molecular distillation and packed columm distillationkuldeepp4652
Theory of molecular distillation:-
The mean free path of a molecule is defined as the average distance through which a molecule can move without coming into collision with another. For material that are regarded as non volatile under ordinary conditions of temperature and pressure are generally removed by this by increasing the mean free path.
Characteristics of the molecular distillation process:-
Very high vacuum
Evaporating surface must be close to the condensing surface
The liquid area is large to avoid boiling and evolution of the vapors is from surface only.
Packed distillation columns
Packed columns are used for distillation, gas absorption and liquid-liquid extraction.
The gas-liquid contact in a packed column is continuous, not stage-wise, as in a plate column. The liquid flows down in the column over a packing surface and the vapor (or the gas) movescounter-currently, up the column. The performance of a packed column is very dependent onthe maintenance of good liquid and gas distribution through the packed bed, and this is animportant consideration in packed column design
Gas absorption in packed tower with Raschig rings packingsBarhm Mohamad
Gas absorption is mass transfer operation where one or more species is removed from
a gaseous stream by dissoluti on in a l iquid. Packed tower with Raschig Rings
packings is used in the experiment The component that is extracted from the gaseous
stream is known as solute and the component that extracting the solute is known as
solvent. Packed column is one of the com m only use d gas absorption equipment.
Packed column can be operated in co current as well as counter currently.
Counter current flow is preferable since the contact time between the liquid and gas is
greater. This equipment usually consists of a cylindrical column c ontaining a gas inlet
and distributing space at the bottom, a liquid inlet and a packing or filing in the tower.
One of the most popular methods of moving solids in the chemical industry is pneumatic conveying. Pneumatic conveying refers to the moving of solids suspended in or forced by a gas stream through horizontal and/or vertical pipes. Pneumatic conveying can be used for particles ranging from fine powders to pellets and bulk densities of 16 to 3200 kg/m3 (1 to 200 lb/ft3).

Episode 35 : Design Approach to Dilute Phase Pneumatic Conveying
For many years gases have been used successfully in industry to transport a wide range of particulate solids - from wheat flour to wheat grain and plastic chips to coal.
The pneumatic transport of particulate solids is broadly classified into two flow regimes: dilute (or lean) phase and dense phase

Applying Gate Valves with Rotary Airlocks in Pneumatic Conveying SystemsVortex
Whether it be agriculture, chemicals, food, minerals, plastics, or other industry sectors, the most common practice for handling dry bulk solids in a dilute-phase production process is to feed material from a silo through a rotary airlock and into a positive pressure pneumatic conveying system. This material conveying method is most logical across industries due to its efficiencies and relative affordability. As most pneumatic conveying systems are equipped to support pressures of no greater than 15 psig (1 bar), the airlock is a standardized mechanism that supports these benefits and possesses the versatility to handle most dry bulk materials, making it a popular option.
However, while such a configuration is beneficial for the movement of material from multiple silos through a single conveying system, flaws in the system’s design may negatively impact the overall performance of a manufacturing process.

CFD Simulation of By-pass Flow in a HRSG module by R&R Consult.pptxR&R Consult
CFD analysis is incredibly effective at solving mysteries and improving the performance of complex systems!
Here's a great example: At a large natural gas-fired power plant, where they use waste heat to generate steam and energy, they were puzzled that their boiler wasn't producing as much steam as expected.
R&R and Tetra Engineering Group Inc. were asked to solve the issue with reduced steam production.
An inspection had shown that a significant amount of hot flue gas was bypassing the boiler tubes, where the heat was supposed to be transferred.
R&R Consult conducted a CFD analysis, which revealed that 6.3% of the flue gas was bypassing the boiler tubes without transferring heat. The analysis also showed that the flue gas was instead being directed along the sides of the boiler and between the modules that were supposed to capture the heat. This was the cause of the reduced performance.
Based on our results, Tetra Engineering installed covering plates to reduce the bypass flow. This improved the boiler's performance and increased electricity production.
It is always satisfying when we can help solve complex challenges like this. Do your systems also need a check-up or optimization? Give us a call!
Work done in cooperation with James Malloy and David Moelling from Tetra Engineering.

Cosmetic shop management system project report.pdfKamal Acharya
Buying new cosmetic products is difficult. It can even be scary for those who have sensitive skin and are prone to skin trouble. The information needed to alleviate this problem is on the back of each product, but it's thought to interpret those ingredient lists unless you have a background in chemistry.
Instead of buying and hoping for the best, we can use data science to help us predict which products may be good fits for us. It includes various function programs to do the above mentioned tasks.
Data file handling has been effectively used in the program.
The automated cosmetic shop management system should deal with the automation of general workflow and administration process of the shop. The main processes of the system focus on customer's request where the system is able to search the most appropriate products and deliver it to the customers. It should help the employees to quickly identify the list of cosmetic product that have reached the minimum quantity and also keep a track of expired date for each cosmetic product. It should help the employees to find the rack number in which the product is placed. It is also Faster and more efficient way.

2. It is a mass transfer operation in which one or
more gas solutes is removed by dissolution in a
liquid.
The inert gas in the gas mixture is called “carrier
gas”.
In the absorption process of ammonia from air-
ammonia mixture by water, air is carrier gas,
ammonia is „solute” and water is absorbent.
3. An intimate contact between solute gas and
absorbent liquid is achieved in a suitable
absorption equipment, namely, tray tower,
packed column, spray tower, venture scrubber,
etc.
Desorption or stripping operation is the reverse
of absorption. Absorption operation is of two
types; physical and chemical.

𝑆𝑆𝑆𝑆𝑆𝑆𝑆𝑆𝑆 = 𝑆𝑆𝑆𝑆𝑆𝑆 𝑆𝑆𝑆𝑆𝑆𝑆𝑆𝑆 𝑆𝑆
𝑆𝑆𝑆𝑆𝑆𝑆𝑆𝑆𝑆
+
𝑆𝑆𝑆𝑆𝑆𝑆𝑆 𝑆𝑆𝑆.
4. Absorption and stripping (as well as
distillation) operations are usually carried out
in vertical, cylindrical columns or towers in
which devices such as plates or packing
elements are placed.
The gas and liquid normally flow
countercurrently, and the devices provide the
contacting interfacial surface through which
mass transfer takes place (cocurrent flow is also
possible from economic standpoint).
5. Operations in which one or more components of a
gas phase are absorbed into a liquid phase are
common throughout the chemical process industries
and frequently serve to achieve desired reactions
among components in the two phases (Lee & Tsui,
1999).
Such operations are often called reactive absorption
because of the combination of reaction and
absorptive mass transport.
As an example, in the absorption of carbon dioxide
by caustic soda, the carbon dioxide reacts directly
with the caustic soda.
6. An advantage of absorption plus reaction is the
increase in the mass-transfer coefficient.
This may be due to a greater effective
interfacial area.
The process hydrodynamics can also be
directly involved via correlations for the hold-
up, pressure drop, and mass transfer
coefficients, etc.
ADVANTAGE :
7.
8. Generally , the gas which to be absorbed in the
liquid which is sparged to the bottom of the
column with the help of carrier gas.
The carrier gas which has insoluble in the liquid
solvent.
The liquid solvent is entered at the top side
countercurrently.
At the some height, the packing material is set
for mass transfer operation where absorption
occurs.
9. The packing either be Regular or Random
based on industrial requirement.
Abbility of absorption mainly depends on
choice of solvent however it will be good
prefered for gases or not.
12. The basic expressions for material balances and
their graphical interpretations will be
presented for countercurrent flow (a similar
method may be used for cocurrent flow).
The gas stream at any point in the tower
consists of G total moles/hr, made up of
diffusing solute A of mole fraction yA, partial
pressure pA, or mole ratio YA, and non-
diffusing, essentially insoluble gas GS
moles/hr. The relationships among these are:
13. Similarly the liquid stream consists of L total
moles/hr, containing xA mole fraction soluble
gas, or mole ratio XA, and essentially non-
volatile solvent LS moles/hr. The relationships
among them are:
Thus the material balance (for y and x subscript
A is omitted):
which is rearranged for the gas phase mole
fraction of y as:
14. It is easy to prove that the second parts of the
last two equations are equal, by writing a
material balance on the whole equipment
which can be rearranged as follows:
15. The liquid and gas compositions in a packed
tower changes continuously throughout the
height.
The composition of solute from entry to exit of
the packed tower is represented by operating
line and every point indicates some location in
the packed tower.
On the other hand, in tray tower, few points
(number of trays) in the operating line
represents the conditions in the trays.
16. Height Equivalent to Theoretical Plate::::::
For a specified separation job, in packed tower,
the height of packing is to be determined and
in tray tower, numbers of ideal trays are
determined.
The ratio between packing height to number of
trays required for the same separation is called
height equivalent to theoretical plate (HETP)
17.
18. • Relatively low pressure drop

transfer coefficient and high mass transfer rate

try numbers capable of improving mass
transfer without purchasing a new piece of
equipment

atmospheres.
• Ability to collect particles as well as gases
• Collected substances may be recovered by
distillation

problem (remark: IPPC)
• Product collected wet
• Particulates deposition possibly causing
plugging of the bed or the plates
• Fibreglass-reinforced plastic is sensitive to
temperature
• Relatively high maintenance cost
• Must be protected from freezing (if operated in
outside)
