2. Process
• First I got a image for my cover and I pasted it into photoshop. I used photoshop because its one of the best image editors. It
has plenty of tools to allow me to do the things I want to do with the magazine. I was also the most comfortable with
photoshop than I was with other image editing software because I used it before.
• I went with the one big image taking up all the space because through my research I felt this was the best layout idea. This
was done with the transform tool. I originally got this idea from the edge magazines from my existing products research. I
thought this was a good idea because it made it look more professional. Afterwards I felt good about it.
• I then made it fit the box and filled any gaps left with the clone tool. I didn't want to leave gaps because it would have looked
substandard and off. I decided to use the clone tool because its very quick and easy to use and the tool was designed for
things like this. I also used the clone tool to wipe out the logo and one of the background characters because it was taking
too much room, which was needed for the titles of the articles I was including. Again I used it because it was designed for
that job. The logo would have been too distracting for the reader and it didn’t need to be there anyway, the focus needed to
be the titles. After I was finished removing the things I didn’t want I thought the background worked very well.
• I instead put locus in the background so it wasn’t so empty. The background just needed something so I pasted and blurred
him in with the background as they may as well look like they are from the same game anyway. I blurred him to add a little
depth so he merged with the background layer. He managed to use up the boring empty space. Leaving enough room for
titles without making it look boring. And I liked this idea very well.
• Once I was finished with the background image I started working on the writing and the layout because I felt it was looking
good and the background didn’t need much more improvement
• I started by giving the name of the magazine I used a text with a bold font and duplicated it, a word on each one. I then gave
them separate colours then extruded them to 3D. Unfortunately when you extrude something it can only be one colour
that’s the reason I separated it. I wanted separate colours because plane white or plane red looked too boring. But it worked
out quite well in the end. I used the 3D extrude layer tool in photoshop which turns things from 2D to 3D with the press of a
button. This is very helpful when making 3D logos or Texts. I think this worked very well and I loved the shading effect on it.
• I then used the same front to write the titles all over the magazine, then used smaller text to expand the titles giving the
audience more details on what the articles would be about so it might interest them into buying it.
• At the bottom I added a bar to give some kind of depth to the magazine. I used a black bar then changed the opacity using
the slider so it was transparent. I thought this looked very good. During my research the magazines in my existing products
felt more boring because the borders/layout was too bold and it drew too much attention towards the border when it
needed to be towards the name and titles. I thought I did very well on this part of the magazine
• I added a Barcode, issue number and price; as these are important for the selling of the magazine. For the price sticker I used
the round shape tool in photoshop and I added it there so the reader could more easily identify the offer making them more
likley to buy the product
• I then used photoshop to export it as a Jpeg
3. Process• When starting the first page I opened a new file and used the fill tool to cover it all green. I though the simplistic
more professional look might be a good approach from looking at the existing products in my research. Unfortunately
I thought I was worried that this made it look a bit too childish But I had to keep moving forward because I didn’t
have any other ideas apart from making it boring plane white.
• As I did with the front cover I used black bars to help with the layout of the page, I then changed the opacity to make
them dark green because of the green background behind it. This works extremely well because if I wanted the
change the background later on I also wouldn’t have to change the bars. But I did lower them down a little to make
sure I could fit all my articles in that I wanted to write.
• I copied the Name of the magazine from the front cover and pasted it at the top because I felt that there was too
much empty space at the top.
• I added the titles of the articles and the images beside each other, and next to where I wanted to write the articles. I
did this because they need to be close so the reader knows they are related to each other. I did this using the
transform tool
• I did an article about Star Wars: The Last Jedi because I felt like it was necessary to not really talk about how bad the
movie was but to talk about the growing divide between fans and critics and why critics were loving movies that
everyone hated. Surely critics were supposed to be more “critical” towards things than the fans so I decided to look
into it. In the end i was very happy about the article I produced
• I did an article about the Nintendo Switch because I wanted to talk about the surprise jump in sales despite the
extremely harsh criticisms from the media but some of it was very well earned; I was happy with the article I
produced again and I went though it a few times to make sure I had it right
• I did an article about Lazer Team 2 because of the growing lack of quality in Roosterteeth products but despite that
they managed to make a good movie and continue with a few good shows. I liked this article very much
• I then pasted the articles into Microsoft word to spell check and punctuate them. Once i was happy I then pasted it
back into the magazine. I did this to double check my work to make sure there wasn’t any mistakes. I wanted my
article to be as perfect as possible. Spelling and punctuation are important if you want readers to keep coming back
to your magazine
• I then wrote the articles in a smaller less bold and more easier to read font. I did this with the text editor tool.
• I outlined the text, images and titles to make them more presentable and readable. This is important if you want your
audience to keep coming back to read your magazine
• I then added a page number at the bottom using the text tool so the audience knew where and how far they were
into reading the magazine.
• Near the end to finish it off I went around the text with the select tool and filled it in creating a black box around it all,
so the white text was easier to read but it didn’t look quite right so I decided to change the opacity and connect the
boxes with each other and create an outline to help with the layout and I thought this worked very well.
• I then used photoshop to export as a Jpeg
4. Process
• For my 2nd page I did the exact same as I did for the first. I did this because I
wanted some consistency
• But I changed the colour from green to blue and used different articles. I
changed the colour with the fill tool because I wanted it to be different.
• I did an article about Anthem because I wanted to talk about how EA uses its
developers and sabotages them
• I did an article about Star Trek Discovery because I felt it was a big downgrade in
quality from the original star trek series because they try to dumb it down too
much for wider family audiences
• I did an article about Bioware and Mass Effect Andromeda because I wanted to
talk about how businesses don’t understand what they pay people to produce
and sell because I think its important for people to know
• I connected the articles with a black box again and changed the opacity again to
make it transparent, this made it a deep blue and if I wanted to change it further
down the line I wouldn’t have to change it because it’s a transparent black box
• I then used photoshop to export as a Jpeg
5. Process
• I then started to work on my back cover, I wanted it to connect to the front cover so I used the same
image and used the half I didn’t use for the front cover. This way it would be a seamless transition from
front to back.
• Again I photoshopped the logo out of it and used the clone and smudge tool to expand the image so it
would fit the whole page and have no white outlines on the sides of the image.
• I went back to my last page and copied the transparent black bars I made and pasted them on and rose
them up a little. To make it look a little better
• I also added texts to the bars to advertise the magazine to make them seem less empty
• I also added a plug advertising the poster and game keys inside free with the magazine. This is to try
and convince the audience to buy the magazine but I don’t think I was good on the back. I would have
put it on the front but I ran out of space and I had nothing on the back
• I then finished it off by adding the published date at the bottom of the page and I then Exported it as a
Jpeg
