LSC BASEBALL
Angelo State and West Texas A&M are tied atop the Lone Star Conference standings at 6-2 in league play. The
Buffs host the Rams for a four-game series this week.
LSC teams are playing a 10-week schedule with a four-game series and three-game series against every other
team. Each four-game series shall consist of a 9-inning game Friday, a 7x7 doubleheader Saturday and 9-inning
contest Sunday, and each three-game series shall consist of a 9-inning game Friday and a 7x9 doubleheader
Saturday.
The overall LSC Champion will be the team(s) with the best winning percentage in regular-season conference
games, while the winner of the postseason championship will be recognized as LSC Tournament Champion
and receive the league’s automatic qualification into NCAA postseason. The championship will be played May
12-13-14, at the No. 1 seed.
LSC baseball teams are 73-49 overall this season. In the NCAA South Central Region, the teams are currently
17-6 combined versus Heartland Conference teams and 8-4 against the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference.
PLAYERS OF THE WEEK
HITTER
Steven Pinales, Angelo State University, JR, OF, Bronx, New York, Herbert H. Lehman
Pinales played a major role in the Rams offensive attack during this week’s series win over Texas A&M-Kingsville.
The junior led the team with a .533 average at the plate, knocking a double and a pair of home runs in the
process. This has tied him for the team lead with three total homers on the season. Pinales also recorded a
team high five RBIs, scored five runs and a stolen base for the week.
PITCHER
Paxton DeLaGarza, Angelo State University, SR, INF/P, Lubbock, Texas, Lubbock Coronado
DeLaGarza showed his versatility on the field this week as the All-American shortstop took to the mound and
earned his first win of the season against Texas A&M-Kingsville. The senior leader tossed a complete game
shutout against the Javelinas giving up only three hits in the process. He completed the game with seven
strikeouts and walked only two holding TAMUK to a .130 team batting average for the game.
OTHER TOP PERFORMERS
Alec Humphreys, Tarleton State University, took over the No. 2 spot in the Tarleton lineup this weekend and
was on fire at the dish with a .471 batting average to lead Tarleton to three wins over Eastern New Mexico.
Humphreys, a senior from Midlothian, was 8-for-17 at the plate in four games with two doubles and a triple and
a team-leading seven RBIs for the series. Humphreys also scored two runs, slugged .706, and stole a base.
Trace Hansen, West Texas A&M University, continued to be a key force for the 17-5 Buffs this season as
WT went 3-1 at Cameron this weekend. Hansen, who is one of two Buffs to start all 22 games this season, hit
.400 on 6 of 15 from the plate, scoring three runs and driving in three with two doubles. He slugged .533 and
reached base at a .444 clip, walking twice and not striking out once in the series as the only Buff to not strikeout
for the weekend. Hansen had eight putouts and 12 assists in 22 chances. He leads the LSC in doubles with 11
and has a team-high 15 extra-base hits on the year in his 33 hits. He has a team-high 11 multi-hit games with
two in the series this weekend.
Scott Klein, Eastern New Mexico University, helped Eastern New Mexico earn their first Lone Star Conference
win of the season Monday,throwing three shutout innings in relief while allowing only three batters to reach
base. Klein finished the contest with a 0.00 ERA and earned his first win of the season. Klein moved to 1-1 on
the season and now has an ERA of 3.68 in 7.1 innings of work from the mound.”
Jacob French, Tarleton State University, returned to vintage form one day short of two full calendar years
since his last pitching victory in a Tarleton Texan uniform, as the senior from Kingwood tied a career high with
eight innings of work to deliver a 10-3 win for Tarleton against Eastern New Mexico in game two of the series in
Stephenville. French, who missed all of last season with an injury, went eight innings allowing no earned runs
on just five hits. He struck out seven and didn’t walk a batter while holding the Greyhound offense to a mere
.172 average through eight innings. The win came one day short of the complete two-year circle of his last win
in a Tarleton uniform, which was March 14, 2014 against Cameron.
Joshua Payne, West Texas A&M University, had his first complete game shutout for the Buffs in a 10-0, run-
rule game to give WT a 3-1 series win at Cameron on Monday. Payne scattered seven hits over seven innings
and stranded eight Aggies on the base paths in the win as WT pulled into a tie for first in the league standings
at 6-2. Payne improved to 2-1 on the year with the win. He got out of five situations with runners in scoring
position to preserve the shutout.

After a month on the road, the Rams opened its newly renovated Foster Field at 1st Community Credit Union
splitting a four game series with Texas A&M-Kingsville. Newcomer Steven Pinales led the team at the plate with
a .533 average at the plate, knocking a double and a pair of home runs. He also recorded a team high five RBIs

Eastern New Mexico
The Eastern New Mexico University baseball team (8-14, 1-7 LSC) found their first win of the season in the
final contest of a four-game series with Tarleton State over the weekend. Having dropped the first three games
of the series, the Greyhounds won the final came 4-2 in true comeback fashion, scoring two runs in the final
inning to get the win. Starter James Thomas threw six innings, allowing only two runs off five hits while Scott
Klein threw three hitless innings to close out the game and ultimately earn the win.
Tarleton State
Tarleton won its first Lone Star Conference series of the season by taking three of four from Eastern New
Mexico in Stephenville.
Texas A&M-Kingsville
Texas A&M-Kingsville split its first series versus #RV Angelo State as the Javelinas improved to 5-3 in LSC play...
Hayden Vesely posted two saves and added two runs and a stolen base... The Hogs host Our Lady of the Lake
Tuesday before heading to Portales to battle Eastern New Mexico for four games.
West Texas A&M
The No. 12-ranked West Texas A&M baseball team took a 3-1 series win at Cameron this week to improve to a
Lone Star Conference-best 17-5 overall record and 6-2 in Lone Star Conference play...The 6-2 mark is tied with
Angelo State for the best record in league play as the two teams will meet for a four-game series this coming
weekend in Canyon...WT hit .274 for the series, but got timely hits and pitching to clinch the series...Senior
Trace Hansen hit .400 with six hits, two doubles, three runs scored and three RBI, while John Baiada also had six
hits as did Jake Fuller...WT tallied 34 hits for the series, scored 24 runs and tallied a season-best 12 doubles for
a four game series...Hansen leads the LSC in doubles with 11...The Buffs battled back from a 2-0 deficit, scoring
six runs over the final three innings for a 6-3 win in the opener...The Aggies responded in kind as WT led 3-0 in
the nightcap of the first doubleheader 3-0 in the sixth, but six runs over the final four innings gave Cameron a
6-3 win to even the series...WT came back with three runs - two in the seventh and one in the eight for a 5-4,
extra-inning win Monday in the opener of the second doubleheader...Joshua Payne was terrific in the nightcap,
going all seven innings in a run-rule game for a 10-0 shutout...It was his first complete game shutout in a Buff
uniform as he scattered seven hits, walked one and fanned four for the series-clincher...Payne got out of five
situations with runners in scoring position for the win as CU stranded eight in the game...The Buffs are 5-2 on
the road this season and return home to host ASU Friday as WT is 12-2 in the friendly confines this season.
