3. Proof of Concept Experiment: Double Page Spread
For my proof of concept experiment I decided to create an example of a double page in my fanzine to give an idea of the style of the
fanzine and to plan the layout. This is an example concept of an interview page.
For the left side, I decided to use a combination of images and combine them to create this homemade college effect. I got all the
images and the interview example from 'whowhatwear.com' whenWillow did an interview with them in May. In Photoshop I placed
all the images from this photoshoot and using the pen tool, starting cutting them out in no specific technique so some would have
sharp edges. Then, I rearranged these images in the layers section and decided what images I would like to overlap. Next, I added
some torn paper effects I had saved previously and had them fit to different areas of the images using the puppet warp tool to give it
the homemade look as if the images had been ripped out of a magazine or book and stuck onto the page. I also used the burn tool
in different areas around the images to add a slight darkness underneath and around areas of the overlapped images to add depth
and shadow. To enhance this DIY collage effect more, I found some paper textures on Pinterest and added a variation of these to
the images using a clipping mask and the screen layer style so it would appear over the top of the image without covering it. For the
right side, I first found an image ofWillow from another photoshoot on Google Images that best matched the colour scheme of the
images on the left page. Using the pen tool, I cut this out and pasted it onto the page. For the line effect on the text for the title and
quote, I added an outer glow effect and then removed the fill opacity. Finally, I pasted the interview article in a textbox and fitted it
to the image of Willow as best as I could.
