2. Process – Front page cover
• The first thing I did was open up Adobe Photoshop, setting the width to 2400 and
setting the height to 3600. I then set the resolution onto 300 and put it on a
transparent background. The first thing I did once I had opened up the software
was open up the photo of me folding my arms that I took on my camera. I then
used the magic wand tool and drew around the image, removing the background.
The next thing I did was duplicate layer, so now there was two images of me. The
next thing I did was work on my duplicated layer. I desaturated the image by using
the keys Shift+ctrl+U on the keyboard. This made the image black and white
which is what I wanted. I then opened the image of Colin firth, using the magic
wand tool to remove the background and duplicated the layer. Then like before I
turned the duplicated image into black and white. I then opened up a png logo of
the masthead that I'm using for my magazine, using a separate layer and putting
it on the top centre. I like the font that I used for this title because its got a spy
look to that matches the genre of the main article. I used the same font to type in
the slogan just underneath using the type tool. I then opened the image of black
wallpaper from google images that I was using for the wallpaper. I put whatever
layer this image was last. So that all the images that I had appeared in front of the
black wallpaper. I then opened up a image of the barcode as that what appears
on every type of product and was essential to have. I rotated it so that it was
facing to a side because I wanted it to be inline with the text that I had planed to
have above it. The next thing I did was open up a image of Eggsy who's a
character in the film, who's on the right to me. I did the same with him as I did to
me and Colins character. By using the magic wand tool to remove the
background. Duplicating the layer and the desaturating the image so that It was
black and white. Then when it came to showing the orange colour of the image. I
selected the non-desaturated layer of the image. Then using the quick selection
tool I drew around the whole of the image apart from tie as that was orange and
pressed CTRL+D so that it deleted everything apart from the tie that’s in the
orange colour. This worked because the duplicated layer image was positioned
just underneath the black and white one. I did the same thing with the Eggsy
image by using the quick selection tool and selecting everything in the image that
was black and white.
3. Process – Front page cover• For the borders of the magazine, I opened up
a plain white image and then duplicated the
image three times. I then resized them and
reangled them so that It looked like it was
going around the whole of the magazine. The
next thing I did was open the Kingsman logo
which was a png, placing it in the centre of the
magazine. For the Colin firth image I used the
eyedropper tool, hovering over the colour of
my image, which selected that specific colour.
I then used the brush tool to colour in the tie,
the shirt, the handkerchief and the shirt’s
sleeve. I then used a dark colour and drew the
outlines of the collar with the paintbrush tool.
The next thing I did was open the png image
of the golden circle and moved the slogan,
that I previously typed out. Using the move
tool, to drag it in the middle of the circle. I
then placed it where I wanted it and enlarged
so that it was the size that I wanted. For the
next thing I did, I opened up a image of sonic
the hedgehog. Which was the image that I
was going to have as one of my coverline
images. Once this was open I also desaturated
this image, making it black and white.
4. Process – Front page cover• For the Kingsman logo symbol, I duplicated the
layer three times. Resizing them and moving
them to the left. Using the type tool, I used the
Broadway font to type out the exclusives that
were going to appear in the magazine. I then
used the same Broadway font to type out the
headline and the sub headline underneath it.
Then I opened up the picture of Harley Quinn
which I found online, resized it and put it on the
top left corner for the coverline photo. I then
desaturated the image so that it was black and
white like the other coverline photo. I did this
because I wanted there to be one key primary
colour to my magazine. Then using the Broadway
font type in the coverline’s heading. I then used
a Bernard MT condensed font, as I thought that
it had a sharp look to it. That fits perfectly well
with a magazine specifically a stylish magazine.
With this font I typed out the coverlines that
would go on the bottom and the top that
provided as the banners of my magazine. The
next thing I did was type in the magazine details
that provides the date, the magazines issue
number and the website . As well as the UK and
US currency prices. Putting this in 3pt making it
the smallest thing on the page as I wanted it to
stand out the least. I did this because I wanted
whatever was in the magazine to be the most
important and most selling. The last thing I did
was go onto the file which was on the top left
corner, scrolled to export and exported it as png
into somewhere I could find it in my documents.
.
6. Process – Double page spread• To start off with, I opened up Adobe Photoshop,
setting it on 2400 width and 1200 height. I set it on
300 resolution and a transparent background. The
first thing I did once I had opened up the file was go
onto view that was on the top, went down to create
new guide, changing my vertical orientation and my
horizonal orientation to how many inches I wanted it
for. I then opened the photographs that I had
professionally took and put them on separate layers. I
enlarged these images and positioned them where I
wanted them. When It came to desaturating the
main image into black and white, I went onto image
which was third from top, scrolled down to
adjustments and went into black and white. Here I
simply turned up or down the various colours that
were presented so I could get what I wanted and
pressed ok. The reason I wanted this image in black
and white as well is because I think it works well with
keeping in the style of the front page image. Then the
next thing I did was open up the image of Merlin
(character from Kingsman, who’s on the second
page). I made his image faded out as I think it gave a
very ominous look and I nice reference to the
character in the film. I did this simply by turning
down the opacity of image to 33%. I then opened the
image of the letter of the first letter which is in the
article. I found this “G” off google images as I though
it would look better if it was stylishly presented as a
image and not just something used the type tool
with.
7. Process – Double page spread
• The next thing I did in my progress was put in
the black borders. I did this by simply getting a
plain black wallpaper, opening it up to
photoshop and then duplicating the layer
three times. I then positioned and resized
them to the areas that I wanted. I then
duplicated the layers twice more and put them
both either side of the photo that featured me
at the bottom. I then got speech mark from
google images that I was going to use as the
hint quote. I then duplicated the layer and
rotated it so that it looked like it was upside
down. I then used the type tool to type out
the quote, using a modern no 20. I then used
the same font to type out the page details in
the bottom and then duplicated that text layer
so that I could put it on the opposite side of
the page. The last thing I did with that is
change the number so that It was the number
that was featured in the previous page. I also
typed up the grossing in the black box on the
left using the same font.
8. Process – Double page spread
• When I did the masthead (title) and the
kicker, (small bio under the meathead) I did
this in a Broadway font which was the same
font that I used for the title on the front
cover of this article. I chose this specific
font because I think that it’s a nice
continuation of the front cover. I then typed
up the look out feature on the top of the
quote using the type tool and the same font
as the quote. I then changed the colour to
red so that it stands out from the quote and
the rest of the article. The last thing I had to
do was type up the article using the Arial
font as it made it look a lot more of article
with it being such a simple font. It also
looked like it had this typed out look to it,
which I thought looked very natural with
what I was trying to present. I did the
questions in red and the answers in black so
that differentiates making it a lot more
easier to read. The last thing I did was
export the double page spread. Going into
file, export and then quick export as a PNG.
Saving the export somewhere into my
documents so that I was safe.
