Similarities Between The Odyssey And The Penelopiad
History is told in the viewpoint of the victor. For thousands of years, a wrong in a textbook may not be
correct until one person speaks up. Hatred, rumors, and the true happenings of ancient event are often
concealed until more accounts of the event are heard. The Odyssey, for thousands of years only had
one major part of the story Odysseus telling of the tale. His wife, only had few things said about her in
Odysseus s epic telling of his journey. What she experienced at home was much different from what
Odysseus did on his journey. In the epic poem The Odyssey , and the book The Penelopiad , Penelope
was portrayed much differently. If Penelope s version of the story had never been told, she would be
seen only as a faithful,

Nora Al Ghanim Dr. Looms English 101 19 June 2015 The Non Stop Complain Please Grandma, stop
complaining about your health, you are just fine! No Noura dear, you have to understand that I am
having a bad back pain, I cannot walk because my legs hurt, my eyes are weak, and I cannot hear

Noura, listen to her problems gently; she hardly expresses how she feels to anyone, father said, to

Analysis Of The Entertainer By Scott Joplin
The Entertainer by Scott Joplin
The Entertainer composed by Scott Joplin, was created because, rag time in the 1902 was extremely
popular between 1897 1917 . Moreover this music piece is resurrected for our entertainment in the
1973 Oscar winning movie The String
The famous song published by John Stark Son of St. Louis, in the summer of December 29, 1902 was
an song created for the lovers of ragtime music and dancers of the two step piece that was popular
during this period. The original piece key signature is C Major but got transposed to F major for Tenor
Saxophone playing. Therefore, the time signature is 4/4 with a tempo of 77 BPM with Mezzo Forte
being the starting dynamic.
One of the many style that you could analyze this ragtime piece is by using AA, BB, A, CC and in the
second time DD. This technique was used in what many commentators would say African
Americans... use.... freedom of speech in order to enhance their identity and presence in the United
States of America , giving in those times a more inferior community, in America, a freedom a way to
communicate. Throughout the song, the tone of the piece gives off a relaxing sound but gets tedious
after a while since there is not much variation between the notes, and is quite repetitive all through the
piece. The rhythm of the song is 4/4 timing which makes the characteristic identity with ragtime in its
two step andate. Highlighted throughout the musical piece, there a waves of ostinato due to the

What African American Men Face Every Day Analysis
1. The purpose of this essay is to explain and inform what African American men face every day.
Staples do not believe that he or other African American men stop to alter public space in ugly ways
because even if they are non violent, the way they talk, walk, and body language make them look like
aggressive and violent. Also, they inherit this kind of behavior from their family without knowing it.
In addition, the society already has a wrong image of them; and most people think every African
American men is a mugger or a rapist and it takes time to change the society. Staples suggests
avoiding eye contact with pedestrians to minimize such kind of alienation. Also, he suggests making
oneself less threatening by whistling popular classical

Napoleon Bonaparte s Big Dictator In Small Packaging
Big Dictator in Small Packaging Tall, dark, and handsome are not the adjectives one might use to
describe Napoleon Bonaparte. Vulgar, ruthless, and conniving are the ones some would if they were so
inclined... Despite the controversy over the shockingly short man s rule, his road to success and his
untimely downfall undeniably played a large role in shaping modern France. However, what is more
interesting is what shaped this historic dictator. And, it all began with his birth. Napoleon Bonaparte s
early life turned from bitter sadness to unexpected accomplishment. Born August 15, 1769 into a
large, impoverished family during a war between his homeland Corsica and the mighty France, it
seemed that, even then, his livelihood and well being were being challenged. His parents, Letizia and
Carlo, wrestled to keep food on the table after the French war, and chose to move to France to pursue
a better life. To Napoleon s distaste, his father was quick to submit to French customs and began to
dress and behave just like a Frenchman ( To Destiny ). Furthermore, when Bonaparte turned nine, his
father gave him his first stepping stone by procuring him a scholarship to a French school. It was at
this school that Bonaparte began to truly feel set apart. With his yellow, Corsican skin, prideful
ambience, and the fact that he hardly spoke French, Napoleon did not even try to fit in. At the age of
fifteen, he attended the Royal Military Academy of France. One teacher described him as, quiet and
solitary. Frightfully egotistical. Proud, ambitious, aspiring to everything ( To Destiny ). He would go
far, his school report read, in favorable circumstances ( To Destiny ).
However, in 1785 at the age of 16, he finished school and secured the title of Second Lieutenant. It
was during this time that he became a genius at sighting a gun, deploying soldiers, and handling
rammer and shot. Yet, he felt useless. For a man who sensed he was destined for greatness, Second
Lieutenant was not a satisfactory vocation. He believed the regime would not grant him the high title
he yearned for because he was a no name. For that reason, he worked to be an author instead. He
wrote a quick history of Corsica and attempted writing a

Comparing The Handmaid s Tale And The Blind Assassin
Margaret Atwood uses allusions and symbolism to convey the idea that society strips women of their
full potential in order to justify their oppression. This can be seen in her novels through the constraints
placed on the main female characters. In The Handmaid s Tale Atwood depicts a dystopian society
which appears to be an extreme version of the oppression present in today s society; whereas, in The
Blind Assassin Atwood analyzes oppression through a more realistic lens.
Atwood begins the novel, The Handmaid s Tale with three epigraphs. The first alludes to Genesis 30:1
3, which states: And when Rachel saw that she bare Jacob no children, Rachel envied her sister; and
said unto Jacob, Give me children, or else I die. And Jacob s anger ... Show more content on

Atwood wrote the novel from multiple viewpoints and sources to [make] the story a suspenseful read,
and [to build] the question of what constitutes truth into the novel s framework. (Hope, Joan). By
questioning what constitutes truth, Atwood is highlighting how sexual victims and women are often
questioned, even though they have nothing to gain from telling the truth, and the men defying them
have everything to lose. Women are stripped of not only their potential, but of their accountability, to
justify the continuation of their oppression. If no one sides with them, their exploitation will continue

Marketing Plan For Product And The Managers
Second, marketing helps the business find out customer needs, use different selling plan to improve
the sale of the goods or services and then satisfy the needs. Marketing design the plan for the product
and the managers can follow the four condition, product, price, place and promotion, means the 4Ps of
marketing, to decide the final plan. Understanding the customer needs are important in marketing.
Because different type of customers have different needs. Then, customer always be the main focus
into the marketing plan (Chapman 2011, p. 125). However, before the managers decide the marketing
plan, they need to understand the six main type of market. Because choosing the correct market is
important for a product. And it affects the following part of the marketing plan, such as decision of
selling place or the plan of promotion. Then, the six types of market are resource market, industrial
market, intermediate market, consumer market, mass market, and niche market. Those types of market
are totally different and the managers need to choose it carefully when they decide the marketing plan
(Chapman 2011, p. 138 139). In addition, there are four main elements influence the customer s
buying behaviour. On psychological, the influence only affect individual, then the buying motives,
personality and personal education also affect the buying behaviour. Next, on sociocultural, the culture
of the country, customer s social class or family culture might affect the active of buying.

Character and Setting Analysis of Bride Comes to Yellow Sky Setting and characters go hand in hand

development. A new setting in each part of the story makes for diverse settings and characters. From a

something is not right in his little town, but he is too concerned with his ?betrayal? to his town. Part

the drummer who is talking and being quite sociable to people who could care less if he was there.
There are two Mexican herders, stock characters, and three Texans, stock characters only providing

drummer is unconcerned and simply offers him a drink. Everyone else in the bar though is worried

The Soviet Union Of The 19th Century
The Beginning
The idea of having the RSFSR as a enemy towards the Soviet Union at the time of the 19th century
was one of the biggest reasons why the Soviet Union took such a big downfall when it collapsed. The
RSFSR was a opposing group that was branched off from the Soviet Union, resulting from a argument
over political standings and power for both groups.1 The RSFSR wanted a representative to stand
during the meetings of the Soviet Union, however the Soviet Union did not grant that because the
representative did not win in the voting, but candidate that was favored by the USSR won. The
RSFSR was one of the main reasons why the Soviet Union had collapsed by the end of the 19th
century, including a number of other factors as well. Despite the grudges, the Soviet Union and the
RSFSR were both branched together at one point. That point didn t last very long, but starting from
the beginning, the Soviet Union rose to its power throughout the 20th century.
The rise of the Soviet Union
The Soviet Union was officially established during December during the year of 1922, with the union
of the Soviet republics from Russia, Ukraine, Byelorussia, and Transcaucasia, which were all each
ruled by local Bolshevik parties. The foundation of the Soviet state where a federal entity of many
republics that were constituent, each with its own political and administrative entities, was applied
from these Soviet republics. The term Soviet Russia was only related to the Russian Federative

In June 2017, Youth Uprising will create a district wide policy with Alameda County to screen all A.A.
students for stress and anxiety (See Appendix A). Starting July 2017, Beauty in the Process program
will be the result of the new district wide policy in Alameda County (See Appendix A). This will be a
pilot program for one year at Lincoln Middle School in Alameda, California. Volunteers will be
recruited from the school s Parent Teacher Association (PTA) and in return each volunteer, up to six
persons, will receive a school supply grant for $500. Youth UpRising will provide a program
coordinator, certified health educator, social worker and guidance counselor from the organization s
program to make the recruitment processes easier.
The program will partner with Flying Yoga Studios in Alameda, since they already have experience
teaching yoga and meditation to younger children. The partnership will give student yoga instructors
more community hours while assisting a certified yoga instructor. This will ensure students get more
attention during sessions with two paid yoga instructors plus additional student instructors. Volunteers
will then be fingerprinted and background checked. Art instructor will be recruited through the

Emily Grierson Traits
In William Faulkner s A Rose of Emily, Miss Emily Grierson says very little because she has no desire
to speak to anyone. Remove all of Miss Emily s utterances from the context of the story. Write them
down as you would a list. What three character traits can be inferred from her speeches? In three well
developed paragraphs, discuss three character traits revealed by Miss Emily s dialogue alone. Length:
350 500 words. Miss Emily is an old style southern belle ensnared in a culture bent on forcing her to
stay in her task. She adheres to the old ways even as she struggles to break free. When she is not even
40, she is on a way that entails dying alone in an apparently ghostly house. The story, A Rose for
Emily, opens to the viewing of Miss Emily s death. The tale summons up the Emily s through
flashbacks of several points, much like every persons mind in life when recalling (Faulkner, pg 56).
The speaker talks about how much of a trouble Miss Emily was to the township as a result of her old
fashion ways. All through the story, we learn about Miss Emily s partner standings and isolation. Her
character is a very old fashion woman who still believed in the confederate period and was follower to
those policies. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

considered as weak, or as reluctant to take a stand in opposition to her father in life. This opinion is
kind of like blaming the victim however. The bare sketch presented about her father portrays a man

In the 20th century the United States saw a massive increase and development in technologies.
Technologies in the 20th century greatly affected these three fields. Everyday work got affected
largely with industries and corporations becoming more mechanized causing a change in skills and the
reduction of workers. The introduction of commodities changed American lives with now more
entertainment and new luxuries which increased quality of life and added great convenience to the
American citizen; for example in the form of the automobile. The third major area where technology

two wars that made the United States the superpower of the world. Since they were both big

Gender, Ethnicity, And Class
The purpose of this paper is to assess two research based articles from a psychology journal from two
different time periods. The assessment was to compare the way gender, ethnicity, and class was
represented in each of the articles and how they differ from each time period. The articles were chosen
from the Journal of Personality and Social Psychology. The first article was from 1976 titled, Impact
of fear of success and sex role attitudes on women s competitive achievement (Peplau, 1976). The
second article of interest was titled, Psychological well being and job stress predict marital support
interactions: A naturalistic observational study of dual earner couples in their homes (Wang Repetti,
2014). The piece from 1976 was written by Letitia Anne Peplau and she wanted to compare results
from a previous experiment done by M.S. Horner in 1972 that measured the fear if success on women
s achievement to her own experiment on the same topic. Horner suggests that many women are in
conflict about intellectual and professional achievement (Peplau, 1976). Peplau wanted to compare
Horner s results to her own results when it concerned women s sex role attitudes of traditionalism and
liberalism. The goal was to see if there was a difference in the fear factor of success between the two
ideologies of dating women when they were on their own and when they were with their partners. She
also wanted to see if the fear of success was correlated differently to competition against

The Cost Of A Higher Education
All through life, most children are told that getting a higher education is the only way to have a
successful life. Each year the cost of college rises, with that the total student debt rises as more
students take out loans to help pay for his or her education. An astounding 1.2 trillion dollars is the
United States student debt amount, and every year it continues to grow. (Investor s Business, 2015, p.
A14). According to new reports, 27.3% of student loans are delinquent and that on average a student s
loan debts is roughly a little over $20,000. (Investor s Business, 2015, p. A14). Block (2014) says that
about 40% of loan borrowers had a balance less than $10,000 and that about 3.7% had balances that
were over $100,000.
Although these numbers can seem daunting and a little disconcerting, with the right knowledge and
education, students can obtain their degrees and have minimal debt to deal with. While Ā¬Ā¬Ā¬there are
loans and grants that students are able to receive, a higher education should be more affordable for
both students and parents of students. The need for a degree has increased dramatically since more and
more employers are requiring it. Students and parents of students are paying the price by going in debt
so they can hopefully get a better paying job. While most people are not in debt to the horrid student
loans, the student debt problem is not going away; we all know someone who is struggling to pay off
his or her student debt. The need to succeed can be a

Consequences Of The Louisiana Purchase
The Louisiana Purchase was done in the year 1803. In this purchase the United States of America paid
fifteen million dollars to get all the land west of the Mississippi River and east of the Rocky
Mountains. This transaction was done between Thomas Jefferson and the great Napoleon. The
question, however, still remains, was the Louisiana Purchase a necessity for the young growing nation,
or was the purchase an unconstitutional act done by President Thomas Jefferson himself despite some
doubts that people raised. Without owning an entire continent free of other great powers, not only
would this nation s global influence had been unthinkable, but the United States might never have
attained a place among the world s major countries. Regarding that, it is evident that despite the
constitutional questions and managerial challenges in the new territory, the purchase altered both
geographical and historical aspects, which could have been different if the border remained at the
Mississippi River.
Many Federalists opposed the Louisiana Purchase, warning of the dangers of westward expansion,
that it might be laid as a barren desert, and that the Purchase would weaken the New England
influence in national affairs by increasing Southern and Western interests in Congress. Apparently
some of the doubts with the acquisition raised crises as it opened some loopholes for abuse and held
that the Constitution did not allow for such territorial expansion or negotiation of treaties without the

An Example Of Physical Abuse
Abuse is behaviour towards a person which deliberately or unintentionally causes harm to them. It is a
violation of an individual s human and civil rights and in the worst cases can result in death. There are
6 types of abuse: Physical Abuse Sexual Abuse Emotional Abuse Financial Abuse Neglect
Discrimination Physical Abuse Physical Abuse is when someone physically causes you harm, this can
include things such as; hitting, kicking, pulling hair, pinching, scratching, shaking or (in a care related
situation), giving someone too much or not enough medicine. An example of physical abuse in care
setting is if you are to punch or kick someone intentionally to cause harm to them. Another example
would be a personal carer not giving an elderly person the correct amount of medicine at the right
times to cause harm. Sexual Abuse Sexual Abuse is when someone is making you do sexual things
and actions which might make you sad, angry or frightened. This includes things such as; being
touched when you do not want to be, being made to touch other people in ways you do not want to,
undressing or having sexual intercourse with someone when you do not want to, or being made to
watch or say sexual things when you do not want to. Sexual abuse is not always between strangers,
and can be between husband and wife, or two members of the family. An example of this is if a
boyfriend was to touch their girlfriend inappropriately and they did not want them to, or maybe the

These African religions are extremely important to many who wish to recognize their roots. In earlier
centuries these foreign practices were banned by slaves attempting to hold on to their culture, and over
the years they have come to represent a sense of liberation and freedom to be African (Brereton, A
History of Modern Trinidad). Overall nowadays the country s differing religious groups coexist and
generally respect each other s beliefs and practices. People of one faith openly participate in
celebrations of another faith [www.state.gov.htm].
Food is another obvious way to demonstrate the diversity of culture in Trinidad. As are the people,
food is influenced by almost every part of the world. There dishes traditional to the Caribbean,
prepared with products naturally found on the island. There are dishes with influences from the
Spanish conquistadors with their meats and different fruits, also the Indian immigration brought curry
flavors and dishes to Trinidad. A very well known Indian dish on the island is roti, which consists of
flat bread wrapped around a spicy stew of meat, potatoes, and vegetables. The English, French and

Miss Peregrine s Home For Peculiar Children
Miss Peregrine s Home for Peculiar Children is a science fiction novel that was presented to the
reading world in 2011 by Ransom Riggs. This year the characters of Riggs s novel made their way to
the big screen under the direction of Tim Burton. While critics rave about the wonders of Burton s
skills to transform the novel into a believable reality, I have some other views. My views dig past the
screen and break apart the struggles and decisions Burton made while directing. While I agree with
Hoffman, who noted this film is Tim Burton s best in 20 years (2016), there are some scenes that left
me confused and upset. To begin breaking down the adaptation, it must first be placed in a category.
This category tells us which form of adaptation it is and what we can expect under these
circumstances. I, personally, categorize this as a pluralist adaptation. During my screening of the film,
I spent a good chunk of my time looking for the analogies and similarities between the two. This made
it much easier to pick out the differences that lead me to conclude that the adaptation was pluralist in
nature. I also noticed how the film stuck quite closely to the novel s spirit, this made the film more
inviting and accurate. Riggs himself said in an interview that [Burton] took the ideas I had and made
them bigger and more vibrant than I d imagined (Riggs, 2016). Another characteristic of the film that
made it a pluralist adaptation is how much it exists as its own production; yet many

Music And Music Essay
For society music plays numerous roles in every individual s life whether that be from playing it,
singing, or even just listening to it, music effects everyone in some way and is used differently in
people s lives. Music can be used for art and self expression, amusement, relaxation, and leisure
according to Aristotle s reading From The Politics. Music has had many effects on society opening the
doors for creativity, inspiring the youth, and even educating. Artists construct songs that talk about
love, family, friendship s, politics, and life itself. Aristotle speaks on the usage of it and how it affects
the way we think and act under some circumstances. For me personally, music became a passion after
learning I can express myself in an environment where I can be comfortable. In the reading, Aristotle s
points are both practical and ideological as he makes a lot of points that can be made in today s time
while also giving his own opinion on a lot of subjects. There are many definitions for good music and
bad music that can potentially lead to good or bad mortality based upon the message in the song
especially if there are lyrics. When discussing music relating it to amusement, relaxation, and leisure,
Aristotle states that music is useful as a pastime in leisure, which is evidently the purpose for which
people actually introduce it (Aristotle Pg. 25). Aristotle uses leisure as an instance of coming from
work and using music as somewhat a pleasure. This point I

Descriptive Essay On Hyde Park
When it comes to Hyde Park I m reminded of all of those old Hollywood movies. I m pretty sure that
a werewolf or two once ran through Hyde Park and it was definitely mentioned in some Sherlock
Holmes movies. I also believe that Hyde Park is one of the most popular parks in London, England. It
is a part of the Royal Parks of London. Hyde Park is one of the greatest city parks in the world and has
over 4,000 trees as well as a large lake, a meadow and there are wonderful ornamental flower gardens.
It has something for everyone to enjoy. In the park people can swim, go boating, cycling and skating.

Among Hyde Park s special features are:
The large artificial lake which is known as the Serpentine, located at the south end of the park. This
lake extends onward toward the north and goes into Kensington Gardens where its name changes to
Long Water. The lake is very popular for swimming and boating.
To the southwest is the Diana, Princess of Wales Memorial Fountain which looks more like an
artificial stream. It is a circular fountain which is made up of 545 pieces of Cornish granite. Water
from it flows on two sides at the top and winds up in a small pool at the bottom.
Odd as it may sound there is Rotten Row. No nothing to do with anything rotten. It is located at the
south end of Hyde Park and is a famous bridle path. Rotten Row is about 4 miles long and is used for
horse riding and also for jogging. William III used this road quite often in the 17th century. Since the
king thought that the walk from Kensington Palace to St. James s Palace was most dangerous he had
the very first lit public road created by having oil lamps installed along it. Why Rotten Row? Because
it s derived from the French route du roi or King s

Rav Kook Essay
Rav Kook was an innovator and several generations ahead of the traditional orthodoxy. He did not
limit himself to Torah and Halacha, but his interest went beyond the limits of Jewish law. Kook was
versed with secular literature and philosophy, he was one of the founders of the Hebrew university and
his inaugural speech he tried to unify zion and Torah which in my option is a problematic marriage.
He was revolutionary in apply Jewish law relating secular laws in (Kashrut). This rejuvenation of

Rav Kook s revolutionary approach was to open up the constructs of Halacha to allow for a broader
roll for religious jews. Until that time Halacha god was only understood through the prism of Halacha,
it was Rav Kook that enlarged the boundaries of Halacha to include Zionism. That is why Rav Kook
had a picture of Herzl hung in his office and considered him as a modern Moses, even though Herzl
was a secular jew that had Christmas trees in his home. Rav Kook s revolutionary approach to the
Halacha was not to look at the religion soley from the perspective of that man is passive and only god
is active. By creating the bridge between Zionism to religion, he merited religious jews the freedom to
act and engage in history and not waiting for god to act. He was instrumental in allowing religious
Zionism to become active participants in their own destiny, as he stated The people of Israel are not a

Defense Logistics Agency
The Defense Logistics Agency (DLA) is the Department of Defense s (DODs) main logistics combat
support agency, providing global logistics support in both peacetime and wartime to all branches of
the military services as well as several civilian agencies and foreign countries. The DLA provides the
Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine Corps, federal agencies, and partner nation armed forces with a full
range of logistics, acquisition, and technical services. DLA provides and sources all of the consumable
things America s military forces need to work from sustenance, energy and fuel to uniforms, medicinal
supplies, and construction material. DLA likewise supplies about 90 percent of the military s extra
parts, deals with the reutilization of military hardware, gives inventories and different logistics data
items, and offers record automation and production services to a large group of military and
government organizations. The Defense Logistics Agency is headquartered at Fort Belvoir, Virginia,

All I Know About Manufacturing I Learned In Joe s Garage...
A book is portable knowledge. Such is the case of a book by William B. Miller and Vicki L. Schenk
titled, All I Need to Know about Manufacturing I Learned in Joe s Garage. Published by Bayrock
Press in 2012, this book has a short, easy to read style that helps the reader understand and apply
principles of world class manufacturing. In this book report, I will focus on story description and
literary elements, analysis, and evaluation of the story from a student s perspective. First of all, the
setting of the story takes place in the garage and backyard area of Joe s house. Joe is a company
colleague of Sandy, the protagonist of the story, who gives a first person perspective of Joe s weekend
shelf production project. Another major character is Ralph. He is Sandy s neighbor and a worker from
a different company. The mood of the story is serious, but down to earth, since its tone is conversation
rather than instructional. It follows that on the day ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
By giving a plot summary, I focus on Sandy s point of view, regarding Joe s Saturday shelf project.
Also, I mention that a third person point of view would help the reader to witness the thoughts and
actions of Joe, Ralph, and other project volunteers. Nevertheless, the book s simplicity allows the
reader to understand the workflow of Joe s project better. This creates a thoughtful, but conversational
tone that complements the story s overall mood. Since I find the book a useful, educational resource
for manufacturing engineering students and professionals, I would suggest it to other readers in my
field. The book offers a worthwhile reading experience that teaches many important key concepts in
world class manufacturing. As a result, readers gain much knowledge, as they learn how to design and

Schema for analyzing social welfare programs

Unit 3 A framework for understanding social welfare policy

Ralph Dolgoff and Ronald Feldstein proposed a schema for examining Welfare programs in their text,
Understanding Social Welfare: A search for social justice. This schema gives three basic areas under
which these programs could be examined. These areas are that of structural components, alternative
program characteristics and ways to evaluate the program. All of the aforementioned areas will be

According to Dolgoff and Feldstein, residual/ minimalist programmes are based on the premise that an
individual s need should be met through market economy and through family and therefore these types
of programs are seen as temporary . Residual programmes are basically seen as a type of back up for
the occasions when an individual is unable to meet his/ her needs through the intuitions regarded as
responsible for these needs. Another characteristic of residual or minimalist programmes is that the
programme should be withdrawn as soon as the individual is able to once again utilize the family and
market economy to acquire their needs. The Conditional Cash Transfer Programme CCTP, exemplifies
these characteristics and so is a residual or minimalist programme.. This is so because its main
purpose is to provide temporary food assistance to vulnerable persons and families with limited or no
income. One condition of this service is that the recipient of the service has to undergo skills training
which facilitates gainful employment. This condition is stipulated in order to facilitate recipients
gradually moving off the programme. Recipients will not be allowed to remain on the programme for
more than two years, unless otherwise advised.

Essay about African American Religious Music
African American religious music is the foundation of all contemporary forms of so called black
music. African American religious music has been a fundamental part of the black experience in this
country. This common staple of the African American experience can be traced back to the cruel
system of slavery. It then evolved into what we refer to today as gospel music. The goal of this paper
is to answer three main questions. What are the origins of African American religious music? How did
this musical expression develop into a secular form of music? What is the future of African American
religious music? These questions will be answered through factual research of African American
traditions, artists, and various other sources. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Gospel music was developed and inspired by the blues and jazz that was storming the country. Many
traveling, singing preachers began to accompany themselves with piano and guitar. An example of this
can be found with a gentleman who many refer to as the father of Gospel Music, Thomas A Dorsey.
The son of a minister, Thomas Dorsey was a consummate musician and as a young man, he
accompanied some of the most famous blues singers of all time including Bessie Smith and Ma
Rainey. He also arranged and composed blues tunes. However, his penchant for bouncy tunes and
bawdy lyrics did not keep him from attending the annual meeting of the National Baptist Convention.
It was at these conventions that Dorsey first heard compositions of Charles A Tindley. Tindley inspired
him. Musical historian Arna Bontemps argues that it was at this point in Dorsey s life when he began
to write religious music. He abandoned his brash lyrics but not the jazz rhythms and blues flavor.
Naturally, older conservatives considered this blending of sacred music, such as spirituals and hymns
with secular music, such as blues and jazz, to be devil s music. They shunned it and declared Dorsey s
brand of gospel music unworthy of a hearing within sanctuaries of the day. The traditional church
failed to see the positive influence contemporary

Okonchewo And His Father In Okonkwo
Okonkwo s story portrays the major differences between African culture and the idea that the Western
society had on the African culture. Okonkwo is native to the Umuofia tribe and represented this
oversized human being who with holds no emotion. All this makes Okonkwo seem very unrelatable
and unfriendly, but this is what makes his relationships with the characters in the book so entertaining.
For example, Okonkwo had a very negative connection with his father that affected him so much that
it brought him to the point where it changed his life and is also the reason why he is so strict with his
kids. With the introduction of these missionaries into the tribe, it completely changed the way the tribe
acted and ended up bringing Okonkwo to a point where he had to pay the ultimate price. It was all
because they couldn t get along.
The most influential person in Okonkwo s life both negatively and positively was his father because of
the way he changed Okonkwo. The relationship he had with his father was what gave him the
motivation to work harder and try and become a leader of the Umuofia tribe. Okonkwo did not like his
lazy father because of how little he had done for his family and himself. Okonkwo s goal was to be the
opposite of his father and to teach his kids not to be like his father. Achebe writes: But in spite of these
disadvantages, he had begun even in his father s lifetime to lay the foundations of a prosperous future.
It was slow and painful. But he threw himself

The Search For Happiness
Happiness is something that everyone, regardless of their background and experiences, search for in
life. This search for happiness is manifested in countless novels, theatrical plays, and films, and
involves at least one character who struggles to find purpose and joy in their life. A common theme in
these stories is the character s impression that there is something missing or inadequate with aspects of
their current identity. Thus, they believe that they must complete the missing piece of themselves to
achieve happiness. This is best demonstrated by Amedeo/Ahmed in A Clash of Civilizations Over an
Elevator in Piazza Vittorio and Xavier in L Auberge Espagnole. I believe that one s conceptualization
of their identity is actually an obstacle to happiness and that one can only be truly happy once they
embrace their true identity, which is often much different from the one they imagine. A Clash of
Civilizations Over an Elevator in Piazza Vittorio by Amara Lakhous focuses extensively on the
importance of identity in one s life, mainly in relation to ethnicity and religion. Identity plays such an
important role in the characters lives that it dominates the way the perceive each other, leading them to
radical and often negative conclusions. For example, when interviewed about a murder, the character
Benedetta makes statements like I m suspicious of that Albanian friend of Amadeo s (Lakhous 36) and
I m sure the murderer of Lorenzo Manfredini is one of the immigrants (Lakhous

Internal Conflict In Marigolds By Eugenia Collier
The short story Marigolds by Eugenia Collier discusses many struggles. The main protagonist
Lizabeth battles internally between her inner child and adult and externally with the effects of the
Great Depression. The internal conflict concerns Lizabeth s hesitation toward becoming an adult. The
external focuses on how the Great Depression causes her family to struggle financially. These strifes

In the external conflict, Lizabeth and the rest of her shantytown confront poverty and unemployment.
The African American population, including the protagonist, faces the worst of the Great Depression.
The Depression that gripped the nation was no new thing for us, for the black workers of rural

1.2 Similarities and Differences
The growing use of information visualization (IV) tools and data mining (DM) algorithms stems from
two separate lines of research. Information visualization researchers believe in the importance of
giving users an overview and insight into the data, while data mining researchers believe that
statistical algorithms and machine learning can be relied on to find the interesting patterns [4].
However, there are some similar points between these two technologies. The input of information
visualization is information, while the input of data mining algorithm is data. The aim of information
visualization is to represent information to enhance human thinking. Human beings will think more

of DM is to generate patterns for further use, which also helps humans to make sense of data.
The input data of these two technologies is also comparable in terms of the dimensions: both are

Pascal s Wager Research Paper
Blaise Pascal, a genius, mathematician, physicist, and religious philosopher, says that there are two
options in the benefits of life when it comes to theism. The two choices are: to believe in God, or not
to believe in God. Pascal calls this dilemma a wager. It is a wager because there are different gains and
losses from the two options, depending on whether or not God exists. If God exists, the believers will
have eternal life, and the non believers will receive damnation. If God does not exist, the believers
will have been left out on the material fulfillments, and the non believers will have reaped those
benefits. Pascal s wager could be used as an evangelism method, because it can be used to frighten

for their own benefit, rather than for the love of Christ. The belief could be pretended, and the person

No Noura dear, you have to understand that I am having a bad back pain, I cannot walk because my legs hurt, my eyes are weak, and I cannot hear properly. How many times do I have to convince you, that you are healthy? Can you please let it go? I said. Every Monday night when you visit us, you always complain how bad your health is. I added. Noura, listen to her problems gently; she hardly expresses how she feels to anyone, father said, to calm me down. This is the usual argument that takes place in my house, every Monday when my step grandma Wadha Al Bahar visits us. She is eighty two years old, and when she comes over it is a good reason for me to listen to her complaints; however, I can t take her usual complaints anymore. ... • 4. Analysis Of The Entertainer By Scott Joplin The Entertainer by Scott Joplin The Entertainer composed by Scott Joplin, was created because, rag time in the 1902 was extremely popular between 1897 1917 . Moreover this music piece is resurrected for our entertainment in the 1973 Oscar winning movie The String The famous song published by John Stark Son of St. Louis, in the summer of December 29, 1902 was an song created for the lovers of ragtime music and dancers of the two step piece that was popular during this period. The original piece key signature is C Major but got transposed to F major for Tenor Saxophone playing. Therefore, the time signature is 4/4 with a tempo of 77 BPM with Mezzo Forte being the starting dynamic. One of the many style that you could analyze this ragtime piece is by using AA, BB, A, CC and in the second time DD. This technique was used in what many commentators would say African Americans... use.... freedom of speech in order to enhance their identity and presence in the United States of America , giving in those times a more inferior community, in America, a freedom a way to communicate. Throughout the song, the tone of the piece gives off a relaxing sound but gets tedious after a while since there is not much variation between the notes, and is quite repetitive all through the piece. The rhythm of the song is 4/4 timing which makes the characteristic identity with ragtime in its two step andate. Highlighted throughout the musical piece, there a waves of ostinato due to the ... • 6. Napoleon Bonaparte s Big Dictator In Small Packaging Big Dictator in Small Packaging Tall, dark, and handsome are not the adjectives one might use to describe Napoleon Bonaparte. Vulgar, ruthless, and conniving are the ones some would if they were so inclined... Despite the controversy over the shockingly short man s rule, his road to success and his untimely downfall undeniably played a large role in shaping modern France. However, what is more interesting is what shaped this historic dictator. And, it all began with his birth. Napoleon Bonaparte s early life turned from bitter sadness to unexpected accomplishment. Born August 15, 1769 into a large, impoverished family during a war between his homeland Corsica and the mighty France, it seemed that, even then, his livelihood and well being were being challenged. His parents, Letizia and Carlo, wrestled to keep food on the table after the French war, and chose to move to France to pursue a better life. To Napoleon s distaste, his father was quick to submit to French customs and began to dress and behave just like a Frenchman ( To Destiny ). Furthermore, when Bonaparte turned nine, his father gave him his first stepping stone by procuring him a scholarship to a French school. It was at this school that Bonaparte began to truly feel set apart. With his yellow, Corsican skin, prideful ambience, and the fact that he hardly spoke French, Napoleon did not even try to fit in. At the age of fifteen, he attended the Royal Military Academy of France. One teacher described him as, quiet and solitary. Frightfully egotistical. Proud, ambitious, aspiring to everything ( To Destiny ). He would go far, his school report read, in favorable circumstances ( To Destiny ). However, in 1785 at the age of 16, he finished school and secured the title of Second Lieutenant. • 7. Comparing The Handmaid s Tale And The Blind Assassin Margaret Atwood uses allusions and symbolism to convey the idea that society strips women of their full potential in order to justify their oppression. This can be seen in her novels through the constraints placed on the main female characters. In The Handmaid s Tale Atwood depicts a dystopian society which appears to be an extreme version of the oppression present in today s society; whereas, in The Blind Assassin Atwood analyzes oppression through a more realistic lens. Atwood begins the novel, The Handmaid s Tale with three epigraphs. The first alludes to Genesis 30:1 3, which states: And when Rachel saw that she bare Jacob no children, Rachel envied her sister; and said unto Jacob, Give me children, or else I die. In this purchase the United States of America paid fifteen million dollars to get all the land west of the Mississippi River and east of the Rocky Mountains. This transaction was done between Thomas Jefferson and the great Napoleon. The question, however, still remains, was the Louisiana Purchase a necessity for the young growing nation, or was the purchase an unconstitutional act done by President Thomas Jefferson himself despite some doubts that people raised. Without owning an entire continent free of other great powers, not only would this nation s global influence had been unthinkable, but the United States might never have attained a place among the world s major countries. Regarding that, it is evident that despite the constitutional questions and managerial challenges in the new territory, the purchase altered both geographical and historical aspects, which could have been different if the border remained at the Mississippi River. Many Federalists opposed the Louisiana Purchase, warning of the dangers of westward expansion, that it might be laid as a barren desert, and that the Purchase would weaken the New England influence in national affairs by increasing Southern and Western interests in Congress. While critics rave about the wonders of Burton s skills to transform the novel into a believable reality, I have some other views. My views dig past the screen and break apart the struggles and decisions Burton made while directing. While I agree with Hoffman, who noted this film is Tim Burton s best in 20 years (2016), there are some scenes that left me confused and upset. To begin breaking down the adaptation, it must first be placed in a category. This category tells us which form of adaptation it is and what we can expect under these circumstances. I, personally, categorize this as a pluralist adaptation. During my screening of the film, I spent a good chunk of my time looking for the analogies and similarities between the two. This made it much easier to pick out the differences that lead me to conclude that the adaptation was pluralist in nature. I also noticed how the film stuck quite closely to the novel s spirit, this made the film more inviting and accurate. Riggs himself said in an interview that [Burton] took the ideas I had and made them bigger and more vibrant than I d imagined (Riggs, 2016). Music And Music Essay For society music plays numerous roles in every individual s life whether that be from playing it, singing, or even just listening to it, music effects everyone in some way and is used differently in people s lives. Music can be used for art and self expression, amusement, relaxation, and leisure according to Aristotle s reading From The Politics. Music has had many effects on society opening the doors for creativity, inspiring the youth, and even educating. Artists construct songs that talk about love, family, friendship s, politics, and life itself. Aristotle speaks on the usage of it and how it affects the way we think and act under some circumstances. For me personally, music became a passion after learning I can express myself in an environment where I can be comfortable. In the reading, Aristotle s points are both practical and ideological as he makes a lot of points that can be made in today s time while also giving his own opinion on a lot of subjects. There are many definitions for good music and bad music that can potentially lead to good or bad mortality based upon the message in the song especially if there are lyrics. When discussing music relating it to amusement, relaxation, and leisure, Aristotle states that music is useful as a pastime in leisure, which is evidently the purpose for which people actually introduce it (Aristotle Pg. 25). Aristotle uses leisure as an instance of coming from work and using music as somewhat a pleasure. This point I ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

First of all, the setting of the story takes place in the garage and backyard area of Joe s house. Joe is a company colleague of Sandy, the protagonist of the story, who gives a first person perspective of Joe s weekend shelf production project. Another major character is Ralph. He is Sandy s neighbor and a worker from a different company. The mood of the story is serious, but down to earth, since its tone is conversation rather than instructional. It follows that on the day ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... By giving a plot summary, I focus on Sandy s point of view, regarding Joe s Saturday shelf project. Also, I mention that a third person point of view would help the reader to witness the thoughts and actions of Joe, Ralph, and other project volunteers. Nevertheless, the book s simplicity allows the reader to understand the workflow of Joe s project better. This creates a thoughtful, but conversational tone that complements the story s overall mood. Since I find the book a useful, educational resource for manufacturing engineering students and professionals, I would suggest it to other readers in my field. The book offers a worthwhile reading experience that teaches many important key concepts in world class manufacturing. As a result, readers gain much knowledge, as they learn how to design and implement similar ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Data inconsistency may result when updating takes place. 2. Waste of space is unavoidable. We shall deal with this issue in Section E.5 by introducing the concept of a virtual record. E.2 Tree Structure Diagrams A tree structure diagram is the schema for a hierarchical database. Such a diagram consists of two basic components: 1. Boxes, which correspond to record types 2. There are many different ways to transform this E R diagram to a tree structure diagram. All these diagrams, however, share the property that the underlying database tree (or trees) will have replicated records. The decision regarding which transformation should be used depends on many factors, including The type of queries expected on the database The degree to which the overall data base schema being modeled ļ¬ts the given E R diagram We shall present a transformation that is as general as possible. That is, all other possible transformations are a special case of this one transformation. To transform the E R diagram of Figure E.6a into a tree structure diagram, we take these steps: 1. Create two separate tree structure diagrams, T1 and T2, each of which has the customer and account record types. In tree T1, customer is the root; in tree T2, account is the root. 2. Create the following two links: depositor, many to one link from account record type to customer record type, in T1 2. account customer, a many to one link from customer record type to ac count record type, in T2 The resulting tree structure diagrams appear in Figure E.6b. Schema for analyzing social welfare programs University of the West Indies Soci 2023 Social Policy and Administration I Unit 3 A framework for understanding social welfare policy Discussion Question Ralph Dolgoff and Ronald Feldstein proposed a schema for examining Welfare programs in their text, Understanding Social Welfare: A search for social justice. This schema gives three basic areas under which these programs could be examined. These areas are that of structural components, alternative program characteristics and ways to evaluate the program. All of the aforementioned areas will be examined in this paper, in relation to a local Social Welfare program The Targeted Conditional Cash Transfer Programme. According to Dolgoff and Feldstein, residual/ minimalist programmes are based on the premise that an individual s need should be met through market economy and through family and therefore these types of programs are seen as temporary . Residual programmes are basically seen as a type of back up for the occasions when an individual is unable to meet his/ her needs through the intuitions regarded as responsible for these needs. Another characteristic of residual or minimalist programmes is that the programme should be withdrawn as soon as the individual is able to once again utilize the family and market economy to acquire their needs. The Conditional Cash Transfer Programme CCTP, exemplifies these characteristics and so is a residual or minimalist programme.. This is so because its main purpose is to provide temporary food assistance to vulnerable persons and families with limited or no income. One condition of this service is that the recipient of the service has to undergo skills training which facilitates gainful employment. This condition is stipulated in order to facilitate recipients gradually moving off the programme. Recipients will not be allowed to remain on the programme for more than two years, unless otherwise advised. Secondly the Conditional Cash Transfer Programme displays the characteristics of a selective program. That is, the eligibility of its potential clients is based upon the ... • 31. Essay about African American Religious Music African American religious music is the foundation of all contemporary forms of so called black music. African American religious music has been a fundamental part of the black experience in this country. This common staple of the African American experience can be traced back to the cruel system of slavery. It then evolved into what we refer to today as gospel music. The goal of this paper is to answer three main questions. What are the origins of African American religious music? How did this musical expression develop into a secular form of music? What is the future of African American religious music? These questions will be answered through factual research of African American traditions, artists, and various other sources. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Gospel music was developed and inspired by the blues and jazz that was storming the country. Many traveling, singing preachers began to accompany themselves with piano and guitar. An example of this can be found with a gentleman who many refer to as the father of Gospel Music, Thomas A Dorsey. The son of a minister, Thomas Dorsey was a consummate musician and as a young man, he accompanied some of the most famous blues singers of all time including Bessie Smith and Ma Rainey. He also arranged and composed blues tunes. However, his penchant for bouncy tunes and bawdy lyrics did not keep him from attending the annual meeting of the National Baptist Convention. It was at these conventions that Dorsey first heard compositions of Charles A Tindley. Tindley inspired him. Musical historian Arna Bontemps argues that it was at this point in Dorsey s life when he began to write religious music. He abandoned his brash lyrics but not the jazz rhythms and blues flavor. Naturally, older conservatives considered this blending of sacred music, such as spirituals and hymns with secular music, such as blues and jazz, to be devil s music. They shunned it and declared Dorsey s brand of gospel music unworthy of a hearing within sanctuaries of the day. The traditional church failed to see the positive influence contemporary ... • 32. Okonchewo And His Father In Okonkwo Okonkwo s story portrays the major differences between African culture and the idea that the Western society had on the African culture. Okonkwo is native to the Umuofia tribe and represented this oversized human being who with holds no emotion. All this makes Okonkwo seem very unrelatable and unfriendly, but this is what makes his relationships with the characters in the book so entertaining. For example, Okonkwo had a very negative connection with his father that affected him so much that it brought him to the point where it changed his life and is also the reason why he is so strict with his kids. With the introduction of these missionaries into the tribe, it completely changed the way the tribe acted and ended up bringing Okonkwo to a point where he had to pay the ultimate price. It was all because they couldn t get along. The most influential person in Okonkwo s life both negatively and positively was his father because of the way he changed Okonkwo. The relationship he had with his father was what gave him the motivation to work harder and try and become a leader of the Umuofia tribe. Okonkwo did not like his lazy father because of how little he had done for his family and himself. Okonkwo s goal was to be the opposite of his father and to teach his kids not to be like his father. Achebe writes: But in spite of these disadvantages, he had begun even in his father s lifetime to lay the foundations of a prosperous future. It was slow and painful. But he threw himself ... • 33. The Search For Happiness Happiness is something that everyone, regardless of their background and experiences, search for in life. This search for happiness is manifested in countless novels, theatrical plays, and films, and involves at least one character who struggles to find purpose and joy in their life. A common theme in these stories is the character s impression that there is something missing or inadequate with aspects of their current identity. Thus, they believe that they must complete the missing piece of themselves to achieve happiness. This is best demonstrated by Amedeo/Ahmed in A Clash of Civilizations Over an Elevator in Piazza Vittorio and Xavier in L Auberge Espagnole. I believe that one s conceptualization of their identity is actually an obstacle to happiness and that one can only be truly happy once they embrace their true identity, which is often much different from the one they imagine. A Clash of Civilizations Over an Elevator in Piazza Vittorio by Amara Lakhous focuses extensively on the importance of identity in one s life, mainly in relation to ethnicity and religion. Identity plays such an important role in the characters lives that it dominates the way the perceive each other, leading them to radical and often negative conclusions. For example, when interviewed about a murder, the character Benedetta makes statements like I m suspicious of that Albanian friend of Amadeo s (Lakhous 36) and I m sure the murderer of Lorenzo Manfredini is one of the immigrants (Lakhous ... Information visualization researchers believe in the importance of giving users an overview and insight into the data, while data mining researchers believe that statistical algorithms and machine learning can be relied on to find the interesting patterns [4]. However, there are some similar points between these two technologies. The input of information visualization is information, while the input of data mining algorithm is data. The two choices are: to believe in God, or not to believe in God. Pascal calls this dilemma a wager. It is a wager because there are different gains and losses from the two options, depending on whether or not God exists. If God exists, the believers will have eternal life, and the non believers will receive damnation. If God does not exist, the believers will have been left out on the material fulfillments, and the non believers will have reaped those benefits.
