MOSHIACH IN THE PARSHA
וָאֶתְחַנַּן אֶל יְהוָה בָּעֵת הַהִוא לֵאמֹר" )דברים ג, כג(
In the beginning of Parshas Va'eschanan, Moshe Rabeinu
pleads with Hashem to let him into Eretz Yisroel. Why did
Moshe have such a strong desire to enter into Eretz Yisroel?
The Gemora answers, [rough quote] "Moshe said: There are
many Mitzvos which cannot be performed outside of Eretz
Yisroel. I want to enter Eretz Yisroel in order that they all be
fulfilled by me".
At first glance, we might accept this answer to mean that
Moshe wanted to enter Eretz Yisroel for his personal benefit,
for the great Zechus of fulfilling all the Mitzvos. However, the
Gemora did not write "I want to enter Eretz Yisroel in order to
fulfill them". The Gemora wrote "I want to enter Eretz Yisroel
in order that they all be fulfilled by me". The emphasis here
is not that Moshe wanted personally to do all the Mitzvos,
rather that all the Mitzvos be done through him there.
When Yehoshua brought the Yidden into Eretz Yisroel, the
Yidden achieved a certain Geulah and were able to do all the
Mitzvos. However this Geulah was temporary and both Beis
Hamikdosh were eventually destroyed and the ability to fulfill
many Mitzvos was lost. If however Moshe, who was greater
than Yehoshua, ended up being the one who led the Yidden
into Eretz Yisroel, the final and everlasting Geulah would have
immediately followed and we would forever have the ability to
perform every Mitzvah!
This is what Moshe really means when he says "I want
to enter Eretz Yisroel in order that they all be fulfilled by me".
Moshe is not talking about his own Zechuyos or any other
personal agenda. Moshe yearned, and pleaded with Hashem
to allow him, to lead the Yidden into Eretz Yisroel, so that
by his entering, all the Mitzvos would forever be able to be
fulfilled. We would then have had the everlasting and final
Geulah.

After the Sicha of Parshas Tazria-Metzora 5751 where
the Rebbe encourages the study of subjects connected with
Geulah and Moshiach, especially in the Likutei Sichos of the Nasi
of our generation, a pamphlet was published by 'Vaad Lahafotzas
Sichos' with a compilation of the Rebbe's Sichos on these
subjects.
Immediately afterwards they prepared a second pamphlet
and gave it into the Rebbe for agreement and blessing before
printing.
Interestingly, the Rebbe withheld the pamphlet for an
extremely long while, and more than six months later returned it
with the addition of the following words in handwriting:
"If they did not yet publish the Sefer, they should add in
the sichos from this year, (5752) which are on the topic of
Moshiach, and also to publish the Sefer at a fitting date (Rosh
Chodesh Shevat, Yud Shevat)".

The Gemara in Shabbos tells us, that when a
person is brought to the Beis Din shel Maalah
for judgement, among other questions, he is also
asked, Tzipisa liyeshua?
Did you hope and look forward to the salvation
of Moshiach promised by the nevi'im?"

In the Sicha of Shabbos Parshas Va'eschanan 5748 the Rebbe demands of us to ask ourselves the piercing question: Of all my
activities in fulfilling my Shlichus, what have I added specifically to bring Moshiach?
Some people say that they don't mix in to Hashem's business - He will certainly bring Moshiach when He is ready. The Rebbe refutes this
זן ומפרנס" claim, for when it comes to requesting his physical needs from Hashem he does mix in, here he suddenly forgets that Hashem is
double porion (for Shabbos)". - לחם משנה Feeds and sustains all of creation", he demands that he have all of his necessities including - לכל
Next the Rebbe mentions a letter he received as a reply to his inquiry "what are you doing to bring Moshiach"? The reply was "I come from
in bringing Moshiach". קאך lineage and I did not see my father or grandfather making a חשוב'ע a
The Rebbe doesn't like this reply: How can you base yourself on your grandfather when you yourself know that if he would see your
bedroom he would say "Feh!", he never had a newspaper in his bedroom like you do . . .
(Here the Rebbe goes into details describing all the "Aveiros" of this fictional figure, hiding the newspaper in his room so that no one
should see it thereby revealing his secret that he isn't actually fully engrossed in Torah study as he claims to be etc.)
Anyway, this is all irrelevant after the sources were publicized, in Rishonim and Achronim, where they state clearly that every Jew must
do everything in his ability to await, demand and achieve the arrival of Moshiach. They didn't write this in vain, Chas Veshalom, they wrote
it so that we should execute and achieve.
אזוי, אז לאחרי אלע גוטע זאכן וואס מ׳האט אויפגעטאן,
דארף מען בא זיך פרעגן: וואס האט מען מוסיף געווען
אין די אלע פעולות בקיום השליחות צו מקרב זיין ביאת
המשיח??
זיינען פאראן אזוינע, וואם בשעת מ׳פרעגט זיי וואס טוען
זיי צו מקרב זיין ביאת המשיח - ענטפערן זיי, אז דאס איז א
געשעפט פארן אויבערשטן, און זיי וילן זיך ניט מישן אין די
געשעפטן פון דעם אויבערשטן.
- כ׳האב אמאל געשריבן איינעם און ביי אים געפרעגט
וואס ער טוט צו מקרב זיין ביאת המשיח. האט ער מיר
געענטפערט, אז אין דרכנו בכך, ער האט ניט געזען בא זיין
טאטן און זיידן - עד האט געשטאמט פון חשוב׳ע אידן - אז
זיי זאלן זיך קאכן אין ברענגען משיח.
ווען עס רעדט זיך וועגן דעם אז דער אויבערשטער, ״הזן
ומפרנס לכל״, זאל אים צושטעלן זיינע צרכים ־ בעט ער בא
דעם אויבערשטן און איז זיך משתדל בכל האופנים אז ער
זאל אים אלץ געבן, ביז אויך ״לחם משנה״ וכו'; אבער ווען
עס קומט צו ברענגען משיח - אט דא מישט ער זיך ניט אין
דעם אויבערשטן'ס געשעפטן, ווארום זיין זיידע האט זיך
אזוי ניט געפירט...
פרעגט מען ביי אים: בא דיר בחדרי חדרים - פירט זיך
אויף ווי דיין זיידע האט זיך געפירט?! ובשעת דיין זיידע
וואלט געזען ווי דו פירט זיך דארטן אויף - ווייסטו אליין אז
ער וואלט געזאגט: פע!!...
אין זיין חדר חדרים האלט ער א ״טיימס״, פארוואם? ווייל
ער טענה׳ט אז ער דארף דאך האבן פרנסה, און גיין שאפן
פרנסה בחוץ - דאס קען ער ניט, ווארום ביי אים איז ״תורתו
אומנתו״, דעריבער קויפט ער ״שערס״ אויפן בערזשע, און
דערפאר דארף ער האבן א ״טיימס״ בכדי דארטן זען צי די
מחירים זיינען ארויף אדער אראפ, בכדי וויסן צי ער זאל
קויפן אדער פארקויפן;
אבער האלטן דעם ״טיימס״ בחוץ פון זיין חדר און אין
דארטן לייענען ־ דאס פאסט אין ניט. און דערצו ־ האט ער
מורא אז זיינע קינדער און אייניקלעך, קליינע קינדער, זאלן
דערמיט טאן וואס מ׳דארף טאן מיט דעם ״טיימס״: מאכן
דערפון צאצקעס, און א היטעלע, וועלכע מ׳טוט אן אויפן
קאפ!
און דאס גופא ־ דוקא לאחרי ווי מ׳טוט אויס דער
יארמולקע!... וואס דאס איז מגלה די פנימיות פון דעם
״טיימס״: דאס פירט סו״ס, מ׳זאל אויסטאן די יארמולקע,
דער מקיף דקדושה )ווי מ׳פלעג עס אמאל רופן און ווי
מ׳רופט עס אויך היינט(!...
ובנוגע לעניננו ־ זעט מען מהנ״ל אז ס׳איז קיין תירוץ ניט
וואס זיין זיידע האט זיך אזוי ניט געפירט, ווארום ער פירט
זיך בלאו הכי ניט ווי זיין זיידע האט זיך געפירט.
ובפרט, אז מ׳האט שוין אנגעצייכנט און )בחורים האבן(
מפיץ געווען די מקורות בתושבע״פ וראשונים ואחרונים
)דער רוקח, חיד״א, של״ה וכיו״ב(, אז מ׳דארף ווארטן און
מאנען און טאן כל התלוי צו ברענגען משיח צדקנו, וואס
זיכער האבן די ראשונים דאם געשריבן ניט לריק ח״ו, נאר
בכדי אז מ׳זאל זיך אזוי פירן בפועל!
און דאס וואס זיין זיידע כו׳ האט זיך אזוי ניט געפירט ־
כאטש אז ער האט זיכער געהאלטן פון רוקח וכו' ־ איז דאס
א באזונדער שאלה, וואס רירט ניט אן דעם עצם ענין.
ועאכו״כ בדורנו זה, וואס כ״ק מו״ח אדמו״ר נשיא דורנו
האט מכריז און מפרסם געווען אז ״לאלתר לגאולה לאלתר
לתשובה״. ־ ]כ״ק אדמו״ר שליט״א חייך ואמר:[ בשעת
מעשה איז מיר ניט איינגעפאלן פרעגן דעם שווער פארוואס
ער איז דעד ערשטער וואס איז ארויס מיט דער הכרזה.
אפילו אויב דאס וואלט געווען היינט ־ וואלט איך אים אויך
ניט געפרעגט, כ׳וואלט ביי אים געפרעגט בעסערע זאכן...

LIVING LESSONS
קרעטשמע One of the Chassidim of the Tzemach Tzedek had a
paying ten ruble before the ,פריץ which he rented from a local
beginning of every year. One year, the Chossid fell ill and sent
to make the contract for the פריץ his son instead of him, to the
coming year.
The son thought of a marvelous idea, to make a contract for the
coming five years at the rate of only thirty ruble, thus saving himself
agreed to the deal, satisfied with the thirty פריץ twenty ruble. The
ruble for it was being paid in advance. The son returned home excited,
telling his father of the great deal he had just closed. "Fool!" screamed
אמונה the father. "You paid twenty ruble for nothing! We believe with
that Moshiach will come right now! שלימה
