Looking Into The Fashion Of The 1920 s
CHOOSING AND REFINING MY TOPIC
Initially, the search for an adequate research topic was quite frustrating for me and I struggled to settle
on one topic. Although throughout the process, I realised that my avid interest in design and fashion
stuck with me right through. I am a passionate design student, and art has always been one of my
strengths. Last semester my Design class competed a folio on the Art Deco movement and the 1920 s.
We were to choose one aspect of the movement and further research it. I chose to look into the fashion
of the 1920 s. This topic very much interested me and the intriguing fashion of the era has stuck with
me since. I am keen to delve further into the fashion of the 1920 s as the history of fashion is
something ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I have considered different ways to approach my idea in order to develop a question and have
deliberated some other questions to narrow it down. Questions like How has the fashion of the Art
Deco movement influenced modern day society? , Where are features of 1920 s fashion still seen
today? and How accurate are modern day representations of Art Deco fashion? . I found that
representations of fashion are frequently seen in movies. So I chose to narrow my topic down to
women s fashion and then more specifically to women s formal dresses. I then decided to focus on
Baz Luhrmann s 2013 rendition of The Great Gatsby as a source of representations fashion during the
Art Deco era. I have refined my ideas and decided to base my research on the question, To what extent
do the formal women s dresses from Baz Luhrmann s 2013 film The Great Gatsby accurately

Fabriano
Innovating a New Religious Experience: The Emergence of Biblical Pictorial Narratives During the
Renaissance
Spanning the 14th to 17th centuries, the Renaissance was an era of European history that saw
immense artistic and cultural innovation. Aptly named rebirth, the Renaissance was a revival of
Roman classicism and humanism. Inspired movements by the Church to humanize Christ and
encourage religious meditation led to the development of narrative artwork, pieces designed to draw in
viewers and invoke emotional participation in the depicted biblical scenes. To an extent, the pictorial
narratives served to expand the word of God to the illiterate. Nevertheless, the main significance of
the emergence of narrative images is that it demonstrates ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Illustrated are the three magi presenting the baby Jesus with a procession of lavish gifts. The opulently
detailed scene expands upon the tale as presented in the gospel according to Matthew, which simply
describes the three kings elation at having found the newborn child and their gifting of gold,
frankincense, and myrrh. Fabriano embellishes the scene, portraying a massive procession of
luxurious gifts carried by men in extravagant garb, as well as horses, oxen, exotic birds, even a
hunting dog. The magi are shown in exotic and luxurious attire rather than ancient robes, emblematic
of the opulent Gothic style combined with Renaissance elegance. Viewers are transported into the
scene by Fabriano s characters, who stand in elegant contrapposto. Some even face away from the
viewer, which, in conjunction with the verisimilitude of the work, gives the feeling of being physically
present in the scene. Fabriano invokes a juxtaposition of emotions in the smaller stories he tells, from
disdain for the pair of maid servants tactlessly examining the gift from the first magus, to concern for
the traveller being accosted by thieves, to even humorous excitement at the sight of a leopard
preparing to pounce on a deer. The immense amount of detailing and smaller stories presented within
the frame encourages beholders to spend longer in examining the piece, challenging the audience to
find the hidden Easter

An Study On Territoriality And Intrusion On Public Spaces
This study focuses in on the topic of territoriality and intrusion in public spaces; more specifically this
study focuses in on the effect of families with children on territoriality and intrusion in public spaces
(e.g. parking lots). Territoriality can be defined as the protection of a temporary created space, wherein
the creator of the space claims ownership and occupancy on the area. We operationally defined
territoriality: it is the time it takes for a participant (driver) to contact with the car (start timer) to the
time (in seconds) it takes for the participant s front bumper to leave the parking space. This definition
can also be stated as departure time.
Intrusion can be defined as the presence of an intruder who has the desire to enter a temporary created
space that is owned by another person. Intrusion is operationally defined so that when the participant
comes into contact with their vehicle, the participant understands that there is another driver(s) who
will take their claimed parking space right after they leave.
Our hypothesis is that families with children will take more time (more territorial) to leave a parking
space. The opposite will also be true, participants without children will take less time to leave a
parking space while the trend of increased territoriality because of intrusion remains for both
scenarios. The importance in the exploration into the effect of children of territoriality and intrusion
could lead to a more fruitful exploration into

Unresponsive Severity
There are three levels of severity for choking, mild, severe, and unresponsive. If a victim is
Unresponsive choking ALWAY check the scene, tap shout, yell for help and check for pulse and
breathing. Once it is determined that they are unresponsive begin CPR, giving 30 compressions at a
rate of 100 120 per minute. Then check the mouth for an object, then attempt two breaths. Do not grab
the object if it is to far down, continue compression because the force might push the object out
enough that you could grab it.
When a victim is choking and they are responsive, there are a series of steps that must to followed. The
first step is to check the scene and get the consent of the victim to help them. If they allow you to help

Analysis of Paul s Case by Willa Cather Essay
Analysis of Paul s Case by Willa Cather
Willa Cather s Paul s Case is a story about a young 16 year old man, Paul, who is motherless and
alienated. Paul s lack of maternal care has led to his alienation. He searches for the aesthetics in life
that that he doesn t get from his yellow wallpaper in his house and his detached, overpowering father
figure in his life. Paul doesn t have any interests in school and his only happiness is in working at
Carnegie Hall and dreams of one day living the luxurious life in New York City. Paul surrounds
himself with the aesthetics of music and the rich and wealthy, as a means to escape his true reality. In
Paul s true reality he has a lack of interest in school. His disinterest in school stems ... Show more

The only place Paul is able to escape his reality and unfulfilling life is at Carnegie Hall. Carnegie Hall
is a haven for Paul and gives him the classy atmosphere of the arts that he lacks in his life. He has an
usher job at Carnegie Hall and unlike his house and school, Paul enjoys going there to work. He is
able to escape and be with the rich and attractive people that come to the hall.
It was at the theatre and at Carnegie Hall that Paul really lived; the rest was but a sleep and forgetting.
The moment he inhaled the gassy, painty, dusty odour behind the scenes, he breathed like a prisoner
set free, and felt within him the possibility of doing or saying splendid, brilliant, poetic things. The
moment the cracked orchestra beat out the overture from Martha, or jerked at the serenade from
Rigoletto, all the stupid and ugly things slid from him, and his senses were deliciously, yet delicately
fired. (Cather 6)
Paul enjoys the aesthetics of Carnegie Hall with all the people and atmosphere. While listening to the
music he is able to leave his life behind and go off into another life and place that he dreams of. A
lifelong dream of Paul occurs when he makes the trip to New York City. The trip to New York City
gives Paul the opportunity to live the life he always dreamed of. After being forced to leave his job as
an usher at Carnegie Hall Paul gets a job working at Denny and Carson s office firm. He gets the
money to go to New York City by taking the money

Compare And Contrast Chillingworth And Heathcliff
Both Chillingworth and Heathcliff are looking for revenge and are portrayed as evil and malice in
their ways of doing so. Their revenge drives them. They make themselves insane for revenge, as they
grow weak from wanting it so badly. Both Heathcliff and Chillingworth have had wrongs done to
them, and these wrongs push both of the characters to the point that revenge becomes their entire life
goal. In the Scarlet Letter, Chillingworth becomes so invested in his revenge that he becomes the
minister s (Dimmesdale s) one trusted friend the person whom Mr. Dimmesdale confined all the fear,
remorse, agony, ineffective repentance, and sinful thoughts he struggled to keep away. Chillingworth
may seem calm on the outside (similar to Heathcliff), but ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In Wuthering Heights, the character Heathcliff is quite passionately in love with Catherine
Earnshaw/Linton. His love for her overpowers his life, his desire to live comes from her, and his need
to get his revenge on her and the those who wronged him. Heathcliff wishes Catherine torment. He
wants her to suffer always, but states he cannot live without her, and that she is his soul. Heathcliff s
quote parallels to an earlier chapter in the narrative, when Catherine claimed to Nelly that her and
Heathcliff are one in the same. He manages to wish her great pain while still mournful and distraught
over the idea of her impending death. Heathcliff hates Catherine for what she did to him but at the
same time is terribly in love with her. The idea that love and hatred are a matching pair is also seen in
The Scarlet letter. The author compares the loss Roger Chillingworth feels after his greatest enemies
dies, to one of a dead lover. The book concludes that both leave characters drained in the end. This is
seen with Chillingworth. After Dimmesdale s death, there s no more devils work to do , so it is time
for Chillingworth to return to his master (in hell through death). Chillingworth is shriveling away,
almost gone from human

Death Of The Fallen At The Rancho 16
On June 25th, 2009, I was riding front passenger while my mom drove her red Ford Escape down
Highway 111. All of sudden a another vehicle speeds up on the left of us while at the same time my
mom change into the left lane. Trying to avoid our vehicle, the car spun out and rolled over. My mom
briefly lost control, but manage pull over to the side. While the accident was non collision the car and
my young mind were hardly unscathed. It was a weird day from the very beginning, my mom
announced out the nowhere that me and two brothers were going to the movies to see Transformers:

It was the sound I ll never forget. Fast moving metal and rubber against asphalt and rock make a noise
that you only hear in the movies.
I thought we were going to spin out or that someone from behind would back end us. Luckily My
mom took control immediately and we pulled not far from the crash. We were okay, shaken, but okay.
I saw a few other cars coming over to the side and try to help, I remember seeing a grey Toyota
Corolla pulling over with a woman in a business pants suit rushing out her with a cell phone in her
hand. The SUV was completely wrecked and I didn t know the condition of the driver. I saw a
California Highway Patrol Officer who must have seen the whole thing because he was driving down
the other side traffic lights blazing, calmly speaking through his radio for backup.
My mom left to inspect the damage, while me and my brothers were sweating profusely in the
summer heat, I cracked my door open to allow colder air to circulate. The sounds of speeding cars off
the highway drowned out voices outside. I wanted to get out and get closer to the SUV, but I was
afraid of being told to go back by CHP officers.
Not long after I hear my mom s voice coming closer with a cop a not far behind, writing in his
notebook. Then they come into view mom showing officer the damage to the windshield. That made
him write furiously in the notebook taking in every detail. Another Officer came by and

Some other questions that I am going to answer that support my main problem are whether or not the
type has anything to do with how late a bill get paid.
Analysis and Methods
Based on the data the dependant (response) variable is the days overdue which is represented in Figure
E as Y. The independent (predictor) variable is the bill amount and the type of bill which are
represented by X in Figure. In analyzing all the data I was able to conclude that we did not need the
type in the regression analysis, so based on that conclusion the following analysis are what I based my
report on:
A) 1st Analysis Overdue Bills Commercial
a. Scatter Plot Shows: Figure A
i. The higher the bill the less overdue it is, and the lower the bill the more overdue it is
b. The scatter plot follows the straight line this scatter plot has a negative linear relationship.

Symptoms And Consequences Of Chickenpox
Some diseases seem simple and commonplace, but people don t always fully understand how they are
contracted or for how long they can spread them. Even those most seemingly harmless diseases can
have consequences that lead to hospitalizations, later complications, and death. Education to the
public on these diseases is important for preventing their continued spread. Some diseases could be
nearly eradicated if people understood the usefulness of prevention techniques and how not to spread
the disease if it is contracted. Chickenpox, also known as Varicella, is one of those diseases that seems
like it is not a big deal, but could be for some people that are more vulnerable to its effects. The first
thing that a person must understand with chickenpox is how it is transmitted and how contagious it is.
Chickenpox is caused by a simple virus called the varicella zoster virus (VZV). It is spread from
person to person fairly easily once it is contracted. Chickenpox is an extremely contagious disease
among those who have never been vaccinated for chickenpox or have never had chickenpox before. It
can spread simply by coughing, sneezing, breathing in virus particles, or touching the blisters of an
infected person. Occasionally chickenpox can be caught from someone who has shingles as well,
because shingles and chickenpox are both caused by VZV. One difficult feature of chickenpox is a
person is contagious one to two days before blisters even appear, therefore at that point they are

Irony In The Emperor s New Clothes
The literary element of irony is perfectly demonstrated in the short story, The Emperor s New Clothes.
This tale opens by introducing a markedly vain emperor who is later fooled by a couple of con artists.
The two tricksters convince the emperor that they can tailor an outfit so magnificent and extraordinary
that it appears invisible to those ...who [are] too stupid or too incompetent to appreciate its quality
(Anderson). The emperor, being intrigued, supplies the two men with many valuable materials and
requests for them to fabricate such a suit for him. Unwilling to look idiotic or incompetent both the
emperor and his subjects pretend to be enamored with the invisible, ostensibly beautiful, garment.
Nearing the end of the story the emperor decides to adorn his outfit publically so all can appreciate his
new clothes. It is not until a mere child points out that the emperor is naked that the emperor and his
subordinates become disenchanted with the lie peddled by the two frauds, and ... Show more content

Lovecraft is a tale which preserves this fact. During the beginning of the second chapter in this five
chapter short story, the main protagonist boards a bus commandeered by a malformed man with large
feet, scaly skin, and unblinking blue eyes. As he makes his lone journey towards Innsmouth, the main
character takes note of how increasingly empty and bleak the scenery becomes. He first does this by
establishing a juxtaposition between the warm and sunny day with the desolate landscape around him
(Lovecraft). The road leading into to the town of Innsmouth is rather barren and devoid of life,
offering only the sight of sedge grass, and stunted shrubbery (Lovecraft). After crossing a few crude
wooden bridges the bus finally arrives at its predetermined destination (Lovecraft). It is at this point

Airplane Impact
Another author takes a different approach to the effect the military had on the airplane in the military
impact school of thought. Christine MacLeod suggests in his article that the military was the main
reason for the advancement of the airplane at such a rapid pace. With inventors coming from all
corners of the nation to pool their knowledge to advance the airplane during the war, and inventions
getting mixed into other inventions, MacLeod figured that without the war to spur them on at such an
incredibly rate, the airplane wouldn t have advanced as far as it had. He analyzes the many lawsuits
and compensations the United States had to credit to inventors due to the mixing of inventions and
developments individuals had during the war. There ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There was a wide range of ideas given, from the military side all the way to the ideas dating back to
the 1200s. This subject of flight and the things that impacted this concept the most has been viewed
for the last 100 years. Throughout this time period, the views have not stayed the same or consistent
from one author to the next. There have been many different angles taken to this idea throughout these
years. There have been many ideological shifts since historians have first started looking at this topic,
one being the shift towards man. This idea that we are the center of everything and we should have our
needs catered to. This idea can have an effect on how historians view this history, with many of the
authors reviewed in this historiography viewed the main impact being the general public. Whether in a
good or bad way, these historians felt that the public was in the middle of the influence. Though this is
not disagreeing with that idea, that thought had an impact on this shifting ideology. The older sources
tend to give the credit to either the Wright Brothers who actually invented flight, or the military or
someone else specific. Though this is not a growing field of study due to no new information coming
out it is still in people s interest to continue to study it. History is a gift given to us in the idea that we

Hamlet Film Analysis
Over the course of the past fifty years there have been many cinematic productions of Shakespeare s
Hamlet, some of which remain true to the text while others take greater liberties from the original
format. Director Kenneth Branagh s 1996 production of Hamlet was true to Shakespeare s work in that
the films dialogue was delivered word or word as it is presented in the text. In contrast, Franco
Zeffirelli conducted his 1990 production of Hamlet in a much more liberal direction in which lines,
scenes and characters were omitted from film. I argue that from the perspective of an individual with
moderate knowledge in Shakespearian literature, that the best film versions of Hamlet are those that
take the most liberties from the text. I concur that the following elements reflect the level of liberty
taken in regards to the text and that these elements determine which film is the best; changes to
dialogue, changes to plot, presence of theme portrayal of emotions and the setting.
In 1996 Kenneth Branagh starred as Hamlet in his self directed version of the play. Branagh s script
for the film was fiercely loyal to Shakespeare s original words which resulted in a four hour cinematic
experience. The immense amount of dialogue was delivered rapidly and added a layer of complexity
which effected the audience s ability to analyze and comprehend the story line. A lack of
understanding is problematic as it contributes to a loss of character development as well as confusion

The Importance Of The Final Solution
The Final Solution was the term used for the Nazis plan to annihilate the Jewish population during
WWII. The Holocaust was the systematic, bureaucratic, state sponsored, and murder of approximately
6 million jews and 5 million others by the Nazi regime and its collaborators. The Nazi s decided that
certain people should not live and worked on killing them while they were in power from 1933 1945.
After WWII finished, the rest of the world discovered the horrors of what had been going on in
Germany and their occupied territory. The SS officers set up death camps to kill millions of jews in
Europe. The Wannsee Conference was a meeting that coordinated the implementation of the Final
Solution which planned to remove millions of European jews. From what we know of it was the start

Aspect: Aspect grammatical category of verbs denotes the flow of time related to the event they
express. Unlike tense that is semantically rather related to the event in time, aspect is about time
moving through the event (Riemer 314). The difference between, for example, I walked and I was
walking is in our view of the two events, the first as an event that happened in a certain point in the
past while the second viewed with an emphasis on the temporal sense of the event over which it
happened. Distinctions can be made between perfective and imperfective aspect. The marking of the
two and appearance is different among languages. For example, Mandarin Chinese offers two
perfective markers; le and guo. However, in English, perfective aspect forms are those verbs in the
simple form like read, ate, walk... and imperfective forms are progressive forms such as am walking,
was reading, were eating... It is crucial to understand that the completion or duration of the event does
not distinguish between perfective and imperfective aspect because both can be expressed by either
form. For, example, the use of struggled in the sentence Ali struggled during his fourth round clearly
shows that the perfective form can be used to express an event that happened over a period of time.

Similarities Between Sita And Sita
Objective of my summer project is to compare and contrast the personality and life of our two greatest
women of epics Goddess Sita and Draupadi. I would like to draw attention towards that how different
they were yet they were similar.
One daughter was wanted and other was unwanted for the father,Draupadi just erupted from fire her
father just wanted a son. One erupted from fire full grown, Draupadi a woman who hasn t experienced
childhood. She had to suffer because of her husbands. Goddess Sita was saved by her husband. Like
Goddess Sita Draupadi was also reincarnation of several goddess but she is only a village Goddess
and she is worshipped alone without her five husbands. Whereas Goddess Sita is worshipped with her
husband and sometimes ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Draupadi, however, does not get the pleasure of raising her children; they are sent to the house of
Krishna while she lives in exile in the forest with her husbands. All five are murdered by Drona s son
who refuses to take defeat lying down. The kingdom of the Pandavas is passed on to the grandson of
one of Arjuna s other wives. Both Sita and Draupadi are trophies in an archery contest. Ram breaks a
mighty bow that he was supposed to string to win Sita s hand while Arjuna strikes the eye of a fish
rotating on a wheel hanging from the ceiling to win Draupadi s hand. Some Ramayana retellings tell
us of how Sita met Ram in a garden before marriage and it was love at first sight, there is no such
romance in Draupadi s life. In fact, she prevents Karna from participating in the archery contest as he
is of low caste and ends up marrying a brahmin who turns out to be Arjuna disguised. Sita s sister and
cousins are given in marriage to Ram s brothers. Draupadi is shared by Arjuna s four brothers, all of
whom have many other wives. Thus while Sita experiences monogamy, Draupadi experiences
polyandry and

Editing Time and Space in Movie Making
Citizen Kane (1941)
The manipulation of time and space in the film of citizen cane is different from that of Pulp Fiction in
that it considers formal elements of film technique such as Mise en scene where it essentially involves
a costume, setting and makeup staging and lighting (Belton, 46). The very important scene that
happens in front of the camera appears in the final shot of the film. The setting function of the film has
highlighted the key aspect of Kane s life compared to Pulp Fiction that is seen to intersect in many
venues (Belton, 37).
Cinematography has been used in the process of capturing the moving images and the manipulation of
such images (Belton, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is because the editor has been able to create something in the movie that cannot be filmed by the
use of various techniques in order to show the change of time visibly. These techniques give the editor
a chance to give a different effect and be able to create something totally different to the film. The use
of technique shows people an object change or the environment of an object change of a certain period
of time such as a person acting in the film such as getting older or younger (Belton, 57).
The film of Pulp Fiction is a good example of manipulation of time and space. Quentin Tarantino
directed an iconic film that was filled with humor and violence as well as a nonlinear storyline. The art
of the techniques is used to connect the interconnecting storylines of the mobster, fringe players, the
mysterious briefcase and the small criminals (Belton, 46). This has presented the film in a
chronological manner as a result of its unconventional structure, the extensive used of homage and the
pictures of self reflexity. The holdup stage dinner starts the film in where the technique of time and
space is used in order to pick up the story of Jules, Vincent, and Butch (Belton,

Peter Benchley wrote Jaws the novel before it was made into a film directed by Steven Spielberg.
Jaws is a thriller/horror with the main aim being to build up suspense and tension. When making the
film Jaws Steven Spielberg had to face the challenging task of translating Benchley s popular novel
into a hit movie whilst still maintaining the suspense created through the many textual devices used by
Benchley, such as language techniques and sentence structure. Spielberg managed use different

Another interesting point is as Chrissie is removing her clothes while running it is almost as she is
leaving herself exposed to potential danger and making herself more vulnerable. At this point as the
viewer sees Chrissie isolated in the water they realise that she is facing danger only limited by their
own imagination.
As Chrissie continues swimming, the frame changes to a point of view shot, accompanied by the same
music as in the opening shot. The audience s thoughts change immediately from the images of the
cheerful beach party to the earlier reference of the shark in the opening sequence. This provides a very
effective contrast. The audience s expectations are realised when Chrissie feels a sharp pain, and then
begins splashing about in the water as she is attacked.
The unseen shark thrashes her around in the water, and she eventually clings onto a buoy, making its
bell ring, in a vain attempt to alert the nearby community. After a final grasp for breath, she finally
disappears under the surface of the water leaving the viewers with the burden of her death.
The second victim of the shark is a young boy named Alex, this time the scene is set in along the
beach, crowded with people enjoying the long Independence Day holiday. Also on the beach is police
chief Brody with his own family. Sunbathers lie on the packed beach. This is a very unlikely place and

The Aging Process For The Older Adults Essay
Successful Aging Paper
Albatul Albulayhi
University of the Incarnate Word Successful Aging Paper
Aging is inevitable; as people age in the second half of life, the body often faces some challenges
mentally and physically. Aging was defined by Robert Arking (1998), as a Time dependent series of
cumulative, progressive, intrinsic, and harmful changes that begin to manifest at reproductive maturity
and eventually end in death (p. 520). The aging process for the older adults is influenced by many
aspects, including socioeconomic status, age, education, and scale of physical and cognitive
functioning. As people get older, their financial status, security, health, employment, productivity, and
independence are all significant parts of the process. Some older adults experience illnesses that come
with aging, and the illnesses do not distinguish by culture or religion. Friendships that have grown up
throughout the years are a significant aspect of aging well, although for some older people it becomes
difficult to keep in touch with friends, family, society, or other loved ones. Financial status may
become limited as a person ages. Successful aging is one of the most significant ideas in gerontology
(Katz Calasanti, 2015). Utilized as a model, a concept, an approach, an experience, and an outcome, it
has inspired investigators to create related terms such as healthy, positive, active, productive, and
effective aging (Katz Calasanti, 2015). John Rowe and

The Basic Buddhist Teachings
Explain the basic Buddhist teachings including the Three Marks of Reality, the Four Noble Truths, and
the Noble Eightfold Path. The Three Marks of Reality denote the nature of human existence: the
reality of suffering (which does not mean the presence of sorrow, but rather the existence of a
constantly changing world where neither extreme happiness nor misery is stable); the impermanent
nature of all things, including human existence; and finally egolessness or the notion that there is no
stable, human self (O Brien, 2012, Three Marks). The Three Marks of Reality relate directly to the
Four Noble Truths, the first tenant of which is that there is suffering in the world, and the second of
which is that there is a cause of suffering: suffering caused by the false conception that there is a
stable human ego. The third noble truth is that there is an end to suffering, and the fourth is that the
end to suffering can be achieved by following the Eightfold Path (O Brien, 2012, Four Noble Truths).
The Eightfold Path is divided into three basic sections: that of wisdom, ethical conduct, and mental
discipline. Right view and right intention means understanding what the Buddha taught and striving to
follow the path for the right reasons. Right speech, action, and livelihood mean acting in a beneficial
manner towards others. Right effort, mindfulness and concentration require the practitioner to
discipline him or herself with meditation (O Brien, 2012, Eightfold Path). Amongst all

about 10 minutes. Eventually I calmed Leon down and helped him off the ground and retain his
balance. He did not grab his clothes that were in the yard instead Leon says to my mom and I that he is
going to call the police and get us put in jail. Leon and my mom continue fussing at one another and at
this point I knew that I was not going to let drive my vehicle because she is so mad at this point, and
she would probably try to run him over. To avoid that situation, I drove my mom to her friend s house

Shakespeare s Use of Aristotle s Guidelines to Tragedy in...
Throughout time, the tragedy has been seen as the most emotionally pleasing form of drama, because
of its ability to bring the viewer into the drama and feel for the characters, especially the tragic hero.
This analysis of tragedy was formed by the Greek philosopher Aristotle, and also noted in his Poetics
(guidelines to drama). As a playwright, Shakespeare used Aristotle s guidelines to tragedy when
writing Othello. The play that was created revolved around the tragic hero, Othello, whose tragic flaw
transformed him from a nobleman, into a destructive creature, which would inevitably bring him to his
downfall. This transformation follows an organic movement of the complex plot from the beginning,

Third, was thought, which was used to show the characters motives, either through soliloquy or direct
conversation. After those came diction, song and spectacle, which were used to contribute to the unity
of the play s plot. By using these guidelines, Shakespeare created one of his greatest Aristotelian
tragedies. This is because he applied the Poetics guidelines to complex plot, the tragic hero, and the
establishment of pity, fear, and catharsis of the audience s emotions. The complex plot follows Othello
and his transformation from nobleman to monster through the exploitation of his tragic flaw. As the
plot moves from exposition, complication, challenge, conflict, climax, and finally to dénouement,
Othello goes through a recognition scene which leads to a reversal in his fortune and his scene of
suffering. As noted by Aristotle, a complex plot must be able to move organically from beginning to
end while still staying universal and probable. Also, as the plot moves on there should be a clear
movement from exposition to denomount. Finally, the tragedy should have a recognition scene, a
reversal of fortune, as well as a scene of suffering. In Othello, the organic movement of the play is
achieved by following Othello s transformation. At the beginning of the drama, the audience finds out
about the marriage between Othello

A Reasonable Explanation For Closed End Fund Puzzles
1.Introduction
Stock mutual funds consist of open end funds and closed end funds. There are different operations
between these two funds. Open end funds are purchased and sold by investors directly, however,
investors should purchase and sell closed end fund via stock market, then stock market trade with
closed end funds. Closed end funds characteristics decide that investors should sell closed end funds
to another investors, once they want to switch funds to liquidity. The price of closed end funds always
meets some aberrant circumstances, which are called closed end fund puzzles.
Closed end fund puzzles summarize four abnormal phenomenons which occur in funds price. Lee,
Shleifer and Thaler (1991) state that three elements (agency costs, tax liabilities and illiquidity of
assets) may quote for explanations of these puzzles in traditional finance. Nevertheless, they advocate
that analyzing puzzles base on behaviour finance, such as noise trader risk theory and individual
investor sentiment theory, can expound puzzles better.
This paper aim to find out a more reasonable explanation for closed end fund puzzles. In part one, the
description of puzzles will be given. Traditional standard explanation will be introduced and discussed
in part two. Part three will represent explanation in behaviour finance methods. Part four will compare
different articles evidences and findings. Part five will make conclusions.

The novel Till We Have Faces is about the story of Cupid and Psyche seen from the perspective of

has already been told before. However, the novel Till We Have Faces is different compared to The
Chronicles of Narnia in which Lewis took the original story of the resurrection in Christianity and
turned it into a new perspective through Aslan and the world of Narnia. In the novel Till We Have
Faces, Lewis took a Greek myth and created the prehistory of the myth and therefore created the story
behind the actual story about Cupid and Psyche. The story is about the ancient Greek gods and the

Another aspect is when Orual convinced Psyche to put light upon her husband in order to see him
fully. Orual is depicted as Eve, who tricked and persuaded Adam (Psyche) into eating the apple of
Eden, even though she knew it was wrong. Further, as Psyche got caught in doing so, the god of the
mountain raged and exiled Psyche: Now Psyche goes out into exile. Now she must hunger and thirst
and tread hard rocks. Those against whom I cannot fight must do their will upon he (Lewis 173 174).
Although the rest of the quote (which is not quoted in here) is important in order to understand the
essence of the book, the depiction of the exiling of Psyche is a more important aspect when it comes
to the depiction of Christianity in the novel. The fact that Psyche must hunger and thirst and tread hard
rocks (Lewis 174) is a depiction of how Adam and Eve had to leave the garden of Eden and therefore
leave the paradise in order to live on earth, which compared to paradise is a place of hunger and thirst
and treading hard rocks. The depiction of Christianity and how Orual and Psyche disobeyed one of the
gods draws a parallel to Christianity and how Adam and Eve disobeyed

Impact of OPEC s Oil Pricing on the Petroleum Market
Energy resources are essential for national security, technological development, overall contemporary
life style, etc. In this respect, oil is the main source for worldwide economy. Peak oil would imbalance
countries economical situations and may lead to a chain reaction with negative effects on multiple
layers. Evidently, there is mutual interest to prevent such a thing from happening but the possibility is
nevertheless considered. OPEC s initial goal to ensure stable prices on petroleum markets in order to
avoid any negative fluctuations did not always correspond. The organization actually favored inflation
more than in one occasion but its influence in controlling oil prices dropped considerably since 1973.
It was proven that, having quadrupled the price of oil, OPEC had in its hands the power to inflict
economic hurt on the rich countries. (Beenstock 2007, p. 134) Although OPEC does not completely
control the oil market today, it nevertheless continues to be influent because its decisions to reduce
production may lead to either a decrease or increase of oil prices. OPEC s existence is dependent on
the future of oil. Whether or not oil will dominate as the main energetic source for worldwide
economy will decide its future. Considering that OPEC s oil has been a vital source of energy during
the last half of century, (Khusanjanova 2011, p. 19) and that oil is expected to play a similar role
within the next century, we can assume the organization will at least maintain its

In the essay Unforgettable Miss Bessie, the author Carl. T. Rowan doesn t share the details about Miss
Bessie s background until the ninth paragraph of his writing. I believe he did this so that while he
described what she was like as an individual, you could paint your own picture of her before you
found out what made her that way. When taking into consideration her role in society as a teacher, it
was fascinating to hear that she attended a school that was originally for black people. During the time
period in which Miss Bessie was getting her education, many places didn t even have schools that
people with dark skin could attend. Another reason Rowan may have waited to explain Miss Bessie s
background early on, is because it helped the reader understand why she was so tough on Carl and his
education. Bessie knew many of the struggles African Americans could face if they didn t focus on
school and the right things, so she did everything in her power to put him on the right track. The first
time you hear of Mrs. Bessie s background it will surprise you, but when looking at how she taught
and worked with students, it s not surprising that she become such a special teacher because of her

Charles Robert Darwin was an English naturalist who was born in Shrewsbury, England on February
12, 1809. He was the second youngest of six children. Before Charles Darwin, there were many
scientists throughout his family. His father, Dr. Robert Darwin, was a medical doctor, and his
grandfather, Dr. Erasmus Darwin, was a well known botanist. Darwin s mother, Susannah Darwin,
died when he was only eight years old. Darwin was a child that came from wealth and privilege and
who loved to explore nature. In October 1825 at age sixteen, Darwin enrolled at Edinburgh University

Darwin believed all plants and animals had changed from past families by natural selection. An
example of natural selection would be the different coloration between beetles (Understanding
Evolution, 2008). There are two different colored beetles, one is brown and the other is green. Since
the environment cannot have an overpopulation, the green beetles will get consumed by birds and not
be able to survive and reproduce as much as the brown beetles. The brown beetles have offspring
because the trait has a genetic basis. When they produce more offspring, they become more common
in the environment and if this process continues, the population of beetles will be mostly brown.
Certain characteristics are innate within a species which help them reproduce and survive more than
other species with no such inborn characteristics. These species will become more favorable and most
common in the population. Darwin s theory of natural selection favors organisms that are prone to
adapting well to the environment, it makes it easy to pass on their genes stabilizing the population and
making it stronger. Species begin to die out according to, what Darwin calls, survival of the fittest.
Darwin s Survival of the Fittest theory is a natural process resulting in the development of a species
best adapted to the environment. This is when the species only the species that are best adapted the
environment and its conditions are able to survive and reproduce. If they are not

after graduation. At Gallaudet, Braggs had ended up going to the prom with Ruth. His friends joked
with him that he was going with her. Then he ended up being glad he went with her once he had a
good time at prom and she expressed how she was to be blind along with being deaf in six months.
Braggs was not always just all play; he did a load of work as well.
Jobs are more fun when people enjoy them instead of going just for the money. Braggs was a typical
man in changing his mind about what he wanted to do. In the beginning of this book, he is working so

that he got an education. He ends up going to an empty theatre where Marceau was there and saw his
acting skills. Marceau then invited him to France to act with his troupe. No one in France knew about

Imagery in Macbeth Essay
Imagery in Macbeth
Shakespeare s powerful imagery has never been more apparent than in Macbeth.
He begins the play with a startling image of three witches chanting in a furious
thunderstorm, Fair is foul, and foul is fair. Hover through the fog and filthy air
(1.1.10 11). The eerie chanting creates a dark, mysterious tone that leaves the reader
feeling uncomfortable and expecting odd and evil things to happen. Later, when
Macbeth and Banquo come across the three weird sisters, the underlying evil creeps back
up when Macbeth says, So foul and fair a day I have not seen, and Banquo comments,
What are these So withered, and so wild in their attire, That look not like the inhabitants

He clearly is not comfortable and the
tone is somber and depressing. Lady Macbeth does not seem to share her husband s
anxiety, but it continues to show when he says, How is t with me that every noise appalls
me?...Will all great Neptune s ocean wash this blood Clean from my hand? No; this my
hand will rather The multitudinous seas incarnadine (2.3.57,59 61). The image of him on
his knees agonizing over his actions strikes hard and clear and the tone is one of remorse
and a wishing for a chance to change the past. The act ends with a feeling of uneasiness
as Malcolm and Donalbain leave the country, and Ross and Macduff converse about
the old king s death and the crowning of Macbeth. Macduff says, Well, may you see
things well done there. Adieu, Lest our old robes sit easier than our new! (2.4.37 38). The
image of concern for the future and the implied uneasiness hints that not all is well in
Scotland.
The somber, remorseful, and uneasy tones are effective in sending the reader on
an emotional roller coaster with the characters and changing the reader s feelings from
about each character based on how they respond to the tone. For instance, Lady Macbeth
becomes the most hated person in the play due to her complete insensitivity and all around
disregard for human life. She stands out against a background of subjects mourning their
king.

This discovery shows the extraordinary accuracy between the two sets of manuscripts. The texts are
believed to have been written by a strict Jewish sect called the Essenes. This religious community led
by one they called the Teacher of Righteousness lived a demanding routine of self discipline. Their
interpretation of the law was severe, they held fellowship meals to which admission was closely
guarded. They interpreted prophetic scripture as referring to events of their own day and believed that
they had an important part to play in the hope of Israel. 2

were many other groups and movements in Secondary Temple Judaism. It is now evident that Judaism
in the land of Israel was open to Greek influences from the 3rd century onwards in the areas of
language, economics, military strategy, politics, culture and religion .3 The scrolls shed light on the
time when Jesus and John the Baptist lived and the beliefs of the early Christians. We are given

  • 2. Looking Into The Fashion Of The 1920 s CHOOSING AND REFINING MY TOPIC Initially, the search for an adequate research topic was quite frustrating for me and I struggled to settle on one topic. Although throughout the process, I realised that my avid interest in design and fashion stuck with me right through. I am a passionate design student, and art has always been one of my strengths. Last semester my Design class competed a folio on the Art Deco movement and the 1920 s. We were to choose one aspect of the movement and further research it. I chose to look into the fashion of the 1920 s. This topic very much interested me and the intriguing fashion of the era has stuck with me since. I am keen to delve further into the fashion of the 1920 s as the history of fashion is something ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I have considered different ways to approach my idea in order to develop a question and have deliberated some other questions to narrow it down. Questions like How has the fashion of the Art Deco movement influenced modern day society? , Where are features of 1920 s fashion still seen today? and How accurate are modern day representations of Art Deco fashion? . I found that representations of fashion are frequently seen in movies. So I chose to narrow my topic down to women s fashion and then more specifically to women s formal dresses. I then decided to focus on Baz Luhrmann s 2013 rendition of The Great Gatsby as a source of representations fashion during the Art Deco era. I have refined my ideas and decided to base my research on the question, To what extent do the formal women s dresses from Baz Luhrmann s 2013 film The Great Gatsby accurately represent the ... • 3. Fabriano Innovating a New Religious Experience: The Emergence of Biblical Pictorial Narratives During the Renaissance Spanning the 14th to 17th centuries, the Renaissance was an era of European history that saw immense artistic and cultural innovation. Aptly named rebirth, the Renaissance was a revival of Roman classicism and humanism. Inspired movements by the Church to humanize Christ and encourage religious meditation led to the development of narrative artwork, pieces designed to draw in viewers and invoke emotional participation in the depicted biblical scenes. To an extent, the pictorial narratives served to expand the word of God to the illiterate. Nevertheless, the main significance of the emergence of narrative images is that it demonstrates ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Illustrated are the three magi presenting the baby Jesus with a procession of lavish gifts. The opulently detailed scene expands upon the tale as presented in the gospel according to Matthew, which simply describes the three kings elation at having found the newborn child and their gifting of gold, frankincense, and myrrh. Fabriano embellishes the scene, portraying a massive procession of luxurious gifts carried by men in extravagant garb, as well as horses, oxen, exotic birds, even a hunting dog. The magi are shown in exotic and luxurious attire rather than ancient robes, emblematic of the opulent Gothic style combined with Renaissance elegance. Viewers are transported into the scene by Fabriano s characters, who stand in elegant contrapposto. Some even face away from the viewer, which, in conjunction with the verisimilitude of the work, gives the feeling of being physically present in the scene. Fabriano invokes a juxtaposition of emotions in the smaller stories he tells, from disdain for the pair of maid servants tactlessly examining the gift from the first magus, to concern for the traveller being accosted by thieves, to even humorous excitement at the sight of a leopard preparing to pounce on a deer. The immense amount of detailing and smaller stories presented within the frame encourages beholders to spend longer in examining the piece, challenging the audience to find the hidden Easter ... • 4. An Study On Territoriality And Intrusion On Public Spaces This study focuses in on the topic of territoriality and intrusion in public spaces; more specifically this study focuses in on the effect of families with children on territoriality and intrusion in public spaces (e.g. parking lots). Territoriality can be defined as the protection of a temporary created space, wherein the creator of the space claims ownership and occupancy on the area. We operationally defined territoriality: it is the time it takes for a participant (driver) to contact with the car (start timer) to the time (in seconds) it takes for the participant s front bumper to leave the parking space. This definition can also be stated as departure time. Intrusion can be defined as the presence of an intruder who has the desire to enter a temporary created space that is owned by another person. Intrusion is operationally defined so that when the participant comes into contact with their vehicle, the participant understands that there is another driver(s) who will take their claimed parking space right after they leave. Our hypothesis is that families with children will take more time (more territorial) to leave a parking space. The opposite will also be true, participants without children will take less time to leave a parking space while the trend of increased territoriality because of intrusion remains for both scenarios. The importance in the exploration into the effect of children of territoriality and intrusion could lead to a more fruitful exploration into ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Carnegie Hall is a haven for Paul and gives him the classy atmosphere of the arts that he lacks in his life. He has an usher job at Carnegie Hall and unlike his house and school, Paul enjoys going there to work. He is able to escape and be with the rich and attractive people that come to the hall. It was at the theatre and at Carnegie Hall that Paul really lived; the rest was but a sleep and forgetting. The moment he inhaled the gassy, painty, dusty odour behind the scenes, he breathed like a prisoner set free, and felt within him the possibility of doing or saying splendid, brilliant, poetic things. The moment the cracked orchestra beat out the overture from Martha, or jerked at the serenade from Rigoletto, all the stupid and ugly things slid from him, and his senses were deliciously, yet delicately fired. (Cather 6) Paul enjoys the aesthetics of Carnegie Hall with all the people and atmosphere. While listening to the music he is able to leave his life behind and go off into another life and place that he dreams of. A lifelong dream of Paul occurs when he makes the trip to New York City. The trip to New York City gives Paul the opportunity to live the life he always dreamed of. • 7. Compare And Contrast Chillingworth And Heathcliff Both Chillingworth and Heathcliff are looking for revenge and are portrayed as evil and malice in their ways of doing so. Their revenge drives them. They make themselves insane for revenge, as they grow weak from wanting it so badly. Both Heathcliff and Chillingworth have had wrongs done to them, and these wrongs push both of the characters to the point that revenge becomes their entire life goal. In the Scarlet Letter, Chillingworth becomes so invested in his revenge that he becomes the minister s (Dimmesdale s) one trusted friend the person whom Mr. Dimmesdale confined all the fear, remorse, agony, ineffective repentance, and sinful thoughts he struggled to keep away. In Wuthering Heights, the character Heathcliff is quite passionately in love with Catherine Earnshaw/Linton. His love for her overpowers his life, his desire to live comes from her, and his need to get his revenge on her and the those who wronged him. Heathcliff wishes Catherine torment. He wants her to suffer always, but states he cannot live without her, and that she is his soul. Heathcliff s quote parallels to an earlier chapter in the narrative, when Catherine claimed to Nelly that her and Heathcliff are one in the same. He manages to wish her great pain while still mournful and distraught over the idea of her impending death. Heathcliff hates Catherine for what she did to him but at the same time is terribly in love with her. The idea that love and hatred are a matching pair is also seen in The Scarlet letter. The author compares the loss Roger Chillingworth feels after his greatest enemies dies, to one of a dead lover. The book concludes that both leave characters drained in the end. This is seen with Chillingworth. After Dimmesdale s death, there s no more devils work to do , so it is time for Chillingworth to return to his master (in hell through death). The SUV was completely wrecked and I didn t know the condition of the driver. My mom left to inspect the damage, while me and my brothers were sweating profusely in the summer heat, I cracked my door open to allow colder air to circulate. The sounds of speeding cars off the highway drowned out voices outside. I wanted to get out and get closer to the SUV, but I was afraid of being told to go back by CHP officers. • 11. Symptoms And Consequences Of Chickenpox Some diseases seem simple and commonplace, but people don t always fully understand how they are contracted or for how long they can spread them. Even those most seemingly harmless diseases can have consequences that lead to hospitalizations, later complications, and death. Education to the public on these diseases is important for preventing their continued spread. Some diseases could be nearly eradicated if people understood the usefulness of prevention techniques and how not to spread the disease if it is contracted. Chickenpox, also known as Varicella, is one of those diseases that seems like it is not a big deal, but could be for some people that are more vulnerable to its effects. The first thing that a person must understand with chickenpox is how it is transmitted and how contagious it is. Chickenpox is caused by a simple virus called the varicella zoster virus (VZV). It is spread from person to person fairly easily once it is contracted. Chickenpox is an extremely contagious disease among those who have never been vaccinated for chickenpox or have never had chickenpox before. It can spread simply by coughing, sneezing, breathing in virus particles, or touching the blisters of an infected person. Occasionally chickenpox can be caught from someone who has shingles as well, because shingles and chickenpox are both caused by VZV. One difficult feature of chickenpox is a person is contagious one to two days before blisters even appear, therefore at that point they are ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 12. Irony In The Emperor s New Clothes The literary element of irony is perfectly demonstrated in the short story, The Emperor s New Clothes. This tale opens by introducing a markedly vain emperor who is later fooled by a couple of con artists. The two tricksters convince the emperor that they can tailor an outfit so magnificent and extraordinary that it appears invisible to those ...who [are] too stupid or too incompetent to appreciate its quality (Anderson). The emperor, being intrigued, supplies the two men with many valuable materials and requests for them to fabricate such a suit for him. Unwilling to look idiotic or incompetent both the emperor and his subjects pretend to be enamored with the invisible, ostensibly beautiful, garment. Nearing the end of the story the emperor decides to adorn his outfit publically so all can appreciate his new clothes. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Lovecraft is a tale which preserves this fact. During the beginning of the second chapter in this five chapter short story, the main protagonist boards a bus commandeered by a malformed man with large feet, scaly skin, and unblinking blue eyes. As he makes his lone journey towards Innsmouth, the main character takes note of how increasingly empty and bleak the scenery becomes. He first does this by establishing a juxtaposition between the warm and sunny day with the desolate landscape around him (Lovecraft). Throughout this time period, the views have not stayed the same or consistent from one author to the next. There have been many different angles taken to this idea throughout these years. There have been many ideological shifts since historians have first started looking at this topic, one being the shift towards man. This idea that we are the center of everything and we should have our needs catered to. This idea can have an effect on how historians view this history, with many of the authors reviewed in this historiography viewed the main impact being the general public. Whether in a good or bad way, these historians felt that the public was in the middle of the influence. Though this is not disagreeing with that idea, that thought had an impact on this shifting ideology. The older sources tend to give the credit to either the Wright Brothers who actually invented flight, or the military or someone else specific. • 16. Hamlet Film Analysis Over the course of the past fifty years there have been many cinematic productions of Shakespeare s Hamlet, some of which remain true to the text while others take greater liberties from the original format. Director Kenneth Branagh s 1996 production of Hamlet was true to Shakespeare s work in that the films dialogue was delivered word or word as it is presented in the text. In contrast, Franco Zeffirelli conducted his 1990 production of Hamlet in a much more liberal direction in which lines, scenes and characters were omitted from film. I argue that from the perspective of an individual with moderate knowledge in Shakespearian literature, that the best film versions of Hamlet are those that take the most liberties from the text. I concur that the following elements reflect the level of liberty taken in regards to the text and that these elements determine which film is the best; changes to dialogue, changes to plot, presence of theme portrayal of emotions and the setting. In 1996 Kenneth Branagh starred as Hamlet in his self directed version of the play. Branagh s script for the film was fiercely loyal to Shakespeare s original words which resulted in a four hour cinematic experience. The immense amount of dialogue was delivered rapidly and added a layer of complexity which effected the audience s ability to analyze and comprehend the story line. Provide examples to illustrate your discussion. a. Aspect: Aspect grammatical category of verbs denotes the flow of time related to the event they express. Unlike tense that is semantically rather related to the event in time, aspect is about time moving through the event (Riemer 314). The difference between, for example, I walked and I was walking is in our view of the two events, the first as an event that happened in a certain point in the past while the second viewed with an emphasis on the temporal sense of the event over which it happened. Distinctions can be made between perfective and imperfective aspect. The marking of the two and appearance is different among languages. For example, Mandarin Chinese offers two perfective markers; le and guo. However, in English, perfective aspect forms are those verbs in the simple form like read, ate, walk... and imperfective forms are progressive forms such as am walking, was reading, were eating... It is crucial to understand that the completion or duration of the event does not distinguish between perfective and imperfective aspect because both can be expressed by either form. For, example, the use of struggled in the sentence Ali struggled during his fourth round clearly shows that the perfective form can be used to express an event that happened over a period of time. there is also ... • 23. The Aging Process For The Older Adults Essay Successful Aging Paper Albatul Albulayhi University of the Incarnate Word Successful Aging Paper Aging is inevitable; as people age in the second half of life, the body often faces some challenges mentally and physically. Aging was defined by Robert Arking (1998), as a Time dependent series of cumulative, progressive, intrinsic, and harmful changes that begin to manifest at reproductive maturity and eventually end in death (p. 520). The aging process for the older adults is influenced by many aspects, including socioeconomic status, age, education, and scale of physical and cognitive functioning. As people get older, their financial status, security, health, employment, productivity, and independence are all significant parts of the process. Some older adults experience illnesses that come with aging, and the illnesses do not distinguish by culture or religion. Friendships that have grown up throughout the years are a significant aspect of aging well, although for some older people it becomes difficult to keep in touch with friends, family, society, or other loved ones. Financial status may become limited as a person ages. Successful aging is one of the most significant ideas in gerontology (Katz Calasanti, 2015). Utilized as a model, a concept, an approach, an experience, and an outcome, it has inspired investigators to create related terms such as healthy, positive, active, productive, and effective aging (Katz Calasanti, 2015). • 24. The Basic Buddhist Teachings Explain the basic Buddhist teachings including the Three Marks of Reality, the Four Noble Truths, and the Noble Eightfold Path. The Three Marks of Reality denote the nature of human existence: the reality of suffering (which does not mean the presence of sorrow, but rather the existence of a constantly changing world where neither extreme happiness nor misery is stable); the impermanent nature of all things, including human existence; and finally egolessness or the notion that there is no stable, human self (O Brien, 2012, Three Marks). The Three Marks of Reality relate directly to the Four Noble Truths, the first tenant of which is that there is suffering in the world, and the second of which is that there is a cause of suffering: suffering caused by the false conception that there is a stable human ego. The third noble truth is that there is an end to suffering, and the fourth is that the end to suffering can be achieved by following the Eightfold Path (O Brien, 2012, Four Noble Truths). The Eightfold Path is divided into three basic sections: that of wisdom, ethical conduct, and mental discipline. Right view and right intention means understanding what the Buddha taught and striving to follow the path for the right reasons. Right speech, action, and livelihood mean acting in a beneficial manner towards others. Right effort, mindfulness and concentration require the practitioner to discipline him or herself with meditation (O Brien, 2012, Eightfold Path). Amongst all ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

As a playwright, Shakespeare used Aristotle s guidelines to tragedy when writing Othello. This is because he applied the Poetics guidelines to complex plot, the tragic hero, and the establishment of pity, fear, and catharsis of the audience s emotions. The complex plot follows Othello and his transformation from nobleman to monster through the exploitation of his tragic flaw. Impact of OPEC s Oil Pricing on the Petroleum Market Energy resources are essential for national security, technological development, overall contemporary life style, etc. In this respect, oil is the main source for worldwide economy. Peak oil would imbalance countries economical situations and may lead to a chain reaction with negative effects on multiple layers. Evidently, there is mutual interest to prevent such a thing from happening but the possibility is nevertheless considered. OPEC s initial goal to ensure stable prices on petroleum markets in order to avoid any negative fluctuations did not always correspond. The organization actually favored inflation more than in one occasion but its influence in controlling oil prices dropped considerably since 1973. It was proven that, having quadrupled the price of oil, OPEC had in its hands the power to inflict economic hurt on the rich countries. (Beenstock 2007, p. 134) Although OPEC does not completely control the oil market today, it nevertheless continues to be influent because its decisions to reduce production may lead to either a decrease or increase of oil prices. OPEC s existence is dependent on the future of oil. Whether or not oil will dominate as the main energetic source for worldwide economy will decide its future. Considering that OPEC s oil has been a vital source of energy during the last half of century, (Khusanjanova 2011, p. 19) and that oil is expected to play a similar role within the next century, we can assume the organization will at least maintain its ... • 32. Unforgettable Miss Bessie Analysis 1. Early in the essay, Carl T. Rowan describes Miss Bessie as five feet tall and no more than 110 pounds. While explaining how she doesn t seem physically threatening, Rowan notes she had a towering presence in the classroom. She was the only woman tough enough to make me read Beowulf (411). Rowan s resistance towards reading Beowulf led to him learning about Miss Bessie s large brown eyes, that resembled daggerish slits (411). Rowan describes his former teacher in a way that resembles someone who is looking up to an authoritative figure. Whenever he comments on her appearance or personality, it he does in a very respectful context. Just by the way Rowan often talks about Miss Bessie, it s obvious the amount of respect and admiration he has ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In the essay Unforgettable Miss Bessie, the author Carl. T. Rowan doesn t share the details about Miss Bessie s background until the ninth paragraph of his writing. I believe he did this so that while he described what she was like as an individual, you could paint your own picture of her before you found out what made her that way. When taking into consideration her role in society as a teacher, it was fascinating to hear that she attended a school that was originally for black people. During the time period in which Miss Bessie was getting her education, many places didn t even have schools that people with dark skin could attend. Another reason Rowan may have waited to explain Miss Bessie s background early on, is because it helped the reader understand why she was so tough on Carl and his education. Bessie knew many of the struggles African Americans could face if they didn t focus on school and the right things, so she did everything in her power to put him on the right track. The first time you hear of Mrs. Bessie s background it will surprise you, but when looking at how she taught and worked with students, it s not surprising that she become such a special teacher because of her unique schooling and ... • 33. Charles Robert Darwin s Life and Accomplishments Charles Robert Darwin was an English naturalist who was born in Shrewsbury, England on February 12, 1809. He was the second youngest of six children. Before Charles Darwin, there were many scientists throughout his family. His father, Dr. Robert Darwin, was a medical doctor, and his grandfather, Dr. Erasmus Darwin, was a well known botanist. Darwin s mother, Susannah Darwin, died when he was only eight years old. Darwin was a child that came from wealth and privilege and who loved to explore nature. In October 1825 at age sixteen, Darwin enrolled at Edinburgh University with his brother Erasmus. Two years later, Charles became a student at Christ s College in Cambridge. His father wanted him to become a medical doctor, as he was, but since ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Darwin believed all plants and animals had changed from past families by natural selection. An example of natural selection would be the different coloration between beetles (Understanding Evolution, 2008). There are two different colored beetles, one is brown and the other is green. Since the environment cannot have an overpopulation, the green beetles will get consumed by birds and not be able to survive and reproduce as much as the brown beetles. The brown beetles have offspring because the trait has a genetic basis. When they produce more offspring, they become more common in the environment and if this process continues, the population of beetles will be mostly brown. Certain characteristics are innate within a species which help them reproduce and survive more than other species with no such inborn characteristics. These species will become more favorable and most common in the population. Darwin s theory of natural selection favors organisms that are prone to adapting well to the environment, it makes it easy to pass on their genes stabilizing the population and making it stronger. Species begin to die out according to, what Darwin calls, survival of the fittest. Darwin s Survival of the Fittest theory is a natural process resulting in the development of a species best adapted to the environment. This is when the species only the species that are best adapted the environment and its conditions are able to survive and reproduce. If they are not ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 34. Deaf Culture Vs Deaf People It is known that hearing people are superior to Deaf people. No one can sit and prove it, but you can tell how a hearing person acts compared to how a deaf person acts when they walk into a room. The hearing people are chit chatting and enjoying their time. The deaf person is looking around trying to read lips but deep down is feeling isolated. Most Deaf people understand that they are equal to hearing people and should not feel discriminated against. Deaf people sometimes still get treated different, but most of the world is starting to treat them equally. They have been able to get more employment, higher education, and higher job positions. In Bernard Bragg s book, Lessons in Laughter: The Autobiography of a Deaf Actor , he expressed ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Come to find out three years later, Silver was just jealous of Braggs accomplishments. Another thing I learned about Deaf Culture is that since the Deaf community is usually small in a town, the Deaf people usually keep up with each other. When Braggs asked about Silver, no one knew where he was after graduation. At Gallaudet, Braggs had ended up going to the prom with Ruth. His friends joked with him that he was going with her. Then he ended up being glad he went with her once he had a good time at prom and she expressed how she was to be blind along with being deaf in six months. Braggs was not always just all play; he did a load of work as well. Jobs are more fun when people enjoy them instead of going just for the money. Braggs was a typical man in changing his mind about what he wanted to do. In the beginning of this book, he is working so hard on the set of a television show that he forgets his birthday was coming up. He became a teacher after he graduated at Gallaudet. So glad that he finally graduated, he goes to rub it in his father s face that he got an education. He ends up going to an empty theatre where Marceau was there and saw his acting skills. Marceau then invited him to France to act with his troupe. No one in France knew about Deaf Culture, so they did not understand his breathing and made him work on it for the play. This book was surprisingly amazing. I tried to put myself in a deaf person s shoes ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 35. Imagery in Macbeth Essay Imagery in Macbeth Shakespeare s powerful imagery has never been more apparent than in Macbeth. He begins the play with a startling image of three witches chanting in a furious thunderstorm, Fair is foul, and foul is fair. Hover through the fog and filthy air (1.1.10 11). The eerie chanting creates a dark, mysterious tone that leaves the reader feeling uncomfortable and expecting odd and evil things to happen. Later, when Macbeth and Banquo come across the three weird sisters, the underlying evil creeps back up when Macbeth says, So foul and fair a day I have not seen, and Banquo comments, What are these So withered, and so wild in their attire, That look not like the inhabitants o th earth ... Lady Macbeth does not seem to share her husband s anxiety, but it continues to show when he says, How is t with me that every noise appalls me?...Will all great Neptune s ocean wash this blood Clean from my hand? No; this my hand will rather The multitudinous seas incarnadine (2.3.57,59 61). The image of him on his knees agonizing over his actions strikes hard and clear and the tone is one of remorse and a wishing for a chance to change the past. The act ends with a feeling of uneasiness as Malcolm and Donalbain leave the country, and Ross and Macduff converse about the old king s death and the crowning of Macbeth. Macduff says, Well, may you see things well done there. Adieu, Lest our old robes sit easier than our new! (2.4.37 38). The
  • 36. image of concern for the future and the implied uneasiness hints that not all is well in Scotland. The somber, remorseful, and uneasy tones are effective in sending the reader on an emotional roller coaster with the characters and changing the reader s feelings from about each character based on how they respond to the tone. For instance, Lady Macbeth becomes the most hated person in the play due to her complete insensitivity and all around disregard for human life. She stands out against a background of subjects mourning their king. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 37. Essay Dead Sea Scrolls Dead Sea Scrolls The Dead Sea Scrolls are a group of 800 900 manuscripts found in caves at Qumran east of Jerusalem and north west of the Dead Sea. The first scrolls were discovered in 1947 by a shepherd boy who wandered into a cave after a stray goat. The texts are believed to have been hidden in eleven caves for safe keeping prior to the destruction of Rome in A.D.70. The scrolls are a collection of biblical and non biblical documents comprising of the Hebrew Bible, (every book except Esther); the Apocrypha and Pseudepigrapha; rules for community life; biblical commentaries; a Testimonia, (a collection of verses from the Bible about the Messiah); a War Scroll; Temple Scroll; poetic and liturgical pieces; Thanksgiving Hymns; wisdom ... The texts are believed to have been written by a strict Jewish sect called the Essenes. This religious community led by one they called the Teacher of Righteousness lived a demanding routine of self discipline. Their interpretation of the law was severe, they held fellowship meals to which admission was closely guarded. They interpreted prophetic scripture as referring to events of their own day and believed that they had an important part to play in the hope of Israel. 2 HOW MUCH CAN THEY HELP US UNDERSTAND THE NEW TESTAMENT? The dead sea scrolls offer unique information from a time during the second temple period when Jewish religious and political life in Palestine was full of corruption and conflict. There were three main Jewish groups during this time; the Pharisees, the Sadducees and the Essenes. It has also been confirmed that there were many other groups and movements in Secondary Temple Judaism. It is now evident that Judaism in the land of Israel was open to Greek influences from the 3rd century onwards in the areas of language, economics, military strategy, politics, culture and religion .3 The scrolls shed light on the time when Jesus and John the Baptist lived and the beliefs of the early Christians.
