- 1. Q7 - LOOKING BACK AT YOUR PRELIMINARY TASK, WHAT DO YOU FEEL YOU HAVE LEARNT IN THE PROGRESSION FROM IT BEING A FULL PRODUCT?

- 3. • In the prelim task, one of the criticisms we received was that the font colour was not clearly visible and that the font looked plain. When I came to create my front cover, I decided that I was going to make sure that the font was visible by planning the colour scheme before hand and making sure that the colours worked well together. Along with this, when I had to pick a font, instead of using the default fonts on photoshop, I decided to search the internet on dafonts.com to find a suitable font that would match my genre well and to find one that was unique and exciting. • When I designed the masthead, I thought that it worked well with the coloured squares behind in the college colours so that it suited the genre. However, after looking at my magazine front cover, I realised that the masthead was far too boring and small and that the coloured squares overpowered it a lot and made it blend in with the background towards the bottom. • I did like the colour scheme as I felt like it went well together as the colour palette was kept simple, however I now think that I put more thought into my magazine as the college magazine looks washed out and nothing really grabs the readers attention. Along with this, the white text over the light background does not work as it blends in and is hard to read, therefore we should have placed boxes behind the text.
- 5. • One of the main issues we had with the prelim content page was that the space wasn’t being filled and it looked unfinished. With my work I decided that as my genre was punk, it would have to be busy otherwise it wouldn’t work well together and look too simple. • In my prelim task I had not done much research on college magazines, therefore the details were kept to a minimum and I had not included much. When it came to doing my music magazine, I was sure to research others like Kerrang!, which allowed me to add things such as website links, shoutouts, editors notes and more things relating to music. • Throughout my development, the layout of both of my magazines have changed a lot. The prelim task was at the start when I didn’t have much use at photoshop and I wasn’t very confident, and I feel as if that it shown through my work. The space in the prelim task is not used well, and the positioning of the sub images is not creative and makes the content page look boring and not very appealing. When it came to my music magazine, I made sure that I placed the sub images next to the featured article they were for and that all the important information was kept in the right place, ie the editors note was kept at the bottom as that is where it is traditionally found.
