George Wetton evaluates the strengths and weaknesses of his film project, including initial plans, research, and planning. Some strengths included thorough research covering different media and choosing two sets of survey results. Weaknesses included not having enough storyboards to clearly convey his vision and not planning technical aspects like audio quality earlier. With more time, he would have improved filming quality, included more scenes to explain the narrative, and made it a more professional production.

2. Introduction
Now having got all my production stuff finished and reflected upon. I will be evaluating
and covering my ideas that are presented there. Looking at the strengths and weakness.
Plus taking into account that if I was given more available time. How would I use that to
change some parts for my project. There were complications when it came to the editing
of my clips. So this will be something which I will have to explain here. I will also be
looking at the products themselves. Looking at what is good and bad. Visually and
aesthetically. Despite getting feedback on the products whilst they were in the
production. I don’t think they are perfect and still deserve more feedback on how they
look. One subject which I am interested in is going over the technical qualities of my
products. The design is very important but I feel like one of the main elements is adding
in all the technical details. However when just comparing the imagery I am going to be
interested in that too. I know what my weaknesses already are but it is matter of
comparing the products. In a similar sense to my research I need to be more engaging in
this project for my peer feedback. This will be a more critical response on how my
finished product looks. Going through the strengths and weaknesses oof these will help
me with future products. Looking how if I agree on the feedback and how I would
change it now.

4. Initial Plans
Strengths
 I think I have covered some good topics when it comes what
my initial plans is about. The main thing to talk about was
the mood boards and whilst this is just a set of images. I feel
like they do a good job at captivating what it is I want.
Covering different areas from. A collective rough of initial
ideas, camera shots, locations and the school. Despite it
being something which you don’t see in the film. It give a
morbid look into miserable life of the characters. Through
making these mood bards I wanted to include the beauty
but also the depressing sides of York and how it depends
what's happening in the scene in order for this to fit.
 Another strength is my open mindedness when it has come
to initiating other ideas. I know there was some stuff that I
never would have wanted to do. Such as creating a music
video or a CD case. They both are very similar to my project.
Both displaying the categories of design and film but I just
wouldn't’t have put as much passion into them because I’m
not interested. However I have still been open minded to
other film ideas which I felt like they would have also
supported my FMP.

5. Initial Plans
 Strengths
 Another strength that I have found from doing my initial plans
was what had inspired me. I have taken my intuitive to look at
original artwork that people have made before and create
something off from that. For instance looking at some Francis
Bacon as the image is very haunting and decided to use
something like that for my posters.
 Another strength that I have found from my initial plans is my
choice of colors. I’ve kept them very simple and haven't tried to
make anything too bold. Looking at the darker colors. One of
the colors that I haven't included though which is the purple
color to be include for one of the theme colors.
 I also think another strength to be included which counts as
the project is that I’m working on existing material that’s
original to me. So even though I will have to explain some
areas for it to cover in terms of context. A lot of the ideas are
already there.

6. Initial Plans
 Weaknesses
 I think my biggest weakness was that I had gathered too many
influences to support the work which I was going to make. This is a
problem because if you steer away from this ideas then that’s when
you own original think can be developed on screen. I didn’t think
there was anything too identical to be taken from this though.
 Another weakness that I had found from doing my Initial plans was
looking at the film ‘Harry Potter prisoner of Azkaban’. Whilst it was
very inspiring it was also very time consuming to be going through
each shot that I would have considered unique. Plus I didn't use half
of them. I feel like if I was to do this project again that would be
something which I keep an open mind for that or don’t include the
talk about them.
 Another weakness I have found in my initial plans which goes the
same for most of my documents is not including enough planning or
preparation for how I was creating the music. This is something which
I put aside but was very important because it was about creating
something on audio that I had very little knowledge on. Despite
knowing what I was going to do I didn't know how to do it. This was
stuff that I had to research during the process of making . So I think
its very poor planning on that behalf.

7. Initial Plans
Weaknesses
 Another weakness I found from initial plans work
was my initial reaction. A lot of it was was ideas that I
had already had in terms of the narrative. So a lot if
it was just original thinking in terms of how I was
going to sell the product but I didn’t feel like I was
putting enough of a originality into the creative
process of how into the plot itself. No characters had
got developed or story because it was already there.
Even though I haven’t finished the book. The
structure of how everything was going to go was still
there
 Another weakness I found from doing my initial
plans was that I didn't cover my subjects to just one
genre. Whilst I know that my film is hybrid of two
genres. I was focusing more upon the characters and
just little ideas that hinted towards my story but I
didn't’t focus on many horror films to to look at.

8. Research
Strengths
• I think my biggest strength was the range that I covered when
researching into my existing products. Covering both film,
trailers, magazine, websites, DVD covers and posters. This was
major part of my research as it was essentially the research that
was need. My biggest strength in was how I covered every
topic though.
• Another strength that I had from doing my FMP was choosing
to two set of results. I feel like I did just the Microsoft teams
one’s. Then I would have had a large number of answers
coming from people. I also feel it like there was more questions
I could ask. It didn't really feel like an quantitative research with
just having 25 people answers. So I knew I needed the extra
other 50.
• One other strength I can think of when coming from my
research was how well my second poster did for my production
research. Whilst the design wasn’t totally amazing. I got more
of an idea from character posters with that then I did for my
blood hands one.

9. Research
Strengths
• Another strength which I could find in my research was
keeping up with my bibliographies and keeping up with
all the research links that I looked into. Whilst its very
simple thing to do. I have tried to keep a number of
different ones and color coordinated. As I believe they are
very important when it comes to my research.
• I also found one strength from doing my research in was
looking into the social classes for where the characters
could be fitted into. This helped me get a better
perspective on how the characters should act and where
their principles are based on their environment.
• I also found a huge strength in doing my in-depth
analysis into the history of horror. This helped me come
up with answer of when stereotypes appeared and when
they started. I feel like by looking at the origins of all this
you get a real sense of practicality which help’s you when
making your project.

10. Research
Weaknesses
• One of my weaknesses was in my subject research as I felt
like I had covered a lot of modern day genre. Now this is
something which I watch a lot anyway but I don’t watch
them for the themes and patterns. So it was something
worth developing upon. My covering for the history of
horror stopped around 90’s films.
• Another weakness I found from my research was that I
didn’t cover a wide age group when doing my interviews. I
feel like I was aiming towards my target audience when
asking the question but I didn't target towards the older
group. Whilst I believe your target audience is the most
important section of people to aim towards. I do think that
your product is only at it’s best when you’ve got stuff in
there aimed towards a large section of people.
• I also found a weakness in not doing some sort of
experiment that covers selective colour. Whilst this belongs
more in my production experiments. I do think that it
needed covering in this as well. It’s nothing that I have
never really done before.

11. Research
Weaknesses
 Another weakness that I could find in my research was when I covered the
various other artists style and what makes their posters them when
looking into existing posters. The reason I would consider this a weakness
is because I feel like there wasn’t much to talk about. Meaning I could
have covered more artists. Doing four per slide as opposed to just one.
However, I do think this was a good idea.
 I also found a weakness in my research was the amount of depth that the
answers had for my interview I didn't feel like they were covering enough
of the questions that I was asking. Which made the subtexts very
confusing because my qualitative and quantative research almost became
very similar to each other. Even though I wasn’t analyzing statistical
results and it was coming from a large section of people.
 The last weakness that I could find in my research was not analyzing
enough DVD covers. I looked over various meanings through the analysis
of one cover. However, I didn't feel like covered enough when it came to
looking at the examples. I felt like I needed to cover a lot more in terms of
how the layout is set up. Color and how the titles are structured are all
incorporated with the film's themes and colors. For instance, looking at
the layout and how that’s structured in stead of the images that’s been
placed on the cover.

12. Planning
Strengths
 I think one strength of my planning was my introduction to
originality. I was trying to be original before but this time it
was more of a case of getting those ideas onto paper and
then developing so that they become real. My logo for
instance I went through many different ideas and drafts.
Then when I was happy. I created my own through
Photoshop as opposed to using an existing one.
 Another strength I can find in my planning was how I still
had strong ideas on how the colour of the screen would be
and developed on that. I knew what colours I was going to
incorporate in my initial plans but I didn't know how I was
going to use these. Whilst this did belong more in my
research I still think that it was important to see how colour
can connotate to certain emotions on a colour wheel and
which ones work the best when putting them together.
 I also a found a strength in my layout plans. Whilst it has
been important to adapt and change my work. I feel like
what I have planned there and what I got for my final
products were pretty close. The magazine was originally
going to include the dripping blood but I felt like it worked
better for the DVD because of the polaroid images.

13. Planning
Strengths
 Another strength I can find in my planning is my use of
thinking outside the box when it comes to the equipment
or locations that I don’t have. For example, I didn't have
boom mic in order to pick up the audio quality. Whilst the
audio in the end did suffer. I think without it I wouldn’t have
picked up anything. This was booked from college.
 Another strength that I had found from doing my planning
was my shot lists. It was something which I hadn’t really
thought about until is started making them. It was vital to
know how long each shot would take. That indicts to the
viewer how important it is. Horror can get away with it
though because quick cuts can be frighting and that’s
important.
 I also found a strength in doing my planning was
something which I felt like the color schemes I should have
done much earlier but was still beneficial and that was the
project’s concept on the three-way act structure. It helps to
write out your book as a whole when it comes adapting it
into a script and the best way on doing that is seeing how
you would section each part up.

14. Planning
Weaknesses
 The main weakness that I have found from my planning was the
storyboards . They didn’t a clear way of how I wanted things and
that added to the cause of change. Ideas evolved and became
more better which was good but some were dropped that I felt
like if we were given more time. It would have been presented
better.
 Another weakness that I found from my planning was not bringing
in enough originality when it came to props. I made the note and
the 80’s posters to stick on the wall but id don’t that was enough.
It need more it to fit in with the time period that it is. Which could
have brought in references to Walkman tape recorders and Rubik's
cubes. However the problem with that was I was working on
material that was already pre existing. So it would have had more
sense to include them but then of course there is the fear
overdoing it and whilst it is a comedy. It can come across very
slapstick in the face of shoving a cheap gag every five minutes
when it doesn’t od anything for the plot
 I also found weakness in the PowerPoint itself. I feel like this one
wasn’t too long because I needed to do as much research as
possible before coming into the product but it could have been
spreaded out equally across the toher PowerPoints. For instance
when looking into colour theory and the meaning behind colour.
Even though it was more technical than anything I did research
before. It belonged more in my research PowerPoint.

15. Planning
Weaknesses
 There were some sections that I looked into that were a bit
pointless to the project, but I decide to look into them for my
own curiosity. For instance, looking at the various age
certificates which could have been granted to the film. I
wanted to push it to an 18 and whilst that doesn’t cone across
in the clip. The goriness is described more in the book. So, on
the clip along. I would give it a 12 but the film that I was
planning and advertising I would give it an 18.
 I also found the call sheet to be a bit pointless because we
already knew the area and the number of hours were
calculated through how much we had planned beforehand.
 Another weakness would be as I mentioned before how late I
sorted out the concept of hat the story was going to be like.
This was something which I wasn't too worried about because
it was already there but to give more breathings space on
how I was going to adapt this into a script. I should have done
it earlier like in my contextual for example.

16. Time Management
Time management has been bit of an issue sadly. I started doing a lot of work to begin with and
then eventually it became a bit overwhelming. I think in terms of having production. People have
helped with me filming and supported me a lot. However a lot of it has consisted of getting
everything from my planning done. It had run into the production side and even now I’m making
the odd adjustments to it. I think covered everything about from the odd tweak from my initial
plans to my planning. When it comes to the production side. I would have made it more
professional and if not for the pandemic then I would have had more people on set. I would have
also made the quality in the filming a lot better. My mum is not a professional in filmmaking by any
means. So a lot of the shots did have the characters fully in the frame. I was happy with the first of
location shots because I filmed them and that’s how I visioned it but with the rest I would have done
more retakes if we had extra time. I would also include more scenes that explain the narrative even
if they are more non linear. Whist I had clear plans of what it was I was going to do the cast were
confused by the structure of the script despite it being linear. So whether this would be good idea
or not. I don’t know. I did want to include boards before and after the video explaining the story a
bit more so that the viewer doesn’t feel like their time has been wasted. However I feel like this
would this is something away from the story and I like how it leaves it on an open page. Not
everything has to be explained. So I’m glad the fate of these characters are left to the imagination of
the viewer.

28. Feedback 1- Matthew
What did you like about the product?
 “I think the cinematography and the colour altercations the biggest benefactor when looking at you
work. I like how you have made the video very retro looking. Like an old film in order to keep in with
the old times. I think you have good job at trying to convincing the viewer that this is a sign of the
times. Another thing I like about your film is the uses of introduction shots in order to set the scene
and that whilst there is a fair bit dialogue you’ve tried to settle on establishing the scene especially at
the beginning where your hinting towards Clifford's tower and then later on of course you realise it’s a
bit of foreshadowing because it plays a central part to the story.”
What improvements could have been made to the product?
 “I think the biggest flaw in your video is the story itself. When explained it’s very easy to follow but
because it’s a clip take from something that you have wrote. It’s difficult to follow the narrative. I also
didn't’t find the acting too be all to believable and some parts felt very staged. I also felt like that
whilst the chemistry must have been good on set. The performing techniques were every different. For
example take in to account on volume of dialogue. Josh was speaking very loud and you were
speaking very quiet. Whilst this was something that could have been altered in the editing process it
wasn’t. plus not to mention difficulty being able to hear dialogue to begin with because of the traffic
set outside the scene.”

What did you like about the product?
“If there's one thing I can appreciate is the focus on small details. Whilst the camera framing
isn’t completely great as in some shots it doesn’t manage to get everybody in the frame.
However you have still look at everything that should be included within this shot. Whilst this
does seem more like an improvement than a strength or something that you need to. I fee
like for future projects you need to focus more behind the camera then in front of it. I feel like
you had a great sense of direction and good ideas but they weren’t executed as well. I also
like music in the product and how its used. For example when Stephen puts on a record it
relies more on the natural sound of the record and then picks off into something we can
hear.”
What improvements could have been made to the product?
“I think visually and aesthetically it looked very good. You’ve established a good sense of
colour. However in terms of the narrative it’s very confusing. I can’t imagine the best section
of your book which tells the story well. It was too very confusing and I felt like it picked up
more questions than it actually answers. I know it’s more focused on the editing and
cinematography that sets the scene but the story needs to make sense as well. So possibly
pick something less ambitious next time such as a short film. As the narrative it was too
complex to follow. I also think there was a fair bit of sound problems which I know you tried
editing to make it sound better.”

30. Feedback 3 - Harriet
 What did you like about the product?
“I think the biggest strength that I can find in your product is the characters. What they
represent and what their views are. You get a lot horror films where the characters aren’t even
secondary to the plot. They have not that many interesting element to them. That makes them
rather bland an boring but just in this clip along you have stablished their identity really well. I
also like the location which you have filmed it at. Whilst I know you were originally going to
do it in a wider are. I feel like even on those clips along. You set up the scene really well and
what the surroundings will be like.”
 What improvements could have been made to the product?
“One of the major improvement is would make to this products is getting rid of the vintage
overlay of the old film. I can understand you were trying to get it to have more vintage look to
set with the times but its very distracting from what's happening in the scene. It doesn’t feel
very necessary and feel like rather cheap idea to bring you back to that day and age. The story
should be telling that. I also think your music should be completely original. You shouldn’t be
using 80’s songs as that’s just is another thing which I would classify as being too much on
the nose and is also copyright which means it will be taken down. ”

31. Peer Feedback Summary
 What do you agree with from your peer feedback?
The piece of feedback which I was given which feel like I would have to agree with is the quality of the
sound. Looking back I would have done a few retakes as the dialogue sounds very silent. I did try editing it
by reducing any noise in the background but it still didn't make the dialogue louder. I would also have to
agree about the music. Originally I was going to include an original score which would have been made on
Beepbox. However after having experimented on several attempts it just didn’t work and sounded rather
amateurish for a scene which I wanted to be taken seriously even if the dialogue was still going go5t be
funny. I would also agree with the volume of dialogue. The level of people speaking kept going up and
down which made it difficult to edit afterwards.
What do you disagree with from your peer feedback?
One piece of feedback which I feel like I would have to disagree with is the inclusion of the insert shots. I
wanted to create more depth and go to more locations which could be filmed. Whilst of course I didn’t
want to drag that scene out. It could have done with more. Another piece of feedback which I would have
to disagree with is to not include the old overlay. With a bigger budget I would shoot on a n old fashioned
camera. However I feel like it works well with the colour on the screen. It might have just need toning
down a little though with the opacity tool because I found din particular the scene at the beginning where
the camera zooms in on Steve. The hairs from the filter are very distracting.

32. Peer Feedback Summary
The main change I would make would make based on my feedback is the audio. This
would mean that we would have to make an adjustment on reshooting for a different
day. Ideally it would have been around the easter holidays. So then when we film on a
weekday and not a weekend. It won’t be busy meaning traffic won’ t be too big of an
issue. I would also look at a variety of different overlays which I could use for my shots in
the cinematography. I feel like I didn’t explore enough filters which could be applied for
the effect that I wanted. I also feel like with more added time. I would have hired
someone else out to do sort out the scoring or at the very least point me towards the
right direction of how it should sound. However I wouldn’t completely get rid of the 80’s
music as if left some nostalgic impact to the viewer that watching it. Audio was big issue
when doing this project. So when it comes to the post production side I would have
depend more time adjusting the levels differentiating on who's talking. Getting the
actors to talk louder or quieter could affect their performance make things worse. Also
depending on whether it work’s or not I would include board that would explain the
narrative a lot more easier before the credits.

33. Evaluation
Overall, I think my evaluation has been very informative on the thing that I needed to
work on if I was to ever extend this project. Most of what the other people up on in
terms of the flaws of the product and what could be improved were similar views to what
I thought as well. A lot of what they said I was thing beforehand as well. I also think that
going through and seeing what my strengths or weakness were in my product was
hugely valuable. This keeps me on track with where I am right now and how I need to
improve in order to get to get to those steps. It’s also given me a good amount of time
to go through the various initial ideas or ideas during the planning process. Looking at
how they have evolved and how things were altered from what they were originally

34. Presentation targets
Now that I am coming towards the end of my project, I will be going through the
various presentation strategies in which I can sell my product. Whilst suppose it
counts that this whole project has been the marketing of the film. This is more of a
case of getting those things out there so that people can see them. Some of the
strategies that I will be taking I setting up a website for the film via wix and then I
will also be setting up various social media sites in order to promote the film to the
general public. So far, I have already et up an instagram and Facebook account.
Though I doubt they’ll be getting large viewings. Sadly, due to the narrative being
very complex and I wouldn’t make an awful lot of sense with background. I can't
take this to festivals which I would have really liked to have done. I also would like
to create some merchandise which would help promote the product. I already have
a Redbubble account. So, I can see how I can have that printed onto some clothing.
I also want to experiment with different websites to upload my video on. Like
dailymotion and vimeo for instance. Whilst not big video platform it is still getting
my product out here. Some in-universe products would look nice too. So, billboards
and buss stop posters.
