2. FILM LOGO
• 13th April: for my film logo, I closely followed my text experiment which I created.
However, for my logo I used the font Walking in the street, which I had previously
planned in my pre-production. My logo was simple to create as I mainly created
multiple text layers and altered the positioning, opacity and depth of each layer, to
create a shadow behind the main text layer. To fit with the colour scheme of the overall
product, I decided to use a purple/blue gradient to ensure it fit with the colours I have
chosen for my posters and billboard. For the outline of the text, I chose orange, as I felt
this contrasted well with the gradient I had created.
4. HARLEY QUINN
• 13th April: For sketching my characters I used the process of rotoscoping, to make sure my drawings were as accurately drawn as possible. I began by opening procreate (on iPad) and
inserting a photo of my Christmas Harley Quinn figure. I then created a new layer and roughly sketched out the outline of the figure using the Calligraphy Script brush(using Apple Pencil)
and her features, using a grey colour so it stood out on the photo. After my initial sketch had been completed, I opened a third layer, changed the colour of the brush to black, and created
a final refined drawing of the character. This took me quite a while as it was time consuming making sure each line was spot on and fit with the drawing.
• 14th April: I began to add colour to my character. I did this accurately by using the colour picker tool on the original image of the character and filling in each section. The hardest part was
the eyeshadow on the character, as it had to be behind the eyes, so I opened a separate layer and re drew the eyes and placed this in front of the drawing layer, so I could draw the
eyeshadow behind the eyes. To finish the eyes I opened another layer, behind the eyes and in front of the drawing, so I could create the eyeshadow. I used the same process for creating
the colour from the original photo, but changed the brush to a soft airbrush, so I could lightly add the eyeshadow onto the photo. Finally, I needed to create the dip dyed hair, which I did
by picking out the lightest and darkest of each colour on the hair and blending these together using the blend tool. Once I was happy with the outcome, I merged all the visible layers
together, and removed anything I didn’t need- the image and rough sketch.
• I changed the canvas size to 4050px x 6000px as this seemed to be the average size of a film poster. I then began to create background for the poster, which I decided should be a gradient
based on the main colours of the character. To do this I decided on a red and green theme, so I used a medium airbrush and he colour picker to select bolder versions of the colours used
on the character. I put the red at the top and the green at the bottom of the poster. I then used the blend tool to blend the colours and create an even gradient. I then added texture- I
originally wanted to have a paint dripping effect, so I experimented with this and didn’t like the way it looked, so I chose to create a faint texture using the Industrial Caged brush, in a faint
black, which I felt fit quite well with the theme of the poster and the character. I then opened a new canvas to create the poster’s title- I first created guidelines for how tall I wanted the text
to be, then on a separate layer I created the text, using the Stickman brush. I then copied the layer and positioned it onto the poster. I then added Harley Quinn quote using the procreate
text tool, using the Snell Roundhand font. I positioned each feature according to the layout of the poster. Finally, I positioned the logo at the top of the poster along with the ‘in cinemas..”
text which I created on a separate canvas.
7. MARTY MCFLY
• 19th April: I began by opening procreate (on iPad) and inserting a photo of my Marty McFly
figure. I then created a new layer and roughly sketched out the outline of the figure using the
Calligraphy Script brush(using my Apple Pencil), using a grey colour so it stood out on the photo.
After my sketch had been completed, I opened a new layer, I changed the colour of the brush to
black, and created a final refined drawing of the character, making sure each line as accurate and
refined as I could possibly make them, to make the drawing realistic and to a high standard. I
then added colour to my character by using the colour picker tool from the original photo of the
figure and filling in each section of the character drawing.
• 20th April : I created the background of the poster. I decided to have the brighter colour in the
center of the of the poster. I used the colour picker to select colours that I felt contrasted with the
character. I used a medium hard airbrush to roughly paint the colours onto the canvas, the used
the blend tool to blend the colours together and create a gradient for the background. I then
used the Industrial Caged brush, in a faint black colour to create a caged background which I felt
fit quite well with the theme of the poster and the character. I then created the quote for the
bottom of the poster using the text tool on procreate, I used the Cochin font. Finally, I placed the
logo and ‘In cinemas…’at the top of the poster.
10. THE JOKER
• 21st April: I began by opening procreate (on iPad) and inserting a photo of my The Joker figure. I then created a new layer
and roughly sketched out the outline of the figure using the Calligraphy Script brush using a grey colour so it stood out on
the photo. After my sketch had been completed, I opened a new layer, changed the colour of the brush to black, and
created a final refined drawing of the character, to make the drawing realistic and to a high standard. I then added
colour to my character by using the colour picker tool from the original photo of the figure and filling in each section of the
character drawing.
• 26th April: I then began to create background for the poster, which I decided should be a gradient based on the main
colours of the character. To do this I decided on a blue and orange, so I used a medium airbrush and the colour picker to
select bolder versions of the colours used on the character. I put the blue at the top and bottom of the poster and placed
the orange in the middle of the poster, as I felt this would emphasize the character better. I then used the blend tool to
blend the colours and create an even gradient. I then added texture- I chose to continue using the faint texture using the
Industrial Caged brush, in a faint black, as I felt fit quite well with the theme of the posters I am creating and the character. I
then opened a new canvas to create the poster’s title- I first created guidelines for how tall I wanted the text to be, then on
a separate layer I created the text. I then copied the layer and positioned it onto the poster. I then added a Marty McFly
quote using the procreate text tool. I positioned each feature according to the layout of the poster. Finally, I positioned the
logo at the top of the poster along with the ‘in cinemas..” text which I created on a separate canvas.
13. JACK SKELLINGTON
• 27th April: I began by opening procreate (on iPad) and inserting a photo of my Jack Skellington figure. I then
created a new layer and roughly sketched out the outline of the figure using the Calligraphy Script brush
using a grey colour so it stood out on the photo. After my sketch had been completed, I opened a new layer,
changed the colour of the brush to black, and created a final refined drawing of the character, to make the
drawing realistic and to a high standard. I then added colour to the character by using the colour picker tool
from the original photo of the figure and filling in each section of the character drawing.
• 28th April: I began to create background for the poster, which I decided should be a gradient based on the
main colours of the character. To do this I decided on purple and black, so I used a medium airbrush and the
colour picker to select bolder versions of the colours used on the character. I put the black at the top and
purple at the bottom. I then used the blend tool to blend the colours and create an even gradient. I then
added texture- I chose to continue using the faint texture using the Industrial Caged brush, in a faint white
for this character, as I felt fit better with the chosen colour scheme. I then opened a new canvas to create the
poster’s title- I first created guidelines for how tall I wanted the text to be, then on a separate layer I created
the text, this time using a white colour instead of the back I had previously used. I then copied the layer and
positioned it onto the poster. I then added a Jack Skellington quote using the procreate text tool. I
positioned each feature according to the layout of the poster. Finally, I positioned the logo at the top of the
poster along with the ‘in cinemas..” text which I created on a separate canvas.
16. BB-8
• 3rd May: I began by opening procreate (on iPad) and inserting a photo of my BB-8 figure. I then created a new layer and
roughly sketched out the outline of the figure using the Calligraphy Script brush using a grey colour so it stood out on the
photo. After my sketch had been completed, I opened a new layer, changed the colour of the brush to black, and created a
final refined drawing of the character, to make the drawing realistic and to a high standard. I then added colour to the
character by using the colour picker tool from the original photo of the figure and filling in each section of the character
drawing. The lighting on the photo was not the best to work with, for both drawing and colour, so I had to add a few lines
myself and create the colours myself based on memory and other photos of the pop figure.
• 4th May: I began to create background for the poster, which I decided should be a gradient based on the main colours of
the character. To do this I decided on orange and light grey, as these are the main colours of the figure, so I used a medium
airbrush and the colour picker to select bolder versions of the colours used on the character. I put the orange at the top
and grey at the bottom I then used the blend tool to blend the colours and create an even gradient. I then added texture- I
chose to continue using the faint texture using the Industrial Caged brush, in a faint black for this character, as I felt fit
better with the chosen colour scheme. I then opened a new canvas to create the poster’s title- I first created guidelines for
how tall I wanted the text to be, then on a separate layer I created the text, this time using a white colour instead of the
back I had previously used. I then copied the layer and positioned it onto the poster. I then added a BB-8 quote using the
procreate text tool. I positioned each feature according to the layout of the poster. Finally, I positioned the logo at the top
of the poster along with the ‘in cinemas..” text which I created on a separate canvas.
19. GROUP CHARACTER POSTER
• 5th May: first I opened a canvas sized 4050 x 6000px which is the same size as the previous
posters I had created, as I though it would be best if they were all the same size. I then
began to copy each character layer and put them onto the canvas, where I began
positioning them where In various places until I was happy with were they were placed. Once
I had made the final decision, I merged each of the character layers together, so if I needed
to reposition the group it would make it easier. I then added a layer behind the characters,
and began to create the gradient background, using a dark and medium blue. To do this I
used a medium airbrush to paint each colour, dark blue at the top and medium blue at the
bottom. I then used the blend tool to create a fade between the colours in the middle to
make the gradient smooth and refined. Once I was happy with the gradient I added on the
logo and ‘In cinemas…” text and positioned them- the logo at the top and the other at the
bottom, as I felt they looked better apart on this poster, as there is less detail here than on
the single character posters.
21. BILLBOARD COVER
• 5th May: I began by creating a canvas sized 2450 x 1242px, which I had researched
to be a suitable billboard cover size. I started off by creating the background- I
decided to use a range of colours which represented each character, I arranged
these based on which colours I felt would fit well together. I used a medium airbrush
to roughly paint each colour onto the canvas, then used the blend tool to create a
more refined gradient between each of the colours. I tried to make each colour as
even as I could, so that it would be as even as possible. I then added the character
to the poster and positioned them in the correct places, resizing where appropriate
until I was happy with the positioning of each character. Finally I added the logo and
text, which I followed the same layout of the group poster with, as I felt this would
be the most appealing to the audience.
