Auden Vs Ginsberg
Literature has a lengthy history of odds and ends that get categorized by critics as unworthy of
widespread study, yet some are the most brilliant statements of their time. W. H. Auden s book
length poem The Age of Anxiety won the Pulitzer Prize for Poetry in 1948. It, along with Allen
Ginsberg s poem Howl, are diamonds that are often disregarded by literary critics and the public
as worthless rough. Each piece was a major breakthrough in its time. Auden and Ginsberg both
attempted to define the period of time and turmoil that they lived in as members of the other in
their respective societies. Both make booming battle cries for a generation, fit well into places of
deserved canonical respect, and receive influence from political and personal... Show more content

Its worth is hotly debated. W. B. Yeats and T. S. Eliot were contemporaries of Auden s, and
being a part of that legendary group is close to an automatic deservance of being a canonical
poet. Alternate views from critics either list him as the worst of the three, yet others argue
strongly that Auden was the greatest poet of the entire 20th century for what he could do with
words and form. Content in the book length poem speak volumes of the talent that the American
immigrant had. He created something that is hotly debated as both a failure and his greatest
accomplishment, and uncertainty in making that decision make it all the more worthy to be in
the canon. His uncertainty is the only real part of the poem as Auden s character laments that
The less I feel/The more I mind (commentary mag). The best works are pieces that make one
think about their worth. Characters that seem to mean little actually have a lot to say with what
they do as well as their words. Little happens, but the characters actions comment on major
themes of the human being. Halting speeches and words take the reader inside of the mind as
frailties become clear. What this poem has to say is vastly important once one gets past the errors
in form. Psychological and social problems are concerns that Age of Anxiety covers. Verse should
be neither too free nor too formed, as human experience is also neither: breath and

A Renaissance Time Traveler
A Renaissance Time Traveler As I have come to find myself in this strange city called New York,
I can not help but be amazed at such miraculous feats that men have accomplished. Such talent at
the hands of their architects, that can only be seen if only in a dream. For we did not conceive
of this new idea. I have been blessed with such an opportunity, to view the art of the modern
man. I am taken to a location called the SoHo Contemporary Art Museum, where I am placed
before a picture of a man by the name of Charlie Chaplin. As I study the painting, the colors catch
my eye in ways that I am not accustomed to. They are vibrant and catch the viewer s eye in such
a way that makes your eyes gaze outwards, but then lures them back to the image of the man
standing in the center. The leaflet that was given includes the information that this work of art
was constructed by a man of the name of Burton Morris and that this man is seen as somewhat
of a great figure in the eyes of these people. I am not used to seeing multitudes of paintings or
sculpters of images that are not of the depicting nature of the Holy Family, or of our Lord Christ.
I dare say these people seem to be of the character of nonbelief. A setting which I am not quite
acquainted with. This man in the painting expresses a natural form of well being. The slanting
nature of his back shows a man not so different from each and every man. His facial expressions
give the idea of not perfect joy, nor contempt, but

Story Of An Hour Setting Essay
Uses of Setting in The Story of an Hour
Setting plays an extremely important role in all stories as a device to help create the situation
characters are in, but sometimes the setting itself tells a story. Within Kate Chopin s The Story of
an Hour the setting is used to not only reveal the feelings Louise Mallard has about her marriage,
but also Victorian era marriages as a whole. The Story of an Hour is a short story about a woman
who was told her husband was dead. People are expecting a reaction of grief from her, due to the
fact that those around her believe she is a perfect Victorian housewife. However, she can t help
but feel the weight of the world lifted off of her shoulders as her obligations to her marriage are
finally coming to an end. Through Kate Chopin s use of limited setting with Mrs. Mallard s room,
the staircase, and the window of this house, an idea of Victorian Era marriages is displayed.

Mallard feels, but also attempts to reveal wives view of marriage during the time period. The
staircase is where Victorian era norms were affecting Louise s reactions and displayed self. In
the beginning of this short story, after she hears about her husband s supposed death, Chopin
writes, She wept at once, with sudden, wild abandonment, in her sister s arms (1). While Mrs.
Mallard is on the staircase she always keeps her true feelings to herself and shows a fake version
which adheres to the norms that not only her sister but also her husband s friend are expecting of
her. This is shown later in the story when it is revealed to the reader that she actually was not
happy with her marriage and was excited to hear of her husband s death. Chopin uses the staircase
to represent a place where other s opinions affect how women at the time acted, alluding to the
societal norms of the Victorian

Analysis Of The Book The Lottery Essay
When I think of the lottery, I think of a game basically where they choose one number and
something or something gets chosen.
* Setting can best be defined as: B. Thy physical location, time, and social environment in which
a story takes place. In the first paragraph, the setting is described as a beautiful sunny day that is
during the summer. Everything is in bloom and the grass is green. Basically, during this first
paragraph, the author describes it as a perfect day which shows how nice it is and making the
reader not realize what the townspeople are actually going to do, which is the opposite of how this
day really is. This sets a peaceful and happy tone and atmosphere throughout the beginning of the
story.
Mood can best be defined as: A. The emotional effect or feeling that a text creates in a reader. The
mood that the villagers seem to be in is a happy and normal mood because they feel that the lottery
is just another normal day. They are neither sad nor angry, just content and used to the tradition of
doing the lottery. They act like nothing is wrong and do not care who dies. I can tell that they are
in a content mood because they don t care about doing the lottery and feel that it is an important
part of their lives. The type of event that the lottery seems to be is a gathering where they chose to
kill one person by stoning them to death.
The possible reason why the people hesitated to help Mr. summers with the box is that they don t

Steve Jobs At Wozniak And Ronald Wayne
Steve Jobs found Apple over 40 years ago; Jobs, along with his two friends Steve Wozniak and
Ronald Wayne. The three conceived the company, Apple Computer Inc, on April 1, 1976, in Job s
parent s garage and from then on they would create a technological cultural phenomenon. Fast
forward to January 9, 2007, and the first generation iPhonewas released which revolutionized the
smartphone as we know it today as it was the first smartphone to feature an adaptive touch screen
display. The first generation iPhone had a 3.5 inch screen, was encased in metal and featured
the trademark home button found on the bottom of the display. The first generation iPhone also
featured an impressive 2 megapixel camera, had a 320x480 pixel display, 128 MB of RAM, 4
GB of internal storage, iOS version 3.0, and was Wi Fi capable. Not to mention, also connected
to the iTunes Store, web browsing via Safari, email capabilities, and even included Google Maps
(Kerris Apple Reinvents ). However, by today s standard the first generation iPhone is hardly
impressive, but in 2007 the iPhone was something to get excited about, as it was the only phone
at the time to have a touch screen display compared to the sea of plastic sliding phones such as
the Nokia N95, flip phones such as the RAZR, and Blackberry s (Segan). In many ways the first
generation iPhone paved the way for many other smartphones and its specs became the industries
standard for a smartphone. Steve Jobs made the iPhone into what it is today,

Holland Christian Schooling Report
To start the story of my religious upbringing I have to go as far back as I know, with my great
grandpa. My great grandpa grew up in the region of Holland in the Netherlands. In the year 1919,
when he was nine years old, he came to America with his family. They settled in Holland, Michigan
where my familyhas remained. Holland, Michigan was founded not too long before that, in 1847.
Holland was founded by Dutch Calvinist separatists who were led by Albertus VanRaalte.
VanRaalte intended to purchase land in Wisconsin, but an early winter delayed the group and they
ended up hearing about available land in west Michigan. Dutch immigrants, like my great grandpa
and his family, moved to America, and more specifically to west Michigan because of... Show more

I was blessed to be able to go through such a good school system. Some people complained about
going to a private, Christian school, but I really enjoyed it. I do wonder sometimes though what
it would have been like to go through public schooling and if that would have changed how I am
today. I think the strong morals and values I hold today were largely created by my upbringing.
But, I do think I used to simply claim to be a Christian because of my family. If my parents are
Christian that must mean I m a Christian, right? Going to college made me realize that my faith
is something that I have to make my own. My faith is not necessarily my parents faith. I have to
make a decision on what I believe and what I stand for, separate from my family. I remember that
around the age of 14 I started to feel distant from God and was not very strong in my faith.
Throughout high school I think I had different points of feeling spiritual highs, but felt like my
faith was lukewarm. Today, I think I am starting to separate my parent s faith from my own, and
starting to make it mine. I feel like this is something everyone has to do at some point in their
life. In the past year, and in the past couple months especially, I have had a stronger relationship
with God. I definitely don t feel strong in my faith, but I feel like I am growing spiritually. I think

Bullying in Social Networks
Bullying in Social Networks
Bullying in Social Networks Technology, it seems has unleashed an ugliness in us. (Pitts, 2010,
p. 8A.) With all the technology around us, one would assume that it should be used for good.
However, people today are using social networks such Facebook, Myspace, Twitter, Skype,
Youtube and many more, not only as a way to keep in contact with people but as a way to attack
people. Technology has evolved into this great thing where, one all can keep in touch with family
members or high school friends from the past or the present. I have used some of these social

We need to use what we have and use it to strengthen and help others not weaken and knock
down our fellow citizen. Sadly, many people use networking for viscous deeds. If one knows
that he is easily offended, it might be better to not even open an account with a networking site.
Yet if one does, it would be wise to limit it to close friends and family as protection from this
harsh society. Perhaps, sticking to old fashioned phone calls, letter writing and going to visit
that individual that you want to keep in contact with. I remember back when I was in
elementary school during lunch one spring day. I recall walking into the cafeteria, and my
friends waved me down to come join them. I took cuts in line because I wanted to be with them
and catch up on all the latest gossip. I managed to get in line without the lunch lady seeing me. I
began talking with my friends, when this snooty girl looked at me and said, What do you think
you re doing? I ignored her because I simply didn t care. I continued chatting with the girls until,

Theme Of Psychoanism In Wuthering Heights
Wuthering Heights, published by Emily BrontГ« in 1847, tells a story of the history of Wuthering
Heights and the tragic love story that precedes it. The two central settings of the work, Thrushcross
Grange, and Wuthering Heights represent Freud s structural model of the human psyche: the id and
the superego. Because Freud s structural model presents the notion that internal conflict is
inevitable, the two settings illustrate the complexities of the human subconscious and the
characters difficulty in navigating them.
In BrontГ« s Wuthering Heights, the namesake setting of the book represents the Freudian id, by
reason of its primitive aspect in the work. In psychoanalytic theory, the id is responsible for the
primal instincts in humans, and almost always seeks immediate fulfillment. Early on in the novel,
the primal nature of Wuthering Heights exposes itself: the Gothic architecture of the house gives
off a sense of foreboding, the inside of the home lacks conventional furnishings, meat hangs from
the kitchen ceiling, and Lockwood, the narrator, notices a pile of dead rabbits in the living room.
Lockwood calls the atmosphere surrounding the house a tumult to which its station is exposed in
stormy weather (5). The description of the home reveals an underlying barbarity to it, similar to the
id. The darkness in the Heights mirrors location of the id in the human subconscious; the id is
located deep in the recesses of the human mind, so many humans who engage the id have no way to
resist it. The tone of the work shrouds the Heights in an antagonistic darkness, and the lack of
conventionality coupled with the turbulent weather serves as a physical manifestation of the id.
In contrast, Thrushcross Grange represents the superego due to the air of controlled refinement
surrounding the home. Freud s model defines the superego as the part of the mind that acts as a
critical self conscious, reflecting social standards learned through parents and teachers. The refined
nature of the house and its adherence to societal standards shows in its physical appearance. As he
described the appearance of Thrushcross Grange in the novel Heathcliff should have thought

`` Faking Nature `` By Robert Elliot
Authenticity holds intrinsic value. The process of destroying something to then later recreate it
removes its authenticity and in turn, its intrinsic value. In his essay, Faking Nature, Robert Elliot
argues that the recreation of natural landscapes after human destruction strips nature of its value.
Rather than disrupting and restoring landscapes, Elliot emphasizes the priority should be
preserving it. Elliot rejects the argument of the restoration thesis which is the claim that a recreation
of a destroyed entity has equal valueto the original entity. This is provided the restoration is
attainable and economically feasible. His argument is the value of the natural can never fully be
restored despite advances of technology utilized by engineers. Elliot defines natural as unmodified
by human activity (Elliot 80). Elliot acknowledges natural does not equate value nor is it inherently
better than non natural. Elliot uses the examples of disease and environmental disasters to show
that natural occurrences may not be good. There are cases where human involvement enhances
naturebut it is when the human disruption intends to replace a constitutionally good natural aspect
that reduction in the value occurs. The depreciation of this value stems from the necessity of its
genesis. It is an object s history, its origins, its story, and its continuity of the past that instills the
worth of nature (Elliot 83). The successor of the natural does not hold the same stature (as seen in

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Ordinary Portland Cement
General
Ordinary Portland cement (OPC) is most widely used cementitious material and is the second
most consumed resource in the world as it forms the basic ingredient in concrete and Bricklayer
Joseph Aspdin of Leeds, England first prepared Portland cement early in the 19th century by
sweltering powdered limestone and clay in his kitchen stove [13]; this laid the foundation for an
industry to develop a binder called ordinary Portland cement. The major applications of concrete in
the construction field such as infrastructure, habitation and transportation have greatly influenced in
affecting the economic progress by improving the stability and quality of life to a very wide extent.
However, inherent disadvantages are that production of Ordinary Portland cement (OPC) using raw
materials such as limestone and clay are depleting and quarrying of them is causing the source for
environmental degradation. OPC production involves a very high energy intensive and exothermic
process, as because it consumes 4Gj energy and produces about one ton of carbon dioxide, where it
significantly contributes to 5% of global carbon ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Coordinating Committee, SNCC. SNCC was founded in the 1960s in Releigh, North Carolina
and initially consisted of black students as its members (Murphree 2006:11). The first members
of this organization made use of nonviolent ways of protests such as sitting in and occupation of
certain public places. The organization was successful in making other people aware of the
injustices that black people were usually exposed to. Moreover, SNCC supported more nonviolent
protests such as the Freedom Rides in 1961 and the March on Washington in 1963 which paved
the way for the amendment of the Civil Rights Act of 1964. John Lewis was born on February 21,

Theme Of Greed In The Hobbit
Greed is a common, yet detrimental factor in society today. All around the world people
experience this type of attribute, whether it is for power or for the simple concept of desiring more
in life. In order to further this prevalent theme, Peter Jackson created the film The Hobbit
Desolation of Smaug, in 2013. In this film, he continued the adventure of Bilbo Bagginsand the
dwarves and set them off to reclaim their ancient dwarven city guarded by the dragon, Smaug.
Throughout the entire movie, the characters face many tough obstacles, those being orcs, elves
and most importantly the evil dragon. Those elves actually came to their rescue later on in the
movie, proving their loyalty. Those noble elves were Tauriel and Legolas. Also, a major
character in the movie was Gandalf, which was the powerful wizard. In the movie, he aided in
their adventure by leading them to the proper trail while also providing them with many struggles
they may encounter on the way. While all of the characters and setting play a key role in shaping
the movie as a whole, the theme of greed is a much greater aspect throughout the film. Peter
Jackson implements personification, symbolism, and foreshadowing in his movie in order to point
his audience towards the bigger message, greed is the root of all evil.
To provide his message with further reasoning, Jackson employed the rhetorical device of
personification. This device is prevalent throughout the entire movie as he gives human
characteristics to animals and also different species. By doing so he not only added another
rhetorical device to his film but he most importantly, furthered his theme by showing how it is
thought about by different characters in the movie, along with their own perspectives on the matter.
For example, in the movie the dragon is a prime representation of greed. During one scene in the
movie you see this characteristic come into play when all that is surrounding the dragon is gold
and many treasures, far more than you could ever imagine. The dragon simply kills for treasure,
collects treasure, and does nothing but lie upon it and prove his worth to those surrounding him.
This technique showed the audience how characters and creatures in a certain film exhibit

The colonies did not like the idea of paying high taxes to the King of England. In order to show
their rage and anger, they did it by not paying taxes. The King of England was frustrated by the
colonist s action and send an army to the Americas to sort this problem out. However, the people of
America wanted to be free from England, so with the help of the Enlightenment thinkers and the

It was a great time for the scholars and philosophers to introduce democracy and justice through
deliberations of liberty and equality. One of the most well known philosopher, Thomas Hobbes,
is known for his political thoughts. He is a kind of a guy that thinks about how people could
actually live their life ignoring the conflicts happening around them. He believes that people
have their own right to do whatever they desire by not what they are told to do. He also believes
that a system of governing should be an individual person rather than a group from a foreign
country asking them to do as they pleased. In order for him to do that, he wrote a book. His book
is called Leviathan . In that book it is stated that people are incapable of ruling themselves, primarily
because humans are naturally self centered and quarrelsome and need the iron fist of a strong
leader. Hobbes was not more effective than following philosophes like Voltaire, Montesquieu, and
Rousseau. They were more confident about democracy. Their ideas were straight to the point and
they support questions that were negatively viewed about absolute monarch. For example,
Montesquieu proposed a concept about the separation of powers into different district of
government. They also find willing students who are tempted to fight for liberty. The ideas of the
Enlightenment helped lead to the American Revolution and

The Book Thief Good Vs Evil
Henry David Thoreau once said, Justice is sweet and musical; but injustice is harsh and
discordant. Whenever there are complications and divided opinions in the world, nobody is at
rest; because of rallies, protests, fights, and angry mobs. But when justice is achieved, people can
relax, even if for the smallest amount of time. Thus, to reach times of joy and happiness, people
need to overcome evil through strong efforts as a whole; but, defeating evil takes more than just
rallying together. There are many obstacles along the path of achieving justice, that forestall the
good men s endeavors. Some argue that the key to evil s success is either for good men to do
nothing, or for evil to fight stronger. Edmund Burke, a political theorist, believes... Show more

For example, in The Book Thief, Jewish prisoners are led down Munich Street as the German
people watch them silently. But an outlier, Hans Hubermann, sees the starved prisoners and
presents a piece of bread, to a Jewish man (Zusak 394). Hans gives hope to the prisoner that there
are still people out there, willing to help others out. He makes the man feel like a human, alive
and thankful again. However, Hans kindness comes to a halt when he is brutally whipped on the
street by a German soldier (Zusak 394). Even when Hans attempts to be a good samaritan, his
plans are crushed by the authority of the Nazis. Additionally, Hans later on regrets his decision
to help the Jewish man, and worries that Max will be taken away by the Nazis; so he sends Max
away, to escape. When Hans acts, he does not solve injustice he only worsens it, by putting Max
and his family in possible danger. Therefore, good men ultimately do not reach complete justice,
because some things are out of their control. According to an article called Remembering Selma s
Bloody Sunday , Martin Luther King and a group of peaceful protesters for black voting rights

back over the bridge (Klein). The brutal beatings from the troopers ended their rallies, leaving
them unable to fight at that moment. Their attempts to make change would have succeeded if it

The Myth Of Aeschylus The Eumenides
From the classical period until present day, artists have attempted to portray Aeschylus The
Eumenides in various forms of art. However, in order to appreciate the work of these artist one
must first become familiar with the subject of the myth they depict. According to Greek and
Roman mythology, the Furies were female spirits of justice and vengeance. Known especially for
pursuing people who had murdered family members, the Furies punished their victims by driving
them mad. There are various stories on the origin of the Furies. According to Hesiod s Theogony,
the Titan Cronus castrated and threw his father, Uranus, genitalia into the sea. When Cronus blood
fell onto the earth, the Furies were born. Other stories circulated in Greek and... Show more content

Currently housed in the Chrysler Museum of Art in Norfolk, Virginia is one of his most famous
painting The Remorse of Orestes (1862). At the center of the painting, we have Orestes naked
except for a discreet white drapery. With and look of pure anguish he attempts to cover his ears
as the Furies appear to be screaming behind him. Behind him to the left of the painting, we see
Clytemnestra in a white dress, draped in a disarranged red cloak, with a dagger in her heart. As
Clytemnestra is falling, one of the Furies holds her up. It is as if the murder has just taken place
and Orestes is immediately regretting his actions, and one of the Furies is refusing to let
Orestes burry the sense of guilt he feels. Another of the Furies is holding a torch, which similarly
to the last painting discussed, could be symbolic of the Furies enacting justice for the crime of
matricide. All of the Furies are partially clothed and have their characteristic snake like hair. The
positioning of the Orestes body and face looking away from the Furies also adds to the
overarching theme of the painting. It is as if he cannot face what he has done, he cannot even
look at the Furies, let alone try to justify his actions. No matter how he tries to run from the crime,
he will never be able to get away from it. This all encompassing dread is not something that Orestes
can escape even after being pardoned for his crime; it is something that he will have to live with for
the rest of his life. The canvas is 7.5 feet by 9 feet and reflects how important the message of the
painting that the guilty feel an unceasing torment that they cannot escape is to the artist. When
submitting the painting Bouguereau wrote about his painting

The Right Stuff Sparknotes
American Heros in Tom Wolfe s The Right Stuff
Tom Wolfe s The Right Stuff depicts the lives of some of America s hottest pilots and its first
astronauts. These men include Pete Conrad, Chuck Yeager, John Glenn, Gus Grissom, Wally
Shirra, Alan Shepard, Gordon Cooper, Scott Carpenter and Deke Sleyton. Some of these men
were hotshot test pilots at Edwards Air Force Base, and some flew cargo planes. Some had
impeccable service records, while others hadn t flown in a real dog fight for even a second.
Despite these differences in backgrounds and credentials, Tom Wolfeturns each of these nine men
into a separate and individualized hero.
Chuck Yeager and John Glennare probably the most memorable of the nine pilots in The Right Stuff

This anecdote occurs at the beginning of the chapter that introduces Chuck Yeager. The placement
of this story is important because the reader is made aware of Yeager s influence before he knows
who Yeager really is.
Wolfe also uses an anecdote to set John Glenn apart form the rest of the pilots. Wolfe describes
Glenn s personal exercise by saying, He d be out there in full view, on the circular driveway of
the Bachelor Officers Quarters, togged out in his sweat suit, his great freckled face flaming
red...there was no end to it, in front of everybody (110). Glenn s activities were definitely
unusual. The astronauts of the Mercury Project were required to do four hours of exercise per
week. John Glenn far exceeded these guidelines. But according to Wolfe, most fighter pilots, at
least those who have the right stuff, put exercise very low on their list of priorities. This is an
important point because Glenn wasn t a typical fighter jock. It was very obvious to the other pilots
that he was very different.
Another way that Wolfe develops each astronaut into a hero is by revealing details about his
personality through his words. For example, Chuck Yeager is asked about how he feels about being
left out of the Mercury Project. Inflating his own ego, Yeager mentions his own

Superstructure In Slaughterhouse Five
In addition to absurd beliefs, Vonnegut also exaggerates the interactions between social classes and
the simplified portrayals of members of different social classes to reveal the consequences of the
continuation of these classes. From the events of his novels and the causes of those events,
Vonnegut notes that the need for the dissolution of the classes is needed not for the sake of equality
but also for the sake of survival. To begin, Vonnegut makes use of the relationship between the base
and superstructure in his novels. The base refers to the means of production while the
superstructure refers to society as a whole, institutions such as religion and education are members
of the superstructure. In Slaughterhouse Five, the protagonist Billy... Show more content on

Kids these days have a bad rap. Adults who don t regularly interact with high school students may

American adults are convinced that today s youth face a crisis in their values and morals, look at
teenagers with misgiving and view them as undisciplined, disrespectful, and unfriendly (Latham,
2003). One way to help change the attitudes of adults and also encourage youth personal

(Middleton Kelly, 1996). One of the biggest issues stems from a lack of facilitation on the larger
social issues involved with community service. When there is a proper forum to discuss the
experiences they receive while volunteering, students are given a chance to understand how policies
and civic involvement play a direct role in the lives of people in their communities. (Lakin
Mahoney, 2006).
Another issue is content involved in the community service activities. If teenagers are thrust into a
volunteer situation they don t understand or feel that they are simply being assigned made up work,
it can actually have a detrimental effect (Tugend, 2010). One way to make the most of volunteer
opportunities is to specifically design the content around areas of student development. By focusing
on key content areas, students learn how to use their current skill set to navigate new experiences
and difficult situations. (Lakin Mahoney, 2006). A well organized and thoughtful volunteer
opportunity has proven time and time again to be a positive experience for youth. There are many
studies that discuss the character building benefits of service learning. Students who participate
have higher academic achievements, develop critical thinking, problem solving, decision making,
planning and organizing skills and expand their social circles. A student who volunteers is more
likely to volunteer and vote as adult. (Latham, 2003).

Racial Profiling of the Black Male Racial profiling occurs when authority uses someone s race or
ethnicity to decide whether or not to use enforcement. This controversial act is highly illegal and
is mostly caused by stereotypes of certain races and ethnicities. Black males are mostly targeted
due to the color of their skin, the type of car they drive, the genre of music they are listening to
and how they are dressed. Some call this act DWB, driving while black. Black males are stopped

Black males should stop walking around sagging and acting foolish in public. Maybe if people
would not draw attention to themselves, the police would not target them as a threat. The police
are here to keep citizens safe and out of harms way. According to Peter Braham, racial profiling
(which encompasses stop and frisk ) is a matter of fierce argument between the police, who
contend that they are merely responding to crime patterns , and their critics, who contend that
blacks and Hispanics are unfairly targeted by the police. If police officers and crime stoppers did
not try to stop those that look like a threat to society, everyone would be very unsafe. No one

Biodiesel has many environmentally impacts. One of the main benefits is that it can be

when the oil crops grows it gains the same amount of CO2 as is released when the fuel is

The Music Of Music And Music Essay
The same colors of music have been used to paint unique masterpieces throughout history. From
Mozart to Michael Jackson and Beethoven to Bob Marley, the behaviors of sound melodies,
harmonies and chords have been manipulated by individuals to communicate their soul s message
to the masses. The connections between music from the renaissance to contemporary tunes is quite
surprising. The Beatles weren t the first ones to talk about love, life struggles or heartache. These
have been common themes of everyone s lives since Adam and Eve. Bob Marley and Michael
Jacksontook their own personal experiences and paired it with the universal language of music
to connect with people. Through a multitude of albums and singles, these two artists created
timeless pieces of music, some of which are still present on the top charts. Although some
disagree with the fact that their music is timeless, by comparing the music of Michael Jackson
and Bob Marley to music that is known as timeless, one can see the direct correlation. Although
good music is completely opinionated, timeless music has been boiled down to a science.
Enrique Rubio, Engineer, Writer and student of music, takes the lessons conveyed by Mozart and
narrows it down to four reasons why he is such a well known leader in the music world. His
inspiration, desire for constant learning, ability to absorb and adapt knowledge by staying focused

Managed Care Essay
Managed care dominates health care in the United States. It is any health care delivery system that
combines the functions of health insurance and the actual delivery of care, where costs and
utilization of services are controlled by methods such as gatekeeping, case management, and
utilization review. Different types of managed careplans came into development by three major
factors. These factors include choice of providers, different ways of arranging the delivery of
services, and payment and risk sharing. Types of managed care organizations include Health
Maintenance Organizations (HMOs) which consist of five common models that differ according to

Case managers also provide support and information to patients and their families. Next, is
utilization review. `Its main objective is to review each case and determine the most appropriate
level of services, the most appropriate settings in which the services be delivered, the most cost
efficient methods for care delivery and the need for planning of subsequent care. Other methods
used for utilization and control are choice restriction and practice profiling (Douglas, 2003, p.328).
The types of managed care are differentiated by definition, operation, structure, and information
needs. `HMOs were the most common type of MCO until commercial insurance companies
developed PPOs to compete with HMOs (Douglas, 2003, p.331). `HMOs are business entities that
either arrange for or provide health services to an enrolled population after prepayment of a fixed
sum of money, called a premium (Peden, 1998, p.78). There are three characteristics that an HMO
must have. The first is a health care financing and delivery system that provides services for
members in a particular geographic area. Second, is ensured access to a complete range of health
care services, health maintenance, treatment, and routine checkups. Last, health care must be
obtained from voluntary personnel that participate in the HMO. The five HMO models related to

Guns Germs And Steel Analysis
Why do some people get the privilege to live great and others have to suffer everyday? There are
many places in the world today that are not great places to live and grow up but people don t
always have a choice. Guns, germs, and steel by Jared Diamond is written with a purpose to
discuss and reveal why some societies have so much and others have so little. He explains the
theory behind geographical luck and migration. He also talks about how these two things can
lead to technology advances. The reason behind the difference of technology and economy
advances all begins with the geography and the way that guns, germs, and steel were introduced
and how they were introduced. Geography luck is describing how lucky you are with the land
that is provided for example the closer to the fertile crescent the better and more resources you
will have. People don t understand how big of a help it really is to have a greater supply of
resources because by having a selective food resource people are able to store food. Since more
food can be stored and saved people can become more dependent on the land continuously
providing for them instead of worrying about hunting and gathering. For example, New Guinea is
unlucky due to the lack of resources and rich soil which means they have to spend all of their time
hunting and gathering to provide enough food for that day. Hunting and... Show more content on

The civil rights era as a result of cultural forces and political awakenings created bold speakers.
Many of these orators were audacious in their speeches, however few came close to Malcolm X.
Malcolm X carried a fearless attitude presenting speeches that have been etched into American
History, one the of the most iconic of these speeches was Ballot or the Bullet . It embodies ideas
of self determination coupled with an intense call to action. The Ballot or the Bullet is a great
speech because it skillfully straddles the line between inciting violence and inspiring change. The
Ballot or the Bullet is capable of leaving a lasting impact due to its inflammatory statements.
Malcolm Xuses these statements carefully throughout the speech to grab the audience s attention

A Comparison Of Japanese Colonialism InThe Man In The High...
The Man in the High Castle presents a colonized and divided the United States that belongs to
Germany, Japan, and a buffer zone. Philip Dick states that the Japanese colonizers have a reflection
of the western ideals and values. The Japanese mimicked the American culture by developing an
interest in talking English and improvement of their social status. Japanese adopted the American
culture and acquired American historical objects while retaining their customs and attitudes. The
Japanese occupying the region transform San Francisco into a third world America. The High
Castle owned by the Japanese colonialists because of romantic notions it developed its own
attitudes, history, and culture. Childan develops American ideals but he ironically condemns the
Japanese for not understandingand appreciating the real meaning of America. The paper argues
against Childan perceptionon Japanese failing to understand America because of lack of common
ground.
Childan understands the American culture and history which he primarily uses his arts and crafts.
Childan makes American antiques and sells them in the High Castle occupied by Japanese
administrators. It is not ironic that the Japanese failed to understand the real America. The Japanese
understood the American customs because they parasitized the American way of life. Childan
prejudiced against America because of his weak sense of history (Dick, 338). Childan personally
fails to understand about his country and the Japanese on the other hand ape the American customs
and history. As stated by Dick, Childan himself doesn t know about America but the Japanese do
because of developing an interest in the country (338). The Japanese understands the version and
uniqueness of America and not as how Childan perceives their understanding.
Childan claims base on the colonization by Japanese who occupy the region and keep the zone
underdeveloped. However, the thinking that Japanese do not understand the real America is bias.
The Japanese use the effort and money to simulate the American culture and historical objects
(Dick, 335). The ability to imitate and simulate the customs, attitude and culture of the Americans
indicates that the Japanese understand the real America.

Why Is Globalization Important In International Trade
Globalisation could be defined as the growth to a global or worldwide scale. Globalisation has
brought a wave of improvement and development in technology and knowledge, also bought a
change to the world. Many fields of knowledge have been affected, the new technologies have been
built and have been shown to the public. As in the other fields, finance is impacted. For example,
financial markets have been established in many counties, local companies have become the
international companies, well known banks have been known in many countries and so on.
Financial advances have also changed the way of international trade, making transaction in
international tradeis more convenient and comfortable than in the past. Buyers and sellers can make

The Black Man And Bob Ewell, A White, Poor Man
In To Kill a Mockingbird , Harper Lee says, Mockingbirds just make music. They don t eat up
people s gardens; don t nest in corncribs; they don t do one thing but sing their hearts out. That s
why it s a sin to kill a mockingbird (8). She implies that some humans are convicted and seen as
danger but in reality they are the opposite. She writes this book in 1960, where the civil rights of
humans are just about being settled in communities. In the town of Maycomb, the black
community and white community get along in the sense that they do not too. The whites are
skeptical of the blacks and they assume their own thoughts on them, of race. She writes about
these young men, both of different colors but still are victimized by society. Tom robinson, a
black man and Bob Ewell, a white, poor man. These two men are different but they are treated
differently because of what society observes of them. In Narrative of the Life of Frederick
Douglass, the author Frederick details the trajectory of his life because he was a slave. The
society is injustice towards him because of his skin and his social class. he is a worker and an
illiterate person to them. These characters come together as subhumans, who are victimized by
society, causing them come across their true worth. In To Kill a Mockingbird, Lee describes the
injustice of Tom Robinson by the white community. He is convicted of a rape of a white female in
Maycomb. In court, the jury is of all white and in 1930 s segregation

Odyssey (My Interesting Facts)?! The Odyssey is a fictional book about Odysseus trying to get
back home to Ithaca. This epic story was told by Homer, experts do not think he wrote it because
writing only started around 5,000 years ago. Odysseus, a mortal, is the main character of this story.
Odysseus is trying to come home from The Battle of Troy, but he comes in contact with many
gods, mortals, and monsters who hinder or help him get back home. Odysseus leaves his wife and
newly born child because he needed to go fight in a battle. Odysseus tells his wife, Penelope, that
once his son, Telemachus, has a beard on his chin she must remarry. Odysseus is battling time

Anti Semitism And The Holocaust
Matt Gurovich
Mr. Chin
AP Euro 7th Period
Holocaust Research Paper Anti semitism is a concept that has been around in our society for a
few centuries now, and has played a significant role in the world for many of those years. Although
we see anti semitism fade and diminish, its historical symbolism will hover over society for years
to come. The Holocaust, taken place in Eastern Europe, is known to be one of the largest
genocides this world has ever seen, and is the gruesome platform that people relate to anti semitism.
The Holocaust was in reaction to the successes of the Jewish population and the conspiracy of
Zionism. Moreover, the alliance that Nazis had established with Zionists and how they were able to
collaborate in order to accomplish the alienation and extermination of European Jews. This
genocide affected numerous Jewish families, leading to many fatalities and a crackdown on the
discipline of all Nazi soldiers.
Anti semitism gained its resurgence in the eighteenth century and was a concept that heavily
influenced society around the globe, but primarily the European society. Anti semitism all began in
the Enlightenment period with rulers such as Frederick the Great of Prussia, and Joseph II of
Austria, enforcing laws that discriminated the Jewish population. A glimpse of hope was later
founded in the beginning of the 1800s, in which Western Europe had been creating reforms in
favor of Jews. Specifically, in France, a Jew hating nation, Judaism was declared an

Chromium s Role In The Human Body
Chromium is an element that is found abundantly in ocean waters and the earth s crust.1 It exists in
nature in many forms including a metallic and trivalent state. It also exists in a hexavalent state, not
normally found in nature, that is highly toxic.1,2 The food and supplement sources are trivalent
chromium, which has a low toxicity level.1 Interest in chromium s role in human nutrition dates to
the 1950 s where it was first identified as having a role in glucose metabolism.1 Today, it is
considered an essential nutrient for human health.1,3 Chromium s precise role in the human body
is still not well established.3 It is considered to enhance the action of insulin and as such, plays a
role in the metabolism of carbohydrates, protein and fats.3,4 How chromium is involved in this
process is not well demonstrated. Early work identified what is known as glucose tolerance factor in
brewer s yeast and this factor was thought to be a compound of chromium, nicotinic acid and amino
acids. However, its structure has not been characterized.5 More recent work still indicates
chromium enhances the work of insulin, but the chemical means is different. Chromodulin, a
biologically active form of chromium is thought to be produced in response to insulin secretion.
This in turn, increases chromium... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The daily adequate intake of chromium for adults aged 19 50 is 35mcg for men, and 25mcg for
women who are not pregnant of lactating.6 Because food sources of chromium are so widespread,
most adults meet these amounts.3 Given this, true deficiency is rarely seen outside of parenteral
nutrition that has not been supplemented with chromium.5 Symptoms of deficiency include weight
loss, peripheral neuropathy, elevated blood glucose and insulin resistance.5 However, when
chromium was added to parenteral nutrition experimentally, the amounts used were considered to
be less nutritional and more pharmacological and this calls some to question whether chromium is
in fact an essential

My Mother who Came from China, She Never Saw the Snow
Every person in the world has struggles, but some have more than others. Some people work for
multiple hours for very little pay. Immigrant factory workers rarely get the chance to enjoy the
better qualities in life. In the poem, My Mother, Who Came from China Where She Never Saw
Snow , Laureen Mar tells about an Immigrant mother from china works in a factoryfor very little
pay. She had worked for twenty five years and never gotten a raise. In the poem Laureen Mar uses
imagery, irony, and punctuation to demonstrate the harshness that immigrant factory workers are
put through.
The description of the factory and workers helps demonstrate what kind of working conditions
there were. Laureen s description details the factory to show the dark and gloomy environment
they work in every day. The narrator describes the room as a standard factory, In the huge,
rectangular room, the ceiling / A machinery of pipes and fluorescent lights (lines 1 2).
Not only is the environment depressing, but the workers also have poor working conditions.
Consequently the workers have adapted to the environment, but also adapted to the relentless
work. The female workers day in and day out work constantly, conditioned to do the same thing
over and over. Laureen describes, Ten rows of women hunch over machines, / their knees pressing
against pedals / and pushing the shiny fabric thick as tongues / through metal and thread (3 5).
Repeatedly the women work on a part of the coat as if they were

The merged company adopted primarily the simple, flexible information systems and business
processes of America West. It eliminated systems and business processes for carrying hazardous
materials and handling unaccompanied minors on connecting flights because their costs were too
high relative to the benefits they provided. The company only retained a few of the old US
Airways processes and systems, such as an application for determining where and when to
purchase fuel or check in applications to support international routes. The new US Airways is now
the fifth largest carrier in the United States and the world s largest low cost airline. Will it be
successful? It s still too early to tell. It cost around $75 to $80 million to integrate the information

Budgeting and Compliance Issues in Healthcare
Budgeting and Compliance Budgeting and compliance issues are very important to healthcare.
Budgeting ensures the quality of care given to patients, what technologies the hospital has
available, and how staff gets paid, determining raises and benefits. Waste of time and supplies are
damaging to the budget. Compliance issues are what determine the standards of care given to
patients. They also set standards for safety of both patients and staff. Non compliance can cause
fines for the facility and loss of accreditation, which in turn causes losses of reimbursements from
Medicare, Medicaid, and insurance. Safety issues can cause people to get hurt and, in turn, cause
lawsuits for individuals and the organization. The costof lawsuits and employee injuries can be very
damaging to a budget. Healthcare workers also stand the chance of consequences in
noncompliance issues. Fines, legal consequences, termination, and lose of professional licenses
can occur. Both operational and capital budgets are made up by the CFO, Chief Financial
Officer, and approved by the CEO, Chief Executive Officer, and the Board of Directors.
(Operational Review of the Health Care Corporation of St Johns, 2002) The operational budget is
based on projected costs, such as staff, supplies, administration, and technology costs, and projected
revenue from patient services and investments. They are usually made up for the organization s
fiscal year. The capital budget is a long term budget that is based on

Racism In African American History
Unfortunately, racism had existed throughout human history. Both Native and African American
have a complicated history of racism that continues to be unresolved to this day. It is regularly
defined as the oppression or discrimination against a minority group by a dominant group based on
skin color, place of birth, and more. However, these arguments are based on the illusion of race; in
fact, some contemporary scientists could argue that the classification of races used today is
inadequate and that there are more meticulous and proper ways of categorizing humans (Pounder,
et al., 2003). What may seem to be considerable racial differences to some people, such as skin
color, hair, and facial shape, are not of much scientific significance. It

  • 2. Auden Vs Ginsberg Literature has a lengthy history of odds and ends that get categorized by critics as unworthy of widespread study, yet some are the most brilliant statements of their time. W. H. Auden s book length poem The Age of Anxiety won the Pulitzer Prize for Poetry in 1948. It, along with Allen Ginsberg s poem Howl, are diamonds that are often disregarded by literary critics and the public as worthless rough. Each piece was a major breakthrough in its time. Auden and Ginsberg both attempted to define the period of time and turmoil that they lived in as members of the other in their respective societies. Both make booming battle cries for a generation, fit well into places of deserved canonical respect, and receive influence from political and personal... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Its worth is hotly debated. W. B. Yeats and T. S. Eliot were contemporaries of Auden s, and being a part of that legendary group is close to an automatic deservance of being a canonical poet. Alternate views from critics either list him as the worst of the three, yet others argue strongly that Auden was the greatest poet of the entire 20th century for what he could do with words and form. Content in the book length poem speak volumes of the talent that the American immigrant had. He created something that is hotly debated as both a failure and his greatest accomplishment, and uncertainty in making that decision make it all the more worthy to be in the canon. His uncertainty is the only real part of the poem as Auden s character laments that The less I feel/The more I mind (commentary mag). The best works are pieces that make one think about their worth. Characters that seem to mean little actually have a lot to say with what they do as well as their words. Little happens, but the characters actions comment on major themes of the human being. Halting speeches and words take the reader inside of the mind as frailties become clear. What this poem has to say is vastly important once one gets past the errors in form. Psychological and social problems are concerns that Age of Anxiety covers. Verse should be neither too free nor too formed, as human experience is also neither: breath and ... A Renaissance Time Traveler A Renaissance Time Traveler As I have come to find myself in this strange city called New York, I can not help but be amazed at such miraculous feats that men have accomplished. Such talent at the hands of their architects, that can only be seen if only in a dream. For we did not conceive of this new idea. I have been blessed with such an opportunity, to view the art of the modern man. I am taken to a location called the SoHo Contemporary Art Museum, where I am placed before a picture of a man by the name of Charlie Chaplin. As I study the painting, the colors catch my eye in ways that I am not accustomed to. They are vibrant and catch the viewer s eye in such a way that makes your eyes gaze outwards, but then lures them back to the image of the man standing in the center. The leaflet that was given includes the information that this work of art was constructed by a man of the name of Burton Morris and that this man is seen as somewhat of a great figure in the eyes of these people. I am not used to seeing multitudes of paintings or sculpters of images that are not of the depicting nature of the Holy Family, or of our Lord Christ. I dare say these people seem to be of the character of nonbelief. A setting which I am not quite acquainted with. This man in the painting expresses a natural form of well being. • 4. Story Of An Hour Setting Essay Uses of Setting in The Story of an Hour Setting plays an extremely important role in all stories as a device to help create the situation characters are in, but sometimes the setting itself tells a story. Within Kate Chopin s The Story of an Hour the setting is used to not only reveal the feelings Louise Mallard has about her marriage, but also Victorian era marriages as a whole. The Story of an Hour is a short story about a woman who was told her husband was dead. People are expecting a reaction of grief from her, due to the fact that those around her believe she is a perfect Victorian housewife. However, she can t help but feel the weight of the world lifted off of her shoulders as her obligations to her marriage are finally coming to an end. Through Kate Chopin s use of limited setting with Mrs. Mallard s room, the staircase, and the window of this house, an idea of Victorian Era marriages is displayed. While Mrs. Mallard is on the staircase she always keeps her true feelings to herself and shows a fake version which adheres to the norms that not only her sister but also her husband s friend are expecting of her. This is shown later in the story when it is revealed to the reader that she actually was not happy with her marriage and was excited to hear of her husband s death. Chopin uses the staircase to represent a place where other s opinions affect how women at the time acted, alluding to the societal norms of the Victorian ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Analysis Of The Book The Lottery Essay When I think of the lottery, I think of a game basically where they choose one number and something or something gets chosen. * Setting can best be defined as: B. Thy physical location, time, and social environment in which a story takes place. In the first paragraph, the setting is described as a beautiful sunny day that is during the summer. Everything is in bloom and the grass is green. Basically, during this first paragraph, the author describes it as a perfect day which shows how nice it is and making the reader not realize what the townspeople are actually going to do, which is the opposite of how this day really is. This sets a peaceful and happy tone and atmosphere throughout the beginning of the story. Mood can best be defined as: A. The emotional effect or feeling that a text creates in a reader. The mood that the villagers seem to be in is a happy and normal mood because they feel that the lottery is just another normal day. They are neither sad nor angry, just content and used to the tradition of doing the lottery. They act like nothing is wrong and do not care who dies. I can tell that they are in a content mood because they don t care about doing the lottery and feel that it is an important part of their lives. The three conceived the company, Apple Computer Inc, on April 1, 1976, in Job s parent s garage and from then on they would create a technological cultural phenomenon. Fast forward to January 9, 2007, and the first generation iPhonewas released which revolutionized the smartphone as we know it today as it was the first smartphone to feature an adaptive touch screen display. I think the strong morals and values I hold today were largely created by my upbringing. But, I do think I used to simply claim to be a Christian because of my family. If my parents are Christian that must mean I m a Christian, right? Going to college made me realize that my faith is something that I have to make my own. My faith is not necessarily my parents faith. I have to make a decision on what I believe and what I stand for, separate from my family. Throughout high school I think I had different points of feeling spiritual highs, but felt like my faith was lukewarm. • 11. Theme Of Psychoanism In Wuthering Heights Wuthering Heights, published by Emily BrontГ« in 1847, tells a story of the history of Wuthering Heights and the tragic love story that precedes it. The two central settings of the work, Thrushcross Grange, and Wuthering Heights represent Freud s structural model of the human psyche: the id and the superego. Because Freud s structural model presents the notion that internal conflict is inevitable, the two settings illustrate the complexities of the human subconscious and the characters difficulty in navigating them. In BrontГ« s Wuthering Heights, the namesake setting of the book represents the Freudian id, by reason of its primitive aspect in the work. In psychoanalytic theory, the id is responsible for the primal instincts in humans, and almost always seeks immediate fulfillment. Early on in the novel, the primal nature of Wuthering Heights exposes itself: the Gothic architecture of the house gives off a sense of foreboding, the inside of the home lacks conventional furnishings, meat hangs from the kitchen ceiling, and Lockwood, the narrator, notices a pile of dead rabbits in the living room. Lockwood calls the atmosphere surrounding the house a tumult to which its station is exposed in stormy weather (5). The description of the home reveals an underlying barbarity to it, similar to the id. The darkness in the Heights mirrors location of the id in the human subconscious; the id is located deep in the recesses of the human mind, so many humans who engage the id have no way to resist it. The tone of the work shrouds the Heights in an antagonistic darkness, and the lack of conventionality coupled with the turbulent weather serves as a physical manifestation of the id. In contrast, Thrushcross Grange represents the superego due to the air of controlled refinement surrounding the home. Freud s model defines the superego as the part of the mind that acts as a critical self conscious, reflecting social standards learned through parents and teachers. The refined nature of the house and its adherence to societal standards shows in its physical appearance. As he described the appearance of Thrushcross Grange in the novel Heathcliff should have thought [himself] in heaven , (48). Unlike the Heights, the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 12. `` Faking Nature `` By Robert Elliot Authenticity holds intrinsic value. The process of destroying something to then later recreate it removes its authenticity and in turn, its intrinsic value. In his essay, Faking Nature, Robert Elliot argues that the recreation of natural landscapes after human destruction strips nature of its value. Rather than disrupting and restoring landscapes, Elliot emphasizes the priority should be preserving it. Elliot rejects the argument of the restoration thesis which is the claim that a recreation of a destroyed entity has equal valueto the original entity. This is provided the restoration is attainable and economically feasible. His argument is the value of the natural can never fully be restored despite advances of technology utilized by engineers. Elliot defines natural as unmodified by human activity (Elliot 80). Elliot acknowledges natural does not equate value nor is it inherently better than non natural. Elliot uses the examples of disease and environmental disasters to show that natural occurrences may not be good. There are cases where human involvement enhances naturebut it is when the human disruption intends to replace a constitutionally good natural aspect that reduction in the value occurs. The depreciation of this value stems from the necessity of its genesis. It is an object s history, its origins, its story, and its continuity of the past that instills the worth of nature (Elliot 83). Advantages And Disadvantages Of Ordinary Portland Cement General Ordinary Portland cement (OPC) is most widely used cementitious material and is the second most consumed resource in the world as it forms the basic ingredient in concrete and Bricklayer Joseph Aspdin of Leeds, England first prepared Portland cement early in the 19th century by sweltering powdered limestone and clay in his kitchen stove [13]; this laid the foundation for an industry to develop a binder called ordinary Portland cement. The major applications of concrete in the construction field such as infrastructure, habitation and transportation have greatly influenced in affecting the economic progress by improving the stability and quality of life to a very wide extent. However, inherent disadvantages are that production of Ordinary Portland cement (OPC) using raw materials such as limestone and clay are depleting and quarrying of them is causing the source for environmental degradation. The first members of this organization made use of nonviolent ways of protests such as sitting in and occupation of certain public places. The organization was successful in making other people aware of the injustices that black people were usually exposed to. Moreover, SNCC supported more nonviolent protests such as the Freedom Rides in 1961 and the March on Washington in 1963 which paved the way for the amendment of the Civil Rights Act of 1964. • 16. Theme Of Greed In The Hobbit Greed is a common, yet detrimental factor in society today. All around the world people experience this type of attribute, whether it is for power or for the simple concept of desiring more in life. In order to further this prevalent theme, Peter Jackson created the film The Hobbit Desolation of Smaug, in 2013. In this film, he continued the adventure of Bilbo Bagginsand the dwarves and set them off to reclaim their ancient dwarven city guarded by the dragon, Smaug. Throughout the entire movie, the characters face many tough obstacles, those being orcs, elves and most importantly the evil dragon. Those elves actually came to their rescue later on in the movie, proving their loyalty. Those noble elves were Tauriel and Legolas. Also, a major character in the movie was Gandalf, which was the powerful wizard. In the movie, he aided in their adventure by leading them to the proper trail while also providing them with many struggles they may encounter on the way. While all of the characters and setting play a key role in shaping the movie as a whole, the theme of greed is a much greater aspect throughout the film. Peter Jackson implements personification, symbolism, and foreshadowing in his movie in order to point his audience towards the bigger message, greed is the root of all evil. To provide his message with further reasoning, Jackson employed the rhetorical device of personification. This device is prevalent throughout the entire movie as he gives human characteristics to animals and also different species. By doing so he not only added another rhetorical device to his film but he most importantly, furthered his theme by showing how it is thought about by different characters in the movie, along with their own perspectives on the matter. For example, in the movie the dragon is a prime representation of greed. During one scene in the movie you see this characteristic come into play when all that is surrounding the dragon is gold and many treasures, far more than you could ever imagine. The dragon simply kills for treasure, collects treasure, and does nothing but lie upon it and prove his worth to those surrounding him. This technique showed the audience how characters and creatures in a certain film exhibit ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

It was a great time for the scholars and philosophers to introduce democracy and justice through deliberations of liberty and equality. One of the most well known philosopher, Thomas Hobbes, is known for his political thoughts. He is a kind of a guy that thinks about how people could actually live their life ignoring the conflicts happening around them. He believes that people have their own right to do whatever they desire by not what they are told to do. He also believes that a system of governing should be an individual person rather than a group from a foreign country asking them to do as they pleased. In order for him to do that, he wrote a book. His book is called Leviathan . In that book it is stated that people are incapable of ruling themselves, primarily because humans are naturally self centered and quarrelsome and need the iron fist of a strong leader. Hobbes was not more effective than following philosophes like Voltaire, Montesquieu, and Rousseau. They were more confident about democracy. Their ideas were straight to the point and they support questions that were negatively viewed about absolute monarch. However, Hans kindness comes to a halt when he is brutally whipped on the street by a German soldier (Zusak 394). Even when Hans attempts to be a good samaritan, his plans are crushed by the authority of the Nazis. When Hans acts, he does not solve injustice he only worsens it, by putting Max and his family in possible danger. Currently housed in the Chrysler Museum of Art in Norfolk, Virginia is one of his most famous painting The Remorse of Orestes (1862). At the center of the painting, we have Orestes naked except for a discreet white drapery. With and look of pure anguish he attempts to cover his ears as the Furies appear to be screaming behind him. Behind him to the left of the painting, we see Clytemnestra in a white dress, draped in a disarranged red cloak, with a dagger in her heart. As Clytemnestra is falling, one of the Furies holds her up. It is as if the murder has just taken place and Orestes is immediately regretting his actions, and one of the Furies is refusing to let Orestes burry the sense of guilt he feels. Another of the Furies is holding a torch, which similarly to the last painting discussed, could be symbolic of the Furies enacting justice for the crime of matricide. All of the Furies are partially clothed and have their characteristic snake like hair. The positioning of the Orestes body and face looking away from the Furies also adds to the overarching theme of the painting. It is as if he cannot face what he has done, he cannot even look at the Furies, let alone try to justify his actions. No matter how he tries to run from the crime, he will never be able to get away from it. This all encompassing dread is not something that Orestes can escape even after being pardoned for his crime; it is something that he will have to live with for the rest of his life. The canvas is 7.5 feet by 9 feet and reflects how important the message of the painting that the guilty feel an unceasing torment that they cannot escape is to the artist. Wolfe describes Glenn s personal exercise by saying, He d be out there in full view, on the circular driveway of the Bachelor Officers Quarters, togged out in his sweat suit, his great freckled face flaming red...there was no end to it, in front of everybody (110). Glenn s activities were definitely unusual. The astronauts of the Mercury Project were required to do four hours of exercise per week. John Glenn far exceeded these guidelines. But according to Wolfe, most fighter pilots, at least those who have the right stuff, put exercise very low on their list of priorities. This is an important point because Glenn wasn t a typical fighter jock. It was very obvious to the other pilots that he was very different. The Japanese understood the American customs because they parasitized the American way of life. Childan prejudiced against America because of his weak sense of history (Dick, 338). Childan personally fails to understand about his country and the Japanese on the other hand ape the American customs and history. As stated by Dick, Childan himself doesn t know about America but the Japanese do because of developing an interest in the country (338). The Japanese understands the version and uniqueness of America and not as how Childan perceives their understanding. Childan claims base on the colonization by Japanese who occupy the region and keep the zone underdeveloped. However, the thinking that Japanese do not understand the real America is bias. The Japanese use the effort and money to simulate the American culture and historical objects (Dick, 335). The ability to imitate and simulate the customs, attitude and culture of the Americans indicates that the Japanese understand the real America. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 40. The Black Man And Bob Ewell, A White, Poor Man In To Kill a Mockingbird , Harper Lee says, Mockingbirds just make music. They don t eat up people s gardens; don t nest in corncribs; they don t do one thing but sing their hearts out. That s why it s a sin to kill a mockingbird (8). She implies that some humans are convicted and seen as danger but in reality they are the opposite. She writes this book in 1960, where the civil rights of humans are just about being settled in communities. In the town of Maycomb, the black community and white community get along in the sense that they do not too. The whites are skeptical of the blacks and they assume their own thoughts on them, of race. She writes about these young men, both of different colors but still are victimized by society. Tom robinson, a black man and Bob Ewell, a white, poor man. These two men are different but they are treated differently because of what society observes of them. In Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglass, the author Frederick details the trajectory of his life because he was a slave. The society is injustice towards him because of his skin and his social class. he is a worker and an illiterate person to them. These characters come together as subhumans, who are victimized by society, causing them come across their true worth. In To Kill a Mockingbird, Lee describes the injustice of Tom Robinson by the white community. He is convicted of a rape of a white female in Maycomb. Although we see anti semitism fade and diminish, its historical symbolism will hover over society for years to come. The Holocaust, taken place in Eastern Europe, is known to be one of the largest genocides this world has ever seen, and is the gruesome platform that people relate to anti semitism. The Holocaust was in reaction to the successes of the Jewish population and the conspiracy of Zionism. Moreover, the alliance that Nazis had established with Zionists and how they were able to collaborate in order to accomplish the alienation and extermination of European Jews. This genocide affected numerous Jewish families, leading to many fatalities and a crackdown on the discipline of all Nazi soldiers. • 44. Chromium s Role In The Human Body Chromium is an element that is found abundantly in ocean waters and the earth s crust.1 It exists in nature in many forms including a metallic and trivalent state. It also exists in a hexavalent state, not normally found in nature, that is highly toxic.1,2 The food and supplement sources are trivalent chromium, which has a low toxicity level.1 Interest in chromium s role in human nutrition dates to the 1950 s where it was first identified as having a role in glucose metabolism.1 Today, it is considered an essential nutrient for human health.1,3 Chromium s precise role in the human body is still not well established.3 It is considered to enhance the action of insulin and as such, plays a role in the metabolism of carbohydrates, protein and fats.3,4 How chromium is involved in this process is not well demonstrated. Early work identified what is known as glucose tolerance factor in brewer s yeast and this factor was thought to be a compound of chromium, nicotinic acid and amino acids. However, its structure has not been characterized.5 More recent work still indicates chromium enhances the work of insulin, but the chemical means is different. Budgeting ensures the quality of care given to patients, what technologies the hospital has available, and how staff gets paid, determining raises and benefits. Waste of time and supplies are damaging to the budget. Compliance issues are what determine the standards of care given to patients. They also set standards for safety of both patients and staff. Safety issues can cause people to get hurt and, in turn, cause lawsuits for individuals and the organization. The costof lawsuits and employee injuries can be very damaging to a budget. Healthcare workers also stand the chance of consequences in noncompliance issues. Fines, legal consequences, termination, and lose of professional licenses can occur. Both Native and African American have a complicated history of racism that continues to be unresolved to this day. It is regularly defined as the oppression or discrimination against a minority group by a dominant group based on skin color, place of birth, and more. However, these arguments are based on the illusion of race; in fact, some contemporary scientists could argue that the classification of races used today is inadequate and that there are more meticulous and proper ways of categorizing humans (Pounder, et al., 2003). What may seem to be considerable racial differences to some people, such as skin color, hair, and facial shape, are not of much scientific significance. It ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
