Social Moderation And The Environment Of Sexism
Social Moderation and the Environment of Sexism
We have all heard of different accounts of sexism on the news; a man beating his wife, controlling
someone s actions, and objectification of women. Though how many times is it reported when
someone compliments on how someone looks, or on something that they do well? While personal
compliments can seem acceptable, it slowly erodes our gender equality and results in consequences in
our society. This damaging concept is known as benevolent sexism, as it is less socially present
compared to hostile sexism. While the majority of people know, and recognize hostile sexism and the
consequences it has on our society; benevolent sexism is not as socially noticed and treated the same
as hostile sexism. The environment that houses each type of this sexism is a serious issue in today s
society as both are commonly used, but given social moderation due to the environment that it takes
place in. We should not continue to allow the social moderation we establish amoung sexism and its
environment. Tannenbaum defines benevolent sexism as a set of connected concepts towards women
that are sexist in terms of stereotypically viewing women in their subjugated roles while leaving a
pleasant tone (208). The stealth like factor of benevolent sexism is what makes it so powerful in today
s society, as a lot of people view it as chivalrous, rather than dangerous. While being almost invisible
compared to hostile sexism, social activism for benevolent sexism is drastically decreased due to that
factor.
The effects of benevolent sexism put both male and women in a case of danger, and social impact. In
the case of danger, people need to stand for what they believe and not be subject to being put in the
position that others believe them to be. These stereotypes affecting not only women but men too.
Stereotypes for men that are the most harmful are that men are supposed to be these creatures of
power and strength. That man shouldn t show emotion, or cry because that is a sign of weakness.
While women are subjected to the idea of being delicate flowers and these mothering figures that need
a man. Although there are damaging stereotypes and social impacts, there is a very thin line between

Economies Of World Powers Essay
Economies of World Powers
Before WWI The End of WWII A country without a strong economy will lack to make an impact on
the world stage for the foreseeable future. As a country, your power is as strong as the amount of
money you can generate, and share with the rest of the world. Think of the global economy as a group
of friends; Sam, Ben, and Günter, who are all wealthy in their own way. Let s say Günter and Ben
have resources that Sam wants, Sam will pay for it, which adds to Günter and Bens wealth. Now
having money, Günter and Sam buy resources that Sam has. All three then take the resources they
acquired, and the wealth they gained to develop new technologies and systems that each can use

This is where the problem starts. Throughout its history the U.S. has gone through crisis after crisis
from poor management, and the selective trust that the stock market offers. The market was
responsible for a financial panic in 1907 in which, The Knickerbocker Trust was unable to save itself
from failure, and the public started to fear that the banking and trust industries were experiencing
liquidity issues and the runs on banks began (US History for Kids 5). Once these liquidity issues
started it was in some people s minds that Teddy Roosevelt would break apart these powerful trusts.
For this reason, investors stopped funding the banks and took their money out of the banks. In turn
causing a trickle down effect that lead many non investing people to do the same. The Panic of 1907
lasted a little less than a month, but was enough to give U.S. citizens a scare. A few years later in 1913
the U.S. announced, the creation of the Fed and income tax (Domitrovic 1). The Panic made people
behave more cautiously with their money, which is a problem if people save too much, these taxes
made this cautious spending a problem. The federal and income taxes caused people to hoard their
money more than they had before these taxes were announced. Growth of the U.S. economy slowed

Informative Essay Courage
Informative Essay: Courage What feeling emerges in our hearts when we hear the word Courage ?
Profound respect, fear, regards or may be...nothing. This word has a long history and its starting point
is from the Latin word coraticum. The root cor signifies heart . Recently, after the world entered
English through French it was finished with an English suffix age, which denotes action or the
consequence of action. So actually it signifies an action that originates from a heart, or strictly
speaking it is a respectable action. The topic of this essay is the explanation of the contemporary
definition of courage . In what sense is this word utilized by contemporary individuals? The primary
explanation of the use of this term is to portray individuals who have a quality of thinking that permits
them to face risk without apprehension, which is likewise alluded to as fearlessness or daring. The
definitions of this word are various; however since the world around us changes, the definitions
change as well. For example, if I discuss the autonomy of word I can define courage as the individual
s strength to express what he thinks on this case . In this essay, I am going to tell that how society or
the dictionary defines the word courage and then I will explore my new and intriguing definition of

The definition for courage, as characterized by Daniel Webster seems to be that quality of mind or
spirit enabling one to meet danger or difficulties/ opposition with firmness/fearlessness. The words
that make courage a related term are risk and resistance. Also, the dictionary definition of courage is
the mental energy to overcome fear and confront threat or resistance or other unfriendly perimeter,

Pectinase Reaction Lab Report
3.5.3. Optimization of medium components for pectinase production by strain name using Plackett
Burman experimental design: The Plackett Burman experimental design, a fractional factorial design,
was used in this part of work to demonstrate the relative importance of medium components on
pectinase production and growth of strain name. Seven independent variables as shown in (table 11) in
eight combinations were organized according to the Plackett Burman design matrix as in (table 12).
For each variable, a high (+1) and low ( 1) level was tested. All trials were performed in triplicate,
with culture volume 50 ml in 250 ml Erlenmeyer flask and each experiment was repeated twice, with

component. The average of results of pectinase activity and protein content are presented in (table

variable upon enzyme activity and protein content was estimated and represented graphically in
(figure 12, 13) respectively Show that the highest pectinase activity was recorded for trial no. 6 while
the lowest activity was recorded for trials No. 7 and 1. The main effect with a positive sign indicates
that the high concentration of this variable is nearly optimum and a negative sign refer to that the low
concentration of this variable is nearly optimum. The data obtained showed a range of positive main
effect values refer to that the presence of high levels of orange peel, Na2HPO4, MgSO4.7H2O and
NaCl in the production medium positively affects pectinase production by strain name. On the other
hand, the presence of NH4Cl, KH2PO4 and Inoculum size at their lowest levels would result in higher

Sana, Weston, Cepeda (2013), Laptop multitasking hinders learning for both users and nearby peers.
Computers Education 62 (2013): 24 31.
Question: When referring to the article by Sana, Weston, Cepeda (2013), the reader will find both a
specific and broad question. The broad question being asked is whether or not memory retention is
hindered by multitasking. The specific questions being asked are whether or not students who use
laptops to multitask in class experience lower levels of information retention and if the multitasking of
some students negatively effects the memory retention of their surrounding peers.

Method: In Experiment 1, 44 undergraduate university students were chosen to participate in an
introductory psychology course lecture accompanied by a questionnaire. Only students with access to
a personal laptop were asked to join. Based on a screening process, four participants were removed

Dispositional, Evolutionary And Evolutionary Theory
Dispositional, and Evolutionary Theory Nicholas DeRico PSY/405 August 24, 2015 Dispositional,
Biological and Evolutionary Theory Abstract There are many theories that attempt to clarify the
structures that influence personality, for example dispositional, and Evolutionary theory. This paper
will discuss the differences that are among dispositional and evolutionary personality theories, as well
as, strengths and limitations of dispositional and evolutionary and biological personality theories their
bearing on human behavior. Furthermore, the Big Five personality test and what technique is used to
study personality. Difference Facets relating Dispositional, and Evolutionary Theory The premises of
dispositional theories fluctuate from those of other theorists because they present the basis of study for
personality; Dispositional theorists believe that behavior is significant and adaptive. People don t
merely adapt to their environments, but are also aware of their environment and relate to it, in order to
shape their social environment (Feist, 2013). Dispositional theory argues that personality is not an
unchanging structure, but unpredictable because of our psychological and physical originalities.
Allport describes personality as a dynamic organization present in all humans which influence one s
psychophysical structures and determines their characteristic behavior and cognitive functions (Feist,
2013). Dispositional theories are mutually diverse relating to

Psychological Resistance In A. S. Byatt s Possession
Chapter three Psychological Resistance In more detail, A.S Byatt s Possession is redolent of certain
aspects of Freudian psychology, more specifically, repression. In this novel the reader is told of the
undertakings of the main character Roland Mitchell not only because of growing up in a society filled
with a pretty blank day but because of growing up in the hands of a drunken mother. A.S Byatt writes
that [H]e thought himself as a latecomer and adds: He (Roland) had arrived too late for things that
were still in the air but vanished, the whole ferment and brightness and journeying s and youth of the
1960s, the blissful dawn of what he and his contemporaries saw a pretty blank day. Through
psychedelic years he was a school boy in a depressed Lancashire cotton town. His father was a minor

Such redirection for Roland at first stage is non conscious repression of those feelings. He represses
those anxiety producing feelings to protect him against emotional issues which are probably the most
valuable and intuitively accessible picture of his internal mental that he has. Of course the painful
Memories and urges which are exiled to Roland s unconscious, will not fade. In fact they will continue
to have an influential effect on his behavior through whole his life. There are some forces, which try to
keep painful or socially undesirable thoughts and memories out of the conscious mind. These forces
are called defense mechanisms. There is a continuous combat between the wish (repressed into the id)
and the defense mechanisms. Defense mechanisms are used to protect one from feelings of anxiety or
guilt, which arise because one feels threatened, or because ones id or superego becomes too

perspective. The way Google motivates its employees and leads them to develop and create a new
world is unique. Because the company, the founders and all employees share the same value and
vision. What Google provides is not a job; it s a place where their employees dream can come true.
That motivates all employees constantly pushing the limits and broadened our imagination.
The report also investigates Google s hiring practices and job design principles. Google has its very

Those ten points all illustrate Google s culture. The definition between having fun and working hard

Google s motivation
We admit that every employee in Google is the best of the best, but they are not the only reason of
Google s success. All that talent is meaningless unless employees have been fully motivated and

All the employees in Google are well known as Googlers . And they are proud of this nickname! They

College Athletes Should Not Be Paid Essay
Amongst the controversy surrounding the NCAA s recent crackdown on violations with regards to
college programs compensating players and players accepting compensation from universities and
outside sources, one question has understandably been brought up. It is a question that was bound to
be asked sooner or later, and one without an obvious answer: should college athletes be paid? It is one
of the biggest, if not the biggest, question that surrounds the world of college sports. The answer, quite
simply put, is no. Allowing universities to pay students athletes to participate in sports would require a
complete overhaul of the NCAA rule book. At this stage, too many questions need to be answered:
how much would athletes get paid? Where ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Some schools also bring in considerably more money than others from their sports programs. Schools
like the University of Florida and the University of Alabama would have no problem using the money
brought in by football and basketball to pay all of their athletes (which would still be going against the
aforementioned sports ethics, but let s pretend for a little bit). That is all fine and dandy, but what
about smaller market schools like Bethune Cookman University and the University of Montana?
These schools bring in more than $50 million less than the previously mentioned schools. Not only
does this limit the amount of money these schools could use to spend on paying athletes, it puts them
at a great disadvantage from a recruiting standpoint. This is an extremely important piece of
information. Aside from the idea of maintaining amateurism, the entire reason that the NCAA has
rules against paying players and players accepting said compensation for play is to keep the recruiting
game fair. As nice as it would be, it would be nigh impossible to compensate athletes with the revenue
that they bring in, which further muddies the discussion on where money would even come from if
athletes were to be paid. Some people would say, raise tuition . To put it nicely, institutes of

My Counseling Goals
My first goal was to be able to use basic counseling skills within my counseling sessions and working
on learning more about creating appropriate treatment plans on my own. I did quite a bit of reading of
books, such as treatment planners and also met with both of the Post Docs at my site to learn how they
approach treatment planning. I was able to get some good insight on how my approach may differ
from others and that this is okay. I learned that in this journey it is very important to know what
theoretical orientation you are using to think about change.

of this goal, I have reviewed my group counseling textbook from last semester and watch videos that
were recommended based on Yalom s group teachings for about one hour every two weeks thus far. I
have investigated the 11 curative factors so that I could write appropriate group formatted notes. Also,
I have joined a research project at our clinic related to individual and group tracking that will better
our clinics group program. I have worked with one of our Post Docs and my undergraduate supervisee
to explore how group outcomes and tracking can be implemented in a clinic, such as the PRACTICE.
The expected outcome was that I would understand the process group dynamics and the 11 curative
factors further. I have done so this far and am continuing to better understand what it would mean to
track group experience in my current research project at the clinic. This also has helped me as a
counselor in training to see if what I am doing is working within the group setting. By doing my own
research I can see, which measures work best within the group setting and

Disadvantages Of Free Range Parenting
Free range parenting is a type of way to help a kids early, young, and adolescent stages of their life
with their skills and abilities as well as for teaching them how to be self supportive and to learn how to
become a responsible young adult to be a better prepared for the future. In free range parenting their is
no specific way of raising your child due to the fact that their can be several methods but what i do
think is that their should be only one way when it comes to parenting. Free range parenting of course
can and may have many negative but also many positive outcomes as well depending on the type of
technique the set of parents are using and by the way their kids are being raised and treated over the
years of their teen life. Every set of parents have their own technique, tactic, or method when it comes
to parenting but at times the way they do it isn t the correct one to utilize at a child s young age. The
three types of free range parenting methods that their is are the Abusive or neglectful parents, the
prepared developmentally parents, and finally the helicopter type of parents. An extreme kind
parenting parent is an abusive or neglectful type of way that some children get from the parents since
they don t get or receive enough support, help, and assistance from their parents. A prepared
developed set of parents are the type of parents that most people prefer because they re responsible

Gynocentric Granules in Gloria Naylor s Mama Day Anslin Jegu J., Asst. Prof. of English, Panimalar

Abstract This paper strews a panoramic view of Gynocentrism as a literary critical theory and its
ramification in the form of the human relationship. Gynocentrism is a radical feminist dictum that
scrutinizes the identity crises, culture, psychic, and the social consciousness female with the women

Gynocentric feminism thus, prompts a vision of femininity and odds with androcentric and misogynist
formulations that have traditionally been assigned to women. It extols feminity as a source of values
by which, it castigates the androcentric society. Gynocentrism is perhaps best seen as a traditional
phase in feminist theory, which capitulates its voice for addressing the wholesale marginalization of
women s voice.
On the contrary to gynocentrism, Elaine Showalter an American critic, feminist and writer quibbles
for the realignment of the conceptual standpoints of literary studies by seeing writings of women as
primary rather than marginal. She also flicks to identify the aberration in women s penning and
investigates how psychodynamics of female creativity shapes the literary productions and readings
differently from those of men. Having coined a new appellation, Gynocritics in her cameo, Towards A
Feminist Poetics, she contends that the programme of gynocritics is to evolve a female frame work for
the analysis of women s literature and to develop new methods based on the study of female
experience rather than to adopt male s models and theories. In order to diagnose the female difference,
the gynocritical approach is sought to study the history, styles, themes, genres and structure of
penmanship by women. The writers like, Adrienne Rich and Susan Griffin have also manifested the
gynocritical writing.

Jefferson Davis
An Analysis of Jefferson Davis By: Blayden McLeod History 131 2101 John D. Sulentic September 3
Thesis Statement: Jefferson Davis was a very incompetent President and showed it by his policies and
lack of action during the Civil War Jefferson Davis was born June 3rd, 1808 on a small farm in
southwestern Kentucky from his parents Samuel Davis and Jane Cook Davis. After spending most of
his childhood life in the southern frontier of Mississippi, he decided to receive a quality education,
mainly because of his brilliance and strong intelligence. He attended many schools before he went on
to complete a four year term at West Point Military Academy which later appointed him a Second
Lieutenant in 1828. Davis was then commissioned to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One of the first major issues President Davis had to deal with was the decision to bombard Fort
Sumter. President Lincoln had basically notified the South Carolina Governor that he was sending a
ship with provisions to Fort Sumter, which is off the coast of Charleston, but actually the ship was
armed with troops. Confederate intelligence had intercepted this knowledge beforehand and they had
six men of war ships outside to intercept the ship. General Beauregard of the Confederate army was
given direct order from President Davis to demand immediate evacuation of Sumter and to use force if
there was no compliance. The Union Major Anderson ignored the commands and on April 12, 1861,
the Civil War had officially begun when Confederate troops bombarded Sumter. Anderson shortly
surrendered and sent the message to the North that is was no longer time for diplomatic solutions.
Davis felt Lincoln had maneuvered the south into firing the first shot and Davis said The assault was
made by sending a hostile fleet. Davis was forced to take active measures for defense when Lincoln
declared war on the South on April 15th and gathered many grateful volunteers who were glad to fight
for there cause. Later, and against Davis will, Richmond was voted the capitol of the Confederacy.
Despite Davis uncanny knack for being stubborn, he

Interview Summary Of Peter Holloway s On Virtual...
Interview summary for Peter Holloway, conducted on October 8, 2015 by Anita Sommer for the IRI
Virtual Experimentation and Simulation project.
Peter Holloway is a Systems Engineer with Rolls Royce Limited. He leads a team of simulation tool
developers that code, refine, and integrate existing modeling tools that are used in the preliminary
design phases of their jet engines. The preliminary design stages involve identifying candidate engine
architectures, preparing proposals, and presenting proposals to customers such as Boeing and Airbus.
Peter has been involved in simulation for about ten years in a number of different companies and at
various levels. His team consists mostly of domain experts that have lent themselves to programming,
with between three and five years of systems design experience.
Rolls Royce has a culture of allowing its engineering staff to develop experimentation and simulation
tools within their domain of expertise. Often however, these domain experts are not experienced
programmers and the tools the engineers develop are used by only a few people within that domain.
Peters team takes these tools, improves the code, making the tools more robust, and most importantly
from a simulation point of view, making the different tools talk to each other in whole system
simulation software.
Rolls Royce Ltd. uses virtual experimentation and simulation on both their products and processes
because it helps the company meet cost and time objectives when delivering

The Creation of Israel Israel was not created in order to disappear Israel will endure and flourish. It is
the child of hope and the home of the brave. It can neither be broken by adversity nor demoralized by
success. It carries the shield of democracy and it honors the sword of freedom. These are John F.
Kennedy s thoughts and opinions upon the creation of Israel. In the time leading up to the creation of
Israel, the Jews had endured much suffering through the terrible acts of the Holocaust. Jews have
proven to rise from the despair and the suffering that they had to endure and they ultimately created
something stupendous: their own country. There have been many obstacles in the way for the Jews to
do this, the biggest being the Arab Palestinians. The Arab Palestinians objected to the Arab Jews
forming a nation and if it were not for the help of the United States, Israel would have never been able
to overrule the power of the Arab Palestinians and take over the land for themselves. With tremendous
support from the United States, the creation of Israel exemplifies the joyous and magnificent
accomplishment that not only Arab Jews accomplished, but all Jews. In the time leading up to the
creation of Israel, the Jews were motivated to establish their own country in the territory of Palestine
with the support of other countries around the world. There were many contributions that lead to the

I Am Proud of Who I Am Essay
Ralph Waldo Emerson once said To be yourself in a world that is trying to make you something else is
a great accomplishment . Who am I? is question that many often struggle to answer, but for me it
allows me to differentiate from my constituents and express who I really am. What makes me such a
unique individual is my ability to identify with 5 strong strengths. I love the fact that I am futuristic
and I have the ability to relate, I am responsible, I am a developer and last but not least I am
disciplined. Each one these themes shape and generate my personality. Born on February 22nd 2000 I

Whenever I set a goal, I first ask myself is the goal realistic and reachable and secondly if I am willing
to make changes in my life to reach those goals. While I have several goals there are a few that are
imperative to reach. One of them being a counseling center for underprivileged girls ages K 12. As a
victim and an advocate for bullying I want to highlight the situation and teach the girls how to detect
signs and how to deal with a bully. I had my parents to help me but my goal is to target those that don
t necessarily receive that attention at home. Self esteem will also is a big topic surrounding girls in that
age group I want to teach them about positive body image and the importance of loving yourself.
Obtaining my Ph.D. is another meaningful goal I intend to achieve; with myself being the first
generation from my family to attend a major university I feel the need to reach my highest potential.
Setting big goals, taking small steps and being focused in my pursuit I know I will achieve all I set my
mind to. The definition of a relator is someone who is especially talented in enjoying close

those of my parents. All I am I owe to my

Why Trump Shouldn t Cut Funding For Sesame Street
Why Trump Shouldn t Cut Funding for Sesame Street Waking early every morning hoping to see the

how to express myself. Who taught me feelings were ok and how to make friends. As well as I, I know
they are millions of kids across the nation who woke up early to see the furry red puppet on their TV

The diversity and the friendly like of the characters grabs the attention of parents and children
watching the show. As well as different cultures and religions are depicted to the audience, in a form
of education and entertainment. Your child will not even know they are learning but in fact they will
be just laughing at singing along with the furry animals. The diversity that Sesame Street utilizes
allow for children to feel a sort of connection to the show as maybe they are bright and bubbly like
Elmo or are tall and more serious like Big Bird. This shows how everyone is different and despite the
fact they are different they are still all able to be friends . Even if it s being friends with a small furry
little monster . Taking this show from children would take away their social awareness. Knowing that
it is ok to be different,to have different personalities than other kids who they are friends . Sesame
Street shows children how make friends how not to be afraid to talk to another girl or boy , and how
they can all be friends and play together . Recently Sesame Street created a new muppet to join the
Sesame Street family . The new muppets name is Julia , the muppet is different than all the muppets
Sesame Street has created before. Julia is a young girl who has autism. This new character will portray

Comparing Buddhist And Hindu Architecture
Lesson 2 Hindu and Buddhist architecture both have an extended history on sensuousness involved in
their religious buildings. The Khajuraho s Vishvanatha (Lord of the World) Temple built in 1002 CE
during the Chandella dynasty consist of four towers each of which extend higher than the other. This
temple was dedicated to Shiva (the destroyer god in Hindu), and it was constructed to signify Shiva s
mountain home. While he is known as the god of destruction he is also recognized as the regenerative
force of the Hindu religion. The northern Indian style Visvanatha Temple s exterior walls exhibit the
idea of Shiva s regenerative force by depicting humans, gods, and yakshis (a female earth spirt

Analysis Of Toni Morrison s Beloved
Throughout American history there have been multiple instances of inequality between races, classes,
and genders. Toni Morrison s novel Beloved is a story that truly shows how oppressive slavery was
during the setting of the book. Similarly to the inequality faced during the time of slavery, while
Morrison was writing the her novel the issue of women s equality was present, and being fought for.
Morrison, through Beloved, is able to show the world her views on inequality, and how it is still
present in life today. Morrison is African American, she was born into a family of four children with a
hard working father. He was primarily a welder, but also did other things to provide for the family. She
credits her parents for founding her love of reading and music. She lived in an integrated
neighborhood, but did not become aware of segregation until she was older. When she was in first
grade she was the only black child in her class, and she was also the only one who couldn t read, but
no one then thought less of her for this. Morrison kept pursuing her education, but she got married to a
man who she later was separated from, and he moved back to Jamaica. She was a single mother,
which is just like Sethe. Morrison takes care of her kids without much male influence which is a big
deal during 1980. Prior to beginning her Beloved, Morrison decided to leave her job. She was free of
her obligations for the first time after doing this. I was happy, free in a way I had never been,

The Battle At Bunker Hill
The Battle at Bunker Hill had many events leading up to, and causing the event. The first of these was
the Battle at Lexington and Concord which ultimately slowed the British down and keeping them
inside Boston by Minute Men. Then Fort Ticonderoga was captured by Benedict Arnold, and the
Green Mountain Boys. These two events were the start of the tensions between Great Britain and the
Colonies. Later this tension became physical and appearing on the battle field. The Colonies decided
they needed to talk about it, so the Second Continental Congress took place, it was here that it was
decided that the Colonies would try and separate from their Mother Country, so the Continental Army
was formed the Congress came to a conclusion All voted in favor and Washington became the new
Commander in Chief (Yost, 2011, p. 2). The Continental Army s first mission was to fortify Breed s
Hill and defend it from the British coming from Boston, which Breed s Hill and Bunker Hill
overlooked. The British wanted these positions in order to completely fortify Boston and drive all the
Patriots out of the area. On June 16, 1775, a day before the actual battle was fought, the Colonial
Army decided to move from Bunker Hill to Breed s Hill. This is where most of the battle was fought;
it was never correctly changed since the fight. The reason for the switch is simple, and makes sense
for the small, independent and poor militia. The men built earthen fortifications on top of Breed s Hill,

Descriptive Power Of Nature
Deep in the mountains in the southwest corner of North Carolina is a river unlike any other. Halfway
through my perilous rafting journey, there was a moment when time stood still. I witnessed a natural
phenomenon which displayed the beauty of nature at its finest. During that moment, I realized the
insignificance of humanity, and why we should respect the overwhelming power of nature. The
Nantahala is a whitewater river nestled in a valley with steep mountains flanking it on all sides. The
forest it was situated in is the only temperate rain forest east of the Mississippi River. The rafting
Industry has adopted this river as its premier destination. I was a 14 year old Boy Scout on a three day
camping trip in the Nantahala Gorge. The weather was cloudy with periodic rain showers throughout
the day and night. The temperature was at the mid 80 s but never got above the 90 s. I was in a bright
yellow raft shared amongst five of my companions and a rafting Guide who went by the name Bones.
Bones was a Caucasian man with dreads in his hair, tattoos of paddles shaped as a pirates cross on
both of his arms, and was massively strong. We floated down the river like leaves down a stream;
constantly fighting to stay upright and not be cast overboard by the restless aggression of the rapids.
We were part of the way through a two hour journey down the Nantahala river. It had rained
continuously throughout the trip, which meant we were soaked to the bone and fighting hypothermia.

Varying Interpretations of Heart of Darkness and Apocalypse Now
The true meaning of varying interpretations comes alive when one compares the two film versions of
Heart of Darkness by Joseph Conrad. Heart of Darkness and Apocalypse Now have the same basic
outline and underlying themes, however the plots, characters, settings, time, purposes, and points of
view differ enough to create two extremely different effects and two entirely opposite movies. Both
movies depict an insanity: of man in Heart of Darkness and of war in Apocalypse Now. It is ironic that
Heart of Darkness, the movie replica of the novel, is a boring, slow paced flop of a production, while
Apocalypse Now, a loosely based film, had great success and audience ... Show more content on

Marlow watches Kurtz die and whisper his last words, The horror! The horror! Marlow returns home
to visit Kurtz s fiancé and, instead of telling her that Kurtz went crazy in the jungle, he upholds her
belief that Kurtz was a great man. The story flashes back to present time where the Nellie is sailing
away into the heart of darkness (Heart of Darkness: Theme/Symbol/Allusion/Foreshadow).
The similarities between the novel and movie versions of Heart of Darkness are numerous, right down
to exact quotations, costumes, and scenes. In the opening scene, Marlow describes his expedition into
the Congo as the farthest point of navigation and the culminating point of my experience exactly as in
the book (Conrad 70). The movie accurately depicts the women knitting black wool and the colored
map with the snake like river as Conrad vividly describes them (pp. 73 74). The mood of the scene
when Marlow and his crew finally approach Kurtz s Inner Station is also well depicted with the foggy
air, the noises in the forest (p. 110), the fighting of the crew members (pp. 110 114), the eyes hiding in
the bushes (p.114), the swarm of arrows that attack the boat and kill Mfumu, (pp. 119 120) and the
cannibals falling from the trees after Mfumu is thrown overboard (p. 124). The mental image of Kurtz
that Conrad portrays in his physical and emotional description is also shown suitably in the

Eurodisney
Euro Disney: The First 100 Days The decision to open a theme park in France was not the best idea.
There were many factors that proved to hinder the advancement of progress in regards to the European
extension of Disney since its inception. The foremost would be that of the civil unrest that seemed to
plague France at the time Euro Disney was scheduled to open. There were protests, transportation
strikes, terrorist threats, etc. all which directly or indirectly affected the Euro Disney s attendance.
Also, the $10 million ad campaign seemed very costly, especially considering the fact that this was
more than two decades ago. French critics seemed to be excessively harsh as well. On a positive note,
it had a premier location. It was ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Euro Disney should have made the core of its theme park employee s ones who already were
employed with Disney in the US or US citizens familiar with Disney. If Euro Disney is contemplating
proceeding with a second phase, it would not be a recommended step. The company needs to first
address the issues at hand, low attendance for example, or poor customer service. After handling those
issues, only then will the company is ready to proceed with the next step. Euro Disney has learned
many lessons, the foremost being that the countries reception of a company can positively or
negatively affect the sales of said company. This is evidenced by the extremely negative reviews and
harsh French criticism received by Euro Disney and the company not meeting expectations. The park
should not be adapted for the local market because that is not what the consumer is looking for. The
customer wants to have the Disney feel, and to take away from that by making changes to it takes
away the opportunity for them to obtain that Disney feel. In regards to staffing, Euro Disney should
have outsourced to the US. Because most US citizens are familiar with the Disney culture, they would
be better suited to relay said culture to the European population as Disney employees. Works Cited 1.

Corporate Social Responsibility and Stakeholder Capital
Corporate Social Responsibility and Emergent Models in Management of Stakeholder Capital in

Abstract
The paper adopts a social benefit cost analysis framework to look at three stages in the historical
development of management of stakeholder capital of corporations in the Philippines. The first two
stages were government driven. Stage One is internalization and moderation of some social costs
starting with the Environmental Impact Statement System adopted by the Philippine government
under President Marcos in 1981. Stage Two consists of reforms in the political economy started in ...

contribution was down to 75.4%. Because of the global financial crisis, as of April 5, 2009, this figure

Features Of A Relational Database
Features of a relational database
Primary keys:
The main feature of a relation database would be the primary key. It is a unique identifier set to each
and every record that travels across different tables in relationships. An example of a primary key is a
Social Security number. The primary keys job is to make each record unique and it lets data to be kept
in more than one table. Each table within a relational database will have a field for the primary key.
Foreign keys:
A foreign key is a column in a database that links data between tables by cross referencing because it
references primary keys from other tables. For example if there are two tables, customer and order

Validation rules
Validation within a database is used to make sure the data entered into the database is sensible and
makes sense, also to avoid any typing errors. You make a rule which only allows certain things to be
typed into the database e.g. only 11 numbers for a mobile phone number so that you don t accidently
type the wrong amount of digits. It will come up as an error if you try and then that is when you notice
your mistake. Benefits
Having a relational database will greatly reduce the data redundancy because it will get rid of the
repeated data within a database. This is done by going through the normalisation process and therefore
since there is less data in the database it is much faster access, searching data, updating data, sorting
and reporting.
Stages of normalisation
The steps of normalisation will be fully explained in the following steps: Firstly you need to turn this
into a unormalised table by:
Create column headings for the table for each data item on the report and ignore any calculated

Comparison Of Grendel And Frankenstein
If a tree falls in a forest and no one is around to hear it, does it make a sound? Similarly, if a being is
never provoked by man, will it become a monster? The latter is a question that is put into focus
throughout Gardner s Grendel and Shelley s Frankenstein. The reader learns of Grendel, and of
Frankenstein s creation, and must determine if they are truly monsters or merely a product of the
world they live in. It is very easy to take one glance at the seemingly heinous crimes committed by
Grendel and Frankenstein s creation, and based off of this, deem them to be monsters. However, it is
the actions and words of man that transform both Grendel, and Frankenstein s creation into monsters.
Both Grendel, and Frankenstein s creations go through personal transformations throughout their
lives. They both begin life as innocent creatures with no intention to wreak havoc. Victor Frankenstein
created his creature and then immediately ran away from it in fear. In reality, the creature just wanted
to be loved and His jaws opened, and he muttered some inarticulate sounds, while a grin wrinkled his
cheeks (Shelley 59). The creature was brought to life, and his first instinct was to emit a loving smile,
but he was met with a scream of terror. Similarly, Grendel began his life as a righteous and pure
creature. When Grendel was approached by drunken men wielding battle axes, he sank to my knees,
crying, Friend! Friend! (Gardner 52). This proves that Grendel s initial instinct was to befriend the
men, despite their hostile approach. While the men continued to hack at Grendel he merely held up a
body for protection (Gardner 52) instead of fighting back. Grendel could have easily overpowered and
killed the men if he wanted to but he chose to simply protect himself. Both creatures started off as
innocent and pure until man got involved. Grendel could only take so much neglect and abuse before
he transformed into the monster that readers recognize him to be. The actions of man were nothing
short of monstrous, and they caused Grendel to turn into a monster. The men did not allow Grendel
into the Mead Hall and they tried to kill him whenever they saw him. Even when man was not doing
something directly to Grendel, their

Thrasymachus Vs Plato
Friedrich Nietzsche and Thrasymachus both depict their account of justice and morality. On the
Genealogy of morals and The Republic of Plato share similarities but express different views on the
genesis of justice and morality. The first account on the genesis of justice and morality, Thrasymachus
expresses that justice and morality are naturally beneficial to the ruling class. In a similar manner,
Nietzsche states that the genesis of justice and morality is created by the people in power, and the

In the same manner, Nietzsche states that the citizens are forced accept the rules put forward and are

justice is nothing other than the advantage of the stronger. (Republic I, 338b). The stronger being the
ruling class who set forward the rules and laws that govern behavior. The first account set forward by
Thrasymachus supports the view that the views of true morality are devised as a reflection of
particular political communities. Thrasymachus believes that the definitions of good morality and bad
morality set forward by the ruling class are not necessarily correct. In addition, Thrasymachus argues
that this is disadvantageous to everyone else and only beneficial to those in power, each ruling group
sets down laws for its own advantage (Republic I, 338d). The argument states that by acting morally
benefits those in power, and acting immorally negatively affects people in power and benefits the
oneself. In a similar manner, Nietzsche states that the genesis of justice and morality is created by the
people in power, and the weaker are forced to accept it. The people in power refer to the ruling class

defines good morality by their actions oppose to referring to a true definition of morality, The
judgement good does not derive from those whom goodness is shown! Rather, the good themselves
that is, the noble, the powerful, the superior, and the high minded were the ones who felt themselves

characteristics of the ruling class and bad morality refers to people who are concerned with what is

Essay The Making of Apollo 13
The Making of Apollo 13
When making Apollo 13, Ron Howard s intention was to make his film as exciting as possible. He
wanted to make a chemistry on set that would show throughout the film. Ron wanted Apollo 13 to be
realistic, as well as exciting and enjoyable.
Within the characters, Ron wanted to capture their real personalities. This was done by the actors
(Tom Hanks and Kathleen Quinlan) meeting the real life Jim and Marilyn Lovell. They each spent a
day in their home to help capture the right characteristics and get a real idea how they felt.
To make the film realistic and scientifically correct, actors and the film crew went to NASA in Florida

Ron and the actors also met the real crew and used the astronaut s descriptions to help make the scenes

Ron made the film accurate by researching facts, using real events and phrases, talking to NASA and

1. Promote global awareness.
2. Internationalize the curriculum.
3. Adopt instructional practices that incorporate international dimensions.
4. Provide resources that address international/global dimensions of business.
5. Provide faculty development programs in international business.
Global Awareness
With the growth of multinational corporations and increased trade among nations, workers need to
understand global conditions, development, and trends. Such issues as population growth, wealth
distribution, environmental concerns, diseases, and political and social problems as well as cultural
issues such as religious beliefs, customs, and family structure have implications for a country s
business activity and practices. The study of such issues will enhance students abilities to engage in
job related problem solving and decision making in ways that reflect knowledge of and respect for
other cultures (McLaughlin 1996).
Classroom study, even when it includes international content, cannot provide the extent of global
awareness that one

Critical Analysis Of Extremely Loud And Incredibly Close
Extremely Loud Incredibly Close is a 2005 book by Jonathan Safran Foer about a young boy dealing
with the death of his father in the attacks on September 11, 2001. A critical analysis of the firebombing
of Dresden and how it connects and grows the main themes of the novel will be stated forthwith.
Oskar Schell was nine years old when his father was tragically taken from him by two jetliners flown
by terrorists. This was especially unfortunate for him as his father seemed to be the only person that
fully understood how Oskar s Aspergers affected him and could use that to keep Oskar in a state of
growth. Thomas Schell, Oskar s father, would assign Oskar reconnaissance missions in which the
young boy had to converse with strangers and do other tasks in order to grow his social skills and get
him out of his shell. This was the point at which the class noticed that Oskar s father seemed to be
such a great father to make up for the fact that his own father was absent for his entire life. This moves
onto the analysis of Thomas Schell Sr. Thomas Schell Sr. lived in Dresden Germany as a child and
was raised there. As a young boy, Thomas was full of hope, love, and emotion. Today, the city of
Dresden represents a devastation incendiary bombing by the allies near the end of the second world
war. Thomas lived through this bombing and lost the love of his life as well as his unborn child. The
young man was hunkering down in a cellar attempting to shelter from the burning when he realized
that Anna, his lover, was missing. Insisting on going back out despite his parent s wishes, Thomas
went headstrong into the inferno. After the bombing, Dresden was encompassed by a firestorm
blowing air heated to hundreds of degrees fahrenheit at hurricane speeds. This brings to mind the
devastating dust cloud that touched down in NYC after the WTC attacks. This moves onto the next
chronological analysis. There are quite a few striking similarities in Oskar s and Thomas situation and
this helps to strengthen and connect Foer s novel. Oskar and Thomas both experienced extreme loss at
a relatively young age. Thomas went through the death of his lover and unborn child, while Oskar
experienced the death of the only man

Omaha, Nebraska
Home
Omaha, Nebraska is a beautiful city, but my heart belongs to Los Angeles, California. There are some
beautiful places here in Nebraska. We have beautiful lakes, hiking trails, the Iowa Nebraska bridge
downtown, and we actually get all four seasons here. But, I feel like nothing will ever compare to
California. First of all, in California, you could hike, surf, ski, and ride dune buggies all in the same
day! There are so many trails and canyons to hike, so many beaches to sun bathe, and so much more
variety when it comes to restaurants. I love that here in Nebraska we have plenty of amazing steaks,
but I just miss the abundance of seafood in California, which we lack here. I may sound biased, but I
ve given Nebraska a try for almost two ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
You ll thread through Monterey, Carmel, and Big Sur. Don t get me wrong, there s some really pretty
scenic drive here in Nebraska too, but I just love the ocean view way more. When you re in California,
make sure to stop and check out some historical sights such as the Grand Hearst Castle. I haven t even
gotten started on the San Francisco Bay Area. You have the South Bay, East Bay, Peninsula, North
Bay, and San Francisco, each of which having something interesting to offer. In the South Bay, there s
San Jose and Santa Clara County, which many often describe as the heart of Silicon Valley. It s the
tech, innovation capital of the country, and offers companies such as Google, Facebook, eBay, Apple,
Intel, and the Nasa Ames Research Center. Silicon Valley stretches slightly into the Peninsula. The
Peninsula has some impressive scenery especially along the coast you have those mysterious beaches
on Half Moon Bay and Moss Beach, and these awe inspiring mountains in La Honda, Woodside, and
Pescadero. On the tip of Peninsula, you can find San Francisco! San Francisco is home to the best
restaurants, smartest, and the sharpest people. The Golden Gate Bridge, Fisherman s Wharf, the
Transamerica Pyramid, sports, those charming Victorian houses and apartments, cable cars, tech start
ups, culture, and nightlife. It s no wonder some people name it the best city in America. On the East
Bay, you have the exotic, somewhat dangerous but sharp and pretty cities of Oakland, Fremont, and
Berkeley. The North Bay sports Napa Valley Wine

The Importance Of Right To Privacy
Right to privacy is the right inclusive of, and goes beyond; property and body. It preserves the very
sanctity of the person. Right to privacy is the right which secures a person s intellect, feelings and the
spiritual nature. The Supreme Court in the case of Smt. Gian Kaur v. The State of Punjab held that the
term life as discussed under Article 21 includes A life with human dignity . The scope of article 21 has
been widened to a great deal by the brilliant judgements and now it isn t restricted to merely basic
human needs . The most recent judgement by the Supreme Court 9 judge bench in Justice K S
Puttaswamy (Retd.) and Anr. v. Union of India and Anr. Wherein the Supreme Court gives every
person to live in a separate core and that core is inviolable i.e. a life without any interference from
others. While we discuss the concept of collective social welfare and giving up of Rights, the extent to
which rights can are curtailed cannot be looked upon. Even Justice Kishan Kaul in his separate
Judgement has acknowledged as follows The right to be , though not extinguished for an individual, as
the society evolved, became hedged in by the complexity of the norms. There has been a growing
concern of the impact of technology which breaches this right to be , or privacy by whatever name we
may call it. In this paper we primarily discuss the impact of the AADHAAR scheme over the
Fundamental Right to Privacy. Even for discussing the legal aspect of AADHAAR it is almost

How Does Don Giovanni Affect The Current World
Don Giovanni and Its Relations to Current World
Don Giovanni by Wolfgang Mozart is one of the finest and well written ophera piece that introduces a
fallen character who seduces women only for his own good and eventually receives eternal
punishment for his misbehaviour. It is hard to miss that the purpose of this opera is to teach how its
sinful to mistreat any subject of God. Anyone who sin will get punish and everyone who seek for
justice will receive their just. Don Giovanni by Wolfgang Mozart portrays how people need to respect
each others, which people seem to continually fail even in the modern days.
The purpose of this music piece was clear: Mozart wanted to teach people to not abuse each others but
respect as who they are. Mozart shared ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The three main female character s diverse range of soprano, vary from dramatic soprano to spinto,
describes the pain of each female which let viewers understand why Mozart wanted people to know
that the act of aggression must be end. Their vocal range allow viewers to feel the pain and how such
aggression disturb innocent people s lives. Donna Elvira suffered from Don Giovanni s betrayal from
the past, and yet couldn t move on even after she realize that he betrayed her once again in the last act.
Her heart was broken. Donna Anna lost her father, her happiness because of Don Giovanni s assault.
She also lost her joyness to marry someone she loves due to the grief and agony. Zerlina constantly
questioned by her beloved fiance because she was seen with a man, Don Giovanni, whom only tried to
use her for sex. Their lives were turned upside down because of one man s ambitious of seducing
innocent females. Those victims conducted #Me_too movements were people like these three
characters. They were abused and demand fair

Use of Force Continuum Essay
A use of force continuum is a standard that affords law enforcement officials security officers (police,
probation, or corrections) with guidelines as to how much use of force may be used against a repelling
subject in a given situation. In certain ways it is similar to the military s escalation of force. The
reason of these models is to clarify, both for officers and citizens, the complex subject of use of force
by law officers. They are often vital parts of law enforcement agencies use of force policies. Although
various agencies have developed different models of the continuum, there is no universal standard
model (Stetser, 2001, p. 36)
The initial examples of use of force continuum were developed in the 1980s and early ... Show more

Hard controls includes the use of tools such as hand cuffs, while soft controls compares to empty hand
techniques, describing techniques where the officer must engage a resisting detainee. When escalating,
intended submission to cuffs is a feasible way to prevent the need for empty hand submission
techniques which place the officer and the detainee at physical risk. When decreasing, hard controls
(i.e.: cuffs and isolation in the rear seat of a cruiser) gives officers a reasonable and achievable goal
after a dispute with a detainee during which higher levels of force may have been mandatory.
1. Physical Presence: Depending on the entirety of the conditions, a call/situation may require
additional officers or an on scene officer may request assistance in order to gain better control of the
situation and gain more safety for themselves. Depending on the circumstances of the situation: for
example, depending how many people are on scene with the officer determines if a larger presence is
required. However, if ten officers arrive at a scene with only a single suspect, the suspect may
perceive he is under arrest; as a large police presence can constitute an arrest based on the suspect s
perceptions.
2. Verbal Commands: Stop! ; Put the gun down! ; Please calm down.
3. Soft Control: Empty hand combat technique or PPCT (Pressure Point Control Techniques)
4. Hard Control: Intermediate Weapons (i.e.: baton , Taser, OC Spray, etc.)
5. Deadly Force. That force

The Effects Of Obesity On Public Health
Introduction
Obesity is a traditionally first world health problem that is a growing concern throughout the world
because of its negative effects on public health as well as the wider economy.
According to both the WHO and the NHS, an individual s Body Mass Index (BMI), is an imperfect,
yet effective tool for measuring obesity. The WHO definition has determined that a BMI of 25 29.9 is
classified as being overweight, whereas a BMI of 30 34.9 is considered to be a sign of obesity (World
Health Organization, 2014).The NHS goes on to add that it is useful to consider an individual s waist
circumference as fit and muscular people can also have a relatively high BMI without an excess of fat,
and classifies men and women with waist circumferences of 90cm and 80cm respectively as being at
risk for obesity related health conditions (Nhs.uk, 2014).
Obesity must be dealt with early and at the local level. In the London borough of Hammersmith and
Fulham, 20.1% of year 6 children are classified as obese, high compared to the national average of
18.9%. Conversely, only 13.3% of adults in this borough are obese, much fewer than the national
average of 23.0% (Public Health England, 2014). This high prevalence of childhood obesity exists
despite the area doing well with traditional indicators such as physical activity and uptake of school
lunches. An unpublished 2012 report explained that the greatest risk factors found were eating
practices and familial obesity, although depravity,

  • 2. Social Moderation And The Environment Of Sexism Social Moderation and the Environment of Sexism We have all heard of different accounts of sexism on the news; a man beating his wife, controlling someone s actions, and objectification of women. Though how many times is it reported when someone compliments on how someone looks, or on something that they do well? While personal compliments can seem acceptable, it slowly erodes our gender equality and results in consequences in our society. This damaging concept is known as benevolent sexism, as it is less socially present compared to hostile sexism. While the majority of people know, and recognize hostile sexism and the consequences it has on our society; benevolent sexism is not as socially noticed and treated the same as hostile sexism. The environment that houses each type of this sexism is a serious issue in today s society as both are commonly used, but given social moderation due to the environment that it takes place in. We should not continue to allow the social moderation we establish amoung sexism and its environment. Tannenbaum defines benevolent sexism as a set of connected concepts towards women that are sexist in terms of stereotypically viewing women in their subjugated roles while leaving a pleasant tone (208). The stealth like factor of benevolent sexism is what makes it so powerful in today s society, as a lot of people view it as chivalrous, rather than dangerous. While being almost invisible compared to hostile sexism, social activism for benevolent sexism is drastically decreased due to that factor. The effects of benevolent sexism put both male and women in a case of danger, and social impact. In the case of danger, people need to stand for what they believe and not be subject to being put in the position that others believe them to be. These stereotypes affecting not only women but men too. Stereotypes for men that are the most harmful are that men are supposed to be these creatures of power and strength. That man shouldn t show emotion, or cry because that is a sign of weakness. While women are subjected to the idea of being delicate flowers and these mothering figures that need a man. Although there are damaging stereotypes and social impacts, there is a very thin line between ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Economies Of World Powers Essay Economies of World Powers Before WWI The End of WWII A country without a strong economy will lack to make an impact on the world stage for the foreseeable future. As a country, your power is as strong as the amount of money you can generate, and share with the rest of the world. Think of the global economy as a group of friends; Sam, Ben, and Günter, who are all wealthy in their own way. Let s say Günter and Ben have resources that Sam wants, Sam will pay for it, which adds to Günter and Bens wealth. Now having money, Günter and Sam buy resources that Sam has. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This is where the problem starts. Throughout its history the U.S. has gone through crisis after crisis from poor management, and the selective trust that the stock market offers. The market was responsible for a financial panic in 1907 in which, The Knickerbocker Trust was unable to save itself from failure, and the public started to fear that the banking and trust industries were experiencing liquidity issues and the runs on banks began (US History for Kids 5). Once these liquidity issues started it was in some people s minds that Teddy Roosevelt would break apart these powerful trusts. For this reason, investors stopped funding the banks and took their money out of the banks. In turn causing a trickle down effect that lead many non investing people to do the same. The Panic of 1907 lasted a little less than a month, but was enough to give U.S. citizens a scare. A few years later in 1913 the U.S. announced, the creation of the Fed and income tax (Domitrovic 1). The Panic made people behave more cautiously with their money, which is a problem if people save too much, these taxes made this cautious spending a problem. The federal and income taxes caused people to hoard their money more than they had before these taxes were announced. Growth of the U.S. economy slowed greatly ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

People don t merely adapt to their environments, but are also aware of their environment and relate to it, in order to shape their social environment (Feist, 2013). Dispositional theory argues that personality is not an unchanging structure, but unpredictable because of our psychological and physical originalities. College Athletes Should Not Be Paid Essay Amongst the controversy surrounding the NCAA s recent crackdown on violations with regards to college programs compensating players and players accepting compensation from universities and outside sources, one question has understandably been brought up. It is a question that was bound to be asked sooner or later, and one without an obvious answer: should college athletes be paid? It is one of the biggest, if not the biggest, question that surrounds the world of college sports. The answer, quite simply put, is no. Some schools also bring in considerably more money than others from their sports programs. Schools like the University of Florida and the University of Alabama would have no problem using the money brought in by football and basketball to pay all of their athletes (which would still be going against the aforementioned sports ethics, but let s pretend for a little bit). That is all fine and dandy, but what about smaller market schools like Bethune Cookman University and the University of Montana? These schools bring in more than $50 million less than the previously mentioned schools. Not only does this limit the amount of money these schools could use to spend on paying athletes, it puts them at a great disadvantage from a recruiting standpoint. This is an extremely important piece of information. Aside from the idea of maintaining amateurism, the entire reason that the NCAA has rules against paying players and players accepting said compensation for play is to keep the recruiting game fair. As nice as it would be, it would be nigh impossible to compensate athletes with the revenue that they bring in, which further muddies the discussion on where money would even come from if athletes were to be paid. Gynocentric feminism thus, prompts a vision of femininity and odds with androcentric and misogynist formulations that have traditionally been assigned to women. It extols feminity as a source of values by which, it castigates the androcentric society. Gynocentrism is perhaps best seen as a traditional phase in feminist theory, which capitulates its voice for addressing the wholesale marginalization of women s voice. On the contrary to gynocentrism, Elaine Showalter an American critic, feminist and writer quibbles for the realignment of the conceptual standpoints of literary studies by seeing writings of women as primary rather than marginal. She also flicks to identify the aberration in women s penning and investigates how psychodynamics of female creativity shapes the literary productions and readings differently from those of men. Having coined a new appellation, Gynocritics in her cameo, Towards A Feminist Poetics, she contends that the programme of gynocritics is to evolve a female frame work for the analysis of women s literature and to develop new methods based on the study of female experience rather than to adopt male s models and theories. In order to diagnose the female difference, the gynocritical approach is sought to study the history, styles, themes, genres and structure of penmanship by women. • 19. Jefferson Davis An Analysis of Jefferson Davis By: Blayden McLeod History 131 2101 John D. Sulentic September 3 Thesis Statement: Jefferson Davis was a very incompetent President and showed it by his policies and lack of action during the Civil War Jefferson Davis was born June 3rd, 1808 on a small farm in southwestern Kentucky from his parents Samuel Davis and Jane Cook Davis. After spending most of his childhood life in the southern frontier of Mississippi, he decided to receive a quality education, mainly because of his brilliance and strong intelligence. He attended many schools before he went on to complete a four year term at West Point Military Academy which later appointed him a Second Lieutenant in 1828. Davis was then commissioned to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... One of the first major issues President Davis had to deal with was the decision to bombard Fort Sumter. President Lincoln had basically notified the South Carolina Governor that he was sending a ship with provisions to Fort Sumter, which is off the coast of Charleston, but actually the ship was armed with troops. Confederate intelligence had intercepted this knowledge beforehand and they had six men of war ships outside to intercept the ship. General Beauregard of the Confederate army was given direct order from President Davis to demand immediate evacuation of Sumter and to use force if there was no compliance. The Union Major Anderson ignored the commands and on April 12, 1861, the Civil War had officially begun when Confederate troops bombarded Sumter. Anderson shortly surrendered and sent the message to the North that is was no longer time for diplomatic solutions. Davis felt Lincoln had maneuvered the south into firing the first shot and Davis said The assault was made by sending a hostile fleet. Davis was forced to take active measures for defense when Lincoln declared war on the South on April 15th and gathered many grateful volunteers who were glad to fight for there cause. Later, and against Davis will, Richmond was voted the capitol of the Confederacy. Despite Davis uncanny knack for being stubborn, he ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Interview summary for Peter Holloway, conducted on October 8, 2015 by Anita Sommer for the IRI Virtual Experimentation and Simulation project. Peter Holloway is a Systems Engineer with Rolls Royce Limited. He leads a team of simulation tool developers that code, refine, and integrate existing modeling tools that are used in the preliminary design phases of their jet engines. The preliminary design stages involve identifying candidate engine architectures, preparing proposals, and presenting proposals to customers such as Boeing and Airbus. Peter has been involved in simulation for about ten years in a number of different companies and at various levels. His team consists mostly of domain experts that have lent themselves to programming, with between three and five years of systems design experience. Rolls Royce has a culture of allowing its engineering staff to develop experimentation and simulation tools within their domain of expertise. Often however, these domain experts are not experienced programmers and the tools the engineers develop are used by only a few people within that domain. Peters team takes these tools, improves the code, making the tools more robust, and most importantly from a simulation point of view, making the different tools talk to each other in whole system simulation software. Rolls Royce Ltd. uses virtual experimentation and simulation on both their products and processes because it helps the company meet cost and time objectives when delivering ... Kennedy Joey Dettore Mrs. Whitney Global Perspectives 3/15/16 The Creation of Israel Israel was not created in order to disappear Israel will endure and flourish. It is the child of hope and the home of the brave. It can neither be broken by adversity nor demoralized by success. It carries the shield of democracy and it honors the sword of freedom. These are John F. Kennedy s thoughts and opinions upon the creation of Israel. In the time leading up to the creation of Israel, the Jews had endured much suffering through the terrible acts of the Holocaust. Jews have proven to rise from the despair and the suffering that they had to endure and they ultimately created something stupendous: their own country. There have been many obstacles in the way for the Jews to do this, the biggest being the Arab Palestinians. The Arab Palestinians objected to the Arab Jews forming a nation and if it were not for the help of the United States, Israel would have never been able to overrule the power of the Arab Palestinians and take over the land for themselves. With tremendous support from the United States, the creation of Israel exemplifies the joyous and magnificent accomplishment that not only Arab Jews accomplished, but all Jews. In the time leading up to the creation of Israel, the Jews were motivated to establish their own country in the territory of Palestine with the support of other countries around the world. Similarly to the inequality faced during the time of slavery, while Morrison was writing the her novel the issue of women s equality was present, and being fought for. Morrison, through Beloved, is able to show the world her views on inequality, and how it is still present in life today. Morrison is African American, she was born into a family of four children with a hard working father. He was primarily a welder, but also did other things to provide for the family. She credits her parents for founding her love of reading and music. She lived in an integrated neighborhood, but did not become aware of segregation until she was older. The first of these was the Battle at Lexington and Concord which ultimately slowed the British down and keeping them inside Boston by Minute Men. Then Fort Ticonderoga was captured by Benedict Arnold, and the Green Mountain Boys. These two events were the start of the tensions between Great Britain and the Colonies. Later this tension became physical and appearing on the battle field. The Colonies decided they needed to talk about it, so the Second Continental Congress took place, it was here that it was decided that the Colonies would try and separate from their Mother Country, so the Continental Army was formed the Congress came to a conclusion All voted in favor and Washington became the new Commander in Chief (Yost, 2011, p. 2). The Continental Army s first mission was to fortify Breed s Hill and defend it from the British coming from Boston, which Breed s Hill and Bunker Hill overlooked. The British wanted these positions in order to completely fortify Boston and drive all the Patriots out of the area. On June 16, 1775, a day before the actual battle was fought, the Colonial Army decided to move from Bunker Hill to Breed s Hill. Halfway through my perilous rafting journey, there was a moment when time stood still. I witnessed a natural phenomenon which displayed the beauty of nature at its finest. During that moment, I realized the insignificance of humanity, and why we should respect the overwhelming power of nature. The Nantahala is a whitewater river nestled in a valley with steep mountains flanking it on all sides. The forest it was situated in is the only temperate rain forest east of the Mississippi River. The rafting Industry has adopted this river as its premier destination. I was a 14 year old Boy Scout on a three day camping trip in the Nantahala Gorge. The weather was cloudy with periodic rain showers throughout the day and night. The temperature was at the mid 80 s but never got above the 90 s. I was in a bright yellow raft shared amongst five of my companions and a rafting Guide who went by the name Bones. Bones was a Caucasian man with dreads in his hair, tattoos of paddles shaped as a pirates cross on both of his arms, and was massively strong. We floated down the river like leaves down a stream; constantly fighting to stay upright and not be cast overboard by the restless aggression of the rapids. We were part of the way through a two hour journey down the Nantahala river. It had rained continuously throughout the trip, which meant we were soaked to the bone and fighting hypothermia. ... After handling those issues, only then will the company is ready to proceed with the next step. Euro Disney has learned many lessons, the foremost being that the countries reception of a company can positively or negatively affect the sales of said company. This is evidenced by the extremely negative reviews and harsh French criticism received by Euro Disney and the company not meeting expectations. • 36. Comparison Of Grendel And Frankenstein If a tree falls in a forest and no one is around to hear it, does it make a sound? Similarly, if a being is never provoked by man, will it become a monster? The latter is a question that is put into focus throughout Gardner s Grendel and Shelley s Frankenstein. The reader learns of Grendel, and of Frankenstein s creation, and must determine if they are truly monsters or merely a product of the world they live in. It is very easy to take one glance at the seemingly heinous crimes committed by Grendel and Frankenstein s creation, and based off of this, deem them to be monsters. However, it is the actions and words of man that transform both Grendel, and Frankenstein s creation into monsters. Both Grendel, and Frankenstein s creations go through personal transformations throughout their lives. They both begin life as innocent creatures with no intention to wreak havoc. Victor Frankenstein created his creature and then immediately ran away from it in fear. In reality, the creature just wanted to be loved and His jaws opened, and he muttered some inarticulate sounds, while a grin wrinkled his cheeks (Shelley 59). The creature was brought to life, and his first instinct was to emit a loving smile, but he was met with a scream of terror. Similarly, Grendel began his life as a righteous and pure creature. When Grendel was approached by drunken men wielding battle axes, he sank to my knees, crying, Friend! Friend! (Gardner 52). This proves that Grendel s initial instinct was to befriend the men, despite their hostile approach. While the men continued to hack at Grendel he merely held up a body for protection (Gardner 52) instead of fighting back. Grendel could have easily overpowered and killed the men if he wanted to but he chose to simply protect himself. Both creatures started off as innocent and pure until man got involved. Grendel could only take so much neglect and abuse before he transformed into the monster that readers recognize him to be. The actions of man were nothing short of monstrous, and they caused Grendel to turn into a monster. The men did not allow Grendel into the Mead Hall and they tried to kill him whenever they saw him. He wanted to make a chemistry on set that would show throughout the film. Ron wanted Apollo 13 to be realistic, as well as exciting and enjoyable. Within the characters, Ron wanted to capture their real personalities. This was done by the actors (Tom Hanks and Kathleen Quinlan) meeting the real life Jim and Marilyn Lovell. They each spent a day in their home to help capture the right characteristics and get a real idea how they felt. To make the film realistic and scientifically correct, actors and the film crew went to NASA in Florida and watched real Apollo 13 footage. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Fred Haise did say the phrase sure was a good ship when they landed in the Pacific Ocean, Ron used this to help portray Fred s feelings and character. The layout of mission control in the film is very similar to the real layout of mission control in Houston. Ron and the actors also met the real crew and used the astronaut s descriptions to help make the scenes more realistic. They spoke to the astronauts and spent time with them so they could learn, use and understand the terminology they had to use. Ron made the film accurate by researching facts, using real events and phrases, talking to NASA and astronauts. In addition to being an entertaining film, it will go into records as being a source of accurate data in the future Dave Scott (astronaut). The whole film is not completely accurate. Ron wanted to make the film dramatic and enjoyable, so he created the relationship between Jack and Fred. In real life, Jack and Fred were good friends; they had no problems with each other. How can vocational education, the educational program area that is specifically designed to prepare students for work, infuse international concepts into vocational education programs so that the youth of today are prepared for the global workplace? Ostheimer (1995) offers several suggestions: 1. Promote global awareness. 2. Internationalize the curriculum. 3. Adopt instructional practices that incorporate international dimensions. 4. Provide resources that address international/global dimensions of business. 5. Provide faculty development programs in international business. Global Awareness With the growth of multinational corporations and increased trade among nations, workers need to understand global conditions, development, and trends. Such issues as population growth, wealth distribution, environmental concerns, diseases, and political and social problems as well as cultural issues such as religious beliefs, customs, and family structure have implications for a country s business activity and practices. The study of such issues will enhance students abilities to engage in job related problem solving and decision making in ways that reflect knowledge of and respect for other cultures (McLaughlin 1996). • 44. Critical Analysis Of Extremely Loud And Incredibly Close Extremely Loud Incredibly Close is a 2005 book by Jonathan Safran Foer about a young boy dealing with the death of his father in the attacks on September 11, 2001. A critical analysis of the firebombing of Dresden and how it connects and grows the main themes of the novel will be stated forthwith. Oskar Schell was nine years old when his father was tragically taken from him by two jetliners flown by terrorists. This was especially unfortunate for him as his father seemed to be the only person that fully understood how Oskar s Aspergers affected him and could use that to keep Oskar in a state of growth. Thomas Schell, Oskar s father, would assign Oskar reconnaissance missions in which the young boy had to converse with strangers and do other tasks in order to grow his social skills and get him out of his shell. This was the point at which the class noticed that Oskar s father seemed to be such a great father to make up for the fact that his own father was absent for his entire life. This moves onto the analysis of Thomas Schell Sr. Thomas Schell Sr. lived in Dresden Germany as a child and was raised there. As a young boy, Thomas was full of hope, love, and emotion. Today, the city of Dresden represents a devastation incendiary bombing by the allies near the end of the second world war. Thomas lived through this bombing and lost the love of his life as well as his unborn child. The young man was hunkering down in a cellar attempting to shelter from the burning when he realized that Anna, his lover, was missing. Insisting on going back out despite his parent s wishes, Thomas went headstrong into the inferno. After the bombing, Dresden was encompassed by a firestorm blowing air heated to hundreds of degrees fahrenheit at hurricane speeds. This brings to mind the devastating dust cloud that touched down in NYC after the WTC attacks. This moves onto the next chronological analysis. There are quite a few striking similarities in Oskar s and Thomas situation and this helps to strengthen and connect Foer s novel. Oskar and Thomas both experienced extreme loss at a relatively young age. Thomas went through the death of his lover and unborn child, while Oskar experienced the death of the only man ... • 45. Omaha, Nebraska Home Omaha, Nebraska is a beautiful city, but my heart belongs to Los Angeles, California. There are some beautiful places here in Nebraska. We have beautiful lakes, hiking trails, the Iowa Nebraska bridge downtown, and we actually get all four seasons here. But, I feel like nothing will ever compare to California. First of all, in California, you could hike, surf, ski, and ride dune buggies all in the same day! There are so many trails and canyons to hike, so many beaches to sun bathe, and so much more variety when it comes to restaurants. I love that here in Nebraska we have plenty of amazing steaks, but I just miss the abundance of seafood in California, which we lack here. • 46. The Importance Of Right To Privacy Right to privacy is the right inclusive of, and goes beyond; property and body. It preserves the very sanctity of the person. Right to privacy is the right which secures a person s intellect, feelings and the spiritual nature. The Supreme Court in the case of Smt. Gian Kaur v. The State of Punjab held that the term life as discussed under Article 21 includes A life with human dignity . The scope of article 21 has been widened to a great deal by the brilliant judgements and now it isn t restricted to merely basic human needs . The most recent judgement by the Supreme Court 9 judge bench in Justice K S Puttaswamy (Retd.) and Anr. v. Union of India and Anr. Wherein the Supreme Court gives every person to live in a separate core and that core is inviolable i.e. a life without any interference from others. While we discuss the concept of collective social welfare and giving up of Rights, the extent to which rights can are curtailed cannot be looked upon. Even Justice Kishan Kaul in his separate Judgement has acknowledged as follows The right to be , though not extinguished for an individual, as the society evolved, became hedged in by the complexity of the norms. There has been a growing concern of the impact of technology which breaches this right to be , or privacy by whatever name we may call it. In this paper we primarily discuss the impact of the AADHAAR scheme over the Fundamental Right to Privacy. Even for discussing the legal aspect of AADHAAR it is almost ... • 48. Use of Force Continuum Essay A use of force continuum is a standard that affords law enforcement officials security officers (police, probation, or corrections) with guidelines as to how much use of force may be used against a repelling subject in a given situation. In certain ways it is similar to the military s escalation of force. The reason of these models is to clarify, both for officers and citizens, the complex subject of use of force by law officers. • 49. The Effects Of Obesity On Public Health Introduction Obesity is a traditionally first world health problem that is a growing concern throughout the world because of its negative effects on public health as well as the wider economy. According to both the WHO and the NHS, an individual s Body Mass Index (BMI), is an imperfect, yet effective tool for measuring obesity. The WHO definition has determined that a BMI of 25 29.9 is classified as being overweight, whereas a BMI of 30 34.9 is considered to be a sign of obesity (World Health Organization, 2014).The NHS goes on to add that it is useful to consider an individual s waist circumference as fit and muscular people can also have a relatively high BMI without an excess of fat, and classifies men and women with waist circumferences of 90cm and 80cm respectively as being at risk for obesity related health conditions (Nhs.uk, 2014). Obesity must be dealt with early and at the local level. In the London borough of Hammersmith and Fulham, 20.1% of year 6 children are classified as obese, high compared to the national average of 18.9%. Conversely, only 13.3% of adults in this borough are obese, much fewer than the national average of 23.0% (Public Health England, 2014). This high prevalence of childhood obesity exists despite the area doing well with traditional indicators such as physical activity and uptake of school lunches. An unpublished 2012 report explained that the greatest risk factors found were eating practices and familial obesity, although depravity, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
