Consider The Lobster By David Foster Wallace Analysis
American Novelist, essayist and short story author David Foster Wallace uses his essay Consider
the Lobster to tell the reader about his thought provoking visit to the Maine Lobster Festival.
Wallace wrote this essay to show his thought process dealing with the moral ambiguity of cooking
lobster, and the research he did to further understand the subject. He primarily uses an informational
tone with a heavy emphasis on pathos. He does a fairly good job remaining unbiased and showing
the counterarguments.
Wallace was sent to the Maine LobsterFestival by Gourmet Magazine, he was tasked simply to
write about his experience there. He took this as an opportunity and decided that the risk he was
taking in posing this question to the readers of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Following this point he points out that perhaps lobsters understand pain but they don t dislike it
and how pain is not distressing them (Wallace 63). He reinstates the fact that there is a clear
difference in pain as a purely neurological event from pain as actual suffering , the latter requiring
an emotional component (Wallace 36). Later on he states that this means that although lobster s
experience pain it is not a struggle based on discomfort but more of a preference. More akin to
you preferring to sit in a certain spot around the table. These are used to inform the reader of the
physical aspects of the lobster that affect the overall moral ambiguity of the subject.
In his closing statements he takes the time to throw some more thought provoking sentences in,
calling out a part of being a real gourmet (Wallace 64). Wallace wonders if future generations
might look back and see our current eating practices similarly to how we see tribal sacrifices
today. I see this as an extreme analogy but it has its use in this essay, it brings out the thought that
perhaps we should take a step back from our food and think about

Cherokee And Indian Culture
A large part of the formation of our country and Western society involved interaction with tribes of
Native Americans that inhabited North America well before Europeans settled it. It started with
Spanish conquistadors and explorers, then British colonies which would mold and change into the
revolutionized American Colonists. Along this succession, the Indian tribes on the east coast
experienced extreme prejudice, regime changes and war. Among these tribes are the Cherokee. The
Cherokee were at the forefront of Indian European relations. They remained strong in the southeast,
despite war and epidemic. The Cherokee underwent significant culture changes yet not always by
choice. War and disease tore apart the Cherokee as well other tribes but

Theme Of Omens In The Alchemist
The pungent smell of chestnut trees filled the air as his knees grew tremulous, insecurities
filling his mind of the future. For years he had walked the trails in attempt to once again reunite
with mankind after the devastating shipwreck that set him off course. From the corner of his
eye he saw a swallowtail butterfly, nonetheless of his wife s favorite, no doubt it was a sign. He
must keep moving. Alike to this harried individual and his determination to keep moving after
being reminded of his family, author Paulo Coelho illustrates similar traits in characters as well
as the same principles through his works of art. In the novel, The Alchemist, Coelho utilizes the
motif of omens in Santiago s journey to reveal themes, and teach readers valuable life lessons.
Omens prove to be a significant part of Coelho s masterpiece that guide Santiago on his
treacherous journey, and convey a theme of the novel which is one s only task in life is to
follow one s personal legend. For instance, when Santiago, is in Tarifa, Spain after traveling with
his sheep to meet his desired lover, he befriends the King of Salem who prepares him to follow
his personal legend, as the King of Salem states, In order to find the treasure, you will have to
follow the omens. God has prepared a path for everyone to follow. You just have to read the
omens that he left for you (Coelho 29). Santiago first learns about omens and the importance of
following his personal legend from the King of Salem and

How Youths Are Deemed As The Perpetrators Of Today s...
When the words youth and young people come up there are different connotations that come
along with it, some people may feel very positive towards the youth of today. However, some
people feel the complete opposite and have negative views altogether. In some cases, people
believe they have Ephebiphobia which is a fear of youngpeople, with 1.5 million Britons
considering to move houses last year and about 1.7 million people not going out after dark to avoid
youngsters (Lewis, 2016). Researchers are fearing that the public are alienating the youthand A rise
in social Paedophobia will simply make matters worse Nick Pierce the IPPR (Institute for Public
Policy Research). In this essay I will be discussing how youths are deemed as the perpetrators in
today s society and how this theory came about. Furthermore, discussing how young people are
also vulnerable to being victims as well, but are also under protected. Adding to that I will discuss
the UK s policing structure such as stop and search and taking young people into custody and
whether it has been successful for the past years in England and Wales or not.
So what defines youth or a young person? criminologists for years have attempted to find a
definition for youth. However, criminologist John Muncie has summed it up well: An ill defined
and variable period of the life span between infancy and adulthood. (Davies, Francis, and Greer,
2007). Although this is a definition people still don t quite understand what

Figurative Language In Mirrors By Justin Timberlake
The song Mirrors by Justin Timberlake has a lot of figurative language I will prove a couple cases
where that is true.
Mirrors by Justin Timberlake has a lot of simile. A simile is a figure of speech involving the
comparison of one thing with another thing of a different kind. It is used to make a description
more empathic or vivid. The quote it s like you re my mirror from the song is a simile you know for
a fact that it is a simile because a person cannot be a mirror. So Justin Timberlake is comparing a
mirror to a person. A mirror and a person are nothing alike so you can automatically see that it is a
direct comparison.
This song also has a lot of symbolism. Symbolism is an artistic and poetic movement or style using
symbolic ages and

Deduction In Sherlock Holmes
Sherlock Holmes is one of the most popular detectives in world history. His adventures with the
wonderful Dr. Watson have taken him to many places around england. But not only has he traveled
around the world, but he has traveled around in time too. Sherlock holmes is even more popular
that when his first stories by Sir Arthur Conan Doylewere released. Today, there are new spin of
books staring the detective, a multitude of movies based off his adventures, but nothing can
compare to the fact that he is the spotlight in his own Netflix series. Sherlock, produced by BBC,
is an incredibly smart show for everyone. Taking place in modern day england, this show s
countless plot twists and endless suspense keeps viewers on the edge of their seat the entire
episode. Seeing as it has been about 130 years since the first book was created, this modern day
evolution of Sherlock Holmesis a vastly different character from the sherlock from the original
novels. There are many differences between the relationship the two... Show more content on

Sherlock using the art of deduction can be commonly found within his stories. Weather he is
solving the murder mystery of the century, of figuring out what Dr. Watson had for breakfast, he
is constantly using it. Though deduction is a big part of his investigative process, Sherlock
doesn t only use his mind. The Sherlock from Sherlock has access to much more resources such
as DNA testing, super powerful microscopes, and access to all sorts of substances, than the
sherlock from the original novels, and only for one reason. Sherlock takes place in modern day
whereas the original novels were written and take place in the 1800s. For that reason, the sherlock

During the early 1960 s, Elijah Muhammad became known as the Honorable Elijah Muhammad
and was well on the way to establishing governmental order for black people. He always showed
tremendous love for the black community.
IN 1974, The Honorable Elijah Muhammad completed a 40 year period (1934 1974). The year

completion of this period climaxed a historic Saviors Day address, when he spoke on The Black

MINISTER LOUIS FARRAKHAN
As a boy, his mother would give him the CRISIS MAGAZINE (an NAACP publication) to read as
well as the black newspapers that were available. His mother, being a very dark and beautiful
woman, wanted him to have a healthy respect and love for black people.
Many times as a young child he would cry himself to sleep after hearing his mother and her
friends talk about the plight of black people. He remembers how he would lay on the floor,
looking up at the blue sky, asking God, why he would send help to other people and not to the
black people in America? One day when Minister Farrakhan was eleven years old, he visited his
uncle in New York City and he saw a picture of a black man on the wall of his uncle s apartment,
which was something very strange in the forties. He asked

Traditional Medicine And Modern Medicine
Since 7,000 BCE humans were discovered to have used primitive methods to practice medicine and
overtime it s become more sophisticated. Medicine, in general, is the science and practice of the
diagnosis, treatments, and prevention of disease. It encompasses a variety of evolved methods to
maintain and rejuvenate health. When aspects of traditional medicinesuch as acupuncture and herbal
remedies are combined with modern scientific medicine, complications regarding a person s mental
or physical condition may be resolved in an affordable, ethical, and effective manner.
Today in America the cost of goods in general is steadily rising while their earnings are disporinate
to this increase leaving many in debt. Statistics show that healthcare is the number one cause of
personal bankruptcy and is responsible for more collections than credit cards. According to Olga
Khazan of the Atlantic Roughly 40 percent of Americans owe collectors money for times they were
sick (2). Collectively, Americans are alarmingly paying more for treatments due to hidden costs in
the initial procedure. A solution for this would involve incorporating traditional medicine with
modern scientific medicine. Importantly, to clear up any misconception about what defines
modern, traditional , and alternative medicine a few lines will be dedicated. The World Health
Organization states that Traditional medicine comprises medical aspects of traditional knowledge
that developed over generations within various

Othello and Frankenstein Essay
From Man to Monster When monsters are thought of a very distinct picture comes to mind. An
ugly creature that is out for blood, born into a life where causing misery is his driving force. Do
these features really define what a monster is; works of literature like Mary Shelley s Frankenstein
and Shakespeare s Othellotell quite a different story. Monsters are not born but made just as
people are not born evil but can sometimes end up there. Othello and the Monster start of as good
men looking to be part of society but were pushed out because of what others perceived them to be.
This caused them to mentally and physically isolate themselves from everyone allowing hatred to

Since Othello is being manipulated he finds it hard to be around any one causing him to separate
himself from his loved ones and colleagues. When asking to speak with Desdemona to question
her on her infidelity he tells her, Get you to bed on th instant. I will be returned/ forth with.
Dismiss your attendant there. Look t be/ done. (Shakespeare IV, iii, 7 9). He is uncomfortable
talking to her in the presence of Emilia, almost like an outsider being involved would confuse him
further. His separation from all other characters other than Iago keeps him from knowing the truth.
This causes his mind to run wild and come up with reasons that justify him in his monstrous actions
that have become more frequent. However, in comparison the Monsters physical isolation causes
him to mentally isolate himself. After being abandon by Frankenstein the Monster is forced to live
on his own in the woods. Realizing that human kind will never truly accept him he asks Victor to
create him a mate stating, I am alone and miserable man will not associate with me (Shelley, 118).
When Victor ultimately denies the Monster of companionship he becomes enraged again
continuing to lose his faith in mankind. The Monsters physical segregation fuels his mental
isolation whole Othello s mental isolation fuels his physical segregation. Othello and the Monster
are also mentally isolated in very different ways. Othello s mental isolation is driven by Iago s
manipulation.

Political Party System
The American political party system has changed at least five times since the founding of The
United States of America, and these changes started before the election of our first president,
George Washington. Even though the Founding Fathers thought about political parties, to them it
was pointless due to the fact that in a presidential election, the winner would be become the
president and the runner up would become the vice president (Randall, 2012). In fact, the
Constitution of the United Statesof America does not specifically say anything about political
parties. In addition, George Washington, as outlined in his farewell address, spoke about how he
hoped that political parties would not be formed due to fear of conflict and stagnation... Show more

The subject matter of presidential campaigns and swings in the electorate communicates the
character of America s two party system. Political life in the United States continues to be ruled
by wide ranging ideological consensus, the electorate continues to drift near the center of the
political range, and the parties, in order to continue to be competitive, generally drift towards the
center to entice voters. President Clinton won the presidency in 1992 by promising both parties
could practice fiscal responsibility. President George W. Bush won the presidency in 2000 asking
for compassionate conservatism, which would be a call to remember that Democrats did not have
exclusive control on social concerns. And with the astonishingly close races in 2000 and 2004
suggests that this fusion of ideological consensus is where Americans want their candidates to exist

example of dystopian future and may remind us of Orwell s 1984 but, advocates say that the

Tomorrow, When The War
Tomorrow, When the War Began displays to us the kinds of changes people go through when
they are confronted with an improbable situation, and why those changes arise. It shows us how
one situation can affect each person differently. Homer is changed by the war, we first
understood him to be this immature and irresponsible prankster with no regard to the
consequences of his actions. Homer likes stirring trouble and doesn t care about what others say
or think of him, homers attitude changes, he swiftly realizers that he can no longer mess around
and cause trouble like he did before the war. Homer must take some responsibility and be
accountable for his actions. Homer was becoming more surprising with every passing hour. It
was getting hard to remember that this fast thinking guy, who d just spent fifteen minutes
getting us laughing and talking and feeling good again, wasn t even trusted to hand out the
books at school. Through unlikely circumstances Homer has had to become a mature and
responsible leader for the group. Another person in the group that changes is Fiona also known as
Fi. Fi is from a wealthy family, she is noted as the perfect girl . Fi seems quite lazy compared to the
others disappearing whenever chores need to be done she looked like she had never done any hard
work in her life ; this is due to her family s wealth. In the beginning Fi is represented as delicate and

So, this case study is about Harley Davidson, a brand of motorcycles and more precisely about its
development since his foundation in 1903 by 21 year old William S. Harley and 20 year old
Arthur Davidson.
So, in 2003, it was the celebration of the 100th birthday of the Harley Davidson. And, in order to
commemorate it, fans of this famous brand rode until Milwaukee to see the parade of 10 000
Harley Davidson motorcycles. Through this celebration, we can see how recognized this brand is
for the owners, or should I say fans. Indeed, this case also shows how the strategy and the

This case study shows too that Harley s customers are not the metal bikers customers who used
to be in the past. Indeed, Harley Davidson attracts now more profession such as lawyers or
doctors about 45 years with a medium income level. And, according to customers, buying a
Harley Davidson, it is like a dream and the possibility to be a part of the myth. The dream is about
to escape the bored life riding a Harley Davidson which is relaxing.
But, the brand stretching strategy of Harley Davidson didn t have the expected effects. Indeed,
products such as wine and cosmetics (with a partnership with L OrГ©al) have not a high volume
of sales. However, products such as leisurewear and fashion ranges feel better.
So, the main issue of this case study is to know why Harley Davidson has chosen different
strategies according to markets, understand the idea of the brand stretching strategy of Harley
Davidson, and also to give some recommendations and ideas for the marketing strategy of Harley
Davidson.
II. Strategy of Harley Davidson

Ancient Christian Worship By Andrew B. Mcgowan
Zoryana Nichipor Christianity Western Culture Box #390 Word Count: Book Review of
Ancient Christian Worship: Early Christian Practices in Social, Historical, and Theological
Perspective Throughout this book, Andrew B. McGowan thoroughly informs us on each
cultural background and formation of the different types of acts of worship throughout the early
Christian church. We see through this information that the way the Church worships has
evolved into something completely different from what it once was. In one form or another we
are forced to appreciate how the early Christians worshipped and, I would even assert, are
challenged to bring these traditions into our own mentality of worship. If we are to look to the
New Testament and how worship is referred to, it is a great deal about ethos or a Christian way
of life, but relatively little about the specifics of distinctive liturgical practice or performance. In
chapter one of McGowan s book, we see a compare and contrast given with how the early church
worshiped more communally as opposed to how we worship today; which is more aesthetic and
internal. McGowan reiterates numerously that worship in the New Testament is a subject of
service, reverence and ethics. They were not merely one sacramental part of a community or
worship life but the central act around or within which others reading and preaching, prayer and
prophecy were arranged. The New Testament was in the setting of a very communal culture. And

Disadvantages Of Trauma
Introduction Many people experience trauma in various aspects of life. These aspects may be
behavioral, social, mental and physical. The department of health and human service in the
United States claims that 55 95% of women report trauma cases at some point of their life. Most
abuses occur, and traumatizing situations occur in childhood and may be extended to adulthood.
The trauma may come as a result of sexual abuse, family dysfunctions and parental negligence
making children to develop stress and a feeling of loneliness. More women compared to men go
through traumatic experiences at younger ages and a few cases recorded among the adults.
According to the research done by Adverse Childhood Experience (ACE), they associated trauma
with emotional problems, adult diseases, social problems, health and some disability cases
(Classen Clark, 2017). Traumatized children are often withdrawn and stressed. They are not
happy and are not socially active. They prefer to stay alone trying to wonder how they can solve
their problems. They wonder whether the way they have to undergo the problems, they undergo
unlike some of their friends who lead a normal happy life. They find it hard to accept some of their
life situations and wish their lives were same as that of their friends. The trauma amongst children
is very common, and they require encouragements so that they can cope with life. Trauma informed

Similarities Between Sappho And Catullus
Colleen Thomassians
Shinn
Period 6
10/8/14
Compare and Contrast: Sappho and Catullus There are different forms of love, ranging from the
lust of one another to a familial fondness. Two poets, Sappho and Catullus, each represent a
different type of love in their respective poems. Sappho, a female poet born in the early sixth
century B.C. on the Greek island of Lesbos, was said to be the tenth Muse and a supreme lyric
poet of her time. Her life remains mostly a mystery, but through her poems it has been found out
that she had a husband, and a daughter named Cleis. Catullus, a Roman poet that lived from
roughly 84 to 54 B.C., found inspiration in and was influenced by Sappho, opting to write about
love rather than politics like the rest of the poets of his time. He also popularized the style of
love elegy in poems. Sappho and Catullus, as seen in Sleep, Darling and If Ever Anyone
Anywhere respectively, use diction, the speaker, figurative language, and imagery in similar and
different ways to express varying versions of love. One similarity between Sappho and Catullus
is their use of neutral to formal diction. Both use phrases that, although seem simple and of
neutral diction, are chosen to express their own form of love. However, where Sappho uses a
word choice to show a fondness of her daughter and her innocence, Catullus transforms words
from the same diction level to show his adoration and longing towards his lover. I have a small

Even though they both were missing some key history elements. The New World was directed by

Sociological Explanations For The Divorce Phenomenon
A major change that has occurred in the Western family is an increased incidence in divorce.
Whereas in the past, divorce was a relatively rare occurrence, in recent times it has become quite
commonplace. This change is borne out clearly in census figures. For example thirty years ago in
Australia, only one marriagein ten ended in divorce; nowadays the figure is more than one in three
(Australian Bureau of Statistics, 1996: p.45). A consequence of this change has been a substantial
increase in the number of single parent families and the attendant problems that this brings
(Kilmartin, 1997).
An important issue for sociologists, and indeed for all of society, is why these changes in marital
patterns have occurred. In this essay I will seek to critically examine a number of sociological
explanations for the divorce phenomenon and also consider the social policy implications that each
explanation carries with it. It will be argued that the best explanations are to be found within a
broad socio economic framework.
One type of explanation for rising divorce has focused on changes in laws relating to marriage.
For example, Bilton, Bonnett and Jones (1987) argue that increased rates of divorce do not
necessarily indicate that families are now more unstable. It is possible, they claim, that there has
always been a degree of marital instability. They suggest that changes in the law have been
significant, because they have provided unhappily married couples with access to a

Theme Of Lysistrata
Reading the story about Lysistrata made me think hard about what is the best title to replace the
original. The new title that best reflects its theme, Desire of Women Between the War. Lysistrata,
tells a story of women that are tired seeing their men going to war and are not pleasuring their
ladies. These women from the Athens and Sparta decided to have a meeting to discuss how to
punish the men who are going to the Peloponnesian War. Aristophanes explains to the women that
war and territorial aggression are substitutes for sex and vice versa (Aristophanes 783). I thought
the story was about sex because of so many back and forth sexual statements that were said in the
story, but the women weren t punishing the men for the touch of their husband.... Show more

Some of the women didn t desire to end the war, even though they knew it from the beginning or
not. In this story Lysistrata and the other women in the room made a decision that the men didn t
agree with, these women wanted to achieve their goal by withholding sex, even though it was
radical but it works, it got the job done by ending the war and the men think about what they most
desire when they come home to their wife with pleasure all night. Renaming the story Desire of
Women Between the War gives the audience a little idea of what the story captures, what Lysistrata
and the women truly desire, which is the attention of their husbands, peace, equality, and family all
together in one piece. Unlike the original topic, Lysistrata, it means Dissolver of Armies

story of Carina, the ship. http://clapway.com/2015/07/07/stargazing 101 carina the ship/) It s
often that we hear about Zeus and his extra marital affairs, but very rare that we hear of Hera
having any. In the story of Aries, Ixion, King of Lapiths, attempted to woo Hera. Zeus learned of
Ixion s intent to make Hera his lover and declared that his plan would not come to fruition. Zeus

Ixion, of course, thought he had succeeded in seducing Hera but quickly found out that he had
actually impregnated Nephele. Ixion was punished for attempting to steal Zeus s wife, and
Nephele gave birth to the first centaur. She later had two more children with Athamas, another
king, who tried to have the children killed. She came to Hera for help in saving them, so Hera
sent a golden ram to aid the children in their escape. Unfortunately, one of the children fell off
the ram s back and died, however, the other survived and made it to safety. Once on the banks of
Colchis, the surviving child sacrificed the ram to Poseidon. Poseidon them instructed him to
present the ram s golden fleece to the king of Aeete, who hung up the fleece in a secret garden
where it was protected by a dragon. It was at this same time, you might recall from Carina the
Ship, that Diomedes s land had overthrown him as heir to his father s throne. Pelias, the man who
took Diomede s throne in his absence, is the cousin of the boy who sacrificed the ram that saved
him to the god of the sea. Hera

Argumentative Essay On Confederate Statues
Argumentative essay confederate
Imagine walking through a town plaza and suddenly spotting a bust depicting Adolf Hitler, or a
statue of a Nazi Swastika. A passerby may stare in horror upon its recognition, and wonder why a
symbol of such hatred and violence is displayed prominently in a town. These statues would incite
an uproar and immediate demands to remove such offensive monuments. Thankfully, such a
situation would never arise in modern America; however, a similar plight is unfolding across the
country concerning the removal of Confederate statues. Confederate statues should not be displayed
in public areas because they are reminders of a time when racial violence went unpunished, they are
honoring people who wanted to keep other ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
3Another issue with the statues are the actual subjects monumentalized. Notable people that are
commemorated with having models of themselves publicly displayed are usually figures that the
people of America are proud of, like Abraham Lincoln or Harriet Tubman. Confederate statues,
however, are the exception; for they are monuments that represent the institutionalization of racism.
Our public spaces should not glorify historical policies of hatred and racism, argues Kevin
Kamenetz, executive and president of the Maryland Association of Counties (Eversley 2017). That
single phrase perfectly sums up what people across the country are attempting to convey, and
expresses the main issue that many have with these statues. No person who fought for the right to
keep humans as property is deserving of modern honor.
4For people who oppose the removal of Confederate statues, history is said to be their biggest
concern. Many believe that Ultimately, removal of the monuments will, quite literally, erase an
unsavory but important part of our nation s history (Brophy 2015). They fear that by removing
these symbols, America would be disregarding a huge part of its past. Yet, history itself would not
be destroyed, as the impact of the Civil War lives on; only the tokens of oppression would be
removed.
5Speaking of oppression, the statues are reminders to the descendants of slaves of what their
ancestors endured in the machinations of slavery on a day

The Social Responsibility Of University Of Manchester
University of Manchester not only charges its social responsibilities for the people in school, but
also does them for the people around the world. So the question about how University of
Manchester can perfectly perform its social responsibility is really considerable. The topic of my
essay will be that management contributes to the Universityof Manchester s vision for social
responsibilitythrough achieving a delicate balance in allocating resources. I will mainly introduce
the idea about how management allocate human resource and financial resource and how it relates
to the social responsibility of University of Manchester.
University of Manchester, as a huge educational organization, is made up by thousands of staffs.
Undoubtably, these staffs are the one to perform the social responsibility. This is where to show
management on human resources is extremely vital.
Management should pre realize the different functions of the departments of University and than
managing employees. In this case , human resources manager will be familiar with and obey the
disciplines of managing. First of all, they recruit and employ the staff through the most just and
ethic progress. The University of Manchester has aimed to be fair on employing so that they
provide the jobs to types of people from different countries with different race and religions and
also do give the same chance to the disable people as they have ability to undertake the job. Another

The Struggle Of Women In The 1920 s
After reading both of the short articles, what really stuck out to me is how in the face of
adversity and pressure from people to simply stay put in typical women roles, that women
continued to break the glass ceiling. With the back lash of feminism and what many fought for
in the sixties and seventies it would be very easy to see that women of the eighties were stepping
away from that role. Many would say that women of that era failed their mother s generation, but
what I see is that these women had to make their own way, all be it different from their mothers,
but in their own right were pioneering women s rights in the second wave of the movement.
Finally allowing the term date rape to be considered as real rape, is such a huge step forward...

We tend to take for granted many of the rights we have come to know of, and think of them being
rights for a long time, finding out that these rights only came out in the eighties and nineties
saddened me. To think of a time that women and men did not have rights to tell someone they
knew or had a relationship with no and for it to mean no, seems so common sense now. It because
of work of women like Brownmiller and Estrich that many no longer have to fear retribution of
claims of Date rape. In her article Neumann speaks about the backlash to women s rights and how
many viewed feminism as anti male or anti family. Although, I do not consider myself to be a
feminist I have never thought that those who are as either of anti male or anti family, I think
that sometimes things that we fear we tend to label as to have a point of hatred for and maybe
that s where those titles come from. Being able to see the victim family rape laws and for men to
be educated that women do not owe them sex or are meant to be submissive are huge leaps
toward equality. Obviously there is still work to be done and that will continue to be needed done
until all people are viewed and treated equally, and while the views on feminism were pushed down
I think the ultimate goals of the feminist movement started in the seventies about rape and rape
education are huge

Pixar deliver stories by taking a simple, ordinary imagination, and gradually build up the stories
from a tiny spec, eventually creating an emotional connection with the audience. The main conflict
is being reminded regularly throughout the movie, and the plot never strays far from it. For
example, in Ratatouille the story revolves around Remy s dream to become a chef with the
background setting limited to confined spaces of the restaurant. This could be to ensure the story
does not stray far. With DreamWorks movies, however, the stories are told in a fast pace, taking the
audiences on a thrilling journey through a series of continuous adventures throughout the movie.
Jokes are told consistently, sometimes even including certain elements that could be seen as
unnecessary, but nevertheless entertaining, such as characters bursting into musical numbers. In
addition, unlike Pixar, DreamWorks strays far from realistic things. Their themes are diverse as it
often derives from legend, myths, fairytale, or bizarre imagination. As a result, audiences are
provided with action packed, entertaining movies, often bringing the crowd into a series of laughter.
However, though entertaining, the lack of emotion conveyed resulted in the movies to be less
memorable in comparison to Pixar

Pleasantville and Back to the Future
Everything everywhere is constantly changing. People change, weather changes, plans change,
everything changes; you can t escape change. Two movies that really illustrate the concept of
change are Pleasantville and Back to the Future. In both of these movies, the main characters
Marty, David, and Jennifer are sent back into the times of the 1950s and are faced with a world
completely different from their own. In Pleasantville, David and Jennifer get stuck in David s
favourite television show Pleasantville as the characters Bud and Mary Sue. Jennifer seems to want
to stir things up, creating change throughout Pleasantville, while David is doing all he can to stop
Jennifer from destroying their perfect world. On the other hand, in Back to the Future, Marty gets
sent back in timeto when his parents were his age. Unfortunately, he runs into his parents, causing
his mother to fall for him, supposedly interfering with Marty s future. All of these main characters
have to deal with a lot of change the key concept these movies have in common. While
Pleasantville and Back to the Future both focus on the concept of time and change, both movies
illustrate change from different perspectives. These movies also have other similar concepts, such
as racism and the idea of the ideal family; however, they both differ by discussing other social
issues as well. Before traveling back in time to the 1950s, the characters in both of the movies acted
very similarly. In both Pleasantville

In addition to the appearance of the advertisements, Starbucks has seasonal or monthly
promotions to grasp more people s attention. Starbucks relies heavily on the technique of
association, specifically warm and fuzzy, to sell their seasonal drinks. The creation of holiday
drinks shows that Starbucks is family oriented because Starbucks cares about the importance of
American holidays and family gatherings. The holiday drinks are only served during a precise
period of time. Besides the holiday drinks, Starbucks uses holiday decorations like the red
Christmas cups for the customers to get in the holiday spirit as a way to sell more beverages. Due
to the appeal of emotions, the seasonal drinks become popular and are sold more. Furthermore, the
monthly deals and the seasonal drinks are considered as a form of bribery that helps the company
expand, since it motivates others to buy the products. For instance, there is an application on
phones that helps customers gain rewards and receive discounts or free drinks when reaching a
certain amount of points.
A unique feature about Starbucks is that the employees are considered baristas. This is the first time

Theme Of Weather In The Great Gatsby
Many great books use many different natural occurrences or things to symbolize themes, moods, a
meaning of the book, etc. The Great Gatsby is no exception, Fitzgerald uses many different
methods to blend the story into what it is, but one thing that he uses that might slip through the
reader s mind is weather. Fitzgerald uses weather throughout the book to set/show the mood of
the chapter/scene. Right from the start, Fitzgerald uses weather to set the tone for Nick. And so
with the sunshine and the great bursts of leaves growing on the trees, just as things grow in fast
movies, I had that familiar conviction that life was beginning over again with the summer
(Fitzgerald 4). Nick had just moved to the East, looking to start a new life. It represents his high
hopes that he has for his life ahead. He states earlier that he was restless after the war, so he is
very eager to achieve these goals he has in mind. It also represents the coming changes in his life.
Summer starts to come around right as he goes to Daisy s house, something that will affect his life
for years to come. It is no accident that summer comes right as his life is about to change.
Fitzgerald also uses a lot of weather to set the emotional tone when Gatsby reunites with Daisy. He
uses the rainin chapter five to represent the nervousness of Gatsby.
With his hands still in his coat pockets he stalked by me into the hall, turned sharply as if he were
on a wire, and disappeared into the living room. It wasn t a bit funny. Aware of the loud beating of
my own heart I pulled the door to against the increasing rain (86).
A little earlier in the chapter, Gatsby also says that the rain is supposed to stop at four. Almost as
if he this trying to tell himself that he will stop being nervous once Daisy shows up, but contrary
to that, the rain intensifies, and so does Gatsby s signs of being nervous. But later in the chapter,
Nick says that the sun starts to shine again, and he mentions, While the rain continued it had
seemed like the murmur of their voices, rising and swelling a little now and then with gusts of
emotion (88 89). In this part, Fitzgerald blatantly uses the rain to describe that Gatsby was nervous.
It is basically saying that

Women In Streetcar Named Desire
During the early mid 20th century, women remained in a lower standing than men. Due to the
unequal roles this led to unequal treatment and domestic abuse since men have more power and
influence over women. Men have the dominant role in society since women were seen as the
ones to take care of the children and house while men worked. Men even had more say in a
marriage then women and it was easy for men to divorce than women. In cases where domestic
abuse happens it was seen as a man exerting dominance over a womanand when alcohol is
involved then it made the abuse worse. This is shown in Streetcar named desire which the men do
what they want by often going to bars to drink alcohol or play poker and retaliate if women tried to

There is a sentence where in the scene three of the play Stella says I want to go away, I want to
go away! (Williams, 58) What Stella says could perceive the meaning as how she wants to get
away, but she can t even though she is hit by Stanley. Stella is restricted by what she can do
because she has to rely on Stanley who has a job. Women reliance on men was the same in early
mid 20th century since women were supposed to stay at home while the men worked. William
touches on these topics of gender inequality and domestic abuse in the play using subtle or
obvious ways in dialogue or described scenes of action. The topic of domestic abuse is shown
again in scene five where Steve and Eunice are having a fight. It starts with Eunice saying I
heard about you and that blonde...I seen you chasing her round the balcony... you hit me! I m
going to call the police! (Williams, 75) then Stanley says to Stella and Blanche in response to
Stella s question of Eunice calling the police Naw. She s getting a drink (Williams, 75). Stanley s
reply to Stella s question proves how women can t do much against men from committing domestic
abuse and they would have to find a way to cope with the abuse. The issues in the fifties are left

Eating Meat: Biological Necessity, or Choice? The first article I chose to use for my research paper,
is from the scientific journal American Scientist, called Meat Eating Among the Earliest Humans,
written by Briana Pobiner who is a paleoanthropologist at the Smithsonian s National Museum of
Natural History. In this article, Pobiner discusses the biological evolution of humans, how human
meat consumption evolved over time to facilitate the growth of human brain size to become the
intelligent and sentient beings we are today, and whether or not we still need to eat meat as our
ancestors did. Pobiner references many other scientists observations and discoveries. For example,

Criminal behaviour has been so constant in movies that are the following genre of a greater
understanding of crime in film: thriller, action, suspense, mystery, detective, prison, film noir and
the most modern heist. The crime genre started with one main sub genre, and that was the
gangsta genre. The crime genre appeals to a mainstream and diverse audiences because of all
the elements of the film. Firstly, the action elements of the films which include shoot outs and
car chases appeal to the mainstream audience. The action sequence are very important to the

Why I Want to Study Medicine
The sun exploded into a million shades of orange. I sat, friends at each side, atop a monstrous pile
of boulders. I looked over the vastness of Joshua Tree National Park, and saw a glimpse of myself.
Love filled my soul; love of people, love of family. The backcountry has always helped me find
this love; it has been my personal northstar, shepherding me toward research and medicine. I started
backpacking at 13, trekking across the winter harsh lands of Idaho and Montana. It was difficult,
but despite this, a feeling welled within me that pushed me forward. This feeling warmed my
numb fingers and soothed the ache in my thighs. It drew me close to my friends, fostering the
teamwork required. Each new trip allowed me moments of introspection. The teamwork led to
trust, trust led to caring, caring led to empathy; eventually I understood the satisfaction of helping
others. This is how the backcountry shaped me. Over the next year many choices I made would
be based on these lessons. When I was in high school, I had no inkling of where I was going, but I
tested the waters. I volunteered at the Mrs. Tewillegar Wildlife Foundation and did a rotation
observing anesthesiologists in San Francisco. I was a green advocate and spent much of my time
reading about and debating the travesties visited upon the environment.
In my young explorations I found that medicine and environmental politics peaked my interest. In
my first semester at Pitzer College, I started to study

Symbolism In William Faulkner s As I Lay Dying
There are many symbols in As I Lay Dying. William Faulkner is known for symbols in his novels.
The character s names in this novel even have a meaning. Although they are hard to decipher, once
the symbol is revealed, it makes the novel much more interesting. Throughout the novel, we see that
almost every person s name in the Bundren family has a meaning, and every person has a symbol.
The last name has a meaning itself. Bundren sounds like burden, and that is exactly what the
family is to almost everyone. Starting with Anse, Faulkner uses his name to define the word
anserous . Anserous means resembling a goose; silly; simple. In Addie s chapter, she describes
him as a tall bird hunched in the cold weather (pg. 170). This explains Anse s goose like stature. His
symbol throughout the novelis self greed. Anse states after Addie s death, But now I can get them
teeth (pg. 111). This just proves how selfish he is and does not care about his wife s passing,
only about his new teeth. Addie s name is very simple and does not have a meaning, but her
symbol is deep. She is always looking out of the window at her coffin being built while she is
lying in her bed. I believe Faulkner was showing how badly Addie wants to go to the other side.
Faulkner uses powerful imagery, It was nigh toward daybreak when we drove the last nail and
toted it into the house, where she was laying on the bed with the window open and the rain
blowing on her again (pg. 73). This shows how sad Addie is

Ready? kishwana asked Akeelah who nodded. T
They high fived, hugged and with heads up high and shoulders back, walked towards the gates.
Soon it dawned on them, they had to blend in if they wanted to cross and find their parents.
They had to look like mug monsters!
Dashing to a nearby smelly swamp, they colored their skins with mug and mud, stuck twigs and
seaweed all over their bodies and faces and used some purple moss to make it look as if they had fur.
Once they looked like mug monsters, more or less, they made their way to the gates, acting like a
pair of regular mug monsters.
The rest of the children trickled in after them and the guards were none the wiser!
Once inside the city, they noticed how dark and gloomy everything was.
There were many humans walking by, but no one paid them any

Leadership Behavior, Team Development And Group Cohesion...
The purpose of this paper is to discuss relevant research regarding a number of concepts related to
group cohesion including: leadership behavior, team development and group cohesion as a
mediator. Coaching elements identified as being positively related to group cohesion include: the
quality of training and instruction, social support, positive feedback and leadershipstyle (Yarmey,
2013). In particular, a democratic leadership style has been found to promote the development of
team cohesion (Crocker, 2016). Empirical evidence suggests that group s progress through a set of
well defined stages before becoming a cohesive team. According to Tuckman s model of team

The purpose of this paper is to discuss relevant research regarding a number of concepts related to
group cohesion including: leadership behavior, team development and group cohesion as a mediator.
Leadership Factors
Across many sports, research has provided empirical support for the connection between coaching
elements and team cohesion (Crocker, 2016). Specific coaching elements identified as being
positively related to group cohesion include: the quality of training and instruction, social support,
positive feedback and leadership style (Yarmey, 2013). In the YouTube clip, Al Pacino s Any Given
Sunday Speech , the coach appears to demonstrate effective leadership skills promoting the team s
cohesion. In his motivational speech, a degree of social support is provided through the fostering of
a positive atmosphere. In addition, he provides instructions for the team s success by emphasizing
that the group must work as a team in order to be successful in their upcoming game. Unfortunately,
this clip offers little insight into the coach s decision styles (an important leadership factor related
to group cohesion). Two opposing coaching leadership styles have been found to influence team
cohesion: the autocratic style and the democratic style. While the autocratic style involves
independent decision making by the coach, the democratic style stresses joint decision making and

Justice In Aeschylus s Oresteia
Aeschylus s Oresteia illustrates justice as being subjective and evolves throughout the plays to
become increasingly complex. In Agamemnon, justice is synonymous with revenge and seen as
simply being part of fate. The Chorus highlights this when they say, Fate is grinding sharp the
sword of Justice and go on to relate that as long as Zeus exists this is simply a fact of life (1565).
The idea of revenge as justice is also seen in the Chorus description of the plunderer plundered and
Each charge meets counter charge (1588 1594). The death of Agamemnoncomes as revenge, the
revenge of the death of Iphigenia and the revenge from the sins of the house of Atreus on Aegisthus
family.
The theme of revenge as justice carries on into The Eumenides

Chuck Jones
Chuck Jones was and still is a pioneer of animation, contributing to over 300 films animated films.
He redfeined character development and storytelling. There are three methods that Chuck
employed to his animations. Firstly, the jokes. Many people remember The Looney Tunes not
only for the characters, but the jokes. Chuck Jones installed a two part structure to every episode.
The first part leads you to make an assumption and the second part proves it wrong. However, the
amount of work put into every single character is what truly set the films apart, leading us to the
second method creating relatable characters. Chuck Jones wanted to make the characters relatable
to audiences he wasn t just looking for jokes, he wanted these characters... Show more content on

It helps to have the dialogue, but the dialogue is not the thing that makes it work. The story
should tell itself by the way it moves. Now that we know what the character wants and how they
move to get it, we can then add in the personality of the character to the assumption. On the
flipside, there is danger to this method and you can easily get trapped in a formula. In order to
counteract this, Chuck Jones disciplined himself. Discipline is our third method because
animating always you to do whatever you want, so you have to think about what you won t do.
For example, Bugs bunny never instigated a fight, he only retaliates when others start it. Chuck
Jones did this because if he did not, Bugs Bunny would appear as a bully. Chuck Jones also
applied discipline to how character expressed themselves. In earlier years, they tended to go
through a slew of expressions in a couple of seconds, but over time Chuck Jones stuck to using the
smallest possible gestures and that made the jokes funnier. But the most important lesson that
Chuck Jones has taught us, is to be inspired by everyday life because it is no good to draw if you

. The underlying theme of the film, however, is that it is the responsibility of parents and
guardians to protect their children from what they deem inappropriate, and that censorship of
anything (particularly in movies and TV) is simply a parental tool for escaping blame. In the
climax of the film the parents sing a song whose words are meant to blame Canada before anyone
blames the parents for their poor parenting skills. It is also seen that a couple abandons their baby
in the enthusiasm to join the other parents in singing.
Much of the film s satire and many of the songs depict how people refuse to accept responsibility
and the tendency to look for someone else to blame .It should be noted in the film movies,
government, society, foreigners, and Satan are all blamed leading Kyle to remark: whenever I get
in trouble, you go off and blame everybody else. But I m the one to blame. Deal with me.
South Park: Bigger, Longer Uncut has been deemed as one of the most profanity filled movies ever
produced. The movie s excessive use of profanity also gained it a place in the Guinness Book of

This journal article is explaining about the different views in the critiques in the International
Human Rights. The writer of this article attempts to explain to the readers to differentiate the
understanding of the point of views of two sides, cultural relativist and feminist. Cultural relativist
and feminist are actually quite similar but in the way of understanding they have a few differences.
The critiques of both cultural relativist and feminist can be said that they are the same however a
misunderstanding will may be occurred that can change the perspectives. The writer in the
beginning has explained the international human rights critique basic theory. On the side of cultural
relativist, they argue that the universal human rights that is gotten by virtue of being human
(Donnelly in Reitman 1997, p. 100) is not sensitive to the cultural diversity. They reject the basic
theory and they rather believe that the diverse cultures are the source of human rights. On the other
hand, on the side of feminist, they rather believe that in the real life the one who holds the human

The Russian Revolution began in 1917, with two significant revolts occurring that year. By 1924
Russia became the United Soviet Socialist Republic, and new leader Joseph Stalin leads with
harsh dictatorship. His goals for industrializations included unrealistic quotas for workers, peasants
were treated poorly and he created a secret police which terrorized citizens. George Orwell, angry
that people in Europe admired Soviet Russia, wrote Animal Farm as a critical novel about Joseph
Stalin. Many may argue that his novel is an inaccurate portrayal as Vladimir Leninis omitted,

Old Major was an aged boar who felt the need for change in manor farm. He introduces the
theories and ideas on which the rebellion is based and it is his intention to simplify it suitably so
that the animals can understand. He encourages a rebellion with his speech, in which he professes,
All animals are equal (Orwell 4). Old Major spoke of Animalism, where he expounds on equality,
as no animal is better than the other. Everyone is equal to each other, one of the main aspects of
communism. This corresponds to Marx s vision of communism where the proletariat is equal
with the bourgeoisie as he believes, class distinctions have disappeared (Marx 1848). Both focus
on a classless society, where everyone is equal. As Marx stood for the rights of the people, so
Old Major intended to institute a philosophy that would free the animals from human tyranny,
creating an equal and fair system with no class structure. Old Major dies before he can see his
dreams become reality, similar as Karl Marx died before his theories could change the face of
history. Orwell shows how there are positive intentions behind the ideas that spark revolutions

Hermes Accomplishments
Hermes was a god of fertility in Greek Mythology. He was especially concerned with the sheep
and goats raised by his principal worshippers, the people in Arcadia, Southern Greece. In ancient
poetry, Hermes functioned as a messenger of the gods. Hermes was also a guide for souls to the
underworld and for travelers. Also, he was a protector of boundaries; a helper of heralds,
speakers, traders, and thieves; and a bringer of good or unexpected luck. The Romans area
rumored to have invented Mercury as an equivalent to Hermes. He was also closely connected
with bringing dreams to mortals. Hermes is usually depicted with a broad brimmed hat or a

Broadband over Power Lines (BPL) are systems designed for data communication over existing
power lines. BPL have the ability to deliver broadband services by transmitting radio frequency
over conductors used for electric power transmission. This new technology has not been fully
practical as there are set back that needs to be handled such as Radio Frequency Transmission
among others. BPL still has the major advantage over any other broadband services in terms of its
coverage as electric power has reached mostly all rural areas and because of it high speed data
access.
This seminar paper looked at a brief history of this technology, general overview, issues relating to
this technology, its application and the status quo of the technology

Global Overpopulation And Its Effects On The Population
Global Overpopulation Controllable Or Inevitable Global overpopulation is an extremely broad
topic that represents exactly what one would think, the overpopulation of the entire globe. Though
global overpopulation is broad topic, there are many key factors that aid in the increasing total
population. Some factors are more effective than others, but the most altering factor is the
percentage of fertility. The direct connection between reducing the population is through pregnancy
rates. There are multiple ways that a women s pregnancy rate could be significantly reduced, by the
use of birth control. In the articles, Global Overpopulaton by Hobart Rowen and When Birth
Control Isn t for Birth Control by Karen Klein and How to Make Birth Control More Effective. by
Danielle Braff, these are great examples of how utilizing birth control will aid in the control of
maintaining and reducing the growing population rates. Including the possible results, if a solution
is not discovered and the population numbers continue to grow.
Human nature being what it is, most people tend to focus mainly on short term goals of enriching
themselves and experiencing pleasure rather than safeguarding the environment over the long term

  • 2. Consider The Lobster By David Foster Wallace Analysis American Novelist, essayist and short story author David Foster Wallace uses his essay Consider the Lobster to tell the reader about his thought provoking visit to the Maine Lobster Festival. Wallace wrote this essay to show his thought process dealing with the moral ambiguity of cooking lobster, and the research he did to further understand the subject. He primarily uses an informational tone with a heavy emphasis on pathos. He does a fairly good job remaining unbiased and showing the counterarguments. Wallace was sent to the Maine LobsterFestival by Gourmet Magazine, he was tasked simply to write about his experience there. He took this as an opportunity and decided that the risk he was taking in posing this question to the readers of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Following this point he points out that perhaps lobsters understand pain but they don t dislike it and how pain is not distressing them (Wallace 63). He reinstates the fact that there is a clear difference in pain as a purely neurological event from pain as actual suffering , the latter requiring an emotional component (Wallace 36). Later on he states that this means that although lobster s experience pain it is not a struggle based on discomfort but more of a preference. More akin to you preferring to sit in a certain spot around the table. These are used to inform the reader of the physical aspects of the lobster that affect the overall moral ambiguity of the subject. In his closing statements he takes the time to throw some more thought provoking sentences in, calling out a part of being a real gourmet (Wallace 64). Wallace wonders if future generations might look back and see our current eating practices similarly to how we see tribal sacrifices today. I see this as an extreme analogy but it has its use in this essay, it brings out the thought that perhaps we should take a step back from our food and think about ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Cherokee And Indian Culture A large part of the formation of our country and Western society involved interaction with tribes of Native Americans that inhabited North America well before Europeans settled it. It started with Spanish conquistadors and explorers, then British colonies which would mold and change into the revolutionized American Colonists. Along this succession, the Indian tribes on the east coast experienced extreme prejudice, regime changes and war. Among these tribes are the Cherokee. The Cherokee were at the forefront of Indian European relations. They remained strong in the southeast, despite war and epidemic. The Cherokee underwent significant culture changes yet not always by choice. War and disease tore apart the Cherokee as well other tribes but ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Theme Of Omens In The Alchemist The pungent smell of chestnut trees filled the air as his knees grew tremulous, insecurities filling his mind of the future. For years he had walked the trails in attempt to once again reunite with mankind after the devastating shipwreck that set him off course. From the corner of his eye he saw a swallowtail butterfly, nonetheless of his wife s favorite, no doubt it was a sign. He must keep moving. Alike to this harried individual and his determination to keep moving after being reminded of his family, author Paulo Coelho illustrates similar traits in characters as well as the same principles through his works of art. In the novel, The Alchemist, Coelho utilizes the motif of omens in Santiago s journey to reveal themes, and teach readers valuable life lessons. Omens prove to be a significant part of Coelho s masterpiece that guide Santiago on his treacherous journey, and convey a theme of the novel which is one s only task in life is to follow one s personal legend. • 5. How Youths Are Deemed As The Perpetrators Of Today s... When the words youth and young people come up there are different connotations that come along with it, some people may feel very positive towards the youth of today. However, some people feel the complete opposite and have negative views altogether. In some cases, people believe they have Ephebiphobia which is a fear of youngpeople, with 1.5 million Britons considering to move houses last year and about 1.7 million people not going out after dark to avoid youngsters (Lewis, 2016). Researchers are fearing that the public are alienating the youthand A rise in social Paedophobia will simply make matters worse Nick Pierce the IPPR (Institute for Public Policy Research). In this essay I will be discussing how youths are deemed as the perpetrators in today s society and how this theory came about. Furthermore, discussing how young people are also vulnerable to being victims as well, but are also under protected. Adding to that I will discuss the UK s policing structure such as stop and search and taking young people into custody and whether it has been successful for the past years in England and Wales or not. So what defines youth or a young person? criminologists for years have attempted to find a definition for youth. However, criminologist John Muncie has summed it up well: An ill defined and variable period of the life span between infancy and adulthood. (Davies, Francis, and Greer, 2007). Although this is a definition people still don t quite understand what ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Figurative Language In Mirrors By Justin Timberlake The song Mirrors by Justin Timberlake has a lot of figurative language I will prove a couple cases where that is true. Mirrors by Justin Timberlake has a lot of simile. A simile is a figure of speech involving the comparison of one thing with another thing of a different kind. It is used to make a description more empathic or vivid. The quote it s like you re my mirror from the song is a simile you know for a fact that it is a simile because a person cannot be a mirror. So Justin Timberlake is comparing a mirror to a person. A mirror and a person are nothing alike so you can automatically see that it is a direct comparison. This song also has a lot of symbolism. • 9. During the early 1960 s, Elijah Muhammad became known as the Honorable Elijah Muhammad and was well on the way to establishing governmental order for black people. He always showed tremendous love for the black community. IN 1974, The Honorable Elijah Muhammad completed a 40 year period (1934 1974). The year 1934 , represents the time in which he was left on his own by Master Fard Muhammad. The completion of this period climaxed a historic Saviors Day address, when he spoke on The Black God. 2 MINISTER LOUIS FARRAKHAN As a boy, his mother would give him the CRISIS MAGAZINE (an NAACP publication) to read as well as the black newspapers that were available. His mother, being a very dark and beautiful woman, wanted him to have a healthy respect and love for black people. Many times as a young child he would cry himself to sleep after hearing his mother and her friends talk about the plight of black people. He remembers how he would lay on the floor, looking up at the blue sky, asking God, why he would send help to other people and not to the black people in America? One day when Minister Farrakhan was eleven years old, he visited his uncle in New York City and he saw a picture of a black man on the wall of his uncle s apartment, which was something very strange in the forties. • 10. Traditional Medicine And Modern Medicine Since 7,000 BCE humans were discovered to have used primitive methods to practice medicine and overtime it s become more sophisticated. Medicine, in general, is the science and practice of the diagnosis, treatments, and prevention of disease. It encompasses a variety of evolved methods to maintain and rejuvenate health. When aspects of traditional medicinesuch as acupuncture and herbal remedies are combined with modern scientific medicine, complications regarding a person s mental or physical condition may be resolved in an affordable, ethical, and effective manner. Today in America the cost of goods in general is steadily rising while their earnings are disporinate to this increase leaving many in debt. Statistics show that healthcare is the number one cause of personal bankruptcy and is responsible for more collections than credit cards. According to Olga Khazan of the Atlantic Roughly 40 percent of Americans owe collectors money for times they were sick (2). Collectively, Americans are alarmingly paying more for treatments due to hidden costs in the initial procedure. A solution for this would involve incorporating traditional medicine with modern scientific medicine. • 11. Othello and Frankenstein Essay From Man to Monster When monsters are thought of a very distinct picture comes to mind. An ugly creature that is out for blood, born into a life where causing misery is his driving force. Do these features really define what a monster is; works of literature like Mary Shelley s Frankenstein and Shakespeare s Othellotell quite a different story. Monsters are not born but made just as people are not born evil but can sometimes end up there. However, in comparison the Monsters physical isolation causes him to mentally isolate himself. After being abandon by Frankenstein the Monster is forced to live on his own in the woods. Realizing that human kind will never truly accept him he asks Victor to create him a mate stating, I am alone and miserable man will not associate with me (Shelley, 118). • 12. Political Party System The American political party system has changed at least five times since the founding of The United States of America, and these changes started before the election of our first president, George Washington. Even though the Founding Fathers thought about political parties, to them it was pointless due to the fact that in a presidential election, the winner would be become the president and the runner up would become the vice president (Randall, 2012). In fact, the Constitution of the United Statesof America does not specifically say anything about political parties. In addition, George Washington, as outlined in his farewell address, spoke about how he hoped that political parties would not be formed due to fear of conflict and stagnation... Political life in the United States continues to be ruled by wide ranging ideological consensus, the electorate continues to drift near the center of the political range, and the parties, in order to continue to be competitive, generally drift towards the center to entice voters. President Clinton won the presidency in 1992 by promising both parties could practice fiscal responsibility. President George W. Bush won the presidency in 2000 asking for compassionate conservatism, which would be a call to remember that Democrats did not have exclusive control on social concerns. • 14. Tomorrow, When The War Tomorrow, When the War Began displays to us the kinds of changes people go through when they are confronted with an improbable situation, and why those changes arise. It shows us how one situation can affect each person differently. Homer is changed by the war, we first understood him to be this immature and irresponsible prankster with no regard to the consequences of his actions. Homer likes stirring trouble and doesn t care about what others say or think of him, homers attitude changes, he swiftly realizers that he can no longer mess around and cause trouble like he did before the war. Homer must take some responsibility and be accountable for his actions. Homer was becoming more surprising with every passing hour. • 16. Ancient Christian Worship By Andrew B. Mcgowan Zoryana Nichipor Christianity Western Culture Box #390 Word Count: Book Review of Ancient Christian Worship: Early Christian Practices in Social, Historical, and Theological Perspective Throughout this book, Andrew B. McGowan thoroughly informs us on each cultural background and formation of the different types of acts of worship throughout the early Christian church. We see through this information that the way the Church worships has evolved into something completely different from what it once was. In one form or another we are forced to appreciate how the early Christians worshipped and, I would even assert, are challenged to bring these traditions into our own mentality of worship. If we are to look to the New Testament and how worship is referred to, it is a great deal about ethos or a Christian way of life, but relatively little about the specifics of distinctive liturgical practice or performance. In chapter one of McGowan s book, we see a compare and contrast given with how the early church worshiped more communally as opposed to how we worship today; which is more aesthetic and internal. McGowan reiterates numerously that worship in the New Testament is a subject of service, reverence and ethics. They were not merely one sacramental part of a community or worship life but the central act around or within which others reading and preaching, prayer and prophecy were arranged. The New Testament was in the setting of a very communal culture. And ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 17. Disadvantages Of Trauma Introduction Many people experience trauma in various aspects of life. These aspects may be behavioral, social, mental and physical. The department of health and human service in the United States claims that 55 95% of women report trauma cases at some point of their life. Most abuses occur, and traumatizing situations occur in childhood and may be extended to adulthood. The trauma may come as a result of sexual abuse, family dysfunctions and parental negligence making children to develop stress and a feeling of loneliness. More women compared to men go through traumatic experiences at younger ages and a few cases recorded among the adults. According to the research done by Adverse Childhood Experience (ACE), they associated trauma with emotional problems, adult diseases, social problems, health and some disability cases (Classen Clark, 2017). Traumatized children are often withdrawn and stressed. They are not happy and are not socially active. They prefer to stay alone trying to wonder how they can solve their problems. They wonder whether the way they have to undergo the problems, they undergo unlike some of their friends who lead a normal happy life. They find it hard to accept some of their life situations and wish their lives were same as that of their friends. The trauma amongst children is very common, and they require encouragements so that they can cope with life. Trauma informed approach tries to impact the following to the affected individuals and ... • 18. Similarities Between Sappho And Catullus Colleen Thomassians Shinn Period 6 10/8/14 Compare and Contrast: Sappho and Catullus There are different forms of love, ranging from the lust of one another to a familial fondness. Two poets, Sappho and Catullus, each represent a different type of love in their respective poems. Sappho, a female poet born in the early sixth century B.C. on the Greek island of Lesbos, was said to be the tenth Muse and a supreme lyric poet of her time. Her life remains mostly a mystery, but through her poems it has been found out that she had a husband, and a daughter named Cleis. Catullus, a Roman poet that lived from roughly 84 to 54 B.C., found inspiration in and was influenced by Sappho, opting to write about love rather than politics like the rest of the poets of his time. He also popularized the style of love elegy in poems. Sappho and Catullus, as seen in Sleep, Darling and If Ever Anyone Anywhere respectively, use diction, the speaker, figurative language, and imagery in similar and different ways to express varying versions of love. One similarity between Sappho and Catullus is their use of neutral to formal diction. Both use phrases that, although seem simple and of neutral diction, are chosen to express their own form of love. However, where Sappho uses a word choice to show a fondness of her daughter and her innocence, Catullus transforms words from the same diction level to show his adoration and longing towards his lover. • 20. Sociological Explanations For The Divorce Phenomenon A major change that has occurred in the Western family is an increased incidence in divorce. Whereas in the past, divorce was a relatively rare occurrence, in recent times it has become quite commonplace. This change is borne out clearly in census figures. For example thirty years ago in Australia, only one marriagein ten ended in divorce; nowadays the figure is more than one in three (Australian Bureau of Statistics, 1996: p.45). A consequence of this change has been a substantial increase in the number of single parent families and the attendant problems that this brings (Kilmartin, 1997). An important issue for sociologists, and indeed for all of society, is why these changes in marital patterns have occurred. In this essay I will seek to critically examine a number of sociological explanations for the divorce phenomenon and also consider the social policy implications that each explanation carries with it. It will be argued that the best explanations are to be found within a broad socio economic framework. One type of explanation for rising divorce has focused on changes in laws relating to marriage. For example, Bilton, Bonnett and Jones (1987) argue that increased rates of divorce do not necessarily indicate that families are now more unstable. It is possible, they claim, that there has always been a degree of marital instability. They suggest that changes in the law have been significant, because they have provided unhappily married couples with access to a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 22. Theme Of Lysistrata Reading the story about Lysistrata made me think hard about what is the best title to replace the original. The new title that best reflects its theme, Desire of Women Between the War. Lysistrata, tells a story of women that are tired seeing their men going to war and are not pleasuring their ladies. These women from the Athens and Sparta decided to have a meeting to discuss how to punish the men who are going to the Peloponnesian War. Aristophanes explains to the women that war and territorial aggression are substitutes for sex and vice versa (Aristophanes 783). Our public spaces should not glorify historical policies of hatred and racism, argues Kevin Kamenetz, executive and president of the Maryland Association of Counties (Eversley 2017). That single phrase perfectly sums up what people across the country are attempting to convey, and expresses the main issue that many have with these statues. No person who fought for the right to keep humans as property is deserving of modern honor. 4For people who oppose the removal of Confederate statues, history is said to be their biggest concern. Theme Of Weather In The Great Gatsby Many great books use many different natural occurrences or things to symbolize themes, moods, a meaning of the book, etc. The Great Gatsby is no exception, Fitzgerald uses many different methods to blend the story into what it is, but one thing that he uses that might slip through the reader s mind is weather. Fitzgerald uses weather throughout the book to set/show the mood of the chapter/scene. Right from the start, Fitzgerald uses weather to set the tone for Nick. And so with the sunshine and the great bursts of leaves growing on the trees, just as things grow in fast movies, I had that familiar conviction that life was beginning over again with the summer (Fitzgerald 4). Nick had just moved to the East, looking to start a new life. It represents his high hopes that he has for his life ahead. He states earlier that he was restless after the war, so he is very eager to achieve these goals he has in mind. It also represents the coming changes in his life. Summer starts to come around right as he goes to Daisy s house, something that will affect his life for years to come. It is no accident that summer comes right as his life is about to change. Fitzgerald also uses a lot of weather to set the emotional tone when Gatsby reunites with Daisy. He uses the rainin chapter five to represent the nervousness of Gatsby. With his hands still in his coat pockets he stalked by me into the hall, turned sharply as if he were on a wire, and disappeared into the living room. It wasn t a bit funny. Aware of the loud beating of my own heart I pulled the door to against the increasing rain (86). A little earlier in the chapter, Gatsby also says that the rain is supposed to stop at four. Almost as if he this trying to tell himself that he will stop being nervous once Daisy shows up, but contrary to that, the rain intensifies, and so does Gatsby s signs of being nervous. But later in the chapter, Nick says that the sun starts to shine again, and he mentions, While the rain continued it had seemed like the murmur of their voices, rising and swelling a little now and then with gusts of emotion (88 89). In this part, Fitzgerald blatantly uses the rain to describe that Gatsby was nervous. It is basically saying that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 37. Women In Streetcar Named Desire During the early mid 20th century, women remained in a lower standing than men. Due to the unequal roles this led to unequal treatment and domestic abuse since men have more power and influence over women. Men have the dominant role in society since women were seen as the ones to take care of the children and house while men worked. Men even had more say in a marriage then women and it was easy for men to divorce than women. In cases where domestic abuse happens it was seen as a man exerting dominance over a womanand when alcohol is involved then it made the abuse worse. I looked over the vastness of Joshua Tree National Park, and saw a glimpse of myself. Love filled my soul; love of people, love of family. The backcountry has always helped me find this love; it has been my personal northstar, shepherding me toward research and medicine. I started backpacking at 13, trekking across the winter harsh lands of Idaho and Montana. It was difficult, but despite this, a feeling welled within me that pushed me forward. This feeling warmed my numb fingers and soothed the ache in my thighs. It drew me close to my friends, fostering the teamwork required. Each new trip allowed me moments of introspection. The teamwork led to trust, trust led to caring, caring led to empathy; eventually I understood the satisfaction of helping others. This is how the backcountry shaped me. Over the next year many choices I made would be based on these lessons. When I was in high school, I had no inkling of where I was going, but I tested the waters. I volunteered at the Mrs. Tewillegar Wildlife Foundation and did a rotation observing anesthesiologists in San Francisco. • 41. Symbolism In William Faulkner s As I Lay Dying There are many symbols in As I Lay Dying. William Faulkner is known for symbols in his novels. The character s names in this novel even have a meaning. Although they are hard to decipher, once the symbol is revealed, it makes the novel much more interesting. Throughout the novel, we see that almost every person s name in the Bundren family has a meaning, and every person has a symbol. The last name has a meaning itself. Bundren sounds like burden, and that is exactly what the family is to almost everyone. Starting with Anse, Faulkner uses his name to define the word anserous . Anserous means resembling a goose; silly; simple. In Addie s chapter, she describes him as a tall bird hunched in the cold weather (pg. 170). This explains Anse s goose like stature. His symbol throughout the novelis self greed. Anse states after Addie s death, But now I can get them teeth (pg. 111). This just proves how selfish he is and does not care about his wife s passing, only about his new teeth. Addie s name is very simple and does not have a meaning, but her symbol is deep. She is always looking out of the window at her coffin being built while she is lying in her bed. I believe Faulkner was showing how badly Addie wants to go to the other side. Faulkner uses powerful imagery, It was nigh toward daybreak when we drove the last nail and toted it into the house, where she was laying on the bed with the window open and the rain blowing on her again (pg. 73). On the flipside, there is danger to this method and you can easily get trapped in a formula. In order to counteract this, Chuck Jones disciplined himself. Discipline is our third method because animating always you to do whatever you want, so you have to think about what you won t do.
