LSC WOMEN’S BASKETBALL
Angelo State and Eastern New Mexico are unbeaten in Lone Star Conference action to lead the standings. ASU
is also one of six NCAA Division II teams undefeated on the year at 10-0 overall.
LSC play is in full swing this week with one league contest Tuesday and five on both Thursday and Saturday.
The LSC women are 69-49 overall. The women’s squads are currently 14-9 combined against the Heartland,
and 9-9 versus RMAC teams, which are the other conferences in the NCAA South Central Region.

Jasmine Prophet, Angelo State University, SR, Forward, Jackson, Mississippi, Hightower HS
Prophet helped the No. 4/5 Belle basketball team to its 10th straight win with her first double-double
of the season against Cameron. The senior scored 17 points and grabbed a season high 12 rebounds. The
Jackson, Mississippi native grabbed eight defensive rebounds and four offensive rebounds while also shooting
45.5-percent from the field to help ASU overcome an early 13-point deficit. She also sank 7-of-8 free throws.
DEFENSIVE
Lexi Murphy, Angelo State University, SR, Forward, Papillion, Nebraska, Papillion-Lavista HS
Murphy grabbed a career-high 10 rebounds including six on the defensive end to help the No. 4/5 Belles win
on the road against Cameron. The senior was one of two ASU players with double-digit rebounds. Murphy’s
rebounds and defense limited Cameron to just a .372 clip from the field. She also recorded two assists and a
steal while also chipping in six points in the victory.
OTHER TOP PERFORMERS
Kristin Rydell, Midwestern State University, tied a Midwestern State record with seven three-pointers en
route to a career-best 26 points in a win over Texas Wesleyan on New Year’s Eve. The Hutto native became
just the fourth Mustang in program history to connect on seven triples and the first in eight years, helping
Midwestern State tie a school record with 14 three-pointers against TWU. Rydell knocked down a trio of three-
pointers while converting a three-point play to total 12 points in the fourth quarter to help MSU distance itself
from the Lady Rams. Rydell recorded the first 20-point game of her career, going 9-of-16 from the floor and
7-of-11 from long range. She also added three rebounds, three steals and a pair of assists to her stat line.
Lexy Hightower, West Texas A&M University, had a career-high game against University of the Southwest on
Friday going a career-best 8 of 13 from the field, including 4 of 7 from beyond the arc, along with a team-high
four assists, three steals and no turnovers. She played a career-best 33 minutes in the 97-33 win. Hightower
earned her first collegiate start in the game as well. It was her eighth game of scoring in double figures and
second game this season leading the team in scoring.
Mikaehla Connor, Eastern New Mexico University, continued her strong play for the Eastern New Mexico
University women’s basketball team as they closed the calendar year with an 82-46 win over Sul Ross State. The
junior guard registered the first double-double of her career with 14 points and 10 rebounds, while she added
six assists to challenge for the program’s first triple double. Connor shot .500 from the floor in the game and
had six rebounds over the game’s first 10- minutes.
Lilley Vander Zee, West Texas A&M University, started her first game since the opening weekend of the
season going 5 of 9 from the field and 3 of 5 from the line, while pulling down nine rebounds against University
of the Southwest Friday. The nine rebounds tied her season-high set in the season-opener against University of
Mary. Vander Zee had two assists, and led the team with one block in the contest as she helped lead the Lady
Buffs to hold USW to 33 points and 30 percent shooting from the field. Vander Zee’s five made field goals is a
season-high for her and her 13 points tied her season-high.
Johna McClelland, Eastern New Mexico University, registered a strong defensive effort in the Greyhounds’
82-46 win over Sul Ross State. The junior forward rejected a career-best five shots to help limit the Lobos to
a .246 shooting percentage. She also had six defensive rebounds to hold SRSU to 10 second-chance points.
Eastern was a season-best +16 on the boards in the game and held a 37-17 edge in combined second-chance
points and points off turnovers.

Midwestern State was victorious in its lone contest over the holiday break with an 81-59 win over Texas
Wesleyan to move to 3-7 on the season. The Mustangs converted on 14 three-pointers to match an 18-year-old
school record while recording the most ever made inside D.L. Ligon Coliseum. Junior guard Kristin Rydell went
7-of-11 from behind the arc with a career-best 26 points while junior guard Whitney Taylor finished 5-of-9 from
three-point range with 15 points. Freshman point guard Leanna James drained the remaining two triples on the
afternoon while dishing out a career-best 11 assists to tie for the fifth most in school history. Midwestern State
shot a season-best 50 percent (29-of-58) from the field and 51.9 percent (14-of-27) from three-point range,
assisting on 27 of 29 made baskets. The Mustangs continue their homestand this week at Ligon Coliseum with
Lone Star Conference matchups against West Texas A&M and UT Permian Basin. MSU first faces off against the
Lady Buffs on Thursday at 5:30 p.m. before taking on the Falcons in a 2 p.m. tipoff Saturday.
