ethnic groups. As of the year 2016, the United States
government issued a three hundred dollar diversity fund (Jacobs, 2) to identify the rate of hiring
diverse groupings. Companies began to feel pressure from social activism resulting in this new quota
that they must meet to stay respected within the community of those who fight for diversity on the
internet.
While the expansion of hiring those of diverse brackets can create a positive professional and
educational atmosphere, it can also create a feeling of tension between those separate groups. It is
feared that meeting the diversity percentage issued by the United States government may overshadow
those who may work hard for a job or college acceptance. However, by employing a diverse
workforce, a company has the ability to have different perspective on racially sensitive topics. If
someone of similar racial backgrounds marketed a product used predominantly by one race, then it
would result in the possibility of increased sales. Both Facebook and Twitter have been feuding over
power and recognition since the 2000 s as

Retirement plan has its advantage and disadvantage. Mostly it is based on the choice of the

Grouping People Based on Stereotypes
Harold Evans once said, Attempting to get at truth means rejecting stereotypes and clichés . Yet at
some points stereotypes help us to gain a truth that would otherwise have to be learnt over and over
again, each time we encountered it. When trying to view the world, one must realise that by grouping
people based on stereotypes, they are allowing themselves to recognise different peoples, threats, ideas
and many other different aspects of society. Whether this grouping has any real basis or not is the
entire argument within this essay. Analysing this concept through theory of knowledge means that at
least two areas of knowledge need to be recognised. This essay will be discussing it through both a
human sciences perspective, more specifically with relation to psychology, and also the arts, through
film, something in which even recently stereotypes are very common. Extracting a knowledge issue
from this question is difficult as the topic is already so broad however for the purposes of this essay, a
few words within the title will first be defined. When defining stereotypes it needs to be spilt up to
function in both the psychological sense but also the area of film and literature. In psychology the
definition of a stereotype is a set of generalizations about a group of people or a social category. It
may be correct or incorrect. Mostly, these statements are exaggerated. However if we were to define
stereotypes in the arts then it would be different, as it would be more

High Index Lenses Research Paper
High index lenses are thin, lightweight, and compatible with a variety of attractive and stylish frames.
That s all well and good but what about outdoor use? Are there high index sunglasses? Users of 1.67
or 1.74 high index lenses face a problem similar to those using prescription glasses with a lower index.
Two options are wearing a pair of flat sunglasses over the prescription glasses, or using clip ons. Apart
from the chunkiness and less than stylish appearance of wearing two pairs of glasses, there s the
problem of carrying around the sunglasses. It s an extra complication, which means that sometimes
you won t have them when needed, you can lose them, and all that handling increases the risk of
scratching or damaging them.
On the other hand, clip ons are easier to carry around, and look better. But again, it s one more thing

They can interfere with some digital displays and they cut down light intensity. Less light transmission
makes them less than useful indoors and dangerous at night. They are meant for use in outdoor
daylight.
Unless you intend to have two separate high index glasses for indoor/night and outdoor/day use,
applying a transition tint is a better option. Transition tints respond to bright sunlight by darkening into
sunglasses, but become clear when you re indoors and at night.
Transition tints can take a few minutes to adjust either way, and are activated by UV light. If your car
s windshield blocks UV, then the tint won t darken. However, an inexpensive clip on kept in the glove
compartment is a good work around for this problem. Transition gray and transition brown tints are

increases contrast. Transition tints also block out all UV light.

Chief Executive Officers (which will be referred to as CEOs for the remainder of this paper) is
arguably the most prestigious position an individual can hold in the business world. There is no
disputing the high level of responsibility necessary to manage the operations and resources of any
company, while also being the key figure between the company s board of directors and the
stakeholders which are effected as a result of the company s actions. Despite the high level of
responsibility, it is worth asking a question that has been up for debate not just in recent years, but for
the past several decades, which is whether or not CEO compensation can be justified? Just to put into

The short answer is no. I firmly believe that today s CEOs are overpaid as a result of the use of stock
options as a pay initiative; rewarding CEOs with huge severance packages regardless of whether they
bring success to the company or not; and because they are essentially overpaid managers
Stock Options are one of the Main Culprits for Overcompensation of CEOs
If we break down how CEOs are generally paid we may look at their base salary, which can range
from approximately $300,000 upwards to between 4 and 5 million for Canada s top executives. What
the average person may not be informed about is the additional compensation that is available to be
earned from bonuses, stock options, and other payments on top of the base salary. Canada s Highest
earning CEO in 2015, Gerald W. Schwartz of Onex Corporation, made $86.5 Million of his total $87.9
Million salary from other such forms of compensation. Stock options are typically used as a form of
compensation because they offer the CEO an incentive laden form of salary that in theory will make
the CEO make decisions in the best interest of the shareholders, and if share prices go up they too are
rewarded. Stock options are truly a no lose situation for the CEO, because they are not required to pay
for the options and in the event of share price

Representatives of 50 nations met in San Francisco in April through June 1945 to complete the
Charter of the United Nations.
(Messerli,Joe. 2017) The Roosevelt Administration strove at their best and strongest ability to avoid
the mistakes Woodrow Wilson made in the failure of the League of Nations and as well as selling the
League of Nations to the Senate of the United States Of America. This oddly sought bicameral support
from the Republican Party ( Roosevelt s Administration was purely Democrat ) and the Republican
Party endorsed the United States participation in a postwar international organization, in which
Congress overwhelmingly endorsed participation, with a 77% approval rate from Congress itself.
Roosevelt as well sought to convince the public that an international organization was needed and it
would be the best interest to prevent future conflicts in the future. The Senate approved the UN
Charter on July 28, 1945, by a vote of 89 to 2. The United Nations came into existence on October

Comparing The Philosophies Of Michael Pollan And Raj Patel
The world continues to face a wide scale food crisis. The effects of this crisis reach from the farmers
who grow and raise the food to the very system of laws that are in place to govern the system itself.
Food giants are reaching deep into their pockets for lobbying in order to take advantage of both the
producers and the consumer all in the name of profit. Moreover, farmers are being driven to suicide,
and the ecosystem s livelihood is treading a fine line. Both Michael Pollan and Raj Patel bring to light
these problems and offer suggestions to help lessen their severity. Though there are many philosophies
on which they both agree, they both have their own ideas to fight back. Pollan seeks to challenge the
consumer as an individual while ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The three contingencies of Patel s plan include changing the governing laws of agribusiness,
improving the conditions of and supporting rural areas, and changing the role of eating in society.
Before much progress can be made, the ways in which businesses are required to operate must change.
Without any new legislations to stand in their way, nothing will alter the ways in which they operate or
the ways they look to further solidify their dominance. Next, rural growers simply need more help. In
current conditions, they barely scrape by due to the increasing demands from their purchasers and the
decreasing amounts of compensation collected. Contrary to the original perception, crop subsidies,
most associated with corn, provide no help to these smaller farmers. They can t compete with the mass
growers and their enormous swathes of land. It drives the rural farmers out of those particular markets,
and it often prevents them from growing crops their land is most suitable for. Finally, Pollan pushes
the idea that there must be a revamp of the meaning of food to consumers. As it stands, people view
eating as a task rather than an enjoyable experience. This leads the consumer to think little of the food,
especially in ways Michael Pollan insist they must think about the food. This anti cooking architecture
of society is, nonetheless, a self perpetuating cycle of

The Spanish Colonization Of Latin America Essay
Because the Indians and Spanish lived in different areas in Latin America, the Indian culture and
society did not change significantly. Or did there society change? The Spanish colonizers had a huge
influence on the indigenous peoples of Mexico and Peru s, culture, language, traditions, religion, even
on their native food. One can say that this came into being shortly after Columbus discovered the New
World. The Spanish conquistadors, who sailed with Columbus to the New World, were the first to
leave their mark on the new territory. We still see some of these traditions in today s society. The
Spanish taught the Indians of their oral traditions of legends and jokes, music, food, beliefs, and
customs. The Indians even picked up on their native tongue, Spanish, and used it as their own and still
do to this day. There are many things in the Mexican culture which have contributed to the shaping
and molding of the modern Latino society, such as the Mexican history, culture, language, religion,
and traditions.
The Indigenous culture is not simply a blend of Mexico used to be, but the results of a unique
historical process that developed with an originality all its own. This culture was divided into many
different social classes after the Spanish took the reins. Like they started to develop a governmental
system for the Indigenous people and they started to tax them with the Bourbon Reforms. Many
Indigenous people hated the thought of this so they took matters in to their own

This project will focus on the British criminal justice system in the 1950s regarding juvenile
behaviour. The research will explore the ways used to prevent juvenile crime, the social and
psychological motivation for crime, and the way that the criminal justice system aimed to rehabilitate
those convicted of a juvenile offence. To explore these areas an understanding of delinquency, and its
consequences is needed. According to Wirt and Briggs delinquency involves personal suffering as well

Modern Records Centre Practicalities
On Wednesday 6th March I contacted the Modern Records Centre via e mail regarding the documents
I would like to view. I found this relatively straight forward with the pre prepared catalogue for the
making history project and the database section on juvenile delinquents in the 1950s. I asked to see ten
files that I later discovered contained various documents. This made my task a little harder as there
was more material to read. However, in hindsight this helped to gain an overview for the task ahead. I
photographed the documents most relevant to my research for further analysis at home, whilst
considering maintaining a balance of newspaper articles, photographs and texts. Practically this
enabled me to progress with the project without being restricted to the Modern Records Centre. I also
gave great importance to recording the origin of any information, making a note of the reference codes

Corruption in the Public Sector and Service Delivery
CORRUPTION IN THE PUBLIC SECTOR AND SERVICE DELIVERY A Paper presentation at the
ROUNDTABLE ON REVIEW OF GOVERNANCE INDEX AND SECURITY IN NIGERIA
Held in
THE NATIONAL DEFENCE COLLEGE, NIGERIA
22ND MAY, 2013
Protocol
Introduction
The Public Sector in Nigeria is charged with the responsibility of providing goods and services,
otherwise referred to as public goods in economics, to the public vis à vis the mandate of the ruling
government and its administrative system. It is expected by the public, of the government, and through
the public sector to judiciously harness the nation s economic resources for the benefit of the public

The public sector being an economic agent, acts on behalf of the public to judiciously harness all
economic resources for the benefit of all. Comprising of the Executive, the Judiciary, the Legislative,
the Armed Forces, the Para Military Organisations, the Police, the Ministries, the Public Enterprises
(collectively referred to as Ministries, Departments and Agencies), the public sector refers to a system
of government employees, elected or appointed that serve members of the public through the
provision of goods and service. The term is also a generic name for both the civil service and the
parastatals or public enterprises combined. It equally encompasses undertakings that engage in the
provision of goods and services which the private sector may not be able to invest in. It is generally
recognized that the public sector, as an instrument for carrying out government policies, has a vital
role to play in the social and economic development of a country.
OVERVIEW OF THE EVOLUTION OF THE PUBLIC SECTOR IN NIGERIA
The evolution of the Public Service was described by Maduabum (2006) thus; * The transfer of the
central administration of Lagos, Gambia, Gold Coast, Sierra Leone to Freetown, Sierra Leone (1866
1874) * Lagos Colony was administered from Gold Coast (1874 1886) * Moloney was appointed

The Role Of The Kuraka During The Spanish Conquest
The Role of The Kuraka During The Spanish Conquest
During the Spanish conquest of the Incan Empire the role of the Kuraka was crucial in gaining control
over the Andean society. The role of the Kuraka could be thought of as provincial nobility [1] whose
main job was to control the labor and tribute made and delivered from the natives to the state. In order
to do this job the Kurakas had to maintain respect from the natives while maintaining good relations
with the colonial state. This could be difficult considering that too much affiliation with the state could
lead to a loss of status to the natives, and a loss of respect from the natives would make one useless to
the state. The Indian who broke entirely with his own culture ... Show more content on

Because they did not understand the infrastructure the Spaniards could not gain access or control over
the Indian society with their own hierarchy or authority. It was made clear that in order to run this
society the Spanish rulers had to gain control over the means of production. This is why they
incorporated the traditional Andean Hierarchy, The Kurakas, into their model of government.[5]
In the late 1500 s Francisco Toledo, Spanish Viceroy of Peru, implemented many reforms centralizing
the colonial government. He implemented regulations that grouped the natives into small settlements
or villages, much like those seen in Europe, with grid like streets, a central plaza that faced the church,
and a jail, etc. The Indians resisted these villages and many even fled. In the face of Indian resistance
the Spanish authorities planned on using the Kurakas traditional power over the labor and goods of the
Indigenous people to benefit the state by gaining control over these societies and using these goods
and services of the natives as forms of payment to the state.
Discrimination and the exploitation of Indians continued to grow throughout the 16th century and
brought about difficulties for members of the Indian elite. The Kurakas were slowly losing respect
from the natives by trying to fulfill their requirements to the state. Laws and ordinances were put in
place to try and stop the exploitation of the Indians. Such laws

St. Participation Rate Of The Sampling
The participation rate of the sampling are shown in Table 3 in Chapter 4, and according to it, 68.4% of
the participants take part in ST currently with more than half of the total students, which indicates that
ST are relatively popular among the sampled participants. This finding is consistent with the previous
study of Xu and Ding (2004) who investigate the prevalence of ST participation in urban China, which
finds 65.5% participation rates among junior middle school students. However, the rates are relatively
low compared to Shen s study (2008), who finds 75% of the Grade 9 students take ST. It is noticed
that due to some reasons, the study did not involve the participants of Grade 9 and carried out with a

The result showed that attending ST after school is not rare, but common for the junior middle school
students in urban China and the reasons for this fever might be various. The most important reason is
that in many Asian countries, especially in East Asian, where adopted the examination oriented
education system heavily, there are school entrance examinations which determines students
qualification in entering to the higher levels of study. And the importance of these examinations
maybe sometimes exaggerated by the school teachers, parents and the whole society, which causes
substantial pressures to the students (Jayachandran, 2014; Kwok, 2004). The junior middle school
students who face the high school entrance examination in China usually have a very heavy burden in
learning and exercising with lots of homework given by the teachers, and in order to get the limited
places in entering to prestigious schools, they have to compete with their peers in examinations.
Meanwhile, given the fact of the examinations importance, the majority of the parents in developing
countries is less educated to afford children with their own guidance in learning as well as practicing,
thus supplementary become popular in these countries such as China (Jayachandran, 2014).
The private tutors that hired by the tutees may come from two sources: the teachers employed by the
mainstream schools of their own and teachers in other mainstream schools. In some countries such as

Common Stock And Preferred Stock Essay
First: Equity
Common Stock and Preferred Stock are both methods of purchasing equity in a business entity.
Common stock generally carries voting rights along with it, while preferred shares generally do not.
Preferred shares act like a hybrid security, in between common stock and holding debt. Preferred stock
can (depending on the issue) be converted to common stock and have access to accumulated dividends
and multiple other rights. Preferred stock also has access to dividends and assets in the case of
liquidation before common stock does. Second :Debt
Debt can be purchased from a company in the form of a bond.
A bond is a financial security that represents a promise by a company or government to repay a certain
amount, with interest, to the bondholder.
# Bonds and stocks are both securities, but the major difference between the two is that (capital)
stockholders have an equity stake in the company (i.e., they are owners), whereas, bondholders have a
creditor stake in the company (i.e., they are lenders). Another difference is that bonds usually have a
defined term, or maturity, after which the bond is redeemed, whereas stocks may be outstanding
indefinitely

Model convention[8] The 1935 Model Convention defined the term business income and was the first
model treaty to contain specific provision on allocation of profit from one company to an associated
company. Though the 1935 convention was never formally adopted it was of great significance
because of the issues it dealt with. The 1935 draft adopted the principle of income attributable to a
permanent establishment based on separate accounting. Interestingly, it provided two more methods a)
empirical method (percentage of turnover for example) b) fractional apportionment under which net
business income was determined by various factors. Further, the 1935 model provided for all items of
income other than those allocable to specific sources to be grouped together as business income and
rendered taxable on a net basis. The 1935 draft was mainly based on the Carroll Report [9] which was
compiled based on Carroll s visit to 27 countries to extensively study their tax systems. Carroll

Slavery in Brazil
Edmund Burke, the acclaimed author and philosopher once said, Slavery is a weed that grows on
every soil. Between the 16th and 19th century in the Americas, millions on millions of slaves were
brought to the New World. There purpose was to work. The economy of most European colonies in
America was dependent on slaves. The land that was discovered in Americas was useless with out
sufficient slave labor to exploit it. In this essay, I will focus on two nations where slavery played an
enormous role in the development of that country. First, The United States, where in 1860 in South
Carolina over 50 percent of the population were slaves. Next, Brazil, the nation where about one third
of all salves from Africa were brought. In this essay I ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Another popular triangular route taken was ships from the U.S colonies would take rum and other
products to Africa in exchange for Slaves. From there, the slaves were taken to Brazil and the
Caribbean and sold for profit or sold for sugar and molasses to take back to the U.S where then the
sugar and molasses was sold to rum makers. In general, the slave trade was horrific and inhumane,
however, it is the reason that the U.S and Brazil were able to maintain a steady economy. Although
there were many similarities between the Brazilian slaves and the U.S slaves, there were quite a few
specific differences as well. One of the largest differences in slavery between Brazil and the U.S was
demographic. Generally speaking, the Brazilian slaves were usually decreasing while the U.S slaves
were usually increasing. This is due to several reasons. First, the Brazilians had a much lower
proportion of female slaves compared to the U.S who had an equal sex ratio. In Brazil, due to the lack
of female slaves, they had a much lower birth rate then the U.S did. Both the death rate and suicide
rate was also higher in Brazil compared to the U.S. Due to the low birthrate and the high death rate,
Brazil had trouble to maintain a population resulting in having to continuously import slaves. On the
other hand, the average number of children born to an early 19th century U.S slave woman was 9.2;
this is twice as many as Brazil and the Caribbean. All these reasons are why Brazil

in the Nordic countries, Volvo started to export its products to countries with greater distance, namely
Holland, Belgium and various countries in South America. As a last step, Volvo established
subsidiaries in Finland and Norway. In the 1950s, further expansion followed. Subsidiaries were
established in most European countries, USA and Canada. In the year 1973 Volvo opened up a car

The Uppsala Model Limitations The Uppsala model is the historically oldest entry mode theory

limitations. The development of the global infrastructure has not reduced the physical distance;
however, it has certainly helped to overcome it. Furthermore, technological milestones like the
Internet have simplified communication significantly. As a result of these advancements, the cultural

Threats from the Americans and the Irish: Due to the fact that British North America was a substantial
amount of land and had little defence for it s size, American s proposed threats to take over. They were
already taking over First Nations land south of the Great Lakes, displacing many people. This was
caused by manifest destiny, the American belief that they had full entitlement to take over land in
North America. In the 1800s, land was considered extremely valuable, so people would do whatever
they could if they wanted to take over more territory. There was also American resentment towards
British North America because it did not side with northern United States nor the Southern United

Social Networking Effects On The Socialization Of People
What if Facebook was used to its fullest potential? In twelve years the social networking
site has surely grown quite a bit from the site intended to allow Harvard students to connect with
one another. Today, Facebook is a site filled with advertisements and cheaply made free to play
games. Cat pictures and cheery posts that say, Like/share if you love Jesus! riddle the
landscape of a service that is supposed to be actually connecting people. Things like this have led
people to lose hope in online social networking. To some it seems like it has become a detriment
to society. However, the results of what happens when it is used properly should not be
overlooked. Online social networking in general promotes actual relationships and benefits our
society by providing a medium perfect for connecting with people in a variety of ways. As with
everything, there are those who think differently, believing that social
networking has adverse effects on the socialization of people. It s still surprising to me,
however, this combination of Orwell and WALL E that has humans watching one another
through computer screens and socializing through in quasi isolation, remarks an article
on Times.com (Davis). Those of that opinion think that indirect communication via online
social networking will lead to increased isolationist tendencies. While these seem like valid
concerns, if anything, those feared online social networks actually help people in social

My Identity
I am truly proud of my background and how it has formed my identity. My background consists of me
being Portuguese. I could not be any more thankful for how greatly my background has impacted my
life into what it is now. It has helped me gain many friends that I am still very close to and gain
interests that have started since I was a child. Simply experiencing my family s numerous customs and
traditions is why I love to express that I am Portuguese. It has given me the opportunity to visit
Portugal every year during each summer where I fall in love with the country each time. Being
Portuguese has taught me many lessons throughout life that I will continue to pass on for future
generations of my family. When I visit Portugal, it is to see my family, mainly my grandmother, who
lives in a very small town named Seara Velha. In fact, it is quite a poor town with old houses and not
much to do. Visiting this town has taught me truly shown me that people are not born with privileged
lives. My father was born and raised in this town where he started working from eight years old as a
shepherd. I know I must work hard to get what I want in life whether it is going to college, persuing
my desired career of engineering, or simply playing well in a soccer game. I have learned that
everything will not just be handed to me. Visiting Portugal is more of a humble experience compared
to a vacation. Ever since I can remember, soccer would always be on the television to watch

plans and various forms of insurance would be costly. To add on, Obamacare provides tax credits for
those who have low income and shop through the health insurance marketplace. These people receive
a tax credit [they] can take in advance to lower [their] monthly health insurance payment (Advance

peoples of America can focus on food, shelter, and all the necessities they require besides their health.
The Affordable Care Act also brings Medicare into play. Medicare helps with drug costs and
prescriptions for people who cannot afford to pay much for them. Obamacare added many benefits to

Disadvantages Of CHO Cells
CHO (Chinese Hamster Ovary) cells are cell lines extracted from the ovary of the Chinese Hamster
and are exclusively used for commercial purposes in the production of recombinant therapeutic
proteins. Some proteins are to be synthesized using mammalian cells rather than the commonly used
microbial cells as the latter lacks the exact machinery to produce the complete protein or for safety
concerns. Among the mammalian cells, CHO cells continue to be the choice for the production of
several therapeutic proteins.
However there are certain disadvantages associated with CHO cells which include low productivity,
substrate product stability, slower growth rate, low cell density, etc. These cell lines consume nutrients
continuously beyond stoichiometric needs. Thus, the mode of operation should be chosen in such a
way that they overcome the disadvantages of the CHO cell line.
The large scale production of therapeutic proteins in industries is done in suspension culture as the
adherent cell line poses a challenge in scaling up. Currently there are two dominant modes of
operation for producing therapeutic proteins based on mammalian cell lines (Hu and Aunins, 1997) in
industrial scale:

The difference between casinos and lotteries is getting to be very slim. You have to be 18 to get into a
casino, but lottery tickets are being sold to eight year olds. 30 35 percent high school students buy
lottery tickets (source A). A better way of helping raise state funds for education is to donate to the
school specifically and not go and buy lottery tickets. The tickets do not help as much as it would be
to donate to the school personally. States take most of the money from the lottery tickets that people
buy. It cost $1 to buy a lottery ticket. The state government then takes 50 cents to put it in the pool and
proceeds redistributes the remaining 50 cents. That means you bought something that is valued at 50
cents, so you paid 100 percent sales tax on that item (source B). That is one of the worst bets we can
make in our society today. Also the state loses money on lotteries because the supply companies are
tremendously expensive. So that means they do not have that much money to donate to schools
afterwards. In conclusion, lotteries should either be improved or just terminated. They only donate 8.4
percent of what they are expected to donate to schools. This can ruin academic funds for children and

equipment as a person running on a track or on the roadways. Shoes are a very crucial item for any
runner, especially a trail runner. Laura says that you should wear a pair of true trail shoes. These
provide a thicker sole than standard running shoes, which is ideal for uneven ground and sharp rocks.
Clothing is relatively universal between trail running and road running. The only point Laura likes to
make is that you are likely to get dirtier when loping through the

Promotion Strategy Essay
At its heart, promoting a product is simply communication. Consumer perceptions are a key
component of success or failure, so organizations must strive to align communications into clear,
concise, and customer oriented messages (Lumen, n.d). The point of promotion is to convince
consumers to purchase the intended product. There are several promotion methods to choose from and
nearly limitless media to use for promotion. Marketing departments must choose the method or
methods and media that best reach the target consumer. In order to further illustrate the use of
promotion methods and media, promotion strategies have been developed for a software company, a
new toy, a health beverage, and a small airline.
Animation Software

Overall, this approach is indicative of the importance of the customer to the organization. It has
another benefit as well. When a small company uses multiple salespeople to contact a client it helps
the company appear larger than it is (Lumen, n.d.). There are a couple of types of media the
organization should use. First, submit the software to www.cnet.com for review. This will provide a
point of reference for anyone researching animation software and provide impartial judgment on the
merits of the software. Second, contact ideal customers and schedule a presentation of the new
advanced software. Once complete, offer a sample version of the software (with reduced functionality)
so it can be operated prior to purchasing the full version. Since there are many small companies that
create video games and other animation, I suggest attending trade shows. According to the Animation
World Network website, there are 19 tradeshows in the next 3 months (Events, n.d.). The organization
can also attend shows frequented by animators such as the E3 and South by Southwest conferences.
The proper use of these methods will ensure the news of this innovative animation software reaches
the intended target audience. While this plan works in this scenario, it does not necessarily apply to all
products.
New Toy
An organization has developed a new toy to capitalize on the popularity of a children s TV show.
There were delays in getting the toy introduced in the market

Diction In My Papa s Waltz By Theodore Roethke
In the poem My Papa s Waltz by Theodore Roethke, he looks back in his memory as a child and
explains the love he has for his father despite all the flaws his father holds. Roethke describes his
emotions through this poem by using diction, imagery, and the use of tone. In the poem, Roethke uses
diction that shows his emotions towards his father. In the first stanza, the poet says: The whiskey on
your breath Could make a small boy dizzy; But I hung on like death: Such waltzing was not easy.
Even though his father is a drunk he still loves him. He says I hung on like death which emphasizes
the bond he has with his father while they are waltzing together. This also shows a strong sense of
love and affection he has for him. Because his father s breath reeked of whiskey, it was hard for them
to waltz with ease. Also, the poet somewhat describes pain in way as well when he uses the words
battered and scraped in the third stanza. He uses these word battered because he s describing that his
father s hands as worn out and beat up because he probably works really hard at his job which requires
a lot of labor and the description of that word shows the reader that he works hard at what he does.
With the word scraped, this shows pain because when the poet and his father waltz, his right ear
scraped because his father was drunk on the whiskey and it made him a little dizzy and the poet most
likely hit something which scraped his ear. The poet also uses the word romped ; this describes that
the son and the father are having fun together waltzing even though they are being careless as they are
bumping into the pots and pans in the kitchen which annoys the mother as described in the second
stanza in the last two lines.
With the use of imagery, the poet communicates to the reader the emotional bond between the father
and his son. In the first stanza of the poem, the he illustrates a clear picture between the son and the
father. The whiskey on your breath Could make a small boy dizzy But I hung on like death Such
waltzing was not easy. the poet is saying that the father may not be the best father in the world with
his breath smelling like whiskey, but despite that, the son hangs on like death. The simile the poet

Jane Eyre Struggles
Jane Eyre endures the toughest conflict because horrible things keep coming her way like, when the
teachers mistreated her, her horrible school, and her struggle to get to the top of the class. She endures
the most conflict because she the most and worst things happen to her for instance being shunned by
everybody, and getting her hair cut off. Jane triumphs the most from her conflict because she knows
that she will get through and tries to do better like when she struggled to get to the top of her class.
First, when Jane broke her chalkboard, the author said You must be on your guard against her; you
must shun her example if necessary, avoid her company, exclude her from sports, and shut her out
from your converse (Brontë 60). The shows

The Memory Palace Of Matteo Ricci Analysis
Matteo Ricci was a born in Italy in 1552. He became a Jesuit and went a mission to China in 1583. He
lived out the rest of his twenty seven years in China, bringing in Western culture and technology,
while learning about what China had to offer. In his novel, The Memory Palace of Matteo Ricci,
Jonathan Spence retells Ricci s life story, while also adding information about the world at the time.
Spence tells Ricci s story in an interesting way, by assigning Chinese characters and images that he
believes Ricci would have used in his memory palace, a fictional tool to remember what that took
place during his life. The memory palace works by assigning memories to a character or image, so
when you think of the image, you can remember the memories associated with it. Spence then breaks
up the chapters separately by each image or character and talks about the history and story from Ricci
s life associated with the image or character. This essay will primarily focus on chapter four of the
novel, though a summary of the themes of chapter six is included as well. In chapter four Spence
largely discusses the three main religions of the Western world, Christianity, Islam, and Judaism, and
then draws parallels with the three largest religions in China at the time, Confucianism, Buddhism,
and Daoism. However, these examples are not the only instances where a trio of three religions and
belief systems are present. At the end of the Warring States period in China, around 350 BCE, China
was

Go Ask Alice Is Written By An Anonymous Author Essay
The novel Go ask Alice is written by an anonymous author and is based on a diary kept by a
conventional teenager who then turns into a suicidal drug addict. What happens to Alice at one
unsavoury party changed her life forever. She is invited to Jill s party, someone she doesn t know well,
where her drink is unknowingly spiked with LSD. Not long after that Alice amassed a dependence on
drugs, for example she was unable to last even a few days sober. The author of the diary, Alice, has a
raw style and format of writing that fascinated me. The writing style exposed real emotions, and did
not hold back. It was as if Alice was talking to her best friend and thought that no one would see her
diary. I also think that because I am a teenager and so is Alice I was able to relate to the life she had
and the pressures she feels. Alice taught me that even saying yes once to drugs, could lead to life
threatening consequences. The themes I noticed were, the influence of the media, the highs and lows
of teenage life and the dangers of drug use.
Something I found unique about the book was the style and format. Go ask Alice is one of the few
books I have read that was written in diary form, I liked the way that it skipped from one day to the
next yet still kept making sense. I also enjoyed the way the writer described the highs on drugs, as not
many other books with powerful moral messages surrounding the dangers of drugs actually expose
what it is like to be on drugs. The book s honesty

Attachment Problems
Attachment problems can be caused by several different factors and it may actually be difficult to
assess causality in some cases where the client history is incomplete or contradictory in places
depending on the source. Ainsworth (1992) aptly summarized the attachment equation. First babies of
sensitive mothers were more likely to be securely attached, while those who had less sensitive mothers
were more likely to be insecurely attached. These insecurely attached children had more difficulty
forming new skills and interests because of their lack of a secure base from which to work.
Psychosocial factors that could contribute to attachment problems in childhood include problems with
the infant, including a difficult temperament or physical ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A full physical, mental, and social history of the family, and the child, should be taken with careful
attention paid to any trauma that may have occurred to the parent(s), the child, or the family as a
whole and any history of substance abuse within the family or those with whom the child had frequent
contact. Questions should be asked about the beginnings of the symptoms, however, in some
situations the family may be a foster or adoptive family that is trying to figure out the behavior of a
child and has never seen any different behavior from the child and may not have a full history of them.
When possible, physicians, former caretakers, former caseworkers, and others who might know the
child s history in the case of a foster or adopted child should be contacted and as much information
should be gathered as possible. A Marschak Interaction Method Behavior Rating System may be
useful here, for the current caretaker and child, if there is a trained clinician available to observe the
mother child dyad and complete the assessment. It has been observed that high parental stress may
inhibit ideal parent child interactions as well (McKay, Pickens, Stewart, 1996) and because of this the
clinician may want to provide an assessment to the parent(s) that evaluates this such as the Parenting
Stress

This is reflected in the world of Blade Runner, where people live in fear and paranoia of the replicants, creating tests to find these replicants and creating a police force for killing them. It even got to the point where replicant life spans were shortened to prevent them from developing emotion. Like the US government, the people of the world of Blade Runner ignored how the discrimination would affect those discriminated against. • 5. Conformity And Its Effect On Society In today life people generally tend to conform in many situations to blend in and to live their life peacefully. They may feel safer doing so and more acceptable by society if they don t stick out with ideas opposite or different to the main stream . To answer the question what is CONFORMITY we ca use the description of psychologists who described it as: The most general concept and refers to any change in behaviour caused by another person or group; the individual acted in some way because of influence from others. (Breckler, 2006) Conformity can be caused by different reasons. For some people it will be a way of looking for clues of how to behave, as other people may have better knowledge or experience than we, and it can be helpful and informative for us to follow them. Other example of conformity is when people conform because they want to be accepted by a group, they want to be a part something, and they don t want to be pounced on them. Another reason for people to conform is to follow someone s style to look alike as it can come across positive perception from peers. Harvard psychologist Herbert Kelman identified three major types of conformity, which were based on his experiments and research. These are as follow: Compliance is referred to changing the behaviour publicly, to fit in group despite the fact that privately we don t agree with it. The very good example of such conformity is Ash s experiment, when despite the obvious answer people gave a different ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Ralph Waldo Emerson s Ideology Of Self Identity In the essay, Self Reliance, Ralph Waldo Emerson s ideology of self identity is impractical today because the media has hindered society from developing our true identities. The use of social media is ruining this generation s real life social skills. According to Social Media Today, an online community for professionals, The amount of time people spend on social media is constantly increasing. Teens now spend up to nine hours a day on social platforms, while 30% of all time spent online is now allocated to social media interaction. Texting or online communications does not allow people to truly express themselves for who they truly are. There is a loss of social and personal development communicating through social media. For instance, people online are unable to use body language, tone, voice and facial expressions through a text. An article on The Telegraph, pointed out that One in four people spend more time socialising online, using sites such as Facebook, than they do in person, according to research. The study also found that even when there is an opportunity to see people face to face, on weekends for example, up to 11% of adults still prefer to stay at home and communicate on their devices instead. The scene is utilized to emphasize the point that the film isn t another typical superhero movie, what happens in real life will occur in the movie. According to the Supreme Court case Barron v. Baltimore in 1833, none of the provisions in the Bill of Rights applied to the states, they only applied to the federal government and their restrictions (Bowers 43). However, the authors of Nevada s 1864 constitution included their own Bill of Rights named the Declaration of Rights. The Declaration of Rights included all of the same principles that the Bill of Rights did such as the ones listed above. There are two significant differences between the two sets of amendments. For one, the Nevada constitution requires compensation before the government can seize private property, the U.S. constitution does not have the same requirement. • 11. Racial Diversity In Social Media In todays world of near total dependence on the internet, it becomes increasingly noticed that our popular culture is defined by the racially diverse nature of most social media platforms. Social media is well known as a catalyst for any activism or social reformation movements that occur nearly every day around the world. Platforms such as Facebook or Twitter often start debates over things that happen online, on television, or in the real world. Those who use interactive multimedia are very racially diverse and bring unique ideas and arguments to the international community of the internet. However, it is apparent that both Twitter and Facebook have varied approaches when inviting those of racial diversity onto their platforms and making them feel welcomed there. It has become an accepted business practice to meet a certain quota of hiring from diverse racial groups. This trend of identifying racial diversity began with the idea of setting targets has its roots in affirmative action policies in the US and South Africa (Jacobs, 1). Previous social movements resulted in the push to identify numbers regarding grouping those of different ethnic groups. As of the year 2016, the United States government issued a three hundred dollar diversity fund (Jacobs, 2) to identify the rate of hiring diverse groupings. Companies began to feel pressure from social activism resulting in this new quota that they must meet to stay respected within the community of those who fight for diversity on the internet. While the expansion of hiring those of diverse brackets can create a positive professional and educational atmosphere, it can also create a feeling of tension between those separate groups. It is feared that meeting the diversity percentage issued by the United States government may overshadow those who may work hard for a job or college acceptance. However, by employing a diverse workforce, a company has the ability to have different perspective on racially sensitive topics. If someone of similar racial backgrounds marketed a product used predominantly by one race, then it would result in the possibility of increased sales. • 14. Grouping People Based on Stereotypes Harold Evans once said, Attempting to get at truth means rejecting stereotypes and clichés . Yet at some points stereotypes help us to gain a truth that would otherwise have to be learnt over and over again, each time we encountered it. When trying to view the world, one must realise that by grouping people based on stereotypes, they are allowing themselves to recognise different peoples, threats, ideas and many other different aspects of society. Whether this grouping has any real basis or not is the entire argument within this essay. Analysing this concept through theory of knowledge means that at least two areas of knowledge need to be recognised. This essay will be discussing it through both a human sciences perspective, more specifically with relation to psychology, and also the arts, through film, something in which even recently stereotypes are very common. Extracting a knowledge issue from this question is difficult as the topic is already so broad however for the purposes of this essay, a few words within the title will first be defined. When defining stereotypes it needs to be spilt up to function in both the psychological sense but also the area of film and literature. In psychology the definition of a stereotype is a set of generalizations about a group of people or a social category. It may be correct or incorrect. Mostly, these statements are exaggerated. Moreover, farmers are being driven to suicide, and the ecosystem s livelihood is treading a fine line. The three contingencies of Patel s plan include changing the governing laws of agribusiness, improving the conditions of and supporting rural areas, and changing the role of eating in society. Before much progress can be made, the ways in which businesses are required to operate must change. Without any new legislations to stand in their way, nothing will alter the ways in which they operate or the ways they look to further solidify their dominance. Next, rural growers simply need more help. In current conditions, they barely scrape by due to the increasing demands from their purchasers and the decreasing amounts of compensation collected. Contrary to the original perception, crop subsidies, most associated with corn, provide no help to these smaller farmers. They can t compete with the mass growers and their enormous swathes of land. It drives the rural farmers out of those particular markets, and it often prevents them from growing crops their land is most suitable for. Finally, Pollan pushes the idea that there must be a revamp of the meaning of food to consumers. As it stands, people view eating as a task rather than an enjoyable experience. This leads the consumer to think little of the food, especially in ways Michael Pollan insist they must think about the food. Or did there society change? The Spanish colonizers had a huge influence on the indigenous peoples of Mexico and Peru s, culture, language, traditions, religion, even on their native food. One can say that this came into being shortly after Columbus discovered the New World. The Spanish conquistadors, who sailed with Columbus to the New World, were the first to leave their mark on the new territory. We still see some of these traditions in today s society. The Spanish taught the Indians of their oral traditions of legends and jokes, music, food, beliefs, and customs. The Indians even picked up on their native tongue, Spanish, and used it as their own and still do to this day. There are many things in the Mexican culture which have contributed to the shaping and molding of the modern Latino society, such as the Mexican history, culture, language, religion, and traditions. The Indigenous culture is not simply a blend of Mexico used to be, but the results of a unique historical process that developed with an originality all its own. This culture was divided into many different social classes after the Spanish took the reins. Like they started to develop a governmental system for the Indigenous people and they started to tax them with the Bourbon Reforms. • 21. Juvenile Delinquency in the 1950s Why did juvenile delinquency occur in the 1950s and what precautions were taken to prevent it? (Project Summary) This project will focus on the British criminal justice system in the 1950s regarding juvenile behaviour. The research will explore the ways used to prevent juvenile crime, the social and psychological motivation for crime, and the way that the criminal justice system aimed to rehabilitate those convicted of a juvenile offence. To explore these areas an understanding of delinquency, and its consequences is needed. According to Wirt and Briggs delinquency involves personal suffering as well as a loss to society. 1 This suggests that juveniles are not mindfully delinquent as their actions have repercussions on their ... Modern Records Centre Practicalities On Wednesday 6th March I contacted the Modern Records Centre via e mail regarding the documents I would like to view. I found this relatively straight forward with the pre prepared catalogue for the making history project and the database section on juvenile delinquents in the 1950s. I asked to see ten files that I later discovered contained various documents. This made my task a little harder as there was more material to read. However, in hindsight this helped to gain an overview for the task ahead. I photographed the documents most relevant to my research for further analysis at home, whilst considering maintaining a balance of newspaper articles, photographs and texts. Practically this enabled me to progress with the project without being restricted to the Modern Records Centre. I also gave great importance to recording the origin of any information, making a note of the reference codes for consideration later within the project. The Role Of The Kuraka During The Spanish Conquest The Role of The Kuraka During The Spanish Conquest During the Spanish conquest of the Incan Empire the role of the Kuraka was crucial in gaining control over the Andean society. The role of the Kuraka could be thought of as provincial nobility [1] whose main job was to control the labor and tribute made and delivered from the natives to the state. In order to do this job the Kurakas had to maintain respect from the natives while maintaining good relations with the colonial state. This could be difficult considering that too much affiliation with the state could lead to a loss of status to the natives, and a loss of respect from the natives would make one useless to the state. Because they did not understand the infrastructure the Spaniards could not gain access or control over the Indian society with their own hierarchy or authority. It was made clear that in order to run this society the Spanish rulers had to gain control over the means of production. This is why they incorporated the traditional Andean Hierarchy, The Kurakas, into their model of government.[5] In the late 1500 s Francisco Toledo, Spanish Viceroy of Peru, implemented many reforms centralizing the colonial government. He implemented regulations that grouped the natives into small settlements or villages, much like those seen in Europe, with grid like streets, a central plaza that faced the church, and a jail, etc. The Indians resisted these villages and many even fled. In the face of Indian resistance the Spanish authorities planned on using the Kurakas traditional power over the labor and goods of the Indigenous people to benefit the state by gaining control over these societies and using these goods and services of the natives as forms of payment to the state. Discrimination and the exploitation of Indians continued to grow throughout the 16th century and brought about difficulties for members of the Indian elite. The Kurakas were slowly losing respect from the natives by trying to fulfill their requirements to the state. Laws and ordinances were put in place to try and stop the exploitation of the Indians. The result showed that attending ST after school is not rare, but common for the junior middle school students in urban China and the reasons for this fever might be various. The most important reason is that in many Asian countries, especially in East Asian, where adopted the examination oriented education system heavily, there are school entrance examinations which determines students qualification in entering to the higher levels of study. And the importance of these examinations maybe sometimes exaggerated by the school teachers, parents and the whole society, which causes substantial pressures to the students (Jayachandran, 2014; Kwok, 2004). The junior middle school students who face the high school entrance examination in China usually have a very heavy burden in learning and exercising with lots of homework given by the teachers, and in order to get the limited places in entering to prestigious schools, they have to compete with their peers in examinations. Common stock generally carries voting rights along with it, while preferred shares generally do not. Preferred shares act like a hybrid security, in between common stock and holding debt. Preferred stock can (depending on the issue) be converted to common stock and have access to accumulated dividends and multiple other rights. Preferred stock also has access to dividends and assets in the case of liquidation before common stock does. Second :Debt Debt can be purchased from a company in the form of a bond. A bond is a financial security that represents a promise by a company or government to repay a certain amount, with interest, to the bondholder. # Bonds and stocks are both securities, but the major difference between the two is that (capital) stockholders have an equity stake in the company (i.e., they are owners), whereas, bondholders have a creditor stake in the company (i.e., they are lenders). Another difference is that bonds usually have a defined term, or maturity, after which the bond is redeemed, whereas stocks may be outstanding indefinitely Source: Boundless. Between the 16th and 19th century in the Americas, millions on millions of slaves were brought to the New World. There purpose was to work. The economy of most European colonies in America was dependent on slaves. The land that was discovered in Americas was useless with out sufficient slave labor to exploit it. In this essay, I will focus on two nations where slavery played an enormous role in the development of that country. From there, the slaves were taken to Brazil and the Caribbean and sold for profit or sold for sugar and molasses to take back to the U.S where then the sugar and molasses was sold to rum makers. In general, the slave trade was horrific and inhumane, however, it is the reason that the U.S and Brazil were able to maintain a steady economy. Although there were many similarities between the Brazilian slaves and the U.S slaves, there were quite a few specific differences as well. One of the largest differences in slavery between Brazil and the U.S was demographic. Generally speaking, the Brazilian slaves were usually decreasing while the U.S slaves were usually increasing. This is due to several reasons. First, the Brazilians had a much lower proportion of female slaves compared to the U.S who had an equal sex ratio. In Brazil, due to the lack of female slaves, they had a much lower birth rate then the U.S did. Both the death rate and suicide rate was also higher in Brazil compared to the U.S. Due to the low birthrate and the high death rate, Brazil had trouble to maintain a population resulting in having to continuously import slaves. On the other hand, the average number of children born to an early 19th century U.S slave woman was 9.2; this is twice as many as Brazil and the Caribbean. All these reasons are why Brazil ... Disadvantages Of CHO Cells CHO (Chinese Hamster Ovary) cells are cell lines extracted from the ovary of the Chinese Hamster and are exclusively used for commercial purposes in the production of recombinant therapeutic proteins. Some proteins are to be synthesized using mammalian cells rather than the commonly used microbial cells as the latter lacks the exact machinery to produce the complete protein or for safety concerns. Among the mammalian cells, CHO cells continue to be the choice for the production of several therapeutic proteins. However there are certain disadvantages associated with CHO cells which include low productivity, substrate product stability, slower growth rate, low cell density, etc. These cell lines consume nutrients continuously beyond stoichiometric needs. Thus, the mode of operation should be chosen in such a way that they overcome the disadvantages of the CHO cell line. The large scale production of therapeutic proteins in industries is done in suspension culture as the adherent cell line poses a challenge in scaling up. That means you bought something that is valued at 50 cents, so you paid 100 percent sales tax on that item (source B). That is one of the worst bets we can make in our society today. Also the state loses money on lotteries because the supply companies are tremendously expensive. So that means they do not have that much money to donate to schools afterwards. In conclusion, lotteries should either be improved or just terminated. They only donate 8.4 percent of what they are expected to donate to schools. This can ruin academic funds for children and even ruin their ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Laura Motes And Animal Welfare Laura Motes Tells Us the Ways Anyone Can Help Promote Animal Welfare According to former police officer and animal lover Laura Motes, there are many simple ways that everyday people can assist with animal welfare and rescue issues. She knows that you don t have to give a ton of money to a shelter to make a difference. The little things add up to make a big impact. Most of Laura s tips involve community involvement and education, like scheduling a local animal rescue speaker to meet with and talk to your local church or business group. She has also found that by placing a small donation cup on her desk or in the break room of her office, she receives small donations that add up quickly. She then takes that money to the local rescue leagues in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The 4 Items You Need to Trail Run with Laura Motes Laura Motes will happily run on any surface and in any environment, but trail running is one of her favorites. This sport, which involves running through wilderness trails, is beautifully simple. It does not take much planning or equipment, and many people find trail running to be the most enjoyable form of running. According to Motes, there are certain considerations that need to be acknowledged when preparing for a trail running trip. As the runner will be moving over natural trails and different terrains, they will not need the same gear or equipment as a person running on a track or on the roadways. Shoes are a very crucial item for any runner, especially a trail runner. Laura says that you should wear a pair of true trail shoes. These provide a thicker sole than standard running shoes, which is ideal for uneven ground and sharp rocks. Clothing is relatively universal between trail running and road running. The only point Laura likes to make is that you are likely to get dirtier when loping through the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 41. Promotion Strategy Essay At its heart, promoting a product is simply communication. Consumer perceptions are a key component of success or failure, so organizations must strive to align communications into clear, concise, and customer oriented messages (Lumen, n.d). The point of promotion is to convince consumers to purchase the intended product. There are several promotion methods to choose from and nearly limitless media to use for promotion. Marketing departments must choose the method or methods and media that best reach the target consumer. In order to further illustrate the use of promotion methods and media, promotion strategies have been developed for a software company, a new toy, a health beverage, and a small airline. Animation Software A ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Overall, this approach is indicative of the importance of the customer to the organization. It has another benefit as well. When a small company uses multiple salespeople to contact a client it helps the company appear larger than it is (Lumen, n.d.). There are a couple of types of media the organization should use. First, submit the software to www.cnet.com for review. This will provide a point of reference for anyone researching animation software and provide impartial judgment on the merits of the software. Second, contact ideal customers and schedule a presentation of the new advanced software. Once complete, offer a sample version of the software (with reduced functionality) so it can be operated prior to purchasing the full version. Since there are many small companies that create video games and other animation, I suggest attending trade shows. According to the Animation World Network website, there are 19 tradeshows in the next 3 months (Events, n.d.). The organization can also attend shows frequented by animators such as the E3 and South by Southwest conferences. The proper use of these methods will ensure the news of this innovative animation software reaches the intended target audience. While this plan works in this scenario, it does not necessarily apply to all products. New Toy An organization has developed a new toy to capitalize on the popularity of a children s TV show. • 42. Diction In My Papa s Waltz By Theodore Roethke In the poem My Papa s Waltz by Theodore Roethke, he looks back in his memory as a child and explains the love he has for his father despite all the flaws his father holds. Roethke describes his emotions through this poem by using diction, imagery, and the use of tone. In the poem, Roethke uses diction that shows his emotions towards his father. In the first stanza, the poet says: The whiskey on your breath Could make a small boy dizzy; But I hung on like death: Such waltzing was not easy. Even though his father is a drunk he still loves him. He says I hung on like death which emphasizes the bond he has with his father while they are waltzing together. This also shows a strong sense of love and affection he has for him. Because his father s breath reeked of whiskey, it was hard for them to waltz with ease. Also, the poet somewhat describes pain in way as well when he uses the words battered and scraped in the third stanza. He uses these word battered because he s describing that his father s hands as worn out and beat up because he probably works really hard at his job which requires a lot of labor and the description of that word shows the reader that he works hard at what he does. With the word scraped, this shows pain because when the poet and his father waltz, his right ear scraped because his father was drunk on the whiskey and it made him a little dizzy and the poet most likely hit something which scraped his ear. The poet also uses the word romped ; this describes that the son and the father are having fun together waltzing even though they are being careless as they are bumping into the pots and pans in the kitchen which annoys the mother as described in the second stanza in the last two lines. With the use of imagery, the poet communicates to the reader the emotional bond between the father and his son. In the first stanza of the poem, the he illustrates a clear picture between the son and the father. The whiskey on your breath Could make a small boy dizzy But I hung on like death Such waltzing was not easy. the poet is saying that the father may not be the best father in the world with his breath smelling like whiskey, but despite that, the son hangs on like death. • 44. The Memory Palace Of Matteo Ricci Analysis Matteo Ricci was a born in Italy in 1552. He became a Jesuit and went a mission to China in 1583. He lived out the rest of his twenty seven years in China, bringing in Western culture and technology, while learning about what China had to offer. In his novel, The Memory Palace of Matteo Ricci, Jonathan Spence retells Ricci s life story, while also adding information about the world at the time. Spence tells Ricci s story in an interesting way, by assigning Chinese characters and images that he believes Ricci would have used in his memory palace, a fictional tool to remember what that took place during his life. The memory palace works by assigning memories to a character or image, so when you think of the image, you can remember the memories associated with it. Spence then breaks up the chapters separately by each image or character and talks about the history and story from Ricci s life associated with the image or character. This essay will primarily focus on chapter four of the novel, though a summary of the themes of chapter six is included as well. In chapter four Spence largely discusses the three main religions of the Western world, Christianity, Islam, and Judaism, and then draws parallels with the three largest religions in China at the time, Confucianism, Buddhism, and Daoism. However, these examples are not the only instances where a trio of three religions and belief systems are present. At the end of the Warring States period in China, around 350 BCE, China was ... • 45. Go Ask Alice Is Written By An Anonymous Author Essay The novel Go ask Alice is written by an anonymous author and is based on a diary kept by a conventional teenager who then turns into a suicidal drug addict. What happens to Alice at one unsavoury party changed her life forever. She is invited to Jill s party, someone she doesn t know well, where her drink is unknowingly spiked with LSD. Not long after that Alice amassed a dependence on drugs, for example she was unable to last even a few days sober. The author of the diary, Alice, has a raw style and format of writing that fascinated me. The writing style exposed real emotions, and did not hold back. It was as if Alice was talking to her best friend and thought that no one would see her diary. I also think that because I am a teenager and so is Alice I was able to relate to the life she had and the pressures she feels. Alice taught me that even saying yes once to drugs, could lead to life threatening consequences. The themes I noticed were, the influence of the media, the highs and lows of teenage life and the dangers of drug use. Something I found unique about the book was the style and format. Go ask Alice is one of the few books I have read that was written in diary form, I liked the way that it skipped from one day to the next yet still kept making sense. I also enjoyed the way the writer described the highs on drugs, as not many other books with powerful moral messages surrounding the dangers of drugs actually expose what it is like to be on drugs. The book s honesty ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Attachment Problems Attachment problems can be caused by several different factors and it may actually be difficult to assess causality in some cases where the client history is incomplete or contradictory in places depending on the source. Ainsworth (1992) aptly summarized the attachment equation. First babies of sensitive mothers were more likely to be securely attached, while those who had less sensitive mothers were more likely to be insecurely attached. These insecurely attached children had more difficulty forming new skills and interests because of their lack of a secure base from which to work. Psychosocial factors that could contribute to attachment problems in childhood include problems with the infant, including a difficult temperament or physical ... A full physical, mental, and social history of the family, and the child, should be taken with careful attention paid to any trauma that may have occurred to the parent(s), the child, or the family as a whole and any history of substance abuse within the family or those with whom the child had frequent contact. Questions should be asked about the beginnings of the symptoms, however, in some situations the family may be a foster or adoptive family that is trying to figure out the behavior of a child and has never seen any different behavior from the child and may not have a full history of them. When possible, physicians, former caretakers, former caseworkers, and others who might know the child s history in the case of a foster or adopted child should be contacted and as much information should be gathered as possible. A Marschak Interaction Method Behavior Rating System may be useful here, for the current caretaker and child, if there is a trained clinician available to observe the mother child dyad and complete the assessment. It has been observed that high parental stress may inhibit ideal parent child interactions as well (McKay, Pickens, Stewart, 1996) and because of this the clinician may want to provide an assessment to the parent(s) that evaluates this such as the Parenting Stress ...
