Not Human Beings By Shmulik Stein Character Analysis
In the story Not Human Beings , by Etgar Keret, Shmulik Stein is portrayed as, the bleeding heart
throughout much of the story. In the beginning of the story, Stein s character seems to be petulant.
When his commander Davidoff, is distracted by the Border Police Officer, taking him away from their
game of backgammon, he makes a sarcastic threat about volunteering to go with the personnel officer
if Davidoff doesn t shoot the fucking dice. (752) Soon after Stein finds himself selected to spend a
week with the Border Police. The first day he spends with them riding around in jeeps, one of the
fellow officer s in a nearby jeep purposely runs over an Arab that was walking down the road, Stein
seems to be perplexed about the thoughtless act

As a young boy, Cornelius Vanderbilt worked on ferries in New York City, quitting school at age 11.

1813, Cornelius Vanderbilt married his cousin and neighbour, Sophia Johnson (1795 1868), daughter
of his mother s sister. He and his wife had thirteen children one of which, a boy, died young. By 1830,
Vanderbilt s business had expanded to the Hudson River. Soon he controlled coastal trade along the

Hillary Clinton Twitter Comparison
Throughout the course of time, politicians have used the media to promote their platform. Now, in this
modern age, Twitter has proved to be a dominant platform for presidential candidates. But who are
these two rival politicians, how do they campaign, and who outperforms the other?
The two candidates are Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump. Hillary Clinton is the democratic nominee,
she is the former Secretary of State under the Obama Administration. Donald Trump is the republican
nominee. a successful american businessman. Both actively campaign for their position in the white
house. While they both use Twitter, neither campaign exactly as the other.

I believe Hillary is more adept at establishing credibility, with her use of retweeting thoughts, but
Trump s pathos is certainly stronger than Hillary s. Both flounder in the face of Logos, although given
the medium, Logos is rather difficult to use. Trump does promote himself using twitter, through
Hashtags for topics, but Hillary succeeds at using twitter to it s fullest as she also retweets. With this in
mind, I would give the name of better rhetorician to Hillary.

The Importance Education Has on Life Essay
Education has tremendous effects that can determine how nice a person s life will be and the job that
he will receive. It can decide what one will do for the rest of his life, and it can determine how one
will live our life. Good education does not come easy though. One must go through struggles in order
to obtain it. People spend years to get the degree that they want. Douglass s struggles were much
worse than the struggles we endure today. The fact that Douglass was a slave greatly hurt his chances
of acquiring an education. Since he was a slave, it was illegal and dangerous for people to teach him
how to read and write because they could get in trouble with the law. Slaveholders and masters feared
educated slaves. An educated slave ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Douglass wanted to be able to read and write so he could write about his life as a slave and his escape
from slavery to freedom. Douglass became a great speaker and writer. He wanted to open the eyes of
the nation to the cruelty of slavery. Douglass became an avid abolitionist and got arrested later on in
his life for speaking against slavery. Richard LaGravenese s movie freedom writers displayed some of
the modern hardships students go through to receive an education. The most prevalent hardship that is
seen today is racial intolerance. Students today do not know how to tolerate other races and are not
willing to tolerate other races. Mrs. Gruwell intended to teach her students how to tolerate and accept
different races She taught them that appearance does not make one person better than the other person.
High school students are caught up in the popularity hype. In the movie, the way to gain popularity
and respect is to fight people from other races. They think that they gain a lot from beating someone
up. Unfortunately, not many people will stand up for what is right because they do not want to get
ridiculed. In order to make a change you have to be willing to stick out. Mrs. Gruwell was willing to
stand out for her cause so she could make a change and to fix the problem. She was persistent. No

Whenever any business jump into the international market, first know what is the basic needs of

The Importance of the Main Ingredients of the Montessori...
The importance of the main ingredients of the Montessori method : the directress and the prepared
environment Motto: The teacher as an adult should try to interpret the child s needs and meet them as
best as he can by preparing a really suitable environment. This may be the beginning of a new epoch
in education, which will consider how it can assist the life of the child. (Montessori, M., The Secret of
Childhood, Part1, Chapter IV: Where adults impede the question of sleep, 1963, p.79). The child in the
Montessori school needs the best conditions for his development and for achieving this, he needs a

For example, I ve noticed that at the Montessori school where I did my work experience the children
interacted repeatedly with the environment by using the Montessori materials: Dressing frames or
Pink Tower and this interaction lasted longer than the directress child one, because once the child has
been introduced to the Montessori materials he will learn as his nature dictates and he will know how
to do the Montessori activities without being in need of the directress. The prepared environment has
three components: one physical that is represented by the child sized furniture and the Montessori
materials, another intellectual created with the help of the directress who designs the perfect climate
for the child to work and develop himself and another one spiritual offering the child patterns of
spiritual behaviour through the genuine example given by the directress.( I ve noticed at the
Montessori school, in the pre school classroom that every time the directress was praying before the
snack time, the children took her example and did the same). The directress is the one who plans the
way in which the environment has to be prepared for the children, according to the child s each
activity and to the materials required for each exercise; the things regarding the planning of the
environment have to move from the directress to the child: e.g. I ve seen at the Montessori School
where I did my work experience that the directress provided good quality and easy

Benefits of Learining through Play
Before exploring the benefits of learning through play, it is important to gain an understanding of what
play is. It is difficult to define exactly what play is. Play can vary amongst different types of activities,
social contexts, and also age groups. Free, imaginative play is vital for normal social, emotional and
cognitive development. Play is important for children s learning as it helps them to become socially
adept, managing with stress and developing cognitive skills such as problem solving. Through play
children explore social, material and imaginary worlds and their relationship with them. There are
many different reasons why children play, sometimes they are discovering or learning new things.
Play can be a way of building or strengthening relationships with either other children or adults.
Children more often play simply for the fun and enjoyment it offers them. Many theorists have tried to
make a concrete definition of what play is. Play has been defined as a dynamic process that develops
and changes as it becomes progressively more varied and complex. Play is considered a crucial
facilitator for learning and development, and reflects the social and cultural contexts in which children
live (Christie, 2001) According to Piaget (1969), play is a way for children to combine experiences,
knowledge and understanding. Vygotsky (1966) stated that play was a vehicle for a child behaving
more maturely than at other times. In fantasy play he believed that children can

An Analysis Of Charles Hatfield s The Smartest Kid On...
Charles Hatfield s essay, An Art of Tensions, that comics are marked as being easy to read, when in
fact they are a complex means of communication. Comic readers must call upon different reading
strategies, or interpretive schema, than they would use in their reading of conventional written text.
Chris Ware is often noted as a cartoonist who elevates comics because of the number of literary
awards his work has received. Ware got his start in the 1991 in RAW Magazine, continuing his work
in his series Acme Novelty Library. One of his most notable comics is Jimmy Corrigan: the Smartest
Kid on Earth. Readers learn to appreciate his comics on a higher level because they cannot rush
through his work. It s complexity is a result of his use of text, diagrams, and pacing. Comic readers
value Ware s artistry because they have to work for understanding.
Readers appreciate Chris Ware s work because it s complexity causes the reader to slow down to
absorb the information given to them. This is largely due to the pace of the comics. Hatfield says that
the author s task is to give the reader an imagined sequence and it s the reader s job is to translate the
series into a narrative sequence by achieving closure. The author must develop a rhythm for the reader
to follow. So that when they break the rhythm with a single image to give them a key piece of
information it has impact. When Jimmy meets his father at the airport, a collection of small and
medium panels composes the moments

The Effect Of Osmosis On The Rate Of Osmosis
The reasoning behind this experiment is the examine whether the rate of osmosis is changed due to a
change in temperature. It was hypothesized that the rate of osmosis will increase as the temperature of
the sucrose is increased. The rate of osmosis was tested by using the different jars full of different
temperate water and testing how high the water rose on an osmometer over a span of 20 minutes. An
osmometer is a tool used to measure rates of osmosis. The different temperatures tested on a sucrose
solution were 5 degrees Celsius, 20 degrees Celsius, and 37 degrees Celsius. Rates of osmosis were
higher in the hot water than in the cold water and control. The results showed that the rate of osmosis
increased as the temperature increased, henceforth the hypothesis was supported. In conclusion, the
experiment showed how changes in temperature affect the rate of osmosis.
Introduction: Osmosis is a process in which molecules in a solvent pass across a semipermeable
membrane into a more concentrated solution from a less concentrated one, attempting to make both
sides isotonic or equal to each other. Isotonic can also be described as an equilibrium, where there is
no net movement of the molecules. Osmosis is relevant in everyday life whether the general
population is aware of it or not. It could be as simple as sitting in the pool too long and getting pruney
fingers or as complex as a cholera infection in the intestinal cells that does not allow the intestinal
cells

How Does The Endocrine System Maintain Homeostasis
Lauryn Varga 03 17 17 1B
The Endocrine System is important because it maintains homeostasis. It secretes hormones into the
bloodstream which helps the body in growth and reproduction. The endocrine system maintains
homeostasis by releasing hormones which affect how the body works and functions. Homeostasis is
maintaining the body s natural state and keeping hormonal levels constant and stable. The endocrine
system is a group of glands including the pituitary, thyroid, parathyroid, thymus, testes, ovaries,
adrenal, pancreas, and hypothalamus. The endocrine system interacts with the urinary, nervous,
digestive, and reproductive system, each in different ways. The nervous and endocrine system interact

Calpurnia Motherly Figure
Second of all, I will be evaluating whether Calpurnia or Aunt Alexandra is a better motherly figure for
the two children. To start, Calpurnia is a good motherly figure. Firstly, she took the children to church
on Sunday when Atticus was not home to do so. In the reading it says, How d you and Mister Jem like
to come to church with me tomorrow? (Lee 156). Calpurnia did not only take them to church, but took
them to an African American church, giving the children a new perspective on how life for some
people is, teaching them both the valuable lesson of walking in somebody else s shoes which is also a
major theme in the book. Secondly, Scout found Calpurnia to be good company when Jem decided to
act independent and not spend time with her ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
We d be glad to have you (Lee 168). To continue, Aunt Alexandra is not as good or a motherly figure.
Firstly, Aunt Alexandra is rude to Calpurnia. In the novel, the first sentence she says to Calpurnia is,
Put my bag in the front bedroom, Calpurnia (Lee 169). Calpurnia is the family cook, not a servant, and
she is also an African American woman. Aunt Alexandra being rude to a black woman could be a bad
influence for the children in the future, where they might think that it is okay to be rude to them
because Aunt Alexandra did it. Secondly, she fights with their father on multiple occasions throughout
the chapters. One example from the reading is, Alexandra, Calpurnia s not leaving this house until she
wants to. You may think otherwise, but I could not have got along without her all these years... If
anything, she s been harder on them in some ways than a mother would have been (Lee 182, 183).
Considering the fact that the children prefer their dad as a parent over Aunt Alexandra, it is inferred
that they would take Atticus side in the argument because they also love Calpurnia, and if Aunt
Alexandra were to take somebody they loved out of their lives, that would make the children hate her

One Hundred Years of Solitude by Gabriel García Márquez
Shortly following its creation, Macondo is introduced to its decline into destruction that continues for
the majority of the novel. Macondo s corruption and finally destruction is the result of its corruption of
innocence from technology and modernization which both stem from pursued knowledge. This is
another biblical allusion that serves as important evidence for Marquez s theme. This begins with the
introduction of outside institutions that end up creating more problems then benefits, starting with the
gypsies. The gypsies arrive in Macondo with seemingly wonderful new innovations: magnets,
telescopes, and magnifying glasses. They are led by a man named Melquiades, who inspires José
Arcadio Buendía s thirst for knowledge and, even after dying, returns to tempt other generations of
Buendías. Although a hidden antagonist, Melquiades is the one who brings the temptation of
knowledge into the Buendia household and Macondo itself. He inspires Jose Arcadio Buendia to
dedicate his life to knowledge and scientific progress. From a religious perspective, this leads the
reader to view Melquiades as the archetype of the devil luring the protagonist into sin. In the bible, it
was the devil that was disguised as a snake and tempted Adam and Eve, which resulted in the loss of
paradise and the beginning of sin on Earth. This act also resulted in the concept of original Sin which
is the biblical doctrine that all of Adams children (humanity) will bear his sin. This is highly apparent

Elastigirl Research Paper
Elastigirl is a very well known superhero in the movie, The Incredibles. She has the flexibility
superpower, and she can stretch any part of her body up to 100 (30 m) and to a minimum thickness of
1 mm, and mold it into several shapes and sizes as well. Elastigirl also has the superpower of
invulnerability, meaning she can withstand large amounts of pain and discomfort. It is mind boggling
to think about how Elastigirl has these superpowers that she possesses. The only answer to this is
biology. Elastigirl has an evolved extraordinary body system, giving her the ability to do these
extraordinary things. Flexibility is the ability to stretch a joint to the limit of its range of movement.
Unlike Elastigirl, humans have internal limitations ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For example, some joints in humans simply are not meant to be flexible, there is internal resistance
within a joint, there are bony structures which limit movement, the elasticity of muscle tissue differs
and muscle tissue that is scarred due to a previous injury is not very elastic. Also, the elasticity of
tendons and ligaments is very limited. Ligaments do not stretch much and tendons should not stretch
at all. The elasticity of skin actually has some degree of elasticity, but not much. Also, the temperature
of the joint and associated tissues are musically more flexible at body temperatures that are 1 to 2
degrees higher than normal. Unlike normal humans, Elastigirl has an evolved extraordinary body
system. There are many biological difficulties that Elastigirl would encounter if she did not have this
body system, which would hindering her flexibility. As previously stated, she would encounter many
issues involving her joints, bony structures, muscle elasticity, tendons, ligaments, and skin that would
limit her range of motion and flexibility. There are a few biological findings that can explain how
Elastigirl has these abilities. For example, Elastigirl s skin is very stretchy. Collagen is a form

Reflection On Final Reflection
Final Reflection Essay
I thought this class would be easier than it ended up being. You warned us of this on the first day of
class, and you were certainly right. Fortunately, this resulted in me actually improving my public
speaking skills, which I will certainly need as I go through my career. Most of the public speaking I d
done before this class involved one on one, pitch style speaking. This one done at robotics
competitions trying to present our project to judges. While this was certainly useful experience, it was
very on the fly. It did not prepare me for this class I well as I thought it would. The class succeeded at
its goal of making me improve my public speaking skills, and this improvement happened in three
main areas; my engagement with the audience, my anxiety, and my understanding of an outline. Given
these improvements, I feel much better prepared to handle public speaking experiences I will have in
the future.
One thing I really noticed I improved was my engagement with the audience. These two facets of
speaking are clearly related, and they both improved for me over the course of the semester. For one
of my early speeches, I got the feedback that the only person I made eye contact with was you for the
entire speech. I was making an attempt at engaging with the audience, but I clearly failed. Noting this,
it was something I tried especially hard to make sure I improved for my following speeches. It was at
first awkward to manually move my head around the room without looking mechanical, but as I did it
more and more it became natural. In my earlier speeches, you also noted that my speech pattern was
very one note, and I believe I made progress on fixing this as the year went on. The other aspect that
helped me improve in this area was reducing my speaking anxiety.
The was the biggest thing that improved during this class. We were told that the only way to get over
speech anxiety was to simply speak more, and doing that surely helped. I definitely was falling into
the perfectionist trap at first, especially because of my stutter. Being willing to accept that I m going to
make mistakes was an important part about getting through the speeches. Your advice about not
stopping every time I made a

The Relationship Between Phonology And Morphology
3. The relationship between Phonology and Morphology.
The relation between the distribution of phonemes and grammatical units such as morphemes and
words is therefore an aspect of the interface between Phonology and morphology. Both Phonology and
Morphology study various patterns in languages all over the world. Considering the similarities of
these fields, both are engaged in the scientific analysis of languages. Both are sub branches of
Linguistics and without studying Phonology, one cannot move on to Morphology. There is an inter
relationship between these subjects. For differences, we can identify that Phonology mainly
concentrates on sound systems of a language while Morphology pays attention to the word and the
morphemes of a language. (Booij, 2007)
Then, in general, the interaction between phonology and morphology can be illustrated into at least
four points:
1 Phonological rules may precede the morphological rules. Therefore, phonemes are considered to be
the basic units of speech sound by which morphemes are represented. According to Kiparsky (1985),
there are two common word internal phonological domains, level 1 or the stem level, ... Show more

purely phonological realization would most likely assign to these three ending phonemic
representations /s/, /z/ or /ɪz/. On a morphophonological level, however, they may all be considered
forms of the underlying object //z//, which is a morphophoneme. The different forms it takes depend
on the segment at the end of the morpheme to which it attaches: the dependencies are described by
morphophonological rules. The behaviour of the English past tense ending ed is similar, it can be

Stock Market and Firm Essay
Background
The Blackstone Group (Blackstone) is a private equity firm founded in 1985 by two former employees
of Lehman Brothers. In May 2007 the firm had $88.4 billion under management and had grown 41%
annually since 2001.
The firm operated in several business groups but distinguished itself from other firms by extensive
collaboration across divisions. It was divided into Corporate Private Equity, Real Estate Funds,
Marketable Alternative Asset Management, Corporate Debt Funds, and Advisory Services.
In 2007 Blackstone started to evaluate the option of taking the firm public. Reasons why the firm

Third, to further smooth out potential fluctuations in the share price the firm guarantees a dividend
during the first years after listing.
The fact that the stock market tends to be short term focused further shows the importance of having
the MLP structure. To maintain the long term focus on investments the firm needs to separate the
governance of the firm from the shareholders and the limited voting rights will ensure this.
2. If you were a limited partner in Blackstone, how would you view the structure Blackstone has put
in place to go public?
As a limited partner in Blackstone I would consider the structure as chosen to ensure my interests.
Given the fact that the firm chose to go public for the opportunities that a listing brings, it seems to be
the best way of doing it.
I would be most worried about that the firm would try too much to stabilize the share price and fulfil
the interest of the shareholders by focusing on short term profits. Many of the limited partners in a
private equity fund are pensions funds or similar and do not mind to lock their money over a longer
time period and, by doing so, seek the long term profit that the private equity firm can offer. I will
highlight the two things that make me confident that my interests as a limited partner will be
maintained with the structure that the firm is implementing. First, the structure allows

Energy Deregulation Essay
What is energy deregulation? Energy deregulation is the breakup of the utility monopoly in 35 states.
Currently only 11 states allow full deregulation which allows consumers and businesses to choose
their own electricity and gas providers. Energy deregulation is very similar to the AT T divestiture
back in 1984. Consumers businesses were bound to AT T for their local and long distance services
regardless of cost. The break up of AT T to Bell companies allow consumers to choose providers such
as MCI, Sprint, and other telecommunication companies which allowed increased competition.
Energy deregulation will do the same; however the PUC (Public Utilities Commission) of each given
state is cautious of the breakup to prevent another Enron catastrophe. Also consumers need to make
sure what agreement they sign as contracts are usually determined by fixed and variable rates. Also do
not confuse energy deregulation with alternative energy or renewable energy, energy deregulation
simply means shopping for electricity gas services through the open market.
Energy deregulation has been adopted by many states over the past several years as a way to allow for
multiple energy providers to compete for customers based on price and a higher level of customer

Ap Us History Dbq Analysis
Throughout the American History, Americans had constantly settled on agreements on how slavery
should be treated. In the early 19th century, the government had settled on compromises like the
compromise of 1850 and the Missouri compromise. Which gave out a fair equivalence of
opportunities and downgrades for each side, but by 1860 this had no longer seemed possible for each
side, they constantly had conflicts that the South decided to separate. The reasons on which they
decided to seperate were due to the country having different ideology views on slavery, to the

Traditional Families In The United States
American households have never been so diverse. As a result of these changes, there is no longer one
dominant family form in the U.S. Parents today are raising their children against a situation of
increasingly diverse and, for most, constantly evolving family values. The idea of the modern family
has evolved over the years because of the financial crisis which has caused both parents to look for
work, parents are no longer staying together, and same sex couples are presently able to start a family
of their own. The financial crisis has shaped the original ideologies of old typical American families.
This is because families nowadays don t have the means to support a bustling household of children
and the trending rate of stay at home parents has dropped significantly. Now both parents must
maintain a full time position just to provide for their children. For example In the 1950 s 65 percent of
all children under 15 were being raised in traditional breadwinner homemaker families. Today only 22
percent are. Over the last ten years, the average household debt has increased; Americans have needed
to make great cuts ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As of 22 July 2016 same sex marriage was made legal. As many as 2 million to 3.7 million U.S.
children under the age 18 may have a lesbian, gay, bisexual, or transgender parent, and about 200,000
are being raised by same sex couples. This shows that parents are no longer just a man and women.
But its more than that, these same sex couples have also impacted the economy for example,
California calculated that over 50,000 gay couples in the state were expected to spend about $400
million, along with $31 million in local tax revenue. The wedding industry in the U.S. is estimated to
be worth over $51 billion. This means that with these new married couples coming in to play it will
also trigger a change in the economic downturn. This also implies that the typical modern family is

A Streetcar Named Desire, Literary Analysis Essay
A Streetcar Named Desire by Tennessee Williams Stella has embraced him with both arms, fiercely,
and full in the view of Blanche. He laughs and clasps her head to him. Over her head he grins through
the curtains at Blanche. (Williams 73) A Streetcar Named Desire written by Tennessee Williams
exemplifies the theme of a struggle to attain happiness. The play not only portrays this theme in its
characters and setting, but through the literary devices of Foil, Imagery, and Intertextuality. Williams
took great care in applying each of these literary device techniques to the theme as he presents an
intriguing contrast between Blanche and Stanley, vivid images both animalistic and broken, and

The low moans of the clarinet and the blue piano all portray the image of what an animal would do.
(Williams 129) Another form of imagery in the play is broken images. There is the broken mirror and
Mitch tearing the lamp. There is also Blanche s husband Hickey killing himself. There is also the loss
of the baby which is a broken part of the story. Intertextuality is the shaping of texts meanings by
other texts. Williams uses this literary device by referring to Book Nine of the Odyssey. Blanche is
equal to deception. She is always flirting with some man especially Stanley. Anytime she gets the
chance while Stella is out of the room. Blanche is like Odysseus because she is very well aware of her
deceptive truths. She uses them to manipulate in situations. She blinds Stanley by her deceptive ways.
Intertextuality is also used in the image of Cyclopes. Stanley portrays the image of Cyclopes. He is
also referred to as One eye monster, in the play. He is referred to this character because of his strong
will and physically strong, but he falls easily into Blanche s trap of being blinded. Although there are
many other literary devices that are used throughout A Streetcar Named Desire these devices work
together in unison to thoroughly express the theme in their struggle to attain happiness. Though they
try very hard the happiness is never really gained. These literary devices are used to create an

Identity In Maxine Hong Kingston s The Warrior Woman
Identity is a complex structure, however while complex and seemingly structured, it can also be very
fluid. Identity is a prominent factor in not only how we represent ourselves to others, but also how we
view ourselves. Not solidifying how you see yourself can be a long, tormenting process filled with
doubt, conflict, and misunderstanding, however once you know yourself, a calming, peaceful, and
fulfilling feeling comes over you like a rainbow after a thunderstorm. In Maxine Hong Kingston s
memoir, The Warrior Woman, she endures the process of defining herself over a series of stories, not
all of which are hers, and ultimately, comes to a conclusion about what her identity really is. Through
becoming a background character, participating in anti cultural behaviors, and adding her own crucial
embellishments throughout her mother s stories, Kingston navigates her own selfness and pieces
together a fluid, yet satisfying identity as a storyteller, based on the identities of others. Kingston shifts
the traditional autobiographical center of I off balance and often makes the narrator almost a
background character. In her memoir, she tells the audience about herself via embellishments on
stories from her mother about other people, in conjunction with some stories of Kingston s own life.
This method of sharing her personal journey with the audience tells a lot about her internal struggle
between following traditional Chinese ideologies, or conforming to the latter half of the

Examples Of Manipulation In The Knife Of Never Letting Go
People are seduced by signals from the world, but that is manipulation, not reality. Douglas Rushkoff.
The world is full of manipulation and probably will never change. We are constantly seduced by what
others say, and believe what they do. Well, this situation also applies to the book I read, The Knife Of
Never Letting Go by Patrick Ness. This story is set in Prentisstown, a small section of the New World.
The Old World has become difficult to live in, and people started moving to a New World. Sounds
weird and unusual, but it s okay for now. Right? Well, things start getting more peculiar, when we find
out that all women were killed by disease, and only men live in Prentisstown. What gets more
unusual, is that men can hear each other s thoughts! However, things start changing when we find out
that women were not killed by the spackles, and the men and boys were manipulated to follow what
their leader says or do. In my opinion, I think that the theme of this story is that the world is full of ...

Introduction
Smoking tobacco cigarettes has been recognized as the leading cause of lung cancer and other health
related illnesses in the developed world. But there is a new emergence of electronic cigarettes, which
can deliver nicotine without the vast range of carcinogens and toxins found in a regular tobacco
cigarette. Of course, this is a very controversial topic in which creates a dilemma, some people
approve the use of electronic cigarettes as an alternative to tobacco cigarettes. In the other hand there
is people with negative views on the use of an e cigarette as an alternative to a regular tobacco
cigarette. My research will target a specific population, college students and their point of view on the
use of electronic cigarettes. I am interested to find what are college students at CSUSB perceptions of
the health impacts of electronic cigarettes? Are college students more susceptible to use electronic
cigarettes as an alternative to tobacco cigarettes?
Goals
In my research, I want to find out if perception plays a role in decision making. In this case I want to
know if college student perceptions of electronic cigarettes at CSUSB impacts their decision making.
For example, a student who believes e cigarettes are less harmful than tobacco cigarettes is more
likely to use electronic cigarettes. In the other hand, a student who believes e cigarettes are more

5 Benefits of Seeing a Chiropractor Anyone who has experienced the pain associated with a neck or

hands of an experienced chiropractor can make all the difference in terms of quality of life. While
chiropractors are certainly qualified to assist in back and neck issues, they may also offer a variety of
other advantages to their clients. The following are some of the top benefits of seeing a chiropractor in

When a chiropractor performs a specific type of procedure for several weeks, the result may be even
more effective than taking blood pressure medication. This could lead to a healthier overall condition
for the client but the person should still follow the various dietary and exercise recommendations for
people with hypertension. 4. Better Athletic Performance Many athletes are aware of the benefits of
chiropractic treatment, and chiropractors have been used for decades by some of the top athletes in the
world. Getting a chiropractic adjustment can help to align the spine, which may then offer better
support to the muscles. This can enhance athletic performance not just for professional athletes, but
for anyone who wishes to remain active and healthy by engaging in sports. 5. Lower Medical and
Pharmaceutical Bills Chiropractic treatment is a great natural alternative to many of the medical
treatments and pharmaceutical options available today. A person who does not wish to undergo
surgery or manage pain with pain medication may want to consider chiropractic care. In many cases,
people with acute or chronic pain are able to avoid traditional medical treatment

United States, U.s. V. Nixon
Not to be confused with Nixon v. United States, U.S. v. Nixon was a crucial case of the
Supreme Court during a time of political scandal. On the night of June 17th, 1972, five men
broke into the Democratic National Committee in an attempt to gain secrets that would help
Nixon win the re election. The men were found to be connected to Nixon himself. Upon being
caught, all hell broke loose for Nixon s presidency and there was no turning back. Upon further
investigation by Congress, Nixon was committing illegal acts other than that of burglary. It was
discovered that the tapes Nixon used to record his conversations in the Oval Office would be
beneficial in the sense that they contained all the proof needed to impeach the president. The
president argued that this damning information needed not be shared with the community and
was protected by his executive privileges. The entire situation became known as the Watergate
scandal and exploded in popularity with the help of the media. After it was all said and done, the
Supreme Court ruled that Nixon was being unconstitutional. This is undoubtedly true due to the
fact a president is supposed to help a country grow stronger, not tear it apart.
In November of 1968, Richard Nixon, a former vice president, gains the title of president
beating Hubert Humphrey in a strikingly close election. However, his presidency was soon met
with difficulty and scandal. By 1971, the Pentagon Papers had been leaked to the

There are so many ethical issues that are continuously debated and still there has been no resolution.
Gay Marriage is an ethical issue that has been debated for years. This is an issue that I think that will
continue to be debated as a clear answer as to why it is morally wrong has yet to be determined. For so
long a deontological view has been applied to the subject. Those who are opposed to same sex

And allowing gay marriage will only open the door to more broken homes.
On the other hand when taking on a relativism perspective on can argue that children that are raised in
same sex parent households are no different from those raised in a traditional household. Same sex
marriage has not only been argued by those who oppose as only being a union between man and
woman. Those opposed can also argue that marriage is not between two people (a man and woman)
but of those not related. This brings in the argument of the what deontologists would support The
Slippery Slope argument, which argues that allowing same sex marriage will only lead us down a
slope that welcomes incest and polygamy. Those who support this also feel that if gay marriage is
allowed that it would threaten the institution of marriage. I disagree with this argument. I feel that now
days a person is going to do what they want. As long as there are two consenting adults then gay
marriage should be allowed. Same sex couples want to be married for the same reasons as
heterosexual couple. I do not feel that allowing gay marriage says hey you can now marry your
brother or sister etc. Although it s not talked about a lot there are a lot of people who practice
polygamy. There are different cultures and countries where it is the norm to have more than one wife
and it is perfectly fine. So I do not think this is a slippery slope. Taking a relativism approach when

seem like every student was part of it. He would act like he was telling us a bedtime story and with so
much description, it would make you forget that you were in class. He definitely had me at the edge of
my seat and it was the first time I was actually enjoying English class. After explaining the story in
depth, we would read passages from the story then he would find scenes from movies that would
correlate with parts of the story that we just read. We did the same thing for Shakespeare, when we
read Romeo and Juliet. We would analyze the movie to really see the emotion the characters were
expressing and to truly understand the story. This really helped me really get close to the story and
grasp what Shakespeare was trying to convey in his writing. Before I had his class, I never had
literature taught to me in such a way that I was able to easily understand the story before even reading
it. This method of teaching helped the story resonate with me longer, which made me more

the genetic information has been inputted into a database, it needs to be analyzed. Data analysis
consists of data mining and machine learning methods, through the use of high powered computers.
Data analysis is also used for identifying any bimolecular patterns in the observed outcome (Moore,

the analysis and studying, the interpretation of the information is what is most important. The
researchers need to be able to understand and comprehend what the data information signifies. From
there, bioinformatics can then be used for other various resources. For instance, bioinformatics can be
valuable in delivering therapeutics (Bioinformatics, 2000).
Bioinformatics is important because it allows researchers and scientists to study genetic information
and to be able to add to the database(s). Furthermore, it led to the emergence of computational
biology, in which researchers and scientists could interpret the genetic data (Hagen, 2000).

The Economic Crisis Of The United States
Although the global economic crisis in 2008 occurred in many countries around the world, it was
originally initiated by the United States of America. Being as though the United States is one of the
world s most hegemonies countries after its economy suffered from an immense downturn many
smaller countries were affected, most specifically the Caribbean. Many countries within the Caribbean
were affected greatly by the recession due to the fact that most of their gross domestic product comes
from tourist dollars and taxes on those goods. One may ponder how the recession or global economic
crisis in 2008 affected tourism in Caribbean countries, true scholars can infer that the recession in
2008 caused a decrease in aggregate spending in many countries that tourist resided in. Jamaica is a
prime example of a Caribbean country that was affected by the global economic crisis of 2008. As a
small underdeveloped Caribbean country Jamaica s fiscal policy system can be viewed as fragile to
some. With tourism bringing in the most revenue for the country the decline in economic activity
which ultimately led to the economic crisis of 2008, affected the Jamaican economy to a noticeable
extent. This study will expound upon the effects of the global crisis in 2008 had on Jamaica as a case

The Repercussion of Fracking
Is there anything better that a cool glass of water on a hot day or a swim in a clear blue lake? We need
water for drinking, and we need it for recreation. We use it in a thousand ways. Without it, we could
not survive. Yet with more and more people on our planet, we are using a lot and also using it
carelessly and that is effecting our everyday living.
You can t walk across a college campus, past an office building, or through a park without seeing one,
two, or ten empty bottles. Many are plastic water bottles. Trash bins overflow them. Those water
bottles are a problem. Why? Because only one out of five bottles actually makes it to a recycling bin.
Plastic bottles take centuries to decompose and if they are incinerated, toxic byproducts, such as
chlorine gas and ash containing heavy metals, are releasing into the atmosphere. The rest are littered
on our streets or over filing our landfills. They degrade our landscape and damage our environment. In
addition the plastic water bottles are not biodegradable that is, they don t decay. They remain as trash a
hundreds of years.
Making all the plastic for those bottles uses 17 million barrels of crude oil annually. That is the
equivalent to the fuel needed to keep 1 million vehicles on the road for 12 months so why are so many
people drinking bottled waters? They believe that they are making a healthy choice. But the truth is
that tap water is just as safe, often safer than bottled water. In fact, some bottled water is

My Career As A Career
First starting this class I didn t know what exactly what I wanted to do with a career. I was between
two careers trying to figure out what would be best for me. The CIT career would be nice to learn
something entirely new and at the same time tie it in with business some how. The problem I was
having is trying to figure out what I was going to do with it. Doing the first set of activities in this
class allowed me to learn what I really wanted in a job and what I can do with out. My career must
allow me freedom to choose what I want to do to be able to create what I want. My career must allow
me to choose my own hours. Don t get me wrong that I will only work a little because I am going to
put in hours around the clock. What I mean with flexible hours is that if something comes up I will be
able to work around it. It must also allow me to show leadership and call shot. Things that aren t so
important but still hold value is that my job should allow me not to work on Sunday. If I have to once
in a while because there is no way around it, that is understandable. My job should allow me to come
home for dinner most nights and be with my family. It could be not stressful but I deal with stress
good and don t mind it. It could also be not dealing with so many angry people but I can handle them
pretty will. The first option that I choose for my career list is computer networking architect. This
option really interested me because for my needs of a job it really fulfills the

Loss of Identity in Invisible Man Essay
Loss of Identity in Invisible Man
No matter how hard the Invisible Man tries, he can never break from the mold of black society. This
mold is crafted and held together by white society during the novel. The stereotypes and expectations
of a racist society compel blacks to behave only in certain ways, never allowing them to act according
to their own will. Even the actions of black activists seeking equality are manipulated as if they are
marionettes on strings. Throughout the novel the Invisible Man encounters this phenomenon and
although he strives to achieve his own identity in society, his determination is that it is impossible.
In the beginning of the novel, the Invisible Man is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The marionette metaphor is therefore exemplified in a physical sense. However the Invisible Man
observes others in the book that manifest this metaphor in a psychological sense.
The concept of blindness is a reoccurring theme in the book that serves to control the blacks.
Reverend Barbee s sermon is the first encounter involving symbolic blindness. The sermon reinforces
the values of the school, which give the impression that blacks have the opportunity to gain true
equality if they work hard enough. Barbee tells the story of the founder of the school. Barbee regards
the Founder as a god of sorts, whose ideology should be trusted completely, like a religion. The
sermon declares that the Founder s ideology and life represent a universal example that should be
followed. Interestingly enough, Barbee is physically blind and therefore displays how this ideology is
followed blindly. This serves to pigeon hole the efforts of the students at the college, keeping them in
control, further emulating this marionette metaphor. Although at this point in the book the Invisible
Man does not yet realize it, this is his first encounter with this metaphor in a psychological sense.
Later on in the novel, the Invisible Man joins the Brotherhood, and the theme of

The Apology By Plato And Tao Te Ching
Many decisions involve a considerable amount of contemplation and reasoning. These decisions
include the ethical dilemmas we encounter every day on an individual and global scale, such as
contemplating whether capital punishment is just or unjust. Ethics is often confused with factors that
are not cohesive with our true self but that are induced from society. Ethics is not feelings, religion,
science, or following the law and cultural norm. Ethics is, however, a set of moral behaviors that tell
us what is right and wrong in different situations. Through writings such as The Apology by Plato and
Tao Te Ching by Lao Tzu we are can more clearly get a picture of what it means to be ethical and how
to respond to ethical dilemmas. In Plato s The Apology, Socrates supports the fairness and justice
ethical approach by recognizing that all equals must be treated equally. Socrates went in search of
politicians, poets, and craftsmen; all people claiming to have a higher status and greater intelligence
because of their skills. However, through cross examination he found that these men were not superior
to the common man. In fact, he realized that believing one has a specialized type of knowledge
actually limits human wisdom. We must realize that one person is not superior to another simply
because of their occupation, education, race, or gender. No two people are the same; the politicians,
poets, craftsmen, and the common man are all very different, but nonetheless, they

My First Disney Trip
My first Disney trip was everything I imagined and more. Disney is the most magical place on Earth.
Although I was scared to get on all the big rides I still managed to get on. I would stay calm in all of
the lines, but whenever I saw I was about to get on the ride I would get the biggest knots in my
stomach. On Tower of Terror, I was very close to crying, but I got through it. A very scary ride is
Space Mountain. It was like I wanted to start balling out crying, but it was just tears falling out of my
eyes. I also hated big drops at the time. The rides with big drops like Splash Mountain, Tower of
Terror, and Space Mountain made me lose my stomach. My favorite roller coaster is Rockin Roller
Coaster. Rockin Roller Coaster is a fast loopy loop ride, but it s very smooth and easy going. I do not
like jerky rides like the primeval whirl that jerks you every which way.
There are also 4 parks to go to in Disney. There is Animal Kingdom, Magic Kingdom, Epcot, and
Hollywood Studios. My favorite park is the Magic Kingdom because there is more to do there, but I
like the other ones too.
I also love the food at Disney World. They have the best fries ever. Their ice cream is also amazing.
There is this ice cream called Pine Apple Dole Whip and it is the best you ll ever taste. The best
restaurants at Disney is Cosmic Rays, Dino Bite, and, Casey s Corner. I always get fries and chicken
tenders.
One of the things I love about Disney is the memories we make with family and friends.

In return improved affect, lower psychological stress, reduced rates of illnesses, e.g., psychiatric, and
physical closeness are achieved. Laughter is a signal that plays a critical role in interactions and
interpersonal relationships. It is believed to have evolved more than seven million years ago which is
certainly before the speech was conceived. There are many theories to explain laughter. However, it
has been concluded that it was a form of communication. Its importance as a social signal is certainly
universally accepted. Laughing styles, however, vary with individual s sex and nationality. It is used to
fill conversational pauses and ultimately regulates flow. It has health benefits to the person producing
it. Increased laughter increases heart rate, oxygen consumption and respiratory rate which lead to
muscle relaxation. It also reduces glucose levels and increases pain tolerance in children. There are
many classifications of laughter which include voiced, unvoiced chuckle, breathy nasal, etc. classified
by different scientists depending on functions which relate to each. Humor can be defined as
ubiquitous activity by the human that show in all social interactions. It is a common phenomenon that
human laugh at anything funny, however, humor serves several serious cognitive and emotional
events. Humour is brought about by actions that defy expectation majorly jokes. Humor differs from

Essay On Cultural Encounter Museum
For my Cultural Encounter Project, I had the pleasure of visiting The Cummer Museum of Art and
Gardens in Jacksonville, Florida. The museum was founded in 1958 by Ninah Cummer, who had a
very nice art collection in her home. The Cummer Museum is built on the site of Arthur and Ninah
Cummer s home and is considered the largest fine arts museum in northeast Florida.
The museum has a permanent collection of more than 5,000 objects from various points in history, and
the historic gardens have many statues and monuments. Artifacts in the museum include porcelain
pieces, paintings and sculptures from the Middle Ages through the 20th century. The museum features
various styles and periods of art, such as the Renaissance, and different styles of art ... Show more

Her work, We Are One, is a mixed media consisting of clay, basket reeds, and wooden beads. This
beautiful piece of work explores the relationship between people and media. She redefines a place in
society, creating an artistic visual through handmade vessels. In this journey, you will see connections
with the past and hope for the future.
Outside the Jacobsen Gallery which features the LIFT exhibition, are photos of a sculpture called The
Harp created by August Savage (a native of Green Cove Springs, Florida) in 1939 for the New York
World s Fair. Approximately 16 feet tall, Savage s sculpture, titled The Harp, was strongly influenced
by James Weldon Johnson s song, Lift Ev ry Voice and Sing.
The personified instrument, using twelve African American youth singers in various heights
symbolized the strings of the harp. The hand of God formed the sounding board, and the foot pedal
was represented by a kneeling man holding music. The sculpture was celebrated as one of Savage s
major works; however, with a lack of finances to cast it into bronze, the sculpture was destroyed at the
end of the Fair.
Despite the fact that The Harp does not exist in its final form, its legacy continues through numerous
photographs and souvenir reproductions. I was really impressed with the sculpture and the history of

What Is Tim Burton s Unique Style
Tim Burton has a unique style for everything including his rare costuming. There have been a few
movies where he has used this rare style. For example in the two movies Edward Scissorhands and
Charlie and the Chocolate Factory Tim Burton gave them interesting and rare looking costumes. In
Edward Scissorhands ,Edward for example wears a rare black leathered piece of clothing with black
shoes and his hair is all over the place, later on Edward wears a white shirt with brown pants.
Everyone else for example like the women all wear either casual dresses or jeans and a shirt with
weird looking hairstyles that most likely represented the 80 s. The husbands for example and the rest
of the guys all wore casual shirts and jeans or shorts as well. On

Weaknesses Of The Articles Of Confederation
The Articles of Confederation were placed as a form of temporary government. However, the Articles
did not address the many problems the United States was having and going to have at the time.
Therefore The Articles of Confederation were one of the weakest forms of functioning governments.
After many years of fighting for independence, America needed a break from any type of government.
Well you see in order to have a functioning country you need some type of functioning government.
When the idea of a government came up many were fearful of what could happen. What if they
resorted back to the old ways? What if all those years of fighting for independence were for nothing?
Congress had to start somewhere. And in November 1777, The Articles of Confederation were
accepted. The Continental Congress adopted the Articles of Confederation, the first constitution of the
United States, on November 5, 1777. The main purpose of the Articles of Confederation was to have
something to hold on to while America set up. However there Articles did not deal very well with state
things. Such as dealing with foreign relations and economic conditions. When accepted the Articles
were only to work under certain conditions. Conditions being those such as not interfering with other
states and their commerce. Or states that had not paid if war debts. Out of fear of becoming their
enemy they thought that it was a good idea. Congress created many departments and one of them was

It can decide what one will do for the rest of his life, and it can determine how one will live our life. Good education does not come easy though. One must go through struggles in order to obtain it. People spend years to get the degree that they want. Douglass s struggles were much worse than the struggles we endure today. The fact that Douglass was a slave greatly hurt his chances of acquiring an education. Since he was a slave, it was illegal and dangerous for people to teach him how to read and write because they could get in trouble with the law. Slaveholders and masters feared educated slaves. Douglass became a great speaker and writer. He wanted to open the eyes of the nation to the cruelty of slavery. Richard LaGravenese s movie freedom writers displayed some of the modern hardships students go through to receive an education. The most prevalent hardship that is seen today is racial intolerance. Students today do not know how to tolerate other races and are not willing to tolerate other races. Mrs. Gruwell intended to teach her students how to tolerate and accept different races She taught them that appearance does not make one person better than the other person. High school students are caught up in the popularity hype. In the movie, the way to gain popularity and respect is to fight people from other races. They think that they gain a lot from beating someone up. Unfortunately, not many people will stand up for what is right because they do not want to get ridiculed. In order to make a change you have to be willing to stick out. Mrs. Gruwell was willing to stand out for her cause so she could make a change and to fix the problem. She was persistent. It is difficult to define exactly what play is. Play can vary amongst different types of activities, social contexts, and also age groups. Free, imaginative play is vital for normal social, emotional and cognitive development. Play is important for children s learning as it helps them to become socially adept, managing with stress and developing cognitive skills such as problem solving. There are many different reasons why children play, sometimes they are discovering or learning new things. Play can be a way of building or strengthening relationships with either other children or adults. Children more often play simply for the fun and enjoyment it offers them. Many theorists have tried to make a concrete definition of what play is. Play has been defined as a dynamic process that develops and changes as it becomes progressively more varied and complex. Play is considered a crucial facilitator for learning and development, and reflects the social and cultural contexts in which children live (Christie, 2001) According to Piaget (1969), play is a way for children to combine experiences, knowledge and understanding. • 11. An Analysis Of Charles Hatfield s The Smartest Kid On... Charles Hatfield s essay, An Art of Tensions, that comics are marked as being easy to read, when in fact they are a complex means of communication. Comic readers must call upon different reading strategies, or interpretive schema, than they would use in their reading of conventional written text. Chris Ware is often noted as a cartoonist who elevates comics because of the number of literary awards his work has received. Ware got his start in the 1991 in RAW Magazine, continuing his work in his series Acme Novelty Library. One of his most notable comics is Jimmy Corrigan: the Smartest Kid on Earth. Readers learn to appreciate his comics on a higher level because they cannot rush through his work. It s complexity is a result of his use of text, diagrams, and pacing. Comic readers value Ware s artistry because they have to work for understanding. Readers appreciate Chris Ware s work because it s complexity causes the reader to slow down to absorb the information given to them. This is largely due to the pace of the comics. Hatfield says that the author s task is to give the reader an imagined sequence and it s the reader s job is to translate the series into a narrative sequence by achieving closure. The author must develop a rhythm for the reader to follow. So that when they break the rhythm with a single image to give them a key piece of information it has impact. • 12. The Effect Of Osmosis On The Rate Of Osmosis The reasoning behind this experiment is the examine whether the rate of osmosis is changed due to a change in temperature. It was hypothesized that the rate of osmosis will increase as the temperature of the sucrose is increased. The rate of osmosis was tested by using the different jars full of different temperate water and testing how high the water rose on an osmometer over a span of 20 minutes. An osmometer is a tool used to measure rates of osmosis. The different temperatures tested on a sucrose solution were 5 degrees Celsius, 20 degrees Celsius, and 37 degrees Celsius. Rates of osmosis were higher in the hot water than in the cold water and control. The results showed that the rate of osmosis increased as the temperature increased, henceforth the hypothesis was supported. In conclusion, the experiment showed how changes in temperature affect the rate of osmosis. Introduction: Osmosis is a process in which molecules in a solvent pass across a semipermeable membrane into a more concentrated solution from a less concentrated one, attempting to make both sides isotonic or equal to each other. Isotonic can also be described as an equilibrium, where there is no net movement of the molecules. Osmosis is relevant in everyday life whether the general population is aware of it or not. It could be as simple as sitting in the pool too long and getting pruney fingers or as complex as a cholera infection in the intestinal cells that does not allow the intestinal cells ... • 14. Calpurnia Motherly Figure Second of all, I will be evaluating whether Calpurnia or Aunt Alexandra is a better motherly figure for the two children. To start, Calpurnia is a good motherly figure. Firstly, she took the children to church on Sunday when Atticus was not home to do so. In the reading it says, How d you and Mister Jem like to come to church with me tomorrow? (Lee 156). Calpurnia did not only take them to church, but took them to an African American church, giving the children a new perspective on how life for some people is, teaching them both the valuable lesson of walking in somebody else s shoes which is also a major theme in the book. Secondly, Scout found Calpurnia to be good company when Jem decided to act independent and not spend time with her ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... We d be glad to have you (Lee 168). To continue, Aunt Alexandra is not as good or a motherly figure. Firstly, Aunt Alexandra is rude to Calpurnia. In the novel, the first sentence she says to Calpurnia is, Put my bag in the front bedroom, Calpurnia (Lee 169). Calpurnia is the family cook, not a servant, and she is also an African American woman. Aunt Alexandra being rude to a black woman could be a bad influence for the children in the future, where they might think that it is okay to be rude to them because Aunt Alexandra did it. Secondly, she fights with their father on multiple occasions throughout the chapters. One example from the reading is, Alexandra, Calpurnia s not leaving this house until she wants to. You may think otherwise, but I could not have got along without her all these years... If anything, she s been harder on them in some ways than a mother would have been (Lee 182, 183). Considering the fact that the children prefer their dad as a parent over Aunt Alexandra, it is inferred that they would take Atticus side in the argument because they also love Calpurnia, and if Aunt Alexandra were to take somebody they loved out of their lives, that would make the children hate her even ... • 15. One Hundred Years of Solitude by Gabriel García Márquez Shortly following its creation, Macondo is introduced to its decline into destruction that continues for the majority of the novel. Macondo s corruption and finally destruction is the result of its corruption of innocence from technology and modernization which both stem from pursued knowledge. This is another biblical allusion that serves as important evidence for Marquez s theme. This begins with the introduction of outside institutions that end up creating more problems then benefits, starting with the gypsies. The gypsies arrive in Macondo with seemingly wonderful new innovations: magnets, telescopes, and magnifying glasses. They are led by a man named Melquiades, who inspires José Arcadio Buendía s thirst for knowledge and, even after dying, returns to tempt other generations of Buendías. Although a hidden antagonist, Melquiades is the one who brings the temptation of knowledge into the Buendia household and Macondo itself. He inspires Jose Arcadio Buendia to dedicate his life to knowledge and scientific progress. From a religious perspective, this leads the reader to view Melquiades as the archetype of the devil luring the protagonist into sin. In the bible, it was the devil that was disguised as a snake and tempted Adam and Eve, which resulted in the loss of paradise and the beginning of sin on Earth. This act also resulted in the concept of original Sin which is the biblical doctrine that all of Adams children (humanity) will bear his sin. This is highly apparent ... Elastigirl also has the superpower of invulnerability, meaning she can withstand large amounts of pain and discomfort. It is mind boggling to think about how Elastigirl has these superpowers that she possesses. The only answer to this is biology. For example, some joints in humans simply are not meant to be flexible, there is internal resistance within a joint, there are bony structures which limit movement, the elasticity of muscle tissue differs and muscle tissue that is scarred due to a previous injury is not very elastic. Also, the elasticity of tendons and ligaments is very limited. Ligaments do not stretch much and tendons should not stretch at all. The elasticity of skin actually has some degree of elasticity, but not much. Also, the temperature of the joint and associated tissues are musically more flexible at body temperatures that are 1 to 2 degrees higher than normal. Unlike normal humans, Elastigirl has an evolved extraordinary body system. There are many biological difficulties that Elastigirl would encounter if she did not have this body system, which would hindering her flexibility. As previously stated, she would encounter many issues involving her joints, bony structures, muscle elasticity, tendons, ligaments, and skin that would limit her range of motion and flexibility. • 17. Reflection On Final Reflection Final Reflection Essay I thought this class would be easier than it ended up being. You warned us of this on the first day of class, and you were certainly right. Fortunately, this resulted in me actually improving my public speaking skills, which I will certainly need as I go through my career. Most of the public speaking I d done before this class involved one on one, pitch style speaking. This one done at robotics competitions trying to present our project to judges. While this was certainly useful experience, it was very on the fly. It did not prepare me for this class I well as I thought it would. The class succeeded at its goal of making me improve my public speaking skills, and this improvement happened in three main areas; my engagement with the audience, my anxiety, and my understanding of an outline. Given these improvements, I feel much better prepared to handle public speaking experiences I will have in the future. One thing I really noticed I improved was my engagement with the audience. These two facets of speaking are clearly related, and they both improved for me over the course of the semester. For one of my early speeches, I got the feedback that the only person I made eye contact with was you for the entire speech. I was making an attempt at engaging with the audience, but I clearly failed. Noting this, it was something I tried especially hard to make sure I improved for my following speeches. It was at first awkward to manually move my head around the room without looking mechanical, but as I did it more and more it became natural. In my earlier speeches, you also noted that my speech pattern was very one note, and I believe I made progress on fixing this as the year went on. The other aspect that helped me improve in this area was reducing my speaking anxiety. The was the biggest thing that improved during this class. We were told that the only way to get over speech anxiety was to simply speak more, and doing that surely helped. I definitely was falling into the perfectionist trap at first, especially because of my stutter. Being willing to accept that I m going to make mistakes was an important part about getting through the speeches. Your advice about not stopping every time I made a ... • 18. The Relationship Between Phonology And Morphology 3. The relationship between Phonology and Morphology. The relation between the distribution of phonemes and grammatical units such as morphemes and words is therefore an aspect of the interface between Phonology and morphology. Both Phonology and Morphology study various patterns in languages all over the world. Considering the similarities of these fields, both are engaged in the scientific analysis of languages. Both are sub branches of Linguistics and without studying Phonology, one cannot move on to Morphology. There is an inter relationship between these subjects. For differences, we can identify that Phonology mainly concentrates on sound systems of a language while Morphology pays attention to the word and the morphemes of a language. (Booij, 2007) Then, in general, the interaction between phonology and morphology can be illustrated into at least four points: 1 Phonological rules may precede the morphological rules. Therefore, phonemes are considered to be the basic units of speech sound by which morphemes are represented. The firm operated in several business groups but distinguished itself from other firms by extensive collaboration across divisions. It was divided into Corporate Private Equity, Real Estate Funds, Marketable Alternative Asset Management, Corporate Debt Funds, and Advisory Services. The fact that the stock market tends to be short term focused further shows the importance of having the MLP structure. To maintain the long term focus on investments the firm needs to separate the governance of the firm from the shareholders and the limited voting rights will ensure this. 2. If you were a limited partner in Blackstone, how would you view the structure Blackstone has put in place to go public? As a limited partner in Blackstone I would consider the structure as chosen to ensure my interests. Given the fact that the firm chose to go public for the opportunities that a listing brings, it seems to be the best way of doing it. I would be most worried about that the firm would try too much to stabilize the share price and fulfil the interest of the shareholders by focusing on short term profits. Many of the limited partners in a private equity fund are pensions funds or similar and do not mind to lock their money over a longer time period and, by doing so, seek the long term profit that the private equity firm can offer. I will highlight the two things that make me confident that my interests as a limited partner will be maintained with the structure that the firm is implementing. First, the structure allows ... • 20. Energy Deregulation Essay What is energy deregulation? Energy deregulation is the breakup of the utility monopoly in 35 states. Currently only 11 states allow full deregulation which allows consumers and businesses to choose their own electricity and gas providers. Energy deregulation is very similar to the AT T divestiture back in 1984. Consumers businesses were bound to AT T for their local and long distance services regardless of cost. The break up of AT T to Bell companies allow consumers to choose providers such as MCI, Sprint, and other telecommunication companies which allowed increased competition. Energy deregulation will do the same; however the PUC (Public Utilities Commission) of each given state is cautious of the breakup to prevent another Enron catastrophe. Also consumers need to make sure what agreement they sign as contracts are usually determined by fixed and variable rates. Also do not confuse energy deregulation with alternative energy or renewable energy, energy deregulation simply means shopping for electricity gas services through the open market. Energy deregulation has been adopted by many states over the past several years as a way to allow for multiple energy providers to compete for customers based on price and a higher level of customer service, break the utility monopoly into separate companies or business unit that separate the monopoly ... The reasons on which they decided to seperate were due to the country having different ideology views on slavery, to the government not taking action, and verbal/physical conflict. • 22. Traditional Families In The United States American households have never been so diverse. As a result of these changes, there is no longer one dominant family form in the U.S. Parents today are raising their children against a situation of increasingly diverse and, for most, constantly evolving family values. The idea of the modern family has evolved over the years because of the financial crisis which has caused both parents to look for work, parents are no longer staying together, and same sex couples are presently able to start a family of their own. The financial crisis has shaped the original ideologies of old typical American families. This is because families nowadays don t have the means to support a bustling household of children and the trending rate of stay at home parents has dropped significantly. Now both parents must maintain a full time position just to provide for their children. For example In the 1950 s 65 percent of all children under 15 were being raised in traditional breadwinner homemaker families. Today only 22 percent are. The play not only portrays this theme in its characters and setting, but through the literary devices of Foil, Imagery, and Intertextuality. There is also the loss of the baby which is a broken part of the story. Intertextuality is the shaping of texts meanings by other texts. Williams uses this literary device by referring to Book Nine of the Odyssey. Blanche is equal to deception. She is always flirting with some man especially Stanley. • 24. Identity In Maxine Hong Kingston s The Warrior Woman Identity is a complex structure, however while complex and seemingly structured, it can also be very fluid. Identity is a prominent factor in not only how we represent ourselves to others, but also how we view ourselves. Not solidifying how you see yourself can be a long, tormenting process filled with doubt, conflict, and misunderstanding, however once you know yourself, a calming, peaceful, and fulfilling feeling comes over you like a rainbow after a thunderstorm. In Maxine Hong Kingston s memoir, The Warrior Woman, she endures the process of defining herself over a series of stories, not all of which are hers, and ultimately, comes to a conclusion about what her identity really is. Through becoming a background character, participating in anti cultural behaviors, and adding her own crucial embellishments throughout her mother s stories, Kingston navigates her own selfness and pieces together a fluid, yet satisfying identity as a storyteller, based on the identities of others. Kingston shifts the traditional autobiographical center of I off balance and often makes the narrator almost a background character. In her memoir, she tells the audience about herself via embellishments on stories from her mother about other people, in conjunction with some stories of Kingston s own life. This method of sharing her personal journey with the audience tells a lot about her internal struggle between following traditional Chinese ideologies, or conforming to the latter half of the ... • 42. The Repercussion of Fracking Is there anything better that a cool glass of water on a hot day or a swim in a clear blue lake? We need water for drinking, and we need it for recreation. We use it in a thousand ways. Without it, we could not survive. Yet with more and more people on our planet, we are using a lot and also using it carelessly and that is effecting our everyday living. You can t walk across a college campus, past an office building, or through a park without seeing one, two, or ten empty bottles. Many are plastic water bottles. Trash bins overflow them. Those water bottles are a problem. Why? Because only one out of five bottles actually makes it to a recycling bin. Plastic bottles take centuries to decompose and if they are incinerated, toxic byproducts, such as chlorine gas and ash containing heavy metals, are releasing into the atmosphere. The rest are littered on our streets or over filing our landfills. They degrade our landscape and damage our environment. In addition the plastic water bottles are not biodegradable that is, they don t decay. They remain as trash a hundreds of years. Making all the plastic for those bottles uses 17 million barrels of crude oil annually. That is the equivalent to the fuel needed to keep 1 million vehicles on the road for 12 months so why are so many people drinking bottled waters? They believe that they are making a healthy choice. But the truth is that tap water is just as safe, often safer than bottled water. In fact, some bottled water is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The CIT career would be nice to learn something entirely new and at the same time tie it in with business some how. The problem I was having is trying to figure out what I was going to do with it. Doing the first set of activities in this class allowed me to learn what I really wanted in a job and what I can do with out. My career must allow me freedom to choose what I want to do to be able to create what I want. My career must allow me to choose my own hours. Don t get me wrong that I will only work a little because I am going to put in hours around the clock. What I mean with flexible hours is that if something comes up I will be able to work around it. It must also allow me to show leadership and call shot. Things that aren t so important but still hold value is that my job should allow me not to work on Sunday. If I have to once in a while because there is no way around it, that is understandable. My job should allow me to come home for dinner most nights and be with my family. It could be not stressful but I deal with stress good and don t mind it. It could also be not dealing with so many angry people but I can handle them pretty will. • 44. Loss of Identity in Invisible Man Essay Loss of Identity in Invisible Man No matter how hard the Invisible Man tries, he can never break from the mold of black society. This mold is crafted and held together by white society during the novel. The stereotypes and expectations of a racist society compel blacks to behave only in certain ways, never allowing them to act according to their own will. Even the actions of black activists seeking equality are manipulated as if they are marionettes on strings. Throughout the novel the Invisible Man encounters this phenomenon and although he strives to achieve his own identity in society, his determination is that it is impossible. In the beginning of the novel, the Invisible Man is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The marionette metaphor is therefore exemplified in a physical sense. However the Invisible Man observes others in the book that manifest this metaphor in a psychological sense. The concept of blindness is a reoccurring theme in the book that serves to control the blacks. Reverend Barbee s sermon is the first encounter involving symbolic blindness. The sermon reinforces the values of the school, which give the impression that blacks have the opportunity to gain true equality if they work hard enough. Barbee tells the story of the founder of the school. Barbee regards the Founder as a god of sorts, whose ideology should be trusted completely, like a religion. The sermon declares that the Founder s ideology and life represent a universal example that should be followed. Interestingly enough, Barbee is physically blind and therefore displays how this ideology is followed blindly. This serves to pigeon hole the efforts of the students at the college, keeping them in control, further emulating this marionette metaphor. Although at this point in the book the Invisible Man does not yet realize it, this is his first encounter with this metaphor in a psychological sense. Later on in the novel, the Invisible Man joins the Brotherhood, and the theme of

  • 46. The Apology By Plato And Tao Te Ching Many decisions involve a considerable amount of contemplation and reasoning. These decisions include the ethical dilemmas we encounter every day on an individual and global scale, such as contemplating whether capital punishment is just or unjust. Ethics is often confused with factors that are not cohesive with our true self but that are induced from society. Ethics is not feelings, religion, science, or following the law and cultural norm. Ethics is, however, a set of moral behaviors that tell us what is right and wrong in different situations. Through writings such as The Apology by Plato and Tao Te Ching by Lao Tzu we are can more clearly get a picture of what it means to be ethical and how to respond to ethical dilemmas. In Plato s The Apology, Socrates supports the fairness and justice ethical approach by recognizing that all equals must be treated equally. Socrates went in search of politicians, poets, and craftsmen; all people claiming to have a higher status and greater intelligence because of their skills. However, through cross examination he found that these men were not superior to the common man. In fact, he realized that believing one has a specialized type of knowledge actually limits human wisdom. We must realize that one person is not superior to another simply because of their occupation, education, race, or gender. No two people are the same; the politicians, poets, craftsmen, and the common man are all very different, but nonetheless, they ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 47. My First Disney Trip My first Disney trip was everything I imagined and more. Disney is the most magical place on Earth. Although I was scared to get on all the big rides I still managed to get on. I would stay calm in all of the lines, but whenever I saw I was about to get on the ride I would get the biggest knots in my stomach. On Tower of Terror, I was very close to crying, but I got through it. A very scary ride is Space Mountain. It was like I wanted to start balling out crying, but it was just tears falling out of my eyes. I also hated big drops at the time. The rides with big drops like Splash Mountain, Tower of Terror, and Space Mountain made me lose my stomach. My favorite roller coaster is Rockin Roller Coaster. Rockin Roller Coaster is a fast loopy loop ride, but it s very smooth and easy going. I do not like jerky rides like the primeval whirl that jerks you every which way. There are also 4 parks to go to in Disney. There is Animal Kingdom, Magic Kingdom, Epcot, and Hollywood Studios. My favorite park is the Magic Kingdom because there is more to do there, but I like the other ones too. I also love the food at Disney World. They have the best fries ever. Their ice cream is also amazing. There is this ice cream called Pine Apple Dole Whip and it is the best you ll ever taste. The best restaurants at Disney is Cosmic Rays, Dino Bite, and, Casey s Corner. I always get fries and chicken tenders. One of the things I love about Disney is the memories we make with family and friends. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Approximately 16 feet tall, Savage s sculpture, titled The Harp, was strongly influenced by James Weldon Johnson s song, Lift Ev ry Voice and Sing. The personified instrument, using twelve African American youth singers in various heights symbolized the strings of the harp. The hand of God formed the sounding board, and the foot pedal was represented by a kneeling man holding music. The sculpture was celebrated as one of Savage s major works; however, with a lack of finances to cast it into bronze, the sculpture was destroyed at the end of the Fair.
