2. Front Cover Process
I used Photoshop to create my first draft of my magazine front cover. To
start, I used an A4 page and copied and pasted an image of the
background (the orange with the 4 star dragon ball in the bottom left
corner) and resized it so that the ball would be large enough to be seen
but not too large so that it covers most of the page. I wrote the
Mastheadat the top of the page, I used Apple Chancery as my font style
and changed the colour to a slightly darker yellow because the font
colour makes the title stand out with out it clashing with the colour of
the background like if the title was black. I then copied and pasted the
image of Goku and moved it to the centre of the page. I kept changing
his positionon the page throughout the time I had to make the front
cover because parts of his body like his feet and hairkept getting in the
way of different areas of the page like the masthead. I then copied and
pasted multiple images of the dragon ballsand erased certain ones to
move each ballaround the page and surround Goku; my originalidea
for these was to use one of the ballsand use it as the "o" in "Dragon"
but due to the shape of the ball and the font style, I had to change my
idea. I then added the Cover Line near the centre of the page, I also
used Apple Chancery as the font style but change the colour to white as
it standsout to the diferent bright colours in the background;I
underlinedthe name "Akira Toriyama"to make it stand out as it shows
the consumer what the magazine is mostly about. I also rotatedthe
cover line slightly so that it is easy to read and all fits on the page.
3. Reflection
What elements of your experiments will you include in your final product?
I will include the idea of having the main image in the centre of the page,
surrounding it with the dragon balls from the franchise; I will also keep the
"exclusive interview" cover line as it gives more context to what is included in the
magazine.
However, I will change the main image to one of the other characters, someone I
will take a photo of for this, because I have to take my own photos instead of
taking images from the internet. I will also change the background to either
a small forest or a flat terrain with hills in the background, this is because I want
the consumer to focus on mainly the character in the middle of the page. I will
also use different dragon balls as the ones in the experiment don't have as much
detail as I thought so I will use dragon balls with more detail. I will finally change
the title of both the magazine and the game to Ultimate Dragon BrawlerZ to make
it stand out from the other games and magazines.
4. Double Page Process
I used Photoshop to get the main image to the correct size so it fits on both pages, I placed a frame at the top of
the page in Adobe InDesignwhich allowed me to get the image and move it around and change the size so it fits on
the page easily. Unfortunately, due to the size and shape of the image, I couldn't get the image to the correct part
of the page, I wanted to move the image so the tips of the characters fingers are at the centre of the double page
spread so it further shows the connection between the two pages.
5. Reflection
What elements of your experiments will you include in your final product?
I will include the main image idea of two characters performing the fusion pose
because it helps the consumer understand that the new game mode being
promoted has scenes similar to the pose, however, I will change it so two
characters, two people I will take a photo of performing the fusion dance because I
need to take more photos of other people instead of just taking images from the
internet. I will remove the dragon balls as that is already part of the front cover
and I feel like that it would be cheap and dull to repeat the same idea in the same
magazine. Finally, when I edit the picture that I have taken and placed into
InDesign, I will move the image so the tips of both characters' fingers are at the
centre of the double page spread
