3. Discussing the tools and process• To start with I opened up Adobe Photoshop file and set the sizing as 2400 width and 3600 length. Whilst
also setting on 300 resolution and a transparent background. Once I had opened the file I got a diamond
shaped wallpaper from google images, put it on a different layer and got the image of Arthur Fleck. I put
him in a different layer like I do with all my images and positioned him where I wanted him. I then got the
image of the joker and used the magic wand tool to draw around both images. I then used the rubber to
smooth of the edges of the images as they look very sharp and unnatural from where I used the previous
tool. I then got a black wallpaper and duplicated the layer into four layers. I positioned and resized the
images so that they would look like borders for the magazine. I then typed in a blue colour with a
“Palatino linotype” font and found a marble effect wallpaper that I put under the diamond wallpaper so it
looks more better with a overlayer. I turned down the opacity of the diamond wallpaper so that the grey
wasn’t clear and the marble effect wallpaper was. I used “Myriad Pro” font and typed up the names at
the top with a red font as its my primary colour. Then I typed up the cover lines with a “minionpro
boldcn” font and red colour at the bottom of the page. I then got the image of the barcode at put at the
bottom of the magazine and angled it to a side so it was in line with the cover line text. I then typed in the
magazines details in small text with a “minionpro semibold it” font because it had that type tool effect to
it and put it in a sizing of 48 because it had to look really small so that it didn’t get in the way with the
image. I then brought in the images of Harley Quinn and sonic as they were the photos used for the cover
lines photos. I chose these specific images as I felt that they said something about the movie with it
featuring the primary character. I then chose a green image, duplicated image four times. I used the first
two images to position behind the cover line photos. I then typed up the cover lines under the photos
with a red “myriad pro” font. I then used a yellow “Rockwell” font for the slogan and using the 3D tool
angled it to a side so that that it had that 3D look to stand out. Then I did the exclusive just underneath,
so that it stands out just a s much as the slogan. For the headline this is when I used the third green
image that had been previously duplicated and placed it over the headline, putting it on a soft lines so
that it blends in with it. I then rubbed out any green section that were not in the lettering carefully going
around it., so that the green was just in the lettering I then found a grey grungy wallpaper and put it over
the headline again, putting it on to softlight and rubbing out any sections that weren’t in the lettering.
Only this time I turned the opacity down so that the green was still clear enough but the effect of the
other wallpaper was still there. Then I typed up the subheading with a white font as I felt that it
separated itself neatly to the headline, because I wanted the headline to stand out the most . Then for
the special feature I did a pull out poster, where I got a plain white image and used the last green image
that I had duplicated previously. I put the white image in front of the green image and used the type tool
to type out what it was about. I then went into the rectangle tool which was the third bottom down
selected the ellipse tool, so I could draw it out and position it into a circle, where I wanted. The last thing
that I needed to do was go onto file, export and then export it as a PNG into my documents so that I can
find it.
4. Reflection
• What elements of your experiments will you
include in your final product?
• In my final product I would like to use the primary colours of black and red as I
think that they fit with the style that I am aiming for. Those colours I think will
work with the black and white style that I am going for with my front cover.
• Another element that I want to include in my final product is the black border
that surrounds the cover of the magazine. I think this is a great layout design
and also adds to black being the overall theme of the primary colour.
• One more element that I’ll include in my final product that was in my
production experiment is the cover lines that will be included on the side of
the magazine. Some magazines particularly film or modelling don’t feature
coverlines and take a big gamble on making the main image the unique selling
point, as its professional photography. With the coverlines being on the side it
makes the image look a little cheap with text or images. However I want to
include this on my magazine as I want to include everything on it that
connotes to it being a magazine.
6. Discussing the tools
• With this double page spread, I also did this on adobe photoshop. I set
the sizing of the image with the width having 2400, and the length
having 1200. With it also having a 300 resolution and set to a
transparent background. The first thing I did once it opened the file up
was set my rulers. I did this by going on view which was at the top and
scrolled down to new guides there I could set the orientations to
vertical or horizontal. I could also change the position buy inches.
Once I had set my rulers and locked them using CTRL Alt on the
keyboard. I then selected a white wallpaper image and used it as
different layer, expanding the image so that It fits the whole of the
double page. I then got the image of Murray and included him but on
a different layer. I wanted his image to be very faded. So I did this by
experimenting with the image such as changing it to soft light or
turning down the opacity so that it look slightly faded out.
• I then did the main image which I added to a new layer because this
already had a background I used the magic wand tool to cut that out
then used my rubber tool just smooth round the edges of the image. I
then got the “ha” image which was a PNG and duplicated the layer
that it was on. So that there was multiple images that I could space
out. I then found the text box images on google and put them on
photoshop. These were also PNG’s so I stretched the boxes out and
positioned them in the way that I wanted once I had duplicated the
layers that the original was in. I then used the type tool to type out
the heading that I was going to use and the date/pg.
number/magazine details at the bottom. I used a Broadway font for
main heading and then used a modern no. 20 for the font of the rest.
Once I had one this it was finished and I could export my work as a
PNG file.
7. Reflection
• What elements of your experiments will you
include in your final product?
• One of the main elements that I would like to include in my product which is in
my production experiment is to include the faded out character in the
background of my piece. I want include in a memorial sense as Murray from
the joker got shot in the end, I’ll need to include someone who in the
Kingsman is a central character and has also died in one of the films.
• Another element that I want to include in my double page spread from my
production experiment is the big letter that is in the centre of the page in drop
caps. I dfo think however that It should be bigger taking up quite a bit of space
and so there's not to much wide space on the page.
• The final element that I want to include in my double page spread from my
production experiment is to include minimalism in my images. As the images
that are included in this one are very plain and stylish with the white
background and the repetition of images of the word “ha”. I want include very
basic images in my double page spread but because I’m doing Kingsman then
they have to be even more stylised then what I'm trying to produce here.
