This document discusses shallow gas and subsea well control. For shallow gas kicks, the steps are to pick up the kelly, shut down pumps, check for flow, open the diverter valve if flowing, and close the annular. Then start circulating heavy mud with both pumps and if that runs out, pump sea water until the well is under control. For subsea wells, the BOP stack is on the sea floor and communication goes through the riser to the surface. Choke and kill lines are used to circulate kicks, but heave of the vessel can affect PVT and flow indicators. The kill riser must also be circulated after killing the well.
