Kyran evaluated their personal project of creating a holiday magazine. Their research strengths included looking at professional magazines for examples and researching top holiday destinations for 2020. Weaknesses were not researching commonly used fonts. Planning strengths were practicing color schemes and researching highly rated destinations. A weakness was not planning a price range. Time management was moderate but room for improvement remained. Technical qualities included big titles, clear backgrounds, and writing in spaces. Creativity could have been improved by adding more details. The work appealed to younger audiences with destinations and wealthier societies with glamorous writing. Peer feedback noted likes and improvements that could be made.

In this talk, we look at how to incorporate content throughout the design process, including:
- Sketching with words
- Wireframing the right amount of content
- Polishing content in high-fidelity mockups

2024.06.01 Introducing a competency framework for languag learning materials ...Sandy Millin
http://sandymillin.wordpress.com/iateflwebinar2024
Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.

3. Research
Strengths
• I looked at the professional holiday magazine for examples before I started
my work which made my work a lot more realistic
• I looked at the best holiday destinations for 2020 for me to help me get my
destinations for this project
Weaknesses
• I could of researched what fonts the company's use in their magazines
4. Planning
Strengths
• When I was planning I practiced using different colour schemes which
helped me in the end to find the right colours
• I looked at different destinations which were rated highly which looked
well in my work
weaknesses
• I didn’t plan a price range which made it a bit of a random place magazine
• I needed to do more planning overall
5. Time Management
I feel that I have done my work at a moderate pace and that I have caught up
well to say I joined late but I do admit there is still room for improvement as I
haven’t done my work as well as I could of but I feel I will improve as the year
goes on.
If I put more time into my work I feel like I would get a much greater grade
7. Aesthetic Qualities
I think my work looks good and I think it is creative
but not as creative as I could have been, if I had to
do it again I would defiantly add more to it by filling
in the space below the best destinations 2020 with
details of the holiday
8. Audience Appeal
I appealed to a
younger
audience with
the destination
The title appeals to the
richer society with the
glamours writing
It appals to people
who want to follow
trends with the sub
title being best
holidays 2020
