2. Theory of Thrones
• Throughout the series the
characters are mainly shown in
mono/ duo tone clothing. I want to
replicate this within my own
products.

ame-of-thrones-color-theory/
3. Process
• For my production experimentation. I wanted a
Game of Thrones character in a duo-tone effect. I
decided to go with the theme of Game of Thrones
due to the cultural relevancy at the current time. This
topic will be popular as there is a large hype about
the end of the series/ franchise.
• I got an image of one of the major characters within
the show. I chose this because the show has some
points where the production has a dark environment.
I needed to make sure it would capture the detail
that I wanted.
• I decided on the picture shown at the side here as I
wanted a photograph of the character looking out
into the distance creating an longing atmosphere.
• I found this image on google images and saved it as a
PDF so I could pause editing when I needed to.
• I duplicated a background layer to ensure I could
unlock the original image.
4. Process
• I wanted to create a
minimalistic image of the
character to ease the design
process for my merchandise.
This also creates a hollow and
lonely atmosphere.
• I looked at the settings bar and
selected Filter- Filter Gallery
then I scrolled through to the
sketch tab.
• I applied the note paper sketch
filter, but the colours weren’t
what I wanted, (dark grey for
background and a lighter grey
everywhere else), so I scrapped
it.
• The duo tone were too flat and
created too much of a
contrasting colour.
5. Process
• I followed this guide https://creativepro.com/turn-color-photos-duotones-
photoshop/ on how to turn coloured photos into duotones.
• I found that the web link was quite helpful.
• I went to Image-Adjustments-Threshold, that made it duotone but this was not
in the correct colours.
• Also it may be more susceptible to stains because of the white highlights.
• The white is a little too harsh on the eyes.
6. Process
• Next I went to Image-
Adjustments-
Hue/Saturation,
inverted it so the face
is grey instead of
being white.
• I did this to make both
colours grey instead of
one being white and
one being grey.
7. Process
• Then I went to Select-Colour
Range, so that selected all
the grey areas and copied it.
• When I first looked at this I
really hated how it appeared
but I reassured myself as it
would look good once I went
onto the next step.
8. Process
• I created another layer and I pasted
the face onto it and I made the
background a darker shade of grey.
• To complete the final image I saved the
image as a JPEG document which
flattened the layers and combined it
into one.
9. Process
• For this experiment I wanted to figure
out how to make an image look
natural onto a curved surface, in this
case a mug.
• I found this image on google images
and saved it as a PDF so I could pause
editing if I needed to.
10. Process
• I got an image from the internet and placed it
onto the mug. I made sure it was rectangular
because the merchandise will be rectangular.
• I used the hotkey CTRL+T to transform it into the
correct size and I used the move tool (hotkey V)
to move it into the centre of the mug.
• I also turned the opacity down to 80%, to make
the picture have a semi reflective surface.
11. Process
• I used the CTRL+T shortcut to
transform and pressed the warp
button at the options bar, I did this to
the top and the bottom of the image
to match the curvature of the mug
then saved it as a JPEG.
12. Size of the imagery
Looking at the
different ways I
could display the
image onto
different items of
clothing. I have
decided that the
image above
creates the most
impact for the
merchandise that I
wanted to create.
I found that the
image was too small
and would have a
small impact.
The image is too
far up the
neckline for this
to be an
acceptable
design.
13. Colour Variations
Duotone is used to create brightly-coloured campaigns composed of clashing and contrasting
colour combinations. Many graphic and web designers use this technique to make bold, sweeping
statements which cater to millennials.
I chose this
because it is a
similar grey to the
background of the
image, so it would
blend in better.
14. • I feel that I will need some sort of quote
to make the imagery a little more
interesting and engaging with the
audience.
• I will ensure that the image is above the
pocket so if there’s anything inside it will
not warp the image.
• I will not include any design on the back
because I find that you should be able to
see the and catch their reaction and it’s
not cost effective when producing.

15. Reflection
What elements of your experiments
will you include in your final product?
– I will include all of the
methods listed above for my
merchandise. I chose the 2
methods because I was unsure
how to make them, now that I
know how my merchandise
will look better and more
professional.
– I will use the Duotone
Photoshop method to process
the images chosen to put on
the merchandise.
– I have decided to use the
hoodie with a pocket on the
front in a grey colour.
