ICSE Class X Biology Cell The Structural and Functional Unit of LifeAlok Singh
The cell is the structural and functional unit of the body. All living beings develop from pre-existing cells. Robert Hooke (1665) discovered the cell. He observed cork cells of a tree bark.
Embracing GenAI - A Strategic ImperativePeter Windle
Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies such as Generative AI, Image Generators and Large Language Models have had a dramatic impact on teaching, learning and assessment over the past 18 months. The most immediate threat AI posed was to Academic Integrity with Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) focusing their efforts on combating the use of GenAI in assessment. Guidelines were developed for staff and students, policies put in place too. Innovative educators have forged paths in the use of Generative AI for teaching, learning and assessments leading to pockets of transformation springing up across HEIs, often with little or no top-down guidance, support or direction.
This Gasta posits a strategic approach to integrating AI into HEIs to prepare staff, students and the curriculum for an evolving world and workplace. We will highlight the advantages of working with these technologies beyond the realm of teaching, learning and assessment by considering prompt engineering skills, industry impact, curriculum changes, and the need for staff upskilling. In contrast, not engaging strategically with Generative AI poses risks, including falling behind peers, missed opportunities and failing to ensure our graduates remain employable. The rapid evolution of AI technologies necessitates a proactive and strategic approach if we are to remain relevant.

7. Name of cell Red blood cells
Cell’s function To transport oxygen from lungs to all body
cells
Features present in cell
that help it to carry out
its function
1. Contain haemoglobin : that carries
oxygen
2. Have no nucleus : to make more space
for haemoglobin
3. Have biconcave shape : to increase
surface area for absorption of oxygen

Cell’s function To sweep away mucus that traps dust and
bacteria in air
Features present in cell
that help it to carry out
its function
1. Have short hairs (cilia) that move to
sweep mucus out of the respiratory tract

- Supports the plant
Features present in
cell that help it to
carry out its function
1. Have no cell contents

- Fixes the plant in the soil
Features present in cell
that help it to carry out
its function
1. Has a long protrusion to increase the
surface area of absorption.
2. Has a concentrated cell sap to increase
osmosis of water into the cell.

13. Epithelial cells
Squamous epithelial cells
These cells are flattened, found on skin and lines some
structures inside the body. This type of epithelium is
often permeable and occurs where small molecules need
to pass quickly through membranes via filtration or
diffusion.
Ciliated epithelial cells
These have cilia and line the respiratory
tract structures and oviducts.
